Britt Baker vs. Billie Starkz part of eight-match AEW Dark lineup

Former AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker will officially make her return to Dark as she takes on Billie Starkz on Tuesday’s show.

This will be Baker’s first singles match since a December win over Skye Blue on Rampage and just her second since losing to Saraya at November’s Full Gear. Starkz lost in her AEW debut, also on Dark.

Mascara Dorada returns for his second AEW match against the always dangerous Anthony Henry of The WorkHorsemen.

Ahead of his tag team match with Ricky Starks against Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara, Action Andretti will return to action against Bronson from the Iron Savages.

Brittany J will return for her fifth AEW outing against the debuting Harley Cameron in a rare Dark match between two unsigned talents.

Here’s the full lineup, taped last December at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

  • Matt Sydal vs. Cezar Bononi
  • Madison Rayne vs. Kaci Lennox
  • Tony Deppen vs. Serpentico
  • Dark Order vs. Baliyan Akki, Marcus Kross & Vary Morales

Britt Baker ‘so damn proud’ of how hard Adam Cole worked to get back to AEW

Britt Baker says she’s “so damn proud” of how hard Adam Cole worked to come back from injury.

Cole returned to AEW in an unadvertised segment on Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite. He hasn’t wrestled since AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 26, 2022 where he is believed to have suffered a concussion during the IWGP Heavyweight Championship four-way match.

Baker took to Twitter on Thursday to comment on her partner’s return. She wrote:

For months the only time @AdamColePro left the house was to go to bran/physical therapy appointments. There was a time he wasn’t allowed to fly on planes or do anything more than go for a walk. I’m so damn proud of how hard he worked every single day to get back to you all.

Cole responded by writing:

Thanks for being in my corner every step of the way. Couldn’t have done it without you

During his promo on Wednesday, Cole spoke about some of the challenges he’s faced over the past few months.

Cole said:

The past few months, I was really, really banged up everybody. I had a shoulder that was torn to shreds. More importantly, I had two back-to-back very serious head injuries.

I’m going to be honest, I was really, really scared. I was seeing doctors multiple times a week, I was getting MRIs done to my brain. I had headaches, I had dizzy spells multiple times a day. If I was in a car for more than 15 minutes I felt like, and sometimes did, vomit.

But the worst part was the sleep because I would lay there, emotions all over the place, anxiety high, and I couldn’t figure out why. I’d have to get up at three, four in the morning and pace back and forth, my heart racing out of my chest. Britt would wake up and go, ‘oh my god, are you okay? What’s wrong?’ And I would look at her with a tear in my eye and say, ‘I don’t know what’s happening to me.’

Cole would continue to thank fans for writing him supportive messages during his time away. He then said that he was cleared to return and that is bad news for everyone on the AEW roster.

Saraya & mystery partner vs. Baker & Hayter announced for January 11 AEW Dynamite

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter vs. Saraya and a mystery partner is set for the January 11 AEW Dynamite.

The match was set up in a backstage promo segment on this week’s Dynamite. Tony Schiavone was interviewing Saraya when Baker interrupted and offered Saraya tickets to the January 11 event at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Baker said that Saraya was welcome to watch her perform from the crowd, or could find a partner and face Baker and Hayter in a tag match.

Saraya accepted the match challenge, then continued the angle on social media:

Saraya defeated Baker at Full Gear last month in singles competition in her first match in five years.

AEW will return to the Los Angeles area for the first time since June when they ran the Forum for Dynamite, then Ontario, California for Rampage on June 1 and June 3. Both Dynamite and Rampage will be taped on January 11.

Saraya returns to in-ring action at AEW Full Gear, defeats Britt Baker

Saraya made a triumphant return to in-ring action at Saturday’s AEW Full Gear pay-per-view, earning a victory in her first match in nearly five years.

Saraya defeated Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. at Full Gear after hitting two cradle DDTs in her first bout since a neck injury forced a pause to her career at a WWE house show in December 2017.

Saraya signed with AEW and made her first appearance for the company at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 21 of this year. She engaged in physicality in an angle with Baker on the October 5 Dynamite, then revealed that she had been fully medically cleared to return to the ring on the November 9 Dynamite, announcing the Full Gear match with Baker.

As Paige in WWE, Saraya was the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion, as well as a two-time WWE Divas Champion. After the neck injury paused her in-ring career, she served as an on-air authority figure on the SmackDown brand. Later, she worked as a panelist on FS1’s WWE Backstage alongside Renee Paquette.

Britt Baker says AEW Full Gear match is ‘so progressive for our division’

Ahead of Full Gear, Britt Baker spoke to Sports Illustrated about being Saraya’s first opponent in nearly five years.

Saraya (formerly known as Paige in WWE) will make her return to the ring as she faces Baker at Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view. It will be the first time Saraya has wrestled since 2017, when she suffered a neck injury that forced her to retire.

Baker told Sports Illustrated that the match is a point of progress for the AEW women’s division.

“It’s so progressive for our division,” Baker said. “It’s a story-driven match. It’s a very compelling story, and the match is going to be even more exciting.”

Baker noted that, while Saraya has been away from in-ring competition for five years, the one thing they have in common is that professional wrestling is their life.

“She’s been out of the game for five years,” Baker said. “That’s a long time. For all our differences, we have one thing in common—wrestling is our life. We’re going to wrestle like our lives depend on it.”

With Saraya being medically cleared to return to the ring, Baker told Sports Illustrated she isn’t worried about Saraya having limitations.

“She’s cleared. By this point, her neck is probably better than mine,” Baker said. “At first, I was really concerned. Working around someone’s neck is very daunting. But she’s cleared, and we’re going to wrestle.”

Baker said facing a star like Saraya is a challenge that she welcomes.

“I don’t take this opportunity lightly. It is a challenge I welcome. Saraya is a star. She’s one of the best wrestlers in the world. Not everyone knows Britt Baker. Having a match with a star of her caliber is the next step I need in my career,” Baker said. “I feel similar to the way I did before the ‘Lights Out’ match against Thunder Rosa. I knew the match had to be excellent. I’m in that position again, and I’m ready to deliver.”

Full Gear is taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night. The PPV main card will begin at 8 p.m. Eastern time. The Buy-In pre-show starts at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Saraya vs. Britt Baker announced for AEW Full Gear

Saraya is cleared, and is facing Britt Baker at Full Gear.

In addition, a TBS title match between Jade Cargill and Nyla Rose has been made, and Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal will team up to take on Darby Allin and Sting.

On Wednesday’s Dynamite, Saraya came out and confirmed that she has been 100% cleared, saying that AEW was her house. Baker and Saraya ended up getting into a war of words, with Baker saying that she didn’t recall Saraya laying one single brick in AEW. Saraya countered back, mentioning how she fought tough battles publicly and has been wrestling for far longer than Baker, who she accused of getting every opportunity handed to her by Tony Khan. Saraya ended the segment by announcing the match for Full Gear.

Over the last several weeks, Nyla Rose has taken hostage of the TBS title, with Jade Cargill and her baddies failing to get the championship back from Rose. In a backstage promo on Wednesday’s show, Cargill promised to handle Rose on this coming Friday’s Rampage.

Jarrett made his debut on last week’s Dynamite, attacking Darby Allin. Jarrett told Allin at the time that he knew Allin’s biggest weakness, and it was Sting.
