Paige wants to make up for lost time in WWE: ‘Don’t think I’m going to be wrestling after this run’

Paige aims to make up for lost time in her current WWE run, and hopes to compete in Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber matches, and milestones in the women’s division she missed due to early retirement.

Speaking with Stephanie McMahon on the What’s Your Story? Podcast Paige expressed that she returned with the mindset to participate in stipulation and marquee matches that did not exist for the women’s division in her WWE tenure earlier. She acknowledged that this current comeback could potentially be her final run in wrestling.

“I came in this time with a mindset where I just want to be happy and have fun, because I don’t think I’m going to be wrestling after this run. I want to just enjoy my time that I have here, embrace absolutely everything, just enjoy the journey.”

“That’s all I care about. But I do want to finally be able to be in the Royal Rumble that I got to not be a part of and do the Elimination Chambers and do, you know, all these stipulation matches that were not around.”

“I had to be backstage in Gorilla when the Royal Rumble just started, and no one knew I was retired by that point, you know? And so I just sat there and I was just really sad. It was bittersweet. I was happy that the girls finally got this big match that we didn’t have before. But I was sad because I wasn’t a part of it, and I didn’t know if I was ever going to be a part of it again. And so to have this moment where I’m back in WWE, my neck is good, I’m wrestling again, and there’s opportunities for me to be a part of these stipulation matches. I mean, man, I’m really excited. I’m really excited for the next couple of years.”

Paige returned at WrestleMania 42 nearly four years after her WWE exit. She replaced Nikki Bella to compete in the Women’s Tag Team Championship match which she and Brie Bella won.

Paige was a part of the WWE women’s revolution in 2015. Two years later, she suffered a neck injury that forced her to retire from in-ring competition. At AEW Full Gear 2022, she faced Britt Baker for the first time in five years after being medically cleared.

Paige returns, wins gold at WWE WrestleMania 42

WWE is Paige’s house once again.

At WrestleMania 42 night one, Paige returned to WWE and worked her first match for the company in nearly a decade, teaming with Brie Bella to win the Women’s Tag Team titles. It was scheduled to be Nikki & Brie Bella teaming together in the match, but Nikki was unable to be cleared in time after suffering an ankle injury on SmackDown three weeks ago.

Nikki walked out with a crutch as The Bella Twins made their entrance tonight. Announcing that she would not be able to compete, Nikki said an “old friend” would be taking her place — bringing out Paige for her return.

That crutch ended up playing a big role in the fatal four-way match. Interfering during the finish, Nikki used the crutch as a weapon and struck Charlotte Flair with it. Paige then got her knees up when Alexa Bliss went for Twisted Bliss. She followed up with RamPaige on Bliss for the victory.

Nia Jax & Lash Legend were Women’s Tag Team Champions heading into tonight. The four-way bout featured Jax & Legend, Brie Bella & Paige, Charlotte & Bliss, and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria.

On commentary, Michael Cole brought up that Paige won the Divas Championship on her first night on the main roster back in 2014 and had now won gold again her first night back.

Paige was once medically disqualified from WWE due to neck issues, last wrestling for the company in December 2017. She remained with WWE in a non-wrestling role until departing the promotion in 2022. She then joined AEW, returning to the ring there and holding the AEW Women’s World Championship one time.

In March 2025, Paige (Saraya) and AEW mutually parted ways. She took the past year off from pro wrestling but had been training for her return recently.

Report: Paige expected to return to WWE at WrestleMania 42

Paige is reportedly expected to return to WWE this weekend.

PWInsider reported Friday that she has signed with the company. The belief is she will be part of the women’s tag team title four-way on Saturday’s show as Nikki Bella’s replacement.

Bella has been dealing with an ankle injury, and PWInsider reported earlier Friday that she will not be cleared in time for WrestleMania.

The report added that Paige, who wrestled as Saraya in AEW, was spotted taking part in a run-through for the match this week.

Paige has not wrestled for WWE since suffering an injury during the company’s holiday live event tour in late 2017. She was not medically cleared to wrestle again until 2022, when she signed with AEW and wrestled as Saraya, returning to the ring against Britt Baker at Full Gear that year.

She announced in March 2025 that she had left AEW. Her final AEW match took place on the October 8, 2024 episode of Dynamite, where she competed in a four-way against Jamie Hayter, Nyla Rose, and Willow Nightingale.

AJ Lee calls for WWE to bring back two former stars

AJ Lee has voiced support for the return of two former WWE stars while reflecting on the most prominent feuds in her career.

Speaking with The Takedown on SI, Lee cited she would love to bring back Paige (aka Saraya) and Kaitlyn to WWE.

“I love Paige… if I could bring somebody back, her and Kaitlyn. Let’s get them back.”

She expressed admiration for Paige’s wrestling contributions and said it would be heartwarming to see her return amid the current landscape of the women’s division.

“It would be great,” Lee said. “She’s so talented and I knew it from day one. We’d always joke that I was her fairy godmother and I just took her under my wing and tried to protect her. And just to see her now, it would be kind of heartwarming and healing, and she would be a great addition to this locker room. I think this place has really come a long way and the women work together so beautifully, and they’re so supportive. I would love for her to experience just how fun it is now.”

Lee also addressed the possibility of revisiting past rivalries with The Bella Twins after nearly a decade. She additionally named Naomi as a dream opponent while praising her in-ring ability.

“I think the fans would really love to see me and the Bellas again, or me and Naomi. We never really got to like kill it, but she is just one of those people who every time I was in the ring with her, I felt so at my absolute best. She brings that out of you.”

“There’s such [an abundance of] wonderful, exciting new talent that I think can show me so much,” Lee said. “The way [her generation] maybe started an evolution, they continue it and then now we can learn from them. And it’s this really cool circle of moving the business forward. So I’d love to get in there with Lyra and Roxanne and Liv and Stephanie and Rhea. Gosh, there’s so many people that I would just [be] a blast to work with.”

Paige made her WWE Raw debut in 2014 and defeated Lee in an impromptu match for the now retired Divas Championship. After her neck injury in 2017, she transitioned to the role of SmackDown General Manager for a few years before taking on backstage duties. She announced her release in June 2022 and in September that year she made her AEW debut under her real name, Saraya.

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn and AJ Lee feuded for most of 2013 before her exit in 2014. They were initial allies turned foes with the Divas Championship being a key factor. Her last match was at a GWA event in December 2019.

Lee returned to WWE in September 2025. She teamed with her husband, CM Punk to take on Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. That escalated into a singles feud with Lynch for the Intercontinental Title.

Lee captured the championship at Elimination Chamber and will defend it in a rematch against Lynch at WrestleMania 42.

Saraya having ‘such a great time’ resuming wrestling training

Saraya is having a lot of fun as she returns to wrestling training.

After taking the entirety of 2025 off to pursue other interests, Saraya resumed wrestling training last month. She has not announced any plans for an official in-ring return, but she wants to be prepared if that does happen. Whenever she wrestles next, Saraya is hoping to be the best version of herself that she’s ever been, similar to when she was Paige in WWE NXT.

“I’m just trying to get my lick back, you know what I mean? I miss wrestling,” she told MuscleManMalcolm. “I lost my passion for it for a second. I told people months ago I was getting back in the ring in January, and I did just that. I’m having such a great time. I said if I was to ever come back to wrestling, I’ll be better than I was before — NXT Paige.”

MuscleManMalcolm’s interview with Saraya was conducted last weekend at the WrestleVerse Fest convention in Houston, Texas. She remained tight-lipped about her specific plans in and outside of wrestling but teased that 2026 will be a busy year for her.

“2026 is looking really great,” Saraya said. “I have a busy schedule ahead of me, and that’s about it. That’s about it. Yeah, that’s all I’m giving you.”

Saraya and AEW mutually parted ways in March 2025, ending a nearly three-year run that included one reign as AEW Women’s World Champion in 2023. Her returning to training last month sparked fan speculation that we could see her make a WWE return in the 2026 Royal Rumble, but that did not come to fruition.

December 2025 marked eight years since the neck injury that forced Saraya to retire for five years until being cleared to return. She reflected on the anniversary and stated that her neck is now feeling stronger than ever.

Saraya achieves new milestone, shares latest training footage

Long absent from in-ring action and rumored to return, Saraya recently achieved a new milestone, which she decided to share on social media.

Last seen wrestling in October 2024 on Dynamite, the former AEW Women’s Champion has stayed away from the public eye amid growing speculations on her return. Often posting her training videos on social media, Saraya recently did something similar and showed off her new milestone.

“First neck nip up in a decade! We building her back up babayyy!”

Saraya had to stop wrestling after suffering a severe neck injury in 2017. Although she made a comeback from it in AEW, she wrestled sporadically and not regularly. After years of absence, she had made her return against Britt Baker at Full Gear 2022.

AEW’s Harley Cameron once commented on former partner Saraya’s future

A few weeks ago, while speaking to TMZ, AEW Women’s Tag Team Champion Harley Cameron had opened up about her former partner, Saraya’s in-ring future.

“She’s been pretty close-lipped about what’s coming next, but I think she obviously took some time away, and I know she’s been doing some great things outside of the wrestling world and staying really busy.”

Saraya posts new training footage amid return speculation

Saraya has added fuel to the fire regarding ongoing speculation about her return to pro wrestling by sharing brand-new training footage.

Absent from the ring since an early-October 2024 match on Dynamite, the British wrestler has maintained a low profile since that last match. However, she has also managed to keep the hype around her comeback going by posting training footage on social media.

With the WWE Royal Rumble set for this Saturday, she sparked more speculation about her return by uploading a series of her latest sparring and training sessions on her multiple social media accounts.

The former Paige was seen running the ropes, grappling with her opponents, and practicing her strikes. While not confirmed yet, the post also received several comments from fans asking her to come back.

AEW wrestler Harley Cameron addresses Saraya’s future

Recently speaking to TMZ, AEW wrestler Harley Cameron shared an update on Saraya’s future.

“She’s been pretty close-lipped about what’s coming next, but I think she obviously took some time away, and I know she’s been doing some great things outside of the wrestling world and staying really busy.”

“I think she’s definitely at a point in her life where whatever she does next, she’s going all in. So I’m really excited to see what that is.”

Saraya reflects on eight-year anniversary of near career-ending injury

Saraya has commented on the eight-year anniversary of an injury that was once thought to be career-ending.

In December 2017, Saraya had just returned to WWE after missing nearly a year and a half with a neck injury suffered in June 2016. Later that month, on December 27, 2017, while wrestling on a WWE house show in Uniondale, New York, Saraya re-injured her neck when taking a kick to the back from Mercedes Mone, then wrestling as Sasha Banks. It would be nearly five years before doctors would clear her to return.

Saraya took to social media on Sunday to reflect on the injury:

“8 years yesterday from when I thought my career was over during a Uniondale house show. What a ride it’s been since. Grateful for my health, family, friends and fans. You truly keep me going! My noodle neck is as strong as ever haha

Can’t wait for what 2026 has in store ❤️⚡️”

Saraya has taken a sabbatical from wrestling over the past year, having not wrestled since October 2024 and having parted ways with AEW in March. She recently appeared at a show for Insane Wrestling Revolution over the weekend, and also told the Toronto Sun last month that she plans to resume training in January:

“I’m going to get into training in January, and we’ll see where that takes me. Because I feel like I do — if I was to ever come back, not saying I am, but if I was to ever come back, I want to be at the top of my game and be wrestling better than I was wrestling back when I was in NXT. So that’s my goal.”

Saraya makes rare indie appearance: ‘I forgot how fun indies are!’

Saraya made a rare appearance on an indie show this weekend.

The former AEW Women’s World Champion has been on a sabbatical from wrestling since announcing a mutual parting of the ways with AEW in March. However, Rhino’s Insane Wrestling Revolution booked her to make an appearance at Season’s Beatings Fest in Monroe, Michigan on Saturday, December 27.

Saraya had been announced for the event back in October. She entered to her old WWE theme song “Stars in the Night” and cut a promo that led to a tag team match being booked on the show.

Saraya posted to social media after the show:

“I forgot how fun indies are! Minus my dad’s shows it’s been 14 years since my last one. Was supposed to be a one off but man what a blast, might have to do more 🤔..  Thanks to IWR for having me. We packed the place out and and they were loud af. So fun!!

Till next time ⚡️🖤”

Saraya hasn’t wrestled a match since October 2024, but told the Toronto Sun last month that a return to the ring could happen in 2026, saying:

“I’m going to get into training in January, and we’ll see where that takes me. Because I feel like I do — if I was to ever come back, not saying I am, but if I was to ever come back, I want to be at the top of my game and be wrestling better than I was wrestling back when I was in NXT. So that’s my goal.”

Clips of Saraya’s appearance at Insane Wrestling Revolution’s Season’s Beatings Fest are below:

Saraya shares details of inappropriate fan encounter at recent signing

Saraya shared details of an inappropriate fan encounter from a recent signing on the latest episode of her podcast.

On an episode of Rulebreakers published on Thursday, December 4, Saraya noted that at a recent signing in Chicago, a fan inappropriately touched her. Saraya and her guests were discussing Ariana Grande being recently accosted by a fan at the Wicked: For Good premiere when she said:

“Lately, I feel there’s been an influx of certain fans feeling way too comfortable to be grabbing on females. Just this past weekend in Chicago, a fan decided he wanted to slap my ass three times in a row because he thought it was funny, and security didn’t do a f—king thing.”

She said security later approached her and asked whether she wanted the person escorted out of the building.

She continued:

“They did give me a security guard in the end and he was great, which is fine, but the fans are getting way too comfortable. This is the second time this year a fan has touched me, tried to kiss me, and slap my ass.”

She later added:

“Nine times out of 10, all the fans are great, but you always get at least one per signing that gets a little too comfortable, a little too handsy, or thinks they have this parasocial relationship with you. But I feel like it’s happening to everyone.”

Several wrestlers have also complained about recent fan encounters in recent weeks, including Jey Uso, who recently asked fans not to touch or poke him in public.

Saraya parted ways with AEW in March and has not wrestled in 2025. She noted recently on her podcast that she’s spent the past year exploring projects outside wrestling, but has started to miss it, though she didn’t confirm any plans to return.

Saraya’s comments begin around the 43-minute and 42-second mark of the interview (video cued below):

WWE star once gave Saraya ‘the silent treatment’: ‘He was f**king pi**ed’

Saraya was once given a ‘silent treatment’ by WWE star Titus O’Neil following this incident.

Back during her time in WWE, Saraya, then known as Paige, was one of the top rising stars in the promotion. However, she once got into trouble with Titus O’Neil and Vince McMahon for one of her pranks. Recently, appearing on Daria & Toni Unwrapped, Saraya recalled the incident.

“First of all, they couldn’t prank me whatsoever. They could not prank me for the whole season till the very end. But they were like, ‘Let’s give Paige a cattle prod.’”

The incident occurred during a backstage segment for the spinoff of the Jackass film series, which also featured the movie’s creator, Jeff Tremaine. The crew gave the former Paige a cattle prod, which she decided to use on pranking others. However, the former Divas Champion never realized that Titus O’Neil was on the “no prank” list.

“So, I have a cattle prod in my hand. I’m running around, zapping people. I didn’t realize there was a ‘No prank’ list. I run up to Titus [O’Neal] and I’m like, BOOM! And he was so f**king pi**ed.”

However, things did not stop there, as O’Neil proceeded to complain about the incident to Vince McMahon and give the rising star a ‘silent treatment’.

“He goes to Vince’s office and says, ‘Saraya f**king zapped me.’ Vince brings me in, he was laughing about it, actually. You know how he is a prankster. But he was like, ‘Saraya, please stop zapping people with the cattle prod.’ Titus was mad at me for like, a week or so. He gave me the silent treatment. But after a while, we spoke again.”

A part of WWE from 2011 to 2022, she parted ways with the Stamford-based promotion to join AEW. However, earlier this year, she officially left All Elite Wrestling.

Saraya shares potential in-ring update

Recently speaking with the Toronto Sun, Saraya shared a major update on her much-awaited in-ring return.

“I’ve found this new passion for it again. I’m going to get into training in January, and we’ll see where that takes me. Because I feel like I do — if I was to ever come back, not saying I am, but if I was to ever come back, I want to be at the top of my game and be wrestling better than I was wrestling back when I was in NXT. So that’s my goal.”

Saraya calls title win at AEW All In 2023 a ‘wild emotional experience’

Saraya, the former Paige in WWE, opened up about her reaction to learning she was to win the AEW Women’s World Championship in a new interview.

Speaking to Poker Scout, Saraya said that she was told she’d be winning the title the night before she did so at AEW All In 2023 in Wembley Stadium. She says she cried when Tony Khan told her the news.

Saraya said:

“When Tony told me the night before, I cried my eyes out because I never thought that I would ever be back in the ring again, first and foremost. I never thought I’d win a championship again, I never thought that moment was ever gonna come for me ever again.”

“I got told I would never wrestle again in my lifetime and then for some reason my neck miraculously recovered. I don’t know what happened. Maybe I’d like to say my sobriety and healthy living kind of helped, but having my family be a part of it and in my home country in front of my home people, it was just such a wild emotional experience, I was crying my eyes out.”

“As soon as I came back, everybody was there, my buddies, everyone was surrounding me and giving me hugs and stuff, and it was just such a powerful moment and that’s something I’ll never forget and I’m so grateful for Tony for giving me the opportunity.”

After winning the title at All In, Saraya successfully defended it against Toni Storm the following month at AEW Grand Slam 2023 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. She then dropped it to Hikaru Shida on the October 10, 2023, episode of Dynamite.

Saraya was asked to compare working under Tony Khan and working under Vince McMahon. She said that she enjoyed working both places, appreciated the structure in WWE, but also the freedom in AEW.

Saraya continued:

“I’m grateful that I got the opportunity to work in both places. Like whoever leaves WWE, I tell them to go to AEW and enjoy your time there and if someone leaves AEW, I say go to WWE, and you’ll enjoy your time there. I know it feels like a political answer, but I just love that there’s like multiple places you can go, like even Impact now, they did such a good job on their pay-per-view and they sold out an arena and you haven’t seen Impact do that in a very long time, so like they’re really doing something special over there as well.”

Saraya hasn’t wrestled in over 13 months, with her last match having been on the October 8, 2024 episode of Dynamite. She mutually parted ways with AEW in March and has since released a memoire and started her own podcast.

Saraya also recently announced a new fashion project called Sobriety Club. More information is available in her Instagram post below:

Saraya gives update on potential in-ring return

After taking some time away from wrestling, Saraya is starting to get the urge to return to the ring.

Saraya has not had any matches in 2025. She mutually parted ways with AEW this March and has been focusing on other projects, including releasing a memoir and starting her own podcast. But a return to wrestling could be in the cards for 2026, with Saraya telling the Toronto Sun that she plans to start training again in January.

“I’ve had a wonderful year to kind of, you know, dip my toe into the outside of wrestling world. And it’s been so wonderful, and I have loved it, and I have enjoyed it. But, you know, once you’re a wrestler, you always miss it,” Saraya said. “I am starting to get the bug for it again. Because I went through a stage where I kind of, like, fell out of love with it for a second. And I’m just like, ‘I need to take a break from it.’ And that was the whole goal, you know?

“But I’ve just found, like, this new love for it again. And I’ve found this new passion for it again. I’m going to get into training in January, and we’ll see where that takes me. Because I feel like I do — if I was to ever come back, not saying I am, but if I was to ever come back, I want to be at the top of my game and be wrestling better than I was wrestling back when I was in NXT. So that’s my goal.”

Saraya noted that she’s talked with her friend Natalya about potentially training at the Dungeon. Saraya would absolutely love to make that happen.

“I miss it. I love it,” Saraya said about wrestling. “I think the percentage of me going back is a lot higher now, you know? But we’ll see where it goes. We’ll see where it goes. Who knows what will happen?”

Saraya — the former Paige — said she appreciates when fans show her love and want to see her come back and face some of her former WWE colleagues like AJ Lee. But Saraya does not like to talk about the possibility in interviews because some fans on social media take it the wrong way and think she’s begging for a job.

Outside of wrestling, Saraya loves hosting her “Rulebreakers” podcast. She also mentioned during the Toronto Sun interview that she could end up releasing another book down the line because she still has so much life left to live.

Saraya opens up about fan support: ‘Oh my god, people still like me’

During an emotional appearance on Busted Open Radio this week, Saraya opened up about how much recent fan support has meant to her.

The former Paige was asked if AJ Lee’s return to WWE has inspired her to want her own comeback. She responded by expressing interest in the idea, along with potentially working with Lee on-screen again at some point.

“You know, I’m always going to have that feeling, because WWE is doing amazing things right now,” Saraya said. “And you’re just like, man, I miss being in the locker room. I miss being around people like Nattie. I miss my sisters. You know, I do miss that. And I miss being a part of these things.

“And then when I watched AJ, I’ve watched that over and over again, because she’s my fairy godmother, dude. I love her so much. She was one that kind of took me under her wing when I first came up on the roster, too. And we traveled together and we had the frenemies thing.”

Saraya said, after Lee’s return, there have been a lot of fans on social media voicing that they want her back. That’s especially meaningful to Saraya because she thought fans didn’t like her anymore.

“And my social media has not stopped. It has blown up. I cannot go on there without hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people doing videos being like, ‘Please bring Saraya back, please bring Paige back.’ And I get excited — because I keep forgetting, I feel like people don’t like me anymore,” she said. “And it sounds pretty, you know, insecure and I’m not trying to get sympathy, but it made me really emotional for the past couple of days.

“And I have like shed some tears about it. Because I’m like, ‘Oh my god, people still like me. And they still want me to be around.’ That’s probably the best feeling in the world for me. Like, you know, I get insecure about these things. This world can be a little stressful and you get insecure. And so, yeah, that’s been amazing.

“With AJ, I would love to be her tag partner again or run it back eventually. You know, I’m not saying right away. She needs her moment. Like, people are excited for her to come back. Maybe one day, we’ll see.”

Saraya departed AEW this March, with the split being mutual and the sides remaining on good terms. She has taken some time away from the ring to focus on other pursuits, including launching a new podcast called “Rulebreakers.”

Despite moments of insecurity, Saraya said she does realize that she’s had a great career. Right now, she feels like she’s fallen in love with wrestling again and wants to advance her style in the ring.

“I feel like the past couple of years, I wasn’t fully invested in it as much. But I just found my love for it again,” she said. “And I’m just like, man, this is such an exciting time for wrestling. And I miss it. And I want to get back. I want to be Paige again — like the way she wrestled — the way Paige wrestled in NXT. I want that back, and I want to upgrade her. I’m not going to be crazy, but like I’m going to be — I want to do the new generation style of wrestling.”

If Saraya were to return to WWE competition, it would be her first time wrestling for the company since 2017. She was medically disqualified due to neck issues but remained with WWE in a non-wrestling role until her departure from the promotion in 2022. After that, she joined AEW for a two-plus year run that included a reign with the AEW Women’s World Championship.
