AEW Full Gear preview & predictions: One Title After Another

Image: AEW

Editor’s Note: The following is an opinion-based preview that reflects the views of the author and not the website.

I can feel AEW’s autumn fog lifting.

They ripped off a killer Blood and Guts last week and followed it up with a mostly solid week of TV, highlighted by the announcement of this year’s Continental Classic: AEW’s reliable creative defibrillator. Every year, the tournament gives Tony Khan a stable, crowd-pleasing tentpole to book around, and I’m hoping this installment brings the same spark.

Historically, the CC has triggered a significant shift in how hot the product feels. Suddenly, the matches are crisper, the promos tighten up, and the entire show carries a renewed sense of urgency. It’s the closest thing AEW has to flipping the ‘ON’ switch.

Hopefully the switch gets hit this Saturday from scenic Newark, New Jersey. Let’s run through the matches and predictions for this Saturday’s AEW Full Gear (8 PM Eastern main card start on PPV) and see how things shake out

Jon Moxley vs. Kyle O’Reilly in a no holds barred match

Hopefully, the end of Blood and Guts reawakened something inside Kyle O’Reilly and reminded him of what and who he is — the violent artist. He felt unleashed and at home in that match, capped off by the full-on moment of tapping out Jon Moxley in a bed of broken glass.

As Moxley does with everyone, he dragged the violence out of O’Reilly, and I pray he dragged it out for good. I’m sure the Conglomeration version of O’Reilly has its fans, but I am not one. That’s not an act to be taken seriously. The post-show promo after that match was a great start, and this week’s Dynamite was an incredible follow-up.

I’m excited to see what the NHB stipulation brings. If this lands, KOR is suddenly, and unexpectedly, a key player in AEW’s upper mid-card. What a wonderful development that would be. Mox has done a remarkable (and honestly shocking) amount of losing for a company ace. If he loses again, O’Reilly might be making a climb up the AEW pecking order.

And I’ll end with a question: Is this a Roderick Strong heel turn?

Prediction: Moxley wins

Darby Allin vs. PAC

This is a match with two men who have no regard for the integrity of their spinal columns. Allin’s bump freak proclivities require no explanation or exposition, but PAC is right there with him when it comes to the willingness to being spiked on his head. An enthusiastic and frequent vertebrae compressor, his absence from TV allows us to forget that no one is willing to eat a DDT quite like our newly short-haired king.

This pairing is long overdue. PAC is at his best when he gets to be cruel; Darby is at his best when someone tries to kill him. Even if there was no story between these two, the pairing is one worth watching. Instead, we have something compelling: Darby’s continual antagonism of the Death Riders and PAC’s desire to bend him (and everyone really) into a pretzel.

Pencil in a few groan-inducing bumps, Darby nearly paralyzing himself, and the slow realization that AEW will absolutely let these two try to fold each other like beach chairs.

Prediction: Darby Allin

Babes of Wrath (Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron) vs. Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) vs. Timeless Love Bombs (Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa) vs. Megan Bayne & Marina Shafir

The winning team gets to pick a stipulation for their semifinal match in the Women’s World Tag Team title tournament.

A four-way like this should feel like a showcase of a thriving division and, in most cases, it does. The Babes of Wrath bring energy and personality every time they show up, even if they skew too close to a comedy act for my liking (Willow should be champion).

The Sisters of Sin know who they are and what the act should be while the Timeless Love Bombs (lol) are pure camp and charisma. Full credit to Toni Storm for effortlessly slotting down from the main event scene to lend serious weight to the tournament. Bayne and Shafir work well as two unique forces of nature thrown together by circumstance. With more time to gel and unite in storyline, the accidental pairing of monsters could realistically anchor the division through its infancy.

And that gets to the heart of it: this still feels like a collection of potential rather than a field of established contenders. There’s talent everywhere, but not enough definition. If even one or two of these teams had been given a month more build or a reason to exist beyond the bracket, this could feel like a true showcase instead of a promising sketch. This division certainly isn’t struggling; it sometimes lacks the connective tissue needed to feel cohesive.

Prediction: Bayne & Shafir

Kenny Omega & Jurassic Express (Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) & Josh Alexander

This feels like it only exists to keep The Elite on the treadmill while AEW tries to figure out where the hell to point Kenny Omega next.

On Josh Nason’s podcast, we ended up talking about the diminishing supply of “true Kenny Omega matches” left, and he said something that stuck with me: every Omega match should feel like an event. Given the miles on his body, there’s no room for throwaways.

That’s why this match worries me. It doesn’t feel like it’s building to a spectacle; it just feels like a placeholder. Kenny doesn’t need elaborate stories or six weeks of promos. You can have him point at Josh Alexander, Kevin Knight, or Takeshita and say, “Let’s go” and boom, you’ve got something meaningful. Instead, we’re back in Elite-adjacent territory and the last time AEW went down that road, the returns were…uneven, to be kind.

Jurassic Express is here because AEW still thinks that brand has juice (they don’t) and think Alexander is excellent at professional wrestling (he is!). The Bucks seem like they won’t be joining the Don Callis family, and that’s what will cost them the match.

Prediction: Kenny Omega and Jurassic Express

Casino Gauntlet match for the inaugural AEW National Championship

My favorite part of writing these columns is the moment I hit “Submit Draft.” My second favorite part is coming up with the titles. And ironically, this column’s title was the only time I enjoyed referencing AEW’s ballooning championship collection (For my PTA heads, my other working title was ‘A Few Small Championships’).

Between AEW and the specter of ROH, there are simply too many belts for any of them to carry weight. Scarcity gives championships meaning and hierarchy gives a roster shape. AEW keeps adding gold like it has a hidden quota to hit, and every new belt chips away at the value of the others. The pecking order gets muddied as we inch toward a future where anyone even moderately competent has hardware. That’s not prestige, that’s clutter.

Prediction: I don’t know, probably Bobby Lashley? Don’t make me do this one.

TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher (w/ Don Callis) defends against Mark Briscoe in a no DQ match

If Briscoe loses, he will be forced to join the Don Callis Family.

Even though this feud still has a little juice left, it’s past its expiration date. This is their third PPV meeting of the year and while the first two matches ranged from good to genuinely great depending on your taste, the rivalry has been stretched thin. The heat just isn’t there anymore. If AEW wanted this to truly matter, the moment to put the TNT title on Briscoe was WrestleDream. That was the peak. Everything since has been diminishing returns.

The TNT Championship isn’t a title that benefits from a year-long saga and in this case, it’s been secondary to the feud the entire time. We’d celebrate a Briscoe triumph even without a belt attached. What people want is simple: Briscoe finally giving the smug prince of the Callis family his long-overdue comeuppance.

But stretching this any further won’t add meaning and continues to dilute what once could have landed with weight. Imagine if Briscoe had won the title months ago? That would have been ideal. Nevertheless, his time is now.

Prediction: Mark Briscoe

AEW World Tag Team Champions Brodido (Bandido and Brody King) defend against FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (w/ Stokely)

This match rules on paper: compatible styles, clearly evident chemistry, and, most importantly, the existence of Bandido. The man is a pro wrestling treasure with so much physical charisma, it’s sickening. Everything he does is must-see (he pinned Okada for god’s sake!). If that doesn’t tell you what AEW thinks of his future, nothing will.

FTR has been in an almost endless holding pattern, and, at long last, it seems like they have real forward momentum. Brodido, meanwhile, is still fresh and fun. The problem with fresh and fun is that it has a finite shelf life. History tells us that thrown-together tag teams rarely sustain momentum forever, no matter how good they are. AEW also loves the quick-hit shock run to give the unexpected team a little pop, then slide the belts back to the long-term pillars when it’s time to resume the Serious Stories™.

Here’s the twist, though: Brodido is too fun and too popular to cut off this early…which is exactly why FTR needs to win. A heel FTR paired with Stokely Hathaway has infinitely more long-term juice as champions than as chasers and beating such a popular team cements them as heels. Brodido can stay hot without the belts; FTR needs them.

Prediction: FTR

AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander defends against Mercedes Mone

This is the biggest test of Kris Statlander’s career. Can she go 15+ minutes with the women’s division’s version of the Best Bout Machine? Statlander has always been at her best when she’s pushed. When the moment demands something more, she finds it.

Winning the title was a genuine shock; the Toni Storm match at WrestleDream validated that surprise. But this? This is the one that seals the deal. A win over Mone establishes Statlander not just as champion, but as a made woman on top of the card for as long as she wants it.

As for the endless and agonising online whining about Mone collecting belts, please. Breathe some fresh air. Many of the titles she’s holding come from companies so small they barely have websites, let alone Wikipedia pages. The idea that putting their belts on a legitimate global star is “bad for their business” is galaxy-brained nonsense. If anything, she’s giving these titles oxygen and relevance they couldn’t dream of on their own.

More importantly, those complaints miss the entire point of the character. She’s collecting belts precisely because she can’t win the one that matters: the AEW Women’s World Championship. The overcompensating, the theatricality, the bravado are all armor covering the fact that she feels incomplete without that title. She’s chasing validation she can’t quite grasp, and she knows it. If you can’t see that this is interesting character work, try activating your frontal lobe.

Prediction: Kris Statlander

AEW World Champion Hangman Page defends against Samoa Joe in a steel cage

Samoa Joe brings a gravity that few on the roster can. The second he steps into a segment, the air gets heavy and the stakes rise. A steel cage is the perfect setting for him. When you wrestle Joe, there is no escape.

There’s a slight problem in this case: Page has his own propensities towards violence and a bloodlust all his own. He’s not afraid to be trapped in a cage with Joe, just like he wasn’t afraid to have a Texas Death Match with Jon Moxley. Sure, he’s the babyface champion now, but the other side of his coin is stained in blood.

Hangman’s reign has been good. Characterising it as boring might be a little short-sighted. No reign could ever match the catharsis of his ascent, capped by pulling the World title out from the briefcase and into the light. We’ll always remember that, but we need something to remember what happened after.

It would be a remarkable surprise for Hangman to lose on Saturday, but there’s too much meat on the bone. He’s never better than when he leans into his brutal side, and the cage allows for that. Page’s run at the top continues.

Prediction: Hangman Adam Page

One million dollar trios match added to AEW Full Gear

All Elite Wrestling has announced its first-ever million-dollar match.

Midway through tonight’s November 1st edition of Fright Night Collision, fans witnessed the announcement of a high-stakes match for Full Gear. Following The Young Bucks’ failed opportunity to earn a World tag-title shot, the duo were recently presented with the opportunity earn $1 million.

On Saturday’s Fright Night Collision, Don Callis presented the former EVPs with a lucrative offer they couldn’t refuse. He set up a million-dollar trios match for AEW Full Gear, featuring the team of The Young Bucks and Josh Alexander against Jurassic Express (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) and Kenny Omega.

Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks have been on a disappointing run since losing their EVP status at All In and are currently on a mission to earn their money back. Losing both their power and financial standing, the brothers have been determined to make a comeback for some time now.

Interestingly, the duo won $500,000 in September, which they later squandered in a casino. The Young Bucks also faced Jurassic Express at WrestleDream for a $500,000 cash prize, but came up short in that match as well.

AEW Full Gear 2025 updated match card

Set to take place on November 22nd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, All Elite Wrestling have currently announced five matches for the show. With still several weeks left before the PPV, here are five advertised bouts:

  • “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Samoa Joe – AEW World Championship
  • Kris Statlander (c) vs. Mercedes Moné – AEW Women’s World Championship
  • Brodido (Bandido and Brody King) (c) vs. FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (with Stokely) – AEW World Tag-Team Championship
  • Kenny Omega and Jurassic Express (Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) and Josh Alexander – Trios match for $1 million cash prize
  • Big Boom AJ and QT Marshall vs. RPG Vice (Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta)

Big Boom AJ wins AEW debut at Full Gear Zero Hour

TikTok star AJ Befumo now has a 1-0 record in AEW.

With an assist from his son Big Justice, Befumo was able to defeat QT Marshall on the AEW Full Gear pre-show. The match marked a successful return to the ring for the 48-year-old Befumo, a former indie wrestler who has not regularly competed in two decades.

The closing stretch of the match saw Big Justice (Eric Befumo) get involved after Aaron Solo tried to interfere on behalf of Marshall. The younger Befumo took out Marshall with a spear, then his father hit a “Power Boom” to get the victory.

Befumo and Big Justice have become social media sensations over the past year, building a following on TikTok with their father-son channel. They are called the “Costco Guys” with their most popular videos being trips to Costco and rating food products.

For this match, Befumo went by the name Big Boom AJ and entered to “We Bring the Boom” — a song that he and Big Justice released over the summer that went viral on social media and helped their rise to fame.

Befumo and Big Justice also had their friend and fellow TikTok celebrity The Rizzler (Christian Joseph) with them. The young child served as the guest timekeeper and celebrated with Befumo and Big Justice after ringing the bell. Before the finish, there was a moment where Wight needed to protect The Rizzler when Marshall went over to the timekeeper’s area.

What comes next for Befumo in wrestling remains to be seen. He’s said that — if Full Gear went well – he’d be honored to have more matches with AEW in the future. Tony Khan has spoken highly of Befumo and Big Justice, saying he’s learned a lot about marketing from them. Befumo was able to promote Full Gear during appearances on The Tonight Show, Fox Business, and other mainstream outlets leading into the event.

Befumo was called “The American Powerchild” Eric Justice when he used to compete on the indies. He wrestled “for about 11 years” from the 1990s-2000s.

Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall official for AEW Full Gear pre-show

One of social media’s biggest breakout stars of 2024 is officially set to make his AEW debut.

AEW has confirmed that AJ Befumo — a former indie wrestler who has gained famed on TikTok — will step back into the ring against QT Marshall on the Full Gear pre-show next month. Befumo has signed a one-match deal with AEW and, earlier this month, challenged Marshall to face him at Full Gear.

The pay-per-view is being held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, November 23.

“You wanted to do this for free on the Zero Hour, in front of all your friends and family. Well, AJ, just because you think that New Jersey is your hometown — I got another thing coming for you,” Marshall said in a promo. “New Jersey, I was born. New Jersey, I was raised. And in New Jersey, at Full Gear, I’m going to beat you. I’m going to embarrass you. I’m going to prove to you that 20 years ago when you walked away from professional wrestling and passed the torch to me, QT Marshall, you made the absolute right decision of your life.

“And I’m going to send you back to TikTok land. I’m going to embarrass you in front of your friends, your family, in front of Big Justice. Because AJ, you’re going to bring the boom — but QT Marshall is going to bring the doom.”

Befumo went by the name Eric Justice in his past career as an indie wrestler. He’s billed as Big Boom AJ for this match against Marshall.

On TikTok, Befumo and his son Big Justice (Eric Befumo) have become known as the “Costco Guys,” filming their trips to the wholesale store and expressing their love for Costco’s chicken bake and double chunk chocolate cookie.

They went viral with their song “We Bring the Boom” this summer.

Big Justice will be in Befumo’s corner for the Full Gear match.

Here’s what’s been announced for Full Gear so far:

AEW Full Gear 2024 —

Jay White to face Hangman Page at AEW Full Gear

Full Gear 2024 will host the next chapter in Jay White and Hangman Page’s feud.

After defeating Shane Taylor on AEW Collision tonight, White cut a promo challenging Page to face him at the Saturday, November 23 pay-per-view. It was announced later in the night that Tony Khan has made the match official. Page will address White and their Full Gear match while appearing on Dynamite this coming Wednesday.

This will be the second straight AEW PPV where White and Page have faced each other. White defeated Page at WrestleDream earlier this month, giving him a 4-1 record over Page through the course of their careers. White touted in his promo tonight that — at every step — he has always been ahead of Page. He offered Page a chance at redemption by facing him at Full Gear.

Following his loss at WrestleDream, Page cost White a match against Christian Cage on Dynamite last week. There was an angle this Wednesday where Page came up limping while fending off an attack by the Bang Bang Gang. White has referenced that storyline injury in his promos against Page.

Page’s one victory against White was in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament this summer. Interference by Christian led to White losing that match.

The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey wil be the venue for Full Gear.

AEW Full Gear 2024 (Saturday, November 23) —

Bryan & Vinny Show: Final Dynamite before Full Gear 2023, high-camp NXT

The Bryan & Vinny Show is back with tons to talk about in our look at AEW Dynamite this week, the final A-show build towards Full Gear, and an unusually bad edition of NXT, although it led to a great deal of mirth, and the main event was a very good segment. A fun show as always so check it out~!

Tony Khan: New AEW signing will be revealed at Full Gear

At Full Gear, AEW will unveil a new member of the promotion’s roster.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Tony Khan hyped that AEW “has agreed to terms with one of the world’s best wrestlers.” Though Khan didn’t reveal the identity of the new acquisition, Khan stated that they will be in Los Angeles to sign their AEW contract at this Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view.

Khan wrote:

AEW has agreed to terms with one of the world’s best wrestlers, a pro who is known + respected by virtually every @AEW fan! They’ll come to LA to sign their contract THIS SATURDAY 11/18 on ppv at #AEWFullGear!

Khan didn’t state whether the new signing is male or female.

Omega & Jericho vs. Young Bucks stipulation match added to AEW Full Gear

Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho will team against The Young Bucks with a Tag Team title shot and more in the balance at AEW Full Gear.

Omega & Jericho as The Golden Jets will face Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks at Full Gear with The Bucks’ guaranteed AEW Tag Team title shot at stake. Additionally, Omega & Jericho must disband as a team should they lose. The Young Bucks earned the Tag Team title shot with a victory in a four-way match at WrestleDream on October 1.

The Full Gear bout was agreed to in a backstage promo segment on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Seven matches are now set for the Full Gear event, with six currently set for the main card and another announced for the Zero Hour pre-show.

The current lineup:

AEW Full Gear, Saturday, November 18, 8 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view —

  • AEW World Champion MJF defends against Jay White
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Toni Storm

Three new matches announced for AEW Full Gear

Three new matches have been announced for AEW Full Gear set for Saturday, November 18 on pay-per-view.

It was made official during Wednesday’s Dynamite that Adam Copeland will team with Sting & Darby Allin at Full Gear in a trios match against TNT Champion Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne.

Copeland had teased not wanting to fight Cage in the build to the contest, but said that Sting had convinced him otherwise during his in-ring interview on Dynamite. Copeland then laid out Cage with a spear.

The International Championship will also be on the line at Full Gear.

Orange Cassidy will defend the International title against former champ Jon Moxley in a rematch from September’s All Out pay-per-view main event. Cassidy retained his title on Dynamite with a win over Moxley’s BCC teammate Claudio Castagnoli, but was attacked by Moxley after the match.

Also set for Full Gear, Hangman Page will take on Swerve Strickland in a rematch from WrestleDream.

Page left the ring during an ROH Six-Man title defense on this week’s Dynamite to go after Strickland a week after Strickland invaded Page’s home in a pre-taped segment.

The updated Full Gear card:

AEW Full Gear, Saturday, November 18, 8 p.m. Eastern time —

  • AEW World Champion MJF defends against Jay White
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Toni Storm
  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Jon Moxley
  • Adam Copeland, Sting & Darby Allin vs. Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne

Zero Hour pre-show, 7 p.m. Eastern time —

  • MJF & a mystery partner defend the ROH Tag Team Championship against The Gunns

The Elite return at AEW Full Gear, lose Trios title match

The Elite are back in AEW — but Death Triangle are still the Trios Champions.

In their first match in more than two months, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks unsuccessfully challenged for the AEW Trios titles at Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view. PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix retained after Fenix gave in and cheated to get the win.

After initially refusing to use a hammer when PAC wanted him to, Fenix struck Omega with the hammer and pinned him to get the victory. Omega was going for the One Winged Angel, but PAC put the hammer in Fenix’s hand. When Omega lifted Fenix up, Fenix hit him with the hammer.

Death Triangle became AEW Trios Champions after The Elite were stripped of the titles this September. The Elite were crowned the inaugural champions at All Out, but they had to vacate the titles following their involvement in the post-All Out brawl.

AEW’s investigation into CM Punk and The Elite’s backstage fight concluded last month with The Elite being brought back but CM Punk expected to exit the company.

At Full Gear, The Young Bucks & Omega entered to the song “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas. The Young Bucks filed a trademark for “The Wayward Sons” on November 3, but they recently abandoned the trademark application.

There were “F*ck CM Punk” and “Colt Cabana” chants by the crowd during Death Triangle vs. The Elite.

Britt Baker says AEW Full Gear match is ‘so progressive for our division’

Ahead of Full Gear, Britt Baker spoke to Sports Illustrated about being Saraya’s first opponent in nearly five years.

Saraya (formerly known as Paige in WWE) will make her return to the ring as she faces Baker at Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view. It will be the first time Saraya has wrestled since 2017, when she suffered a neck injury that forced her to retire.

Baker told Sports Illustrated that the match is a point of progress for the AEW women’s division.

“It’s so progressive for our division,” Baker said. “It’s a story-driven match. It’s a very compelling story, and the match is going to be even more exciting.”

Baker noted that, while Saraya has been away from in-ring competition for five years, the one thing they have in common is that professional wrestling is their life.

“She’s been out of the game for five years,” Baker said. “That’s a long time. For all our differences, we have one thing in common—wrestling is our life. We’re going to wrestle like our lives depend on it.”

With Saraya being medically cleared to return to the ring, Baker told Sports Illustrated she isn’t worried about Saraya having limitations.

“She’s cleared. By this point, her neck is probably better than mine,” Baker said. “At first, I was really concerned. Working around someone’s neck is very daunting. But she’s cleared, and we’re going to wrestle.”

Baker said facing a star like Saraya is a challenge that she welcomes.

“I don’t take this opportunity lightly. It is a challenge I welcome. Saraya is a star. She’s one of the best wrestlers in the world. Not everyone knows Britt Baker. Having a match with a star of her caliber is the next step I need in my career,” Baker said. “I feel similar to the way I did before the ‘Lights Out’ match against Thunder Rosa. I knew the match had to be excellent. I’m in that position again, and I’m ready to deliver.”

Full Gear is taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night. The PPV main card will begin at 8 p.m. Eastern time. The Buy-In pre-show starts at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Kenny Omega, Young Bucks tease appearance at AEW Full Gear

The latest tease from The Elite indicates they may appear at AEW Full Gear on November 19.

Wednesday’s tease had images of the Full Gear graphics shown as pictures from The Elite’s past were shown in rapid succession., as well as images from the trio growing up. A clock was shown starting to tick towards the end of the video.

Teases for The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega’s return have been shown in recent weeks on AEW television. The first promo showed pictures of big moments in AEW history the trio was involved in, but in each still frame they were shown vanishing, with the final image showing the AEW logo disappearing.

The Elite, along with CM Punk and Ace Steel, were suspended from the company following the AEW All Out media scrum in September after a fight broke out. It was eventually reported that AEW and CM Punk were negotiating a buyout from Punk’s contract, and Steel was released from the company following an investigation.
