Team Jericho wins Stadium Stampede at AEW Double or Nothing, list of notable spots & restrictions

In a wild Stadium Stampede match, Team Jericho took home the win at Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing.

Put in the co-main event spot, the end of the match came when Team Ricochet’s Bishop Kaun shoved Ricochet out of the way before Chris Jericho could finish him off to end a sequence of Team Jericho finishers. Kaun then got hit with a seven-way superkick and a lionsault for the pin and win.

The rest of Team Ricochet were taken out prior to that: Bobby Lashley took out Mark Davis through a table with a spear preceded by him back suplexing Toa Liona through a table, The Dogs taken out by the Young Bucks with stereo top turnbuckle elbow drops through tables and Kenny Omega hitting the One Winged Angel to Andrade through a table on the outside of the ring.

After the win, Jericho jumped through a table in a tribute to Sabu.

Of note from our Bryan Alvarez, the New York State Athletic Commission wouldn’t allow blood or brawling through the crowd.

The match featured Jericho, Omega, Matt and Nick Jackson, Jack Perry, Lashley and Shelton Benjamin against Ricochet, Liona, Kaun, Clark Connors, David Finlay, Davis and Andrade.

Both teams had cinematic intros with Team Jericho all dressed up wearing suits with Metallica’s Devil’s Dance as an overlay while Team Ricochet entered in various vehicles with The Demand sporting baseball uniforms in a nod to the Baseball Furies in the cult classic movie The Warriors.

Among the notable spots:

The Young Bucks reunite with Kenny Omega at AEW Full Gear

The Elite have reunited.

After weeks of debating whether or not to join the Don Callis Family, Matt and Nick Jackson finally rejected Don Callis’ offer on Saturday, choosing instead to lay out Don Callis’ family and reunite with Kenny Omega after a long period of estrangement.

The Young Bucks and Josh Alexander emerged victorious on Saturday at Full Gear, defeating Jurassic Express and Kenny Omega in a 1 million dollar trios match. After winning, Callis arrived and handed bags of money to the Bucks, walking them away as the rest of the family targeted Jurassic Express and Omega. When the Young Bucks saw what was going on at the entrance ramp, they debated for a moment before abandoning the money and making the save for their former friends.

Once the dust was cleared, Jurassic Express accepted The Young Bucks’ help. Omega made it to his feet but didn’t know how to react when Matt and Nick extended their hands. Omega swatted their hands away, instead choosing to embrace them as the three hugged, officially reuniting.

Since losing their EVP status at All In, The Young Bucks have struggled for money and became the joke of the locker room that they previously tormented. The one person who had their back was Don Callis, who paid for their elaborate entrances with the impression that they would be joining his family.

AEW Dynamite live results: ROH World title Ladder War

In a WrestleDream rematch, Mark Briscoe will defend the Ring of Honor World title against Chris Jericho in a Ladder War on tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Salt Lake City, Utah.

After the recent chaos the Blackpool Combat Club has caused the past week, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley will make an appearance.

The Elite (AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks & TNT Champion Jack Perry) will battle Daniel Garcia & Private Party and in another trios bout, the full House of Black will be action.

Shelton Benjamin will be in action against former TNT Champion and current ROH Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara who is returning after a concussion.

After dropping a decision to Mercedes Mone last week, Queen Aminata will take on Mone’s bodyguard Kamille.

Kyle Fletcher of The Don Callis Family will explain why he attacked Will Ospreay at WrestleDream, and Hook has promised to confront the attacker(s) of his father, Taz.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with footage of The BCC standing tall at WrestleDream with Jon Moxley questioning what the new paradigm is in AEW, as they all work for him now. They continue to run rampant as The Elite were shown turning their backs to the carnage last week. Moxley said imagine what they all could become, as tonight, a little piece of someone will be destroyed for the greater good. Moxley hops in the back of the pickup truck with the rest of the crew in the desert and drives off. The AEW locker room is awaiting The BCC to arrive in the parking lot, as it consisted of The Conglomeration, Top Flight, Action Andretti, Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, The Butcher & Dark Order.

Excalibur welcomes us to the show alongside Daddy Magic Matt Menard, as Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces Hangman Adam Page to the ring to address what happened in the main event last week.

Schiavone brings up Page losing to Switchblade Jay White at WrestleDream and costing White his match with Christian Cage last week. Page rips the microphone away and mentioned dropping White with the Switchblade with a Buckshot, nearly ending Juice Robinson’s career and beating Austin Gunn so badly he can’t remember his brother’s name. Right on cue, Colten Gunn attacked Page from behind, as the brawl spilled outside, where Gunn was backdropped over the barricade. Back in the ring, Page took off his belt and went to choke out Gunn until White & Robinson made the save, as White shot a double leg, but Page escaped. Page was limping big time from the brawl with Gunn, as White said he can hobble away, but he can’t hide. White knows how much that leg hurts Page, as does the fact that he has Page’s number. The banner reads All Elite Wrestling, but Page can cover up his shortcomings with blood, barbed wire and fire as he pleases, when the bell rings, he’ll never measure up to the Switchblade. They haven’t seen the last of each other, so Page can ice his leg and they’ll see one another real soon.

Shelton Benjamin (w/MVP) defeated Sammy Guevara

(I enjoyed this while it lasted, as Guevara got off quite a bit of offense in this. Benjamin needed a strong showing before his match with Swerve Strickland next week and he got to show off a lot of his power once again. Guevara landed pretty rough on the springboard finish and seemed to hold his ankle, so I hope that’s nothing serious.)

Wasting no time, Benjamin used his size to completely launch Guevara in the air at the bell. Guevara avoided a stalling vertical suplex, turning it into his double leapfrog dropkick before low bridging Benjmain outside, connecting with a top rope moonsault. Guevara wanted another dive, but MVP distracted him long enough for Benjamin to recover, catch the dive and hurl Guevara over his head with a suplex onto the stage into commercial.

It was all Benjamin during the break, as he took Guevara to Suplex City with a series of German suplexes. Guevara finally got off a near fall off a counter to a T-Bone, as a thrust kick trapped Benjamin in the ropes and a pump knee sent him outside. Guevara hit a corkscrew dive before back inside, tried another springboard, but Benjamin side stepped, wanted a German, but Guevara landed on his feet. Pop-up cutter got only a one for Guevara, who tried a springboard, only for Benjamin to hit a superkick in mid-air. One more superkick led to a step-up corner knee and T-Bone suplex for the win.

-Renee Paquette approaches Mariah May, who walks out of the locker room with a suitcase. It’s Anna Jay’s and she opens and tosses it down the hallway. May said Jay doesn’t belong in the same ring with her, let alone the locker room. Jay runs in and they start to brawl and Christopher Daniels is there within a split second to separate them.

Kyle Fletcher Explains His Actions

Tony Schiavone welcomes Fletcher & Don Callis to the ring, as they are met with loud boos from the crowd. Fletcher said the fans can boo all they want, but the only person he’s here to talk to, is Will Ospreay. 11 days since Ospreay lost his International Title, hobbled up in a hospital due to the herniated disc he doesn’t tell anyone about. Fletcher said the idiot fans are to blame just as much as Ospreay, as they said he was the next big thing with the brightest future in pro wrestling. Then Ospreay showed up and they started calling Fletcher the next Will Ospreay. The inbred Americans said Fletcher looked, sounded and wrestled like Ospreay, which he took as an insult, as he’s better than Ospreay in every single way. Back in 2021, when Fletcher joined United Empire, Ospreay was the king with a killer instinct. The crowd chants for him to wrap it up, as Fletcher reminds them that Don Callis has bought him all the TV time he wants, so they will listen to him.

Fletcher brings up Okada bringing in Ospreay to New Japan, but what did he do, he stabbed Okada in the back. Fletcher brought up Kenny Omega leaving New Japan and Ospreay stepping up as the biggest foreigner there. Once fans started comparing Ospreay to Omega, Ospreay did what Fletcher did, use the screwdriver to prove his point, it’s the lesson that Ospreay taught Fletcher. Don Callis made Fletcher realize that Ospreay never wanted him to realize his potential, as that’s the person Ospreay is, selfish. He’ll give Ospreay one chance to save face next week, ignoring doctor’s orders, meeting him in the ring before sending him back to the hospital much longer than 11 days with Tiger Driver after Tiger Driver. Fletcher will stand tall as The Proto-star, who will do so by being nothing like Will Ospreay. Callis hands Fletcher a razor, as he screamed that he’s nothing like Ospreay and shaves his head. This was an excellent promo from Fletcher, one that got a lot of heat.

-Footage of Konosuke Takeshita defending the International Title at the Maple Leaf Pro show against Josh Alexander was shown. Ricochet made the save and taking out Takeshita with a dive, as we go to Renee Paquette backstage with Ricochet, who said he’s a man of his word, saying he’d show up anywhere to get his hands on Takeshita. Despite not being pinned by Takeshita, it’s been him screwing him out of the title twice, so he challenges Takeshita to show up on Rampage and prove that he’s out of this world. MVP walks in with a business card saying new company, new beginnings and compliments Ricochet on his suit, as he gives a long look at the business card.

ROH TV Champion Brian Cage & Lance Archer won a squash match

Don Callis was on commentary long enough to tell us this is the biggest tag team in wrestling before heading to the ring. We were never told who the opponents were, as a chokeslam/powerbomb combo won the match in about 30 seconds.

**********

The AEW crew is still in the parking waiting for the BCC as Chuck Taylor walks up and tells The Conglomeration that Briscoe’s match is next. Taylor stops Orange Cassidy and brings up living together until AEW came along. He doesn’t know who has what it takes to stand up to the BCC, but knows that Cassidy does, so it’s about damn time he shows it. They walk off together, as Excalibur said that was tough love from Taylor, who is a backstage producer now. I’ve missed seeing Taylor on TV, whose career we’re informed is over thanks to Trent Beretta, as this was another person trying to make Cassidy realize he can be the face of AEW.

Chris Jericho defeated Mark Briscoe in a Ladder War to win the ROH World Title

(This was a fun chaotic ladder match with some wild bumps by both. A good way to get the title off Briscoe without taking a pin. I’d much prefer Briscoe as solely an AEW guy moving forward, as he’s done everything he could in ROH, so having Jericho back as champion of that brand is fine to go back to. They should keep Jericho on ROH for a while though. Let him be the face of ROH and be The Nueve, as he already seemingly has his first challenger in Ishii.)

Briscoe chucked a ladder at Jericho from the floor to the ring and shoulder tackled him off the apron through two tables. Briscoe could end it now, but commentary brings up opting for punishment due to Jericho bringing up Jay Briscoe’s name. Jericho battled back with a suplex on the floor and smacked Briscoe with a piece of the broken table. Both men battle on the apron before Briscoe set up Jericho onto a ladder, tried a dive, but crashed and burned badly, going right through the ladder. Jericho set up a pretty small ladder to climb, so Briscoe easily recovered quick enough to put a stop to it. Jericho darted the ladder into Briscoe’s face and he cam up bleeding as things went to commercial.

Back from break, Jericho is climbing for the title, but Briscoe set up a ladder in the corner and hit a Death Valley Driver on Jericho through it. Briscoe slowly climbed to the corner, but Jericho cut him off with a ladder. Briscoe pie-faced Jericho down holding the ladder and hit a follow-up senton. Opting for another table gave Jericho time to climb for the belt again, as a slug-fest ensued near the top. Briscoe had his face smashed against the top, fell off, but was able to get up in time to send Jericho crashing down into the match reset.

Jericho tried a bulldog, but was crotched into a corner ladder. Briscoe fired up, set the table up with Jericho on top before climbing the big ladder, looking for a Froggy Bow, but Bryan Keith sprinted out and climbed the ladder. Rocky Romero ran out with a kendo stick and chased Keith off, as Briscoe hit the Froggy Bow after standing on the tippy top of the ladder. Jericho smacked his head badly on another ladder laying in the ring, as Briscoe connected on a Jay Driller before starting his climb. Big Bill appeared and chokeslammed Briscoe off the ladder to the floor through two tables. Bill placed Jericho on his shoulders in a fireman’s carry and climbed the ladder, allowing Jericho to grab the title.

Jericho celebrated for about 10 seconds until Tomohiro Ishii walked out with Romero to crash the party. They had a stare down from the ramp, as Jericho clutched the title while Briscoe was out on the floor.

The Undisputed Kingdom Call Out MJF

Adam Cole came out and was about to start Storytime with Adam Cole when he was cut off by a screaming Roderick Strong with The Kingdom, which I can only imagine drove people nuts hearing “ADAM!” again. Strong said MJF used Cole and the Adam Cole brand in order to make the fans care about him. MJF didn’t even check in on Cole once when he was injured, but The Kingdom & Strong did. Mike Bennett said he knows MJF believes Undisputed Kingdom was formed to because of him, but their friendship has always been way bigger than Max, they started this together, they’re going to finish it. Matt Taven said a year ago they said yes to the plan before Cole even finished his first sentence. The best moments of his life has been when they’re all together. Strong said he’s proud of Cole, who worked his ass off this past year to get back from that ankle injury. More importantly, he’s proud to get rid of Max, together and said he wants Max first. Cole said Strong is damn right, they’re going to finish what they started one way or another, so how about tonight, they all give MJF an Undisputed ass whopping?

MJF is shown on the big screen getting massaged on a table and asked if Cole remembered about the revenge he was dangling over him last week. Cole will never get his hands on MJF, but tells both Cole & Strong, whoever wins three matches first, will get a match with MJF at Full Gear. MJF said he’s not going to show up until Full Gear and wishes whoever will be there, they’ll get their happy ending, he knows he will, as MJF looks up at the masseuse. The Undisputed Kingdom all hug and said it doesn’t matter how many matches they have to win, they’ll do it, as we see Kyle O’Reilly looking on from backstage.

-A video package of Penelope Ford explaining her actions on why she attacked Jamie Hayter a few weeks ago. Hayter teamed with Ford in her last match two years ago and she’s back to remind people just who the hell she is. Renee Paquette is backstage with Hayter who said she listened to everything Ford said and it’s all BS. Hayter slept on floors, had a minus in her bank account, wrestling in front of 20 drunk men. Hayter said she’ll make Ford the victim of her return and issues a challenge two weeks from tonight.

The House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews) defeated Kevin Koa, Jaden Monroe & Puerata de la Muerte

Black immediately hit The End kick on one Muerte, as Matthews tagged in, hit a double stomp on the arm of a terrified Koa, who managed a strike to escape. Tag to Monroe, as he suffered a series of offense until Koa was back in and got steamrolled by King. Double pop-up knee from Black & Matthews, who followed up with a Curb Stomp for the win.

Matthews took the mic and said now that he’s cleared, next week, Buddy Matthews vs. Adam Cole Bay-Bay.

-Adam Cole approached Matthews backstage and asked if he has anything else say? Matthews called him fragile and walked away.

Kamille (w/Mercedes Mone) defeated Queen Aminata

(Another week where Aminata looked very good, even in defeat. Like I said last week in her match with Mone, Aminata needs some wins, soon. She’s in this spot where she loses higher profile matches way too often. Maybe have a tag match soon with Statlander against these two and give Aminata a win that way? In any case, Statlander & Kamille are ready to clash next week, so I know why Kamille needed the win here more than Aminata.)

After Kamille showed off her power early, Aminata was able to battled back with a series of pin attempts before running into a brutal back breaker. Kamille stood tall and controlled the action throughout commercial break, keeping Aminata grounded.

Aminata dodged a leg lariat when things returned, as a violent running elbow popped Kamille right in the face. A snap neckbreaker led to a wild running boot in the ropes to get a near fall, the most trouble we’ve seen Kamille in so far in AEW. Aminata wrapped up Kamille like a pretzel, but Kamille bridged into a two count. Kamille tried a powerbomb, but Aminata rolled through for another near fall. Kamille managed a Torture Rack spun into a sit-out slam, but Aminata kicked out. Mone demanded Kamille finish her, as a really awkward spinning reverse neckbreaker won it.

Mone walked in and celebrated with Kamille until Kris Statlander came to the ring for a face-off ahead of the match next week. Mone tried to trash talk and hit a cheap shot, which Statlander no sold and fought both off easily until Mone grabbed the leg, allowing Kamille to hit the spinning neckbreaker to stand tall with the TBS Champion.

-A car arrives to the arena and all of The AEW guys waiting for the BCC are shown demanding they get out of the car. It’s The Patriarchy, as Christian Cage tells them all to back off until he sees Kip Sabian trying to sneak away, but the chase was on, as Cage, Nick & Shayna Wayne all chased Sabian to the ring.

HOOK is shown storming backstage, as Renee Paquette asks if he knows who attacked his father and he said the scumbag in the ring right now. Commentary questions who of the four in the ring that could be, as HOOK hit the ring and was about to attack Cage when Sabian hit a low blow. Cage said he knows why Sabian took his pen and prevent him from cashing in his AEW Title shot a few weeks ago, but he’ll deal with him later, so stand in the corner. Nick Wayne tried Wayne’s World once, but HOOK got REDRUM, as Cage hit him in the back with the case holding the World Title contract. Wayne hit Wayne’s World and Cage hit the Killswitch on the case. Cage whispered to “Tyler” that this isn’t what he thinks it is, it’s not what it seems, as The Patriarchy walk off with Sabian as HOOK is left to slowly recover.

Daniel Garcia & Private Party defeated The Elite (Jack Perry, Matthew & Nicholas Jackson)

(Party match main event that had the future challengers for the TNT & Tag Titles getting the win, with the post-match being the far bigger story. Private Party set the stips for their rematch next week, but also The BCC taking out Orange Cassidy’s best friend, Chuck Taylor to end the show. I’m glad Cassidy wasn’t part of the whole crew who were just made to look like dorks waiting in the parking lot the entire night, as The BCC outsmarted about 12 different guys with ease in that regard. I’m looking forward to seeing the fire lit under Cassidy now that his best friend is out of commission.)

Garcia & Perry brawl, as Zay & Quen wipe out The Bucks with dueling dives as the match officially begins. Perry goes for the eyes on Garcia, who fights off Matthew, until both The Bucks & Private Party hit double clotheslines, but all kip up at the same time. Poetry in Motion on Perry & Matthew, as we’re shown the AEW crew still waiting in the parking lot for the BCC, almost 2 hours later. Perry connected with a draping DDT off the apron on Garcia, as simultaneously The Bucks hit their double team hung up senton on Zay as things went to picture in picture.

Back from break, Stokely Hathaway is in the front row talking trash to Zay, as commentary talks about Hathaway not having a purpose if he has no one to manage. Garcia was trying for the hot tag, but Matthew pulled him from the apron at the last second and sent him to the guard rail. Perry connected with a powerbomb on Garcia through the time keepers table, as The Bucks hit Risky Business on Zay for two. Zay managed a double takedown off the top and hot tag to Quen, who was a house of fire on The Elite. The Bucks rolled through a double hurricanrana and got a Superkick Party, as Zay tagged back in, but Perry hit a Poison Rana for two. The hung up in the ropes double stomp into the powerbomb got The Bucks a two on Zay, as Garcia recovered and sent Perry flying over the barricade with a big boot. Zay battled off both Matthew & Nicholas, who wanted a TK Driver, but Private Party hit the Silly String into a cradle for the flash pin.

Post match, Zay took the mic and told The Bucks they proved they have their number and again asked for a rematch for the Tag Titles. The Bucks walked off until Zay said he has an offer they won’t turn down. If Private Party loses the rematch, they’ll split up as a team for good. Quen seemed surprised by this, but The Bucks accepted and Zay was psyched and the match is on for next week.

-Backstage, The BCC truck finally arrives to the arena, but it’s just Marina Shaffir, as it was a diversion, as PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta all attack Garcia & Private Party with chairs. Jon Moxley, wearing all black, drags Chuck Taylor down the ramp and to the ring, as they initially placed a chair around the ankle, but instead put it on the neck. Castagnoli stomped on it and they bailed, with Yuta initially shocked before the AEW crew rushed to the ring and Yuta also bailed. The Elite watched this all happen on the ramp as a stunned Orange Cassidy was by Taylor’s side, as he was tended to by doctors.

Elite vs. Conglomeration trios match added to AEW Dynamite

A new match announcement has been made for this week’s WrestleDream fallout edition of AEW Dynamite.

The Elite (Kazuchika Okada & The Young Bucks) will team up against The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy & Rocky Romero) in trios action this Wednesday night. The match will continue the build to a likely AEW Continental Championship match between Okada and O’Reilly.

During the WrestleDream pre-show, there was an angle where O’Reilly interrupted a backstage interview with Okada. O’Reilly — who said he has nothing but respect for Okada — wanted to challenge him for the Continental title. Okada turned down the challenge and called O’Reilly a “bitch,” which led to a brawl between the two.

Okada and O’Reilly were ejected from the arena at WrestleDream as part of the angle. Later in the night, The Young Bucks retained their AEW Tag Team titles against Private Party.

The SAP Center in San Jose, California is the venue for this week’s Dynamite. Here’s everything that’s been announced for the show so far:

AEW Dynamite (Wednesday, October 16) —

  • New AEW World Champion Jon Moxley appears
  • Mercedes Mone vs. Queen Aminata
  • Kazuchika Okada & The Young Bucks vs. Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy & Rocky Romero
  • Jay White vs. Christian Cage

Taped from Pittsburgh, PA.

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone & Matt Menard were on commentary.

Katsuyori Shibata & Private Party defeated The Young Bucks & Jack Perry (15:00)

Shibata and Perry started things out. Nothing like loading up a show with star power after it’s been canceled. Shibata got Perry down on the mat and went for a juji gatame, but Perry quickly got to the ropes. Nick Jackson blindsided Shibata and both he and Perry took advantage. Marq Quen got a tag and took Nick down with a step-up rana, then both members of Private Party double-teamed both of the Young Bucks. Shibata ran in and booted Perry to the floor, and Private Party hit stereo planchas on the Bucks on the floor. Soon all six guys were fighting on the floor. Perry whipped Shibata into the ring barricade.

Back in the ring, Nick hit one member of Private Party with a senton while Perry dropped the other with a hanging DDT on the floor.

After the split-screen break, Zay took both the Bucks down with a hiptoss, backdropped Perry to the floor, and avoided a dive from Matt Jackson. He dove for the tag to Shibata, but Perry pulled Shibata to the floor. The Bucks hit Zay with an assisted Sliced Bread and a sliding knee for a near fall. Perry set Zay up for a powerbomb in the corner, but Zay countered with a rana (that sent Perry into a double kick from The Bucks). Zay finally got the tag to Quen, who caught Matt with a powerslam and took both Bucks down with a rana. The Bucks dropped to the floor, and Quen followed them out with a springboard dive. Back in the ring, Quen hit a springboard crossbody on Matt for a near fall.

Quen went to the top, but Perry crotched him. Matt sent Quen crashing down with a top rope Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Shibata got the tag to square off with Perry. Perry hit Shibata with a dropkcik but Shibata came back with forearms. Private Party and Shibata triple teamed Perry, and Shibata got a near fall after a boot. Shibata hit the PK kick for a near fall, but Matthew Jackson broke the pin attempt up.

Shibata worked over Perry in the corner with forearms. The Bucks caught Shibata and Zay with a pair of superkicks, and Perry joined them to give Quen a tripe superkick. The Bucks got a near fall on Quen with a slingshot sitdown powerbomb. Perry set Quen up for something, but Zay used his partner as a springboard for a Canadian Destroyer. Private Party hit the Gin and Juice on Perry for a near fall.

Matt blocked the Silly String with a Northern Lights suplex. The Bucks wiped out Zay with the EVP Trigger. They set up Quen for the Meltzer Driver, but Zay tripped up Nick and Quen rolled up Zay to get the pinfall! I didn’t see that one coming. Fun party match.

Top Flight v. House of Black v. Private Party for the title shot at WrestleDream will happen on Collision tomorrow night.

– Renee Paquette interviewed Kris Statlander, who called herself a “born again Kristin.” She started to put herself over, but was interrupted by Kamille, who shoulder-checked her on the way to her match.

Kamille (w/ Mercedes Mone) defeated Zoey Lynn (0:16)

Kamille hit a spear as soon as the bell rang, then hit an inverted neckbreaker/Cross Rhodes to get the win.

– Deonna Purrazzo and Taya Valkyrie cut a weird promo about their partnership.

Queen Aminata defeated Harley Cameron (6:57)

Aminata worked the arm early on, but Cameron countered with a pop up enziguri. Aminata hit a sliding knee, then a sliding kick in the corner.

After a long commercial break, Cameron hit a sliding knee on Aminata for a near fall. Cameron sent Aminata to the floor with an axe kick. Back in the ring, Aminata hit a snap suplex and a lariat for a near fall. Cameron avoided a second sliding kick in the corner. Cameron countered an air raid crash with a cradle, but Aminata came back with a tilt-a-whirl neckbreaker, then hit the Queen’s Crown (a headbutt) for the pinfall.

After the match, Serena Deeb jumped Aminata from behind, but Britt Baker (in a “Brittsburgh” football jersey) ran in with a chair to save Aminata.

– Rene Paquette interviewed the Acclaimed, who threw out threats to the MXM Collection.

Orange Cassidy & Kyle O’Reilly defeated Big Bill & Bryan Keith (w/ Chris Jericho) (12:24)

Jericho joined the commentary team.

Lots of stalling and psychology back and forth between Bill and Cassidy. O’Reilly got in on the act, and they both avoided contact, frustrating Bill. “Too Much Man” is on Bill’s tights, and I hope that is sticking as a secondary nickname for Bill.

Keith tagged in to square off with O’Reilly. The match started to break down, with O’Reilly chasing Keith around the ring. Bill and Keith were stacked up against the ring barricade, and both O’Reilly and Cassidy mauled them with kicks going into the break.

After the break, O’Reilly went for an ankle lock, but Keith escaped and got a german suplex on O’Reilly. Bill got the tag and squashed both Cassidy and O’Reilly with avalanches. Bill hit  a spinning Boss Man Slam on Cassidy. Keith hit a knee strike on Cassidy for a near fall. Keith went for the Diamond Dust in the corner, but Cassidy escaped. Cassidy went for a spinning DDT on Bill, but needed help from O’Reilly to finish the move. Cassidy hit a spinning DDT on Keith to get a near fall.

Keith hit Cassidy with an avalanche exploder, then exchanged forearms with O’Reilly. O’Reilly got the ankle lock again, and this brought Jericho to ringside to distract referee Aubrey Edwards. Rocky Romero ran in and sent Jericho into the steps, and Big Bill cut down Romero with a big boot. Cassidy hit Bill with a tope suicida. Back in the ring O’Reilly and Cassidy hit Keith with a high/lo combination leg sweep and Orange punch, and O’Reilly got the pinfall.

AEW Dynamite live results: Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy

For the first time since September 2020, Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy will go head-to-head on tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

The two rekindled their four-year-old feud in recent weeks with Jericho continually bringing up Cassidy ruining his jacket that served as the impetus for their first set of battles. Tonight’s match will be their first against each other since Mimosa Mayhem at 2020’s All Out.

The undefeated Ricochet will be in action, taking on The Beast Mortos after last week’s post-match attack.

The Elite (Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson & Kazuchika Okada) will team up against Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher & Konosuke Takeshita. Ospreay and Fletcher will challenge the Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team titles at next week’s Dynamite Grand Slam while Takeshita has been positioned as the likely next challenger for Okada’s Continental Championship.

AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May & Serena Deeb vs. Yuka Sakazaki & Queen Aminata is also set for tonight.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Marina Shafir entering the building, while Darby Allin is shown skateboarding backstage as well.

Orange Cassidy (w/Kyle O’Reilly & Mark Briscoe) defeated Chris Jericho (w/Big Bill & Bryan Keith)

(This was probably the best Jericho match in a while, as they kept the shenanigans to a minimum, while the pin was a good callback to last week. I still don’t think they needed to base this feud on something that happened 4 years ago, but regardless, the crowd was into this and popped big for the finish.)

All six of The Conglomeration & The Learning Tree slug it out to start, as only Cassidy & Jericho remained in the ring, while others brawled outside. Cassidy took out the pile with a springboard twisting senton, Briscoe flew out with a dive, as Jericho teased a dive, but opted to wave to the crowd. Everyone not involved in the match brawled to the back, as this delay led to an Orange Punch for an early near fall. Jericho bailed to the outside to avoid another, but Cassidy met him with a dive. Cassidy hurdled the barricade and met Jericho with a leaping punch before a splash back inside got another two. Jericho countered a Cassidy hurricanrana off the ropes into the Walls of Jericho, but Cassidy cradled out. Jericho seemingly blocked a tilt a whirl DDT into a powerslam. Cassidy floated over in the corner, but Jericho sent him crashing to the floor. Jericho took the camera and filmed himself putting the boots to Cassidy before heading back inside.

Double axe handle from the top, but paint brushes only woke Cassidy up. Cassidy missed a dropkick, allowing Jericho to hit a Lionsault for two. Cassidy managed a Stundog Millionaire and Michinoku Driver, as Jericho was backdropped outside. Cassidy went for another dive, but this time, Jericho blocked it into a catapult into the railing. Both fought on top of a loading case, where Jericho hit a back suplex off through the time keepers table as things went to break.

A slugfest ensued as we returned and both men collapsed simultaneously. Thrust kick sent Jericho to the corner, as Cassidy ramped up the kicks, charged, but was met with a Jericho clothesline. Cassidy fought out from the corner and hit a diving cross body followed by a round the world DDT, but Jericho countered again into the Walls. As Cassidy got the ropes, Jericho took the ref and Big Bill flew in with a big boot, giving Jericho a two count. O’Reilly returned to fight him to the back, as Cassidy for an inside cradle for two. Jericho fired off a Death Valley Driver, but Cassidy got a desperation DDT and the round the world DDT before going up top for a third DDT variation for two. Cassidy went for the Orange Punch, but ran into a Code Breaker for a close near fall. Cassidy dodged the Judas Effect into Beach Break, but this time, Jericho kicked out. Bryan Keith ran down, but Mark Briscoe was there to fight him off. Jericho all of a sudden had a roll of change in his hand, but Cassidy knocked it free, grabbed it and hit an Orange Punch to knock out Jericho for the win.

-Footage of the BCC backstage last week was shown with PAC asking where Wheeler Yuta has been since All Out? Next week, they have a title defense, so it’s time to come to work. Claudio Castagnoli said he’s not mad, he’s just disappointed, he thought he taught Yuta better. Castagnoli told Yuta to do him this favor and show up next week to defend their titles. Moxley said he knows it’s difficult, but Yuta has his own choice, either stay or leave. Yuta has a responsibility for the greater good to look at himself in the mirror every morning. What kind of man does he want to be?

-Alex Marvez caught up with Yuta, who was about to leave the arena and thanked him for stopping, asking him his thoughts on Castagnoli & PAC demanding he show up next week. Yuta said he’s conflicted on recent events, but he’s worked his whole career to be a champion. Stage hand ran up and handed Yuta his Trios Title that he forgot in the back. Yuta said his head has been all over the place, but if those other guys want a favor, then next week he’ll kick whoever’s ass necessary. I have no idea why Yuta was leaving the arena less than 30 minutes into the show. Maybe this was supposed to be after Collision last week, but they didn’t say that.

FTW Champion HOOK defeated JD Ink

Roderick Strong joined commentary with The Kingdom, as HOOK completely ignored Strong on his way to the ring. HOOK mowed down Ink with a clothesline, an overhead suplex, Taz-plex, crossface strikes and REDRUM for the quick submission. Strong asks Taz what HOOK will do when he breaks his back next week?

-Alex Marvez is backstage and we find out Private Party will be the ones to get the Trios Title match next week following getting attacked by the BCC. Isiah Kassidy said they’ll find a partner, but said if Moxley wants to fight, look no further.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Patriarchy as Christian Cage brings up his son, Nick Wayne, will have a 4-way match on Rampage against Rocky Romero, Lio Rush & Kip Sabian. It’s a big match, as Cage decided he wants to hold double gold with Wayne after he cashes in his Casino Gauntlet contract. Cage mentions Paquette’s husband Jon Moxley might have something to say about Cage becoming the next AEW World Champion. Cage made Paquette refer to him as the next AEW World Champion, Christian Cage, before he stormed off set to Kip Sabian trying to approach and asks what he wanted with his son, Nick? He said he doesn’t care if his father’s dead, if he keeps bothering Nick, he’ll put him in the ground next to his father.

Queen Aminata & Yuka Sakazaki defeated AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May & Serena Deeb via disqualification

(This was the match that suffered due to the commercial, as they kept the interaction between Sakazaki & May to a minimum. The finish would lead one to believe we’re getting that title match, perhaps as soon as next week at Grand Slam.)

This is Sakazaki’s first Dynamite match since July of 2021, as she started things off with Deeb, trading early takedowns. Dragon screw was countered by Sakazaki, as a series of near falls led to a stalemate. Rolling snapemare into a kick led to a double team with Aminata, who fired of a snap dropkick. May was preoccupied posing for the camera with her title, as Deeb trapped Aminata’s leg and hit a dragon screw through the ropes. May made a blind tag and hit a snap dropkick of her own before knocking Sakazaki to the floor, mocking her as they went to break.

Sakazaki made a hot tag when things returned and was a house of fire, dishing out a Northern Lights Bomb on Deeb, while stacking May on top with another suplex. Stalling thrust kick to Deeb got a near fall, as everyone traded release German suplexes before Sakazaki hit a Merry-Go-Round hammerlock slam on Deeb. Sakazaki dove onto the pile outside, as she hit the Magical Girl Splash back inside, made the cover, but May blindsided her with the Women’s Title for the DQ.

Post match, May continuously whipped Sakazaki with the title, kissed her on the cheek and held her title high as she posed for the crowd.

Video package of Mina Shirakawa is shown, saying she hasn’t heard from May in months. Shirakawa said May has changed, but she still misses her. They’ve had so many good times together, they can have more, as May has a place in her heart. Shirakawa tells AEW fans to get ready, as Mina is Coming.

-We’re reminded Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness will only happen next week if Danielson is medically cleared, which commentary really stressed to fans. After some brief technical difficulties, they showed a highlight video package of McGuinness & Danielson’s wars in Ring of Honor with former ROH World Champions Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, Jay Lethal & Jerry Lynn all giving their thoughts. Strong said Nigel McGuinness has always been Nigel McGuinness’ worst enemy. McGuinness himself says he’s the best wrestler in the world, not Bryan Danielson.

Jon Moxley Sends Another Message

Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Marina Shafir make their way to the ring from the crowd, but Private Party try to attack before they get there. This didn’t go well, as Shafir choked out Kassidy, while Castagnoli hit a brutal chokebreakers on Quen. Moxley sent Kassidy into the steps before Shafir put the boots to him. Moxley held Kassidy as Shafir fired off kicks. Komander appeared in the ring, tried a dive, but was hit with a Castagnoli uppercut in mid-air. Shafir slammed Alex Abrahantes, took the microphone from his hand, as Komander was launched into the second row by Castagnoli. Moxley had a toolbox and brought a hammer over to Kassidy, saying he could end Private Party’s careers after pulling what they just did. They’ve been here since the beginning, but are in the same spot they were five years ago. Moxley is going to give them what they’ve been missing, some friction, an obstacle to overcome, consider this a gift. Moxley smashed Kassidy’s hand with a hammer and got the proper “You Sick F” chants. Needless to say, I don’t think Private Party & Komander will be getting that Trios Title match they wanted next week.

Darby Allin sprinted out and wiped-out Castagnoli with a skateboard before Moxley threw him in the ring, they had a stare down, but Moxley didn’t strike. Shafir held Castagnoli back, as Allin swung the skateboard, but Moxley bailed. Allin asks when Moxley will realize he’s not the same guy he was five years ago? He’s going to run through Moxley and go on to become AEW World Champion in his home state come WrestleDream. Moxley laughs and retreats with his crew.

-A video package of Jack Perry driving the Scapegoat bus is shown, along with his recent TNT Title defenses over the past week.

Ricochet defeated The Beast Mortos

(Another strong win for Ricochet, who is building his resume to presumably get to Will Ospreay. Aside from the one moment with the dive outside, which they recovered quickly, I thought this was a really fun match, as Mortos again looked good, even in defeat.)

Fast start from Ricochet, who backed Mortos to the corner, only for Mortos to charge with an attack of his own. Ricochet dodged a few more, as Mortos was sent outside, where Ricochet took flight with a dive. Springboard lariat back inside, followed by a running Shooting Star Press, as Ricochet fired off kicks, but both men traded flashy arm drags and hurricanranas. Both dodged sweep attempts and had a stalemate with the crowd cheering loudly. Thrust kick sent Mortos to the floor, as Ricochet tried a somersault dive, but Mortos caught and planted Ricochet with an apron bomb heading to commercial.

It was all Mortos during break, as Ricochet started mounting his comeback with a Tiger Feint Kick in the corner. Handspring was caught by Mortos, who hit a massive pop-up Samoan Drop for two. Ricochet battled back with a rewind kick, but Mortos was there with a brutal headbutt. Mortos tried a monkey flip, but Ricochet sent him to the floor. They tried the somersault dive spot again, but Mortos missed catching Ricochet, so he just hoisted him up for a powerbomb, only for Ricochet to turn it into a float over Code Red. Springboard 450 hit back inside for a near fall, as Ricochet went up top, was cut off, with Mortos joining him, hitting an Avalanche Gorilla Press for two. Tilt-a-whirl into the spinning backbreaker attempt was countered by a Ricochet snap crucifix slam, as that was followed by an axe kick and Vertigo for the win.

-A video package of Hangman Adam Page was shown, about how he had to do what he did because of Swerve Strickland. Justice delayed is justice denied, he will have what he wants. We’ll hear from Page coming up next.

**********

-Footage from Collision last week was shown between FTR & Grizzled Young Veterans with The Outrunners making the save after GYV made the post-match attack. We’re told FTR, The Outrunners & HOOK will face Roderick Strong, Grizzled Young Veterans, Rush & Beast Mortos this Saturday.

Hangman Adam Page Explains His Actions

Tony Schiavone welcomes Hangman Adam Page to the ring, as Page is officially walking out of the heel tunnel now. Schiavone brings up Page mentioning last week that he would take out anyone who ever defended Swerve Strickland or had his back. Page said he’s watched and listened for a long while that this moment would come that Strickland would be gone. Page knew it wouldn’t just be Strickland who would have to pay, but those who protected him from Page, who is surrounded by them now, as the crowd chanted Swerve’s House. These people who cheered for Strickland after every AEW World Title defense and while he was inside a cage before facing his fate. While Page was home for 4 months suspended, he remembers a loud voice, from the commentary desk. Schiavone tried to mention Jeff Jarrett and Page said Jarrett’s not who he means and backs Schiavone into the corner.

Jarrett’s music hits and he runs out from the back, as Page pounces immediately. He sends Jarrett back and forth over the barricade before going back in the ring, looking for a Buckshot, but referees and security have to separate both men. Jay Lethal & Satnam Singh are out to hold Jarrett back, as Page stares him down from the stage. Jarrett grabs a microphone and said he’d be dammed if he allows Page to put a finger on Tony Schiavone. An entire dressing room wants to beat the hell out of Page and Jarrett is at the front of the line. He promises Page he’ll kick his ass if it’s the last thing he does in his career.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Ricochet, as they’re immediately interrupted by Will Ospreay who walks in, saying there’s always heat between them, but apologizes for last week. Ricochet accepts, but says he’s doing what Ospreay said, he’s getting his wins up. Everyone is coming after Ricochet more than he’s worried about them. They’re more worried about Ricochet than Ospreay, which isn’t the case for Ricochet, who said he got his match via Tony Khan, October 2nd, the 5-year anniversary of Dynamite, he gets his International Title match against Ospreay, who might be on another level, but Ricochet is out of this world. Ricochet said he’ll see him real soon, little bro.

Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher & Konosuke Takeshita (w/Don Callis) defeated The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Matthew & Nicholas Jackson)

(An action-packed main event that showcased everyone involved and teased some potential matches down the line. This was Fletcher’s biggest win in AEW to date and it makes sense to have he & Ospreay look strong prior to their title match next week. I’m glad they aren’t rushing to Takeshita & Okada, as they should build that longer, perhaps WrestleDream. The tension between Ospreay & Takeshita will certainly lead to something as well. The finish being a shout-out to Aussie Open leads me to believe Mark Davis should be expected back possibly soon.)

Excalibur last week said Takeshita had the best G1 Climax debut ever this year, but corrected himself this week, as Okada won the G1 in his first year. Fletcher & Nicholas start off fast, with Ospreay quickly in for a double team wishbone and PK before Nicholas bails and tags Okada. Crowd starts getting amped for the Ospreay & Okada face-off, as Takeshita wanted the tag, but Ospreay turned him down. Pump fake attack in the ropes from Okada, who hit a shoulder tackle, but Ospreay kipped up and dusted it off. Snap hurricanrana from Ospraey, who backed Okada to his corner, where Takeshita slapped him hard in the back for a tag. The Elite attack during the argument and we get a triple slingshot senton into a pose on the floor. That delay led to a triple baseball slide and slingshot cross body. Takeshita snarled at Ospreay as things went to commercial.

Back from break, Ospreay fought free of The Elite corner, as Fletcher made the hot tag and ran wild. Snap Dragons on The Bucks, as Fletcher hit running corner kicks and brainbuster on Matthew for two. After a double down, Okada tagged in and cut off Takeshita from making a tag, as Fletcher ate uppercuts before answering with a Michinoku Driver. Takeshita shoved Ospreay’s hand away so he could tag in and get his hands on Okada, who he took out with a Takeshita-line and deadlift brainbuster. Diving senton off the middle gets two, as Okada flipped out of a Blue Thunder Bomb into a DDT, as The Bucks took out Fletcher & Ospreay. Takeshita fought off all three, as some miscommunication from The Elite, led to Takeshita hit a sitout fireman’s carry-on Okada, followed by running sliding double dropkick for two. Superkick Party from The Bucks, but Takeshita no sold and turned them inside out with a double clothesline, only to turn into a dropkick from Okada into the reset. Okada baited Takeshita into the corner and hit an Air Raid Crash neckbreaker for two, as they go to commercial again.

Takeshita remained isolated, as The Bucks hit Risky Business followed by an Okada top rope elbow. Triple flip off for the crowd by The Elite, as Okada politely folded the middle finger back. EVP Trigger avoided by Takeshita, as The Bucks were hit with a double German suplex before reluctantly tagging Ospreay. Pip, Pip, Cheerio took out Matthew, as a handspring Pele Kick wiped out both Bucks. Standing Sky Twister Press gets a near fall, but Okada avoided Oscutter into a Superkick Party. Hung up over the top, Nicholas hit a double stomp, which flung Ospreay up into a Matthew sit-out powerbomb. The Bucks pump up their shoes, as Ospreay tried a wall walk, but was met with another Superkick Party for two. EVP Trigger was cut off by Fletcher, who sent Matthew in for an assisted sit-out spinebuster from Ospreay for two. Fletcher made the official tag, wanted a Tombstone, but Nicholas hit a rising knee strike. Sliced Bread was countered into a sit-out double team Cutter, but Okada was in with a flapjack and dropkick on Takeshita. Rainmaker countered into a Blue Thunder Bomb, as Takeshita hit a somersault dive outside.

Back inside, slingshot facebuster from Nicholas, who hit a moonsault on Takeshita before The Bucks wanted a TK Driver. Fletcher wiggled out and hit a twisting Tombstone on Matthew for two, as Nicholas made the save. Fletcher caught a superkick, as Ospreay flew in with Hidden Blade before Ospreay & Fletcher hit the Coriolis with Fletcher getting the pin. The United Empire tron played, as Callis applauded his men, while Ospreay offered a handshake to Takeshita, who paintbrushed Ospreay with Callis stepping between them.

Team AEW wins Blood & Guts match on Dynamite

After harassing the roster and management for months, The Elite finally got theirs during Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, losing to Team AEW in the annual Blood & Guts double steel cage match.

The end came when Jack Perry was handcuffed to the cage and Darby Allin doused him with gasoline. He threatened to light Perry on fire unless he granted him a TNT title match at All In to which Perry spit at him in response. The handcuffed Matt Jackson then began pleading with Allin not to do it and eventually agreed to the match on Perry’s behalf.

Allin then insisted Jackson say “I quit” to end the match for his team which he also agreed to in order to save Perry.

The five-on-five match saw Matt & Nick Jackson, Kazuchika Okada, Perry and Hangman Page take on AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Allin, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster.

As expected the match featured plenty of violence, weapons and notable spots including Bowens falling through tables from halfway up the cage on the outside of the ring, Bowens using scissors on Perry to open him up, Allin’s thumbtack-laden skateboard, a barbed wire board, staple guns, Allin delivering a coffin drop to Perry while hanging from the inside of the cage, and more.

The match was the fourth-ever Blood & Guts bout in company history.

Mark Briscoe named as first member of Team AEW for Blood & Guts match

Image: AEW

While The Elite’s team has yet to be fully rounded out for the impending Blood & Guts match this month, Team AEW is finally starting to form as Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe has pledged his allegiance against The Elite.

Briscoe revealed his inclusion on Wednesday’s Dynamite during a passionate in-ring promo, getting jumped by new TNT champion and Elite member Jack Perry afterward. Kyle O’Reilly came to Briscoe’s aid only to then get jumped by Elite member Kazuchika Okada. The Young Bucks then came out to put the odds further in their favor until The Acclaimed ran everyone off.

While Briscoe’s involvement is now confirmed, The Elite are still looking to recruit a final team member as Hangman Page turned the Bucks down Wednesday in a backstage segment following his return to action in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

It will be Briscoe’s first Blood & Guts match while it will be the second-such contest for Nick & Matt Jackson who participated in last year’s match in Boston. It will also be the first Blood & Guts match for both AEW Continental Champion Okada and Perry.

The double cage buffet of in-ring violence will take place on the Wednesday, July 24th Dynamite from Nashville, Tennessee.

The Elite vs. The Acclaimed & Hiroshi Tanahashi added to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Two new matches have been added to Forbidden Door.

Hiroshi Tanahashi will team with The Acclaimed to take on The Elite (The Young Bucks & Kazuchika Okada). After The Elite challenged The Acclaimed to a trios match, Billy Gunn said while he’d like to team up with The Acclaimed, he happened to know a president. That is when Tanahashi appeared on the video screen and announced he’d team with Max Caster & Anthony Bowens this Sunday.

This would be the first time Okada and Tanahashi have faced off since Okada’s departure from NJPW earlier this year.

Willow Nightingale and Tam Nakano will team up on Sunday, taking on Kris Statlander and Momo Watanabe. In a video, Statlander challenged Nightingale to a warm up match ahead of their Owen Hart Foundation tournament bout on next Wednesday’s Dynamite. The match was later confirmed for Forbidden Door’s Zero Hour pre-show.

It was also announced on Dynamite that Bryan Keith will not be wrestling at Forbidden Door after suffering an injury. Jericho attempted to recruit Minoru Suzuki into being part of his trios team, but Suzuki rejected the offer and instead challenged Jericho to an FTW title match. It was explained on social media that the trios match between The Learning Tree and Hook, Katsuyori Shibata, and Samoa Joe at Forbidden Door is still on, but Jericho needs to find a new partner.

Here is the updated lineup for Forbidden Door:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Will Ospreay
  • Ladder match for the vacant TNT Championship: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Jack Perry vs. Lio Rush vs. Dante Martin vs. TBA
  • Title for title: TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer
  • AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Mina Shirakawa
  • IWGP World Heavyweight title: Jon Moxley defends against Tetsuya Naito
  • Owen Hart Foundation men’s quarterfinal match: Bryan Danielson vs. Shingo Takagi
  • MJF vs. Hechicero
  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Orange Cassidy
  • The Elite (Kazuchika Okada & The Young Bucks) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & The Acclaimed
  • The Learning Tree (Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and TBA) vs. Samoa Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata
  • Zero Hour: Kris Statlander & Momo Watanabe vs. Willow Nightingale & Tam Nakano

The Elite issues challenge for Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite

Blood and Guts is returning next month.

AEW Dynamite on Wednesday opened up with The Elite interrupting Swerve Strickland., who was in the ring cutting a promo. They issued a challenge to the AEW locker room to take them on in a Blood and Guts match. Matthew Jackson told Swerve that they needed a fifth man and were willing to put their differences aside if he would join them.  Swerve rejected the offer, which led to a brawl. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn ran down for the save.

Tony Schiavone later announced on the show that Blood and Guts would take place on the July 25 edition of Dynamite in Nashville, Tennessee at the Bridgestone Arena.

The Elite have been on a roll since their reformation earlier this year, winning the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing in May. The Elite have also boasted about putting people like Eddie Kingston and FTR out of action, with Kingston and Dax Harwood both off the road with injuries.

Kenny Omega announces Anarchy in the Arena match for AEW Double or Nothing

During Dynamite, Kenny Omega appeared in a hospital room, recovering from last week’s attack by The Elite. He made a match that would see The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, and Kazuchika Okada compete in an Anarchy in the Arena match, naming FTR as the first two participants. Later in the night, it was revealed that Eddie Kingston and Bryan Danielson would round out the team. The show ended with both teams having to be separated by security.

Following the events of last month’s Dynasty, The Elite have been looking to consolidate their power by attacking Tony Khan, causing him to recuperate at home. On last week’s Dynamite, they attacked Kenny Omega, who is still recovering from diverticulitis. Kingston and Okada also have a history with one another, as it was Okada who defeated Kingston to win the Continental title at Dynasty.

Danielson had been away from television in recent weeks, selling a Tiger Driver 91 that he took at Dynasty from Will Ospreay. He will return to action this Saturday on Collision.

Here is the updated lineup for Double or Nothing:

  • AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland defends against Christian Cage
  • International title: Roderick Strong defends against Will Ospreay
  • AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Serena Deeb
  • TBS title: Willow Nightingale defends against Mercedes Mone
  • Anarchy in the Arena: The Elite (Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, and Jack Perry) vs. FTR, Bryan Danielson, and Eddie Kingston

AEW’s Tony Khan doesn’t think it would be a ‘smart move’ to wrestle

Tony Khan isn’t stepping inside a wrestling ring anytime soon.

On Cincy 360, Khan rejected the idea of wrestling a match following his on-camera angle last month with The Elite. Khan took a spike piledriver from the Young Bucks and as a result, is now running the show remotely in storyline while recovering from his neck injury, allowing The Young Bucks to run AEW by themselves on the road.

“AEW is where the best wrestle, and we mean that…in this case, I’m not the best person to pay those people back,” he said. “There’s a lot of things I’m good at behind the scenes but somebody else is gonna have to avenge what those guys did not only to me but to Kenny Omega…I’m quite sure there are more capable wrestlers than I am that can inflict some of that punishment on The Young Bucks and Jack Perry and Okada, The Elite.”

“After what happened to me last time, I don’t think I’d be making a smart move trying that,” he added.

On last week’s AEW Dynamite, the show ended with The Elite taking out Kenny Omega, attacking his midsection after Omega announced he was still battling diverticulitis. Omega is set to appear on this week’s Dynamite to make an ‘important announcement’.
