Tony Khan says there were ‘several’ changes to AEW Dynasty card

The AEW Dynasty match card was altered after Kyle Fletcher’s injury and Toni Storm’s abrupt absence.

During AEW Dynasty Post Show Media Scrum, Tony Khan discussed the last-minute changes to the card. He compared it to adjustments made for Forbidden Door 2022 which subsequently occurred after Double or nothing that year. For Dynasty, Khan confirmed Fletcher and Storm were definite names to be involved before their injuries.

“Now, many of the matches were the same, but there were several changes to the card. There are people out that 100% would have been involved. One great example would be the former TNT champion Kyle Fletcher, who was out injured that happened a few weeks ago, who 100% I would have had involved in AEW Dynasty. Also, ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm and I made many changes to this pay-per-view over the last few weeks. They would have both been a big part of it. They’re both a huge part of AEW, and anytime I can have Kyle Fletcher, The Protostar, or ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm involved in an AEW event, it’s very important. So coming out of Revolution, I expected them to each be in matches on the show. So there’s more, and there’s other changes. Then, when you make changes like that, it leads to other changes. But I’m very proud. I think that we became uniquely conditioned during the pandemic period to make changes to a pro wrestling show.”

On the March 18 edition of Dynamite, Storm was scheduled to face Marina Shafir in a No Holds Barred Match. However, before the show, Storm was found laid out in a pool of blood backstage forcing Mina Shirakawa to take her place. There is no reported reason for her sudden absence and she is expected to be out of in-ring action for an undisclosed time period.

Nearly ten days later, Fletcher suffered a meniscus injury in his tag team match with Mark Davis against The Rascalz. He had to vacate his AEW TNT Championship for which a 10-man Casino Gauntlet Match transpired at Dynasty. Kevin Knight won the bout marking his first singles title win in the promotion.

WOL: WWE SmackDown underdelivers on the way to WrestleMania

It’s the Sunday Wrestling Observer Live with Andrew Zarian.

This past Friday’s WWE SmackDown might have been one of the more disappointing shows on the road to WrestleMania so far. He discussed the show and the disappointing parts outside the main event, built around Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton, which has been good, but there’s too much repetition throughout the rest of the show.

He also previewed this week’s WWE Raw which takes place at Madison Square Garden, and discussed whether they are doing too much of the same thing when it comes to the build to the main event between Roman Reigns and CM Punk.

Saturday’s AEW Collision saw a great main event between Kevin Knight and Kazuchika Okada in which Knight had a great showing despite the loss.

Also, the whodunnit storyline continues as AEW was forced to pivot after Toni Storm’s surprise absence. Is this leading to a Mina Shirakawa title run in the future?

Plus, WrestleMania ticket sales, the Intercontinental title in AAA, and American Gladiators’ names revealed.

Toni Storm’s AEW hiatus impacted major storyline

On the Dynamite after AEW Revolution, Toni Storm was booked for a No Holds Barred match against Marina Shafir. However, Storm was discovered unconscious backstage in her dressing room by Mina Shirakawa who stepped up and attacked Shafir.

Following the program we reported that Storm’s hiatus was not due to an injury and the real reason remains unknown. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter reveals more details on the last minute plans that ultimately impacted a potential feud with AEW Women’s Champion Thekla.

Meltzer wrote:

“Toni Storm has been reported as being out of action until 2027. There are a number of stories floating around but it is obviously something that they want to keep under wraps. It is not an injury situation and it came up on 3/18 the day of the show as all plans until the afternoon were for Storm to beat Marina Shafir to lead to the start of a Thekla vs. Toni Storm program for the title. When they found out she could not wrestle, they laid out the injury angle and will be doing a tease akin to Who Shot JR? with clues and such and multiple potential assailants.”

“Storm did an injury angle on television and did an autograph signing over the weekend not selling any injury at all.”

Additionally it appears like Tony Khan refrained to share details about Storm’s reason for indefinite absence, as well as his status as a candidate to buy WWE in 2023.

“I was told outright before even asking about the subject that the two subjects Tony Khan will not talk about are Toni Storm and the story about his company putting in a bid to purchase WWE in 2023,” Meltzer wrote.

Skye Blue says she ‘would love to step up’ during Toni Storm’s AEW absence

AEW’s Skye Blue is willing to prove what it takes to follow in Toni Storm’s footsteps.

Speaking with Soundsphere, Blue addressed the opportunity to cement her spot in the top of AEW’s women’s division in Storm’s absence.

“I definitely would love to step up,” she says. “I’ve wrestled Toni so many times, I absolutely love wrestling that woman. I feel like since she came to AEW, I’ve learned so much from her. Just being able to pick her brain about wrestling – every time I get in the ring with her, I feel like I’ve learned something about wrestling, so there are big shoes to fill. But I think all three of us are ready to step up and show that we are dominant players in the women’s division and we’re ready to push forward and show them.”

Blue also discussed her contrasting personalities when it comes to having a quiet, calm demeanor backstage as opposed to walking out and showcasing in-ring brutality.

“There’s always the little anxieties in the back of your head. You look out and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God, there’s so many people’, but these are people who came to see you do what you love and what you do best. You have to turn off the little narrator in your head and just do it, and you gotta push yourself outside your comfort zone to be the best.”

Storm defeated Marina Shafir at Revolution last weekend despite Ronda Rousey’s interference. Following the pay-per-view there were reports citing Storm taking time off from AEW TV in the next few months, probably for the most of 2026.

Blue debuted in AEW in 2021 and has not shied away from hardcore, brutal stipulation matches. With Julia Hart by her side, her ambition to win the AEW Tag Team Titles remains on her agenda. Thekla’s addition to the Triangle of Madness the women’s division is on high alert. made them a formidable stable in AEW.

Toni Storm’s extended absence not due to an injury

Toni Storm’s sudden departure from AEW storylines last Wednesday was not due to an injury, according to our Dave Meltzer.

As was previously reported by our Bryan Alvarez, the former AEW Women’s World Champion is expected to be out of action for “a long time” but it’s remains unclear as to why. After last Sunday’s Revolution, she was set to rematch Marina Shafir in Fresno, California, this past Wednesday but was pulled at the last minute as she was not cleared to wrestle.

On Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said what Storm is dealing with is “not an injury or anything like that” and that AEW found out whatever they found out on Wednesday after being under the impression as late as Wednesday morning that they were proceeding as planned.

“On Wednesday, she is there. She is set up to wrestle in this match and they had to do this emergency angle to take her out and put Mina Shirakawa in,” Meltzer said.

Shirakawa took Storm’s place against Shafir in the previously announced no holds barred match and picked up an upset win. She will now challenge reigning champion Thekla on this Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Fightful Select reported this past week that AEW is prepared for Storm “to not be cleared to wrestle through 2026 at a minimum.”

In a clip that aired on social media just prior to Dynamite and then during the broadcast, Storm was shown laid out in a pool of blood with Shirakawa and Luther attending to her. Fightful also noted AEW has plans for the mystery attacker storyline as there were various “Easter eggs” in the room Storm was laid out in.

He also talks about Toni Storm being off TV indefinitely, what pivot AEW will make, and whether it will lead to Mercedes Mone coming back as a babyface.

Toni Storm out of action for ‘a long time’ | Exclusive

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm will be out of action for “a long time” due to an undisclosed injury or injuries.

That news comes from our Bryan Alvarez who added that is the reason Mina Shirakawa filled in for Storm and then defeated Marina Shafir on last night’s AEW Dynamite.

Storm last wrestled at this past Sunday’s Revolution, defeating Shafir in a hard-hitting match that was followed by Ronda Rousey making a surprise appearance to confront Storm. Storm was then hit by Shafir as Storm and Rousey were being separated.

Prior to Dynamite, AEW released a clip of Storm being found bloodied up in her locker room with Shirakawa and Luther attending to her. She was set to face Shafir in a no holds barred match on last night’s show but was deemed unable to compete and Shirakawa took the spot instead.

The extent of the injuries and/or timeline for her return is unknown as is whether Shirakawa is being slotted into whatever creative was planned for Storm in the near future.

Toni Storm pulled from advertised AEW Dynamite match

AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm was set to take on rival Marina Shafir in a no holds barred match on Wednesday’s Dynamite but was ruled out.

In a clip shared to X ten minutes before the show started, Storm was shown laid out in her locker room in a pool of blood with Mina Shirakawa tending to her and Luther freaking out as Renee Paquette ran up to the scene.

Then it was announced at the onset of the broadcast that Storm wasnot cleared after her match with Shafir at this past Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view, but the backstage attack wasn’t referenced until much later in the show.

As of this writing, it’s unknown what injury or injuries that Storm is working through and how long she could be out of action.

Shirakawa was announced as taking the match against Shafir Wednesday instead, later defeating her with the Storm Zero piledriver.

People in WWE ‘shocked’ to see Ronda Rousey at AEW Revolution

Ronda Rousey shocked the world when she recently appeared on AEW Revolution and confronted Toni Storm.

Shortly after the match, our Bryan Alvarez reported that although only a few people in Rousey’s former promotion, WWE, knew about her PPV appearance, most within WWE were “shocked” to see Rousey show up at AEW Revolution.

Rousey appeared following Storm’s victory over Marina Shafir. The two women proceeded to have a confrontation in the ring before security swarmed in. Rousey, who was heavily booed, left the ring with Shafir through the crowd.

Rousey is also set to make her MMA return in May 2026 against Gina Carano under Jake Paul’s MVP, which will be aired on Netflix. Rousey left WWE in 2023 and wrestled a few times on the indies and ROH, where she teamed up with Shafir. Her last match dates back to November 2023.

No holds barred match set for AEW Dynamite

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm and Marina Shafir will run it back this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite in a no holds barred match.

Storm and Shafir did battle on Sunday’s AEW Revolution in a match where everyone was banned from ringside. Storm picked up the victory, but got a surprise afterward when former UFC and WWE titleholder Ronda Rousey appeared to call Storm out, leading to a pull apart confrontation.

Rousey was not announced as joining Shafir this Wednesday and it’s unclear what her role with AEW could be moving forward. She is currently preparing for her return to MMA in May.

It will be their fourth-ever singles match with Storm remaining a perfect 3-0 thus far.

As of now, the match is the only one announced for the Revolution fallout edition of Dynamite.

Ronda Rousey makes surprise appearance at AEW Revolution

As her return to MMA looms, former UFC and WWE star Ronda Rousey made her return to the world of wrestling in a surprise appearance at Sunday’s AEW Revolution.

Rousey appeared following Toni Storm’s victory over Marina Shafir, getting into the ring and pointing toward Storm who was lying in the entranceway. She then re-entered the ring and the two began exchanging words before a slew of security ran into the ring to separate them.

Rousey, who was booed, then took off with Shafir through the crowd.

Rousey’s return to MMA takes place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles against Gina Carano on Saturday, May 16 on Netflix. The crossover star hasn’t been shy at taking shots at TKO leadership for how they manage UFC after initially trying to bring the fight back to the Octagon.

The 39-year-old hasn’t wrestled since November 2023 when she teamed with Shafir against Athena and Billie Starkz at a post-AEW TV Ring of Honor taping in Inglewood, California — part of three matches Shafir and Rousey had in October and November.

She famously had two runs in WWE from April 2018 through April 2019 and January 2022 through August 2023. She’s a former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion in addition to a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm on AEW star’s radar of dream opponents

AEW Women’s Champion Thekla named Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm as two wrestlers she would like to face in the future during a recent interview with The Sportster.

Along with mentioning former rival Mina Shirakawa as someone she admires, Thekla said Mone and Storm are two “dream opponents” she hopes to share the ring with someday.

“Mercedes [Moné] is obviously somebody who probably thinks of herself as some icon or idol here. I have a lot to say about that. Toni Storm, being the Timeless One. She’s built a platform for herself that is so far away from everything that we’re doing. It’s almost been untouchable for a long time and [she] has held [the AEW Women’s Championship] more times than I can count on this hand. She’s one of the big ones in our company, and I’d love to see who’s got it in the end,” stated Thekla.

The champion also spoke about winning the AEW Women’s Championship less than a year into her run with the promotion.

“In German, we say, ‘Wissen ist Macht’. It means wisdom is power. If you get that inside knowledge, that’s how I [was able to win the AEW Women’s Championship] in eight months.”

Thekla also spoke about her Triangle of Madness teammates Julia Hart and Skye Blue.

“I see a lot of myself in them, and I see a lot of talent they have that I try to incorporate into what I’m doing. I also hope that I can give them a little bit of inspiration or knowledge about how to make it and navigate yourself in this business.”

Thekla arrived in AEW in May of last year after nearly four years with World Wonder Ring Stardom.
