Jack Perry tears up AEW contract in NJPW debut

Jack Perry made his first appearance since All In at Saturday’s NJPW Battle in the Valley, tearing up his AEW contract in his company debut.

Perry jumped the rail following the main card opener at Battle in the Valley, attacking NJPW’s Shota Umino. Perry then tore up an AEW contract in the ring, and put an armband reading “scapegoat” on.

After a backstage altercation with CM Punk at AEW All In in London in August, Perry was suspended indefinitely by AEW. His current AEW status is unknown.

There was speculation that AEW’s The Devil could eventually be unmasked as Perry as a way to reintroduce him into company storylines, but Adam Cole was revealed as The Devil at Worlds End last month.

In December, Perry filed for several trademarks including for his “Jungle Boy” moniker, “Jurassic Express” — the team name he used with Luchasaurus, as well as “A Boy and His Dinosaur,” another name for his team with Luchasaurus.

While Saturday marked Perry’s NJPW debut, he did wrestle once on a joint AEW-NJPW event, as he challenged SANADA for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at last June’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

Video of Perry tearing up the AEW contract is embedded below.

Jack Perry files for ‘Jurassic Express,’ ‘A Boy and His Dinosaur’ trademarks

Jack Perry has filed for more trademarks relating to his previous Jungle Boy gimmick.

On December 5, Perry applied to trademark “Jungle Boy.” He followed that up on December 11 by filing trademarks for “Jurassic Express” and “A Boy and His Dinosaur.” Jurassic Express was the name of an AEW faction with Perry & Luchasaurus. Marko Stunt was also a member at one point and Christian Cage was their mentor for a period of time.

A Boy and His Dinosaur was the name of Perry & Luchasaurus’ tag team dating back to their time on the indies.

The trademarks were filed through Perry’s Boy Myth Legend, Inc. Patent attorney Michael Dockins worked with Perry on the filings.

The trademarks are listed as being for:

Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes

Perry has been away from AEW programming since his backstage incident with CM Punk at All In this August. Perry was suspended from AEW indefinitely following the incident. Punk, who has since returned to WWE, was terminated from AEW with cause.

At All In, Perry lost the FTW Championship to Hook.

Perry is one of the names that fans have speculated could be revealed as the Devil character who has targeted MJF in AEW, but AEW hasn’t disclosed who is behind the Devil mask.

Jack Perry files to trademark ‘Jungle Boy’

Jack Perry has filed to trademark his previous ring name.

According to documents available on the US Patent and Trademark Office website, Perry filed to trademark the names “Jungle Boy” and Jack Perry for wrestling purposes on December 5, 2023.

The filings were made through attorney Michael E Dockins on behalf of Boy Myth Legend, Inc.

Perry has yet to return to AEW following a backstage incident at All In that resulted in his indefinite suspension. Bryan Alvarez recently noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he believes Perry’s suspension has been lifted and AEW is simply waiting for the right time to bring him back.

The purposes of both trademarks are listed as, “Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes.”

AEW media scrum notes: Tony Khan on Sonny Kiss, Jack Perry, All Out business

Below are notes from the post-AEW All Out media scrum.

**********

Adam Cole —

  • Cole said that he’s having the most fun he’s had in 15 years in wrestling in his pairing with MJF. He notes that the two were just “thrown together” and neither thought it would click as well as it has.
  • Cole said that he & MJF are open to facing any tag team on the AEW or ROH roster in defending the Ring of Honor Tag Team titles.

Christian Cage —

  • Cage spoke entirely in character.
  • Cage said that Khan had recently re-signed him to a “fat” contract.
  • Cage said that he collects things of great value including watches, and wrestling titles.
  • Cage said that he had added so much prestige to the TNT Championship that he thinks it might soon be called the TNT World Championship.
  • When asked about the possibility of his friend Adam Copeland joining AEW, Cage said that he has no friends besides Luchasaurus.

Kris Statlander —

  • When asked about Mercedes Mone, Statlander said that she would welcome the challenge. She also mentioned a rematch with Jade Cargill, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Saraya, and Willow Nightingale as potential future opponents.
  • Statlander said that she appreciates everyone’s concern for her health after returning from two knee injuries, but that she wouldn’t have come back if she wasn’t capable of doing everything in the ring she could before the injuries. She noted that she hasn’t modified her style since returning.
  • Statlander put over Orange Cassidy as her best friend and noted that the Best Friends group with herself, Cassidy, Trent Beretta & Chuck Taylor are legitimately best friends who travel together and hang out together.

Bryan Danielson —

  • Danielson said Ricky Starks carried him through their match at All Out. He said he thought that Starks was good in the ring before, but that the two had never touched prior to their match and that Starks is every bit as good as he thought he was. He praised Starks for using his promo on Saturday’s Collision to elevate Big Bill.
  • Danielson said it was very hard to argue against Jon Moxley being the best wrestler in the world after stepping up with another great performance at All Out.
  • Danielson noted that the Blackpool Combat Club can straddle the line between being good guys and bad guys depending on what the particular story they are involved in calls for.
  • Danielson said that he was cleared not only by AEW’s medical staff but by an outside surgeon (implied that the surgeon who performed surgery to repair the broken arm he suffered at Forbidden Door) to return for his match with Starks.
  • In light of people being concerned for his health, Danielson said he would pull back the curtain and noted that there were lots of smoke and mirrors in the match with Starks to protect Danielson’s arm, mentioning that he never threw a strike with his right arm.
  • In speaking about Tony Khan calling him out as being a point person to help run AEW should anything happen to Tony, Danielson said that balancing work and his personal life is something he strives for and that he spends a lot of time thinking about. He said that he would want to help AEW out.
  • Khan noted that Danielson working Collision on Saturdays would probably be good for that work/life balance.
  • Khan said that Danielson traveled with him for a few weeks and could not keep up with Khan’s schedule and recommended that Khan hire Jimmy Jacobs to travel with him and help keep him organized.

Tony Khan —

  • Asked about Sonny Kiss, Khan confirmed that he had not renewed Kiss’ contract. He put Kiss over as a great wrestler and a person that he likes a lot, but that he can’t keep everyone under contract. He did not rule out Kiss returning at some point, pointing to Stu Grayson as an example of someone who left the company and came back.
  • Khan said that he found out Saturday that Billie Starkz was not cleared to compete and that forced him to change some booking for All Out: Zero Hour, but that he wanted to showcase Athena on the card.
  • Regarding the business of All Out, Khan said that preliminary numbers indicate 100,000-plus pay-per-view buys and somewhere in the range of 10,000 tickets sold for a gate north of $800,000.
  • Khan said that CJ Perry had not signed any type of long-term deal, but didn’t rule out the possibility of signing her depending on how the story with Miro plays out.
  • Khan said that Jack Perry is suspended indefinitely following the backstage incident with CM Punk.
  • Khan thanked Punk for his contributions to AEW as a wrestler, and would not comment when asked if there would be a non-compete period following Punk’s termination, noting that he was not a lawyer who would interpret the language of a separation agreement.
  • When asked about running WrestleDream on a Sunday against the NFL, Khan said that he would like to avoid running against the NFL if at all possible and called it the most powerful media entity in the world. He said that he felt strongly that WrestleDream this year needed to take place on October 1 to honor the first anniversary of Antonio Inoki’s passing.
  • Khan said that All Out will likely be held at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois next year due to an event held at the United Center [I believe he was referring to the Democratic National Convention, but that is taking place a week prior to what would be All Out weekend].

The full scrum can be seen below:

Jungle Boy segment announced for AEW Dynamite

Following his heel turn at Forbidden Door, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry is set to appear on Dynamite.

AEW has announced that we’ll hear from Perry on Dynamite this Wednesday. Perry turned heel when he attacked his former tag team partner Hook at Forbidden Door.

Perry was unsuccessful in his attempt to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from SANADA at Sunday’s pay-per-view. After the loss, Perry and Hook headed back up the ramp. Hook raised Perry’s arm in the air, but Perry then shockingly dropped Hook with a lariat.

When Renee Young tried to interview him about the turn, Perry refused to comment. Perry said Young could tune in on Wednesday like everyone else.

Wednesday’s Dynamite is taking place at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Here’s what’s been announced for the episode:

  • The fallout from Forbidden Door
  • Tornado tag team match: Sting & Darby Allin vs. “The Painmaker” Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
  • Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament first-round match: Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho
  • We’ll hear from “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

Jungle Boy turns against Hook at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Jungle Boy laid out Hook following his loss at Forbidden Door.

After he lost the IWGP World Heavyweight title match against champion SANADA, Jungle Boy was being helped to the back by Hook, who had been cornering him. As they made their way to the stage, Hook raised Jungle Boy’s hand as a sign of respect. However, Jungle Boy responded by giving Hook a lariat, sending him to the floor. After mocking the fans, he started to make his exit but not before grabbing Hook’s FTW Championship and throwing at Hook, who was still on the floor.

Hook’s father Taz, who did commentary for the match, left the announce team after the angle and was replaced by Tony Schiavone.

In the weeks following Double or Nothing, Jungle Boy rekindled his tag team with Hook. The two defeated Dralistico and Preston Vance in a Texas Tornado tag team match on the June 7 edition of Dynamite. Jungle Boy later said that he still wanted to be a champion by the end of the year, and accepted SANADA’s open challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight title at Forbidden Door.

IWGP World Heavyweight title match announced for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

SANADA and Jungle Boy are squaring off at Forbidden Door.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion appeared via video on Wednesday’s Dynamite. He said at Forbidden Door he planned to show the world the strength of an IWGP champion and will do that by issuing an open challenge for June 25 in Toronto. Later in the show, Jungle Boy was interviewed and said he accepted SANADA’s open challenge, saying his goal this year is to still become a champion.

SANADA has been the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion since April 8 at Sakura Genesis, when he defeated Kazuchika Okada. His most recent title defense took place at Dominion, when he successfully defended the title against Yota Tsuji. Jungle Boy, meanwhile, was one of three challengers for MJF’s AEW World title at Double or Nothing last month but ultimately failed to win the title.

Here is the updated lineup for Forbidden Door:

  • IWGP World Heavyweight title: SANADA defends against Jungle Boy
  • AEW World Championship: MJF defends against Hiroshi Tanahashi
  • IWGP United States Championship: Kenny Omega defends against Will Ospreay
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Bryan Danielson

Don Callis promo, Rush vs. Jungle Boy set for AEW Dynamite

After the shocking events of this past Wednesday, Don Callis will appear on AEW Dynamite to give his rationale for why he turned on Kenny Omega.

At the conclusion of Omega’s cage match with Jon Moxley, Callis entered the ring and delivered a shot to Omega’s head with a screwdriver, leading to Moxley getting the win.

As the four-way for the AEW World title at Double or Nothing draws near, two of the challengers will be in competition.

In one match, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will take on Rush for the first time ever. Perry has won eight of his last nine while this is Rush’s first singles match in AEW since a February loss to Bryan Danielson.

Sammy Guevara has also been announced for the show as being in action, but his opponent was not announced. Guevara and AEW World Champion MJF were unsuccessful in defeating Perry and Darby Allin this past Wednesday which made the four-way official.

Here’s the current lineup for Wednesday’s show in Austin, Texas:

  • Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong in a falls count anywhere match with JAS & Adam Cole banned from the building
  • The Outcasts (Saraya, Toni Storm & Ruby Soho) vs. Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter & Hikaru Shida
  • Ricky Starks vs. Jay White
  • Jack Perry vs. Rush
  • Don Callis promo
  • Sammy Guevara vs. TBA
  • Follow-up on Wednesday’s “huge” AEW announcement

Four Pillars tournament to decide MJF’s opponent for AEW Double or Nothing

A three-man tournament will decide MJF’s next opponent for the AEW World Championship.

Dynamite on Wednesday opened with Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Allin trading words with one another about becoming the next AEW World Champion. This eventually led to MJF coming out and saying that he had a talk with Tony Khan. He said a tournament would determine his opponent for Double or Nothing.

The tournament will begin on Wednesday’s Dynamite with Jungle Boy facing Guevara in the main event. The winner of that match will then advance to next week’s show where they will face Allin, who received a bye after MJF drew his name out of a hat. The winner of the match next week then will face MJF at Double or Nothing on May 28.

In the weeks following Revolution Jungle Boy, Guevara, and Allin all made claims to being the next in line to challenge MJF. Jungle Boy attacked MJF earlier this month on Dynamite by disguising himself as part of a band MJF hired to play during an MJF Day celebration.

AEW Rampage live results: Aussie Open vs. Best Friends title match

Friday’s AEW Rampage will kickoff at approximately 9:30 PM Eastern or after the NBA playoffs coverage concludes on TNT.

In a featured match, IWGP Tag Team Champions Aussie Open will defend their titles against Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) as they look to join Orange Cassidy as a champion.

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will try to keep pace with the other “four pillars” in pursuit of AEW World Champion MJF as he faces the returning Shawn Spears.

AEW Tag Team Champions FTR will have some things to say in an in-ring promo. The show will also feature promos from Jeff & Matt Hardy and Angelo Parker, Matt Menard & Jake Hager.

Taya Valkyrie will hope to remain undefeated in her AEW career as she faces Emi Sakura.

The new and unorthodox foursome of Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett and Satnam Singh will be in eight-man tag team action

Taped in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone on commentary. The show started shortly after 9:40pm EST after the end of the Heat/Bulls game.

Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) defeated Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) to retain the IWGP Tag Team Championship (9:24)

This was great opener.

Excalibur plugged the next title defense for whoever wins this match in New Japan, then ran down the history of the titles. Chuck Taylor hit both members of Aussie Open with a tope con hilo. In the ring, Beretta caught Fletcher with a high crossbody off the top for a near fall.

Aussie Open took the fight to the floor, where they dropped both of the Best Friends on the ring open back first. Then Aussie Open each grabbed one of their opponents and ran around the ringside area (in opposite directions) to collide on the other side of the ring. Back in the ring, Aussie Open punished Beretta with a delayed vertical suplex.

After a split-screen break, Fletcher caught Beretta with a cutter off the middle rope for a near fall. Taylor and Davis brawled around ringside, where Taylor sent Davis into the ring steps. Back in the ring, Fletcher nearly fought out of a superplex attempt, but Taylor gave Beretta the assist (in a variation of the stacker suplex spot). After that, the Best Friends had to give the people what they want!

Beretta came off the top with a knee strike on Fletcher (while he was on Taylor’s shoulders) for a near fall. Fletcher caught Taylor with a spinning tombstone pilerdriver, and Davis yanked Beretta up by his legs and into a standard piledriver. Aussie Open finished Taylor off with the Coriolis and got the win. Great stuff.

– Sonjay Dutt tried assuage Mark Briscoe’s concerns with his new teammates, but this isn’t what Briscoe signed up for. They tried to give Briscoe a new shirt with the faces of the team on it, but Mark’s face was all the way off in the corner. Briscoe did not look happy.

– Tony Schiavone interviewed FTR in the ring. Cash Wheeler announced they were resigned with AEW for four more years. After those four years, they’re done with wrestling. Yeah, okay. Wheeler wants FTR to be known as the greatest tag team of all time. Dax Harwood still hasn’t figured out why the crowd likes them. He decided it must be because the fans like their redemption story.

– Lexi Nair interviewed The Hardys, Hook and Isiah Kassidy. Jeff was somewhat humble about facing his demons and his path back to AEW. Matt announced that this team will take on The Firm at the Hardy Compound in what will be the Firm’s Deletion.

Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett & Satnam Singh defeated Manscout Jake Manning, Angelico, Luther & Serpentico (2:00)

Collectively, Angelico, Luther, and Serpentico are known as the Spanish Announce Project.

The heels jumped the Manscout’s team before the bell, even though Briscoe wanted to fight these guys fairly. And Jarrett continued to liberally cheat while Briscoe tried to face the Manning straight up. This match fell apart quickly. Singh dumped Serpentico onto the other members of the Spanish Announce Project, then gave Manning a chokeslam. Briscoe dropped the Froggy Bow for the pinfall. Briscoe left, disgusted with his partners.

– Recap of the feud between the Blackpool Combat Club and the Elite.

Taya Valkyrie defeated Emi Sakura

Valkyrie is undefeated and Sakrua’s only recent loss is to the Women’s World Champion, Jamie Hayter. Valkyrie got a near fall after a knee strike in the corner. Sakura tried to suplex Valkyrie, but she blocked it.  Valkyire hit a clotheline for a near fall. Valkyrie tried for the Road to Valhalla, but Sakura blocked the move. Jade Cargill and Leila Grey came out to watch the match. This distraction allowed Sakura to get the advantage as the show headed to commercial.

During the break, Cargill and Grey ventured down to the ringside area. Sakura sent Valkyrie into the steel stairs, then tossed her back into the ring for a near fall. Valkyrie came back with a blue thunder bomb and a spear. Valkyrie dropped Sakura with the Road to Valhalla and got the pinfall.

After the match, Grey and Cargill ran in to attack Valkyire. Grey fell victim to the Road to Valhalla. Cargill and Valkyrie exchanged forearms, but Grey recovered enough to cheapshot Valkyrie, and Cargill dropped her with the Jaded Slam.

Everytime Cargill is on TV, she comes across as a star.

– Jose the Assistant challenged El Hijo de Vikingo on behalf of Dralístico for Vikingo’s AAA Mega championship. This match was made official for next Saturday’s Rampage.

– In the ring, Jericho Appreciation Society members Matt Menard, Angelo Parker and Jake Hager cut an awful rap on the Acclaimed. Jake Hager still loves his hat. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn ran out to attack. The Acclaimed held open Matt Menard for Billy Gunn to cut off his nipples (with actual scissors!), but Parker and Hager made the save. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn challenged Hager, Menard and Parker for Dynamite Wednesday. This match was made official later in the show.

New for Dynamite Wednesday: Jay White v. Kommander (in Jay’s first match as a full-time member of the AEW roster) and a confrontation between Adam Cole & Chris Jericho.

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry defeated Shawn Spears (8:59)

In the pre-match promo, Mark Henry attempted to give this match a storyline by suggesting Spears was still a heavy for MJF. But, Spears shot that down. Spears is no longer an ally of MJF and wants to be the champion. Spears actually cut a very good promo laying out his intentions.

It seemed like Spears was trying to bring back the “Perfect 10” stuff from his NXT/WWE days. Both men teased dives to the floor early on. While Spears and Perry brawled around the ringside area, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara were both shown watching the match in the back.

After a break, Perry fought out of a superplex attempt and caught Spears with a crossbody for a near fall. Spears hit a pump kick, but Perry came back with a pair of supericks. Perry hit his rebound lariat. Spears sent Perry over the top to the apron, but Perry caught him with an enziguri. Perry tried to spring back into the ring, but Spears caught him and drove him down with a draping DDT for a near fall. Spears went for the C4, but Perry countered and hit a leaping flatliner for a near fall. Spears came back with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Spears went for the La Magistral cradle, but Perry shifted his weight and held Spears down for the three count.

After the match, Perry and Spears shook hands in a show of respect. Now Perry, Guevara and Alli are all 2-0 since they all stated their intention to take MJF’s AEW World title.

Final Thoughts:

This crazy idea of giving all the other pillars a bunch of wins in advance of a title match with MJF just might work.

Jungle Boy segment announced for AEW Rampage

Jungle Boy Jack Perry will be on Rampage this week.

AEW announced on Thursday that “we’ll hear” from him on Friday’s show.

Jungle Boy is coming off a victory over Christian Cage in a Final Burial match at AEW Revolution on Sunday.

Earlier this year, the 25-year-old stated his goal is to win a singles title in AEW.

Jungle Boy is undefeated in 2023 with a singles record of 4-0. His wins have come over Christian, Ethan Page, Brian Cage, and Ryan Nemeth. His tag team with Hook, JungleHook, is also 2-0 this year.

Jungle Boy hasn’t lost a singles match since being defeated by Luchasaurus on the October 10, 2022, edition of Dynamite.

AEW Rampage this week was filmed on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. The advertised lineup is below.

Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage ‘Final Burial’ match set for AEW Revolution

A ‘Final Burial’ match between Jungle Boy Jack Perry and Christian Cage has been made official for Revolution.

Friday’s Rampage had Jungle Boy, who appeared in a cemetery, issue a response to Christian Cage’s promo on Dynamite, where he ran down both Jungle Boy and his father. Perry told Cage that since he was such a big fan of his dad, he’ll give Cage the chance to say hi to him when he puts Cage in the ground. The match was then confirmed for this Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, AEW announced on social media that the match was to be a no holds barred match. That stipulation has since been changed to a ‘Final Burial’ match, with no explanation as to what the stipulation is.

Last month, Christian Cage made his return to the company after being out of action due to a triceps injury, attacking Perry. On the February 25 edition of Dynamite, Cage assaulted Perry yet again, getting the better of him and beating Perry’s head with a steel chair.

Here is the updated lineup for Sunday’s Revolution event in San Francisco:

Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage official for AEW Revolution

Another match is official for AEW Revolution.

On Dynamite this Wednesday, Christian Cage challenged Jungle Boy to a no-holds barred match for Sunday’s pay-per-view. During an in-ring promo, Cage said that Jungle Boy’s dream of winning a singles title in AEW will happen over his “dead body.” This was followed by a video from Jungle Boy that featured him digging a grave with Cage’s name on the headstone while images of their rivalry were interspersed within.

AEW has since made the match official in an Instagram post published on Thursday.

This will be the second time Jungle Boy and Cage have faced each other in singles competition. Cage defeated Jungle Boy in just 24 seconds in their first match at All Out 2022.

Sunday will be Jungle Boy’s fourth singles match on an AEW pay-per-view. He lost to MJF at Double or Nothing 2020, was defeated by Cage at All Out 2022, and picked up a victory over Luchasaurus in a cage match at Full Gear in November.

Revolution will be Christian Cage’s third singles match on an AEW pay-per-view. He was defeated by Kenny Omega in an AEW World Championship match at All Out 2021 and picked up a quick win over Jungle Boy at All Out 2022.
