Big Vinny V: Krampus debuts on the strangest TNA Impact of the year

2025 has been a very strange year in the world of professional wrestling and last Thursday’s Thanksgiving episode of TNA Impact may have been the strangest show yet.

  • There was the debut of Krampus, the mythological Alpine spirit who punishes naughty children at Christmastime.
  • There were not one, not two, but three matches built around Ryan Nemeth wrestling in a turkey suit.
  • Andm in perhaps the weirdest single televised segment of the year, there was a Joe Hendry-Jeff Hardy concert in its entirety.

All this plus a Trick Williams & Mustafa Ali vs. Mike Santana & Leon Slater tag match; Lei Ying Lee cutting the most emotional promo you’ll see pretty much anywhere; a replay of a TNA food fight from two decades ago featuring stars from a decade before that; and a wacky eight-man tag with nothing at stake.

We’ll try to make sense of it all on the Big Vinny V Show!

Report: Another TNA wrestler’s contract expiring at the end of the year

Another TNA contract may be up soon.

Fightful Select reported on Friday that Jake Something’s contract is due to expire at the end of the year. He originally signed in the summer a few years ago, and according to the report, his contract was thought to be expiring in June of 2026. Fightful stated they do not currently know if talks have started between the two sides.

The news comes as a number of contracts are set to expire at the end of the year. Zachary Wentz of the Rascalz, AJ Francis, and Steve Maclin are also among those whose contracts are coming due. Former TNA Champion Joe Hendry has officially left TNA and has since signed with WWE.

Something, 36, started with TNA in 2019 as the cousin of Cody Deaner. When Deaner turned heel and joined the Violent by Design stable, Jake changed his name to Jake Something. He briefly left TNA but returned in 2023 and has been part of the promotion since. After suffering a bicep injury earlier this year, he made his return to TNA in June.

BVV: TNA tries to reboot Mike Santana

Image: TNA Wrestling

It’s a new Big Vinny V Show recapping the last week of TNA Wrestling.

Mike Santana’s TNA World Championship reign ended before it had a chance to really begin, and now TNA is trying to rebuild their hero.

Santana opened last week’s episode of Impact with an emotional, vulnerable promo talking about all he had been through, in life and in wrestling, and where he goes from here.

Meanwhile, TNA named new challengers for Frankie Kazarian’s World title, Leon Slater’s X-Division title, and the Hardys’ Tag Team titles at Final Resolution, and took a step toward naming a challenger for Kelani Jordan’s Knockouts title as well.

Plus, Santino responded to the NXT invasion by shrugging his shoulders and booking a bunch of matches for future shows.

NXT vs. TNA storyline continues at Turning Point

The battle between NXT and TNA appears to be far from over.

After tonight’s main event that saw Mike Santana pin Frankie Kazarian in their tag team match, Nic Nemeth attempted to cash in his Call Your Shot Gauntlet trophy. Before he could, however, a NXT group consisting of Stacks, Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King, Brooks Jensen, High Ryze, and Mr. Stone came out and attacked all three men as well as Santana’s tag team partner Steve Maclin. Sinner & Saint of TNA attempted to help, as well as The Hardy Boyz, but the numbers game proved to be too much. Santino Marella attempted to restore order, but Mr. Stone ordered he be taken out as well. The closing moments of Turning Point saw the NXT wrestlers stand tall.

The angle started on Thursday during a live episode of Impact when the same group of NXT wrestlers interfered in the main event that ultimately led to Santana losing the TNA Championship to Kazarian. During Turning Point, Marella confronted Ava backstage about the situation. The NXT GM said that she had no involvement with what happened on Impact and would provide additional security so it wouldn’t happen again. Shawn Michaels on social media said he was “looking into it.”

Back at Showdown last month, the two promotions held two Survivor Series elimination matches. NXT won the women’s match, but team TNA won the men’s, with Santana and Moose emerging as the winners after Trick Williams walked out on Ricky Saints. Santana would go on to beat Williams later that month to win the TNA World Championship.

BVV: TNA Open Fight Night review with Mike Santana vs. Cedric Alexander

Image: TNA Wrestling

Just like the Big Vinny V Show, TNA Impact is back…kind of.

Nearly a month after their biggest show of the year, Total Nonstop Action finally aired a TV show comprised mainly of wrestling matches last Thursday” most of which were taped in September with one from March and one, for no particular reason, from 13 years ago.

Never change, TNA.

Our fresh matches are born from TNA’s Open Fight Night concept where anyone can fight anyone with nothing actually on the line. That gave us a four-way tag between The System, Sinner & Saint, The Rascalz and the Great Hands; Dani Luna vs. old tag team partner Jodi Threat; and “TNA Champion” (wink, wink) Mike Santana showing his versatility against Cedric Alexander.

Elsewhere, we had The Hardys against The Colons in a months-old El Paso street fight that already aired on Impact, and then Bobby Roode defended the TNA World Championship against AJ Styles in 2012 in a match that was almost too good, because it made most all modern wrestling pale in comparison.

Plus, a sit-down interview with Knockouts Champion Kelani Jordan and the By Elegance brand begins the search for Mr. Elegance.

Velvet Sky reflects on Dixie Carter’s infamous TNA speech from 2009: ‘Vile’

Velvet Sky recalls Dixie Carter’s infamous speech from 2009 that left fans confused and talent irritated.

When footage of the speech surfaced online, Velvet Sky—who was just inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame last month—spoke out very negatively about Carter’s speech, and about Carter herself.

“I remember this day,” Sky wrote. “The consensus of the locker room and staff during this ‘meeting’ was not one single person gave a s*** what she was saying and we actually had to take time out of production day for this nonsense from her and it had to be filmed so she could have her ‘my way or the highway’ ego stroked even more. She was not well received by most because of the way she treated people who could do nothing for her and the way she would talk down to people. Vile.”

One of Sky’s followers said it was stupid to do this segment “as a work.” Sky’s response: “None of what she said was a work.”

In November of 2009, Total Nonstop Action had publicly announced the signing of former WWF and WCW world champion Hulk Hogan, but he had not yet appeared nor been directly mentioned on their television show. It was a turbulent time in TNA, with several wrestlers reportedly requesting their releases in the weeks leading up to the Hogan signing.

In that environment, Dixie Carter—who had rarely been seen on TNA television up to that point—opened Impact by laying down the law to her entire roster, who sat glumly in the stands as she spoke.

“Nobody likes drastic change. Nobody likes big moves. I understand that. And it affects different people different ways. And while I respect that those of you out there that might have differing opinions of the decisions that I’m making, I expect you to support me 100%. When you question things in this company, you’re questioning me. And I cannot allow that to happen,” she said at one point.

“Business is about choices,” she continued further. “I’ve made the choice to put my finances, my reputation, my passion, my love behind each and every one of you and this company. And it’s time for you to do the same thing. You have a choice to make. You can choose to support me, you can choose to support the direction TNA is going, or you can choose not to. But you’ll need to find another place to work.”

“This was hardly a rah-rah speech,” Bryan Alvarez wrote at the time. “Essentially, she told the world that a lot of people thought she was crazy for bringing in Hulk Hogan, a lot of people were second-guessing her, she didn’t like it, and if they weren’t happy they needed to find work elsewhere.”

Dixie Carter started running TNA when her parents, the owners of Panda Energy, purchased the company in 2002. She was in charge of TNA for 14 years before the promotion was sold to Anthem Entertainment in 2017. Her last on-camera appearance was in 2016, in a segement with EC3, Eric Young, and Matt Hardy.

Velvet Sky started with TNA in 2007 and was a regular part of the promotion through 2016, making sporadic appearances since then. She is a two-time Knockouts champion and a former Knockouts tag team champion.

BVV: TNA Impact recap with Nemeths vs. Hardys tag title match

Tuesday means a new Big Vinny V Show and another TNA Impact recap.

The main event last Thursday saw Nic & Ryan Nemeth getting their TNA Tag Team title rematch against the Hardy Boys with Matt Cardona making a cameo appearance.

Elsewhere, Brian Myers battled Mustafa Ali as things heated up between The System and Order 4; Judas Icarus stealing the show in a very fun match against Eric Young; Victoria Crawford continuing to be crazy; the IInspiration teaming with Masha Slamovich against the By Elegance brand; Frankie Kazarian hosting the King’s Speech with the return of Mr. Anderson; Dani Luna squaring off against Indi Hartwell; Lei Ying Lee and Xia Brookside formally annoucing their tag team name; and Mike Santana destroying a jobber but then gets destroyed by an invader from NXT.

BVV: TNA Impact featured the best piledriver in years

It’s time for a new Big Vinny V with a look back at last week’s TNA Impact.

The highlight wasn’t a match or a return or a promo. Rather, it was Eric Young piledriving Travis Williams during an angle that spelled the apparent end of the Northern Armory — one of the best executions of that move you’ll ever see.

The other one hour and 59 minutes were split between several masters, trying to build interest for the next episode, Victory Road in three weeks, and Bound For Glory in October.

To that end, we got Moose vs. AJ Francis; Joe Hendry not doing an advertised match with Eric Young; a Victoria Crawford segment that was even nuttier than you’d expect; an excellent four-way match featuring all three Rascalz and Jake Something; The Elegance Brand against the IInspiration in a pair of singles matches; and the Nemeth Brothers vs. The System.

Big Vinny V: Live edition of Impact with Bound For Glory build

With their biggest show of the year only a month away, TNA has some work to do. So the live episode of Impact this week was dedicated to announcing and building matches for the big show.

That means we only got three matches—Matt Cardona vs. Frankie Kazarian, Jodi Threat vs. Dani Luna vs. Indi Hartwell, and the Hardys & Mara Sade vs. the Great Hands & Tasha Steelz—but those matches all got plenty of time in between all the promos, angles, and returns. We’ll get into it on the Big Vinny V Show!

TNA announces Hardys-Dudleys ‘Final Negotiation’

Before their match at Bound for Glory, The Hardys and Dudley Boyz will interact on an upcoming episode of TNA Impact.

TNA Wrestling has announced that Matt & Jeff Hardy and Bully Ray & D-Von will all be in attendance at the company’s TV taping in Minneapolis this Friday night. They’ll take part in a “Final Negotiation” segment to build up their TNA Tag Team title match at Bound for Glory.

Bound for Glory will be the last time The Hardys and Dudleys — legendary rivals dating back to the Attitude Era — ever face each other. The match was set up when Bully Ray confronted The Hardys after their TNA Tag Team title victory this July at Slammiversary.

D-Von Dudley has mostly been away from the ring since 2016. He suffered a stroke in 2020 and underwent spinal surgery in 2022 but had a few matches from 2023-2024. Ahead of returning for this final match, D-Von is feeling good physically after dropping a significant amount of weight.

Bound for Glory is taking place on October 12 in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Minneapolis is hosting a live TNA Impact episode this Thursday and then TV tapings the next night. The live episode will include a six-person tag match with The Hardys & Mara Sade facing John Skyler, Jason Hotch & Tasha Steelz.

Big Vinny V: Best Impact in weeks, G1 Climax highlights

For the first time in a long time, TNA Impact felt like a pro wrestling show and not a TV show about pro wrestling.

That was most true in the excellent Mustafa Ali vs. Joe Hendry main event, but there was also a fun tag match pitting Heather & M by Elegance against Lei Ying Lee & Xia Brookside, and a good promo segment setting up major changes in Fir$t Cla$$. Oh, and they did a fine job building and promoting the big matches for the Emergence app special on Friday, August 15.

We’ll cover all of that, then review two more big matches from New Japan’s G1 Climax: Yuya Uemura vs. Ryohei Oiwa and David Finlay vs. Yota Tsuji. Come join the fun on the Big Vinny V Show!

BVV: Reviewing Shingo vs. Takeshita, TNA Impact

Image: NJPW

Come join the fun on the latest Big Vinny V Show with Vince Verhei.

TNA Impact was the latest American TV wrestling show that had very little wrestling, so we also go back to Japan for the latest highlight from this summer’s NJPW G1 tournament.

But first, TNA must deal with the fallout from Slammiversary which means everyone is going to talk a lot—everyone, that is, except Joe Hendry and Mike Santana, the losers of the Slammiversary main event, who closed out Impact with a one-on-one match with no explanation of what the PPV loss means to them, or why they are fighting.

But, we did have Santino Marella and Masha Slamovich laying out a rematch against new Knockouts Champion Jacy Jayne; The System, suddenly babyfaces now, vowing to fight for TNA; Moose declaring his intentions to challenge Trick Williams for the TNA World title; Order 4 just hating everyone; Victoria Crawford starting some sort of issue with Dani Luna and Indi Hartwell; Leon Slater, the Hardys, and Steve Maclin talking about how great they are for a while; and Jayne talking about how great she is.

Oh, there were, like, three other matches, including the Major Edge Guys reuniting.

Then, it’s off to Tokyo where Shingo Takagi battled Konosuke Takeshita in a match that had more wrestling by itself than a full hour of Impact (or SmackDown, for that matter).

BVV: TNA Impact review with build for Slammiversary

Just ten days out from their biggest show of the summer, TNA Impact was focused on building the big matches from Slammiversary. That focus included a Mike Santana video package, a Joe Hendry sitdown interview, and Trick Williams doing commentary for the main event, where he once again stole the show.

Elsewhere, the Elegance Brand face Harley Hudson & Myla Grace; the plot surrounding Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, and Order 4 thickens; Masha Slamovich teams with Lei Ying Lee to face Jacy Jayne & Fallon Henley from NXT; Steve Maclin defends the International title against Mance Warner and Jake Something in a three-way match; Victoria Crawford battles Indi Hartwell in the worst match I’ve seen in months; and the Nemeth Brothers team with Fir$t Cla$$ against the Hardys and the Rascalz in the main event.

We’ll discuss all on the latest Big Vinny V Show!
