What TNA booking might say about Leon Slater’s future

Leon Slater tied the record for the longest X Division Championship reign in TNA history but he did not break it. What does that tell us about Slater’s prospects?

After 298 days as champion, Slater lost the title to Cedric Alexander in a two-out-of-three falls match on the live episode of Impact that aired on May 14. Had he retained, he would have broken the record. Instead, he is now tied with Austin Aries, who won the title from Brian Kendrick in September of 2011 and then surrendered it the following July for a TNA World Championship match. (Aries would go on to defeat Bobby Roode for the World title at Destination X.)

The booking decision to put Alexander over Slater was not without its critics. Apparently, Slater’s contractual status played a role in that decision.

Our own Dave Meltzer explained TNA’s mindset in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter.

“A lot of people were mad about them not letting [Slater] break the record, but the belief is Slater is gone to WWE or AEW when his contract is up,” Meltzer wrote.

That shouldn’t surprise anyone. Slater has wrestled in NXT several times. He was in the Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline last December, and he challenged Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil in January. He also challenged Carmelo Hayes for the WWE United States Championship on SmackDown, also in January.

TNA originally announced the signing of Slater in October of 2023, when Slater was only 19 years old. Presumably, then, his current contract will expire in October of this year.

TNA makes championship announcement for Slammiversary

TNA Slammiversary is set to take place on June 28 at Agganis Arena,Boston.

TNA announced via social media that all championships will be on the line at Slammiversary.

“BREAKING: ALL Championships will be defended at #TNASlammiversary on June 28 LIVE on PPV and TNA+ from the Agganis Arena in Boston.”

The promotion has begun building the match card for the PPV. Last week, TNA confirmed that the Ultimate X match would take place at the pay-per-view. Cedric Alexander will put his newly won X-Division Championship on the line. On the May 14 edition of TNA IMPACT, Alexander ended Leon Slater’s 298-day reign.

With this announcement, TNA World Champion Mike Santana, TNA International Champion Mustafa Ali, TNA World Tag Team Champions The System, TNA Knockouts World Championship Léi Yǐng Lee and TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship The Elegance Brand will be featured on the card.

This is the 22nd year of the TNA PPV. The event collides with AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on the same day. However, the differing start times avoid a direct clash, allowing wrestling fans the opportunity to follow both major events through the weekend.

BVV: AAA treads water, TNA sinks

TNA and AAA both put out TV shows this week, and one of those promotions managed to avoid shooting themselves in the dick.

Impact was a good example of everything right and wrong with TNA: a talented roster and good wrestling, but some mind-boggling booking and a crippling phobia of creating new stars.

So we’ll get into Cedric Alexander’s defeat of Leon Slater, why it was even worse in execution than it sounds on paper, and what possible thought process might have been going through their heads. Also, why Mike Santana’s top rival as world champion is apparently the dreaded heel authority figure.

To be fair, we will also explain why Alexander vs. Slater was a certified banger of a match, but it wasn’t even the best thing on the show. That honor goes to AJ Francis vs. KC Navarro in a street fight.

As for AAA, well, the build for Noche de los Grandes peaked two weeks ago, and now we’re all just twiddling our thumbs waiting for May 30.

We’ll lay it all out on the Big Vinny V Show!

New TNA X-Division Champion crowned

Cedric Alexander is the brand new TNA X-Division Champion.

In the main event of the May 14 episode of TNA Impact, fans saw Cedric Alexander defeat Leon Slater in a 2-out-of-3 falls match. Alexander pinned Slater to crown himself the new X-Division Champion.

Following a closely contested battle and a scoreline of 1-1, Alexander evaded Slater’s Swanton 450 and countered it with multiple Lumbarchecks to pick up the X-Division title.

Slater was previously set to become the longest reigning X-Division champion on May 15, 2026. However, his plans were put to a halt as Alexander beat him to take home the title.

Alexander is a member of The System in TNA. While Alexander now holds the X Division Championship, Brian Myers and Bear Bronson of The System hold the TNA World Tag Team Championship.

Slater held the X-Division Title since July 2025, when he won the title from Moose at the Slammiversary PPV. Now, just one day before reaching the historic feat, Slater lost it to the former WWE wrestler.

BVV: Fun multi-man matches highlighted last week’s TNA & AAA action

This week’s Big Vinny V Show is bit of a diversion as we take a partial break from TNA Impact.

We’ll stop there first to watch the opener which was an eight-man pitting Mike Santana, Leon Slater, Trey Miguel & Moose against members of Order 4 and the System. It’s a good reminder of how good TNA can be at its best, but then there’s a reminder of how bad it can be at its worst.

Then we head south of the border to AAA where the theme of the night was international trios match – first Japan vs. Puerto Rico, then the United Kingdom vs. the European Union.

Oh, and Flammer defends the Reina de Reinas championship in about as much time as it took you to read this blurb.

Cedric Alexander says he had the opportunity to go to AEW, but wanted to ‘do my own thing’

In an interview with Busted Open Radio on Thursday, Cedric Alexander claimed he had the opportunity to sign with AEW but declined due to wanting to do his own thing.

Alexander was talking about Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley and MVP signing with AEW and forming The Hurt Syndicate in late-2024. He had feelings about that union, saying that while he was happy for the three to “finish their story the way they want to” he couldn’t help but think about his own situation.

“I helped make that group what it was (in WWE) but at the same time, too, when I had the opportunity to go to AEW, I was looking at it in a sense of…well, for them, they’re finishing their careers with The Hurt Business. I still got another 10…15 years to go,” he said.

He didn’t say when he was offered a contract.

“I kind of want to do my own thing and just be my own man for a while and not be linked to ‘All he did was Hurt Business stuff. Cedric Alexander because of the Hurt Business.’ Like, nah, no, I was a self-made man before I came to WWE in the (Cruiserweight Classic), so I would like to be able to say, ‘This was my choice and something I did for me.'”

In March 2025, Alexander did an interview where he said he “100%” wanted to reunite with the group. He didn’t say what changed.

The 36-year-old has been in TNA since June 2025, re-signing in January 2026. He is currently part of the new-look System faction.

TNA faction adds new members, kicks out others

The final moments of Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, episode of TNA Impact witnessed a brand new change for The System.

Last week, JDC retired from in-ring competition at TNA Genesis against Eddie Edwards in a losing contest. During this Thursday’s episode, JDC announced Bear Bronson as his replacement in The System. However, things soon took a turn.

Bronson, Brian Myers, and Edwards joined forces to take down Moose and JDC as a stunned Alisha Edwards stood in the corner. The new trio of The System continued their attack on JDC and Moose as they kicked out the two veteran wrestlers.

However, fans then saw the arrival of Cedric Alexander with a steel chair. As the crowd expected him to side with Moose, he instead turned heel and dropped the former World Champion with a chair shot. Edwards later confirmed that Moose was now out of The System.

With JDC and Moose now former System members, the current faction includes Eddie and Alisha Edwards, Myers, Bronson, and Alexander, with the final two being new additions.

Cedric Alexander re-signs contract with TNA Wrestling

Ahead of his challenge for the X-Division title this Saturday at TNA Genesis, a new report out Monday has Cedric Alexander signing a new contract with the company.

Fightful Select reported the news, but did not have any details on contract length or other terms. His deal was originally up around last October’s Bound for Glory, but he’s wrestled for TNA eight times since then, most recently in early-December. That was his last match anywhere.

The 36-year-old made his way to TNA in June 2025, nearly six months after his multi-year WWE run came to an end. He’s been active on the indies as well, competing frequently for Deadlock Pro and House of Glory along with a few others.

If he is to win the X-Division title Saturday, it will be his first title anywhere since 2021. He is a former WWE Cruiserweight, 24/7 and Raw Tag Team Champion.

Along with Moose, Alexander awaits the winner of this Thursday’s Leon Slater vs. Myron Reed title match at the debut of Thursday Night Impact on AMC.

BVV: TNA Open Fight Night review with Mike Santana vs. Cedric Alexander

Just like the Big Vinny V Show, TNA Impact is back…kind of.

Nearly a month after their biggest show of the year, Total Nonstop Action finally aired a TV show comprised mainly of wrestling matches last Thursday” most of which were taped in September with one from March and one, for no particular reason, from 13 years ago.

Never change, TNA.

Our fresh matches are born from TNA’s Open Fight Night concept where anyone can fight anyone with nothing actually on the line. That gave us a four-way tag between The System, Sinner & Saint, The Rascalz and the Great Hands; Dani Luna vs. old tag team partner Jodi Threat; and “TNA Champion” (wink, wink) Mike Santana showing his versatility against Cedric Alexander.

Elsewhere, we had The Hardys against The Colons in a months-old El Paso street fight that already aired on Impact, and then Bobby Roode defended the TNA World Championship against AJ Styles in 2012 in a match that was almost too good, because it made most all modern wrestling pale in comparison.

Plus, a sit-down interview with Knockouts Champion Kelani Jordan and the By Elegance brand begins the search for Mr. Elegance.

Update on Cedric Alexander’s TNA contract status

Image: TNA

Cedric Alexander’s TNA Wrestling contract is set to be up imminently, according to a new report.

Fightful Select reported the news Saturday, noting that according to TNA sources, Alexander has been under a short-term deal that is “up around the time of Bound for Glory” which is set for next Sunday. The outlet also reported that TNA is hoping to re-sign Alexander.

The roster could undergo some churn as Fightful reported there are some other deals up around the same time frame, but TNA is working to renew those talents in those situations.

Alexander made his TNA debut on the June 20 Impact TV taping, confronting Mustafa Ali. He’s wrestled eight times for the promotion and will be in action this Thursday for the Bound for Glory go-home show. As of this writing, he has not been announced for a match at the pay-per-view.

Alexander’s run in WWE ended this February and in March, he said he would love to join The Hurt Syndicate in AEW.

Mustafa Ali addresses scary TNA Slammiversary dive: ‘No one to blame but me’

Mustafa Ali is taking the blame for his rough landing at TNA Slammiversary last night.

During his match against Cedric Alexander at Sunday’s pay-per-view, there was a scary moment where Ali flew through the middle ropes for a dive to the outside. He hit the top of Alexander and almost flew over him entirely before taking a scary head-first landing onto the floor. A group of Ali’s Secret Service members were there but did not catch him. That has drawn criticism from fans, but Ali says no one is at fault but himself.

“Appreciate everyone’s concern. Unfortunately, I have to pull the curtain back here because the talent ringside was absolutely not responsible for that scary fall in any way and they are getting all the blame.” Ali tweeted this morning. “They did exactly what they were instructed to do. I tried to do a variation of a dive and simply slipped off my opponent. No one to blame but me.”

Ali was able to finish the match and get the victory over Alexander. And despite how scary the spot looked, Ali says he’s “all good.”

“I am all good,” he wrote. See ya on #TNAiMPACT”

After being released by WWE in 2023, Ali debuted for TNA in 2024 and is signed to a contract with the promotion. He plays a heel politician character, leading a faction called Order 4 with Jason Hotch, John Skyler & Tasha Steelz.

TNA’s next event following Slammiversary is a live episode of Impact in Kingston, Rhode Island this Thursday. The promotion will also hold TV tapings there on Friday.

TNA Impact live results: The Hardys in action, Cedric Alexander’s in-ring debut

With more than a week to go before TNA Slammiversary, tensions are high leading into tonight’s edition of TNA Impact.

Former TNA Tag Team Champions The Hardys and The Rascalz will unite against current champions The Nemeth Brothers and First Class with TNA World Champion Trick Williams on commentary.

Former champion Joe Hendry will also be on the show to share some thoughts.

TNA Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich will team with Lei Ying Lee against NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jane and Fallon Henley.

Cedric Alexander makes his TNA in-ring debut, teaming with The Good Hands against Mustafa Ali’s “Secret Service.”

The TNA International Championship will be on the line as Steve Maclin defends against Jake Something and Mance Warner in a three-way.

In a non-title match, Knockouts Tag Team Champions The Elegance Brand faces newcomers Myla Grace and Hayley Hudson while Indi Hartwell vs. Victoria Crawford rounds out the show.

**********

The “Cross the Line” theme and accompanying intro video airs to get things started after the usual recap package showing key moments from last week’s show.

The Elegance Brand (Ash & Heather By Elegance) vs. Harley Hudson & Myla Grace

Inside the Impact Zone, we see George Iceman already standing in the ring with a microphone in his hand, as Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt welcome the viewing audience at home. The personal concierge for The Elegance Brand then introduces Ash & Heather by Elegance.

The reigning TNA Knockouts Tag-Team Champions make their way out accompanied by M by Elegance with “terrible towels” to rile up the Pittsburgh crowd. Iceman also made a callback to Bret Hart’s “stick the hose in Pittsburgh” line in an enema insult to “The Steel City” fans.

After the tag champs settle inside the squared circle for scheduled opening action, the theme for their opponents hits to bring out newcomers Harley Hudson and Myla Grace. As they head to the ring, a split-screen “earlier today” promo from the new Knockouts duo airs.

The bell sounds and it is Heather by Elegance and Myla Grace who kick things off for their respective teams. The reigning champs jump off into an early offensive lead. It isn’t long, however, until Grace and Hudson take over.

Following a decent run of offense for the newcomers, outside interference and distractions from George Iceman and M by Elegance lead to Ash by Elegance hitting Rarified Air off the ropes for the pinfall victory. M by Elegance stopped an attempted save during the pin.

Match Result: The Elegance Brand defeated Harley Hudson & Myla Grace

Backstage With The Hardys & The Rascalz

Backstage, Gia Miller is standing by with The Hardys and The Rascalz. They talk about their match later tonight and their respective goals of capturing the TNA World Tag-Team Championships. After they talk about TNA Slammiversary, the segment wraps up and the show heads into a break.

“Prime” Cedric Alexander & The Good Hands (John Skyler & Jason Hotch) vs. Mustafa Ali’s Secret Service Detail

The show returns from break to the entrance of “Prime” Cedric Alexander, who comes out to the ring accompanied by his tag-team partners for scheduled six-man tag-team action, The Good Hands team of John Skyler and Jason Hotch, as well as Tasha Steelz.

Mustafa Ali comes out next in a suit, only to turn right back around and head to the back, not even wanting to look at his former members on the other side of the ring from his Secret Servicemen. The bell sounds and Alexander goes to work on the opposition.

After some dominant offensive action from Alexander, Skyler and Hotch, things build to the finish, which sees the team pick up the win, only for Steelz to shockingly attack Alexander from behind, setting an equally shocked Mustafa Ali up to blast him with a chair shot.

Match Result: “Prime” Cedric Alexander & The Good Hands defeated Mustafa Ali’s Secret Servicemen

Lei Ying Lee & Masha Slamovich (w/ Xia Brookside) vs. Jacy Jane & Fallon Henley (w/ Jazmyn Nyx)

The show heads to another commercial break after the previous six-man tag-team bout. When the show returns, Xia Brookside’s theme hits. She makes her way out and stops at the top of the stage. Lei Ying Lee comes out next and stops.

TNA Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich makes her way out next. Slamovich heads to the ring with her partner for this tag bout, Lei Ying Lee, as Brookside accompanies them. They settle inside the squared circle and then WWE NXT trio Fatal Influence comes out.

NXT Women’s World Champion Jacy Jane comes out with Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx. They settle in the ring and pose together. It will be Jane and Henley teaming up to take on Slamovich and Lee. The bell sounds and things get started.

Jane and Lee kick things off for their respective teams. Lee lands a big kick, but Jane quickly takes over and brings her into the Fatal Influence side of the ring. She tags out, and in comes Henley picking up where she left off, taking it to Lee.

The show heads into a mid-match commercial break with Jane and Henley in a comfortable offensive lead, dominating Lee and stopping her from having any chance of tagging in the fresh Slamovich. When the show returns, the Fatal Influence duo are still winning with ease.

Eventually, Slamovich gets the much-needed tag from Lee, and this changed the entire tone of the match. The TNA Knockouts Champion went on an offensive rampage, taking out Jane and Henley before finishing the Fatal Influence duo off with a Snow Plow for the win.

Match Result: Lei Ying Lee & Masha Slamovich defeated Jacy Jane & Fallon Henley

TNA International Championship
Steve Maclin (c) vs. Jake Something vs. Mance Warner

A brief TNA Injury Report airs, with Tom Hannifan running down updates on injured TNA talents. It is noted that Myron Reed will fill in for The Rascalz in their eight-man tag-team match alongside The Hardys against First Class and The Nemeths tonight.

From there, the show heads into another commercial break. When the show returns, Leon Slater runs into Moose and The System backstage. He promises Moose he’s gonna bring him the toughest fight he’s ever had, and vows to become the youngest X-Division Champion ever at Slammiversary.

Inside the Impact Zone, the theme for Mance Warner hits and out comes the wild man accompanied by Steph De Lander. Out next is Jake Something, who immediately brawls with Warner before the match even begins.

The reigning TNA International Champion Steve Maclin makes his way out last, and joins in on the fun already in progress. The bel sounds to officially get the title tilt off-and-running. After some early action, we see a big powerbomb spot onto two unfolded steel chairs.

As the action continues, the show heads into a mid-match commercial break. When the show returns, things build to a big stacked spot off the ropes in the corner. Moments later, things culminate with Maclin hitting the K.I.A. for the win to retain.

Match Result: Steve Maclin defeated Mance Warner & Jake Something to retain the TNA International Championship

Tasha Steelz Reveals Plan To Order 4

In the parking lot, Mustafa Ali chases after Tasha Steelz. He asks her what that was earlier tonight. Steelz then goes on to reveal it was a plan she had devised secretly all along. She knew if she called Cedric Alexander he would come running to “save her.”

She says now Ali has a match at TNA Slammiversary against the one guy he’s never been able to beat, his former 205 Live rival and the man everyone says is better than him — “Prime” Cedric Alexander. The Great Hands come up and are confused and angry as well.

She yells at them to pipe down, too, and points out the amount of 0’s on their paychecks compared to the past. She says an organized Order 4 is the most dangerous group in the world. As they go to leave, we hear the annoying voice of Alisha Edwards.

Edwards, accompanied by the rest of The System, does her usual routine, asking “do you wanna know something?” After some verbal back-and-forth between both groups, a match between them is agreed to for next week’s show.

Fourth Rope Is Coming …

In a weird vignette that almost didn’t feel like part of the show, Fourth Rope appears with his custom title in-hand. The former WWE Superstar once known as Enzo Amore starts off with his “…and you can’t teach that” routine from his old days alongside Big Cass.

As he continues to rant and rave in the style that is truly his own, the former Real1 talks about his past shenanigans at Madison Square Garden as a reminder and a warning of what he is capable of when he goes all out. The show heads to another commercial break.

Indi Hartwell vs. Victoria Crawford

The show returns and out comes Victoria Crawford accompanied by Tessa Blanchard. Blanchard joins Hannifan and Rehwoldt on special guest commentary as the former WWE Superstar once known as Alicia Fox settles in the ring.

Crawford will be competing in singles action against another former WWE Superstar, as the theme for Indi Hartwell hits to bring out the former NXT Women’s Champion. The bell sounds to get things officially off-and-running.

Blanchard talks trash about Hartwell the entire time the short bout takes place, with Hartwell winning with ease. After the match, as Hartwell was heading to the back, Blanchard got on the microphone and vowed to beat her at TNA Slammiversary.

Match Result: Indi Hartwell defeated Victoria Crawford

Joe Hendry Sit-Down Interview

After a brief backstage segment where Santino Marella vowed to take action if Eric Young could prove with facts that “The Hometown Man” is really Cody Deaner, the show heads into another commercial break.

When the show returns, the lineup is announced for next week’s TNA Slammiversary 2025 “go-home” episode of TNA Impact (see below). From there, the show cuts to a pre-taped sit-down interview with Tom Hannifan talking to Joe Hendry.

Hendry talks again about how the fans are the reason he became who he is today. He says they were there for him during his ascension. They were there when he stumbled. They’ll be there next weekend when he recaptures the title and brings it home to TNA.

The Hardys (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy) & The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz & Myron Reed) vs. The Nemeths (Nic Nemeth & Ryan Nemeth) & First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro)

It’s main event time!

After the Joe Hendry interview wraps up, the show heads into another commercial break. When the show returns, the familiar sounds of Trick Williams’ theme hits. The WWE NXT Superstar and reigning TNA World Champion makes his way out.

Williams heads down to the ringside area to loud “Whoop that Trick!” chants from the Pittsburgh crowd. Williams settles in on special guest commentary alongside Hannifan and Rehwoldt for the final match of the evening.

With that said, the theme for First Class hits. Out comes AJ Francis and KC Navarro as their new friend, Trick Williams, sings their praises on commentary. Their partners, reigning TNA World Tag-Team Champions The Nemeths come out next.

Nic Nemeth and Ryan Nemeth join Francis and Navarro in the ring, and the four-man team await the arrival of their opposition. The Rascalz theme hits and out comes Zachary Wentz with an original member of the group, Myron Reed.

As noted, Reed is filling in for the injured Trey Miguel in the scheduled eight man tag-team main event on this week’s show. The iconic sounds of The Hardys hits next and out comes Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy. Even Trick seemed to enjoy their entrance until they dissed him.

With all eight men scheduled for the final match of the evening in the ring and ready to rock and roll, the show shifts gears and heads into a quick pre-match commercial break before things get officially off-and-running.

When the show returns, Myron Reed and Nic Nemeth kick things off for their respective teams. Nemeth takes the early offensive lead, stopping to showboat in typical “Wanted Man” fashion. We see some good back-and-forth action from there.

The Hardys finally get their first action in the match, and Hannifan and Rehwoldt point out on commentary how wild it is the way The Hardys have the ability to completely change the mood and feeling in an arena when they enter the ring.

As the action continues in the ring with The Hardys and The Rascalz settling into a comfortable offensive lead, the commentators begin ignoring the action for a bit, as Trick Williams calls out Tom Hannifan for talking bad about him the past few weeks.

When the focus resumes on the match in progress inside the squared circle, the show shifts gears and heads into a mid-match commercial break. When the show returns, we see Nic Nemeth in a comfortable offensive lead, taking it to Wentz.

From there, Francis tags in and takes over, keeping the lead for his team until a few minutes later, when Matt Hardy finally tags in. Matt starts taking out any-and-everything that moves. He goes for a cover, but Francis hits the ring to break it up.

Francis gets in some cheap shots on Matt, but The Hardys icon ends up taking over and firing the crowd up as he hits his signature spots on him in sequence. He goes for the cover on Francis, but now Nemeth hits the ring to break it up.

As things continue to unfold with Hardy taking out everyone and those who interference, we hear Trick Williams say on commentary that he can’t take anymore of this. He pops up, attacks Matt on the ropes, lands a belt shot and sets Francis up for the pin and the victory for his team.

Once the match wraps up, things continue to come unglued. Mike Santana’s theme hits out of nowhere and the crowd roars as he makes his way to the ring through the crowd. The numbers disadvantage is too much for him, however, and Joe Hendry comes out to make the save. That’s how this week’s show goes off the air.

Match Result: The Nemeths & First Class defeated The Hardys & The Rascalz

Next Week On TNA Impact (7/17/2025):

* Dani Luna vs. Tessa Blanchard
* The System vs. Order 4

TNA Impact live results: Chain match for Knockouts title

The TNA Knockouts title will be on the line tonight on Impact in a chain match between champion Masha Slamovich and former partner Killer Kelly.

Kelly issued a challenger last Thursday when Slamovich upped the ante with the stipulation. Champion for nearly 250 days, Slamovich is looking for the 12th successful title defense of her reign.

After the surprise debut of Cedric Alexander, Tasha Steelz will address Alexander and Mustafa Ali this week.

Ahead of their respective teams meeting in a four-way ladder match at Slammiversary, Nic Nemeth takes on Trey Miguel.

The IInspiration will look to continue their march toward a Knockouts Tag Team title bout as they face Victoria Crawford and Tessa Blanchard.

Jake Something makes his return to action for the first time in five months as he battles Mance Warner.

In a battle between veterans, Eddie Edwards takes on Matt Cardona while Frankie Kazarian will share some thoughts ahead of Slammiversary.

**********

A video recap and the usual opening video and “Cross the Line” theme plays to get the show started. Footage is then shown of Joe Hendry’s vow to recapture the TNA World Championship from Trick Williams at TNA Slammiversary.

Tom Hannifan Announces New TNA Slammiversary Main Event

Inside the Impact Zone, Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt welcome fans to the show. They then announce the updated main event for TNA Slammiversary, with Trick Williams now defending the TNA World Championship against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana in triple-threat action.

The IInspiration (Cassie Lee & Jessie McKay) vs. Tessa Blanchard & Victoria Crawford

The theme for Indi Hartwell hits and the former WWE NXT Superstar makes her way out to join Hannifan and Rehwoldt on guest commentary for the opening match of the evening. The theme for The IInspiration plays and out comes Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay for the first match of the show.

After Lee and McKay settle in the ring, their music dies down and the lights dim down. Tessa Blanchard’s entrance tune plays and the lights come back on. Out comes Blanchard and her partner for this tag-team contest, Victoria Crawford.

McKay and Crawford kicked things off for their respective teams at the sound of the opening bell. Crawford backed McKay into the corner. McKay turns Crawford and chokes her. She takes Crawford down and rolls into a pin attempt, but only gets a two-count.

McKay tags in Lee, and the two hit a double-team spot before stopping and doing a double pose. Indi Hartwell mentions on commentary about how she was one of many who were inspired by The IInspiration growing up. They knock Blanchard off the apron, and she’s not happy.

Blanchard tags in, but Lee gets the better of their initial exchange. Blanchard, however, quickly takes over, sending Lee to the mat and choking her over the bottom rope. After Blanchard and Crawford enjoy some time in the lead, things come unglued at the end.

On the floor, Blanchard ends up losing focus on the match and getting into a shouting match with Hartwell. The IInspiration hit a double-team spot on Crawford in the ring for the victory. Afterwards, Blanchard and Hartwell have a wild pull-apart. Hartwell says they will do battle at Slammiversary.

Match Result: The IInspiration defeated Tessa Blanchard & Victoria Crawford

Tom Hannifan Makes TNA Slammiversary Announcements

The show heads to a commercial break after Hannifan and Rehwoldt run down the advertised lineup for the evening. When the show returns, Hannifan is shown on-camera to announce a new pair of matches for the next TNA pay-per-view.

Hannifan announced that The IInspiration vs. The Elegance Brand for the TNA Knockouts Tag-Team Championships is now official for TNA Slammiversary. Also added to the lineup for the special event on July 20 at UBS Arena in Long Island, New York is Indi Hartwell vs. Tessa Blanchard.

Mustafa Ali & “PRIME” Cedric Alexander Stroll Down Memory Lane

Inside the Impact Zone, Tasha Steelz is in the ring. She mentions calling the one man she knew could help talk to Mustafa Ali about the way things have been going lately. She mentioned that the man was “PRIME” Cedric Alexander.

Steelz introduces Alexander, who makes his way out to the ring. Also coming out is the Order 4 leader himself, Mustafa Ali. The two stand together in the ring with Steelz. Alexander talks about coming here to help him.

Alexander asks if Ali remembers 205 Live. He says they were the heart and soul of that division in WWE years ago. Ali tells him he doesn’t want his help. He uses profane language that is censored off the broadcast in doing so.

Ali then challenges Alexander to a match at Slammiversary. Alexander says if he want to take things that way, he’s fine beating his ass. Ali tries hitting him with a cheap shot, but Alexander gets the better of him. Security hits the ring but ends up beaten down by Alexander and The Great Hands, with Ali watching on.

TNA Knockouts Championship (Chain Match)
Masha Slamovich (c) vs. Killer Kelly

The show heads to another commercial break after the Alexander-Ali segment wrapped up. When the show returned, an extended pay-per-view-style pre-match video package aired to tell the story behind the upcoming battle of former MK Ultra partners and friends.

The package wraps up and the lights in the Impact Zone go out. The the dark red lights come on and out comes Killer Kelly. She crawls around with a chain as she heads inside the squared circle. The theme for her opponent, Masha Slamovich, hits next.

Reigning TNA Knockouts Champion Slamovich then joins Kelly in the ring. The two are securely connected to the chain and then the bell sounds and things get officially off-and-running. Kelly crawls to the middle of the ring and looks up at Slamovich.

After the initial exchange, the action quickly spills out to the floor. The chain is used by a weapon by both, and then Kelly sets up a pulley-system type of setup with the chain hanging over the ring post to choke Slamovich. The show heads into a mid-match commercial break.

When the show returns, Slamovich takes over control of the offense. She violently slams Kelly’s face into the steel steps over and over and over again. She drags her up to the top of the entrance area, but Kelly counters and slams her on the steel ramp.

Kelly chokes Slamovich with the chain around her throat before suplexing her on the ramp. After the action resumes back in the ring, Slamovich takes over and chokes Kelly out with the chain for the win to retain her title.

Afterwards, Fatal Influence trio Jacy Jane, Jazmyn Nyx and Fallon Henley hit the ring and beat Masha down. Lee Ying Lei and Xia Brookside run down to make the save, chasing off the WWE NXT trio to wrap up the brief post-match scene.

Match Result: Masha Slamovich defeated Killer Kelly to retain the TNA Knockouts Championship

Eric Young Tells The Northern Armory They Need To Prove Themselves

Footage is shown of Eric Young getting into a physical altercation with a fan once again at last week’s show. The digital exclusive video is shown of Young being ejected from the building and arguing with “The Home Town Man” about really being Cody Deaner on the way out.

Back live, Young is shown backstage with The Northern Armory duo of Judas Icarus and Travis Williams. He blames them for his embarrassment and says they made matters worse by losing to The Hardy Boys. They assure him they’ll do whatever it takes to make it up. Young says prove it.

TNA Injury Report On Trey Miguel, Xia Brookside & AJ Francis

Tom Hannifan checks in with this week’s TNA Injury Report presented by Bioflex. Trey Miguel has a hernia issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Xia Brookside has reaggravated a knee injury and is “day to day” at this time. AJ Francis was banged up after his match last week, but is not expected to miss any time. The show heads to another break.

Matt Cardona vs. Eddie Edwards (w/ Alisha Edwards)

When the show returned from the break, a quick Mike Santana promo from a stairwell was shown. He talks about the voice of the fans forcing TNA management to add him to the Trick Williams vs. Joe Hendry match for the TNA World Championship at TNA Slammiversary. He vows to bring the title home.

Back inside the Impact Zone, the theme for The System hits. Out comes Eddie Edwards accompanied by Alisha Edwards for the next match of the evening. His music dies down and “Alwayz Ready” Matt Cardona emerges next.

Cardona settles in the ring and the bell sounds. Cardona and Edwards immediately collide, with “The Indy God” taking the early offensive lead and slamming Edwards down to the mat. He misses a high spot off the ropes, however, and Edwards takes over.

Alisha is shown trying to sneak The System ring in to Eddie, but Brian Myers comes out and stops him from using it. This allows Cardona to roll Edwards up from behind for the win. After the match, the lights go out. WWE NXT group Dark State hits the ring and attacks Cardona.

Match Result: Matt Cardona defeated Eddie Edwards

Mance Warner (w/ Steph De Lander) vs. Jake Something

Backstage, Sami Callihan is shown tending to “The Home Town Man” who is down and having his face covered by a towel to “protect his identity.” Callihan yells for help.

After this, the Leon Slater digital exclusive package airs, which tells the story of Slater’s young journey into wrestling following family and life hardships.

Inside the Impact Zone, TNA International Champion Steve Maclin’s theme hits. Out he comes to join Hannifan and Rehwoldt on commentary for the next match of the evening. Mance Warner comes out accompanied by Steph De Lander.

The duo kiss and settle in the ring, where Warner will be in one-on-one competition. His opponent, the returning Jake Something, makes his way out after his surprise comeback appearance last week. The bell sounds to get things started.

After some early action, we see things spill out to the floor. Something has not-so-friendly words with Maclin at the commentary desk. He goes back to work on Warner. Warner takes over and does the same, arguing with Maclin.

Maclin ends up losing his cool and getting physically involved, leading to a big impromptu three-man brawl at ringside that many, many security guards struggle to break up. The match is ruled a no contest. The show heads to a break.

When the show returns, they are still brawling backstage. It is announced that the three will do battle with the TNA International Championship on the line on next week’s episode of TNA Impact on July 10.

Match Result: No Contest

Nic Nemeth (w/ Ryan Nemeth) vs. Zachary Wentz (w/ Myron Reed)

Inside the Impact Zone once again, the lights go out. The familiar sounds of The Rascalz’ theme hits and out comes Zachary Wentz. It is once again mentioned that due to an injury to Trey Miguel, Wentz is filling in for the next match of the evening.

Wentz makes his way out to the ring, but he is not alone. With him is a Rascalz original, Myron Reed, who is back on the scene in TNA Wrestling now. After settling in the ring, the entrance tune for Nic Nemeth hits. Out comes “The Wanted Man” and his brother, Ryan Nemeth.

The bell sounds and things get started, with Wentz finding some good early offensive success. It isn’t long, however, before “The Hollywood Hunk” starts inserting himself into the match from the ringside area. This allows his “Big brothhhhherrrrrr” to take over again on offense.

The show heads into a mid-match commercial break as the action continues. When the show returns, we see Wentz is firing up once again on offense. Things continue looking good for Wentz until yet again, Ryan Nemeth interferes, leading to Nic hitting Danger Zone for the win.

Match Result: Nic Nemeth defeated Zachary Wentz

King’s Speech with Frankie Kazarian, Trick Williams, Joe Hendry & Mike Santana

It’s main event (segment) time!

After the commentary duo of Hannifan and Rehwoldt run down the updated lineup for TNA Slammiversary, they announce matches for next week’s episode of TNA Impact on July 10 (see match listing below).

From there, the self-proclaimed “King of TNA” makes his way out to the ring. Frankie Kazarian settles inside the squared circle and hops on the microphone for the debut installment of his new talk show segment, King’s Speech.

Kazarian boasts a bit as always, and then begins introducing his guests. Joe Hendry comes out first, and then Mike Santana, followed by the reigning TNA World Champion Trick Williams. All three will compete with the title on-the-line at TNA Slammiversary.

Each guy takes a turn on the mic stating their case and why they are going to win at TNA Slammiversary on July 20, with things ultimately culminating in a giant melee involving all four guys. When all was said and done, Williams and Kazarian laid out Hendry and Santana. That’s how this week’s show ended.

Cedric Alexander makes TNA debut during Impact tapings

Cedric Alexander is in TNA.

Alexander made his debut during Friday’s tapings right as Mustafa Ali was about to take out his former associate John Skyler. Alexander entered the ring to confront Ali, who eventually left by himself. The rest of Order Four stood with Alexander as Ali retreated.

TNA aired their television tapings live on Friday as a ‘sneak peak’ offered as part of a new free TNA+ tier. The show will air this coming Thursday on AXS TV.

Since his loss to Mike Santana at Rebellion, Ali has been aggressive with his stablemates, causing them to question their loyalty to him. During a summit on last week’s Impact, Ali was upset with Tasha Steelz for texting “him” and told her to stop texting “him.” After dismissing both Steels and Jason Hotch, Ali got into a confrontation with John Skyler and challenged him to a match that took place on Friday.

Alexander was part of WWE releases back on February 7. He is perhaps best known for his run on the main roster as a member of The Hurt Business. His three other stablemates Bobby Lashley, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin reformed the group in AEW last year under the name Hurt Syndicate and are the current AEW Tag Team Champions.

Cedric Alexander: I was more of a Paul Heyman guy than Triple H guy

In WWE, Cedric Alexander felt more like a Paul Heyman guy than a Triple H guy.

Alexander and Paul “Triple H” Levesque shared a special moment in 2016 when Alexander was signed to a WWE contract after his stellar match against Kota Ibushi in the Cruiserweight Classic. On a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Alexander revealed that he actually was technically signed a week before that match — but the moment he shared with the fans and Levesque will always be one of the highlights of his life.

“I don’t think I ever could have picked anything better, unless you made me WWE Champion on the spot [laughs],” Alexander said. “I will cherish that moment forever. That’s a career, life-defining moment.”

Alexander spent almost nine years with WWE before being released from his contract last month. When asked about his relationship with Levesque, Alexander said things never really developed past the endorsement he got from Levesque at the Cruiserweight Classic.

“Honestly, it didn’t go past that, funny enough,” Alexander said. “Like, you would think from that moment I’d be a Triple H guy, right? No, I mean — so there was a point where we were in 205 Live that he kind of had some say in there a little bit, and kind of took care of me. But, like, I was never really a fully Triple H guy. I was more of a Paul Heyman guy when he was writing Raw and they drafted me out of 205 Live into Raw. I was more of a Heyman guy than anything else. Heyman gave me a bunch of little sidebar conversations and this, that, and the other way more than Triple H ever did.”

Van Vliet asked Alexander what the biggest lesson he learned from Heyman was.

“Patience, for better or worse, patience,” Alexander responded. “I remember there was one point I went to Heyman and I was just like, I was probably on Raw for like a year, but they haven’t really done anything with me. And I was like, ‘Hey, Paul, what do I have to do? Like, what do you need from me in order to get to that next level?’ I think this was maybe right after we did the whole thing with AJ [Styles] and the squash match we did on [Clash] of Champions in Charlotte. He was just telling me, ‘No, just wait. We’ll take care of you. If you gotta wait six months, wait six months. If you gotta wait a year, wait a year.’ And I just remember going, ‘I will be the best soldier I can be and just wait it out.’ And every time they called me for something, whether it was the Gary Garbutt thing or any other random thing they asked for, I was, hey, I’m here. What do you want me to do?”

Alexander was released from his WWE contract on February 7 and will officially be a free agent this May. He told Van Vliet that he’s hoping to end up in AEW for a reunion with his former Hurt Business stablemates Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP.
