Joe Hendry claims ‘NXT was one of the most difficult challenges’ in his career

Joe Hendry discussed challenges he faced on NXT and gearing up for his transition to WWE.

On the latest episode of the Insight Podcast, Hendry talked about his transition from TNA to NXT and the challenges he faced in his development as a wrestler. He praised having the opportunity to work under Terry Taylor, Shawn Michaels and Triple H’s guidance.

“I mean, so NXT was one of the most difficult challenges I’ve had in my career and one of the best phases that I’ve had in terms of my growth and development as a wrestler. And I’m lucky that I’ve had the chance to work with. And like you say, Shawn Michaels, Terry Taylor, Triple H, because each of them have different approaches to wrestling. You can learn things from that like Shawn has this, he has this constant pursuit of excellence and this standard that obviously, in ring Shawn is like as good as it gets. He wants to hold you to that standard.”

Hendry appreciated Triple H’s efforts on the main roster’s success, and ability to perceive things from audiences’ perspective.

“And then to go to the main roster and learn from Triple H there’s genius in all three that I’ve mentioned and there’s many geniuses in WWE and in wrestling. But those three to me are definitely geniuses in wrestling.”

“The great thing about working with Triple H is what he’s really good at is he can see the entire picture, the entire show of Raw within WWE and entertainment as a whole. And what I might just be thinking about, I’m just making this song and I’m going to put this joke here and this joke here. He’s able to not just see it through my eyes, but see it through the audience’s eyes and go, sure, totally get that.”

He stated interest in targeting the Intercontinental Championship as a response to fan’s query on which WWE Title he would like to pursue on the main roster

“I’m very grateful and I’m just blown away by the amount of knowledge I’ve been able to gain in such a short space of time. I feel like now I’m in a phase where I feel like if I just commit to entertaining the audience as best as I can and doing the absolute best job I can, all those things that I want will come to me. That said, Intercontinental Championship, please.”

Hendry became popularized on TNA before the promotion’s crossover feuds with NXT. He signed with WWE in 2025 and was officially moved to Raw in April this year.

Joe Hendry announces exclusive WWE album

Joe Hendry has officially recorded an exclusive album with WWE music.

Hendry told Chris Van Vliet on his Insight Podcast that he has recorded an exclusive album with WWE. He announced that it features only original songs and is set to release this summer.

“I haven’t told anyone anywhere, but I have recorded an album with WWE music. And it’s going to drop this summer. And we recorded most of that in New York at the WWE Studios. So what I’ve done now is the microphones that we have there, I have basically replicated the set up back home now. So I don’t need to fly to New York to do it. I can send stuff in and we can work on it back and forth. So that’s one of the things that makes these songs work is because they’re fast and they’re topical. So we can basically like we obviously did the Logan Paul song on TV, but we were able to just get it done that week because we could send files back and forth. But yes, there is an album coming out this summer. They are all original songs.”

Hendry also talked about the influence of The Rock’s concerts on his persona. And how WWE video games were instrumental in his decision to consider a wrestling career.

“So The Rock is the reason I got into the pro wrestling business. I was a fan of the video games before I was actually a fan of wrestling. I’d seen wrestling a couple of times on the TV.”

It (SmackDown 2 video game) was revolutionary that when you did the people’s elbow, The Rock would take off his elbow pad and it would be gone for the rest of the match, right. It was like the graphics can never get better than this. So I decided I’m going to check out wrestling. It was The Rock’s promos that really got me into it. So seeing his concerts as well. The reason why his concerts worked so well is because he did a really good job as well as being funny. He was really good at it. He played super well, he sang well, He was super confident.”

Hendry’s song about Logan Paul on his WWE Raw debut went viral and immediately instigated a rivalry between the two.

WWE Raw notes: Kairi Sane chants, Oba Femi, Joe Hendry

Notes from Monday’s Raw.

The IYO SKY and Asuka storyline continued on Raw, with Asuka costing SKY the Women’s Intercontinental title after a distraction. After Becky Lynch retained the title, Asuka entered the ring and latched on the Asuka lock to further hammer her point home. Loud chants of ‘We Want Kairi’ could be heard as Asuka ended the segment stood tall.

Kairi Sane ended up being one of the more shocking releases on Friday, which saw cuts across both WWE and NXT. Over the weekend, ‘We Want Kairi’ trended on social media with fans hoping WWE would reverse their decision, similar to when R-Truth was released and later brought back last year.

After Grayson Waller complained about everyone else getting opportunities, he started to complain about Oba Femi, saying he was overrated and only beat Brock Lesnar at the end of his career. Femi was right behind him and told Adam Pearce to make the match. After the quick victory, Femi said that with all the top champions tied up, he would officially start his own open challenge, offering anyone back in the locker room a chance to stand up.

On the same show, Joe Hendry appeared and held a concert with a new song making it clear that he had signed with Raw. Austin Theory and Logan Paul came out and heckled Hendry, who ended up calling them losers. They got into a brawl until the Street Profits came out for the save.

Later, the Profits welcomed Hendry to Raw and suggested he change his blue shirt to a red one.

WWE Raw live results: Roman Reigns answers Jacob Fatu

Date: April 27, 2026
Location: Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, TX

The Big Takeaway —

Roman Reigns accepted Jacob Fatu’s world title challenge for Backlash after Fatu laid him out in the main event segment. Fatu made it clear he would be seeing Reigns again next week (on the final Raw before Backlash).

Iyo Sky lost to Becky Lynch in an impromptu Women’s Intercontinental title match thanks to interference by Asuka. Sky and Asuka will wrestle at Backlash.

Kairi Sane was not mentioned by name on the show, but was written off with a few passing references. There were chants for Sane when Asuka attacked Sky after her match.

**********

Show Recap —

They’ve adjusted the signature video that starts every show. Brock Lesnar is now in the “Forever” portion, while Oba Femi has been added to the “Now” portion.

Roman Reigns & The Usos opening pre-taped promo

I would call this a cold open, but it was preceded by a video package of last week’s events. This was similar to a few weeks ago when Raw started with a Roman Reigns pre-taped video instead of the usual in-ring segment. (Although we still got one of those.)

Reigns sat down with Jimmy and Jey Uso. He said the past was the past, and that’s where he would leave it, because they were blood and they were the only ones he could trust. He wanted their thoughts because he wasn’t sure where Jacob Fatu was coming from.

Reigns told everyone that they had two years to climb the mountain (after he lost the title), but after all that time, it was Reigns himself who climbed the mountain and won the title—but now Fatu was trying to take it from him.

Jimmy understood where Fatu was coming from. He understood Fatu wanting to upgrade his household, but it shouldn’t come at Reigns’ expense. Jey said Fatu was dangerous. He dismantled the MFTs one by one on SmackDown. They left Fatu on his own for a reason. If Fatu beat Reigns, he would take everything. Jey said this couldn’t all be about respect—there had to be consequences.

Reigns said Jey was right. They weren’t giving out charity. Reigns said he would sit on this and address it later tonight.

The three men put their hands together, and Reigns called them the first family.

********

Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker segment

Rollins entered to a strong reaction wearing an all-black suit. He said it was Bron Breakker’s fault that he was not currently the world champion and why he lost to Gunther at WrestleMania. Rollins took credit for Breakker having nine staples in the back of his head and called him out.

Breakker entered with Paul Heyman. Rollins said he gave Breakker the world on a silver platter, but Breakker repaid him by taking everything away from him. Breakker was the reason Rollins had to forfeit the title, the reason he didn’t main-event WrestleMania, and the reason he lost at the show. Rollins asked Breakker how it benefited him at all.

Breakker asked Rollins what he gave to him and Bronson Reed. It was the two of them putting out Rollins’ fires week after week and fighting his battles. Breakker and Reed had to sit in the background as Rollins started Raw every week by repeating the same thing over and over. Breakker held his nose and did a nasally impression of Rollins’ usual opening promo (which he, in fact, started this promo with). Breakker said he never needed Rollins—he only needed Heyman.

Rollins laughed at this. Rollins said he was the world champion two years ago and wanted to fight the best in the world. He called Shawn Michaels so he could fight his best in NXT, and Michaels named Breakker. Rollins was on board. Last year, Heyman asked Rollins to take Breakker under his wing. Rollins was on board with that, too, because under his tutelage, he knew Breakker could be the biggest star in the industry.

Rollins has seen athletes of all disciplines come in over the years, but Breakker was the most unique. He had everything to be the next big star in the industry. Everything except the most important thing. Rollins pointed at his head.

Rollins knew what it was like being a 28-year-old young cat coming into the company, thinking the business owed him something. He knew what it was like to bet on himself and make decisions people wouldn’t be happy with. The difference between them was that Breakker tried, while Rollins succeeded.

Rollins took chances that got him WrestleMania main events, while Breakker took chances and wound up with Austin Theory, Logan Paul, dinners on a private jet and happy endings from Heyman. Rollins told Breakker he wasn’t ready.

Breakker said he was well on his way to becoming a main eventer with or without Rollins. He said Rollins’ body and mind couldn’t handle it anymore, and his shoulder couldn’t handle the weight of the strap.

Breakker admitted he came up short in his world title match (against CM Punk), but he could sleep at night knowing he lost to the best in the world rather than to someone who self-proclaimed it. Breakker knew Rollins was a future WWE Hall of Famer. But he was also the very best in the world at being number two.

Rollins responded, “That was pretty good, baby Steiner.” Rollins wondered if Breakker came up with that on his own or if he called Big Poppa Pump for his hookup. Rollins challenged Breakker to a match at Backlash to prove he was ready. Rollins told Breakker Steiner (that’s what he called him) that he wasn’t even number two in his own family.

(The show was 21 minutes old by the time this was done. They laid out their issues well enough—after weeks of physically assaulting each other—but Rollins’ promo in particular probably could have been cut in half. I know Reigns likes to start and end the shows, hence why his promo went first, but they should spread out these long talking segments.)

********

Wrestlers were shown arriving, but Stephanie Vaquer’s introduction was interrupted when she was attacked by Raquel Rodriguez. Roxanne Perez appeared on screen to a big pop (she’s from this town), but the crowd went quiet when she crushed Vaquer with an equipment box. Liv Morgan told Vaquer, “Now this is over because this is my championship.”

Intercontinental Championship: Penta (c) vs. Rusev

The opening match started 29 minutes into the show. It went seven and a half minutes, and three of those were during a break.

As Penta set up for a springboard move, Rusev was about to kick him out of the air with a Machka Kick, but Penta knew it was coming and held onto the rope a second longer to avoid it. Rusev whiffed on the kick, and Penta caught him in a schoolboy for the pinfall win.

— Rusev was annoyed, so he attacked Penta after the match. Ethan Page, who watched the match from ringside, tried to join Rusev, but Rusev wasn’t interested. After Penta fought back, Page decked him from behind. Rusev and Page put the boots to Penta until Je’Von Evans ran out to make the save.

Match result: Penta defeated Rusev to retain the Intercontinental Championship (7:31)

********

There was a commercial for the Hulk Hogan Netflix documentary. This aired during the actual broadcast, not during the Netflix ad break.

El Grande Americano cut a promo about his upcoming mask vs. mask match. In order to prepare, he wanted to challenge the biggest lucha libre star around here, so he challenged Rey Mysterio to a match tonight. The crowd cheered.

During the break, they re-aired the Danhausen/Miz segment from SmackDown. (They aired more of this later.)

********

Becky Lynch promo

Lynch said she finally got rid of AJ Lee and ended her horrible title reign. She put gold around the waist of somebody who deserved it and became the first person to win four different titles at WrestleMania. She’s the first three-time Women’s IC champion and has won more Mania matches than any woman in history. She claimed she was coming for Undertaker’s win record next. (This got no reaction.)

All of that was wonderful, but what happened after the match was more important. She saw a sea of over 50,000 fans at Mania with her daughter sitting in the front row. She took her daughter up the ramp and to the back. She realized she needed to show her what a real champion was. It wasn’t about the five-star hotels or private jets or fancy tour buses, even though she indulged in all of that. It wasn’t about going to the biggest cities—it was about showing up in run-down towns like Loredo and showing up for all the common folk.

She knew the fans wanted her to be a fighting champion and not just against a nostalgia act or an underdog. She knew they wanted something new, shiny and exciting, so she issued an open challenge.

Iyo Sky entered, and the crowd chanted her name. Sky accepted. Lynch laughed. She said she wanted something new, shiny and exciting, and Sky was none of those things. She thought maybe Sky was accepting on Rhea Ripley’s behalf. She wanted to fight Shawn Michaels, not Marty Jannetty. After Lynch said Sky was holding Ripley back, Sky smacked her in the face.

Lynch was about to bail, but Adam Pearce sauntered out to make the title match official.

********

Women’s Intercontinental Championship match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. IYO SKY

There was a passing reference to Kairi Sane during this match, though they never said her name. Michael Cole mentioned Sky and Ripley beating the Kabuki Warriors last week, and that Asuka was still pissed about it. Corey Graves said Asuka was so upset that we wouldn’t be seeing her former pupil for a long time.

Lynch blindsided Sky before the match began. Sky fought her off and tossed her around ringside, and the match began once they reentered the ring. They actually got to wrestle for a good six minutes or so before this went to break. Lynch got some offence, but Sky got the better of her and hit a powerbomb outside the ring.

They traded submission attempts during a break until the fight spilled back outside, where Sky hit a high cross off the barricade. After the break, Lynch hit a superplex and floated over into a DDT for two. Sky countered a Man-handle, hit a great-looking superkick, and a butterfly backbreaker for two.

Sky hit a tornado DDT and went for a moonsault, but Lynch got her feet up and hit a Man-handle Slam for a nearfall. Sky followed later with an Asai moonsault.

As the ref (not Jessika Carr) checked on Lynch, Asuka ran down and tripped Sky off the rope. The ref had to play dumb and pretend she couldn’t see Asuka standing nearby with Sky suddenly down.

Lynch took advantage and hit the Man-handle Slam for the pinfall win. Lynch retains.

— Asuka attacked Sky after the match. Asuka put her in the Asuka Lock, and Sky tapped out. The crowd chanted, “We want Kairi,” as Asuka stood tall.

Match result: Becky Lynch defeated IYO SKY to retain the Women’s Intercontinental Championship (13:22)

This was a really good match until the finish. It was refreshing to see Lynch finally wrestle someone other than Maxxine Dupri or AJ Lee in a singles match (for the first time since August 2025). The crowd was really into Sky, who suffered her fourth straight singles loss.

********

Chad Gable Americano approached Rey Mysterio backstage. Gable asked whether he would have to watch his back when he faced El Grande Americano in their mask vs. mask match. Mysterio said no. All he wanted was for the two of them to respect lucha libre. Mysterio said something in Spanish, and Gable pretended to understand. Mysterio shook his head.

El Grande and his two buddies showed up. El Grande spoke to Mysterio in Spanish, but Gable told him to mind his business. They yelled at each other until Mysterio cut them off and said he wasn’t choosing sides. El Grande said he’d see Mysterio in the ring, and Mysterio was ready.

********

Byron Saxton tried interviewing the Usos, but they were cut off by LA Knight. He asked if they were sitting at the table again, with Reigns at the head of the table. Knight reminded Jey that he was world champion on his own. Jimmy had the potential to be the champion, too, but he couldn’t do that under Reigns.

The Usos told him this was family business. Knight told them that the power they had under the Bloodline eventually corrupts, and then it would be his business.

********

Joe Hendry concert

Hendry said he had a big decision to make and wanted to explain it via song. He sang a song announcing that he signed with Raw. In the song’s final verse, he said he respected the OTC and wanted to fire Logan Paul. He got the crowd to sing along to “fire Logan Paul,” until Paul interrupted.

Paul marched out with Theory and was red-hot. He called himself unfireable. Theory and Paul bragged about being champions. Hendry said he saw their match on ESPN and called them primetime losers.

Theory shoved the microphone into Hendry’s chest, so Hendry decked him with a clothesline and tackled Paul into the corner. The Vision swarmed him, though, until Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford ran out to make the save.

After The Street Profits cleared Paul and Theory from the ring, Hendry wiped them out with a leaping dive. Hendry’s music hit, and he posed with Dawkins and Ford.

(Singing a song proclaiming your admiration for Roman Reigns and hatred of Logan Paul is definitely one way to get yourself endeared to a new audience. Maybe he can shoot the t-shirt gun next week.)

********

Backstage, Grayson Waller complained to Pearce about giving everyone else opportunities. Pearce tried to warn him that Oba Femi was standing behind him, but Waller didn’t get it. Waller said Femi was overrated and only beat Lesnar at the end of his career. Waller turned around to see Femi, who told Peare to make a match. Pearce made it official. (Our third impromptu match.)

*******

The Street Profits officially welcomed Hendry to Raw. Before he left, Ford told Hendry to switch his blue shirt now that he was on Raw.

Rollins approached Dawkins and Ford. He was about to thank them for their help last week, but they cut him off. They said Rollins thought everything was about him, like he was something special, and they walked off.

(I enjoyed Ford and Dawkins telling off Rollins.)

*******

The mask match between El Grande Americano and the Original El Grande is taking place in AAA on May 30th.

Rey Mysterio vs. El Grande Americano (w/ Bravo & Rayo Americano)

There was a funny moment on commentary when Cole said he couldn’t wait to see what this guy looked like without his mask. Graves told him to go watch some old WCW before quickly realizing he meant El Grande, not Rey. (Graves knew what he meant.)

After a break, Rey fought back and hit a tilt-a-whirl DDT. The ref was distracted as Rey tried to get rid of Bravo on one side of the ring, as Rayo tried placing the metal plate inside El Grande’s mask on the other. Rey gave Rayo a 619 for his trouble.

The plate wound up in the ring, and El Grande tried to grab it for himself, but Gable Americano showed up and took it away. Rey shoved El Grande into Gable before giving El Grande a 619 and a springboard splash for the pinfall win.

— Gable and El Grande brawled after the match until officials broke it up.

Match result: Rey Mysterio defeated El Grande Americano (8:36)

********

Announced for Backlash so far:

  • Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
  • IYO SKY vs. Asuka

Asuka promo

Asuka said she wasn’t done with Sky yet. She was still Sky’s senpai. All she tried to do was help Sky, but she only disappointed her. Sky was ungrateful, selfish, and her biggest failure. Sky failed Asuka and failed her family.

Asuka said, “And now, we’re both alone, because I didn’t want another IYO.” (Another reference to Sane without saying her name.) Asuka said Sky killed her family, and now nothing would stop Asuka from destroying her. She would teach Sky one final lesson: that she would never be ready for Asuka.

*******

Oba Femi vs. Grayson Waller

Femi slammed Waller before hitting a running uppercut and a Fall From Grace powerbomb for the pinfall win.

— After the match, Femi said the top champions were all tied up, and the United States Champion wasn’t accepting open challenges. Instead, Femi issued an open challenge to face him. He offered everyone a chance to step up, but warned that anyone who did so would be punished by the ruler.

The crowd was into Femi as usual.

Match result: Oba Femi defeated Grayson Waller (1:04)

********

Liv Morgan spoke to Roxanne Perez backstage. Morgan wanted to finish the conversation they were having before WrestleMania when Vaquer bashed their heads together. (So they had no opportunity to chat in the last three weeks outside of this show.)

Morgan knew it must have been tough for Perez to watch everything that went down with Finn Bálor, because she knew they were close. But Morgan said they were a family, and Bálor put himself before the family. Morgan would never do that, so she would be in Perez’s corner tonight.

Morgan asked Perez if she trusted her. Perez nodded her head, but told Morgan to go ahead without her.

After Morgan left, Bálor slipped into the room unnoticed somehow and warned Perez that she couldn’t trust anyone in Judgment Day. Perez wondered if she could trust Bálor. She told him to leave before he got hurt. He wished her luck and left.

Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (w/ Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan) vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria

Perez was a huge fan favourite in front of her hometown crowd, and the crowd booed whenever the babyfaces went on offence against her. Cole said she had about 30 friends and family in the crowd.

Perez and Valkyria got hot tags after a break, but it was the babyface Valkyria who ran wild to the chorus of boos. Perez fought back and gave Bayley a Russian leg sweep as Rodriguez simultaneously hit a big boot, but Valkyria broke up the cover.

Perez knocked Valkyria off the apron and set up Bayley for Pop Rox, but Bayley countered and hit Bayley-to-belly for two after Rodriguez broke up the cover. Valkyria tackled Rodriguez out of the ring.

Morgan leaped on the apron, so Bayley went after her. Bayley grabbed Morgan by the hair, but Morgan jumped down to the floor to break it up, and Bayley bounced off the rope as a result. The ref didn’t call a DQ, but this was basically Bayley’s own fault.

The distraction allowed Perez to hit a shining wizard and Pop Rox for the pinfall win to a big pop from the crowd.

Match result: Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez defeated Bayley & Lyra Valkyria (9:20)

The match itself was just ok, but it was nice to see Perez get a big ovation and a win in her hometown in her return to the ring.

********

There was a quick Sol Ruca video package. She signs her Raw contract next week.

Main event segment

Roman Reigns entered to a very big reaction. He said it’s been a while since he’s been in Texas, and if you couldn’t tell by watching at home, they loved him here. Everyone cheered.

Reigns said they created this world title belt in spite of him. They made it to try to take away from his shine, but it didn’t work. There was an old saying, and it was true: the title didn’t make the man, the man made the title. That’s exactly what he did. He put the title in the main event and on night two of WrestleMania. He made the title relevant, and now, you could finally be proud of it. Now, you could finally choose to acknowledge this title. Reigns told Loredo to acknowledge him. They did.

Jacob Fatu entered. Reigns said he gave Fatu a week to think it over and hoped he had made the right choice. Reigns hoped that Fatu would choose to unite their family and not divide.

Fatu said he didn’t need a week, a day, or an hour to think about it. Fatu knew exactly what he wanted when he came out last week. He didn’t hesitate when he said he needed that title.

Fatu said Reigns must be stuck in his WWE main event bubble. Reigns didn’t grind like him. Twelve years of hard work and suffering, not knowing what the next meal was going to be. While Reigns was running the Bloodline, Fatu was broke, foaming out the mouth, grinding on the front line, trying to figure out if he would get here or not.

It wasn’t how you started, but how you finish, and it got him standing out here now in front of Reigns’ ass. When he got started in WWE, Reigns, Jimmy, and Jey didn’t call him. Solo Sikoa did. Sikoa gave him a chance.

Reigns cut him off. Reigns said Fatu was either confused or dumber than he thought. Sikoa couldn’t even get a coffee delivered to the building if he wanted to. Reigns was the one who ran the place.

Reigns admitted he got a little distracted because things did get hectic around here, but he did sign off on Fatu. But now Fatu was sounding like a confused fool. Fatu didn’t deserve it and hasn’t earned it. Allowing Fatu to compete against him was nepotism, and he couldn’t allow that.

Before Reigns could continue, Fatu aggressively grabbed him by the jaw and wouldn’t let go until Reigns bonked him with the mic. Fatu put him in the Tongan Death Grip and headbutted him until he fell to the mat. Fatu warned Reigns that he would take everything from him.

Fatu held the title before dropping it on Reigns. There was a smattering of boos for Fatu as he walked off.

Reigns, still down on the mat, grabbed the mic and said he would see Fatu at Backlash. Before the show ended, Fatu told Reigns off-mic that he’d see his punk-ass next week.

(This was another strong segment following last week’s setup. Fatu comes across as completely different from everyone else on the show and as a title challenger. It’s tricky because he’s an easy guy to root for, but going against Reigns seems to automatically make him a heel to this audience right now. He doesn’t seem to be going full-fledged heel, he’s just out of his mind with the title within his grasp, so we’ll see how they handle it.)

WWE NXT notes: Joe Hendry, Sol Ruca, Myka Lockwood

Here’s some notes from Tuesday’s NXT TV:

Both Joe Hendry and Sol Ruca appeared to make their final appearances on Tuesday’s show, losing both of their respective matches. Hendry was first up, losing to Keanu Carver after Carver mounted Hendry and repeatedly threw punches until the referee stopped the match.

Hendry is already advertised for a concert on next week’s Raw and it was said on Raw that he is now part of the roster.

In the main event, Zaria defeated Ruca to emerge victorious in their feud. A dramatic moment took place high on a perch near a set of two tables. Zaria suddenly had a change of heart, pleading with Ruca. The two grew emotional and hugged, seemingly working things out right then and there.

The two hugged, but Zaria revealed it was a ruse, shoving Ruca off the perch and sent her crashing through one of the tables, smacking her head on the other table that didn’t break.

While two wrestlers seemed on their way out, Myka Lockwood made her on-screen debut as a character as a potential new love interest of Jackson Drake. The storyline had Shiloh Hill setting up Drake on a date so they wouldn’t interfere in the Women’s North American title match, only to be disappointed that the date stood him up. Lockwood appeared and the two appeared to hit it off. Lockwood also deduced that Hill had Drake attempt to hook up with an AI chatbot. The skit ended with Lockwood walking out of the bar with all three Vanity Project members.

Joe Hendry called up to WWE Raw, holding concert as part of next week’s lineup

Joe Hendry is officially part of the WWE Raw roster and will celebrate with a live concert in a week.

Michael Cole revealed the news during Monday’s Raw after WrestleMania when doing a quick rundown of next week’s Raw, saying that Hendry was part of the Raw roster now to which Corey Graves feigned disgust.

Hendry had been rumored to be officially called up in January as SmackDown expanded to three hours but that wasn’t to be. Instead, he remained in WWE NXT and won the NXT title, holding it for 60 days before losing it to Tony D’Angelo in a four-way at April’s Stand & Deliver.

He did compete in last Friday’s Andre the Giant memorial battle royal on SmackDown, won by Royce Keys.

Next week’s Raw will also feature the return of new Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch after she defeated AJ Lee to regain the title at this past weekend’s WrestleMania 42.

WWE Raw lineup | Next Monday | Laredo, Texas

  • Joe Hendry concert
  • Becky Lynch appearance
  • Roman Reigns & Jacob Fatu appearances

Joe Hendry admits not facing John Cena in retirement tour ‘lit a fire’ under him

Joe Hendry competed in his first WrestleMania match last year against Randy Orton. He hoped to be one of John Cena’s opponents on his retirement tour but that did not materialize.

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Hendry discussed being a participant at SNME in December which was a final tribute to John Cena. He was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Cena’s farewell show.

“What I will say, I was super grateful to be a part of the last show. That was a really incredible experience. I got to talk to John there and I was there for when he did his last speech to the locker room. So to be there for that was pretty incredible, as well as appear on the show, to walk out at the end of the show as well to watch John’s last moments as an active WWE competitor, that was very special. So I was very grateful to be a part of it. It’s one of those things that I have to say that I think everything happens for a reason. There’s part of me that wonders, maybe it had to happen that way. Maybe the match had to not happen for me to [appreciate that] you can’t expect every surprise moment to go your way.”

Hendry admits that not facing Cena in his retirement tour motivated him even further in his NXT run.

“I think lit a fire under me actually, because it made me realize that, I guess, my goal was to face John Cena and because it didn’t happen, I was like, ‘Right, well, I need to take this to the next level now.’ I think it motivated me even more. I think the approach I took with going to NXT is I was in the Performance Center every day. I was doing the classes. It was not something that I had to do; it was something that I wanted to do. I really just tried to immerse myself in NXT as much as possible. I think going in with that, [I embraced] NXT to learn how WWE works. I feel I got like extra motivation because sometimes I think if everything just comes to you easily, maybe someone might take it for granted. So I just took it as extra motivation to go, ‘Alright, you know what? I need to dig even deeper to get these big moments to continue to happen.’”

Hendry did have a segment at SNME with R-Truth and The Miz. He joined Truth in a comedic tribute to Cena while attacking Miz.

In February this year, Hendry won the NXT Championship, marking his first WWE title win. He lost the title at NXT Stand & Deliver in a fatal four-way match to Tony D’Angelo.

Hendry and Cena met backstage after his WrestleMania 41 match where he praised his Royal Rumble performance. Additionally, Cena later applauded Hendry’s work ethic and saw him as a ‘major player’ in the industry.

Two title matches, Joe Hendry vs. Keanu Carver added to WWE NXT Revenge week 2

New matches have been added to the second night of NXT Revenge.

Both North American titles will be on the line. Robert Stone on Tuesday agreed with Blake Monroe that she should get a title rematch, but Tatum Paxley would only agree if she got to pick the stipulation. Later, Paxley told Robert Stone she wanted a casket match, pointing to Shiloh Hill nearby who had constructed a casket for her.

The men’s North American title will also be on the line when Myles Borne defends against Dion Lennox. Borne called out Lennox over his attack at Stand & Deliver and eventually agreed to a title match for next week. But the segment also highlighted tension between Shaquon Shugars and Lennox, with Shugars again accusing Lennox of thinking about himself more than about DarkState. The two argued more later in the show, with Osiris Griffin and Cutler James attempting to make peace.

A match to determine the new men’s Speed Champion was also decided on Tuesday, when EK Prosper defeated Dorian Van Dux with a moonsault with seven seconds left in the match. He will face Lexis King next week to crown a new champion.

Joe Hendry and Keanu Carver will meet after Carver crashed Hendry’s concert, where he attempted to explain his future following his title loss. The two quickly got into a fight and despite security attempting to break it up, Carver ended up laying everyone out, bloodying Hendry in the process.

WWE NXT (April 21)

  • Last woman standing: Sol Ruca vs. Zaria
  • Casket match for NXT Women’s North American title: Tatum Paxley defends against Blake Monroe
  • NXT North American title: Myles Borne defends against Dion Lennox
  • WWE Speed title: Lexis King vs. EK Prosper
  • Joe Hendry vs. Keanu Carver

Say his name at WWE WrestleMania 42? How Joe Hendry could be included next weekend | Column

Joe Hendry had everyone singing his entrance song before he even stepped foot in WWE.

After two months, he lost the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver on April 12 in a fatal four-way match to Tony D’Angelo. If history is any indication, a popular talent losing a title so close to a PLE suggests a main roster move. But in Hendry’s case, it could set the stage for another WrestleMania moment.

Last year, Hendry was Randy Orton’s mystery opponent at WrestleMania 41 after Kevin Owens announced he needed to undergo a neck surgery in April 2025, pulling him from the match.

Here’s a few ways Joe Hendry could make his presence felt at WrestleMania 42:

A last minute addition to the Intercontinental title match

On the March 30 edition of Raw, Penta announced a ladder match at WrestleMania 42 for his Intercontinental Championship. Shortly after, WWE confirmed Je’Von Evans, Rusev and JD McDonagh as challengers. This week, Rey Mysterio returned and confirmed his participation in the bout.

Given Hendry’s popularity among the fanbase, he could easily be announced as a surprise addition. Even without a win, Hendry’s participation would be sufficient enough to re-introduce himself with the main roster audience on WWE’s biggest stage.

A surprise opponent for The Miz

At Saturday Night’s Main Event last December, R-Truth confronted The Miz and blamed him for stealing another wrestler’s spot in The Last Time Is Now tournament. He handed Miz a piece of paper with the correct participant’s name on it — Hendry, who appeared as soon as his name was said aloud.

A frustrated Miz lashed out at Hendry who dodged his strike. He teamed up with R-Truth for a comedic tribute to John Cena, using his signature “You can’t see me” taunt followed by a Standing Ovation by Hendry. It was not an official match, but Hendry pinned The Miz as Truth counted the fall.

In line with their brief encounter, WWE could promote The Miz for a match at WrestleMania 42. Whether pre-planned on SmackDown in a comedic altercation or directly at the PLE, a rematch of sorts between the two could lead to a showdown.

Involvement in the Sami Zayn vs. Trick Williams United States title match

Zayn captured the United States Championship from Carmelo Hayes last month and is now set to defend against Trick Williams at WrestleMania. Hendry and Williams have history from NXT, most particularly associated with their TNA crossover feuds. At NXT Battleground in 2025, Williams defeated Hendry for the TNA World Championship.

Hendry’s interference in his first-ever WrestleMania match, potentially costing him the win, would immediately set up his first major SmackDown feud.

John Cena gives him a passing-of-the-torch moment

Cena is scheduled to host WrestleMania 42 and has consistently shown appreciation for emerging talent in WWE.

Hendry once revealed he bumped into Cena backstage soon after he won the undisputed WWE Title at WrestleMania 41. Cena praised Hendry’s performances at the Royal Rumble and last year’s Mania match against Randy Orton, later labeling Hendry as a “brilliant talent who is going to be a major player” during a Pat McAfee Show appearance.

WrestleMania 41 could provide the perfect stage for an interaction between the two, either backstage or in the ring, with Cena officially giving Hendry his stamp of approval and possibly welcoming him to the main roster.

Final thoughts

Joe Hendry has proven his ability to captivate audiences with his charisma, music and in-ring presence. With all eyes on WrestleMania 42 and his previous track record at the PLE, it would be a great spot for his official main roster transition. Even if it’s not an immediate shift, his presence alone would make for another memorable WrestleMania moment.

WWE NXT notes: Finlay & William Regal appear, Charlie Dempsey, Tony D’Angelo

Notes from this week’s NXT.

After Charlie Dempsey agreed to team with Tavion Heights, he turned against his former tag team partner on Tuesday after seeing his father William Regal and Finlay at the entrance. It was then that he dragged Heights out of the ring and gave him a German suplex, eventually allowing Birthright to score the victory. Dempsey then entered the ring and posed with the rest of Birthright, solidifying himself as the newest member of the group.

On social media, Finlay shared a picture of him and Regal with the group backstage writing: “well, who would have thought! ⁦@WWENXT just changed. You need this, yet you recoil from it.”

Birthright, consisting of Lexis King, Stacks, Arianna Grace, and Uriah Connors had been attempting to recruit Dempsey for several weeks. At Vengeance Day, Dempsey rejected their offer outright and agreed to team with Heights for Tuesday’s match.

Tony D’Angelo came to the ring on Tuesday following his victory over Dion Lennox and said the other reason he returned to NXT was because he wanted to win the NXT Championship, calling out Joe Hendry. He said last year he would have asked to break bread with Hendry but now things are different, saying Hendry better prepare for him because he would not be denied.

The main event of Tuesday saw Ethan Page and Ricky Saints defeating Hendry and Myles Borne after Page pinned Hendry, setting himself up as one of the top contenders for the NXT Championship.

WWE NXT live results: Vengeance Day fallout

A big tag match headlines tonight’s Vengeance Day fallout edition of WWE NXT.

The main event of Saturday’s PLE saw Joe Hendry successfully defend the NXT Championship against Ricky Saints. Tonight, they’ll meet again as Hendry teams up with Myles Borne against Saints & Ethan Page. Page tried to interfere and cost Hendry the match at Vengeance Day, but a miscommunication helped Hendry retain.

Borne became the new NXT North American Champion two weeks ago by dethroning Page for the title.

Sol Ruca will be in action tonight against Lainey Reid. It’s happening one week in advance of Ruca challenging Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women’s Championship in a triple threat match that also includes Zaria.

A new number one contender to Women’s Speed Champion Fallon Henley will be determined when Wren Sinclair takes on Thea Hail tonight.

Plus, Jasper Troy, Eli Knight, and Sean Legacy collide in a triple threat bout. We’ll also likely get an appearance by new NXT Women’s North American Champion Tatum Paxley following her win over Izzi Dame at Vengeance Day.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

In a prelude to tonight’s episode of NXT is a recap from last weekend of Vengeance Day. The follow up tonight is in front of a live studio audience at a sound stage from the Performance Center in Orlando.

Opening the show is the newly-crowned NXT Women’s North American Champion Tatum Paxley with an in-ring monologue. She is excited to be the new champ, and the studio audience chanted “you deserve it” for her. She credits them with winning the title, and not because of The Culling or anyone else. The fans reminded her to keep going.

Paxley says she won the title for “us”, and she realizes something about Izzi Dame. With that, Dame interrupts the monologue and throws to a video package recapping the journey of Tatum Paxley in NXT. It includes footage from her tryout and her turning on Ivy Nile in a previous angle from some time ago. Dame uses that to claim Paxley current persona is “just another mask” to hide herself as being a “weirdo” in NXT. Dame sarcastically insists she is impressed Paxley is such a chameleon, but Paxley will forever be the girl trying to fit in.

Dame says she hopes Paxley enjoyed the last few days “borrowing” Dame’s title. Dame warns Paxley that she wants her North American title back from Paxley. Dame steps towards Paxley, whose escape is blocked by Shawn Spears and Niko Vance of The Culling. Dame boots Paxley with a high kick and gives her a jackknife powerbomb. Dame then stands over Paxley posing with the North American title belt alongside, and she is flanked by Spears and Vance.

This whole segment would be better if they skipped the banter and went straight to the attack. An opening angle such as this is overdone in WWE. Speaking of something overdone in WWE, up next is a triple threat match. But first a skit from the men’s locker room.

— Ricky Saints is talking with Ethan Page in their locker room, and Saints is trying to give Page a pep talk. Page begins to agree with Saints their recent loses are a blimp on their stellar careers, an they will soon be back in title contention.

Jasper Troy vs. Eli Knight vs. Sean Legacy in a triple threat match

Legacy and Knight wore gear with matching colors, which is fitting since they both won the match in what became a de facto handicap match.

Lots of high spots and action. Troy was a monster heel against the two babyfaces, until he is ambushed by Keanu Carver doing a run-in. Carver attacked Troy before chokeslaming Troy on the broadcast booth, and the desk implodes on impact. That takes Troy out of the match for a little while. Carver, who has history with Booker T, has a confrontation with Booker as the show cuts to a commercial break

Back from the break, and Troy is still laid out on the floor. Meanwhile, Knight and Legacy are having a good match in the ring. Troy eventually rises and comes back to pummel both Knight and Legacy. Troy gets a near fall after a chokeslam, but Knight and Legacy work to cut him off.

For the finish, Legacy springboards into a 450 splash, followed by a moonsault press off the top rope from Knight. Both Legacy and Knight then covers Troy, and the referee counts three. They shake hands and embrace as they both are apparently declared winners of the match.

Match result: Sean Legacy and Eli Knight defeated Jasper Troy when both pinned Troy in a triple threat match.

— In a backstage skit, Tatum Paxley is searching for Izzi Dame. Paxley instead finds Shiloh Hill, who is holding a four-way lug wrench. Hill offers Paxlety a solution and they wander off together.

— The Birthright faction talk to Uriah Connors backstage, and Lexis King asks Connors if he made the call. Connors says he did not, but his dad made the call. “They” are on the way, according to Connors.

Charlie Dempsey & Tavion Heights vs. Lexis King & Uriah Connors (with Arianna Grace & Stacks)

William Regal and Fit Finlay appear in a cameo that led to Dempsey turning on Heights. No Quarter Catch Crew is apparently no more. This was more of an angle than a match, although they did wrestle for several minutes. The match itself was good, and so was the angle. Dempsey eventually turns on Heights, and Dempsey joins Birthright.

Regal and Finlay appear at ringside as Dempsey and Heights hug. That hug was a swerve, as Dempsey then executes a German suplex on the floor when he turns on Heights. Back in the ring, Lexis King uses his Coronation finisher on Heights. King then pins Heights to win the match.

Match result: Lexis King & Uriah Connors defeated Tavion Heights & Charlie Dempsey in a tag team match when King pinned Heights.

After the match, Demspey looks at his father (Regal) and Finlay. Dempsey proceeds to get into the ring to join the Birthright faction as their newest recruit.

— Another silly backstage skit with Shiloh Hill and car horns blaring, as Hill apparently used his four-way lug wrench to take the tires off all the cars in the parking lot because he did not know which belonged to The Culling. NXT GM Robert Stone has his hands full as The Culling are naturally upset about Hill’s actions.

— Tony D’Angelo is heading to the ring for a monologue. After a commercial break, D’Angelo get a full entrance. D’Angelo then cuts a promo where he sets his sights on the NXT title.

Tony D’Angelo issues warning for NXT Champion Joe Hendry

D’Angelo told us he came back for two reasons. The first involved Darkstate, and that ended at Vengeance Day when he left them beaten and empty. They were looking for answers just like he did.

The other reason D’Angelo returned is to win the NXT Championship. While he was away from NXT, D’Angelo had to be honest with himself about his future in NXT. There was one thing he could not accomplish, so he basically reinvented himself into the toughest son of a bitch in NXT. D’Angelo then vows to win the NXT title.

D’Angelo says Joe Hendry is a sensation, and D’Angelo has no issue with him — except Hendry is the champion. A year ago D’Angelo and Hendry could have sat down to break bread together, but nowadays if D’Angelo has to go through Hendry then he will do so. D’Angelo would love to say it is just business, but the title is personal to him.

This is Hendry’s one warning. Hendry better prepare for D’Angelo because he will not be denied winning the NXT title.

— Sol Ruca is warming up backstage for her match. Lola Vice approaches her to offer a pep talk, and she says they will be fighting for the women’s title at Stand & Deliver.

— Wren Sinclair and WWE Women’s Evolve Champion Kendal Grey are in a backstage kitchen talking with NXT North American Champion Myles Borne, who is looking for his tag team partner for tonight — NXT Champion Joe Hendry.

They rush over to a refrigerator in a comedic callback to Hendry jumping out of a fridge in previous skits when they say his name and he appears. Instead of Hendry, in the fridge is a cake. Hendry suddenly appears and he agrees to talk strategy for his tag match tonight where he teams with Borne. Grey eats cake with her hands in what was supposed to be comedy.

Sol Ruca vs. Lainey Reid (with Fatal Influence)

Reid’s cohorts in Fatal Influence — NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne and NXT Women’s Speed Champion Fallon Henley — are in her corner, and they play into the match. Jayne defends her title against Ruca in an upcoming triple threat match that also involves Zaria. That plays into this match as Fatal Influence interferes in tonight’s bout.

The match goes through a commercial break. Just before the show cuts to the break, Ruca springboard into a quebrada on the floor. Soon thereafter, Henley distracts the referee while Jayne interferes by grabbing Ruca’s leg. That allows Reid to gain an underhanded advantage. Ruca is in peril as the show heads into a break.

Ruca with a comeback when the show returns from the break. Meanwhile, Zaria is shown watching the match from a backstage monitor. Reid and Ruca go back-and-forth. Reid looks to finish Ruca, but Ruca has a counter followed by a Sol Snatcher. Ruca then pins Reid, much to the chagrin of Jayne and Henley.

Match result: Sol Ruca defeated Lainey Reid via pinfall.

Thea Hail vs. Wren Sinclair in a Speed tournament final

Of course, the match was short with a three-minute time limit. This tournament finale was fun while it lasted, and Sinclair submitted Hail with under a minute remaining in the time limit. For the finish, Hail applies an armbar. Sinclair counters to apply cattle mutilation (which was called “The Final Wrench”), and Hail submits. In winning, Hail earns a title shot against WWE Women’s Speed Champion Fallon Henley next Tuesday in Houston.

Match result: Wren Sinclair defeated Thea Hail vis submission in the finals of the tournament to crown a number one-contender for the Women’s Speed Championship.

— In yet another skit, Robert Stone announces a tournament to determine number one contenders for the tag team titles. The tag team roster is in his office, and this skit plays on previous skit in the show. The tag teams all start brawling as the show cuts away from the skit.

— Blake Howard interviews Fatal Influence. Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley cut promos vowing to retain their respective titles. In comes Wren Sinclair and Kendal Grey to cut promos on them, and Fatal Influence leaves.

— Tatum Paxley and Izzi Dame have a pull-apart brawl backstage as they are separated by referees and security. Robert Stone yells at them and announces Paxley defends her North American title against Dame in a cage match next Tuesday in Houston.

— Blake Howard interviews Robert Stone in what is a hard sell for next Tuesday in Houston. Stone announces that Darkstate and OTM are out of the tag tournament for their actions last weekend and the brawl earlier in his office. Vanity Project rolls up to gloat, and Stone surprises them to announce Vanity Project has a six-man tag team match next week against Los Americanos. Stone then throws to Vic Joseph at the announce for an important announcement about next Tuesday.

— Vic Jospeh, who does commentary alongside Booker T, announces next Tuesday is also “Booker T Appreciation Night” on NXT. I would expect an angle as well.

–Up next is the tag team main event that headlines tonight’s card.

Ethan Page & Ricky Saints vs. NXT Champion Joe Hendry & NXT North American Champion Myles Borne

The story of the match is Saints & Page remain in a slump. Before the match goes through a commercial break, Saints goes to slide the North American title belt to Page to presumably use as a weapon. However, the belt slides way past Page, and Page yells at Saints.

Heat on Borne, as the heel duo works him over. They do the old Power & Glory tandem finisher on Borne, as Saints does a superplex followed by Page doing a Superfly splash. That led to a near fall.

Hot tag to Joe Hendry, and he cleans house. Olympic slam by Hendry for a near fall on Saints. Page trips up Hendry, which leads to a double down in the ring.

In a callback to earlier the match, Page slides Saints a title belt to use as a weapon. The referee clearly sees it and takes the belt away from Saints. While he protests to the ref, Saints is rolled up by schoolboy, and Hendry gets another near fall. Saints cuts off Hendry with a spear, but Page makes a bling tag. Saints argues with Page about the blind tag.

Meanwhile, the NXT title belt is still in the ring (since the ref dropped it trying to count the roll up pinning attempt). Borne rushes to dropkick Saints out of the ring. The ref is distracted trying to get Borne out of the ring, as he was not the legal man. Behind the ref’s back, Page executes the Twisted Grin (Twist of Fate), and Hendry takes a bump on his title belt. Page then hooks a leg to pin Hendry.

Match result: Ethan Page & Ricky Saints defeated Joe Hendry & Myles Borne when Page pinned Hendry.

Despite them being at odds at times, Saints & Page celebrate their tainted victory.

Tag team match added to WWE NXT

A new match is set for Tuesday.

On social media, it was announced that Ethan Page and Ricky Saints will team up to take on Joe Hendry and Myles Borne. The match is based on events that took place at NXT Vengeance Day this past Saturday that saw Joe Hendry retain the NXT Championship over Ricky Saints.

Earlier on that show, a dejected Page begrudgingly agreed he would help Saints in the main event by giving the NXT title to Saints. However, he overshot his target and it landed near Hendry instead, putting it in the view of the referee. The match finished with Hendry hitting the standing ovation to retain the title.

Page lost the NXT North American title to Myles Borne on the February 24 episode of NXT then lost a rematch one week later.

Here is the updated lineup for Tuesday:

WWE NXT (March 10)

  • Ethan Page & Ricky Saints vs. Joe Hendry & Myles Borne
  • Women’s Speed tournament finals: Wren Sinclair vs. Thea Hail
  • Tavion Heights & Charlie Dempsey vs. Lexis King & Uriah Connors
  • Jasper Troy vs. Eli Knight vs. Sean Legacy

Joe Hendry applying lessons from CM Punk, John Cena as NXT Champion

During his NXT Championship reign, Joe Hendry is applying lessons he’s learned from CM Punk and John Cena.

Hendry told The Takedown on SI that elevating the NXT Championship and helping to elevate NXT as a brand is the major objective he has for his title reign. He is keeping a close eye on business metrics like live attendance and TV ratings, which is a habit Hendry picked up by seeing top guys like Punk and Cena do the same.

“It’s a huge responsibility. Being the champion is a rare privilege,” Hendry said. “And when you are the champion, there is now pressure on your shoulder to try and help elevate the ticket sales. You need to be aware of ratings. You need to be aware of locker room morale. You need to try and lead by example. There’s a lot of pressure. But like I said, I’ve spent a lot of time at the Performance Center. I’m really, really enjoying the training, and I feel like we’ve got a real team environment down there. We’re divided into different groups, and I feel like my group is just — we’re so motivated, the roster is hungry, and it’s an exciting time. So to be the one that gets to wear this championship and spearhead the brand right now, it’s a huge honor and it’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. Every championship title reign has a story, and I want the story to be that I was able to elevate the championship and help elevate the brand…

“Anytime I get to a live event, my first question is to ask, ‘Where are we at with the draw? Where were we last time?’ And I’ve learned that from, CM Punk does that, John Cena did that, all the top talents did that. So I’ve tried to learn as much as I can from these guys. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with these guys and learn from them. And that is one thing I’ve noticed, is that they’re very hands-on with the stats and knowing what they are. And, yes, it’s pressure, but in this game pressure is a privilege.”

Cena, Punk, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are some of Hendry’s biggest insipirations. He hasn’t gotten the chance to meet Johnson yet, but Hendry did work with Johnson’s daughter Simone (Ava) when she was the NXT general manager.

“I was happy to let her know that it was her dad that inspired me to get into the business, so we had a really nice conversation about that,” Hendry told The Takedown on SI. “I absolutely wish her the best. I think she was doing an awesome job. We had some great moments on TV. So whatever’s next, I wish her the absolute best. And it was fun working with her.”

Hendry is defending the NXT Championship against Ricky Saints at Vengeance Day this Saturday. On NXT last night, Hendry stood tall heading into the PLE.
