ROH Supercard of Honor notes: Paul Walter Hauser, champions retain, Taurus

Along with a new World Champion and the inaugural Women’s TV Champion being crowned in controversial fashion, Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor also had some additional news with some debuts, returns, and the like.

After defeating Sami Callihan in a street fight at Friday’s WrestleCon Supershow, Paul Walter Hauser made a surprise appearance as one of Dalton Castle’s Boys, helping him during his Fight Without Honor over Johnny TV.

Hauser was involved in an AEW angle in January 2023 where Jeff Jarrett and his crew took Hauser’s Golden Globe award — one that was never resolved.

The show saw the aforementioned new men’s World Champion and inaugural Women’s TV Champion crowned, but all of the other titles did stay in place with their respective titleholders.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena extended her successful title defense streak to 20 with her victory over former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida.

Kyle Fletcher successfully defended the ROH Men’s TV title in a victory over Lee Johnson while ROH Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) kept their titles with a victory over The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean).

ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bang Bang Gang (Jay White & The Gunns) successfully retained their titles over Monster Sauce (Alex Zayne & Lance Archer) and surprise partner Minoru Suzuki.

It was Suzuki’s first ROH appearance since 2022’s Supercard of Honor and Zayne’s second ROH match since the summer of 2002.

Black Taurus made his return to ROH but under his new name of The Beast Mortos, picking up a win over Blake Christian on the Zero Hour portion of the show.

In January, it was reported that Mortos had signed a deal with AEW and ROH but couldn’t take his longtime name with him. This was his first match for either company since December.

Here’s our full coverage from tonight’s show from Philadelphia.

Report: Black Taurus reaches deal with AEW/ROH

Black Taurus reportedly has a deal with AEW/ROH but it looks as though he won’t be able to use the Black Taurus name.

The situation involving Taurus was addressed recently by TheCubsFan of LuchaBlog.com

Taurus first adopted the name in 2015 while wrestling with AAA and AAA owns the rights to it. After leaving the promotion the following year, Taurus used the name “Black Taurus” on independent shows and with Impact Wrestling.

As Black Taurus, he also appeared on television in Mexico for other promotions. He returned to AAA in 2018 and would wrestle in the promotion as Taurus and outside of it as Black Taurus. AAA reportedly had no objections to Taurus using the Black Taurus name until recently.

On December 15, Taurus wrestled El Hijo del Vikingo at ROH Final Battle and five days later wrestled Vikingo again on an episode of AEW Rampage.

Earlier this month, Taurus announced that he is now a free agent and would be continuing his career as Black Taurus in Mexico and the United States.

A translation of Taurus’ post reads:

Just to thank AAA and that from now on I will be an independent agent. black taurus continues his career in the USA and Mexico as a free agent and why not maybe see cmll?

According to LuchaBlog, Taurus has since agreed to a deal with the AEW/ROH.

“It may take a few days for you to read this same information behind a paywall, but this means (Taurus) got a AEW/ROH deal,” LuchaBlog wrote.

TheCubsFan continued to say he’s been told Taurus is expecting that he’ll have to modify his gimmick and name slightly when wrestling with AEW or ROH as a result of AAA’s objections.

“I’m told (Taurus) was prepared for that to be a possible outcome. I don’t know exactly what (Taurus) will look like or be called when you see him on TV again, but I’m expecting his name won’t have the word ‘Taurus’ in it,” LuchaBlog wrote.

Black Taurus thanks AAA, moving forward as a free agent

Lucha standout Black Taurus is moving forward in his career as a free agent.

On Thursday, Taurus sent out a tweet thanking Lucha Libre AAA and noting that he’ll be continuing his career as a free agent in both the United States and Mexico. Taurus teased that he may return to CMLL.

Taurus wrote:

Just to thank AAA and that from now on I will be an independent agent. black taurus continues his career in the USA and Mexico as a free agent and why not maybe see cmll?

Taurus hasn’t wrestled for CMLL since 2011.

The 36-year-old Taurus made his Ring of Honor debut last month, losing to AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo at Final Battle 2023. The two then faced each other again on the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Rampage that aired on December 22.

Dave Meltzer noted that the Vikingo vs. Taurus match performed better in the ratings than most Rampage main events have done as of late.

Another Mega title match with Vikingo defeating Taurus took place for AAA on Christmas night.

Taurus has also made regular appearances for Impact Wrestling in the United States in recent years.

Myron Reed to make Impact debut at Bound for Glory fallout tapings

A former MLW champion is set to make their Impact Wrestling debut later this month.

Impact Wrestling has announced that Myron Reed will debut for the promotion at their Bound for Glory fallout tapings on Sunday, October 22. It will be The Rascalz (Trey Miguel, Zachary Wentz & Reed) vs. Black Taurus, Laredo Kid & Juventud Guerrera.

The tapings are being held in Cicero, Illinois and will include a Lucha Libre Celebration. Taurus, Laredo Kid & Guerrera teaming together is part of that celebration.

Reed became a free agent this January. He held the MLW Middleweight Championship three times while he was with that promotion.

Miguel and Wentz have both wanted Reed to be part of The Rascalz in Impact Wrestling. He’s a member of the group on the indies.

The October 22 tapings are taking place the day after Bound for Glory. Josh Alexander vs. Will Ospreay has also been made official for the tapings. The Impact World Championship will be on the line in that match if Alexander wins the title from Alex Shelley at Bound for Glory.

Bully Ray vs. Black Taurus no DQ match added to Impact Wrestling

If you somehow had Bully Ray vs. Black Taurus in a no DQ match on your 2023 wrestling bingo card, that will hit this Thursday on Impact on AXS TV.

The bout was made following the events of last Thursday when both men were on opposite ends of a trios match where Ray, Moose & Brian Myers got a win over Taurus, Laredo Kid & Samuray Del Sol. Ray was eventually run off by the returning PCO.

Ray will be looking for his first singles win since a March victory over Tommy Dreamer at Sacrifice which was also the last time he competed in the singles division. While primarily a tag team wrestler, Taurus hasn’t had a singles win since last December over Anthony Greene.

In another newly-announced match, it will be Jessicka vs. Savannah Evans vs. Killer Kelly. Both Evans and Jessicka will be part of a four-way for Kelly & Masha Slamovich’s Knockouts Tag Team titles at this month’s Emergence streaming special.

This Thursday’s show will be the go-home for the following Sunday’s Impact x NJPW Multiverse United 2 pay-per-view.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • Eric Young vs. Kon (w/ Deaner)
  • Rich Swann & Sami Callihan vs. The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) in a no. 1 contenders’ tournament final
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. KiLynn King (w/ Taylor Wilde)
  • Bully Ray vs. Black Taurus in a no DQ match
  • Killer Kelly vs. Jessicka vs. Savannah Evans

New tag team match added to Impact Wrestling

A new tag team bout has been added to Thursday’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV as The Good Hands (John Skyler & Jason Hotch) will take on Decay (Crazzy Steve & Black Taurus).

There is no real backstory to the match other than both teams jostling in get into position for a future Tag Team title shot.

Skyler and Hotch will be looking for their first win in Impact as a team and are coming off a handicap match defeat to Frankie Kazarian several weeks ago. Conversely, Decay is in search of their first win since August of last year (0-4).

The match joins a lineup with two title matches already announced:

  • Impact World Champion Steve Maclin defends against Rhino
  • Knockouts Tag Team Champions The Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde) defend against Jordynne Grace & Deonna Purrazzo
  • Frankie Kazarian sit-down interview, part three
  • Nick Aldis vs. Sheldon Jean
  • Masha Slamovich vs. Killer Kelly
  • The Good Hands (John Skyler & Jason Hotch) vs. Decay (Crazzy Steve & Black Taurus)

Black Taurus announced for PWG Battle of Los Angeles 2022

PWG has made their fifth talent announcement for the 2022 Battle of Los Angeles tournament.

The promotion has announced Black Taurus as a participant in BOLA 2022. He joins Lio Rush, Alex Shelley, JONAH and Kevin Blackwood on the list of tournament entrants. Taurus also competed in the 2019 Battle of Los Angeles, losing in the first round to Darby Allin.

Black Taurus, an Impact Wrestling and AAA regular, made his PWG debut in July 2019. He challenged Bandido for the PWG World Championship at this year’s Mystery Vortex 7 event in August, then competed for the vacant PWG Tag titles at September’s Threemendous VI event in a match won by Malakai Black and Brody King.

2022’s Battle of Los Angeles will take place on Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30 at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles, California. It will be the sixteenth edition of the tournament, and the first since 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic did not allow for a 2020 or 2021 edition.

PWG announces card for Threemendous VI

PWG has announced the card for their next show, Threemendous VI, on September 26.

Bandido will defend the PWG World title against Davey Richards, who in the last year has made a return to the independent scene. Richards is a former PWG World Champion, defeating Kenny Omega for the title back on February 27, 2010 at As The Worm Turns.

Malakai Black and Brody King will face Demonic Flamita and Black Taurus in a tag match that was set up at Mystery Vortex VII earlier this month.

Dante Martin of AEW will be making his debut on the show. Alex Zayne and Jake Atlas, who were released earlier this month from WWE, will be making their returns. A six man tag match has been announced, with Martin, Zayne, and Jack Cartwheel facing Atlas, Trey Miguel, and Myron Reed.

Black Taurus appears on Impact, joins Decay

Black Taurus appeared on tonight’s episode of Impact, joining Decay.

Taurus was introduced after XXXL (Acey Romero and Larry D), Kaleb with a K, and Tenille Dashwood came out, running down Decay (Rosemary and Crazzy Steve). Kaleb asked if any member of Decay would face him in a match tonight. Taurus answered the challenge and pinned Kaleb quickly with a spinning slam.

Later in the show, a six person tag match was made for No Surrender, with Rosemary, Steve, and Taurus teaming together to take on XXXL and Dashwood. That will take place this Saturday on Impact Plus.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taurus had made appearances in MLW, PWG, and in Impact Wrestling during the promotion’s television tapings in Mexico.

Taurus has been a regular for AAA, appearing for the promotion off and on since 2012. The promotion hasn’t ran any events since TripleMania in December due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, they recently started taping shows this past weekend that will air on television through March.

Black Taurus announced for PWG Battle of Los Angeles

The announcement comes after Taurus made his PWG debut at Sixteen last week. In a six-man tag match that has gotten great reviews from those in attendance, Taurus, Laredo Kid & Puma King took on Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus.

Taurus, Texano Jr., and a mystery partner will team against Psycho Clown, Cody Rhodes & Cain Velasquez at Triplemania XXVII this Saturday.

BOLA is taking place at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, September 19, Friday, September 20, and Sunday, September 22. Here’s the updated list of entrants:

PWG Sixteen results: Incredible six-man tag match

PWG’s 16th anniversary show took place at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles, California on Friday night.

– Trey Miguel pinned Andy Brown with a meteora off the top rope

Strong opener, particularly by Miguel. Brown is local and the crowd was hot for this.

– The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) defeated Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Barreta) by DQ

This was like a practice run for their All Out match on August 31. The match was very good. Great heat and a lot of cool moves.

It was very unlike a PWG finish. There was a strong face vs. heel dynamic and the Dark Order used low blows a few times when the ref was down. Trent finally used a low blow in retaliation — but the ref saw that and disqualified him. It’s probably building a program and PWG almost never does this type of finish.

– Darby Allin pinned MJF

MJF wore plaid trunks and a scarf which was in tribute to Roddy Piper since some people compare him to Piper. He got enormous heat in a way that nobody here gets. He ran down guys doing flippy moves and ran down the fans and said he was going to win with a headlock takeover. He tried it many times, including after a low blow, but Allin always kicked out.

Allin finally gave MJF a low blow and a headlock takeover and got the three. This finish worked huge. Great bout.

– Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus defeated Black Taurus, Laredo Kid & Puma King

Insane. People were saying this was the best PWG match since the famous Young Bucks & Adam Cole vs. Will Ospreay, Matt Sydal & Ricochet match a few years ago and I’d pretty much agree. So many dives and first time moves.

Bandido pinned Puma King with the 21-Plex. The place threw more money in the ring when it was over than I’ve seen thrown in a long time.

– Joey Janela pinned Jungle Boy with an elbow off the top rope

The crowd sees both guys as big stars now. Luchasaurus carried Jungle Boy to the ring on his shoulders. It was very difficult to follow the previous match but this was good.

– Brody King pinned David Starr with a ganso bomb

Good match but again once that six-man happened nothing was going to get the over-the-top reaction.

– PWG Tag Team Champions The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) retained their titles against LAX (Santana & Ortiz) in a ladder match

This was a great match. A lot of innovative stuff. Xavier climbed up the ladder and got both belts to win.

Tony Khan of AEW was at the show. He had been in town since midweek due to the Television Critics Association conference.
