Report: Black Taurus reaches deal with AEW/ROH

Black Taurus reportedly has a deal with AEW/ROH but it looks as though he won’t be able to use the Black Taurus name.

The situation involving Taurus was addressed recently by TheCubsFan of LuchaBlog.com

Taurus first adopted the name in 2015 while wrestling with AAA and AAA owns the rights to it. After leaving the promotion the following year, Taurus used the name “Black Taurus” on independent shows and with Impact Wrestling.

As Black Taurus, he also appeared on television in Mexico for other promotions. He returned to AAA in 2018 and would wrestle in the promotion as Taurus and outside of it as Black Taurus. AAA reportedly had no objections to Taurus using the Black Taurus name until recently.

On December 15, Taurus wrestled El Hijo del Vikingo at ROH Final Battle and five days later wrestled Vikingo again on an episode of AEW Rampage.

Earlier this month, Taurus announced that he is now a free agent and would be continuing his career as Black Taurus in Mexico and the United States.

A translation of Taurus’ post reads:

Just to thank AAA and that from now on I will be an independent agent. black taurus continues his career in the USA and Mexico as a free agent and why not maybe see cmll?

According to LuchaBlog, Taurus has since agreed to a deal with the AEW/ROH.

“It may take a few days for you to read this same information behind a paywall, but this means (Taurus) got a AEW/ROH deal,” LuchaBlog wrote.

TheCubsFan continued to say he’s been told Taurus is expecting that he’ll have to modify his gimmick and name slightly when wrestling with AEW or ROH as a result of AAA’s objections.

“I’m told (Taurus) was prepared for that to be a possible outcome. I don’t know exactly what (Taurus) will look like or be called when you see him on TV again, but I’m expecting his name won’t have the word ‘Taurus’ in it,” LuchaBlog wrote.

Black Taurus thanks AAA, moving forward as a free agent

Lucha standout Black Taurus is moving forward in his career as a free agent.

On Thursday, Taurus sent out a tweet thanking Lucha Libre AAA and noting that he’ll be continuing his career as a free agent in both the United States and Mexico. Taurus teased that he may return to CMLL.

Taurus wrote:

Just to thank AAA and that from now on I will be an independent agent. black taurus continues his career in the USA and Mexico as a free agent and why not maybe see cmll?

Taurus hasn’t wrestled for CMLL since 2011.

The 36-year-old Taurus made his Ring of Honor debut last month, losing to AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo at Final Battle 2023. The two then faced each other again on the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Rampage that aired on December 22.

Dave Meltzer noted that the Vikingo vs. Taurus match performed better in the ratings than most Rampage main events have done as of late.

Another Mega title match with Vikingo defeating Taurus took place for AAA on Christmas night.

Taurus has also made regular appearances for Impact Wrestling in the United States in recent years.

Cody Rhodes, MJF to make AAA in-ring debut next month

AEW stars Cody and MJF will be appearing at an upcoming AAA television taping.

It was announced that the two will be teaming up to take on Brian Cage and Taurus at a television taping in Aguascalientes, Mexico on 7/18. There is a backstory, as it was Taurus who attacked Cody when he made his initial debut for AAA at Rey de Reyes back in April, cementing the relationship between AEW and AAA. While MJF and Cody have competed in Mexico in the past, this will be the in-ring debut for both in AAA.

The main event of the TV tapings will be a trios match, with Dr. Wagner Jr., Pentagon Jr and Psycho Clown taking on Blue Demon Jr., Killer Kross and Rey Escorpion. As of this writing, this is the last television taping before TripleMania on 8/31, where Dr. Wagner Jr. will face Blue Demon Jr. in a hair vs. mask match in the main event.

The television tapings will stream live on AAA’s Twitch page with both English and Spanish commentary.
