AJ Francis re-signs with TNA Wrestling

AJ Francis is not leaving TNA Wrestling anytime in the foreseeable future.

The former Top Dolla was released by WWE in September 2023 and debuted for TNA at Hard to Kill 2024 the following January. On Tuesday, he revealed to Sports Illustrated that he has re-signed with TNA Wrestling.

Francis said:

“TNA has taken care of me over the last year. A year ago, I wasn’t the most sought after free agent. A year ago, people thought I wasn’t going to wrestle anymore. A year ago, people thought that my wrestling career might be done. And a year ago, TNA took me in for their very first show, Hard To Kill in (Las) Vegas. That was the very first night that I interacted with Joe Hendry. One year later, Joe Hendry’s the biggest star in wrestling. He can still send me a box of cigars for that whenever he wants.”

During the last year in TNA, Francis won the TNA Digital Media Championship and was the self-proclaimed Canadian International Heavyweight Champion during a program he worked on that culminated in PCO beating him for both titles at Slammiversary. He recently headlined TNA Final Resolution 2024, losing a TNA World title match to champion Nic Nemeth in the main event.

Francis was backstage at AEW Worlds End in Orlando this weekend, Fightful reported. He also mentioned to Sports Illustrated that he’d had offers from other companies but decided he wanted to return to TNA.

Francis continued:

“I always wanted to go back to TNA. Even though over the past week, I’ve made it clear that I could go anywhere. There were feelers out for me potentially going over to AEW, maybe going back to NXT because I never really got a run in NXT, maybe go back to SmackDown. Obviously going to Netflix for Raw would have been cool too. But there was a lot of options out on the table for me. TNA just feels like the best place for me. TNA has always since the day that I got there changed people’s perception of me. My last match in TNA was for the TNA World Title, an absolute banger of a match in the main event of Final Resolution against Nic Nemeth.”

“It’s funny because a year ago when it was announced I was coming to TNA, the discourse by TNA fans was, ‘Why is he coming? We don’t need him. What’s he doing here’? And then over the last week, when I was out here saying I might be leaving, it became, please come back to TNA. We love you at TNA. It’s been great the TNA. So it’s funny, what a year could change. A year can change everything. There was never anything that made me want to leave TNA.”

The last two weeks of TNA Impact have been “Best of 2024” compilation shows. This week, the promotion presents its first show of 2025, which will also mark the first TNA show to air on Sportsnet in Canada.

TNA Wrestling to air Best of Bound for Glory special this week

TNA Wrestling has announced that a special “Best of Bound for Glory” episode will air on Impact this Thursday.

The promotion’s scheduled TV tapings in Spartanburg, South Carolina this weekend were canceled due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene. TNA is now set to run its next set of TV tapings on Wednesday and Thursday this week from Nashville’s Skyway Studios.

Before this weekend’s tapings were canceled, TNA was advertising four segments for Thursday’s episode:

  • Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy vs. Ace Austin & Chris Bey
  • Steve Maclin & Eric Young vs. Judas Icarus & Travis Williams
  • Jordynne Grace, Masha Slamovich & Sol Ruca vs. Tasha Steelz, Rosemary & Wendy Choo
  • Ash by Elegance gives Heather Reckless a makeover

TNA is also building to this year’s edition of Bound for Glory on October 26 at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.

TNA Bound for Glory 2024 announced lineup:

  • Monster’s Ball match: TNA Digital Media and International Wrestling Champion PCO defends against Matt Cardona
  • TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth defends against Joe Hendry

TNA Wrestling cancels TV taping due to Hurricane Helene

TNA Wrestling has decided to cancel its TV tapings scheduled for Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The promotion twice postponed the event due to Hurricane Helene but sent an email on Saturday announcing the shows have been officially canceled.

“Due to the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Helene, TNA Wrestling is canceling both shows scheduled for Spartanburg, S.C. The safety and well-being of our TNA wrestlers, staff, crew and fans are top priority. TNA will provide an update on refunds for the Spartanburg shows, as well as an update on future/additional shows. We wish the best to everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene.”

As a result of the cancelation, Joe Hendry is now free to to make it to his House of Glory booking this weekend:

The tapings were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. On Thursday, they announced postponing the tapings to Sunday & Monday. Then on Friday, they pushed the tapings back again, rescheduling them for Monday and Tuesday before ultimately canceling them.

MLW also canceled its upcoming show in St. Petersburg on October 4 due to Hurricane Helene.

The Big Vinny V Show: TNA Impact with Nic Nemeth vs. Eddie Edwards

The Big Vinny V Show has returned with a look back at last Thursday’s TNA Impact.

With Rebellion in the rear view, it’s time to set the stage for next month’s Under Siege which means TNA is devoted to finding a new challenger for Mustafa Ali’s X Division title.

And so, they attempted to do so in a way only TNA would do and because it’s TNA, it still got screwed up.

Elsewhere, Nic Nemeth and Speedball Mountain are still feuding with The System, Frankie Kazarian is still feuding with Eric Young, PCO is still feuding with Kon, and Mike Santana is still feuding with Steve Maclin, as we are all left wondering what in the hell the point of Rebellion was.

At least the Impact main event was good because Eddie Edwards, in fact, can wrestle.

Ace Austin re-signs with TNA Wrestling

Ace Austin will remain with TNA Wrestling after signing a new contract.

Our Denise Salcedo broke the news Thursday in an interview with Austin, later confirmed by the promotion. The length of the deal was not disclosed, but Austin had previously signed a new multi-year deal in 2022.

The 27-year-old first debuted with TNA in June 2018 and wrestled there sporadically before signing his first contract there in 2019.

He won his first title in TNA at 2019’s Bound for Glory in a five-way ladder match for the X-Division title. After holding that belt for nearly six months, he had two shorter runs with the gold in both 2021 and 2022, both of which lasted less than two months each.

He found success in the tag team division with Chris Bey, holding the TNA Tag Team titles twice in 2023 and into 2024. They lost the gold to The System (Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers) at March’s Sacrifice.

Austin told Salcedo that the main reason he re-upped was the “freedom that doesn’t exist anywhere else. If I stay with TNA, my options are still open in the whole world.”

He said in addition to that aspect, he wants to pursue the TNA World title and do both stunt and acting work.

Matt Riddle says he’s had talks with TNA Wrestling

Matt Riddle says he’s had talks with TNA Wrestling.

Riddle was released by WWE in September and has since returned to MLW. He is also scheduled to make his NJPW in-ring debut later this month.

During an appearance on The Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast this weekend, Riddle mentioned that he’s spoken with several promotions since his WWE departure, including TNA Wrestling.

Riddle said:

When I got done with WWE, because it’s kind of stressful working on TV all the time, especially with the travel. The money’s awesome, it was definitely worth it, and the experience but now I kind of want to take a break from TV.

So, after the 90 days and during the 90s days I was setting some dates up. And I talked to some places, I’ve talked to TNA, I work with New Japan, I talked with MLW and we do film for TV but it’s not the same as Monday Night Raw, three hours live, anything can happen, people are changing the script here and there, hey you have 10 minutes for your match, now you have five minutes… it’s extremely stressful.

Now, I like the pressure but at the same time, I kind of wanted a little break from all that. So that kind of shows where I’m working now. I’m choosing places that are more pay-per-view based where I don’t have to worry about going to a commercial so we get that Fritos advertisement. Now I just get to do my body of work.

Riddle is set to make his NJPW in-ring debut on Friday, February 23, at The New Beginning in Sapporo. He is scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi on the first night of the two-night event.

Riddle has also wrestled with MLW since departing WWE last year. He took part in the promotion’s Kings of Coliseum event in Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena on January 6. He also wrestled on the MLW Reload tapings later that same night.

JNPO: Pro wrestling year in review finale – Worlds apart

The time has arrived to wrap up the Josh Nason’s Punch-Out 12-part pro wrestling year in review series with a stop in December.

Joining me for the first time as my co-host: the one & only Ibou of WrestlePurists.

And even though December ended three weeks ago, a lot happened that is worth dissecting, especially with two companies who ended the year worlds apart in many ways.

We talk about the final AEW event of the year: Worlds End, arguably the least well-received AEW PPV in their short history. Samoa Joe dethroned MJF for the AEW World title, Andrade El Idolo competed in his final match, and Chris Jericho had quite the day on social media. We discuss all that without wearing a ridiculous hat and sunglasses.

We also discuss the first full month of new WWE employee CM Punk which included his first two matches there in a decade, an indirect line about “Brawl Out” that fell flat with the live crowd, and an impromptu appearance at NXT Deadline.

We recap Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis diagnosis, the first rumblings about Okada leaving NJPW, the final month of Impact Wrestling before transforming into TNA, Andrade’s return to CMLL, and so much more.

I promise this is unlike any other year-end series you’ll hear or read, so catch up on the full series in the archive and my MMA year in review series as well. Thank you for your support of this endeavor.

Despite having several opportunities, Shaw has never held the Knockouts title. It’s unknown when she will challenge new champion Jordynne Grace who kicked off a new reign with her win over Trinity at the pay-per-view.

During the broadcast, TNA president Scott D’Amore and Pena came out on the stage which led to highlights of past TNA/AAA matches airing. Pena said he wants to bring more lucha libre to TNA before making his statement about changing wrestling.

The two promotions recently held a co-promoted show in Monterrey, Mexico, that was featured on Impact on AXS TV.
