Mistico returning from injury, AEW names set for CMLL Arena Mexico card

Mistico is officially set to make his in-ring return this Friday night.

After spending a couple of weeks on the sidelines due to a knee injury, Mistico said he hoped to make his CMLL return on the June 5 Arena Mexico card. That has now been confirmed with CMLL announcing that Mistico, Mascara Dorada & Neon vs. Zandokan Jr., Difunto & Furia Roja will headline Friday’s show.

The injury Mistico suffered happened during a May 17 trios match, and he appeared on CMLL’s Informa talk show last week with his knee in a brace. Mistico said he’s been doing physical therapy twice a day so he can return on June 5. It was noted during the appearance that Mistico has pending dates for both AEW and NJPW coming up. He is under a dual contract with CMLL/AEW and competes for NJPW through the partnership these promotions have. In NJPW, Mistico currently holds the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles with El Desperado.

AEW’s The Beast Mortos has officially graduated

After years of hard work and dedication, The Beast Mortos has now finally graduated to become a lawyer. For months now, the Mexican wrestler has been on his way to complete his studies and become a lawyer. Last year in June, 2025, Mortos completed his law school, and now, over six months later, he shared the news of his graduation.

In a heartfelt post on his social media, the AEW star shared an emotional note and uploaded pictures with his loved ones, including Mercedes Mone, to share and celebrate the news of his graduation. “What a great day today was, surrounded by my loved ones and sharing important moments with me.”

In another post, the masked luchador hid his face but shared images from his graduation ceremony, wearing the traditional robes, and wrote, “My graduation, I am officially a lawyer, another achievement in my life.” Shortly after uploading the pictures on social media, it was filled with well-wishes from several fellow pro-wrestlers and top AEW names.

One of the most active stars on the AEW/ROH roster, The Beast Mortos was last seen wrestling Bandido on the Dynamite New Year’s Smash episode.

Mercedes Mone and The Beast Mortos get cozy on first date anniversary

Mercedes Mone and The Beast Mortos have celebrated the anniversary of their first date, sharing the milestone with fans.

Often seen publicly together and very vocal about their relationship, Mortos posted an Instagram Story marking the occasion, featuring a photo of the couple kissing at a restaurant with a glass of wine on the table. Keeping with lucha tradition, Mortos hid his face in the picture with an emoji.

“Anniversary of our first date,” wrote the Mexican wrestler.

The couple has been openly affectionate on social media. Mone publicly confirmed their relationship earlier this year during an interview with TMZ after Mortos previously shared a photo of them.

Mone was previously married to Sarath Ton, a costume designer for WWE and former pro wrestler; however, they divorced back in 2024. Mortos previously wrestled under the name Black Taurus. He is currently pursuing a legal career alongside his role as a wrestler on All Elite Wrestling.

John Cena Sr. once encouraged Mercedes Mone in the indies

Recollecting a very old incident recently, John Cena Sr. opened up on the Best For Business podcast about how he had once encouraged a disheartened Mercedes Mone.

“I’ll give you another one that was one that I picked: Sasha Banks,” Cena Sr. said. “Where she is now? We can have a different story about that. Where she is now and where she was — I remember doing a show with her for Chris Setaro and Powerhouse Wrestling. And her mom was there and she said, ‘You know, I don’t know, maybe, I don’t know, I think I might give it up.’

“I said, ‘No! Don’t. You don’t realize what you have.’ She had so much ability, but, you know, it’s awful hard on the indies. It’s not an easy fight out there.”

Mone stood strong and transitioned herself into one of the most popular names in the business.

New Tag Team Champions crowned at ROH Final Battle

New ROH Tag Team Champions have been crowned.

Sammy Guevara and The Beast Mortos defeated Tommy Billington and Adam Priest to win the titles at Final Battle on Friday. With the win, Guevara now becomes a three-time ROH Tag Team Champion, while Mortos has won the title for the first time. The finish had Hechicero climb on the apron and interfere, allowing Guevara to hit a low blow on Billington and Mortos pinning him with a moonsault to become the new champions.

Earlier in the night, Hechicero approached Guevara and Mortos about working together in the Survival of the Fittest match for the ROH World Championship. The three came to an understanding that Hechicero would be in their corner for the Tag Team title match, then would look out for one another in the main event.

Guevara and Rush vacated the titles when it was announced that the latter would be out of action dealing with a knee injury. Rush was also set to challenge for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle and as a result, the match was changed to a Survival of the Fittest match that also includes Blake Christian and Komander.

ROH Tag Team titles vacated, plan for new champions revealed

New Ring of Honor Tag Team champions will come in just one week’s time.

Announced during Friday’s episode of ROH on HonorClub, it was revealed that due to Rush’s just announced knee injury, he and LFI partner Sammy Guevara had to vacate the titles. However, Guevara and new partner The Beast Mortos will get a shot against Tommy Billington & Adam Priest at next Friday’s Final Battle streaming special.

Rush and Guevara had a 92-day run with the gold after winning the then-vacant titles at August’s Death Before Dishonor, defending them just once. Priest and Billington have never competed in ROH as a traditional tag team, going 0-2 on AEW Collision against FTR. They have recently gone 2-0 in trios action with Jay Lethal as a partner.

Guevara and Mortos will be doing double duty in Columbus, Ohio, as both will also be in a six-way Survival of the Fittest elimination match for Bandido’s ROH World title.

CMLL notes: New NJPW Strong Tag Champions, Templario, AEW stars announced

Notes from Friday’s CMLL show in Arena Mexico.

New Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions were crowned when Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja defeated Templario and TJP to win the titles. Towards the end of the match, it appeared that Templario suffered a right leg injury and was unable to continue further. After the match was over, TJP raised the hand of the new champions, who posed with the titles.

Templario & TJP won the titles back in May, defeating the World Class Wrecking Crew at NJPW Resurgence. With the company choosing not to run any events in the United States in the second half of the year, the duo had mainly been defending the titles in Mexico leading to tonight’s match.

AEW talent was announced for next Friday’s event. Komander and The Beast Mortos will appear, though it is not known who their opponents will be. Meanwhile, JetSpeed will take on two thirds of the Sky Team, Mascara Dorada and Neon.

Friday’s event, the third sellout in as many weeks with over 16,000 attending, had a Linkin Park theme as banners were seen in the arena featuring members of the band. The main event had Atlantis Jr. and Neon defeating Volador Jr. and Hechicero.

Matches announced for next week’s AEW Collision Homecoming

New matches are set for next Saturday’s AEW Collision Homecoming.

The show, which will take place at Daly’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, already has six matches announced. One will see Kota Ibushi make his return, taking on Josh Alexander of the Don Callis Family.

Meanwhile, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens will team with one another once again, taking on Big Bill and Bryan Keith after words were traded. Despite teaming up together again, both noted in the segment that they have still not reunited as The Acclaimed.

After the Triangle of Madness attacked Toni Storm and Kris Statlander during their promo to hype their upcoming Wrestledream match, Harley Cameron came down for the save, setting up a six-person tag team match for Jacksonville. After Megan Bayne laid out Willow Nightingale, Bayne will team up with FTR to take on Nightingale and Jetspeed.

Mistico vs. The Beast Mortos announced for next AEW Collision

Mistico will be in action this Thursday.

Tony Khan announced that Mistico will be taking on The Beast Mortos this Thursday on AEW Collision. The show in Garland, Texas is being held on a special night as it will be the last AEW show before All In next Saturday.

“Before he enters the #AEWAllInTexas Casino Gauntlet Match this Saturday Afternoon, legend @caristicomx will collide vs the dangerous Beast Mortos this THURSDAY!,” Khan wrote on social media.

It was announced on this week’s show that the CMLL legend will participate in the men’s Casino Gauntlet match at All In. He’s also been embroiled in a feud with MJF, as the two faced off in a singles match at Grand Slam Mexico that Mistico won by disqualification after a MJF low blow and mask removal. After Mistico, Mark Briscoe, and Hologram scored a win on this week’s Collision, MJF and MVP appeared on the big screen taunting both Briscoe and Mistico ahead of the Casino Gauntlet.

AEW Collision lineup for Thursday, July 10:

  • Mistico vs. The Beast Mortos

The Beast Mortos headlining CMLL Arena Mexico card

AEW star The Beast Mortos is heading back to Arena Mexico this Friday night.

Mortos will headline Friday’s CMLL Arena Mexico show, teaming with Ultimo Guerrero & Averno against Mascara Dorada, Templario & Esfinge. Aside from his recent appearance at AEW Grand Slam Mexico, this will be Mortos’ first Arena Mexico match in nearly 15 years.

LuchaBlog notes that, from their understanding, Komander was originally slated for Friday’s show but is still out of action with an injury. AEW is instead sending Mortos as a replacement.

Because of how Mortos left CMLL for AAA in 2011, Tony Khan had to meet with CMLL director Salvador Lutteroth Lomeli and get approval for Mortos to work the June 18 Grand Slam episode of Dynamite at Arena Mexico. After getting that approval, Mortos posted a statement expressing how grateful he was for the opportunity. He also thanked his new girlfriend Mercedes Mone for being by his side and supporting him.

Friday’s semi-main event will see Titan & Neon take on Angel de Oro & Barbaro Cavernario. The show is airing live on CMLL’s YouTube channel for paying subscribers at the Campeon Mundial and Leyenda tiers.

The full lineup can be seen below:

The Beast Mortos thanks Tony Khan & Salvador Lutteroth for AEW Grand Slam Mexico appearance

The Beast Mortos thanked the owners of CMLL and AEW for his Mexico City appearance.

On Instagram, Mortos thanked both Salvador Lutteroth III and Tony Khan for his last minute appearance at AEW Grand Slam Mexico, saying it was the first time he’s stepped into the arena in 14 years.

“I can’t find the words to describe how blessed I am because last Wednesday something unexpected came into my life and my professional career. I stepped foot in the cathedral of wrestling again after 14 years, where this wonderful dream began. Not only that, I had the opportunity for my family (my mother, nephews, and my son) to see me for the first time in my career at a big event and in an arena like the Mexico City Arena,” he wrote.

“I also want to thank @tonyrkhan and Mr. Salvador Lutterot for the opportunity to make this possible and for this dream to continue,” he continued. “I also want to thank my special person who came into my life as a beautiful blessing and who was also there to support me. And of course, I’m grateful to all the fans who are always there supporting me. And above all, I’m grateful to God. Ecclesiastes 3:1.”

The “special person” may possibly be a reference to Mercedes Mone. The two made their relationship public last week.

Mortos filled in for Claudio Castagnoli, teaming with the Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta) and The Young Bucks to defeat The Opps, Swerve Strickland, and Will Ospreay.

The Beast Mortos teaming with Death Riders at AEW Grand Slam Mexico

Tonight’s featured 10-man tag team match at AEW Grand Slam Mexico now has a Beast involved.

Announced by AEW head Tony Khan on social media shortly before the event, The Beast Mortos will join The Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta) and the Young Bucks against Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland, and The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata).

Mortos replaces Claudio Castagnoli in the match who, according to Bryan Alvarez, isn’t hurt but was unable to make the show. It’s the latest good news in an already notable week for Mortos that included the revelation he is set to get his law degree and that he is dating Mercedes Mone.

It will be the 38-year-old’s first match in the famed Arena Mexico since June 2011 when he was known as Semental.

Mercedes Mone & The Beast Mortos confirm relationship

A new pro wrestling couple was revealed today with AEW stars Mercedes Mone and The Beast Mortos confirming that they are dating.

After Mortos shared a photo with Mone on Instagram, the TBS Champion confirmed their relationship to TMZ Sports, joking that it’s “a real beauty and the beast situation.” The two are in Mexico this week ahead of AEW’s Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite, where Mone will challenge Zeuxis for the CMLL Women’s Championship.

Mortos captioned his Instagram post with “En tus brazos encuentro paz” — which translates to “In your arms I find peace.”

Mone was previously married to Sarath Ton — a costume designer for WWE and former pro wrestler — but their divorce was finalized in 2024.

Prior to joining AEW, Mortos wrestled under the name Black Taurus. He is pursuing a legal career in addition to wrestling and is only a few months away from becoming a lawyer.

Dynamite is taking place at Arena Mexico this Wednesday night. If Mone defeats Zeuxis, she’ll add another belt to her collection in advance of challenging Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In on July 12.

Shelton Benjamin vs. The Beast Mortos added to AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash

Another Continental Classic match is set for Dynamite Holiday Bash.

During Rampage, it was announced that Blue League action would be taking place next Wednesday when Shelton Benjamin faces The Beast Mortos. Benjamin so far has three points, losing to Kyle Fletcher on last week’s Dynamite. After the loss, MVP told Benjamin that he was disappointed in him, leading to Benjamin taking out his frustrations on a backstage assistant.

Mortos, meanwhile, has yet to earn any points in the tournament thus far. Only Komander in the Gold League shares that distinction.

Kyle Fletcher currently leads the Blue League with nine points. In the Gold League, there is currently a three-way tie between Will Ospreay, Claudio Castagnoli, and Ricochet.

Here is the updated Dynamite Holiday Bash lineup:

AEW Dynamite (Wednesday, December 18) —

  • Continental Classic Gold League match: Will Ospreay vs. Darby Allin
  • Continental Classic Blue League match: The Beast Mortos vs. Shelton Benjamin
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Anna Jay
  • We’ll hear from MJF
