Dave Meltzer: AEW having multiple title challengers has ‘boosted interest’
Dave Meltzer addressed AEW’s recent booking on Wrestling Observer Radio.
In recent weeks on AEW programming, multiple top wrestlers such as Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Hangman Page, and the recently returned Andrade El Idolo have been vying for the AEW World title. Meltzer believes this has led to increased interest in the product.
Meltzer said:
“I do feel that this multiple championship challenger thing – cause Swerve is going to be back in the picture, obviously Andrade, Page. Omega will be back in the picture. Brody King is in the picture. There’s probably going to be others in the picture – that’s really boosted interest in AEW, I think there’s no doubt about that.”
AEW has been holding a mini-tournament of sorts in recent weeks. Andrade defeated Omega on Wednesday’s Dynamite to earn a spot in a number one contenders match against Hangman Page at AEW Grand Slam. King will challenge for the title on the same show after defeating MJF in an Eliminator bout in the main event of Dynamite last week.
