Thunder Rosa announced for Tokyo Joshi Pro Summer Sun Princess event

Thunder Rosa is set to return to Japan for Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling next month.

It was announced that Thunder Rosa would be making her return Tokyo Joshi Pro next month to face Miyu Yamashita. This will take place at the Summer Sun Princess 2022 event on July 9 at the Ota City Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo.

Rosa hasn’t been in Tokyo Joshi Pro since January 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the pandemic, she had to vacate the International Princess Championship that she held in October of 2020.

Rosa is the current AEW Women’s World Champion, defeating Britt Baker at St. Patrick’s Day Slam back in March. She most recently defended the title at Double or Nothing last month where she defeated Serena Deeb. She will next defend the championship against Toni Storm at Forbidden Door on June 26.

Thunder Rosa addresses allegations she ‘sandbagged’ Marina Shafir on AEW Dynamite

Thunder Rosa has responded to allegations she “sandbagged” Marina Shafir on AEW Dynamite last week.

Following the show, there were accusations made on social media and elsewhere that Rosa was uncooperative with her opponent in the match. During an interview with Ariel Helwani on Wednesday, Rosa was asked if these reports were true.

“No, and I’m going to say it how I said it in the New York Post, I have nothing but respect for my opponents, nothing but respect for my opponents. Anyone that dares to stay in the ring with me, I have nothing but respect to my opponents and I send them nothing but blessings.”

“Moving on forward, I will continue to work harder to have the best matches I can bring and to bring the most opportunities for all the women that are behind me.”

“People are going to talk and that’s fine, I’m not worried about that. I will continue to move forward and I will continue to show with my body of work what I am all about. That’s all I have to say.”

Later in the interview, Helwani asked Rosa if she respected Britt Baker and if Baker had respect for her.

“I have respect for my opponents, every single opponent I meet in there,” Rosa responded. “Every time we’ve been in the ring, we’ve been fine. We’ve had great matches.”

Rosa also commented on doing color commentary for Combate Global next month.

“I’m super excited because this is another face that people don’t see. I have done commentary in Spanish for AEW, now I’ve worked for Busted Open Radio, I do radio, and now I’m going to do commentary for MMA, which again I’m super ready to learn new stuff, to meet the fighters, to research about the fighters, just to get back in there and just feel it again. Combates Global has such a special place in my heart.”

Thunder Rosa reportedly sent home from AEW Dynamite due to illness

AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa was reportedly sent home from Wednesday’s Dynamite in Los Angeles due to not feeling well and not due to injury.

PWInsider reported Thursday that “word making the rounds is that Rosa was at the taping but wasn’t feeling well and was sent home to convalesce by the company’s doctor.”

Rosa didn’t confirm the report, but said on Twitter that she was taking a few days off social media. She added that she would be appearing on Friday’s Busted Open Radio as part of a new weekly one-hour segment.

That report came within hours of WhatCulture’s Andy Murray reporting that sources indicated to him that Rosa “has become frustrated with how little she has been on-screen” including this past Wednesday when there was no attention or focus on her title defense against Serena Deeb at Double or Nothing.

The report also stated she was frustrated to not be invited to the post-Double or Nothing media scrum so she could advertise the auctioning off of her ring gear to benefit the families of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting. Her gear that night honored the 21 victims.

Rosa will announce the auction on the aforementioned Busted Open appearance.

She said she considered herself on another level, in a class all of her own. She told Rosa at Double or Nothing, she would be taking the title.

Thunder Rosa vs. Nyla Rose title match set for AEW Battle of the Belts

The first match is set for AEW’s Battle of the Belts special airing on April 16.

In a bout announced during this week’s Dynamite, Thunder Rosa will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Nyla Rose.

Rosa won the AEW Women’s title in a steel cage match against Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. at the St. Patrick’s Day Slam edition of Dynamite on March 16. The following week, Rose attacked Rosa on the stage as Rosa was being interviewed to set up the feud.

Battle of the Belts will be taped the night before it airs as part of a live Rampage taping on Friday, April 15 at the Curtis Cullwell Center in Garland, Texas.

Rosa vs. Rose is the only match announced for Battle of the Belts to this point. On the first edition of the special in January, three matches aired, including a Sammy Guevara vs. Dustin Rhodes interim TNT title match, a Ricky Starks vs. Matt Sydal FTW title match, and a Baker vs. Riho Women’s title bout.

March 16 proclaimed ‘Thunder Rosa Day’ in Bexar County, Texas

March 16 is now “Thunder Rosa Day” in Bexar County, Texas.

Rosa defeated Britt Baker inside a steel cage to win the AEW Women’s World Championship on the March 16 edition of AEW Dynamite last month. The show took place in Rosa’s adopted hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

Rosa revealed on Tuesday that Bexar County, Texas has now proclaimed March 16 to be “Thunder Rosa Day” in commemoration of her title win.

Rosa’s Mission Pro Wrestling promotion will also be running a charity event to benefit The Salvation Army San Antonio on April 16. The show is titled “Living on the Edge” and funds raised will go specifically to after-school programs in the city’s Southside.

“That’s one of the parts of the city that needs the most help because of the socioeconomics that exist there,” Rosa said to KENS 5 News. “After school programs are so key for a lot of these kids because this is like a safe haven for them.”
