Darby Allin World title defense, Double Jeopardy match set for next AEW Dynamite

AEW World Champion Darby Allin will defend his title for the third straight week as part of next week’s three-hour combo edition of Dynamite & Collision.

Allin will defend against reigning TNT Champion Kevin Knight after telling him Wednesday that if he successfully defended his World title against Brody King, Knight would get the next shot.

Knight defended his own title against MJF in the opener while Allin defeated King, making the save for Knight after he was jumped by MJF.

The two have wrestled just once before with Knight picking up the November win as part of last year’s Continental Classic. Knight will defend his title against Hook on this Saturday’s Collision.

In a Double Jeopardy match, Dax Harwood will take on Orange Cassidy for the first time ever. If Harwood wins, FTR and Tommaso Ciampa earn a future AEW Trios title match where if Cassidy wins, The Conglomeration earn a future AEW World Tag Team match.

Midnight Express founding member Dennis Condrey passes away

Dennis Condrey, a founding member of the Midnight Express tag team, has passed away.

Dax Harwood made the announcement on social media that Condrey had passed away at the age of 74. He has started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral services. PWInsider reported his death shortly thereafter, revealing he had passed away on Friday evening.

“If Dennis Condrey and the Midnight Express ever brought any amount of joy to your life, and you’re able to help, please do. If not, it’s absolutely ok!,” Harwood wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Please send all your thoughts and prayers to Theresa Condrey in her time of need. God speed, “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey.”

The origins of the Midnight Express date back to 1980 when ‘Loverboy’ Dennis formed the stable with ‘Ravashing’ Randy Rose and Norvell Austin. A few years later in 1983 the group was dissolved when Condrey jumped to Mid-South Wrestling, where he formed a new version of the Midnight Express with ‘Beautiful’ Bobby Eaton and Jim Cornette, who served as their manager. This version of the team continued in Mid-South, WCCW, and eventually Jim Crockett Promotions.

In 1987, Condrey left Crockett and later reunited with Rose in the AWA. That version of the team later resurfaced in the new World Championship Wrestling promotion the following year, bringing in Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman) as their manager to feud with Cornette, Eaton, and ‘Sweet’ Stan Lane. Amid changes in ownership and a booking upheaval, the feud ended abruptly with Condrey leaving WCW in early 1989.

Condrey would continue wrestling on the independent scene through 2011. In 2023, AEW brought in Condrey and was given a tribute by FTR and CM Punk.

Matt Hardy takes issue with Dax Harwood’s comments on ‘5-star matches’

Matt Hardy and Dax Harwood got into an exchange on social media recently.

The root of the issue appears to be comments Hardy made on his podcast, saying that TNA needs to focus on stories rather than “five-star matches.” On the same day that story circulated, Harwood posted the below statement to X:

“I think, in wrestling, the older you get, the more you complain about ‘5 star matches’. I also think, the older you get, the more you (secretly) wish you had 5 star matches. Whatever a 5 star match even is.”

When someone suggested Harwood stop listening to our own Dave Meltzer, Harwood responded:

“I think calling Dave a moron is insane. He’s probably wrestling’s most accurate historian. While I may not agree with some of his star ratings, that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. That means he has a different opinion than I do; which is absolutely ok! To me, BrainBusters vs Hart Foundation SS 89 is a 5 star tag match. To Dave, it’s a 2. Who’s wrong? Who’s right? Who gives a fuck? As long as we all enjoy wrestling!”

On Wednesday, Hardy responded to Harwood, believing his comments about five-star matches were related to Hardy’s podcast remarks.

Hardy wrote:

“I think, on wrestling twitter, if you’re gonna decide to moan about someone’s take, you should @ them, @DaxFTR. I also think, the older I get, I give less than a fuck about what someone on the internet thinks a 5 star match is. What I care about what our matches are drawing at the box office & how they make people feel. I enjoy FTR’s work ethic & talent. I also think @AEW emphases “matches” more than “story/character/emotional investment” & it makes it challenging to grow your audience from a niche core – Which is MY opinion. I want AEW to succeed, it’s good for the industry. I love & enjoy great matches that get me emotionally invested. I don’t (secretly) wish I ‘had 5 stars matches.’
Whatever a 5 star match even is.
Who’s wrong? Who’s right? Who gives a fuck? As long as we all enjoy wrestling! (Your words in this same thread)”

Harwood then responded to Hardy:

“Matt, I have no idea what you’re talking about, why you think this is about you, or why you’re so upset with me. I’ve only EVER had good things to say about you & your brother and what you’ve meant to tag team wrestling. I thought, until today, we always had a great relationship.”

As of this writing, that is the last public message between the two of them.

While several of The Hardys’ matches against Edge & Christian and The Dudley Boyz were rated four and three-quarter stars or four and one-half stars, Matt Hardy has never had a five-star match. Harwood has had seven matches ranked five-stars or greater, including FTR’s dog collar match against The Briscoes that was given five and one-half stars.

FTR win Tag Team titles at AEW Full Gear

New AEW Tag Team Champions have been crowned.

FTR are now three-time AEW Tag Team Champions, defeating Brodido at Saturday’s Full Gear event. In a wild back and forth match, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler managed to isolate Bandido after hitting Brody King with a piledriver on the apron. Bandido attempted to fight back, but eventually found himself outnumbered and accepted his fate as he took the shatter machine, giving FTR the win and tying with the Young Bucks for most AEW Tag Team title reigns.

In the weeks leading to Full Gear, FTR and Stokely Hathaway had focused on Bandido and his family, insulting his grandmother and Bandido’s brother Gravity during shows. At one point, FTR attacked Gravity while the champions were stuck in a locked room, with Stokely guarding. Eventually Brody King burst through the door and managed to escape.

Brodido had held the titles for 90 days, originally winning them from The Hurt Syndicate in a three-way match at Forbidden Door that also involved FTR. During their time as champions, they defended against the likes of Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita and also defended the titles in CMLL. Bandido remains the ROH World Champion.

FTR comment on possible AEW training center

Helping train wrestlers is something that interests FTR, especially in the future when they have more time.

A report emerged from Fightful last month saying that an AEW-affiliated training center in Asheville, North Carolina had been considered by Tony Khan. Adam Copeland, Beth Copeland (Beth Phoenix), and FTR — who all live in Asheville — would have been the trainers. The original report said there were rumors that AEW decided not to move forward with the idea due to the costs involved, but Khan later clarified that he’s still interested in the possibility.

FTR were asked about the possible training center during a new interview on the Battleground podcast.

“Training is something that I’m very, very, very interested in — something that I love doing,” Dax Harwood said. “We did have a few guys and girls come to Asheville from AEW. They were doing very well. We were working with Sting’s son as well. You know, it is something that is an itch that training will scratch for me. And I hope to one day be able to do that. If it’s with AEW, that would be even better. So we’ll see.”

Cash Wheeler added that, with FTR’s schedule in AEW being so busy, there are weeks where they aren’t home in Asheville for too long before heading back out on the road again.

“Right now, honestly, especially for us, most weeks we do Dynamite and Collision. That’s four days on the road or so given at that point. And then you count pay-per-views or international tours,” Wheeler said. “Like, we got Newark this week for Full Gear and then we got Cardiff and everything coming up in December. So there’s no set schedule for us ever, and it’s a lot of weeks where it’s up in the air where you’re just not home enough at all. So it might be easier for us once we’re a little more part-time also.”

Though FTR are good friends with the Copelands off-screen, they’re rivals with Adam Copeland in AEW at the moment. Harwood and Wheeler laid out Beth with a piledriver back in September at All Out. Adam has been away from TV since shortly after that as part of the angle.

Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view card in Newark includes an AEW Tag Team title match with FTR challenging Bandido & Brody King.

Dax Harwood praises young AEW talent: ‘Will be a big star for us’

Dax Harwood has nothing but praise for one young AEW star.

Speaking on the Beyond the Bell Podcast, the multiple time tag team champion said that Kevin Knight could be one of AEW’s bigger stars in the next few years, saying FTR’s chemistry with JetSpeed compares only to one of their top rivals back in their NXT days.

“I’ll tell ya, JetSpeed….I text Chad Gable, I said, we have more chemistry with JetSpeed than anybody else we’ve had since we wrestled American Alpha. I think Kevin Knight is going to be our main event ace,” he said. “I’ve never been with someone in the ring who knows ring positioning, who is as smart as he is, who knows timing…I could say a million good things about him, but he will be a big star for us in about three to five years.”

Knight, 28, made his debut in 2019 and started training at NJPW’s LA Dojo the following year. He signed with AEW earlier this year and began teaming with Speedball Mike Bailey. The two have been feuding with FTR in recent weeks, recently costing them a match against the Bang Bang Gang on Collision.

Both Knight and Bailey will take part in a Casino Gauntlet match to crown the first-ever AEW National Champion at AEW Full Gear later this month.

Dax Harwood says he and his family have been targeted by a stalker

Dax Harwood says his family is being targeted by a stalker.

The AEW star took to Instagram to say someone on the platform has been targeting himself and his family. He and AEW are now working with authorities to address and deal with the situation.

“Unfortunately, over the last year & a half, myself, my mom, & now my wife have all been either stalked, threatened, or verbally attacked by an individual on Instagram. AEW & I will be working with authorities to put this matter to rest,” he wrote. “They know your name, who you are, and where you live.”

“Please be fans, but leave it at that,” he continued. “I try to be as polite as I can to people waiting in hotels and airports, and even ignore the ones that hate me. However, when you bring my family into it, we have to draw the line.”

Wrestlers in both AEW and WWE have been vocal on social media about aggressive fans. CM Punk recently took to social media to ask fans not to follow him around in airports and hotels. Rhea Ripley was also in an incident earlier this year where she was swarmed by a group of fans pushing against the door of her Uber.

AEW wrestler claims injury won’t keep him off All Out card

Dax Harwood is claiming he has a broken nose after a microphone shot to the face on Wednesday, but will not miss this Saturday’s AEW All Out.

During September to Remember, the FTR team member was bonked in the face by Christian Cage, preceding a skirmish between himself, Cash Wheeler, Cage and Adam Copeland that followed a face-to-face talk ahead of their anticipated match Saturday.

Harwood was visibly bleeding from his nose after the two teams were separated.

Seen below, Harwood took to X on Thursday to say he had an X-ray Thursday and “To the shock of no one, I have a severely broken nose” before saying he will not miss Saturday as he will “embarrass” Copeland and Christian.

It’s unknown if the injury is a work or shoot. Tony Khan did not mention the injury or anything related during his media call Thursday.

A preview of the Trios Championship set for Dynasty is part of this week’s AEW Collision lineup.

AEW Trios Champion Wheeler Yuta will face Rated FTR’s Dax Harwood in singles competition on the Saturday, March 29 Collision. The match was announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite.

AEW Collision live results: Cope vs. Big Bill, Chris Jericho vs. Dax Harwood

AEW heads to Athens, Georgia, for tonight’s live Collision which will see several champions in non-title action.

Former TNT Champion Cope (Adam Copeland) will take on Big Bill after the two were involved in a trios match last Saturday. It will be Cope’s first singles match since May’s Double or Nothing when he fractured his tibia.

In another match coming out of that trios bout, Ring of Honor World Champion Chris Jericho will battle FTR’s Dax Harwood in a non-title match. The last time they went one-on-one, Mike Tyson was special guest enforcer.

Another non-title bout will feature AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May against Harley Cameron. They have squared off once with May leaving victorious.

In two matches made Saturday afternoon, AEW Trios Champion PAC will take on reigning ROH TV Champion Komander while PAC’s partners Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta will face the upstart Outrunners.

Join us for live coverage at 8 PM Eastern.

**********

Collision began with words from Harley Cameron, Mariah May, Rated FTR, & The Learning Tree. Sir Elton John played us into the show. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

Cope defeated Big Bill

This was a very good return to singles action for Cope, as he and Big Bill had a quality opener here. However, I wouldn’t have had the guy stepping up to Jon Moxley use a low blow to beat a guy at Big Bill’s level. It felt cheap, as it took away from a quality match and victory here. I also would’ve just had Harwood vs. Jericho start here since they were both already out there.

Ring of Honor World Champion Chris Jericho was on commentary to support his student Big Bill. Bill took Cope to the floor quickly, but Cope drove Bill into the steps and pinballed him around ringside. Cope drove Bill into the announce desk to Jericho’s chagrin, but Bill came back with a big boot. Bill clubbered on Cope around ringside as we went to a commercial.

After the break, Cope fought from underneath to take Bill down, scoring a nearfall with a Northern Lariat. Bill came back with a big Boss Man Slam for a nearfall. I didn’t even mean to do that on purpose. Bill called Jericho over to provide a distraction as he ripped the turnbuckle pad off, but Cope avoided a Snake Eyes into the buckle. Both men went to the top rope, and Cope pulled Bill’s head into the exposed buckle before hitting a powerbomb for a nearfall.

Cope went for the Spear, but Bill moved, and Cope hit the turnbuckle. Bill followed up with the Big Boot for a nearfall. Cope countered a chokeslam with an Impaler DDT and cut the Redwood in half with a spear, but Bill kicked out to a big reaction from the crowd. Bill goozled Cope, but Cope pushed the referee out of the way and kicked Bill in the groin before hitting another spear. Cope hit the trademark Moxley hammer-and-anvil elbows before choking Bill out for the win.

Jericho & Bryan Keith jumped Cope after the match, but FTR ran down to make the save. Dax Harwood will take on Chris Jericho later on in the program.

We got a video package for Kenny Omega ahead of his return to AEW action against Brian Cage on Dynamite.

Hangman Page Speaks

Hangman Page was sulking in the back, as per usual. He talked about how he tried to protect his family from the issues that fame brought, and that in one night, it was all taken away. He was ashamed of the incident and was ashamed that he allowed it to happen. He decided to do something about it and made sure that Swerve Strickland lost the World Title, took his potential family home away, and all but spilled his brains out in front of the world.

Page turned his attention to Christopher Daniels, who he humored for a long time because Daniels was the first star of substance to see something in Page when he was young. But Daniels crossed the line and put his hands on Page last week on Collision, so Page promised to make him pay next week on Collision in a Texas Death Match. Daniels made his bed, and Page would lay him down in it.

PAC defeated Komander (w/ Alex Abrahantes)

This was a very good showcase for Komander, who PAC had real trouble with before giving himself the slightest of openings and snatching on the Brutalizer. I may have thought about giving Komander the win to set up a trios title challenge, but I understand keeping the Death Riders strong.

The two went speed-for-speed to start before Komander hit a wacky headscissors over the ropes. Komander hit the ropewalk dive to the floor, following it up with a springboard crossbody for a nearfall. PAC shut Komander down and took him to the floor, where he got in his former Death Triangle associate Abrahantes’ face. PAC booted Komander in the ring before sliding out and getting his hands on Abrahantes, but the distraction allowed Komander to do a step-up moonsault to PAC on the floor.

Back in the ring, Komander hit a wild X-Factor before hitting a tilt-a-whirl DDT for a nearfall. Komander went for a step-up moonsault, but PAC cut him off and hung him up on the ropes. PAC went up for the Black Arrow, but Komander rolled away. Komander caught a charging PAC with a pair of superkicks, then hit a step-up Destroyer. Komander went for a 450 Splash, but PAC got the knees up and snatched on the Brutalizer for the win.

After the match, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta made their way to the ring, with the announcers talking about how Castagnoli wanted payback after Komander’s Christmas Dynamite upset over him. The Outrunners made the save for Komander, and this time, the upcoming match started right then and there.

Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) defeated The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd)

This was the best straight-up tag match I’ve seen the Outrunners have in their AEW run, as the crowd was hot for them here against a main event act in the Death Riders.

The Outrunners worked over Yuta until Castagnoli knocked down Floyd from the apron. Castagnoli worked over Floyd until he got caught with a Thesz Press. The Outrunners knocked Castagnoli & Yuta to the floor as we went to the commercial break.

After the commercial break, the Death Riders were working over Magnum, scoring a nearfall with a Hart Attack. Magnum fought for the tag and eventually got it to Floyd, who ran wild with bodyslams. They hit the Predator Elbow on Yuta, but Total Recall got cut off. Yuta sent Floyd into the ropes, where Castagnoli hit an uppercut for a nearfall.

We got a pinning predicament with Yuta and Floyd, ending with Floyd stuffing a Seatbelt attempt for a nearfall. Castagnoli screamed at Yuta to finish the match but got annoyed and dragged Yuta to the corner to force a tag. They hit the Giant Swing dropkick, but a bit of confusion on the legal man allowed Floyd to break the cover. A Yuta cutoff allowed Castagnoli to drop Floyd with a Gutwrench Superplex, and a Rocket Launcher got the win for the Death Riders.

We got a commercial hyping all of the matches on Dynamite: Maximum Carnage on Wednesday.

We got a promo from Powerhouse Hobbs ahead of his AEW World Title match on Dynamite. He said that everything Jon Moxley wanted was standing in front of him, as Hobbs took initiative and won the Casino Gauntlet Match to earn a World Title shot. Hobbs said that he had been shot, stabbed, and left for dead. Moxley couldn’t do anything to him, and he would make Moxley his b***h.

Non-Title Match – Mariah May defeated Harley Cameron

AEW may have a prospect with Harley Cameron. She’s very charismatic, and she did well here against the World Champion.

Cameron has new music, which was probably urging fans to feel the wrath of Harley Cameron. Cameron went for some flash pins, but May shut her down with a headbutt. Cameron came back with a Russian leg sweep and an enzuigiri for a nearfall. May came back with a shotgun dropkick as we went to commercial.

May was still in control when we came back from commercial, scoring a nearfall with a headscissors off of the top rope. Cameron came back with a hairmare before running wild with strikes. Cameron hit a pumphandle back suplex for a nearfall. Cameron stuffed the Storm Zero with a jackknife for a nearfall, but May came back with a running knee and a Storm Zero for the win.

We got a promo from Christopher Daniels. He never came to Hangman Page as an official, but as a friend. He watched as Page went through the worst year of his life, and watched as the rest of Page’s friends deserted him. He tried to help Page out but was only met with violence. Daniels was angry that Page asked what he had done in the business, running down his resume as a former AEW World Champion and an architect of two separate wrestling promotions. He was AEW before AEW existed, and he would add beating Hangman Page to his resume.

Brody King (w/ Julia Hart) defeated Trevor Blackwell

King quickly handled Blackwell, beating him with a Gonzo Bomb.

After a commercial, Brody King & Julia Hart were backstage with Lexy Nair. He was interrupted by Cope, who said that he respected King after their run-ins over the last year. Cope said that it was time for King to take the reins and run.

TNT Championship Match – Daniel Garcia (c) defeated Katsuyori Shibata

This was a great defense for Garcia here. He tried to match Shibata at Shibata’s own game, and while Shibata remained a step ahead of him for most of the match, Garcia was able to outwrestle The Wrestler and get a win with his signature Jackknife cradle. I would have main evented the show with this to signal that the TNT Title is worthy of main eventing an episode of TV.

Matt Menard joined commentary for Garcia matches, as usual. The commentary brought up how due to the inclement weather in Georgia, Garcia had to get ready in the taxi on the way from the Atlanta airport. They questioned if Garcia’s lack of warm-up would cost him here in this championship match. Garcia and Shibata traded chops to start, with Shibata winning the exchange and hitting the hesitation dropkick in the corner.

Garcia made his comeback after the break, with he and Shibata trading inside cradle attempts for nearfalls. They went to trading boots and back suplexes before Shibata laid Garcia out with an STO. They both sat back up before Shibata won a chop exchange and locked in a Cobra Twist. Garcia hit a Dragon Screw leg whip and tried an ankle lock before Shibata countered it. A Dragon Tamer got countered into an Achilles Lock and a Figure Four from Shibata.

Garcia got to the ropes and ducked a Penalty Kick, but Shibata stuffed another Dragon Screw and popped Garcia with an open-hand slap. Shibata pulled Garcia into a hold, but Garcia caught Shibata with a jackknife cover for the win. The two shook hands and raised each other’s hands after the match.

We got a video package hyping the Women’s Casino Gauntlet on Dynamite, narrated by Renee Paquette.

Chris Jericho defeated Dax Harwood

This was a decent Jericho match with a sloppy and cold finish. I would had Cope vs. Big Bill in this spot instead. The post-match angle was why this match was the main event, with the Rated FTR/Learning Tree TV feud tying into the bigger Rated FTR/Death Rider angle. They did a good job of setting Hobbs up as a challenger for Moxley, having Moxley show a semblance of fear against the big man.

Jericho and Harwood locked on a collar-and-elbow tie-up and went all across ringside with it before re-engaging in the ring. Harwood went after Jericho’s leg after a deep Dragon Screw leg whip, wrapping the leg around the ringpost before Jericho yanked Harwood into the post. They fought around ringside again before Harwood hit a brainbuster in the ring for a nearfall. Jericho came back with chops before hitting a top rope hurricanrana into the commercial break.

Jericho had control coming out of the break before Harwood rolled through a high cross for a nearfall. Jericho couldn’t lock on the Walls of Jericho, so he catapulted Harwood into the corner buckles before hitting a Lionsault for a nearfall. Harwood hit another Dragon Screw, but Jericho sent Harwood into the corner post. After a near-slip in the corner, Harwood hit a superplex to lay both men out in the middle of the ring.

Harwood and Jericho laid into each other with chops before slapping each other down. Jericho rolled to the floor and went to use the title belt, but Harwood knocked him down on the outside. Jericho shoved Harwood into the stairs and laid him out with a Codebreaker. Harwood beat the count back in and fought off another Walls of Jericho attempt to lock on a Sharpshooter.

Jericho got to the ropes, and as the referee was dealing with Harwood, Jericho went for a belt shot and missed. Jericho popped the referee in the eye and moved out of the way of a diving headbutt. Jericho hit Harwood with the ROH Title but got a long nearfall out of it. Jericho landed the Judas Effect for the win.

After the match, the rest of the Learning Tree ran out to beat down Harwood. Cope & Cash Wheeler ran down to make the save before the Death Riders made their way to the ring to handle FTR & Cope. The Outrunners came down to even the numbers, and most of the guys fought to the floor.

Cope laid out PAC with a spear, but Jon Moxley appeared and dropped him with a Paradigm Shift. Marina Shafir brought two chairs to set up a Con-Chair-To to Cope before Powerhouse Hobbs made his way to the ring, bursting through all of the heels on the floor. He went face-to-face with Moxley before laying out Castagnoli with a spinebuster. Moxley hit Hobbs with a chair, but Hobbs didn’t budge and knocked the chair out of Moxley’s hands. Hobbs chased Mox to the outside before Shafir cut Hobbs off. Wheeler Yuta went to jump Hobbs, but Hobbs put him through the announce table with a uranage. Hobbs motioned for the title as the show went off the air.

During this match, it was announced that all three members of The Hurt Syndicate would be in action against tag team champions Private Party & Mark Briscoe on Dynamite.

Cope’s return to singles action part of AEW Collision lineup

A non-title match featuring AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May, a bout between two former AEW titleholders, and a first time ever clash have been announced for this Saturday’s Collision.

After they squared off as part of a trios bout last Saturday, Cope (the former Adam Copeland) will take on Big Bill for the first time ever. It will be Cope’s first singles match since he fractured his tibia in a barbed wire cage match with Malakai Black at last May’s Double or Nothing.

In another match coming out of that encounter, former AEW World Champion and current ROH World Champion Chris Jericho will take on former AEW Tag Team Champion Dax Harwood in a non-title bout. It will be their second-ever singles match and the first since an April 2021 match that featured Mike Tyson as special enforcer.

Reigning Women’s Champion Mariah May will take on Harley Cameron after Cameron challenged her in her own unique way on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Here’s a look at the current announced lineup from Athens, Georgia:

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May vs. Harley Cameron in a non-title match
  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho vs. Dax Harwood in a non-title match
  • Cope vs. Big Bill

  • AEW’s X account has now surpassed one million followers.
  • Dax Harwood reflected on this 20-year anniversary in the pro wrestling business: “Today, 20 years ago, I wrestled my very first professional wrestling match. Friday the 13th, 2004. I’m trying to wrap my mind around it. 20 years?! I remember as a kid watching Bret Hart win the 1993 King of the Ring. I told my mom, I wanted to be a wrestler when I grew up. I was obsessed. I remember as a kid, walking to my friend’s house, passing a long stretch of bushes, and high fiving every leaf on the way, as if they were each a fan of mine, hoping one day that amount of people would love me. I remember as a kid, every single night, praying that God would allow me to become “a WWF, WCW, or ECW champion”. I remember as a kid having over 500 posters hanging on my walls and ceiling of all my favorite wrestlers in hopes of one day having a poster of my own. And it’s all lead to this. 20 years.”
  • Thunder Rosa showed appreciation for Dustin Rhodes: “I love you @dustinrhodes. You had been my ride or die since I started in @AEW you are the most kindhearted and real mentor I’ve had ever had. I’m blessed every day to call you a friend.”
  • Jesse Ventura talked to NewsNation on his current thoughts on the upcoming US elections.
  • An Opera Cup match between Alex Kane and Bad Dude Tito has been added to MLW Summer of the Beasts on August 29.
  • Mike Santana paid tribute to Homicide on X after the two faced off two weeks ago: “This one meant a lot to me for many reasons. Homicide has been a true constant in my career going all the way back to my beginnings in wrestling. 2 weeks ago, I got to fight with him for the last time in his hometown of Brooklyn, NY. For what was a true passing of the torch moment that will be with me forever. This vid is a thank you to him for his contributions to this crazy biz and what he’s done for me and so many others. Cheers to an amazing career. Thanks for trusting me with the throne.”
  • Ella Envy has signed an NWA contract.
  • Maple Leaf Wrestling has started to upload footage from their collection, including an early Bret Hart match from 1984.

Tuesday Update

WWE

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • NBC Sports reported that former WCW star Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael will be unable to travel to attend his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.
  • “Steve McMichael will not be able to travel to Canton, Ohio for his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction due to complications of ALS he has so valiantly fought the last three years,” McMichael’s family said in a statement. “The Hall of Fame is making plans for presenting his honor at his home. Steve and his family thank you for the fans’ ongoing support.”
  • Disco Inferno on X responded to Dax Harwood’s injury, writing “You just ruined your boss’s narrative that he will put their safety record up against anyone. If talent is working hurt and not telling the office, then it’s not a safe work environment. Bad look Dax.”
  • Harwood responded: “I know this is exactly what you’re looking for, because you beg for relevancy that you only got by being a punching bag your whole career, but you’re a f****** idiot. If you ever worked hard enough during your little 15 minute-of fame-career to ever feel any sort of pain, you’d know the anxiety that comes with injury to an athlete. So while you’re trying to turn this into a bit for your shitty podcast, I’m hoping & praying that I don’t have to go through an extensive surgery, or even worse. For being someone who claims to be so smart to our business, you’d probably know wrestlers have worked hurt for decades. Also, I’m 100% sure some wrestlers in WWE are working hurt right now, but of course you only decide to attack AEW…anything for the clicks. If anything, this does not go against the “safe working environment” that my boss promotes. It shows how dumb we as wrestlers are to hide this information from all the proper people put in place to keep us safe. How can this be anyone’s fault except mine? No one knew about the severity of my injury. And once I finally told Tony and Doc Sampson, they immediately MADE me take time off. Maybe one day, I can be on your podcast, but only if we do it live and face to face. I’ll fly myself wherever I need to meet you. Open invitation. Anyways…off to an MRI. While you’ll be talking about this for a segment of your show, I’m hoping the doctors don’t find out anything worse about my condition. Good day, Glenn.”
  • The Washington Post has an article on Bryan Danielson as he winds down his wrestling career.
  • AEW’s YouTube channel has an exclusive special look at Mina Shirakawa.
  • Cultaholic spoke to TNA’s Leon Slater, who mentioned names like Je’Von Evans, AJ Styles, and Trick Williams as potential future opponents.
  • “The one I’ve been seeing on socials a lot is me and Je’Von Evans,” he said. “I think even before Je’Von got signed we were being compared as kind of like two parallels on other sides of the pond. We’re both young, we both carry ourselves with this confidence, this kind of attitude. So I think me and Je’Von would be a very interesting matchup. Other than him, obviously the main man Trick Williams is someone I would like to mix it up with. As far as the main roster goes, I have to say AJ Styles, man, especially being on this side representing TNA now. I’d be super, super interested to mix it up with AJ, who really put TNA on the map.”
  • Anthony Bowens talked to Youngstown Studio.
  • AJ Mendez appeared at the premiere of Sacramento during the 2024 Tribeca Festival.
  • TNA announced that Against All Odds this Friday is sold out. Tickets for Impact tapings on Saturday are still available.
