First two men’s Owen Hart tournament participants advance at AEW Double or Nothing

Two have advanced in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland both made it to the next round during Sunday’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, getting themselves one step closer to a World title match at Wembley Stadium. Ospreay will next face the winner of the opening round match between Mark Davis and Jack Perry while Strickland will face whoever wins between Claudio Castagnoli and Brody King.

Ospreay was the first to advance at Double or Nothing, defeating Samoa Joe. The finish had Ospreay connecting with the hidden blade, only for Joe to kick out at one. Ospreay responded with a second hidden blade, this time scoring the pinfall win. For Swerve, the critical moment came when he reversed Bandido’s twenty-one plex and planted the ROH Champion with a vertebreaker. Swerve then pinned Bandido following the house call to pick up his victory.

Lots at stake in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament

The winners of both Owen Hart tournaments will move on to challenge the AEW World Champion and the AEW Women’s Champion respectively at All In, which takes place August 30 at Wembley Stadium.

Athena was the first to advance in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, defeating Mina Shirakawa on Sunday.

Adam Cole wins AEW men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament

Adam Cole may have been unsuccessful in defeating AEW Champion Hangman Page in two attempts, but his road back to redemption continued Sunday as he won the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Double or Nothing.

Cole won the first-ever men’s tournament by defeating Samoa Joe thanks to interference from Bobby Fish.

The end came when Fish ran down and attacked Joe’s injured arm by wrenching it over the top rope. Joe worked through it and avoided the Boom, locking in a rear naked choke. Fish, however, distracted Joe and he broke the hold. Cole eventually took Joe down with superkicks and hit the Boom to pick up the victory.

Cole’s road to the tournament win started with a victory over Dax Harwood and continued with his win over Jeff Hardy. Joe defeated Johnny Elite (Morrison) in the quarterfinals before defeating Kyle O’Reilly to advance to the finals.

AEW created the Owen tournament in concert with Dr. Martha Hart and her family as part of a greater partnership between both sides.

Brackets revealed during the show has  Cole facing Harwood, Fenix vs. O’Reilly, Hardy vs. Allin, and Joe vs. a mystery “joker” opponent. Cole vs. Harwood and Hardy vs. Allin will take place on next week’s Dynamite.

On the women’s side, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, Ruby Soho, and Britt Baker have qualified. The final qualifying match, Yuka Sakazaki vs. Riho, will take place on Rampage this Friday.

Both tournament finals will take place at Double or Nothing on May 29 in Las Vegas.

Men’s AEW Owen Hart Foundation Tournament bracket revealed

With two more qualifying matches complete on Wednesday’s Dynamite, AEW revealed the full bracket for the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament but with a twist.

While only seven men have officially qualified, the eighth entrant will be a “Joker” — a wild card for a surprise entrant, something AEW uses in their Casino Ladder and Casino Battle Royale matches.

On the left side of the bracket, Rey Fenix will take on Kyle O’Reilly while Samoa Joe will face the wild card. Fenix qualified Wednesday with his win over Dante Martin.

On the right side of the bracket, Jeff Hardy will take on Sting while Adam Cole will face FTR’s Dax Harwood. Hardy qualified Wednesday with his win over Bobby Fish.

The men’s tournament will kick off on next Wednesday’s Dynamite with Hardy vs. Allin and Cole vs. Harwood.

The women’s bracket is expected to be revealed Friday as Riho takes on Yuka Sakazaki for the seventh spot.

The finals for both tournaments will take place at this month’s Double or Nothing.

Dax Harwood qualifies for men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Dax Harwood has now qualified for the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Harwood faced his tag team partner Cash Wheeler in the opening of tonight’s Dynamite. The two had a back and forth contest, with the match ending after Harwood reversed a cradle attempt by Wheeler, scoring the three count to advance.

The singles match comes as FTR have been on a hot streak, defeating The Briscoes to win the ROH Tag Team titles at ROH Supercard of Honor earlier this month. They also successfully defended both the ROH and AAA Tag Team titles against the Young Bucks on a recent episode of Dynamite.

Harwood joins Samoa Joe, Kyle O’Reilly, and Adam Cole in qualifying for the tournament, which begins next month. The finals will take place at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view on May 29.

Along with the men, a women’s tournament will also take place at the same time. Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, Ruby Soho, and Britt Baker have all qualified. Storm and Hayter are scheduled to meet in the first round.

Adam Cole qualifies for men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Adam Cole has qualified for the Owen Hart Foundation tournament that kicks off next month.

Cole defeated NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii to advance tonight on Rampage. The finish had Jay White, also of NJPW, appear on behalf of Cole, attacking Rocky Romero at ringside by throwing him into the steel steps. This distraction allowed Cole to low blow Ishii and score the win with the last shot.

Already qualifying for the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament are Samoa Joe and Kyle O’Reilly. Next week’s Dynamite will have another men’s qualifying match, with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR facing one another in a singles match.

Cole interrupted Tony Khan introducing NJPW’s president Takami Ohbari to announce the joint show between AEW and NJPW, Forbidden Door, for June 26 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. He announced that he would be facing Ishii on Rampage. Jay White then came out and said that it was still the Undisputed Elite and Bullet Club’s era.

Kyle O’Reilly, Britt Baker qualify for AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournaments

Kyle O’Reilly and Britt Baker have qualified for their respective AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournaments.

O’Reilly defeated Jungle Boy on tonight’s episode of Dynamite to qualify for the men’s tournament. He defeated Jungle Boy clean with a flying knee drop off the top rope. Baker, meanwhile, defeated Danielle Kamela by submission with the lockjaw.

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments begins in May and ends at Double or Nothing on May 29.

Baker was accompanied to the ring tonight by Najee Harris and Pat Freiermuth of the Pittsburgh Steelers. After she won her match, she cut a promo running down the women’s division and promised victory in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Samoa Joe was the first to qualify for the men’s tournament on the April 6 edition of AEW Dynamite, defeating Max Caster. The next men’s tournament qualifier will take place on this Friday’s AEW Rampage, where NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii will face Adam Cole.

In the women’s tournament, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, and Ruby Soho have all qualified.
