Jay White reportedly still not cleared to return to the ring
Image: AEW
Former AEW Trios Champion and former IWGP World Champion Jay White is still not medically cleared to return to the ring, according to a new report.
Fightful Select reported the news Wednesday, adding that he hasn’t been factored into any creative plans and “isn’t expected to be back imminently.”
During an August interview, AEW head Tony Khan said that White “is going to be out for a long time” without giving any further details.
White has been out of action since late-March 2025 after suffering a broken hand and also underwent shoulder surgery during his absence. The 33-year-old made a surprise appearance during last weekend’s Wrestle Kingdom 20 as part of Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement ceremony.
Both White and Colten Gunn are on the injured list for Bullet Club Gold, leaving Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn to team up in their absence.
White signed with AEW and made his debut as a contracted wrestler in April 2023. He missed three months in the summer of 2024 with a foot injury, returning in October.

- R-Truth told CBS Sports that he thinks it would have been a selfish move to continue going by Ron Killings instead of returning to his R-Truth character:
- It went where it was supposed to go. Ron Killings created R-Truth. Those hundreds of millions of fans who spoke and up-roared. They wanted R-Truth back. Ron Killings was the rebellious one who spoke up for R-Truth.
- Ron Killings has been around for years, but people had never come together in lockstep like that. They did that for R-Truth. You feel me?. I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made a statement; he had eyes on him. When John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings was the cavalry.
- I think [Ron Killings] was a selfish-type deal, more of a selfish move. I had more than 100 million views that wanted R-Truth. If numbers are real, that was the power of numbers.
- Bleacher Report and the New York Post also have interviews with Truth.
- In the Bleacher Report interview, Truth was asked who he thinks can be the next John Cena in WWE:
- Man, there’s a lot of guys. NXT is full of talent, man. Trick [Williams] is there, Carmelo [Hayes] is up here now, they got Je’Von [Evans], there’s so much talent there, man. I don’t want to, like, put no names or specific things on people, I like to just watch and let everything blossom and bloom. There’s a lot of things that a lot of people still have to pay attention to and see, as far as characters go, a lot of people still coming into their characters. But there’s gonna be guys, you’ll see another almost like Cena, you’ll see another almost like everybody else. But I don’t like to put no names on anybody, there’s a lot of them that you need to keep your eyes on.
- Chelsea Green told Woman’s World magazine that she and Matt Cardona want to have children one day, but plans to do so are paused at the moment:
- We put it on pause when I was asked to come back to WWE. This was an opportunity we both knew we could not turn down. If I turn it down, I’m going to end up having kids and resent the family life.
- So here I am. I’m 34. I’m dying for babies. My husband wants babies… but duty calls. I’m making money. I’m living my dream. But hey, you never know. In a couple months, if it happens, God willing, it happens. I’ll just have to take my babies on the road with me!

Tony Khan provides injury update on Jay White
An update on Jay White’s injury status.
On My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, Khan gave a sombering update on the former IWGP Champion, who has been sidelined for the last several months with a hand injury.
“Jay White is one of the best wrestlers in the world, and got injured along the way. He is out and unfortunately is going to be out for a long time,” Khan said.
White suffered the injury during a match against Kevin Knight in late March. He soon announced that as a result of the injury, wouldn’t be able to participate in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, where he was set to face Will Ospreay in the opening round.
Much of the Bang Bang Gang has been off television in recent months due to injuries, but at All In Juice Robinson returned from a broken leg, reuniting with the returning Gunn Club. Despite an injury to Colten Gunn that will keep him out of action, Robinson and Austin Gunn have been teaming in the weeks since, ultimately coming up short in a tournament to determine new number one contenders for the AEW Tag Team titles.
Jay White confirms he’s out of action with a broken hand
Jay White has provided an update on his status.
During AEW Collision, he confirmed in an interview that he is suffering from a broken hand and as a result is out of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. He addressed his replacement Kevin Knight, saying maybe he spoke too soon when he said this wasn’t Knight’s year in the tournament. He also briefly mentioned Will Ospreay, who he would have faced in the opening round. White finished his promo saying the Death Riders will regret ever crossing him.
While revealing the bracket for the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament on Dynamite, they announced that White was pulled from the tournament due to injury as a result of an attack by the Death Riders. When Fightful Select first reported the injury, it was expected he would undergo surgery.
“I heard that Jay White was injured,” Bryan Alvarez added on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. “I guess surgery, I just heard it was not expected he was going to be out a really long time, whatever that means. But he’s out, it’s a legitimate injury.”
Knight vs. Ospreay, Brody King vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe vs. Kyle Fletcher, and Hangman Page vs. a wildcard opponent are the first-round matchups in the tournament.
WOL: FUN FRIDAY with Lance Storm!
Wrestling Observer Live with Bryan Alvarez and Lance Storm is back with a FUN FRIDAY edition of the show talking all of the injuries in pro-wrestling right now, line-ups for the big weekend upcoming, ratings notes and what we can learn from NXT and Dynamite this week, your calls and more! A fun show as always so check it out~!
Jay White injury update after being pulled from AEW Owen Hart Tournament
Jay White hopefully won’t be out of action too long after being pulled from AEW’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament due to injury.
It was announced on Dynamite last night that White is unable to compete in the tournament. While the storyline explanation was that White had been taken out by the Death Riders in an unaired attack, Fightful reported that White has a legitimate injury and will need to undergo surgery.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he’s heard White’s injury is a broken hand. While a timeline for his return has not been reported, Bryan Alvarez has heard there is hope White won’t need to be sidelined for a really long time.
“I heard Jay White broken hand and surgery,” Meltzer said.
“I heard that Jay White was injured,” Alvarez added. “I guess surgery, I just heard it was not expected he was going to be out a really long time, whatever that means. But he’s out, it’s a legitimate injury.”
The newly signed Kevin Knight is White’s replacement in the men’s bracket of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The tournament winner receives an AEW World Championship shot at All In Texas this July.
Knight vs. Will Ospreay, Brody King vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe vs. Kyle Fletcher, and Hangman Page vs. a wildcard entrant are the first-round matchups in the men’s tournament. The women’s bracket has Jamie Hayter vs. Billie Starkz, Thunder Rosa vs. Kris Statlander, Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart, and Athena vs. Harley Cameron.
Jay White injured, out of AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament
Image: AEW
Just as Jay White was hoping to get into gear and challenge for the AEW World title at All In Texas after entering this year’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, the injury bug bit him at an unfortunate time.
During the reveal of the men’s and women’s brackets during Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Excalibur noted that White had been attacked by the Death Riders and he could no longer compete. No footage was shown to accompany the news.
That injury was not just a storyline as Fightful Select reported Wednesday night that White is legitimately injured and is expected to undergo surgery. The actual injury, the severity, and his timetable for a return is not yet known.
The 32-year-old picked up March wins over Max Caster and Kevin Knight, the latter of which came this past Saturday on Collision. Following last year’s Owen Hart tournament, White took time off due to a broken foot that kept him out for three months.
Fellow Bang Bang Gang member Juice Robinson is still on the injured list due to a broken fibula suffered during a match in last December’s Continental Classic while Austin & Colten Gunn haven’t been heard from since losing in an AEW Tag Team title match this past February after being out of action since September 2024.
AEW Collision live results: Mercedes Mone in action, Jay White vs. Kevin Knight
Tonight’s live AEW Collision from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will see the return of reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone.
It will be Mone’s first in-ring action since defending the title against Billie Starkz earlier this month and subtly taking a jab at ROH Women’s World Champion Athena afterward, leading to speculation of a future match.
Ahead of meeting in a match for the AEW Trios titles at Dynasty, FTR’s Dax Harwood will go one-on-one with Wheeler Yuta of the Death Riders.
Visa issues seemingly behind her, former AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter will return for the first time since late-January to battle Queen Aminata.
In what is effectively a Tag Team title eliminator match, Big Bill & Bryan Keith will take on Top Flight. Bill and Keith challenged the Hurt Syndicate for the titles Wednesday with MVP suggesting they need a win first.
After declaring for this year’s men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament on Wednesday, Jay White will compete against Kevin Knight.
**********
Collision is coming tonight from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sir Elton John opened up the show, as Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness are on the call as AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm made her way to the ring.
Toni Storm Town Hall
An effective opening segment setting up the women’s title match at the PPV. I would like a little explanation as to why Ford is sticking around with Bayne, as their partnership seemed to come together by happenstance more than anything. But they’ve made Bayne a credible threat to Toni. The question now is whether Bayne is a monster of the month or the new face of the division.
Storm said she loved Milwaukee but told Megan Bayne to get out there immediately. Bayne didn’t come out, so Storm took a spotlight and spoke. She was embarrassed, hurt, and ashamed that she got pinned by Bayne on Dynamite so easily. She replayed the scene in her head all night in her hotel room, wondering if that would be the scene at Dynasty. In the morning, she hit her head on the sink and remembered who she was. That would’ve been nice a few months ago.
She promised to beat Bayne at Dynasty before Penelope Ford jumped her. There was a very interesting camera shot here, as the camera was right next to the ropes, so we never saw Ford coming. Storm took out Ford, but Bayne laid Storm out with a lariat and a Fate’s Descent. Bayne stood tall with the Women’s Title and told Storm to bow down.
The Death Riders were in the back. Claudio Castagnoli challenged Cope to a singles match on Dynamite to get revenge for Cope taking him out. He said that Adam had lost his Edge and was just trying to Cope with it. I see what he did there. He promised to leave enough of Cope to destroy at Dynasty. Jon Moxley said that there were only three people in the world he feared – his mother, his sister, and his wife. That was until he met Marina Shafir. He felt like he and Swerve Strickland should sit back and watch Shafir and Willow Nightingale take each other on Wednesday. Shafir told Nightingale to try and smile after getting her liver ripped out. That’s a very specific organ. Will random intestines or a spleen work as well?
Jay White defeated Kevin Knight
White with a clean and tidy win in this opener. Knight got some shine here, and Tony Khan announced that Knight was All Elite, so we’ll be seeing more of him in the future. I think Knight has a ton of potential from his athleticism alone, and could develop into a player on the AEW roster in due course.
We got highlights of Knight in New Japan, as the announcers ran down his credentials as a New Japan Dojo graduate and a former IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champion alongside KUSHIDA. The announcers talked about both men’s similar backgrounds having been foreigners that trained in New Japan during the opening exchanges.
Knight scored with a headscissors, but White came right back with chops. White sent Knight to the apron and DDT’d his leg to hobble him. After a commercial, White chopped Knight off the top rope to the floor. White laid in more chops before Knight drilled him with a dropkick. Knight fired up, hitting a standing frog splash for a nearfall. Knight hit a headscissors that took White off the top rope, but White came back with a slick flatliner. White hit a big uranage before putting Knight away with the Blade Runner.
After the match, White took the mic and put Knight over, saying he believed we would see a lot more of Knight in AEW. The crowd gave Knight an ovation before he left. White said that he would show the world that he was the most elite because he needed his shot at the AEW World Title. He would show everyone it was still the Switchblade Era at All In.
The announcers reset things before throwing to video of MJF throwing the first pitch at the Texas Rangers Opening Day game, in the building where All In will take place. MJF noted that Bobby Lashley lived in Texas, but the Rangers asked for him instead.
We saw a picture of ROH Women’s World Champion Athena standing outside of Mercedes Mone’s locker room, with an accompanying tweet where she said that she might say hello to Mone tonight.
Non-Title Match – TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defeated Robyn Renegade
We got the long-awaited face-off between Mone and Athena here, and it went as well as they could have hoped. With Mone entering herself into the Owen, this is a perfect way to transition her from the TBS Title to the World Title without taking much steam off of her. With Dynasty being in a week, I think this match may be better served for Supercard of Honor in May with a Title For Title stipulation.
Renegade got a lot more offense in than I thought she would, but Mone moved out of the way of a moonsault and landed a Meteora for a nearfall. Mone put Renegade away with the Mone Maker and the crossface.
After the match, Tony Schiavone made his way into the ring as Mone had something to say. Mone called herself the greatest TBS Champion of all time and came to AEW to win more gold. She added herself to the Owen Hart Tournament and vowed to become the AEW Women’s World Champion. Schiavone said that Billie Starkz would be in the tournament as well, which annoyed Mone. She said that Starkz didn’t have more heart than Robyn Renegade and said that whoever trained Starkz sucked at pro wrestling.
This brought out Starkz’ mentor and Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena for a face-off to a big reaction as Nigel McGuinness listed her bonafides. Mone swung at Athena, but Athena laid her out with a forearm. Renegade went to help Mone up, but Mone shoved her in the way of an O-Face and bailed. Athena stood tall with her title to end the segment.
We got a recap of last week’s match between Julia Hart & Queen Aminata. Aminata was with Lexy Nair, who informed the audience that due to a wrist injury she picked up in that match, she wouldn’t be cleared for action tonight. Nair said that Billie Starkz would be taking Aminata’s place against Jamie Hayter. Nair was interrupted by Serena Deeb, who told Aminata that all of this could have been prevented if she had listened. Deeb said that Aminata made the wrong call, but Aminata said that she still refused to listen to Deeb’s trash. Deeb said that since Aminata had a few weeks off anyway, she could do some reading. She handed her the BINDER OF 1,000 HOLDS and left.
(The BINDER OF 1,000 HOLDS is so over with me.)
The Learning Tree (Big Bill & Bryan Keith) defeated Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin) (w/Leila Grey)
A strong win for The Learning Tree as they head to challenge The Hurt Syndicate. Top Flight feels like a more dynamic version of Private Party, but they continue to be fodder for the pushed acts on this show. Hopefully, this issue with The Cru will get them some positive momentum. That is, if they ever book the match.
After some posturing, Keith started with Dante Martin. Dante got Keith in their corner and scored some tandem offense with his brother, but Keith caught Darius with a kick to the face and tagged in Bill. Darius tried to fight out of the corner, but Keith booted him off the apron as we went to a commercial.
After the break, Darius was fighting for a tag. Dante booted Keith and got the tag but immediately got cut off by Bill. Bill ran wild, but Dante ducked a jump into the post and vaulted over Bill for a tag. They double teamed Bill and sent him to the floor before Darius hit the standing Muscle Buster for a nearfall. Bill took Darius out on the floor before taking a top rope dive from Dante.
Keith got his knees up on a Dante splash, and Bill hit a corner splash before throwing Dante into Keith’s rising knee. Bill put Dante away with a big chokeslam for the win. After the match, The Cru came from the crowd to try and jump Top Flight, but AR Fox slid in the ring to cut them off. The Cru backed away as this issue continued.
Lexy Nair’s guest at this time was Jamie Hayter, who she welcomed back. Hayter was excited to be in the ring with a young whippersnapper like Billie Starkz and respected how hard she fought. She promised to give Starkz a ton of fight in the main event tonight, then entered her name in the Owen Hart Tournament. She said that she came back at last year’s All In and will leave this year’s All In as champion.
Adam Cole & Daniel Garcia Town Hall
They announced the match with the graphic before the wrestlers made the match in the segment. It’s not like we didn’t know where this was going, but it made the promo here quite redundant to the TV audience. Maybe Khan made the match without telling them. Anyway, this was a good segment, with Garcia getting the last word in and getting a strong response to his promo.
During Cole’s entrance, it was announced that the rematch between Cole & Garcia would happen at Dynasty with no time limit and no interference. Both men came out with their partners, Cole with The Kingdom and Garcia with Matt Menard. Cole said that he respected Garcia for being a fighting champion, and it had to sit wrong with a fighting champion that he couldn’t beat Cole. Cole didn’t want their issues to end with a draw and said that Garcia knew Cole was the better man.
Garcia said that it did eat him up that he couldn’t beat Cole. Menard took the mic and asked how many shots Cole would get, and that Garcia didn’t need to give him another shot. Garcia agreed that he didn’t have to do it, but he wanted to do it. Strong took the mic and said that as good as Garcia was, he wasn’t ready to beat Cole. This started an argument that Garcia finished by saying that nobody would be at ringside, and there would be no time limit. It would be Cole vs. Garcia one last time, the better man would win, and it would be him.
Athena & Billie Starkz were backstage, with Athena mocking Mercedes Mone’s cadence. Athena said that if Mone was going to be a passive-aggressive b***h, she would get hit. She told Mone to keep her and her minion’s name out of her mouth. Athena got down to business and entered the Owen Hart Tournament before turning her attention to Starkz’ main event. She was sure Starkz would let her down but promised to watch closely anyway.
(Athena entering The Owen caught me off guard, as I expected her to simply take the TBS Title off of Mone. They’re stacking these Owen tournaments with marquee names and really stacking the build to All In.)
Wheeler Yuta defeated Dax Harwood
A solid match here, as Yuta continues to get heat and continues to weave Bryan Danielson’s offense into his arsenal. Yuta getting the clean win surprised me a bit, but it does advance Harwood’s frustrations heading into Dynasty.
They were very evenly matched in the opening exchanges, with Yuta retreating to ringside after a suplex. Yuta baited Harwood to the floor and sent him to the barricade and the stairs. Yuta locked Harwood’s arm in the turnbuckle before reminding the referee that he had till five to break, then took Harwood down with a superplex as we went to a commercial.
We came back to Harwood and Yuta brawling across the barricade. Yuta backdropped Harwood on the floor, but Harwood caught Yuta with a Dragon Screw as they got back into the ring. Harwood locked on the ringpost Figure Four, but when he tried to put a Sharpshooter on in the ring, Yuta shoved him into the post. Harwood fought back and took Yuta down with a back superplex for a nearfall.
Yuta locked on a Cattle Mutilation, but after Harwood made the ropes, he slipped away from Yuta and socked him in the face. Yuta rebounded into the ring and dropped Harwood with a German suplex. Harwood escaped another Cattle Mutilation and got the Sharpshooter on. Yuta got to the ropes, and when Harwood pulled him in the ring, Yuta caught him with the Seatbelt pin combination to score the win. Harwood looked upset as Claudio Castagnoli gave Yuta a solemn pat on the back.
After the match, Harwood argued with referee Paul Turner and grabbed him by his shirt. The black shirt security came in and restrained Harwood to the corner, a bit forcefully in my opinion. Cash Wheeler came out to clear the security off of his partner, but Harwood shoved him down, presuming he was another security guy. Harwood offered a hand to help Wheeler up, but Wheeler shoved him away and left. The crowd gave Harwood You F****d Up chants as he stewed in the ring.
Alicia Atout’s guests at this time were Nick Wayne, Kip Sabian, & Mother Wayne. They were immediately interrupted by The Cru, who asked him what was up with Wayne’s boy AR Fox. Wayne sussed out that The Cru wanted him to deal with their dirty work for them, but his issues with Fox were well in the past. Sabian told Wayne to hear them out, and The Cru said that no one knew Fox like Wayne did.
Hologram defeated Blake Christian (w/ Lee Johnson)
Schiavone put over Hologram’s winning streak, as it was the longest in AEW today. We got some quick action as you would expect from Hologram, ending with Christian sending Hologram into the steps as we went to a commercial.
After the commercial, Hologram made his comeback and hit a dive into Lee Johnson, who shoved Christian out of the way. Christian put Hologram on the barricade, but Hologram took Christian down with a hurricanrana to the floor. A slight distraction from Johnson allowed Christian to hit a Spanish Fly off the stairs and a springboard 450 for a nearfall. Both men traded kicks before Hologram hit the crossbody Spanish Fly. Christian fought off the Portal Bomb, but handsprung onto Hologram’s shoulders, allowing Hologram to hit the Portal Bomb anyway for the win.
Lexy Nair’s guests at this time were Thunder Rosa & Kris Statlander, who Nair announced were both in the Owen Hart Tournament. Statlander said that nobody could stop her, but Rosa disagreed. She never lost the women’s title and would scratch and crawl to get it back. Things got testy, but they shook hands and parted ways.
The full Owen Hart Memorial Tournament brackets will be announced on Wednesday’s Dynamite. Toni Storm vs. Penelope Ford was also added to the card for Wednesday.
Jamie Hayter defeated Billie Starkz
An interesting choice for a main event here, and a very interesting Athena/Hayter staredown at the end of the show.
Hayter knocked Starkz down with a pair of shoulder blocks, but Starkz popped back up with a straight punch to the face. Starkz caught Hayter with a rebound kick, but Hayter ripped Starkz off the ropes and hit a missile dropkick as we went to commercial.
Starkz fought to the ropes on a single-leg crab as we came back from the break. Starkz sent Hayter to the apron and booted her to the floor before hitting a dive. Back in the ring, Starkz hit a senton for a nearfall. Hayter won a strike exchange with a shotgun dropkick. Starkz caught Hayter and hit a backbreaker for a nearfall. Hayter fought out of the Electric Chair and hit the Ushigoroshi and a sliding lariat for a nearfall.
Starkz ducked the Hayterade and traded running strikes, but Hayter scored with a German suplex for a nearfall. Starkz ducked another Hayterade, but Hayter hooked her arm and hit a step-up Hayterade off the ropes for the win. After the match, Athena stared down Hayter from the ramp as the show came to a close.
Jay White declares for AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament
Image: AEW
The 2025 men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament continues to be loaded up by AEW.
Wednesday’s Dynamite saw the third entrant in the last three weeks declare for the expected eight-man field in former IWGP World Champion Jay White.
White declared for the annual tournament in a backstage promo with Renee Paquette, saying he wants to win the tournament and then go on to challenge for the AEW World title at July’s All In Texas.
It will be his second straight year entering “The Owen” as he defeated Rey Fenix in the first round last year before falling to Hangman Page in the semifinals.
White joins former AEW World Champion Page and former International Champion Will Ospreay in the tournament for which the start date is still unknown. It also hasn’t been formally announced that the winner will earn their title shot at All In Texas.
White will return to singles action for just the third time this year as part of Saturday’s Collision against Kevin Knight.
Two new matches official for AEW Grand Slam Australia
Next weekend’s AEW Grand Slam Australia continued to form with two new matches announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite.
After a wild brawl between the Death Riders and FTR, New Zealand native Jay White and Cope that started the show, White offered up a challenge for Brisbane where he and Cope face AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli in a “Brisbane Brawl.” Moxley accepted where as he earlier declined Cope’s World title challenge for Revolution.
The other new addition will see Australia native Buddy Matthews challenge reigning Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. Matthews has been prodding Okada for a match for several weeks, finally irritating him enough to get Okada to accept.
The bout will be a rematch from their November 2021 meeting at NJPW Battle in the Valley.
The show is set for Saturday, February 15th and will air on tape delay that night following the NBA All-Star Weekend slam dunk and three point contest on TNT.
Here’s the current lineup:
- Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher
- AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada defends against Buddy Matthews
- AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May defends against Toni Storm
- Jay White & Cope vs. Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli in a Brisbane Brawl
AEW Dynamite live results: Mercedes Mone vs. Yuka Sakazaki TBS title match
The TBS Championship is on the line on tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Huntsville, Alabama, as Mercedes Mone defends the title against Yuka Sakazaki.
Making her return to AEW for the first time since last September, Sakazaki was the winner of a four-way number one contender’s match on last Saturday’s Collision.
In a match with World title implications, Jeff Jarrett will face Claudio Castagnoli of the Death Riders. If Jarrett wins, he earns a future World title shot against Jon Moxley.
Wheeler Yuta of the Death Riders will also be in action as he takes on Jay White.
Will Ospreay will take on Brian Cage of the Don Callis Family after both men were involved in a show-opening brawl last Wednesday.
Former AEW World Champion MJF has also been announced for tonight’s show. He has been engaged in a war of words with Jarrett lately with a feud with Hangman Page feud also teased last week.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Taz as the music for Will Ospreay hits and we’re ready for the opening contest of the evening. They promote Ospreay teaming with Kenny Omega at Grand Slam Australia, but only told us it was Saturday February 15th, no start time or any other info, at least not yet on TV.
Will Ospreay defeated Brian Cage (w/Don Callis & Lance Archer)
(Good opener here, as Ospreay won the battle, but the Don Callis Family got the last laugh tonight and revenge for last week. While I wish Cage would have more wins, he’s the perfect guy to have competitive matches with big stars, making them look good in the process.)
Right as the bell sounded, Callis took the microphone and told Ospreay to look at the big screen, as we see Kenny Omega had been attacked and tended to by doctors and referees. Callis laughed maniacally, as Cage attacked, but Ospreay responded with a hurricanrana to the floor. Trying a follow-up dive, Cage side stepped and leveled Ospreay with a lariat. Ospreay managed to post Cage, sprung to the guard rail, but leapt into the clutches of Cage, who walked around ringside with a stalling suplex. Cage took the ref, allowing Archer & Callis to get in some cheap shots for good measure. Cage controlled the action back inside with multiple tilt-a-whirl back breakers for two. Good old fashioned bearhug worked over the lower back, as Ospreay fought free with a handspring corkscrew kick for the reset.
Ospreay couldn’t get the back suplex, but trapped Cage in the corner with Cheeky Nandos followed by Pip, Pip, Cheerio for a near fall. Cage tried a German, but Ospreay floated over, booted Cage to the outside, where he was met with the Sasuke Special. Archer ran distraction long enough for Cage to recover and hit the superplex from the outside in for two. Ospreay slipped out of a powerbomb with multiple hook kicks, tried the Oscutter, but Cage caught him with multiple lariats and Liger Bomb for a close two. Cage managed an Avalanche F5, Ospreay got his foot on the ropes, but Archer shoved it off, getting caught by referee Rick Knox in the process. Knox did nothing but scold Archer, as the delay allowed Ospreay to counter a powerbomb into a hurricanrana that collided Cage into Archer. Ospreay somehow managed a Styles Clash and got the victory.
Post-match, Archer attacked immediately with Cage joining in. Kenny Omega’s music hit and he ran out with a chair, which he chucked at both Murder Machines. Ospreay & Omega’s attention was turned to Cage & Archer, allowing Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher to hit the ring to make it 4 on 2. Takeshita hit a Bastard Driver on Omega, while Fletcher delivered a Tombstone on Ospreay, as Callis joined his Family and they stood tall, leaving Omega clutching his ribs, as Ospreay covered him from taking any more punishment.
-Renee Paquette is outside Swerve Strickland’s locker room, when Hangman Adam Page stormed by, looking inside, but not finding Strickland, saying it wasn’t Paquette’s business what he was doing. Page shouldered past MJF after a brief stare down, as Max mocked how Page is acting like he’s king sh*t and called him hypocritical. MJF kept talking to himself before Paquette cut him off, he apologized saying it was the ADD. MJF said Jeff Jarrett will learn tonight that he should’ve taken his deal with the Devil, but he’ll be beaten by a horse in Claudio Castagnoli. MJF said tonight is The Last Outlaw’s Last Ride, Ain’t I Great?
**********
-We go to pre-recorded comments from Powerhouse Hobbs, who said unfortunately he wasn’t cleared to travel to Dynamite tonight. When he is cleared, he’s going to show Big Bill that the hell they went through on Collision (both crashing off the stage through tables), is only the beginning. Commentary told us Bill hit Hobbs with a brick, thus why Hobbs wasn’t cleared to travel. I do like that they showed the brawl from Collision, also Hobbs getting the win in the multi-man tag a few weeks ago.
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Jeff Jarrett
(I thought the match was fine, as I was somewhat thankful Castagnoli didn’t take the loss here, shenanigans or not (it’s what the House of Moxley does all the time at this point). I respect the story they’re trying to tell with Jarrett wanting a World Title shot, but I think his road to that match could go through potentially the Owen Hart Cup and just have the title shot happen on TV instead of All In like last year. We’re clearly getting MJF vs. Jarrett soon, another match that should probably happen on TV, as they keep teasing MJF & Hangman, a feud that should obviously be highlighted on PPV.)
Quick hip tosses and arm drags from Jarrett in the early going, as he followed up with corner punches, which Castagnoli easily escaped from into a lariat. Jarrett avoided a Neutralizer and locked on the Figure Four, but Castagnoli quickly got the ropes. Wheeler Yuta strolled out from the crowd and began arguing with Jarrett, which is all that happened to take us to break.
When things returned, Castagnoli had taken control, keeping Jarrett grounded with a double stomp for two. Castagnoli fired off uppercuts, but Jarrett responded with his picture-perfect right hands. Jarrett really zoned in on the leg, but missed an enzugiri, resulting in Castagnoli doing the Giant Swing. Castagnoli started selling his leg, but still applied the Sharpshooter. Jarrett somehow reversed the hold into a Sharpshooter of his own, until Yuta slid a chair in the ring. After eating a right hand from Jarrett, Yuta held onto the ref, as Castagnoli went for a chair shot, missed, as Jarrett was about to hit The Stroke, when Jon Moxley appeared and laid out Jarrett with a Paradigm Shift. Castagnoli followed with multiple Neutralizer’s and got the pin. Moxley, Yuta & Marina Shafir are all watching, as Castagnoli joined them and stormed out through the crowd.
Post match, Jarrett slowly recovered as the crowd chanted for him until MJF’s music hit. Taz said it was smart for MJF to pick his spot like this as he strutted to the ring with a smile on his face. MJF was about to talk when he just ran through Jarrett with a right hand using the Dynamite Diamond Ring. MJF knelt down next to him saying he respects his elders, so he’s not going to say he told him so. MJF walked to the back with Jarrett left unconscious in the ring.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Ricochet, who she informs that Tony Khan told her that if Swerve Strickland interferes in any capacity tonight, then his match against Ricochet next week will be called off. Ricochet said is happy to hear that and he’ll tell her his thoughts on Collision this Saturday, so it’s time to go take care of business. Commentary mentioned how Ricochet interfered in Strickland’s match last week, so it makes no sense for the no interference rule to apply only to Strickland this week.
Ricochet defeated AR Fox
(I had thought things were going to be a lot worse for Fox after that no interference rule for Strickland. Thankfully we got a nice match between the former Lucha Underground rivals and the post-match was a nice little final build to Ricochet & Strickland’s showdown finally taking place next week.)
Fox worked an early headlock, as he kicked Ricochet away in the corner and hit a jumping stunner followed by a corkscrew brainbuster that sent Ricochet outside. Fox cleared the top rope for a dive, as Taz said he flew like a rocket ship, Rocket Ship Jones. Fox wanted a DVD on the apron, but Ricochet floated into the ring and hit a hip toss onto the apron, which was unique. Ricochet teased a dive, but put on the brakes to jaw jack with the fans heading to break.
When things returned, Ricochet remained in control, hitting the People’s Moonsault for a near fall. Both men got a full head of steam, ducked an attack and collided while both trying cross body blocks for the reset. Fox hit an enzugiri and leg captured DDT for two of his own. Iconoclasm into a pulling cutter led to a picture perfect 450 Splash for a close near fall, as Fox couldn’t believe it. Ricochet crawled to the apron, but held onto the ref as Fox pulled him back in. The brief hesitation allowed Ricochet to hit the Code Breaker for two, as he loaded up and hit The Spirit Gun followed by Vertigo for the win.
Post-match, Ricochet grabbed his gold scissors from behind a turnbuckle and was about to use it when Swerve Strickland appeared, dragged Ricochet to the outside and sent him crashing into the barricade and steps. The attack was allowed, as Strickland didn’t show up during the match. Strickland wanted a Swerve Stomp, but Ricochet grabbed the downed Fox and used him as a shield with the gold scissors to his throat. Ricochet tossed Fox aside and bailed, as Strickland stared him down saying there’s nowhere to run in 1 week.
-We see footage from Renee Paquette’s Closeup series with the Death Riders. Paquette asks why her husband is holding the AEW World Title hostage in a briefcase? Moxley said do people want to take a picture with it, is it a petting zoo? People don’t understand what it takes to be a champion, as Moxley is the living definition of World Champion, take a look, it’s right here. It’s not something you win, hold, show off or take a picture with, it’s in your heart, cultivated, grown in the white-hot fires of combat. Moxley is building an army of Jon Moxley’s behind him and he’s backfilling them behind him, putting them through what he’s gone through and worse.
-30 second AEW merchandise commercial with Daddy Magic is shown. This reminded me of old WCW merch ads with Public Enemy back in 1997.
**********
-A commercial for Chris Jericho’s new movie Dark Match is shown on Shudder this weekend. This leads to another New York Minute, as Jericho said it’s nice to be in the land of the Crimson Toad. Jericho said his new movie is violent and speaking of violent, Big Bill took out Powerhouse Hobbs last week. Bill said he put Jericho’s words into action and feels stronger because of it. Jericho said that makes him proud of himself for being such a great mentor, but he didn’t take out Hobbs permanently, so he has more to learn. Jericho said he & Bryan Keith will take on The Outrunners this week on Collision. Jericho has never seen The Outrunners anywhere else but AEW TV and Keith yelled it was The Mandela Effect. Jericho waved goodbye, but his smirk slowly faded to disgust. Taz pointed out that the New York Minute is much longer than a minute.
Switchblade Jay White defeated Wheeler Yuta
(I really enjoyed this match, as White finally got his revenge on the thorn in his side the past month or so. The crowd was loudly behind White throughout and also booed Yuta quite a bit.)
Yuta tried attack before the bell and nearly suffered a Blade Runner for his troubles, but he scrambled outside. Bell sounded and again Yuta took a powder, but when he got back in, White grabbed him by the goatee and fired off chops. Guns up back drop from White, as Yuta was crotched on the ropes and ate another chop that sent him crashing outside. White continued to have his way until Yuta dropkicked out the leg and hit a drop toe hold onto the edge of the ring. The ankle was trapped in the framing of the ring, allowing Yuta to stomp down on the knee. Back inside, fisherman’s suplex got a near fall, as Yuta stayed in control during break. Excalibur threw it to picture in picture, but it took a while to actually cut to commercial.
When things returned, White tried to mount a comeback, but Yuta again went after the leg. Yuta wanted a back superplex, but White fought out with a dragon screw. White shook out the leg and finally hit a massive superplex for two. More chops to Yuta, who rolled through a Uranage and chop blocked White leading to a single leg Boston Crab. White got the ropes, but Yuta hit an arm trapped Angle Slam for two. Anvil elbows delivered, as White started firing up with a huge Uranage. White wanted Blade Runner again, but Yuta rolled through into a school boy, hit a comeback German for another close near fall. Yuta looked for a splash, rolled through, wanted the Busiaku Knee, but ran right into a Blade Runner for the cool finish.
Post-match, Death Riders hit the ring and attacked White, but Rated FTR quickly made the save before things got out of hand. Cope shook White’s hand, as Dax Harwood took the mic and said he doesn’t hate how Death Riders operate, but hates how they tried to end a 67 year old hero of his, Ricky Morton, last week. Hardwood said Dennis Condrey is there tonight and on his name, on Collision, they’ll see the Death Riders in a Mid-South Street Fight. Crowd popped for this, but Moxley didn’t look amused as his crew retreat.
-Video package of Mariah May & Toni Storm’s interaction on Collision last week was shown and the performance of a lifetime and the return of Timeless Toni Storm. I’m glad they showed this tonight, as this was one of the best segments on Collision in quite some time.
We go to Renee Paquette, who welcomes Mariah May to the stage. Tony Schiavone calls May a typical Mean Girl, as May said it’s great to be in Huntsville, but said maybe they should change the first letter to a C. May said they’re not playing this game, Toni Storm is not real, as she got into Paquette’s face, causing her to bail. May said Toni wants to play the role of Toni Storm? Why doesn’t she play the role of the woman who used her for her gold? Play the Toni Storm whose most memorable moment was bleeding and crying in May’s hands or the one who walked out of AEW, Japan & Mexico because she couldn’t touch May. Play whatever version you want, the ending is still the same, when you’re this good, you don’t change a thing. May is the woman from hell and she always will be, something she’ll remind Storm for the rest of her life. Look now and never forget, for this is your AEW Women’s World Champion. May held up the title, as there was no appearance from Storm herself tonight.
-Video package for The Gunns is shown, as they are looking at past highlights from their career in AEW, while training for their return. Jay White’s voice is heard throughout, as they hit the Guns Up line to end it.
-We’re told Daniel Garcia will defend the TNT Title against Kyle O’Reilly & Lee Moriarty in a 3-way on Collision and see highlights from the past few weeks and the run-ins between the three
-Highlights of The Hurt Syndicate winning the AEW Tag Team Titles last week was shown. MVP recognizes Private Party for fighting hard, but wasn’t their fault for running into a dominant tandem in Lashley & Shelton Benjamin, who will hold the titles as long as they choose. Name the time and the place, they’re the Hurt Syndicate and they hurt people.
**********
-Video package for International Champion Konosuke Takeshita is shown and his recent success winning the NEVER Openweight Title and defending it.
-Backstage, Taya Valkyrie & Deonna Purazzo say moments from now, they’ll see Mercedes Mone defend her title against Yuka. Purrazzo said it should’ve been her in this match, but Valkyrie said Harley Cameron stuck her balloons where they don’t belong. Now, Cameron belongs to The Vendetta and on Collision, they’re coming to collect.
Mercedes Mone defeated Yuka Sakazaki to retain the TBS Title
(I thought this turned into a good main event and Sakazaki put up quite the fight with the crowd supporting her, but there was no way Mone was losing here. I wish Mone would scrap the Mone Maker, as the rarity it hits flush, it doesn’t seem like that much of an impact for a finisher and it doesn’t get that big of a reaction. The Statement Maker submission is more than fine.)
Big intros from Justin Roberts before the start of the match, as the crowd is loudly behind Sakazaki, as both ladies trade wrist and headlocks. Mone hit a shoulder tackle and did her dance, but Sakazaki kipped up, fast sequence, hit a shoulder block of her own and mocked the dance. Mone whiffed on an arm drag, as Sakazaki got a rolling high stack for two. Mone dodged a sliding lariat into a roll-up for two of her won, as both ladies were up and Mone hit a springing arm drag. Taz said some people despise Mone, but it could be jealousy. Sakazaki blocked a baseball slide, mocked Mone, who she hit with a spinning kick on the apron. Sakazaki went to the top for a dive, but Mone wisely bailed. Sakazaki tried the boot from the apron, but Mone swept out the leg and hit a diving Meteora, taking control into break.
Mone remained in the driver’s seat when things returned, but Sakazaki countered a powerbomb into a hurricanrana. Mone missed a corner Meteora, as Sakazaki missed the first springboard attempt, but worked for it and hit the second attempt dropkick for two. Brainbuster and sliding lariat connected for a near fall, as Mone responded by floating over a suplex into the Three Amigos. Mone took way too much time going up top, as she was cut off with a step-up forearm and superplex.
Sakazaki wanted the Merry-Go-Round, but Mone spun out, tried the Mone Maker, only for Sakazaki to land on her feet and hit a thrust kick. Merry-Go-Round hammerlock slam connected for the closest near fall of the match. Mone avoided a charge with a head scissors into the corner, leading to the backstabber into the Statement Maker. Sakazaki rolled into a pin attempt for two, hit the rolling elbow and pin attempt for a near fall. Mone was trapped in the corner, where Sakazaki hit a snap German, as she went for the Magical Girl Splash, but Mone got the knees up. Pump knee, powerbomb and Mone Maker connect for the win.

“Before #AEWWorldsEnd, the 3 World Title challengers aim to take down Death Riders THIS WEDNESDAY!,” Khan wrote.
