AEW stars cut hilarious promo after losing tag titles in Japan

Recently signed AEW stars Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee (The IInspiration) were filmed backstage following their loss at TJPW YES! Wonderland this morning. The former WWE stars dropped their TJPW Princess Tag Team Championship to Miu Watanabe & Rika Tatsumi in the semi-main, and their post-match promo was well worth the watch. Some highlights include:

Cassie Lee: “How was it? [the match] Let me let me paint you the picture, okay? We’re dehydrated to start with, okay? We’re on an 18-hour flight to get here, okay? That’s the first thing”

Jessie McKay: “Next thing is, you’ve got both girls just flying around. I got hit with a backside, someone’s backside, seven or eight times. A bottom, right? She grabbed my damn leg and tried to hurt me, tried to end my career, So I don’t appreciate that one bit.

Cassie Lee: “We’ve got some rules to lay down, okay? First of all, I need water, I’m dehydrated. I need water, ice cold for a drink, okay?

Jessie McKay: “Number two, no streamers. We’re banning streamers. They’re gone, not allowed any inspiration, okay? And we’re going to have to approve move lists from our opponents, okay? We need to know what’s in their repertoire.”

Cassie Lee: “And we will say yes or no {whether they’re allowed to do those moves]”

TNA pulls Lei Ying Lee from TJPW event, issues apology

TNA Wrestling has issued an apology for having to pull one of its stars from an upcoming event in Japan.

In December 2025, it was announced that Lei Ying Lee would be heading to Japan this March for Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling’s Grand Princess 2026. A subsequent announcement was then made last week with it being revealed that Lee was slated to team with Sareee against Miyu Yamashita & Arisu Endo at the March 29 show. However, Lee’s appearance has now been canceled.

TJPW described the cancellation as “sudden” and said that, while they’ve been discussing the situation with TNA, the decision to pull Lee from the show remains unchanged. TJPW’s announcement includes a statement from TNA, who apologized for having to cancel the appearance and said that neither Lee nor TJPW are at fault.

“TNA sincerely apologizes for Lei Ying Lee’s inability to participate in TJPW’s Ryogoku Sumo Hall show on March 29,” TNA said.

“Neither Lee nor TJPW are at fault for this situation, and we thank TJPW for accommodating this change.
Once again, we apologize to TJPW, TJPW fans, as well as Miyu Yamashita, Arisu Endo, and Sareee who were announced in this match with Lee, for the absence of Lei Ying Lee at the last minute for the Ryogoku Sumo Hall show which we know is very important for TJPW. We wish TJPW continued success and appreciate their partnership.”

TNA has its Sacrifice 2026 special coming up on March 27 and a TV taping set for March 28, which could be the reason for having to remove Lee from the TJPW show. Both of those TNA events are being held at the Alario Center in Louisiana.

Lee formerly wrestled for WWE as Xia Li and is a one-time Knockouts Champion since joining TNA.

Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling is now all set to host their upcoming TJPW Grand Princess 2026 show at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall, and has now officially announced their first match. Earlier today on social media, TJPW pushed out the first match announcement, where AEW star Konosuke Takeshita will team up with his wife, Yuka Sakazaki.

The married couple announced via a social media upload that they will be in action. The couple will take part in a special tag-team against two unnamed opponents. The video segment was recorded last year in December during the AEW Worlds End PPV.

Wednesday Update

WWE

  • WWE uploaded the full Chelsea Green vs. Sol Ruca Women’s United States Championship match that headlined NXT last night.
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Diamond Dallas Page discussed working with Bron Breakker while Breakker was still pursuing a career in football:
    • Really got to know him when he was finishing up playing at Kennesaw [State University] football, because he got [signed] by the Baltimore Ravens. You know, it would have been funny if he would have made that team, I think – first of all, it was the greatest thing to happen to him that he didn’t, but he had that shot.
    • And he knew right away. I was working with him, we trained together a lot. And I don’t mean in the ring – I mean in the gym. He wasn’t afraid to do DDP Yoga. He wanted to do it with me. All them, all those Steiner brothers, man, his two other brothers – beasts. Maveric’s a beast. Hudson is an animal as well. And then you go to Brandon and you got Brock with Scotty Steiner.
    • I love that so many of the boys’ sons are just real gentlemen. And to be able to watch Bronson, yeah, okay, he’s always going to be Bronson to me, you know? Wow. He has it in spades, and they’ve seen it since the beginning.
  • DDP added that he would love to see Breakker become World Champion:
    • I would love to see that, man. I haven’t talked to him probably in about a month or two, but humble, feet on the ground. And you gotta know who you are, you know? You don’t forget that. But you want to always try to keep your feet on the ground, because that’s the guys who continue to excel.
  • Responding to someone on X, Paul Heyman gave credit to Evolve’s Gabe Sapolsky for discovering Austin Theory:
    • For the record, @BookItGabe deserves all the credit for the discovery of [Austin Theory]. As Executive Director of @WWE #RAW in 2019/2020, I drafted Theory from @WWENXT for (ironically enough) @WWERollins’ group. Now, he’s a seasoned veteran with a chip on his shoulder ready to step into the spotlight.
    • But the credit for discovering Theory goes to Gabe!

Other Wrestling

  • Former WWE broadcaster Scott Stanford interviewed Tony Khan for 1010 Wins radio in New York City.
  • While speaking with WrestleZone, Harley Cameron discussed how she’s benefited from working with Mercedes Mone:
    • She has allowed me this year to dig deep and push to a different level. Obviously, she’s one of the greatest to ever do it, and having the opportunity to work with her has been imperative to my career. It’s definitely highlighted me and given me opportunities, which is exactly what someone with that kind of star power can do.
    • Being in the ring with her multiple times has pushed me to think outside the box and challenge myself. So I’d say it’s more inspiration than advice, per se. I’m obviously very excited to face her again at the pay-per-view, Worlds End. I’m hoping it will once again bring out that deep-level performance from me.
  • Good Karma Wrestling also spoke with Cameron ahead of Worlds End.

TJPW wrestler with AEW experience announces free agency

Maki Itoh is now a free agent following the expiration of her contract with Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling.

Her final TJPW match took place on August 23, with Itoh posting a statement today thanking the promotion for the eight-plus years she spent there. Itoh did not say what her next step will be but confirmed she will continue wrestling.

“With the Korakuen Hall show on August 23, 2025, my contract with TJPW has come to an end,” she announced.

“Back when I was struggling as an idol, it was [Sanshiro] Takagi who discovered me. I wasn’t good at singing or dancing, and I was never that popular-but the one thing I was ever praised for was pro wrestling. Thanks to TJPW, I was able to spend 8 years and 7 months growing and living alongside this company. It’s all because of TJPW and everyone I’ve met along the way.

“I’ll continue wrestling, so I’m sure we’ll meet again somewhere down the road! I’ll never forget the gratitude I feel toward everyone who has supported me, and I’ll keep treasuring the experience and knowledge I gained here as I move forward. From the bottom of my heart, thank you f*ck you all!”

TJPW also posted its own statement saying that a decision not to renew Itoh’s contract was made after thorough discussion with her.

Along with her work in Japan, Itoh has been popular with U.S. audiences with her foul-mouthed “Fired Idol” character, which is a reference to her real-life past as an aspiring pop singer. She regularly competes for Game Changer Wrestling and worked some matches for AEW from 2021-2023, though it’s now been more than two years since she wrestled in an AEW ring.

Itoh’s final TJPW match was a loss to Yuki Arai at the August 23 event.

TJPW star challenging for Women’s title in MLW debut

Tokyo Joshi Pro star Shoko Nakajima is getting a title shot in her MLW debut.

MLW announced today that Nakajima will challenge Women’s Featherweight Champion Delmi Exo at Battle Riot VII in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 5. The show is taking place at The Commerce Casino & Hotel and will air live on MLW’s YouTube channel for free.

“This championship fight has been brokered between MLW and TJPW, underscoring the continued collaboration between the two organizations,” MLW hyped. “It also comes at a time when MLW’s women’s division is heating up, and Nakajima looks to make an immediate impact by capturing gold in her debut.”

Nakajima is a two-time Princess of Princess Champion for TJPW, most recently holding the title in 2022. She worked a pair of AEW matches in 2019-2020 and has made recent appearances in the United States for indie promotion Deadlock Pro, along with wrestling at Defy and GCW events in collaboration with TJPW.

Exo is on her second reign as MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion. She regained the belt last month from Janai Kai. Only Taya Valkyrie, Exo, and Kai have held the title since it was introduced in 2022 as MLW’s first-ever Women’s Championship.

There have now been two matches confirmed for the Battle Riot VII card:

  • Matt Riddle defends the MLW World Heavyweight Championship in 40-wrestler Battle Riot match
  • MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion Delmi Exo defends against Shoko Nakajima

Willow Nightingale to make Japan debut for TJPW this month

After it was originally delayed due to visa issues, Willow Nightingale is finally set to make her Japan debut.

Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling has announced that Nightingale will be in action at their shows in Japan on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, November 6. Nightingale was supposed to debut for the promotion this July, but that couldn’t happen due to visa processes taking longer than expected.

TJPW noted in July that it would do its best to have Nightingale come to the promotion in the near future.

Nightingale tweeted on Friday: “So excited to FINALLY make my Japanese debut with none other than @tjpw2013 [heart emoji]”

Nightingale is a regular for AEW, though it’s yet to be confirmed if she’s signed an AEW contract. She unsuccessfully challenged Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship at Battle of the Belts IV on October 7.

Nightingale has also been involved with ROH both before and after the promotion was purchased by Tony Khan.

TJPW’s Miyu Yamashita earns future AEW Women’s World title shot

Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling’s Miyu Yamashita has earned a future shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Yamashita put herself in line for a shot at the championship by defeating Thunder Rosa in a non-title match at TJPW’s Summer Sun Princess 2022 event on Saturday. Rosa said during the lead-up to the match that she would give Yamashita a title shot if Yamashita won.

A date for the title match hasn’t been set. During a post-match press conference, Rosa said Yamashita knows her schedule and knows where AEW goes. Rosa said Yamashita is more than welcome to come to her house whenever she’s in the United States:

Yamashita made her AEW debut on an episode of Dark: Elevation last month, teaming with Skye Blue in a loss to Nyla Rose & Serena Deeb.

Dave Meltzer reported two weeks ago that AEW was interested in doing a Rosa vs. Yamashita match on AEW television:

It is not a lock or anything, but there was definitely talk of Rosa vs. Yamashita on AEW television as well as in Japan. The key people [in AEW] were very impressed with Yamashita on the streaming shows. It is hard to explain why Yamashita with only a couple of matches and never having been on television would be getting a title shot logically, and it’s never a lock here until it’s announced.

Willow Nightingale’s TJPW debut off due to visa delay

Willow Nightingale is going to have to wait a bit longer to have her first match in Japan.

Nightingale was supposed to make her Japan debut this Saturday (July 9), facing Miu Watanabe at Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling’s Summer Sun Princess 2022 event. But TJPW has announced that, due to visa processes taking longer than expected, Nightingale won’t be able to appear at the show.

TJPW noted that they’ll do their best to have Nightingale come to the promotion in the near future.

“Unfortunately, Willow Nightingale will be unable to be at #tjpwSSP22 on July 9 due to visa processes taking more time than expected,” TJPW tweeted. “We apologize to fans who were looking forward to her appearance and will do our best to have her come to #tjpw in the near future.”

Watanabe will instead face Ryo Mizunami at Summer Sun Princess 2022.

“I was looking forward to debuting with @tjpw2013 this coming weekend, but sometimes things don’t go as planned,” Nightingale wrote. “Hopefully once my visa situation gets settled, I will be able to finally wrestle for TJPW. Please still watch Summer Sun Princess & I will keep studying my Japanese”

In addition to competing on the indies, Nightingale also appears for both AEW and ROH.

Thunder Rosa announced for Tokyo Joshi Pro Summer Sun Princess event

Thunder Rosa is set to return to Japan for Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling next month.

It was announced that Thunder Rosa would be making her return Tokyo Joshi Pro next month to face Miyu Yamashita. This will take place at the Summer Sun Princess 2022 event on July 9 at the Ota City Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo.

Rosa hasn’t been in Tokyo Joshi Pro since January 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the pandemic, she had to vacate the International Princess Championship that she held in October of 2020.

Rosa is the current AEW Women’s World Champion, defeating Britt Baker at St. Patrick’s Day Slam back in March. She most recently defended the title at Double or Nothing last month where she defeated Serena Deeb. She will next defend the championship against Toni Storm at Forbidden Door on June 26.

Willow Nightingale has also been announced for Summer Sun Princess 2022. She will take on Miu Watanabe.
