Clarification on AEW Double or Nothing & Battle of the Belts inclusion in WBD media release

A media release issued by Warner Bros. Discovery last Thursday caught the attention of the wrestling media as it listed a three-hour Dynamite/Collision during Full Gear week in addition to a Thanksgiving Day Collision which was new information.

It also included entries regarding both AEW Battle of the Belts and AEW Double or Nothing which some took to mean that the May pay-per-view was going to air on TBS or TNT on Friday, November 28.

There is some clarity on those entries from a WBD representative, the most important of which is the release was for HBO Max programming only and not TBS/TNT.

The “November 21: The Battle of the Belts joins the AEW programming roster alongside Dynamite and Rampage (2022)” line refers to the old Battle of the Belts shows becoming available on Max on November 21 as they are currently not in the archives. It will be the debut episode only with future BOTB shows added chronologically alongside Dynamite and Rampage.

As for Double or Nothing, the November 28 date listed is the date that PPV will be available for everyone on the HBO Max service. That is 187 days after the May 25 event which falls in line with the policy that PPV buyers of that show will get six months of exclusivity on the service.

Komander earns title shot against ROH TV champion Brian Cage

Image: AEW

The first challenger for new Ring of Honor men’s TV Champion Brian Cage will be Komander following the events of Thursday’s ROH TV show on HonorClub.

Komander earned the shot by defeating Willie Mack on Thursday and will be looking for his first taste of either AEW or ROH gold. Cage upended Atlantis Jr. at last Saturday’s WrestleDream to win the title — his first singles title in either AEW or ROH.

The match is expected to air on next week’s ROH TV after being taped on Thursday in Stockton, California. While the two have shared the ring several times, this will be their first one-on-one matchup.

Komander will head into the match on a three-match winning streak in ROH while Cage is undefeated in the ROH ring at 15-0.

Women’s World title eliminator booked for AEW Battle of the Belts XII

Women’s World Champion Mariah May will face a potential future title challenger at AEW Battle of the Belts XII.

As announced Wednesday night, May will take on Anna Jay in a Women’s World title eliminator bout at AEW Battle of the Belts XII airing Saturday night, October 19 on TNT following Collision. The match was set up with a backstage altercation between the two during Wednesday’s Dynamite that saw Jay strike authority figure Christopher Daniels by mistake as he attempted to separate the pair.

Jay is 2-0 in AEW since returning from an excursion to Japan where she competed in Stardom’s 5 Star Grand Prix.

May has defended her title three times since defeating Toni Storm for the bet at All In in August, scoring victories over Nyla Rose, Yuka Sakazaki, and Willow Nightingale.

Saturday’s Battle of the Belts XII special is being taped Thursday night, October 17 alongside Saturday’s Collision episode.

The lineup to this point for Battle of the Belts XII:

  • Women’s World title eliminator: Mariah May vs. Anna Jay

AEW reveals Battle of the Belts XII date

AEW has revealed the date for the taping of Battle of the Belts XII.

AEW announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite show that Battle of the Belts will be taped alongside an episode of Collision on Thursday, October 17 in Stockton, California at the Adventist Health Arena.

Darby Allin, FTR, Jack Perry, Thunder Rosa, Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, Willow Nightingale, and Chris Jericho are featured in the promotional poster for the Collision/Battle of the Belts taping.

The October 17 taping date would seem to indicate that Battle of the Belts XII will air following Collision on Saturday, October 19.

The most recent Battle of the Belts XI special aired live on TNT on Saturday, July 27.

The show featured Dustin Rhodes, Ross Von Erich & Marshall Von Erich winning the vacant ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles in the main event over The Undisputed Kingdom, a Toni Storm win over Taya Valkyrie in an AEW Women’s title eliminator, plus Willow Nightingale defeating Deonna Purrazzo in a CMLL Women’s title eliminator.

AEW Collision and Battle of the Belts ratings down

Saturday night’s AEW Collision episode averaged 382,000 viewers on TNT, down 19.1 percent from the previous week. It’s the second-highest audience total the show has done since June 29.

Collision drew a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down 20 percent from last week and is the lowest number for the show since July 6.

Battle of the Belts XI aired on TNT immediately after Collision, averaging 308,000 viewers. That’s down 27 percent from the last Battle of the Belts special and is the lowest viewership total in the history of the show. It drew a 0.09 rating in the 18-49 demo, which ties the lowest rating in Battle of the Belts history.

Collision/Battle of the Belts went head-to-head with NBC’s Olympic coverage as well as the UFC 304 prelims and the start of the UFC 304 PPV broadcast.

As compared to the same week in 2023, the overall viewership for Collision was down 48.3 percent while the 18-49 rating was down 55.6 percent. Battle of the Belts (which aired two weeks earlier last year) was down 41.2 percent in overall viewers and down 40 percent in 18-49 as compared to the 2023 edition.

Listed below are the last 11 weeks of overall viewership totals and 18-49 demo ratings for Collision, along with the 10-week average in both categories. The full ratings history for Battle of the Belts is also listed.

New ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions to be crowned at AEW Battle of the Belts XI

The AEW Unified Trios Championship will be unified no more as new ROH Six-Man Champions will be crowned Saturday.

ROH announced during Thursday’s Ring of Honor TV episode that a title eliminator match will take place at Friday’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, with Dustin Rhodes, Ross Von Erich, and Marshall Von Erich facing Dark Order’s John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and Evil Uno, with the winners advancing to Battle of the Belts XI on Saturday to face three members of The Undisputed Kingdom for the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles.

The ROH Six-Man titles had been unified with the AEW Trios Championship in April at Dynasty, but the titles are now again being split.

The Patriarchy trio of Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Killswitch won the Unified Trios titles on last week’s Collision episode, but will apparently only be defending the AEW Trios titles going forward.

The current lineup for AEW Battle of the Belts XI airing Saturday at 10 p.m. Eastern time on TNT immediately following Collision:

  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship: Undisputed Kingdom (three of Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Roderick Strong, Wardlow) vs. Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs/Dark Order winner
  • AEW Women’s World title eliminator: Toni Storm vs. Taya Valkyrie

Women’s title eliminator match booked for AEW Battle of the Belts XI

On the road to All In, AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm will be in action at Battle of the Belts XI.

AEW has announced that a title eliminator match between Storm and Taya Valkyrie will take place at Battle of the Belts XI this Saturday (July 27). It’s the first match that’s been announced for the Battle of the Belts show. If Valkyrie wins, she earns a future shot at the Women’s World Championship.

Storm confronted Mariah May on Dynamite last night, attempting to get revenge after May’s betrayal. Officials broke up a brawl between the two.

Storm is defending the AEW Women’s World Championship against May at All In on Sunday, August 25. May was Storm’s protege until turning against her in an angle that took place two weeks ago. After defeating Willow Nightingale in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals, May attacked Storm and left her bloody.

Battle of the Belts XI begins at 10 p.m. Eastern time this Saturday, airing live on TNT immediately after Collision. Both shows are taking place as part of AEW’s residency at Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

AEW Battle of the Belts XI date & location revealed

Both the location and the date for the eleventh installment in the AEW Battle of the Belts series has been revealed.

The TNT schedule lists the one-hour show for 10 PM Eastern on Saturday, July 27th following that night’s live edition of Collision. The night will emanate from the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where AEW will take up a residency for roughly five weeks. Based on recent shows, it’s expected Battle of the Belts will also be live again.

The added hour will be part of a busy week for the Tony Khan companies as the Collision/Battle of the Belts twin bill takes place the day after Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor in the same venue which is preceded by the annual Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite from Nashville, Tennessee, two days earlier.

This will be AEW’s third-such event this year with the previous two taking place in January (Norfolk, Virginia) and April (Highland Heights, Kentucky).

The quarterly events began in 2022 as an hour-long program with three title matches per show, but the show hasn’t featured a title change since the second installment that same year.

Athena to defend ROH Women’s title at AEW Battle of the Belts X

Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Athena will look to extend her lengthy win streak and title defense streak on Saturday’s AEW Battle of the Belts X.

Athena will defend against Red Velvet who is still looking for her first AEW or ROH title. She is 5-1 in her brief ROH run and is coming off a March loss to Queen Aminata in the recent Women’s TV title tournament.

This will be their first ever time sharing the ring together.

Athena last defended her title at last Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor against former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. That was her 20th title defense dating back to December 2022. She has won her last 19 singles matches in both ROH.

This will be her first appearance on AEW TV since a July 2023 loss to Willow Nightingale in the Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament. Her last AEW match came at last October’s WrestleDream pre-show in an eight-person tag team match.

Here’s the current card for the live 10 PM Eastern special that follows AEW Collision:

  • AEW International Champion Roderick Strong vs. Rocky Romero in a title eliminator match
  • FTW Champion Hook defends against Shane Taylor
  • ROH Women’s Champion Athena defends against Red Velvet

FTW title match booked for AEW Battle of the Belts X

An FTW title match has been added to Battle of the Belts X, part of Saturday’s three-hour block of AEW programming on TNT.

As announced in a social media post by AEW’s Tony Khan, Hook will defend the FTW title against Shane Taylor at Battle of the Belts X on Saturday, April 13.

Hook & Chris Jericho are embroiled in a feud with Taylor’s Shane Taylor Promotions, including a trios match on this week’s Dynamite where Taylor, Anthony Ogogo & Lee Moriarty defeated Hook, Jericho & Katsuyori Shibata.

An International title eliminator match has already been announced for Battle of the Belts, with International Champion Roderick Strong taking on Rocky Romero.

The updated cards for AEW’s Saturday block:

AEW Collision, Saturday, April 13, 8 p.m. Eastern time —

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm vs. AZM in a title eliminator match
  • Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Powerhouse Hobbs & Kyle Fletcher

AEW Battle of the Belts X, Saturday, April 13, 10 p.m. Eastern time —

  • AEW International Champion Roderick Strong vs. Rocky Romero in a title eliminator match
  • FTW Champion Hook defends against Shane Taylor

AEW Battle of the Belts IX live results: Tag Team title street fight

Three titles will be on the line at AEW Battle of the Belts IX.

AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill will defend against Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara in a street fight. Jericho & Kenny Omega earned a title shot by defeating no. 1 contenders The Young Bucks at November’s Full Gear. Jericho transferred Omega’s shot to Guevara after Omega was put on the shelf with diverticulitis.

TBS Champion Julia Hart will put her title up against Anna Jay. Jay pinned Hart in a tag team match on this week’s Dynamite to set this up.

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Preston Vance. Cassidy and Vance were on the same team on Wednesday’s Dynamite where Cassidy, Vance, Adam Copeland & Dustin Rhodes defeated Lance Archer, Brian Cage & the Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona).

Battle of the Belts begins immediately following Collision on TNT.

Battle of the Belts IX started as Collision ended, with Big Bill & Ricky Starks brawling with Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara outside the building. There was a referee outside with them, so I’ll consider this the start of the match.

AEW World Tag Team Title Street Fight – Big Bill & Ricky Starks defeated Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara to retain

This was a wild brawl, mirroring more WWF Hardcore than the usual AEW brawls. It was a fun piece of business though, and the Callis Family continues to be thorns in Jericho’s side. Maybe the most memorable Battle of the Belts match yet, although that’s not clearing the highest of bars.

All four men brawled with each other and hit each other with plunder, with Bill sending Jericho into a production truck with a choke. After some more brawling, Bill chokeslammed Jericho off of a landing onto the grassy ground several feet below. Guevara appeared in a golf cart, calling back to a street fight from the pandemic era of Dynamite, running into both Bill and Starks. Starks looked to get his leg messed up but kicked out of the cover.

Jericho recovered to help Guevara fight Bill two on one, but Bill hit them with a bag full of bricks. Bill went to throw a brick at Guevara, but Guevara ducked it. Jericho and Guevara suplexed Bill onto the car, which turned out to be Rhett Titus’s rental car. He complained to Jericho, who gave him a Judas Effect for his troubles.

Jericho and Starks brawled into the building, using several janitorial items to hit each other. Starks threw Jericho into a bay door for a nearfall. Jericho pressed Starks’ face into a copier before getting a copy of Starks’ crushed face. More brawling led them to a catering area where Bill and Guevara reappeared.

After a commercial, Guevara did a wall walk into a superkick onto Bill before spraying both champions with a fire extinguisher. Jericho drilled Bill with a fire extinguisher as Starks and Guevara brawled down the hall. They finally fought out in front of the crowd as Jericho whipped Bill with a kendo stick. Jericho and Bill fought up a speaker box as Starks and Guevara fought to the back.

Jericho set up Bill on top of the speaker box, but Konosuke Takeshita drilled Jericho with a kendo stick. That allowed Bill to powerbomb Jericho through a table near the time keeper area. Guevara and Starks brawled toward the stage, where Guevara laid out Starks on the stage. Guevara climbed up a lighting truss, but when he went for his dive, Powerhouse Hobbs pulled Starks out of the way. Guevara broke through the stage, and Starks crawled over him to score the pin and the win.

TBS Title Match – Julia Hart defeated Anna Jay to retain

Fitting of the House of Black, this match was in the death spot. They didn’t do too much to overcome it.

Jay took the early advantage with a neckbreaker, but Hart turned things around with a back elbow in the corner. Hart went for a cartwheel into the corner, but Jay reversed it and sent her into the top turnbuckle. Jay hit a leg lariat, but Hart ducked a second one and pulled Jay into the post shoulder-first. Hart targeted the shoulder as we went to a commercial.

Jay made a one-armed comeback as we came back from the break, hitting the Dangerous Jay kick for a nearfall. Jay hit a backstabber for another nearfall. Hart countered a corner charge but ran into…something from Jay for a nearfall. Jay locked on the Queenslayer, but Hart quickly countered it into a choke of her own. Jay pulled her off and hit a flatliner for a nearfall. Hart countered another Dangerous Jay kick into the Hartless submission for the win.

Jeff & Karen Jarrett, Jay Lethal, & Sonjay Dutt were backstage. The team seems to be turning on Lethal, but Satnam Singh came in with homemade snacks his mother made to help Lethal get back on the winning track. Lethal wasn’t too enthusiastic about it.

AEW International Title Match – Orange Cassidy defeated Preston Vance to retain

This was the best Vance showing I’ve ever seen, as Cassidy gave him a ton of offense here. Cassidy gets another quality title defense as Roderick Strong and the Undisputed Kingdom loom large.

Before the bell rang, Roderick Strong & The Kingdom showed up with chairs, but they only sat down at ringside. Vance hammered Cassidy with the Discus Lariat as the bell rang, but Cassidy rolled to the floor. Vance rolled Cassidy back into the ring, but Cassidy hit the Orange Punch to knock him away. Cassidy fought out of the Full Nelson and an attempt by Vance to go to the top rope.

Vance hit a flying shoulder tackle off the middle rope and caught Cassidy with a wheelbarrow German suplex that sent him to the feet of the Kingdom. Vance pulled Cassidy from the apron into a stalling suplex for a nearfall. After a commercial, Cassidy put his hands in his pockets to evade a Full Nelson attempt to a raucous crowd. Cassidy went for the diving DDT, but Vance caught him and hit the main event spinebuster.

Vance clubbered on Cassidy, who countered with his soft strikes. Cassidy drilled Vance with a kick before stomping on him in the corner. Vance pulled Cassidy into a ripcord cutter before Cassidy hit the Stundog Millionaire and a tornado DDT for a nearfall. Vance rolled to the floor as Cassidy went to the top rope. Vance caught a diving Cassidy and flung him into the Kingdom at ringside.

Vance and Strong got into it before Vance got Cassidy into the full nelson in the ring. Cassidy stomped on Vance’s foot to escape. Cassidy then hit the Orange Punch and the Beach Break to score the win. The Kingdom got into the ring and menaced Cassidy. Strong drilled Jose The Assistant with a knee before cornering Cassidy. But all they did was applaud Cassidy as the show went off the air.

International title match set for AEW Battle of the Belts IX

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy will defend his title against Preston Vance as part of Saturday’s Battle of the Belts IX from Norfolk, Virginia.

Cassidy, in his second run with the title, will be gunning for his eighth defense and his second one of the month while Vance is still in search of his first taste of AEW gold.

Both men were on the same team in an eight-man tag team match on this past Wednesday’s Dynamite — one that saw Vance score the winning pin.

The two have gone one-on-one just once back in September 2020 when Vance was known as Ten. Cassidy defended the formerly named All-Atlantic title against Vance and Rush in a three-way in October 2022.

The new bout joins the previously announced title matches between AEW Tag Team Champions Big Bill & Ricky Starks against Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara, and TBS Champion Julia Hart defending against Anna Jay.

The show will air following Collision at 10 PM Eastern on TNT:

  • AEW Tag Team Champions Big Bill & Ricky Starks defend against Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
  • TBS Champion Julia Hart defends against Anna Jay
  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Preston Vance
