Mustafa Ali, John Skyler & Jason Hotch vs. Chris Sabin, KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight
In his first night in the company, Mustafa Ali is leaving a champion after winning the X-Division title at TNA No Surrender in New Orleans.
Ali defeated Chris Sabin in the night’s main event — the first time an X-Division match has main evented one of their specials since 2005’s Unbreakable.
The end to the competitive match came when Ali avoided an avalanche Cradle Shock attempt, hitting a sunset bomb and a 450 splash to pick up the win.
This is Ali’s first singles title in a major promotion while the loss ends Sabin’s 10th run with the championship that started at last September’s Impact 1000 and saw three successful title defenses.
Ali will be sticking around TNA at least through late-March as part of five additional dates that includes March’s Sacrifice streaming special and several TV tapings.
He will take on Kevin Knight during Saturday’s TV taping in New Orleans,
Since his non-compete ended following his WWE release, the 37-year-old Ali has been busy, competing both domestically and abroad, making appearances for GCW, Defy, RevPro, PROGRESS and others. He will make his NJPW debut in April in a match against Hiroshi Takahashi.
Ali’s win was one of two on the night as MK Ultra regained the Knockouts Tag Team titles from Decay while all the other champions that defended retained.
TNA will hold their first streaming event in the post-Scott D’Amore era with tonight’s No Surrender, live from New Orleans, Louisiana, on TNA+.
The event is headlined by TNA World Champion Moose defending against Alex Shelley in a rematch from January’s Hard to Kill but under No Surrender rules where a cornerman must throw in the towel for the match to end.
Mustafa Ali will make his TNA debut as he challenges X-Division Champion Chris Sabin for the title.
Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace will defend against Gisele Shaw while the TNA Tag Team titles will be decided in the best-of-three finale between champions ABC and the Grizzled Young Veterans.
Josh Alexander will face Simon Gotch, and Eric Young will take on Frankie Kazarian to determine the next World title contender.
Other main card matches will see PCO vs. Kon, and Knockouts Tag Team Champions Decay defending against MK Ultra in a rematch.
The pre-show kicks off at 7:30 PM Eastern with two matches.
**********
The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) defeated Speedball Mountain (Mike Bailey & Trent Seven)
The heel Rascalz got a hot start with a double suicide dive to the floor before Wentz worked over the knee of Bailey on the ground. A missed Bailey split kick attempt led to him eating a flurry of kicks for 2. Bailey recovered enough to land a second-rope missile dropkick and got a hot tag into Seven, who landed a series of back to back dragon suplexes on the Rascalz for 2.
Bailey hit an orihara moonsault en route to Trent landing a superplex and a shooting star from Beily got 2 on Miguel. Bailey tagged back for a seven star lariat on Miguel for 2. Wentz prevented Ultima Weapon and landed a second rope double stomp on Bailey for 2. Miguel ate a superkick and the ref’s distracted before a Maclin chop block to a Bailey tapout off a kneebar.
The TNA World Title match is hyped with a recap video covering the different allies involved in the No Surrender match and the stipulation itself. Kazarian said that whoever wins in that match faces him at Sacrifice because he’s not in this for meaningless matches.
The System (Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers) defeated Jet Setters (KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight
Knight started off strong taking both members of the System down before armdragging Edwards down. KUSHIDA is tagged in after a shoulder pumphandle, but ate a back elbow from Myers before Edwards came in. KUSHIDA landed a hiptoss to Edwards but can’t tag in Knight due to Knight being taken out on the apron. A punt to the right arm of Edwards led to a double-tag.
Knight came in and punched and kicked both guys before taking them down with a dive to put Myers up to land a flat-footed top rope rana from the corner for 2. KUSHIDA put Myers on his shoulders and Knight paid homage to Mark Jindrak with a dropkick to a man in that position for 2. Myers recovered briefly with a desperation impaler DDT. Edwards got a backpack stunner out of the corner before a Myers diving elbow got a fantastic 2.5 count. Knight got a schoolboy for 2 before a combination of the Roster Cut lariat and the Boston Knee Party took out Knight.
Eric Young defeated Frankie Kazarian to earn a future TNA World title match
Kazarian forced Jade Chung to remind the crowd that he is the King of TNA, ensuring that he got heat throughout the match. Kazarian ground away on the mat to start after winning a tie-up and a takedown. Kaz landed a nice back suplex before stomping away. Hannifan talks about how each man got a shot against Josh Alexander in 2022 and came up short.
Kazarian wanted the blind-dive springboard legdrop, but EY avoided it and landed a wonky Roode Bomb for 2. An EY diving elbow off the top got 2 before Kazarian got the Jerry Lynn-style slingshot apron legdrop for 2. Kazarian couldn’t get the chickenwing, but slung EY in after his apron bump for a cutter for 2. That was one of the most-impressive spots in the new TNA era. Kazarian landed a backstabber and Fade to Black for 2.9! Kazarian argued with the referee and an EY crucifix got the win!
After the match, Kazarian yelled at the ref and sent him down with a clothesline before landing a series of grounded kicks and grounded elbows and punches. Tom Hannifan is such a great babyface announcer being offended by all of this logically. Gia Miller chats with the Grizzled Young Veterans, who say that they are in fact Grizzled Young Veterans and they came to America for the TNA Tag Team Titles.
ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) defeated Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) to retain the TNA Tag Team Titles
Gibson and Austin started off with GIbson going for the arm that was hurt in match two before Drake came in and ate a high/low and a Click Click Boom double team splash/legdrop for 2 from Bey. Bey ate a double-team stun gun – giving him a weakness alongside Bey’s left arm. Gibson landed an outside-in suplex for 2 before Drake worked over the throat of Bey more with a chinlock.
Bey landed a desperation missile dropkick and wanted a tag, but Drake sent Austin off the apron to prevent the tag before Drake choked out Bey with a scarf. These two teams have fantastic chemistry and you couldn’t really ask for a better set of teams to be the foundation of a modern-day TNA tag team division. Bey got a desperation neckbreaker and tagged in Ace Austin.
Austin ran wild until being double-teamed and fighting back with a double missile-dropkick! Massive moonsault from Austin gave the faces an edge for a bit before Bey tagged in and landed a frog splash. Bey landed a Yokasuka cutter before an Austin corkscrew senton, but the GYV locked on submissions right after with a rear naked choke on Bey and an armbar on Austin! Bey got 2 off a flip off on the RNC. The GYVs land a doomsday device suicide dive lariat onto Austin on the floor!
Bey stood alone against both members of the GYV and kicked away at both men to give himself a slight advantage until a run-up famouser on Gibson. Gibson trapped him in the corner for a draping lungblower and a Drake coast to coast dropkick got 2.9! 1-2- SWEET ENDS IT and the ABC retain the TNA World Tag Titles in the best of three series.
Backstage, the Rascalz are cocky jerks to Speedball Mountain. Kon came out for his match with PCO looking like the largest grunge bodyguard ever while PCO got a bit stretcher entrance.
PCO defeats Kon by DQ
PCO and Kon started off with clubbering and clotheslines after brawling on the ramp. PCO went for a suicide dive cannonball, but Kon avoided it and PCO went splat on the floor before taking an apron chokeslam. He recovered from that to post Kon and set him up for the draping Deanimator that missed! Kon grabbed a steel chair and he hit him and that’s a DQ. There are DQs in PCO matches!? PCO does the theatrical neck snap while someone rings the bell a thousand times. Do the neck snap on them! Well, he punched them and threw them down – so I’ll count that as close enough. PCO landed the suicide dive cannonball! PCO sent him down with a chairshot before eating a low blow and a chokeslam on the ramp. Kon zip tied PCO to the tunnel and does the neck snapper again…now with a chair to somehow do more damage. This was good before the weird finish.
Backstage, Shelley talks about how he doesn’t want Sabin out there because he’s in the main event. Sabin demands that the Jet Setters absolutely can’t throw the towel in and Shelley tells them to not throw it in no matter what.
MK Ultra (Killer Kelly & Masha Slamovich) defeated Decay (Rosemary & Havok to win the TNA Knockouts Tag Team titles
All four women brawled on the floor to start before Havok worked over Slamovich before landing a corner lariat. A Rosemary tag in led to an exploder for 2. Kelly tripped up Rosemary for 2. Slamovich earned her name slamming Kelly on Rosemary twice. A Kelly slap is countered into a Rosemary rainmaker for 2. Rosemary and Kelly went back and forth with creepy pin counters for 2 before Slamovich cane in. Rosemary got an edge-o-matic on Slamovich before a double tag. Havok landed a spinebuster to Kelly for 2. Rosemary wanted a spear but ate a Snow Plow for the win!
MK Ultra got a couple of cheap shots in after the match before Dani Luna and Jody Threat made the same. The System tells Moose that they saved him from the Border City Stretch last night, but they won’t throw in the towel. Rehwoldt talks up how deranged Gotch is and how bitter he became over seeing what kind of success Alexander has had.
Josh Alexander defeated Simon Gotch
Gotch and Alexander started off with strong, intense matwork before Gotch goes for finger manipulation to get an advantage. Gotch and Alexander exchange sick uppercuts and chops respectfully. One fantastic thing about this program for Gotch is that it’s giving him a chance to rewrite that name from being comedy into something more serious – it’s a shame that the Gotch name was used for comedy in that regard.
Gotch sent Alexander down on the apron before posing next to Rehwoldt and saying that THEY ARE MANLY! Gotch shot the half for 2 before locking on an armbar on the right arm before switching on the surgically-repaired left arm. Alexander landed rolling Germans and stopping at four before Gotch grabbed the rope and landed a back elbow and a kick to the ear of Alexander.
Both men exchange hard slaps to the jaw before Gotch nails him with a head-trapped knee to the face. A Gotch senton missed, but an Alexander splash to the back on the apron didn’t. They go for a fantastic near-countout barely making it in before 10 in a rare non-AEW example of a countout working well in North America. Back and forth forearm exchanges set up a giant Gotch boot before an Alexander one and they go even on lariats too. A running boot gives Alexander the edge and a “this is awesome” chant.
Alexander got 2 on an exploder and wanted a C4 Spike, but Gotch avoided it into a bulldog choke by moving the headgear around. Alexander used the headgear to slip out of the choke and got the ankle lock. Powerbomb backbreaker and the C4 Spike end it for Alexander!
0 AJ Francis meets with Rich Swann and tells him that it must be hard to see a former World Champion like Alexander succeeding while he’s losing on Xplosion. Francis says that just because they’re opponents on Thursday doesn’t mean they’re enemies. AJ Francis is doing the best work of his career in this TNA run.
Moose defeated Alex Shelley to retain the TNA World Title in a No Surrender Match
Shelley started off quickly with punches and diving forearms in the corner before he ground away on the left arm. Moose used the good arm for a snake eyes attempt that Shelley avoided and turned into an opening for a left-arm Fujiawara armbar. A Moose escape opened the door for a big boot on the floor and apron powerbomb before working Shelley over with a ringpost bow and arrow.
Moose wanted a slam through the announce table, but an eye rake prevented that and gave Shelley a chance to take Moose down on the floor. Shelley worked on the left knee on the floor until being kicked into the post. Shelley returned the favor and removed coverings on the turnbuckle to torture the fingers to try and get a win but to no avail.
Moose recovered well enough to use the good hand to slug away for a while before trapping Shelley’s hands in the turnbuckle for a chairshot. Shelley recovered and sent Moose into the ropes for a draping dragon screw to play off all the work on the leg on the floor earlier. Shelley used a kendo stick on the left leg in the corner before doing a golf club-style swing to it and using the kendo stick for the half-crab. Myers breaks that up by getting on the apron and Edwards gets the stick.
Moose landed a uranage before Myers tossed in a trash can that Moose set upright for a superplex! Shelley avoided that and sent Moose onto his own creation with a powerbomb. Shelley grounded him with a figure four that Moose escaped from using the kendo stick. Moose sent him down with a giant Gunther-esque chop before Moose charged in and was met with another Fujiwara armbar turned into a Border City Stretch!
Moose escaped that but fell to his own spear attempt through a table that sent him crashing through. Shelley grabbed a chain and put it through the mouth of Moose for the Stretch before the System tried to get involved before Knight dove onto them. Moose speared Shelley with KUSHIDA in the ring and KUSHIDA leaves before Moose landed a second spear. A third spear hits using the chain on his shoulder to do even more damage to KUSHIDA’s friend. The usage of the seconds and the towel is very much just TNA putting an official stipulation to the Survivor Series ’94 I Quit stipulation and that third spear was too much as KUSHIDA throws in the towel. I’m pleasantly surprised to see Sabin didn’t turn heel on this one and it set up KUSHIDA vs. Shelley at some point. Ash by Elegance and her personal concierge are out for the VIP treatment for the Knockouts Title match.
Jordynne Grace defeated Gisele Shaw to retain the TNA Knockouts Title
They start off with a cat and mouse game that Grace won briefly by smacking her into the apron, but Shaw sent her off the apron to the floor. Grace calls out Ash by Elegance, who looked on unamused before Shaw gained an edge and landed a tornado kick to the back of the head in the corner. Grace hopped out of the corner and landed a series of slams.
Shaw went for a sunset bomb on Grace on the floor, but had no leverage or power and Grace had her hands locked, so she just stomped her and hit a senton. Grace wanted a Juggernaut Driver to the floor off the apron, but Shaw countered into a Spanish Fly off the apron instead!
Shaw landed a knee strike for 2.5. This pisses Shaw off and they go back and forth with forearm exchanges before a Cody Cutter attempt by Shaw is met with a crucifix for 2. Backfist and the Juggernaut Driver end it – this was an excellent showing for both women. Shaw has never looked better in TNA and it was a fine showcase for Grace as a blend of speed and power.
Jake Something hypes up Ali vs. Sabin as the main event and says he’s coming for the gold. Sacrifice is hyped as the next premium live event for the company on March 8 before running through their taping schedule. Clips air of the legendary Unbreakable triple threat to set up this as the first X Title main event on PPV in 18 years. Ali has his faux-Secret Service and intense theme giving him a main event-level presentation on a global stage for the first time ever.
Mustafa Ali defeated Chris Sabin to win the TNA X-Division Title
They go back and forth with fast matwork to start before a standoff mid-ring after they each go for a dropkick at the same time. Sabin sent him down with a tackle and grounds him with a seated surfboard. A Sabin bow and arrow was turned into a pin for 2. A Sabin sleeper is turned into an Ali jawbreaker. Ali landed a slick 450 to the draped arm on the rope gives Ali an edge.
Ali locks on a crossface and uses the damaged arm as his base for the hold. Ali stomped the arm while saying that Sabin isn’t the champion they deserve. Sabin landed a tornado DDT for 2. A Sabin crucifix into a crossface shows a rare side of Sabin’s submission game before a massive “Ali” chant breaks out. Sabin works heel here with the ref while in the story, Ali should be the heel because he’s putting down the company loyalist.
Ali dropkicks Sabin on the floor and a 450 is avoided and Sabin sent him face-first into the buckle with a hard hammer throw. Sabin dives onto the Secret Service goons to save Ali. The Good Hands came down to distract Sabin, allowing Ali to get 2 off a schoolboy. Clothesline from Hell, Michigan hits hard and the Cradle Shock gets 2.5 when Ali just straight-up kicks out!
Sabin goes up for an avalanche Cradle Shock, but Ali avoids it and hits a sunset bomb before the 450 wins it! Mustafa Ali wins the X Title in his TNA Debut! This was a fantastic overall in-ring story with Sabin as the character babyface, but Ali as the more over man in the match.
I return on another Big Vinny V Show to review the latest episode of TNA Impact.
Our main event sees TNA Tag Team Champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) take on the Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) in the first of their three-match series. I explain how Austin has improved and also how the Veterans were so utterly wasted in WWE NXT.
TNA looked back at Jordynne Grace’s big day in the WWE Royal Rumble in a tremendous video package that stands in stark contrast to other parts of the show.
Elsewhere, Nic Nemeth’s enemies continued to grow, a new challenger for Chris Sabin’s X-Division title emerged, and one segment appeared to be designed to mock this very podcast.
All this and more on the latest edition of The Big Vinny V Show!
Mustafa Ali’s TNA debut will be a big one as he will challenge current X-Division Champion Chris Sabin at this month’s No Surrender.
After an Ali vignette aired on the January 26th edition of TNA Impact, the former WWE wrestler posted a schedule that featured six TNA dates in February and March.
This will be their first-ever meeting.
After gaining his release in late-2023, Ali has kicked off an extensive run on the indies which has included stops in GCW, C4 and PROGRESS among others.
Sabin is in his tenth reign as X-Division Champion, kicking off this latest run at last September’s Impact 1000 when he defeated Lio Rush. He will be looking for his fourth defense.
Here’s the current lineup for the Friday, February 23rd streaming special from New Orleans, Louisiana:
TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace defends against Gisele Shaw
TNA World Champion Moose defends against Alex Shelley
X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defends against Mustafa Ali
I am back reviewing another episode of TNA Impact on this week’s Big Vinny V Show.
Our main event sees “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada return to TNA for the first time in a decade to team with the Motor City Machine Guns. Also, after 20 years in the business, Nic Nemeth wrestled his first match outside the WWE umbrella.
Plus, Jordynne Grace defended the Knockouts title against Trinity in what turned out to be a Royal Rumble preview, and we got one of the wackiest tag teams of ex-WWE guys you could ever imagine.
Chris Sabin will have two challengers for his X-Division Championship at Hard to Kill.
It was announced today that Sabin will put his X-Division title on the line against KUSHIDA and El Hijo del Vikingo in a three-way match at Hard to Kill on Saturday, January 13. The pay-per-view is taking place from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
KUSHIDA is the newest addition to the Impact/TNA Wrestling roster. It was revealed earlier this week that he’s signed a contract with the company.
Vikingo, one of pro wrestling’s brightest young stars, is the current AAA Mega Champion and has made frequent appearances for AEW/ROH. This will be his first time wrestling for Impact/TNA in the United States since 2020.
Vikingohas also been announced for TNA’s post-Hard to Kill television tapings in Las Vegas on Sunday, January 14.
Sabin has been X-Division Champion since winning the title from Lio Rush this September. It’s Sabin’s 10th reign with the championship.
Impact Wrestling’s name change back to TNA Wrestling officially goes into effect starting at Hard to Kill. Three title bouts have now been confirmed for the PPV:
Impact World Champion Alex Shelley defends against Moose
Knockouts Champion Trinity defends against Jordynne Grace
X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defends against KUSHIDA and El Hijo del Vikingo in a three-way match
Impact Wrestling presents their final special of 2023 as the clock moves closer to their rebranded future as TNA Wrestling in January.
NJPW TV Champion Zack Sabre Jr. makes his Impact debut, teaming with former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander against the Motor City Machine Guns, comprised of Impact World Champion Alex Shelley and X-Division Champion Chris Sabin.
Ahead of their clash for the title January’s Hard to Kill, Knockouts Champion Trinity will team with challenger Jordynne Grace against Gisele Shaw & former champion Deonna Purrazzo.
Impact Tag Team Champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) will defend against Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards who have both held TNA Tag Team gold before.
Digital Media Champion Tommy Dreamer will look to extend his run as he defends against Deaner.
Other action includes World title no. 1 contender Moose vs. Rhino, Speedball” Mike Bailey battles Trey Miguel, Jason Hotch against Jake Something, and Frankie Kazarian vs. Sheldon Jean on the pre-show at 7:30 PM Eastern.
**********
PCO defeated Jesse V
The countdown feed started off a few minutes late with a PCO match with Jesse V in progress. PCO landed an apron legdrop before dishing out machine gun chops. Jesse V took him down with an enzuiguri before landing a frog splash. PCO recovered enough to hit a reverse DDT and finished him off with a PCO-Sault.
Backstage, Jake Something said he’s here to take out Jason Hotch for the final live show of the Impact Wrestling era before Jason Hotch jumped him with a chair. Tom Hannifan hyped up the switch to TNA+ and the inclusion of all major tentpole events being included for championship tier-level members. Rehwoldt says that these two are always available for Impact when needed and thus they’re being rewarded here.
Jack Price defeated Aiden Prince
Price started off strong with a big elbow to counter a German suplex attempt by Prince, who hits a hard chop on the apron. Price hit a hard flatliner for 2.5 before working on the face more with a boot scrape using the ropes. Price sent Prince into the buckle with a face-first burning hammer before a deadlift German is avoided by Prince en route to a rolling kick on the mat. Prince landed an impressive brainbuster for 2 before Price drilled him with a leg lariat for 2.
Prince ran wild with a blend of overhand and knife-edge chops that landed hard before hitting a flatliner of his own. Price poked the eye en route to hitting a double-knee gutbuster for the win – and his first win in Impact to boot! This was a fantastic showcase for both men and they came into this as basically unknown and both had chances to shine and did so.
Backstage, Jordynne Grace and Trinity met with Gia Miller and talk about how they can be friends today and rivals at Hard to Kill. Jordynne said she’s been knockouts champion twice as many times as Trinity, who pointed out that she hasn’t lost it yet – unlike Jordynne.
Frankie Kazarian defeated Sheldon Jean
Jean started off strong with a tackle before they go back and forth in the ropes on a tie-up. Jean dominated on the mat with a neck crank before Kaz fired up with elbows before eating a pump kick out of the corner. Kaz landed a springboard legdrop for 2 before earning a tapout with the crossface chickenwing.
The show-opening video hyped up the main event and the new era of TNA beginning in January with the Hard to Kill PPV. Edwards and Myers came out in matching gear to look a bit more like a cohesive unit.
The ABC defeat Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers to retain the tag titles
The champions gained an early advantage with some double-team offense and quick tags alongside an uppercut to the neck of Edwards for 2. Myers grabbed the leg of Bey to allow Edwards to chop Bey and then drop his gut on the ropes in theory, but he landed thighs-first instead.
Myers tagged in and got 2 off a goardbuster before Hannifan hypes up Myers holding Impact tag gold in 2015 before he torments Bey on the mat with a stretch. Edwards tagged in for a big chop and ground away with a reverse bearhug. Myers came in and got 2 off a back suplex into a uranage. Bey is such a great babyface in peril here and given that he’s usually working heel, that doesn’t come out as much here – but it’s working because the fans are absolutely rabid.
Austin tagged in and landed back and forth Black Mass kicks before a springboard tornado kick on Edwards got 2. Austin called for the 1-2-Sweet and Edwards cradled him for 2 before getting 2.5 off a blue thunder bomb. On the floor, Bey is sent down hard with a spear from Myers. Edwards landed a backpack stunner before an HBK flying elbow got 2 for Myers! That was a tremendous nearfall! Bey prevented a double suplex and Austin low-bridged Edwards to the floor. Austin stomped Myers down for 2. The 1-2-Sweet hits and the champs retain! Hannifan says that 2024 is going to be the TNA-BC era! The Rascalz jump ABC and hold the gold high.
Josh Alexander and ZSJ were backstage and Alexander says he’s come to beat the company’s greatest tag team ever and ZSJ said it’s about time – because the Guns are one of the best teams ever and tonight, he’ll take out the supposed greatest pro wrestler in Shelley before saying that everyone here has a title – but Alexander, so they’ll have to work on getting him a title too.
Alisha screeched on the mic and yelled about not being able to understand the fans and she really hated spending so long getting to this place. She said it’s all about them before Santino came out and ordered her to leave and since she won’t, she’ll face Jody Threat in an impromptu match.
Jody Threat defeated Alisha Edwards
Threat dominated early with a corner lariat series before an exploder landed. Myers and Edwards went after Threat, so the ref ejected them – but not before she hit a flip dive on them to a huge pop. Edwards worked over the back before Threat landed a series of punches to the midsection. Edwards got 2 off a corner basement crossbody and choked her out on the rope.
Edwards locked on a fantastic Boston crab before Threat ran wild with lariats and a Michinoku driver got 2. Edwards avoided a death valley driver with elbows to the head and landed a flatliner for 2. Threat caught her off a crossbody and hit the Shove It/F5 for the win. Deaner vs. Dreamer is hyped up with Deaner having won their prior match, but also being absent over the past two months.
Tommy Dreamer defeated Deaner
The match started off with ECW chants before Deaner said this isn’t ECW before stalling like an AWA Larry Zbyszko match. Dreamer wanted a bionic elbow, but only got the punch combo before Deaner rolled out and they fought on the floor and made great use of the venue’s metal bleachers by slamming Dreamer’s arm on them. Dreamer wanted a sunset flip, but a very long Aloha Arn led to an arm breaker by Deaner to wear that body part down even more.
Hannifan hypes up the 35 year career of Dreamer and how he put that on the line to get this title. It’s kind of remarkable that he’s held so few titles – really about one per decade, with the ’90s having the ECW Tag Title, the early ’00s having the ECW World Title briefly, the WWE ECW World Title before he left WWE and now this. He doesn’t hold titles often and thus every reign is at least memorable.
Deaner bit the left arm to avoid a superplex before going up top and eating a boot to the face and wobbling around to either hold in a sneeze or fall – turns out he needed to fall. Dreamer landed the bionic elbow and a running elbow missed for Dreamer, but a cutter didn’t and got 2. Deaner sent the bad left arm to divorce court for 2 before grabbing the belt and telling the ref he’ll do what he wants before she threatened a DQ. Dreamer got 2 off a schoolboy before eating a lariat and Deaner set the belt up over the top turnbuckle. Deaner got slingshotted right into the gold before a big DDT hit for the win. This was better than expected for a straight Tommy Dreamer match in 2023.
Backstage, the Rascalz say that Hard to Kill will be their rebirth alongside the rebirth of TNA. Santino makes an impromptu tag team match with them facing Mike Bailey and a mystery partner. I love Wentz coming out just looking annoyed while Trey is more laid back and down for whatever. Trent Seven comes out as Bailey’s partner to a pretty big pop.
Mike Bailey and Trent Seven defeated The Rascalz
A giant “Speedball/Trent!” chant started off before some Wentz stalling on the floor and then a Speedball Mountain chant. Seven chops away at Miguel while Bailey lands a series of round kicks to the stomach of Wentz. Miguel tripped up Seven to set up a snapmare and snap PK by Wentz to Bailey.
Seven tagged in, but had to eat a flurry of offense on the floor before getting back in and getting worked over by Miguel, who used Seven’s own hand to fake a hand clap to rile the crowd up. Miguel and Seven went back and forth with forearms before the Rascalz ran wild with a codebreaker/neckbreaker/standing shooting star series for 2. Seven wanted a tag, but Bailey was taken out by Miguel before a superkick sends Miguel down and they got the tag!
Bailey ran wild with kicks and got a standing shooting star for 2. Seven tagged in and ran wild with chops on Wentz before getting a big single-arm powerbomb out of the corner. Bailey sent Miguel into orbit with an apron pump kick before Seven ate a German after wanting a burning hammer. Wentz hit a double stomp on Seven before a seamless dive to Bailey. The ABC came down, opening the door to a Bailey dive. Trent’s burning hammer set up the Ultima Weapon and the win for Speedball Mountain!
Scott D’Amore came down to a big TNA chant and he said it’s coming soon – but 24 years ago, he was with Don Kolov and they all mourned Owen Hart here. He talked about getting a message about some guy named Anthony Carelli when he was here and also signed Josh Alexander here alongside Mike Bailey. He loved seeing Trent Seven and while he couldn’t sign him then, he can now because someone was dumb enough to let him go. Trent signs the deal after telling Bailey that he’s too sweaty – and Seven is now officially in TNA.
Backstage, the Motor City Machine Guns talked about how great Josh Alexander and ZSJ are. Alexander having the longest run with the Impact World Title given its long history tells you all you need to know, while ZSJ is the best technical wrestler on the world – in theory. However, Shelley argues that they hold the gold in Impact, and thus they’re the best. Jason Hotch comes out and says he took Something out earlier, but Something came out hurt.
Jake Something defeated Jason Hotch
Hotch worked the back over with kicks and a modified camel clutch before Something responded with a huge body slam. Hotch got 1 off a superkick using the ropes. Hotch kicked away with shots to the knees and body before a hard thrust kick, but another kick opens the door for a spinebuster to give Something an edge. Something landed a series of clotheslines before a corner avalanche and another mid-ring lariat. Something hit a giant poweromb before winning with Into the Void. Moose comes out and got a bird flip with every “MOOSE” chant.
Moose defeated Rhino
Rhino got an early edge with corner-mounted punches before Hannifan talks about Rhino winning the World title against Jarrett in 2005 while Rhino slammed Moose’s head on the apron a ton. Moose hits Rhino low and loses by DQ. Rhino says he didn’t come here to win by DQ – he wants a street fight!
Moose said he doesn’t need to wrestle, but is told by Penzer via Santino that if he doesn’t wrestle, he’ll lose the World Title match at Hard to Kill. Rhino suplexed him hard on the ramp before a series of ringpost chops, but Rhino wanted one too many and slammed his hand into the post. Moose slammed a chair into the hand twice before going for some corner mount punches and eating a powerbomb through a table for 2.
Moose wanted a corner charge, but ate a hiptoss into the corner-mounted ladder for 2. Rhino tossed Moose into the ref and landed the Gore, but a new ref only got a 2 count on it. Rhino went for a corner Gore before Moose put him in the path of a Gore through a table. Moose hit the spear and the first referee came to in time to count the win. This was the best usage of ref bumps in ages – they were done perfectly with a standby ref there quickly and then enough time passing to have the first ref get up.
Backstage, Kazarian says that he bet on himself to not be a part of someone’s vanity project. He says that for 20 years, he’s done a lot – but he hasn’t done it all. He hasn’t won the World Title and he’s going to make 2024 the year he wins it. Hannifan hypes up Gisele Shaw being an Out Sports top wrestler of 2023.
Jordynne Grace and Trinity defeated Gisele Shaw and Deonna Purrazzo
Purrazzo and Trinity started it off with matwork before Hannifan hypes up the history created in the Impact era before tying it all into how the present stars are the best of the era. Grace and Shaw go at it with Grace running Shaw down with tackles and lariats. A Grace stalling goardbuster hits Shaw before landing a rotating powerslam. Trinity held the ropes open for Grace to dive onto the heels on the floor.
They recover with some illegal double-teaming and a corner uppercut by Shaw setting up some offense from Purrazzo alongside some corner chops. Trinity came in and got 2 off a spinning bulldog before Purrazzo broke it up. Trinity wanted the full nelson bomb, but got victory rolled by Shaw en route to a double stomp for 2. Grace came in and clubbed away at Purrazzo with some big forearms.
Purrazzo locks on La Mistica, but Grace escapes both that and a Queen’s Gambit before a pumphandle suplex hits. Grace hits a striking combo before a Judas Effect sets up the full nelson bomb. Trinity started the Gedo clutch before Grace loses her grip on a jacknife pin for the win. Purrazzo and Shaw go to shake after the match, but Shaw attacks with a full nelson Irish curse backbreaker and then a snap flatliner.
Backstage, Gia Miller talked about Moose’s shot at the World Title and gaining momentum here. Moose said that it’s the last night for Impact and tonight begins a new era for himself because the Wrestling Gold, Mr. Impact Wrestling, and the Five-Star Athlete are all done and will be replaced by Moose – the new TNA World Champion. Okada and the Machine Guns face Eddie Edwards, Moose, and Brian Myers at Snake Eyes.
Josh Alexander and Zack Sabre Jr. defeated The Motor City Machine Guns
The match began with some quick work between Sabin and Alexander before Shelley and ZSJ tagged in for a mat clinic. ZSJ won out to start by popping up from a headscissor before getting lock into a seatbelt cradle for 2 that Shelley chained into a hammerlock. The Guns used their double-team offense to get an edge before Alexander came in to work with Sabin.
Sabin ground him with armwork before bringing Shelley in to deal more damage out. Hannifan brought up how Sabin played a part in Alexander going into the World Title mix by telling him to cash in the X Title to get a shot and that wound up paying off for him. Alexander worked the knee over with a kneebreaker before tagging ZSJ in for some arm work on Shelley’s arm. Alexander stomped on the leg for a bit before ZSJ came back on to twist and tear at the ankle in every direction.
Alexander continued the pain cranking on the leg and they trap Shelley in the ropes where he eats a Pele kick on the arm and a kick to the back of the leg. The Guns use some double-team moves to take down ZSJ to set up a Shelley straightjacket and backstabber combo! Sabin locked on a standing neck crank while trapping the leg before a Romero special double-team bulldog got 2 for Shelley.
Alexander tagged in and landed a huge German on Shelley while the crowd clapped like crazy for him. He went for the C4 Spike before Shelley worked on the bad elbow and sent him into the buckle face-first. Sabin and ZSJ came in and Sabin locked him into an STF before ZSJ turned it into an arm crank, which only helped so much because it opened the door to a discus elbow that led to a Sabin 2 count off a tornado DDT.
Shelley and Alexander want to land their finishes, but avoid them at all costs before ZSJ sends Shelley down with a European uppercut. The Guns lock on stereo figure four leglocks and as Josh went to tap, ZSJ slapped his chest to fire him up and it worked! Sabin tagged in for a crossbody that got turned into an armbar and that itself got turned into a schoolboy. Sabin superkicked ZSJ down before setting up Cradle Shock that ZSJ turns into a double a double arm-stretch! Sabin rolls through it, but then got locked into an even worse position.
Shelley locked on a dragon suplex to save Sabin, but got locked into an Alexander ankle lock for his troubles. Good lord, this has been a fantastic match and a very good show bell-to-bell. ZSJ locked on the European clutch for what should have been three, but was only 2.9 before a Clothesline from Hell, MI hit and they double-team Alexander to gain an edge.
The Guns wanted the double-team sliced bread before ZSJ locks on an armbar and Alexander got an ankle lock – this time on Sabin! Alexander hits the C4 spike to win the match – easily one of the best tag team matches in the history of TNA/Impact. This win set up a few things – Alexander possibly winning the X Title en route to the World Title. You could also have Alexander use it as fuel to get a shot at Shelley saying he beat his partner.
An epic video airs on Josh Alexander vs. Will Ospreay with Ospreay saying he was made a fan by Daniels vs. Joe vs. Styles and he’s wanted to come to TNA because he was a TNA kid. At Snake Eyes, it will be Will Ospreay vs. Josh Alexander II!
Tonight’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV will feature an inter-promotional battle between the stars of both Impact and AAA, taped recently in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Motor City Machine Guns (Impact World Champion Alex Shelley & X-Division Champion Chris Sabin) will team with AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo against Los Vipers (Latigo & Toxin) and former X-Division Champion Trey Miguel.
Sabin will double-dip as he teams with Impact Knockouts Champion Trinity against Chik Tormenta & Dinamico.
Former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander will team with Octagon Jr. to battle former Impact World Champion Moose & Toxin, also doing double duty on tonight’s show.
While their matches have not been yet announced, other stars featured on the promotional image include Jordynne Grace, Black Taurus, Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers, Tommy Dreamer, Deonna Purrazzo, and Laredo Kid.
The broadcast will be the go-home show for Saturday’s Final Resolution streaming special as the company winds down their era as Impact Wrestling ahead of January’s change to TNA.
**********
Tom Hannifan started the show hyping up the blend of Impact and AAA talent we’ll see before a shot of an Antonio Pena tribute was shown. He says this will be an ultra clash between AAA and Impact. The AAA talent in the opener didn’t get an introduction while Sabin got a full intro and Trinity came out with not only a lucha mask to pay homage to lucha libre, but black and white gear to match with Sabin.
The Glow Guns (Chris Sabin and Trinity) defeated Dinamico and Chik Tormenta
Trinity dances to the annoyance of Tormenta, who takes her down to dance on her own terms before being sent to the floor off a flying headscissors. Dinamico comes in to bring Sabin into the fray where he engages in some fast action with Dinamico. They go back and forth with armdrags after a gator roll by Dinamico. Tormenta lands a codebreaker before a double stomp by Dinamico gets 2. The Glow Guns run wild with tandem offense in the form of a Sabin dropkick and Trinity moonsault. Tormenta works with Sabin and misses a double stomp before a Trinity full nelson bomb and cradle end it.
– Backstage, Josh Alexander says that ever since returning, everyone has called him champ but he lost when given the chance at Bound For Glory. Thus, Alex Shelley is the undisputed champion and his son was disappointed when he lost which was a teaching moment for himself because he realized he needed to become the standard of this company again and he’s coming to Toronto for Saturday’s Final Resolution to face the Motor City Machine Guns with his new partner: Zack Sabre Jr.
Myzteziz Jr. defeated Eddie Edwards and Latigo in a triple threat
Edwards works heel here being cocky before getting thrown into the ropes and coming back with a series of chops. Myzteziz leaps off the second rope to deliver an armdrag to Latigo and use Latigo as a launching pad to do one on Edwards as well. Edwards lands a stinger splash in the corner on Myzteziz before Latigo lands a buzzsaw kick for 2.
Hannifan hypes up the announcement of the TNA Plus app tomorrow before Myzteziz lands a springboard rana to Latigo. Myzteziz lands a run-up flipping armdrag to Edwards before doing a few flips around Latigo to create separation before landing a springboard tornillo to Latigo. Latigo lands a frog splash to Edwards that only gets 2 due to Myzteziz before Latigo lands a second rope Destroyer to the floor on Myzteziz, and eats a brainbuster on the floor by Edwards.
Edwards lands a stacking Tiger driver for 2.5 on Latigo before Myzteziz comes back in thanks to the fans’ applause. Myzteziz wants a rana, but eats a power bomb and Myzteziz stops the count by grabbing the ref’s hand. Latigo traps Myzteziz in a tree of woe and lands a rapid-fire crossbody before a suplex gets 2 thanks to an Edwards save. Myzteziz Jr. takes Edwards down and lands a shooting star press to win an impressive outing on the show.
– Trey Miguel sang a Christmas song about kicking Mike Bailey’s ass and says he’s going to get Bailey a boot, then get himself one to break off in his ass before smoking whatever he’s got handy.
– The Motor City Machine Guns talked about closing out the Impact Wrestling era as the winners of the dream tag team match against ZSJ and Josh Alexander because they’re simply the two best wrestlers in the world.
Sexy Star II & Jordynne Grace defeated Deonna Purrazzo and Maravilla
The heels (Maravilla and Purrazzo) hug the ref. Grace and Purrazzo start off with fast grappling before a schoolboy gets 1 for Purrazzo. Hannifan says that we’ll find out who Ospreay faces at the Snake Eyes TNA Impact tapings on Saturday’s Final Resolution Impact Plus event. Maravilla and Sexy Star come in and we get some arm work from Maravilla before she just twirls Star’s hair around a bit for some comedy.
Purrazzo and Maravilla work over Star’s leg in the corner before Maravilla sends her down with a big boot. Star gets a lariat, but goes down to a yakuza kick from Maravilla that Purrazzo gets 2 on. Star lands a superkick on Maravilla and tags in Grace. Grace hits a sliding lariat for a low 1 count thanks to the referee’s bias. Sexy Star hits a V trigger in the corner before a One Winged Angel gets 2. Sexy Star lands a suicide dive to Purrazzo and Grace hits a Juggernaut Driver on Maravilla to win.
– Scott D’Amore recaps all of the events that led to the AAA/Impact event coming together before Shelley talks about how exciting it is to see Impact and AAA together while Jordynne Grace says that she’s back here after a decade and Brian Myers says it’s a dream to wrestle in Mexico after AAA When Worlds Collide changed his wrestling fandom forever.
Laredo Kid and Tommy Dreamer defeated Brian Myers and Black Taurus
Myers sends Kid down with a shoulder tackle before egging on the crowd with sardonic clapping and shows why he’s a perfect player/coach in the modern era. He gets mocked by the fans and tags in Black Taurus while Tommy Dreamer comes in and Hannifan talks about Dreamer being back in Mexico for the first time since 2020 and before that, his last time was with the ECW Originals against the New Breed.
Dreamer holds Taurus for a Kid double axehandle. Taurus charges into the corner and misses before being sent to the floor. Dreamer teases a dive and is only stopped by a cheapshot by Brian Myers and nothing else. Taurus lands a giant headbutt and stomps away at Dreamer. Is there anyone Taurus doesn’t work well with? Dreamer is incredibly limited and he’s making him look as good as possible here.
Myers slows Dreamer down with a chinlock before a DDT gets 2. Myers gets a Russian legsweep and goes for the Roster Cut, but Dreamer avoids it and lands a counter cutter. Laredo Kid and Taurus come in for some fast action as Kid takes Taurus down twice with armdrags and a third time with a poison rana that gets 2.5. Myers teases a dive and Dreamer stops it with a cookie sheet. Dreamer gets a table and Reihwolt says that he has to wonder if Dreamer hugged the ref before the match. Laredo Kid hits a sunset bomb on Taurus for the win. This was a lot of fun and a good mix of modern action, ECW homages and comedy before Dreamer hits a Spicoli driver through the table to Black Taurus after the match.
– Trinity talks about facing Jordynne Grace at Hard to Kill as the final Impact Knockouts Champion and Grace comes in and says that they’ll do what they can to succeed at Final Resolution on Saturday.
Moose and Toxin defeated Josh Alexander and Octagon Jr
Alexander starts off quickly with an ankle lock on Toxin that gets turned into a back and forth cradle between the two for 2. Moose and Octagon Jr. come in and Moose misses a corner charge before Octagon Jr. sends him down. Moose catches him for a fallaway slam and slams him again to assert more dominance. Toxin comes in for a chinlock as Hannifan talks about Toxin also being in the main event, so he needs to be careful here due to the fast turnaround – that’s a nice little touch.
Moose works on the mask of Octagon Jr. much to the chagrin of Alexander and the fans. Moose clubs away at Octagon Jr. before Alexander comes in to run wild. Alexander avoids the sky high from Moose with a big German suplex. Octagon Jr. hits a 619 to the spine before landing a sliced bread on the apron. The faces hit stereo crossbody blocks on the ropes. A 450 hits for Octagon before Moose breaks it up. Moose’s massive dropkick gets 2 on Alexander.
Moose misses a corner charge kick and eats an Octagon gamenguri before a tornillo splash gets 2 for Octagon. Alexander comes in and charges away at Toxin in two corners before Toxin gets a straight-jacket German into the buckle! Toxin lands a crazy dive on the floor to Alexander , leaving Moose with Octagon. Moose lands a big chop, but eats a massive cutter for 2. Moose’s spear hits and Moose wins it.
Backstage, Tommy Dreamer talks about being in the last Impact Wrestling show ever and he calls Deaner an underrated wrestler. 2023 was the worst year of his life until he won this title – and that gave him his love for pro wrestling back. His final resolution is to take this title into the first TNA show of the new era.
Speaking of the new era, Kazuchika Okada is returning to TNA at the Snake Eyes tapings in Las Vegas on January 14th.
El Hijo del Vikingo & Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) defeated Trey Miguel & Los Vipers (Toxin & Latigo)
Toxin and Latigo are back in action here with Trey Miguel, who starts things off with Shelley. Miguel and Shelley engage in a lot of matwork and Rehwoldt talks about wanting to see this match again in singles form for the World title. Sabin works for a bit with Latigo, who heels it up nicely with the crowd before Sabin fakes him out and lands an elbow drop. Toxin works over Shelley with a grounded octopus stretch before Sabin runs in for a save and more fast action.
Latigo locks on a wacky standing figure four on Sabin before Vikingo comes in to chop Latigo to end that. Miguel works over Sabin from the apron before landing a slingshot double stomp for 2. Vikingo hits Latigo with a crazy headscissors takedown and then a springboard frog splash gets 2. Shelley locks Toxin in a crossface before Latigo saves, only to be locked in an STF alongside Toxin from both Machine Guns.
Vikingo lands a crazy dive onto Miguel before he sends Toxin down with a springboard dropkick. Vikingo aims to cave Miguel’s chest in with a “VIVA MEXICO!” overhand chop, leading to a quick chop exchange and then a variety of back and forth enziguris. Miguel flies, but is caught by Vikingo in a backbreaker-setup GTS. Vikingo’s second-rope phoenix splash ends a very fun episode of Impact.
The main event and the triple threat were both well-worth going out of your way to watch.
Tonight, Impact Wrestling moves on from its 1000th episode and continues the road to Bound for Glory.
The X-Division Championship will be on the line as Chris Sabin defends against Alan Angels. Sabin, the most decorated wrestler in X-Division history, began his 10th reign with the championship by defeating Lio Rush at Impact 1000.
Angels put himself in line for an X-Division title shot by winning an Ultimate X match on Impact 1000.
Knockouts Champion Trinity is set for non-title action against Gisele Shaw. They were part of a star-studded 10-woman tag match at Impact 1000 where Trinity, Awesome Kong, Gail Kim, Mickie James & Jordynne Grace defeated Shaw, Savannah Evans, Angelina Love, Deonna Purrazzo & Tasha Steelz.
“Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham is part of tonight’s lineup. Bailey has a match against Will Ospreay scheduled for Bound for Glory on October 21.
Tommy Dreamer & Heath vs. Kenny King & Sheldon Jean in a Memphis street fight, Rhino in action, and a goodbye ceremony for Yuya Uemura are also set for tonight. The BTI (Before the Impact) match is Sami Callihan & Rich Swann vs. Laredo Kid & Black Taurus.

BFI Preshow
Iceman’s Intel saw George Iceman talk about hearing rumours that Trinity was going to be attacked by someone this week, but he couldn’t find out who it was, speculating that it could be someone new, or a returning star.
Sami Callihan & Rich Swann defeated Black Taurus & Laredo Kid
This was a very good tag match, though I am a bit surprised Callihan and Swann won with Callihan likely leaving Impact soon. Maybe he’ll work as a freelancer there instead.
Impact Wrestling Main Card
The show opened summarizing Impact 1000!
Impact X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defeated Alan Angels to retain
Angels is looking to build of his Ultimate X win, cashing in for his title shot right away, and isolating the arm of Sabin in the early part of the match. The heat segment here was long, with Sabin selling consistently for the first few minutes of the match, firing back every now and then with chops, adhering to the Ricky Steamboat method of selling.
Sabin hit a dropkick after Angels hit the ropes. Angels countered a Cradle Shock into a Rings of Saturn, but Sabin rolled it back into a pin attempt to break the submission. Sabin hit a Yakuza kick in the corner and went for a tornado DDT, but fought out and hit a tornado arm breaker. Angels went back to the Rings of Saturn, but Sabin went right to the ropes.
Angels shoved Sabin into the referee and hit a low blow before hitting the halo kick for a 2-count. Sabin dodged a splash and then hit a missile dropkick to the back of Angel’s head before hitting the Cradle Shock for the win.
–As Sabin celebrated, he was interrupted by a video highlighting KENTA, before announcing him returning at Bound for Glory. It looks like KENTA will be challenging Sabin at the PPV.
–Alex Shelley was with Gia Miller and talked about how he respected Josh Alexander, but that he was an emotional guy, so Alexander needs to respect him and the fact that Shelley is the current champion, and it is not Alexander’s belt. It is his until Alexander takes it. This was very good.
Rhino defeated Jack Price
Rhino crushed Price in this match, as Price acted as a pinball that was bounced around the ring for him. The crowd was super into Rhino, and popped huge when he hit a Gore for the win.
–Paying Rhino back for his attack from the last few weeks, Maclin came out and attacked Rhino. After a brawl, Rhino was left in the ring, with Maclin making a strategic retreat.
–Deonna Purrazzo walked up to Tasha Steelz and welcomed her back, asking to become a tag team, and Steelz agreed, since they both have a great championship lineage.
–Alisha Edwards and Eddie Edwards were backstage talking about how their feud with Kazarian wasn’t over, because while Traci Brooks beat Alisha Edwards, Kazarian did not beat him. Kazarian walked up and said that Edwards was right and that they needed to end it in the ring, and Kazarian was going to management to ask them to find a way for there to be a definitive winner.
–Joya made their way down to the ring for Yuya Uemura’s last appearance as a young lion in Impact. Hendry talked about how he had no regrets about teaming with Uemura, and then led the fans in a chant saying, “Thank you!” to Uemura. Just as Uemura was saying thanks to the fans, The Rascalz interrupted.
The Rascalz said that Joya was the only tag team in the company that had an excuse for not being champions because Uemura got fired, whereas the rest would lose to the best team. Hendry said that it was a bit ironic that Wentz & Miguel said that since they were the 2nd and 3rd best Rascal. Both groups broke into a brawl, and Santino’s music hit.
Santino them booked The Rascalz against Joya, though it isn’t a title match, but if Joya won, Uemura got to keep his job.
The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachery Wentz) defeated Joya (Joe Hendry & Yuya Uemura)
Hendry started the match beating on Wentz before tagging out to Uemura. Miguel stunned Uemura on the middle rope and started getting the heat on Uemura. Wentz hit a slingshot senton for a 2-count. As this was happening the announcers noted that this was the first time someone who ever got the “fired” briefcase in Feast or Fired had a chance to save their career.
Hendry tagged in and hit fallaway slams on both Wentz and Miguel before grabbing both and tossing them at the same time with a 3rd fallaway slam. Hendry and Uemura hit the One Hit Wonder on Wentz, but he barely kicked out. The fans really started getting behind Uemura and Hendry here, with everyone exchanging big moves. They hit the One Hit Wonder on Miguel for another two count because Wentz made the save. This led to Miguel spraying Uemura in the face with spray paint and pinning him. Uemura is on his way back to New Japan.
–Gia Miller interviewed Gisele Shaw about Shaw’s upcoming match with Trinity. Shaw talked about beating Trinity tonight in order to get a match at Bound for Glory.
–Deaner was in a pretape video, and screamed about returning to his throne that Eric Young took.
Heath & Tommy Dreamer defeated Kenny King & Sheldon Jean in a Street Fight
This was your average plunder match, with Dreamer getting the win.
Dreamer and Heath started the match brawling all over ringside with King and Jean, and it was your standard hardcore match from there, with Dreamer using plunder and bumping into plunder, like King hitting a spinebuster into a garbage can. King choked Dreamer with his shirt, as Jean grabbed a chair. King yelled “This is your DMC?” at the audience, referring to the Digital Media Championship, but I can’t help but hear “Devil May Cry” and be momentarily confused. The pains of being a gamer and wrestling fan.
Heath ran in and hit a Wake Up Call on Jean. Heath setup a table in the corner as King and Jean recovered. Heath went to hit a Death Valley Driver through the table, but King saved Jean and hit a spinning kick. King went to the top rope but was cut off by Dreamer. Dreamer grabbed a ladder and bridged it in the corner, but King shoved Dreamer and he fell between the rungs. King hit a blockbuster on Dreamer, and then blocked a Wake Up Call from Heath. King hit a torneo plancha to the floor. Jean tried to hit a bionic elbow on Dreamer, but Dreamer picked him up and hit a Death Valley Driver through the table for the win.
–Crazzy Steve ran down to the ring and hit Dreamer with his briefcase, saying that Dreamer was his next target.
–Tom Hannifan announced the Impact Hall of Fame ceremony would be on the preshow for Bound for Glory.
–ABC was backstage talking about how the Rascalz paid off The Good Hands, but now they had their tag team title briefcase, and the Rascalz couldn’t keep them away forever. ABC then said they had unfinished business with the Good Hands, so they challenged them in a Fan’s Revenge match, where they can use leather straps against them. John Skylar walked up and said that as much as he would love to fight them, Jason Hotch was at home with his newborn baby. ABC then said it was simple – find a partner to take his place. Skylar insisted he had friends.
Jonathan Gresham defeated Mike Bailey
This match was great, and an awesome heel turn. It’s simplicity was fantastic, and played off the story that everyone was beating Gresham by cheating, and Gresham was tired of it. I really liked this.
Gresham entered the ring looking frustrated, as his Impact run thus far has been less than stellar, having to face people who didn’t abide by a pure wrestling rules style. Mike Bailey wanted to show him that there are still people in wrestling who prefer an honest, pure, and fair style. This led to many great exchanges in the early part of the match with technical wrestling mixed with a little high flying from Bailey.
Bailey and Gresham continue to be two incredible workers, and the fans gave them the reaction they deserve. Bailey hit a series of hard kicks on the floor, sending Gresham to his knees. Bailey then hit a corkscrew Asai moonsault to the floor on Gresham. Gresham, however, turned it around in the ring with a brutal looking Boston crab, but Bailey made the ropes to escape.
Gresham had a familiar exchange of vertical suplex attempts until Gresham was able to finally get one, before transitioning into a sleeper as soon as Bailey kicked out. Gresham hit a big back elbow, and as Bailey kicked out twice, Gresham went for a 3rd pinfall and yanked the tights to pin Bailey, cheating to win.
–Moose & Myers were backstage talking about how they dominated the tag division, which is a stretch, but since they are heels they can exaggerate. Moose said he was going to get a warm up next week for his future world title shot.
–Steve Maclin walked up to Bully Ray backstage and said that he helped Ray with PCO many times. Ray said that he would talk to Rhino for him, because they have been friends for 25 years. Maclin accused Ray of being soft, and nostalgic because he had Devon back.
Trinity defeated Gisele Shaw (w/ Jai Vidal & Savannah Evans)
This was easily Trinity’s best match in Impact thus far. Shaw brought out the best in Trinity and vice versa. Very good main event.
Trinity ducked under a clothesline attempt from Shaw before hitting a legdrop for a 2-count. Trinity chopped Shaw in the corner and hit a snapmare. Trinity danced around Shaw and hit a clothesline off the ropes for a 2-count. Shaw threw Trinity into the ring steps to start turning the match around. Shaw managed to hit a knee off the top rope while holding Trinity’s head, driving Trinity into the mat.
The fans were very into Trinity throughout this match, and even more so during the heat segment with chants and cheers. Shaw stepped on the back of Trinity’s head to a chorus of boos before hitting a snap suplex for a 2-count. Trinity managed to hit a Samoan drop after Shaw hit the ropes for a two count. Trinity hit a crossbody off the middle rope for a two count. Shaw responded with Shock & Awe for a two count, and Shaw began to show frustration.
Shaw went for a running knee, but Trinity dodged and hit a heatseeker on Shaw for a 2-count. As Shaw hit the ropes, Vidal accidentally tripped Shaw as the referee was distracted by Evans. Trinity immediately put on the Star Struck submission and got the win.
–Vidal and Evans attacked Trinity after the match but Mickie James ran down and made the save, and they both sent Evans and Vidal packing. Mickie James grabbed a mic and said that she was friends with Trinity, and that she would always have her back. James said that she was so happy to see Trinity come through the doors of Impact to win the Knockouts championship, but she did want a title shot as she has never faced Trinity in a match before.
James then talked about the rematch clause in her contract for the title James never lost, and challenged Trinity for a match at Bound for Glory. Trinity shook James’ hand as the show went off the air.
Final Thoughts
This was a very good Impact this week. Lots of angles being setup, and lots of interesting things heading into Bound for Glory. Nothing came off that George Iceman thing from before the show, but we will see if they return to that in the weeks to come.

Chris Sabin is once again the Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion.
Sabin extended his all-time record of X-Division title reigns to 10 by defeating Lio Rush in the main event of Impact Wrestling’s 1000th episode, using a Shellshock and a Cradle Shock to pin Rush for the Championship.
The X-Division title match capped night one of a two-night event celebrating 1000 episodes of Impact. Night one aired on Thursday, September 14, while night two will air on Thursday, September 21. Both episodes were taped September 9 in White Plains, New York.
In addition to the all-time record of 10 X-Division reigns, Sabin has also held the title for more overall days than anyone in the 21-year history of the Championship. AJ Styles, Jay Lethal, and Austin Aries rank second in title reigns with six each, while Trey Miguel ranks second in number of overall days as X-Division Champion.
Rush’s first reign with the X title ended at 56 days.
Night one of Impact Wrestling 1000 also featured a Feast or Fired match where Chris Bey, Crazzy Steve, Yuya Uemura, and Moose each secured a briefcase. The contents of the briefcases will be revealed on next week’s episode, where three will contain contracts for future title matches, while one will contain termination papers.
For two straight weeks, Impact Wrestling will celebrate their 1000th TV episode with several returns, title matches and plenty of nostalgia.
For the first time in seven years, Bully Ray & D-Von Dudley will reunite as Team 3D and will be in action. This will be their first appearance together in Impact since October 2014.
X-Division Champion Lio Rush will defend the title against multi-time champion Chris Sabin.
The infamous Feast or Fired match returns as 20 wrestlers will compete for four briefcases hung above the ring. Three will contain slips for future Impact title matches while the other will have a “fired” slip.
Former Knockouts Champion Traci Brooks will wrestle for the first time in 11 years as she teams with husband Frankie Kazarian against the husband/wife duo of Eddie & Alisha Edwards.
After defeating Steve Maclin last Friday, Josh Alexander will share thoughts on what’s next.
The BTI pre-show match will feature KiLynn King vs. Jody Threat.
Our live coverage will begin at approximately 8:30 PM EST.

**********
The opening video highlighted some of the greatest personalities and moments in the history of Impact Wrestling followed by a brand new opening theme for Impact.
The show opened with Impact Wrestling president Scott D’Amore in the ring with a microphone greeting all of us to Impact 1000. D’Amore stated that it would be a two week celebration of the history of Impact and then stated that you couldn’t have Impact without the ground-breaking Knockouts division. D’Amore then introduced former Knockouts world champion and Impact Hall of Famer Gail Kim.
Kim thanked the fans and then introduced a tribute video highlighting some of the greatest stars and moments in the history of the Knockouts division.
After the video ended, D’Amore stated that watching it went straight to his heart before being interrupted by the return of Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, The Beautiful People.
D’Amore had left the ring as Love and Sky made their way down to the entrance ramp. The fans chanted “Welcome back!” as Love and Sky entered the ring to confront Kim. They said the video package was great but didn’t feature enough footage of The Beautiful People. After multiple put downs but Love and Sky, Kim stepped up and stated they could physical if they needed to. Before anything further could take place, the Shawtourage’s music hit.
Gisele Shaw made her way to the ring with Savannah Evans and Jai Vidal and thanked The Beautiful People for paving the way. She then stated that because of herself, the Knockouts division had improved. Sky took exception and we then heard the familiar music of a “Juggernaut”.
Jordynne Grace came down to the ring and put over O.D.B., Tara, Traci Brooks and Gail Kim. Before she could say too much more, Deonna Purrazzo made her way down to the ring and confronted Grace stating that she became Knockouts champion by defeating her. The lights then went out and we were now being greeted by current Knockouts champion Trinity.
Trinity took the mic and thanked every Knockout in the ring for paving the way for her in Impact. Purrazzo put down her only title run and stated to come talk to her when she had three. Kim then stated that Purrazzo could talk to her when she had seven. If tensions weren’t high enough, we heard one more theme music hit and it was that of the one and only Awesome Kong alongside Raisha Saeed as we headed to commercial.
We’re back from commercial and the fans are greeting Kong with a huge “Welcome back!” chant. Saeed grabbed the mic and asked if anyone was going to be brave enough to challenge Kong. Before any of the Knockouts could answer, Tasha Steelz made her return to Impact. Steelz stated that she was going to be the final member on Team Beautiful People. Steelz then stepped up to Kong but again, before she could go any further, we hear another familiar entrance theme take place and it’s the return of Mickie James after a 6-month absence.
James came down to the ring and stated that she was now the fifth member on Team Over alongside Trinity, Kong, Grace and Kim. James stated that their 5-on-5 war next week was going to be the greatest battle in Knockouts history.
– Backstage, Eric Young was with Chris Harris and James Storm, known better as America’s Most Wanted. As the three men were chatting, Impact D.O.A. Santino Marella greeted them as we heard the sound of a bottle smashing in the background. As the camera zoomed up from the broken beer bottle, we see the return of Shark Boy to Impact. Marella stated that he was looking for a deputy D.O.A. and Shark Boy accepted.
Alpha Bravo, Bhupinder Gujjar, Black Taurus, Brian Myers, Chris Bey, Crazzy Steve, Heath, Jai Vidal, Joe Hendry, John Skyler, Johnny Swinger, Jonathan Gresham, Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA, Laredo Kid, Moose, PCO, Sami Callihan, Steve Maclin & Yuya Uemura in a Feast or Fired match
For the first time in 5 years, Feast or Fired returned!
There were four individual briefcases hung high above each corner. Three of the cases contained future championship opportunities that included the Impact world, Impact world tag team and Impact digital media titles. The fourth case contained termination papers. To capture a briefcase, you had to grab the case and manage to escape with the case to the floor outside of the ring.
PCO was the final entrant to make his way to the ring and after the bell rang, he nailed several of his opponents with a cannonball over the ropes to the floor.
Chris Bey was the first to attain a briefcase after a battle with John Skyler, grabbing briefcase #3. After dropping down to the mat with the case and seeing his hungry opposition, he jumped over the top rope and crashed onto several of his opponents on the outside to secure the case. Bey celebrated as we headed to commercial.
Back from commercial and Crazzy Steve had briefcase #1 in his hand, threatening to stab Moose with a fork. Moose stepped aside and Steve jumped to the floor officially winning the second briefcase.
Moose was now alone in the ring but as he attempted to go after briefcase #1, Steve Maclin caught up with him and nailed him with the Caught in the Crosshairs followed by his K.I.A. Gresham then attacked Maclin followed by a sequence of Gujjar, Vidal, Swinger and Bravo getting the upper hand before Callihan caught up with Bravo and nailed him with Cactus Driver ’97.
Skyler attacked Callihan followed by KUSHIDA and Knight with a double-team on Skyler. Taurus and Laredo Kid then got involved but JOYA was quick to enter the melee and as Hendry guarded the ring, Uemura grabbed briefcase #4.
Uemura dropped down to the mat but Callihan was waiting for him and it was soon a game of keep away. Hendry took one for JOYA as he was charged by Callihan. Yuya Uemura capitalized on the advantage and dropped to the floor to solidify the third victory in this match.
PCO looked to be the final competitor to achieve potential greatness in this match as he stood tall in the middle of the ring before being met by Jai Vidal’s dancing. PCO would have none of it however as he chokeslammed Vidal before heading to grab the final case.
Callihan caught up with PCO and drove him off the top rope hard to the floor below. Before Callihan could capitalize, it was once again a melee of offense by various competitors before Heath battled it out with Maclin.
Maclin managed to grab briefcase #2 and as he headed to the mat, drove the case into the head of Heath. Maclin then looked for a way to escape with the final case to the floor but he was in no man’s land. PCO re-entered the ring but before he could attack Maclin, Rhino appeared out of nowhere and nailed Maclin with a massive gore!
As Rhino nailed Maclin, briefcase #2 flew out of the ring and into the hands of Moose as he was declared the final winner in the match.
– Backstage, Gia Miller was with Chris Sabin and Miller stated that Sabin had the opportunity to become a 10x Impact X-Division champion tonight. Sabin stated that he didn’t respect Rush and he would make history and become the first ever 10x X-Division champion.
In the ring, Champagne Singh was in the ring with Rohit Raju, better known as the Desi Hit Squad. Raju asked for anyone to name a tag team that had done more for the company than them.
Hmmmm…
Team 3D’s music hit and we saw the return of Brother Ray and Brother Devon for the first time in seven years!
Team 3D defeated Desi Hit Squad
While the Desi Hit Squad showed some offence, this match was all about nostalgia. After hitting their patented “WASSUP”, it was followed up by “Devon… Get the Tables!”
Devon grabbed a table from underneath the ring and after it was setup in the ring, Devon and Ray hit the 3D on Singh to score the quick victory over the Desi Hit Squad but the victory however wasn’t through the table.
Hmmmm…
Devon grabbed Roju and after Ray planted himself on top of the turnbuckle, Devon tossed Roju to Ray as Tom Hannifan stated ‘Somewhere Dixie Carter is having a heart attack watching this”.
– Backstage, Josh Alexander was walking around as The Rascalz were chilling on the floor eating pizza with a mess around them. Alexander wasn’t impressed and tossed Trey Miguel’s backpack down the hallway and told them to step up before he headed to the ring.
– Josh Alexander was in the ring. He stated that every time he walks down the ramp and into the ring it’s surreal. An emotional Alexander looked into the camera and stated just like everyone in the arena, he was an Impact fan. Alexander then stated that he never lost his Impact world championship but before he could continue, Alex Shelley’s music hit and he made his way to the ring.
Shelley stated that when people would think about Impact 1000, they would think of him. Alexander touted Shelley’s success, winning the title but Shelley ran him down asking him if he was an Alex Shelley fan or an Alex Shelley mark?
Alexander stated that he got the ball and carried the ball for the past four years. Shelley said that if Alexander wanted the match for the world title then he wanted it to. Before anything could be finalized however, The Rascalz attacked both men leaving Alexander laying in the ring as Shelley ungracefully headed up the entrance ramp, world title in hand.
– Backstage, The Rascalz were greeted by deputy D.O.A. Shark Boy. He said he saw what happened and told Trey Miguel that he would face Josh Alexander next week. Santino Marella arrived on scene and told Shark Boy that he was a natural as a deputy before being interrupted by Kenny King and Sheldon Jean. King demanded matches against Heath and Tommy Dreamer but Marella ignored his requests and stated that King would face Eric Young next week.
Frankie Kazarian & Traci Brooks defeated Eddie & Alisha Edwards
Brooks played honor to her Ms. Brooks character in her attire, returning to action for the first time in 12 years. Traci and Alisha began the match and as you would expect, it was a house of fire from the get go.
It was your typical bad vs. good match with Eddie not caring who his opponent was in the ring and Alisha doing whatever she could to attempt to gain the victory.
Final moments of the match saw Eddie attempt to nail Brooks with the Backpack Stunner, Traci countered with the X-Factor. Kazarian then followed up with a running knee, knocking Eddie to the outside. Alisha attempted to capitalize and attempted to pin Brooks but could only manage a two count. Traci recovered and nailed Alisha with the Fade to Black to land the 1-2-3.
After the match, Kazarian stated the match felt good celebrating 1000 episodes of Impact before directing everyone to the entrance screen. A video package was shown on the Impact Wrestling career of the original Knockout Traci Brooks before it was announced that she would be entering the 2023 Class of the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame.
An emotional Brooks was then shown in the ring being celebrated by her son as the fans in attendance applauded the announcement chanting “You deserve it!”.
– Backstage, Gia Miller was with current Impact X-Division champion Lio Rush. Rush stated that Chris Sabin was scared of him and that he was coming in hot like he always does.
– A video promo was shown of Tommy Dreamer praising his newly won Impact digital media championship, thanking his fans and potentially asking for a physical length extension on the title.
Chris Sabin defeated Lio Rush for the Impact X-Division title
It was back and forth in the beginning until Sabin was sent to the outside and Rush attempted to capitalize the same way he did at Slammiversary. It wasn’t meant to be however as Sabin countered and attempted to nail Rush with the Cradle Shock but Rush luckily escaped.
Rush countered with a submission counter and followed up with a back suplex before going back to his submission attack. Sabin countered with his power and then hit a missile dropkick before attempting to hit the Cradle Shock once again. Rush countered with his own illegal counter by attacking the eyes and after sending Sabin to the outside, he followed up and nailed Sabin with a moonsault.
We’re back in the ring and Rush attempted the Cradle Shock but Sabin countered but Rush followed up with a grounded spin kick. Sabin followed up with a running boot in the corner followed by an attempted Cradle Shock but couldn’t follow through. Sabin locked in a submission but Rush wouldn’t give up.
Sabin nailed the Clothesline from Michigan and followed up with a successful Cradle Shock but Rush kicked out at two! Rush then followed up by nailing Sabin with the Final Hour but Sabin would kick out!
Both men looking for what it would take to be THE X-Division champion and Sabin dug deep. Sabin hit the Tanaka punch followed by the Shell Shock followed by the Cradle Shock and FINALLY it was it for Lio Rush as Chris Sabin became the 10x Impact X-Division champion!
After the match, members of the Impact Wrestling roster came out to the ring to celebrate Sabin’s historic win.
Final Thoughts:
I had the honour of spending a good part of the day with Chris Sabin back in March of 2006. Yes, a very long time ago but as a fan of his back then and now, he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Not just talented but appreciative of his opportunities in the wrestling business. On top of that, a HUGE fan of the Cadbury McFlurry and Smarties.
To watch him win his tenth X-Division championship in 2023… On week one of IMPACT 1000… Are you F’N kidding me?!?
IMPACT Wrestling has done an amazing job promoting IMPACT 1000 and their drops on X have been awesome showcasing their stars on IMPACT 1 vs. IMPACT 1000. The transition of Moose has been great as well.
The return of Traci Brooks tonight and the announcement of her being inducted into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall of Fame brings back memories as well of her career in Canada and how far she went in the industry.
#CongratsTraciBrooks #YouDeserveIt
Finally, Week One of IMPACT 1000 was amazing in so many ways!
