Leon Slater pulled from TNA Genesis card, expected to appear on WWE SmackDown

The rumors of TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater being part of WWE’s overseas tour appear to be true as his title defense at Saturday’s Genesis has officially been pulled from the card.

Announced during Thursday’s AMC premiere, Santino Marella revealed the news to Cedric Alexander in a backstage segment as he and Moose were set to challenge for the title in a three-way. Marella said due to visa issues, Slater would be unable to appear but that former TNA World Champion and current WWE roster member Joe Hendry would be taking his place in the three-way instead.

It’s been heavily speculated that Slater, a UK native, will challenge WWE United States Champion Carmelo Hayes in an open challenge on Friday’s SmackDown from London, England. He was originally slated to defend against Myron Reed on the Thursday AMC premiere, but that match was quietly pulled this week. Reed, despite signing with AEW, was reportedly ready to fulfill his commitment.

Slater made his WWE main roster debut at December’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, teaming with Je’Von Evans in a losing effort to AJ Styles and Dragon Lee in a WWE World Tag Team title match.

End of X-Division title match at TNA Bound for Glory draws ire of fans

For 20 minutes, TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater and young NXT star Je’Von Evans put on a show at TNA Bound for Glory that ended in a draw, bringing out Director of Authority Santino Marella to add another five minutes.

Then, things fell apart when NXT’s Darkstate came out to attack both men, drawing boos from the North American record crowd as well as those online. After Evans hit a Spanish Fly in overtime and went for the cover the lights went out and the heel faction attacked both men, drawing “f**k these guys” chants.

The match was then declared a no contest.

The angle is assumed to be leading to a match with Evans and Slater joining forces against the faction, but that wasn’t what fans wanted to see unfold on Sunday.

With the decision, Slater retains the title he first won at July’s Slammiversary.

TNA Bound for Glory ongoing quick results:

  • The IInspiration defeated The Elegance Brand to retain the Knockouts Tag Team titles

**********

Taped in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Tom Hannifan & Matthew Rehwoldt were on commentary.

Moose defeated AJ Francis (9:23 aired)

Francis is wearing gear in tribute to (I think) the Seattle Seahawks. Before the match got underway, Order 4’s Secret Service and Mustafa Ali came out, with Ali joining the commentary team for this match. Moose caught Francis with a nice dropkick to send him to the floor. Moose followed, and Ali distracted Moose so Francis could get a jump on him and take control.

Moose did a great job getting the crowd behind him while he tried to power Francis up for a suplex. But Francis reversed it so that was disappointing. Ali was disparaging the members of The System on commentary while Francis dropped Moose with a back suplex.

After a long break, AJ tried to suplex Moose, but Moose reversed it to a big pop. Francis came back with his pop up forearm, then shouted about money. Moose yanked Francis out of the ring and whipped him into the steel steps. Francis came back and powerbombed Moose on the ring apron. Back in the ring, Francis avalanched Moose. Then Moose did that running knee in the corner where he flips himself over the top rope that feels like a tribute to his most embarrassing moment in WWE.

Moose started to come back. Moose avoided a choke slam to hit a headbutt, then ran up the ropes and hit a springboard crossbody in a scary show of athleticism. Francis used the referee to avoid a tackle from Moose, then hit a spear for a near fall. Meanwhile on the floor, Ali had one of his Secret Service distract the ref. Ali ran in and super kicked Francis by mistake. Moose took out the Secret Service guy with a boot, then hit a spear on Francis for the victory. This match alone was about 10x better than last week’s entire show. Also I think Francis is starting to grow on me.

After the match, Moose challenged Ali to a one-on-one match at Victory Road.

— In the back, the other members of the System promised problems for the Nemeth Brothers tonight, and Order 4 down the road.

Joe Hendry v. Eric Young

So actually this was a setup, as Young changed the match to Northern Army member Travis Williams.

Joe Hendry defeated Travis Williams (3:14)

Young and Judas Icarus were ejected for interference. Williams jumped Hendry from behind but otherwsie got pretty much squashed. Hendry hit an Attitude Adjustment and the Standing Ovation to get the pinfall.

After the match, Young gave Williams and Icarus piledrivers as punishment for the loss.

— Matt Cardona dared Ryan Nemeth to stick his nose in Cardona’s business again.

Victoria Crawford’s Podcast. This segment was awful. It was an interview segment with Crawford interviewing Gia Miller on the entrance stage. Crawford accused Miller of keeping Tessa Blanchard at home, because Blanchard was suspended for attacking Gia Miller back at Slammiversary. Miller got in Crawford’s face, the crowd booed Crawford’s performance, and Jody Threat ran out to settle things down. Crawford promised (threatened?) to do the segment every week.

Myron Reed  defeated Jake Something in a four-way match with Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz for an X-Division Title Match at Victory Road.

Leon Slater was on commentary.

It was the Rascalz v. Jake Something to start. And Something took a lot of punishment but refused to go down. Eventually all three Rascalz took out Something with a triple plancha to the floor.

WIth Something out of it for a bit, the Rascalz went at it in the ring. Something came back and took out all three Rascalz. Something powerbombed Wentz onto the other two Rascalz and got some near falls off of that. The Rascalz only stood a chance against Something when they triple teamed him. To that end, the three Rascalz powerbombed Something out of the corner. Something caught Miguel with a Black Hole Slam, for a near fall, but Wentz broke it up. Wentz hit a springboard cutter for a near fall, but Miguel prevented the pin. While Wentz and Miguel were fighting over getting the cover, Reed hit a springboard 450 splash on Something to get the pinfall.

Myron Reed and Leon Slater will face off for the X-Division title at Victory Road.

The TNA Injury Report by BioFlex:

  • Mara Sadé is out with bruising.
  • Indi Hartwell and Jody Threat are both cleared but being watched.
  • Icarus and Williams are under observation after Eric Young beat them up.

— Frankie Kazarian offered Jake Something the chance to learn from the very best — himself.

Heather by Elegance (w/ M by Elegance) defeated Jessie McKay (w/ Cassie Lee) (3:06)

Heather went for a springboard moonsault, but McKay got her knees up. McKay went for her finish, but Heather escaped and rolled up McKay. Heather got her feet on the ropes and M gave her additional leverage to get the pinfall.

The Elegance Brand then attacked the IInspiration, so Santino Marella came out and announced that M would take on Cassie Lee after a commercial break.

Cassie Lee (w/ Jessie McKay) defeated M by Elegance (w/ Heather by Elegance) (5:10)

M tried to run away from the match, but the IInspiration drug her in the ring and the match got underway. M dominated from the onset. M hit a pump kick for a near fall. M stretched Lee with a surfboard. Lee escaped and took M down with a series of clotheslines and a spinning kick. Lee hit a lung blower for a near fall. While M occupied the referee, Heather hit Lee with a Drive By kick. McKay took out Heather while M climb the ropes. Lee pulled M down with a German suplex, then a spinning suplex to get the pinfall.

— Steve Maclin ran down his list of accomplishments as International Champion, and promises to make Frankie Kazarian the next name on that list.

— The Elegance Brand’s Personal Concierge asked Santino Marella for a stipulation in the TNA Knockouts World title at Victory Road. So Marella made the match no disqualification and made Indi Hartwell the referee. The Concierge kept talking and so Marella made the Elegance Brand versus the IInspiration for the tag titles at Victory Road, and then also made Masha Slamovich & The IInspiration v. The Elegance Brand in a six knockout tag team match next week. Heather and M had to drag the Concierge off before he gave Marella any more ideas.

— DIY made a match  with Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes for NXT Homecoming.

Mike Santana got jumped. Santana came out though the crow for match, but Trick Williams jumped him from behind. This was really well done, with the camera just catching a hooded Williams before he went out of frame. Williams then took of his sweatshirt and attacked. Williams got the better of Santana until the got to the ring, where security broke up the fight.

Next week on Impact:

  • Mustafa Ali v. Brian Myers
  • Dani Luna v. Indi Hartwell
  • The Elegance Brand v. The IInspiration & Masha Slamovich
  • Frankie Kazarian speaks.

The Nemeths defeated Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards (w/ Alicia Edwards) (11:59)

Nic Nemeth still has a pretty sweet dropkick. Myers responded with one of his own which was okay. Edwards and Myers worked over Nick in their corner with chops and knee strikes. Ryan ran in and got slammed for his troubles. Myers and Edwards clotheslined both of their opponents to the floor.

Ryan went after Edwards eyes and that allowed the Nemeths to take control. Nic avoided a charging Edwards to send him tumbling to the floor. The crowd got behind Edwards while the Nemeths worked him over.

Myers got the tag and hit a jumping DDT on Ryan. Nic distracted Myers, and Ryan hit a leaping DDT on Myers. Nic flew in with a top rope elbow drop for two. Myers crotched Ryan on the top rope, then got the tag to Edwards. Edwards gave Ryan a nice overhead belly to belly suplex. After a clothesline in the corner, Edwards hit an avalanche hurricanrana for a near fall. Nic hit the Famouser for a near fall.

Nic and Edwards took out their opponents standing on the apron, then collided mid-ring. Edwards hit a blue thunder bomb for a near fall. Myers clotheslined himself and Ryan Nemeth to the floor, leaving it Edwards v. Nic again. The Order 4 appeared on the entrance stage. The Great Hands ran in but Edwards cut them off with a tope. But when he tried to get back in the ring, Nic hit Edwards with the Danger Zone. Nic got the pinfall and the victory for his team.

After the match, Ryan Nemeth announced the Nemeths were invoking their contractually obligated title rematch clause for next week. The Hardy ran (well, “ran”) out surrounded by referees to confront the Nemeths. The referees kept everyone separated, and you can add Hardys v. Nemeths for the tag titles to next week’s Impact lineup.

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey wins X-Division title at TNA Slammiversary, Earl Hebner makes cameo

Aided by Earl Hebner of all people, “Speedball” Mike Bailey is once again TNA X-Division Champion after regaining the title at Slammiversary in Montreal, Canada — Bailey’s hometown.

With the referee knocked out of the match late, champion Mustafa Ali called for Hebner to come out from the back and then applied a sharpshooter to Bailey, looking for Hebner to call the match as he did in the infamous 1997 WWE “Montreal Screwjob” with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Hebner, however, hesitated and refused to do so which enraged Ali.

Bailey rallied and eventually locked on his own sharpshooter that won him the match and the title.

It’s Bailey’s second run with the title and the first since October 2022 when he held the title for 110 days.

The defeat ends the 149-day reign for Ali who first won the gold from Chris Sabin at February’s No Surrender. He successfully defended the title seven times.

To this point, it’s the third title change on the pay-per-view as there are new Tag Team Champions and a new Digital Media/International Heavyweight Champion.

Mustafa Ali to challenge for X-Division title at TNA No Surrender

Mustafa Ali’s TNA debut will be a big one as he will challenge current X-Division Champion Chris Sabin at this month’s No Surrender.

After an Ali vignette aired on the January 26th edition of TNA Impact, the former WWE wrestler posted a schedule that featured six TNA dates in February and March.

This will be their first-ever meeting.

After gaining his release in late-2023, Ali has kicked off an extensive run on the indies which has included stops in GCW, C4 and PROGRESS among others.

Sabin is in his tenth reign as X-Division Champion, kicking off this latest run at last September’s Impact 1000 when he defeated Lio Rush. He will be looking for his fourth defense.

Here’s the current lineup for the Friday, February 23rd streaming special from New Orleans, Louisiana:

  • TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace defends against Gisele Shaw
  • TNA World Champion Moose defends against Alex Shelley
  • X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defends against Mustafa Ali

New X-Division, Knockouts Tag Team champions crowned at Impact Slammiversary

Sunday’s Impact Slammiversary pay-per-view started off with two early title changes to open the main card.

In the PPV opener, “Speedball” Mike Bailey became the X-Division Champion for the first time after winning a six-way Ultimate X match.

The end came when champion Ace Austin and Bailey were fighting for the title on the cables with only Alex Zayne remaining on the structure to stop them. Zayne eventually fell and Bailey later knocked Austin to the mat to become champion.

Former champion Trey Miguel, Kenny King and Andrew Everett (a sub for Jack Evans) were also in the match.

In the second match on the main card, new Knockouts Tag Team Champions were crowned as frenemies Taya Valkyrie & Rosemary came together to defeat The Influence (Tenille Dashwood & Madison Rayne) for the titles.

The end came when Rosemary recovered from getting hit with The Influence’s Collab finisher, hitting her modified DDT on Rayne to earn the win and her second-ever reign with the titles.

This is the first-ever Knockouts Tag title reign for former Knockouts Champion Valkyrie. It’s her third current title reign as she also holds the AAA Reina de Reinas title and the MLW Women’s Featherweight belt.

Two titles change hands at Impact Sacrifice

Two new champions were crowned during tonight’s Impact Sacrifice event on Impact Plus.

A new X-Division champion was crowned, with Ace Austin defeating TJP to win the championship for the second time. He ended TJP’s third reign with the championship after 92 days. Austin defeated TJP after pinning him with a double stomp and The Fold.

FinJuice (David Finlay and Juice Robinson) defeated The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) in the co-main event to win the Impact World Tag Team titles, with Juice coveiring Anderson following a doomsday device. FinJuice, who are signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling, are holding the titles for the first time. Anderson and Gallows had held the titles for 120 days, winning them from The North (Ethan Page and Josh Alexander) back on November 14.

Rich Swann in the main event unified the Impact and TNA Heavyweight titles, defeating Moose. He will move on to the Rebellion pay-per-view event on April 24, where he faces AEW World Champion Kenny Omega in a title vs. title match.

X-Division title match announced for Impact No Surrender

An X-Division title match has been announced for No Surrender.

TJP will defend the championship against Rohit Raju at the Impact Plus event that takes place on February 13. This comes after Raju defeated TJP in a match on tonight’s episode of Impact after Mahabali Shera made his return to the promotion by aligning himself with his former Desi Hit Squad team mate, attacking TJP.

TJP had won the title as Manik in a triple threat match against Raju and Chris Bey at last month’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view event. The stipulation had been that TJP could not challenge Raju while Raju still had the title. After TJP won the title and the ruse was revealed, Scott D’Amore then set a rematch between the two for this week’s Impact.

Matches already announced for No Surrender include Rich Swann vs. Tommy Dreamer for the Impact World title and Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson squaring off against AEW’s Private Party for the Impact World Tag Team titles.

X-Division title match announced for Impact Bound for Glory

A six-way scramble match for the X Division title has been added to Bound for Glory.

On tonight’s Impact, Rohit Raju came out and said he would defend his X-Division title. Willie Mack came out to accept Raju’s challenge, but Raju said that he had already defeated him at Victory Road this past weekend and wanted new competition.

Jordynne Grace then came out to challenge Raju. Grace rolled up Raju with an O’Connor Roll to win while Raju was arguing with the referee, refusing to give him the title. Grace thought that she had won the title, but the referee announced since he was not given the title to raise, the title was not officially on the line.

Backstage, Scott D’Amore congratulated Raju on “giving everyone opportunities”. He said at Bound for Glory, he would defend the title against Mack, Grace, TJP, Chris Bey and Trey Miguel.

Other matches announced for Bound for Glory, which takes place on October 24, include Eric Young vs. Rich Swann for the Impact World title, Deonna Purrazzo vs. Kylie Rae for the Knockouts title, and The Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Good Brothers vs. The North vs. Ace Austin & Madman Fulton in a fatal four way tag match for the Impact Tag Team titles.

Jake Crist wins Impact X-Division title from Rich Swann

A title change aired on this week’s episode of Impact.

Jake Crist defeated Rich Swann on the show to win the X-Division Championship. The story of the match was two of Jake’s oVe (Ohio Versus Everything) stablemates interfering to help him win.

Dave Crist got involved in the match and put Jake’s foot on the rope when Swann had him pinned. Swann took out both Crists with a cutter, but Madman Fulton pushed Swann off the top rope while the referee wasn’t looking. Jake then hit a cutter and the Buckeye Drop to win the championship.

The title change took place at Impact’s television tapings in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on July 19.

There was some tension between Jake and Sami Callihan teased during a segment on last night’s episode. Jake said that he won the X-Division title, but Callihan told him that oVe did it. Callihan said he was proud of Jake and happy for him, but Jake then — seemingly innocently — said that he did what Callihan couldn’t by winning the title from Swann.

This is the first singles title Jake has held in Impact. Jake & Dave were previously Impact Tag Team Champions in 2017.

Swann had been X-Division Champion since defeating Jake, Ethan Page, and Trey Miguel in an Ultimate X match at January’s Homecoming pay-per-view. Before losing the title to Jake, Swann retained against Johnny Impact at Slammiversary XVII earlier this month.
