Steve Maclin reportedly wanted to keep TNA release quiet, had creative frustrations

More on Steve Maclin’s TNA departure.

It was announced by TNA on Sunday that Maclin, as well as Myla Grace, had departed the company after coming to terms with their release. However, Fightful Select reported that Maclin had preferred to keep his TNA release quiet, only for the company to issue a short press release confirming his departure.

“We’re told Maclin had hoped to keep the word of the departure quiet, but TNA issued a press release announcing it. They rarely do that, and didn’t consult Myla Grace or Maclin ahead of the decision,” they wrote.

Additionally, Fightful noted that Maclin had been someone who was outspoken publicly about the company’s creative direction, and didn’t feel it had improved once the company moved to AMC earlier this year. The company’s pay scale was also an issue internally, but the majority of TNA talent are no longer on full-time deals, even after the move to a new network.

According to Fightful, both Maclin and Grace are expected have interest from companies outside of TNA.

Maclin had re-signed after being ‘fired’ in storyline

Maclin had re-signed with the company earlier this year following an angle that saw himself getting fired after grabbing one of the Feast or Fired briefcases. Despite this, he continued to appear on television and turned heel, attacking Mike Santana. Santana demanded Maclin be rehired so they could have a match. Director of Authority Santino Marella eventually re-signed Maclin in storyline and granted him a title match, which ended abruptly following an injury to Maclin.

Former World Champion departs TNA Wrestling

Steve Maclin has left TNA Wrestling.

On Sunday, TNA published an article on its website confirming both Maclin and Myla Grace are gone from the company.

“TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Myla Grace & Steve Maclin, effective immediately. We wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp posted to social media that Maclin has been granted his release from the company.

“Steve Maclin has been granted his release from TNA,” Sapp wrote.

Maclin later confirmed his release, writing:

“Last week I requested my release from TNA. I put my blood, sweat, and tears into everything I’ve done over the last 5 years and I’ll always be thankful for my time there. But now, it’s time to STACK BODIES. See you soon”

Maclin last wrestled for TNA at its May 15 tapings at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, where he lost a TNA World Championship match to Mike Santana.

Prior to that, Maclin was injured in the main event of TNA Sacrifice on March 27. He appeared to be knocked out from a superkick early in the bout, and it was called off after two minutes and 18 seconds. However, it was later revealed that Maclin had not suffered a concussion.

Maclin was reported to have signed a new contract with TNA in January, although the length of the deal was not disclosed.

Maclin also won a briefcase in the 2026 Feast or Fired match that contained a pink slip. However, after various storyline developments, he was not fired from the company and instead received the TNA World title match against Santana at Sacrifice.

BVV: Santana vs. Maclin on TNA Impact, go-home episode of AAA review

While AAA spent the week building up the main event of their next big show, TNA ran with what was supposed to be the main event of their last one.

Both of those shows are reviewed on this week’s Big Vinny V Show.

We finally got to see the full version of Mike Santana defending the TNA World Championship against Steve Maclin and it was worth the wait — a pay per view-caliber match on free TV.

Unfortunately, the rest of the show wasn’t much to write home about. The follow-up to Leon Slater’s loss last week was practically non-existent, the other matches on the show were forgettable at best, and there was way too much Daria Rae. But, at least the main event was good.

Meanwhile, south of the border in AAA, we got the final build for the mask vs. mask match between the Grande Americanos as their flunkies squared off in a quite insane tag match. Oh, and they also had a rematch of a thrilling championship fight, and the announcement of a general manager you might have heard of.

All this and more on the Big Vinny V Show!

TNA’s Steve Maclin cleared from injury for in-ring return

Around a month ago, at TNA Sacrifice, Steve Maclin got knocked out within minutes of his World title match. Now recovered, Maclin is ready for his in-ring comeback.

Despite fearing a concussion, Maclin was later provided a positive update on it and was not diagnosed with a concussion. Almost a month later, he has now been cleared for his comeback.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Maclin shared an update on his social media announcing his clearance. ‘”AIN’T FOUND A WAY TO KILL ME YET.’ Cleared & ready to get back to work,” Maclin wrote.

The injury took place at TNA Sacrifice during his World Championship match against Mike Santana. Maclin was caught with a superkick from Santana that knocked him out.

Shortly after, he had trouble standing up while being tended to by officials. As an improvisation, Eddie Edwards ran out to brawl with Santana, and the match was thrown out. TNA referee Alice Lane was also heavily praised after the match for her quick action in recognizing Maclin’s injury.

Steve Maclin relives scary moment from TNA Sacrifice

Steve Maclin recalled the scary incident at TNA Sacrifice where he was knocked out within minutes into the main event. The match was against Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship.

On the latest edition of Boots To Boots Podcast, Maclin detailed what led to the TNA Sacrifice scare and his immediate reaction.

“The energy was there. They were cheering for him. They were booing the crap out of me. And then the bell rang. We got about two and a half minutes into exchanging. We tried to wrestle a little bit to still be kind of there, be a little physical with it, and then we just said, ‘Ah, f*ck it. Let’s throw the gloves off and just start hitting each other.’ And back and forth, back and forth. Mike took off, gave me a good old TNA kick to the gut. I hit him with a forearm and the ropes, and then I hit the ropes, and next thing I remember, the next thing I know I’m on the ground trying to figure out what’s going on with my body even though my head from the neck up is normal.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever been rocked in a match where that’s the complete opposite. Normally, my body is good and you’re in autopilot moving and your brain is like, ‘We’ll get there, get to where you need to’. But this was the complete opposite and it scared the hell out of me at first too, because you see me grab the rope.”

Maclin had a special shout out to referee Alice for her alertness in the matter noting how he often requests to work with her for the same reason. When the incident first occurred, she checked up on him and asked what needed to be done next before deciphering something was wrong and immediately threw up the X symbol.

“Ref Alice, she was there and she was instantly the savior I needed. That’s why I asked for her for the match. I always ask for her in all my big matches, any match in general because she gets it. The referee is always a third person in the ring that you need a part of the match. And for me, she gets it, she listens to me. I call my audibles to her beforehand, and she knows to relay that. She’s good at her job. And she proved she’s very professional at her job that night because she stepped in, she knew something was wrong. And when she was talking to me, I was coherently talking to her, ‘I’m good. Just give me a minute.’ ‘Tell, Mike’s asking what to do’. I’m like, ‘just tell him to give me a minute, just hold on a sec, it’s going to freaking drop down, it’s going to drop down, leap frog, drop down, elbow.’ Seeing me do that with the way I had deer legs probably would not have been entertaining to watch. I knew what was coming next, but my body said no. She called for the ‘X.’”

Maclin detailed that even TNA President Carlos Silva instantly picked up on what had gone wrong given his previous association with MMA.

“That’s when Carlos said even talking with him he knew what happened because he comes from watching MMA for so long with all the fighting in that industry and seeing so many different types of knockouts and what really happened was the whiplash got me so much off and he hit drilled the side of my neck where the nerve is, dangerous spot to get hit. Luckily, I didn’t have any problems after the scans and the concussion protocol I went through at the hospital.”

Following the incident, Santana issued a statement on his sentiments with what transpired. Last week, Maclin took to social media stating that he was back to training in the ring, two weeks after the injury scare.

Steve Maclin comments after TNA Sacrifice injury scare

Steve Maclin addresses the injury scare at TNA Sacrifice labeling it as ‘one of the scariest moments in his career’.

Maclin took to Instagram to highlight the aftermath of the incident at TNA Sacrifice on March 27. Maclin faced Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship in the main event at Sacrifice. However, barely a few minutes into the match, Santana delivered a superkick that appeared to knock him out, forcing the match to be stopped. He initially wanted to push through and complete the match but he could hear Ace Steel’s voice telling him it was over. Maclin wrote that he has been back in the ring training for the first time in the last two weeks under Steel’s guidance.

“TNA Sacrifice was one of the scariest moments of my career. My first instinct was to keep going, push through, and finish the match. Because that’s just who I am, how Marines are hardwired. But it only took one voice to protect me from myself.  Ace looked at me, calm as ever, and said, “You’re done.” No hesitation. No debate. I said “yes sir.” Sometimes you need that coach, that dad voice, someone you have the upmost respect for, to make the call you won’t make yourself. I got back in the ring today for the first time in 2 weeks under Ace’s supervision. I can’t thank you enough. You might have dropped me but you CAN’T FU*KING KILL ME. #MACLIN”

He was immediately rushed to hospital after the scare and TNA President Carlos Silva updated that Maclin had passed all medical evaluations. Even Santana issued a statement after it happened.

Maclin was also set to appear at Maple Leaf Pro Uprising the following day but was unable to attend.

Mike Santana reflects on two years since TNA return

TNA’s Mike Santana reflected on his two-year association with the promotion following his 2024 return.

Speaking on Marks with Mics Podcast, Santana talked about his career trajectory in the past couple of years while juggling TNA and independent schedules.

“It’s crazy. Just looking at the last two years in general, man, it’s been a wild ride. I’ve been able to accomplish so many things. I’ve been traveling my ass off and just going everywhere. Not only have I kept up with a full TNA schedule, I’ve also maintained a full independent schedule as well. I try to epitomize the phrase of fighting champion and just like that grind is something that has always like been my identity. Like that’s how I, you know, got noticed. That’s how I’ve always put in work.”

He also emphasized his recovery from a torn ACL at AEW Blood and Guts in 2022 following which he was unable to compete for 14 months.

“So, when I first got back into wrestling after my injury and being out 14 months and all that stuff, when I made the choice to bet on myself and I left the other place and I left my- the whole tag team thing, I knew I had to hit the ground running and, go back to the roots and go back to what I know, and that’s that grind.”

He revisited the environment at The Theater in Madison Square Garden in March this year when he teamed up with OTM against Darkstate.

“As soon as I came out, everybody was on their feet, and they gave me their energy and I gave it right back, you know? It was just a good feeling, a validation, feeling and something that, it told me ‘Yo, we’ve been riding with you this whole time, you know? They’ve been behind me and, and it feels good, and going back to the Slammiversary thing, right? All those emotions and all the beauty of pro wrestling is that we take you for a ride. We take you on this emotional journey, and I think the last two years I’ve done exactly that. I feel like everything that I’ve been through and it’s had you guys want to ride with me even more.”

Santana is in his second reign as TNA World Champion. He has often been vocal about the impact of wrestling on his life and celebrated three years of sobriety earlier this year.

He returned to TNA at Rebellion on April 20, 2024 and feuded with Steve Maclin. Their rivalry was reignited this year when Maclin blindsided the champion in what was supposed to be his farewell from the company after his contract was terminated via the Feast or Fired Briefcase.

BVV: A disastrous TNA Sacrifice with one match to go out of your way to see

Sacrifice, the latest streaming special from TNA Wrestling, started off great but then kept getting worse until the main event ended in disaster.

Steve Maclin’s injury was the biggest news coming out of the show but even before that, we had terrible booking, wretched finishes, boring matches, and preposterous backstage segments.

However, everyone should go out of their way to watch Eric Young vs. Leon Slater, because Young is one of the most underrated wrestlers of the last 20 years and Slater is TNA’s brightest hope for a future star.

Sadly, there’s nothing else here to recommend but we’ll get through it anyway on the Big Vinny V Show!

World title match official for TNA Rebellion

In the aftermath of Steve Maclin’s injury at TNA Sacrifice, the next contender for Mike Santana’s World Championship is now set.

TNA announced Monday that Eddie Edwards is invoking his Feast or Fired Briefcase contract and will challenge Santana at next month’s TNA Rebellion from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

At last weekend’s Sacrifice, Maclin and Santana went head-to-head for the TNA Championship. However, a counter superkick by the champion saw the result being ruled a no contest after Maclin was knocked out and the match was stopped

Later, he was cited to be walking around without assistance backstage and a concussion was later ruled out by the medical staff but he missed a match at Maple Leaf Pro Uprising the same weekend.

Santana issued a statement following the injury.

Edwards faced Moose at Sacrifice, but lost via disqualification. In January, Edwards won one of the four briefcases in the TNA stipulated classic Feast or Fired Briefcase match.

Steve Maclin thanks fans following TNA Sacrifice injury scare

Former TNA Impact World champion Steve Maclin has opened up and shared his gratitude to the fans after his Sacrifice concussion injury scare.

At TNA Sacrifice, fans witnessed Mike Santana land a superkick on Maclin’s face, which immediately led to match stoppage and doctors checking up on Maclin. Eddie Edwards came out to brawl with Santana as Maclin was helped backstage. Shortly after rumors and speculations rose about Maclin suffering a concussion, although it was later rebutted.

Earlier today, hours after TNA Sacrifice, Maclin broke his silence on social media. “Thanks everyone for the calls, texts, and tweets. You can’t F****ng kill me. I’M BULLETPROOF,” Maclin wrote.

TNA President Carlos Silva confirmed SI’s The Takedown that Maclin was tested at the hospital, where it was determined that he did not suffer a concussion.

Eddie Edwards, referee Alice Lane given All Star Award following TNA Sacrifice

Two people involved in the main event of Friday’s TNA special have been recognized for their quick action following an injury scare.

TNA President Carlos Silva made the announcement on Saturday ahead of the company’s television tapings. He first gave the award to referee Alice Lane, who made the call to stop the match between Steve Maclin and Mike Santana after Maclin was rocked after taking a superkick. She gave a quick speech thanking TNA for the award.

Silva then brought up Eddie Edwards’ name, saying he “stepped up in a big way” by coming out and having an impromptu brawl with Santana for a few minutes.  Eddie accepted the award, saying he was just doing his job and stressed what they do out there is a team effort.

Following Sacrifice, Bryan Alvarez reported that Steve Maclin was alert and walking around backstage following the event but it was feared he may have suffered a concussion. On Saturday morning, Silva told Sports Illustrated that Maclin was not diagnosed with a concussion and was later released to return to his hotel for the night.

WOL: Did Danhausen put a curse on SmackDown?

It’s the Saturday Wrestling Observer Live with Jim Valley.

It’s WrestleMania season, the build to the biggest show of the year. So why isn’t WWE acting like it? Lackluster promos, subpar wrestling and mediocre comedy. It’s like Danhausen put a curse on SmackDown, too.

Plus, there’s good news for Steve Maclin, TNA Sacrifice, MLP & ROH Global Wars, a new TV show and, in kayfabe, why is Jelly Roll just hanging around Smackdown offering words of inspiration? Is he lonely? A WWE life coach? Going to leave music and write Hallmark cards? Hoping The Vision will notice?

A fun show. Check it out.

Steve Maclin injury update following TNA Sacrifice

There is a positive update on Steve Maclin following an injury scare at TNA Sacrifice.

The main event of Friday’s show was stopped early after Maclin was hurt taking a superkick from Mike Santana. Later that night, Bryan Alvarez reported that Maclin was up and walking backstage, though there was concern he may have suffered a concussion.

In an update on Saturday morning, Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI.com reported that TNA President Carlos Silva confirmed Maclin was sent to the hospital after the show, where he passed all medical evaluations, was not diagnosed with a concussion, and was later cleared to return to his hotel.

“TNA president Carlos Silva told The Takedown that Maclin was not ultimately diagnosed with a concussion, as he cleared all of his tests and was released to go back to his hotel for the night,” wrote Jon Alba.

Maclin is scheduled to wrestle in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday night as part of the MLP Uprising pay-per-view. It is unclear if he will still perform on the show.

Steve Maclin likely suffered a concussion during TNA Sacrifice

An update on Steve Maclin following TNA Sacrifice.

The main event of TNA’s show on Friday ended abruptly after Maclin took a superkick from Mike Santana early into the match for the TNA World title. Maclin struggled to get to his feet as medical personnel and TNA President Carlos Silva tended to him at ringside. Thankfully, Bryan Alvarez is reporting that Maclin was walking around after the show, though likely injured.

“Update on Steve Maclin is that he was up and walking around after the show, but the belief is he is likely concussed,” he wrote.

Eddie Edwards eventually came to the ring and brawled with Santana as Maclin was escorted from the ring. The two had a back-and-forth that lasted several minutes that eventually ended with Santana laying out Edwards with a frog splash through a table. Santana was declared the winner “via no contest” as the show went off the air.

Despite being fired from TNA as a result of grabbing the appropriate briefcase in the Feast or Fired match, Maclin continued to appear on television, turning heel by attacking Santana and announcer Tom Hannifan. Eventually he was brought back to TNA and not only put in the main event, but was given a World title match.
