A date has been set for Kenny Omega and El Hijo del Vikingo’s rematch.
At a press conference on Monday, Lucha Libre AAA announced that Vikingo will defend his AAA Mega Championship against Omega at Triplemania XXXI: Tijuana. The show is taking place on Saturday, July 15 and will be available live via Fite TV.
Omega defeated Vikingo in a non-title match when the two faced off on an episode of AEW Dynamite this March. The match was Vikingo’s AEW debut.
The Dynamite bout between Omega and Vikingo was billed as a first-time ever dream match. They were originally supposed to face each other for AAA in 2021, but Omega being injured prevented the match from happening then.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated prior to facing Vikingo for the first time, Omega said Vikingo is someone who is going to “change the way people think about wrestling and change the way we think about lucha libre.”
Vikingo has been AAA Mega Champion since December 2021. Omega held the title prior to Vikingo but had to vacate it due to the injury issues he was dealing with.
Triplemania: Tijuana is the second of three Triplemania shows that is taking place this year.
AEW star Swerve Strickland will be part of the Mega Championship match at AAA Triplemania Monterrey.
Fite TV lists that the Mega title match at this weekend’s Triplemania event will be El Hijo del Vikingo defending against Strickland, Komander, and Rich Swann. The four-way bout has yet to be officially announced by AAA.
Vikingo has been AAA Mega Champion since December 2021. He retained the title against Komander in a singles match at ROH Supercard of Honor over WrestleMania week.
Vikingo made his AEW debut on an episode of Dynamite in March, losing to Kenny Omega in a non-title match.
In yesterday’s Daily Update, Dave Meltzer noted that Omega wouldn’t be Vikingo’s opponent for Triplemania Monterrey — but AAA hopes that a rematch between Vikingo and Omega will take place at one of their Triplemania shows later this year. AAA has Triplemania events being held in Tijuana this July and in Mexico City this August.
Triplemania Monterrey will be available live via Fite TV. Here’s the full advertised lineup for the event:

Due to injury, Thunder Rosa is officially off Triplemania XXX: Mexico City.
Rosa was scheduled to challenge Taya Valkyrie for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship at the Triplemania event. Lucha Libre AAA posted a video on Friday night setting up that Kamille will instead face Valkyrie for the title in Mexico City.
Kamille cut a promo saying she’s heard that Valkyrie is looking for someone new to face at Triplemania because “apparently your last opponent got hurt.” Kamille said she’s here to answer that call.
Kamille has been NWA World Women’s Champion for more than a year. She retained that title against Valkyrie at night one of NWA 74 this August.
On AEW Dynamite last month, Rosa announced that she wouldn’t be able to compete at All Out due to injury. Rosa still holds the AEW Women’s World Championship, but Toni Storm has been crowned interim champion while Rosa is out of action. Storm was supposed to challenge Rosa for the title at All Out. She instead defeated Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Jamie Hayter in a four-way match at the pay-per-view to become interim champion.
Rosa told Busted Open Radio that she expects to be out of action for a couple of months due to the back injury. She also responded to people who have claimed she’s faking the injury.
“This is not fake, not a work. If I can f**king work, I can f**king work,” Rosa said.
“I’m sorry, guys. I want to walk when I’m 40, I want to have kids…I have the right to say, ‘No, I can’t walk, I can’t do it.’ I don’t want to have surgery (and be out longer).”
Triplemania: Mexico City is taking place on Saturday, October 15. It’s the last of three Triplemania PPVs this year celebrating the 30th edition of the event.
Thunder Rosa will be challenging for gold at Triplemania XXX: Mexico City.
At a press conference on Monday, Lucha Libre AAA announced that Rosa will challenge Taya Valkyrie for the Reina de Reinas Championship at Triplemania: Mexico City on Saturday, October 15. It’s the third of three Triplemania shows this year celebrating the 30th edition of the event.
Rosa’s AEW Women’s World Championship won’t be on the line in the match.
A promo from Rosa aired at the press conference. Rosa said she wants to bring the AAA Reina de Reinas title back to Mexican hands.
— Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (@luchalibreaaa) August 8, 2022
Luchablog notes that AAA explained the match as being “a Mexican who’s been successful outside of Mexico [Rosa] vs a foreigner who found their career by coming to Mexico [Valkyrie].”
Valkyrie has been Reina de Reinas Champion since winning the title from Deonna Purrazzo at Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view this April. This is Valkyrie’s fourth time holding the title.
It was also announced at Monday’s press conference that El Hijo del Vikingo will defend his AAA Mega Championship at Triplemania: Mexico City against an opponent who has yet to be determined. Lucha Libre AAA is asking fans to choose Vikingo’s challenger, with Kenny Omega, Rey Fenix, and Psycho Clown mentioned as possibilities.
Omega has been out of action since last November after taking time off to have several surgeries for nagging injuries. He’s hoping to return in time for AEW’s All Out PPV this September.
There will be another press conference for Triplemania: Mexico City next month. Here’s the full list of what’s been announced for the show thus far:

A multi-woman steel cage match was announced for the event as well. The final two participants left will compete in a singles match with their masks on the line. Chik Tormenta, Sexy Star II, Lady Shani, La Hiedra and Lady Flammer have been announced for the match thus far.
The semi-finals of the Ruleta de la Muerte tournament will also take place on the show. The first round of the tournament will take place on April 30 at Triplemania Monterrey.
Ruleta de la Muerte tournament first round matches are as follows:
AAA today announced three Triplemania events for this year which will feature a tournament that will culminate in October that will see someone lose their mask.
During their 30th anniversary press conference today, the company announced that the first Triplemania of 2022, Triplemania Regia III, will take place on April 30 in Monterrey. The second show will take place in Tijuana at Xolo Stadium on June 18, and the third in Mexico City on October 15. These shows will be broadcast live on FITE TV and will have both Spanish and English commentary.
The shows will feature an eight-man ruleta de la muerte tournament, where losers will advance. The “winner” of the tournament will lose their mask. Participants announced for the tournament include Ultimo Dragon, Blue Demon Jr., Pentagon Jr., Psycho Clown, Canek, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., LA Park, and Villano IV.
AAA last held a Triplemania event back in December, Triplemania Regia II. El Hijo del Vikingo won a five-way match on that card to win the vacant AAA Mega Championship.
The company also mentioned during the press conference that they plan on running shows in Dallas, Japan, and Colombia in the future.
At Triplemania XXIX on Saturday night, Purrazzo defeated Faby Apache to win the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship. Purrazzo’s Impact Wrestling Knockouts Championship was also on the line in the title vs. title match.
Purrazzo submitted Apache with an armbar to win the match.
In an interview with media outlet Diario Record after winning the Reina de Reinas title, Purrazzo said coming to Mexico is a dream come true. Purrazzo said she isn’t going to be a lazy champion and will be back in Mexico to defend the Reina de Reinas title.
Purrazzo has been Impact Knockouts Champion since November of last year.
Purrazzo will defend her Knockouts Championship against Melina at the NWA’s all-women’s Empower pay-per-view on Saturday, August 28. It was also announced on Friday that Purrazzo will defend the Knockouts title against Mercedes Martinez at WrestlePro’s event in Rahway, New Jersey on Saturday, October 16. If Purrazzo loses the championship before that show takes place, it will be a non-title match.
After a challenge was issued earlier this month, Kenny Omega vs. Andrade is now official for Triplemania.
Lucha Libre AAA has announced that Omega will defend his AAA Mega Championship against Andrade at Triplemania XXIX on Saturday, August 14. A video aired at Tuesday’s Triplemania press conference where Omega and Don Callis responded to Andrade and Omega accepted Andrade’s challenge.
A video had aired at AAA Rey de Reyes earlier this month where Andrade challenged Omega to a Mega title match at Triplemania. Andrade was granted his release from WWE this March.
The AAA Mega Championship is one of three World titles that Omega currently holds. He’s also the AEW World Champion and the Impact World Champion.
Omega has been AAA Mega Champion since winning the title from Rey Fenix in October 2019. Omega last defended the title against Laredo Kid at Triplemania XXVIII last December.
Triplemania XXIX will take place at Arena Ciudad de Mexico with a limited capacity crowd. Psycho Clown vs. Rey Escorpion in a mask vs. hair match is also set for the show, along with AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Faby Apache facing Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo in a title vs. title match.
Broadcast information for Triplemania XXIX has yet to be announced.
Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo will face AAA Reina de Reinas champion Faby Apache in a title vs. title match for TripleMania.
At tonight’s AAA Rey de Reyes event, Apache won the vacant Reina de Reinas title for a fourth time, a new record for her and the title. Purrazzo, who appeared on the show as a surprise, did commentary for the six-way match. Once it ended, Purrazzo issued the challenge to Apache, saying that she was friends with Konnan, and he told her that if she appeared tonight, she could challenge for the title. Faby eventually accepted the match once Purrazzo mentioned Triplemania. Purrazzo then attacked Apache, applying an armbar then powerbombing her twice.
Apache defeated Chik Tormenta, Lady Shani, Flammer, Maravilla, and a new Sexy Star (not Dulce Garcia) to win the championship. The previous champion, Taya Valkyrie, vacated the title after signing with the WWE earlier this year.
Another challenge issued for tonight’s show had Andrade challenging Kenny Omega for the AAA Mega title, also for Triplemania, which currently doesn’t have a date.
