WWE Day 1 returning to State Farm Arena in Atlanta

Day 1 is heading back to Atlanta.

WWE announced in Atlanta on Friday during their SmackDown taping that Day 1 will return to State Farm Arena on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

“World Wrestling Entertainment returns to Atlanta’s State Farm Arena with @WWE Day 1 on Sunday, Jan 1st, NEW YEARS DAY!,” State Farm Arena posted on Twitter. “See your Favorite Superstars from Monday Night RAW & Friday Night Smackdown compete at the 1st Premium Live Event of the New Year!”

WWE began a new tradition of holding a premium live event on New Years’ Day earlier this year for the first Day 1 event. That show was originally scheduled to have a Brock Lesnar/Roman Reigns match for the WWE Universal Championship. However, Reigns was pulled from the show after testing positive for COVID-19. Instead, Lesnar was inserted into the four-way match for the WWE Championship and ended up winning the title, defeating former champion Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley.

Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss added to WWE Day 1

A new singles match has been added to WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view event.

On tonight’s SmackDown, it was announced that Madcap Moss would take on Drew McIntyre in a singles match. This follows the events of tonight’s SmackDown, where Happy Corbin made the match, much to Moss’ chagrin.

Moss and Corbin have been feuding with McIntyre in recent weeks. On last week’s SmackDown, McIntyre grabbed his sword, named Angela, and stabbed it through WWE official Adam Pearce’s desk after an argument. It was later revealed that Corbin and Moss had stolen Pearce’s desk, with the sword still stuck in it.

On this week’s SmackDown, McIntyre confronted Corbin and Moss after Corbin officially gave Moss the sword. McIntyre came out and went after Corbin, but Moss pulled Corbin out of the ring. Later on in the show, they were shown hiding in a dark room in the arena. That was where Corbin made the match for Moss against McIntyre. Moss didn’t seem to like the idea of the match.

WWE Day 1 will take place on Saturday, January 1 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Brock Lesnar
  • WWE Champion Big E defends against Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley in a fatal four-way match
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Liv Morgan
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) defend against The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston)
  • Edge vs. The Miz
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss
  • Hip-hop group Migos will make a special appearance

SmackDown Tag Team title match added to WWE Day 1

A SmackDown Tag Team title match has been added to WWE Day 1.

The New Day (King Woods and Kofi Kingston) will face current champions The Usos for the titles. This comes based on a match that happened on tonight’s SmackDown, where Woods defeated Jey Uso by disqualification after Jimmy Uso interfered. Backstage in a promo with Kayla Braxton, The New Day confirmed they’d get their title match at Day 1.

The New Day have been feuding with Roman Reigns and the Usos in recent weeks. The Bloodline took out Kofi Kingston, attacking his knee and putting him out of action for a few weeks. Roman Reigns also destroyed Woods’ crown and scepter, which he won after winning the King of the Ring tournament back in October.

Already announced for Day 1, which takes place on January 1, 2022 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, includes a triple threat match for the WWE title involving champion Big E against Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns defending the WWE Universal title against Brock Lesnar.

Kevin Owens added to WWE Championship match at Day 1

Kevin Owens has been added to the WWE Championship match that will take place at the Day 1 pay-per-view event on January 1st.

Owens was added to the match after Seth Rollins interfered in the Raw main event between Owens and Big E. Rollins attacked Owens, giving Owens the disqualification win. Per the stipulation of the match, Owens was then added to the pay-per-view event, with Rollins appearing frustrated as the show ended.

The show opened with Rollins announcing he would get the title match against Big E. Later, Owens told Rollins backstage that he would be added to the match if he won in the main event tonight. Rollins was initially told by WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville that it wasn’t true, but they then told Rollins later in the show that the idea was a good one and they would go with it.

Day 1 will take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
