Former WWE wrestler Reginald ‘almost main evented WrestleMania’

According to former WWE wrestler Reginald, he was nearly inserted into Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair’s match at WrestleMania 37.

Banks and Belair made history in 2021 when they became the first Black women to headline WrestleMania. But the match apparently could have been a triple threat, with Reginald telling Rewind Recap Relive that Vince McMahon wanted to add him to the mix.

“Brother, I have a million,” Reginald responded when Rewind Recap Live asked if he had any stories about McMahon being high on him. “Just one that’s ridiculous off the bat, I almost main evented WrestleMania. It was an intergender match… If I would have been in this match, I would have got so much heat from everyone because this match had such — like, this was a huge match. This was a first… Vince wanted a triple threat between Sasha, Bianca, and myself.”

Around the time of WrestleMania 37, Reginald was involved in a storyline with Banks, Belair, and Carmella. He even worked a singles match against Banks earlier that year. The story was supposed to be Reginald splitting off from Carmella and getting close to Banks — only to reveal that he was joining her match at WrestleMania. Banks and Belair did not respond favorably when they found out the idea.

“So Carmella fired me and I was supposed to fall in love with Sasha, all of these different things,” Reginald said. “So Vince calls all of us into the office. Me, Sasha and Bianca, and we have some producers and writers there. He says, ‘This is what I’m thinking, Reggie, you buy her a dog, she loves you, and you’re playing every week in the middle, but the thing is you have an endgame. You will come out and announce that this is no longer a singles. This is a triple threat.’

“When he said that, Sasha had a look on her face, and Bianca had the same look on her face. And I’m just like, ‘I don’t know what the hell is happening right now. I’m not going to look at anyone, I’m not going to say anything.’ Vince said, ‘Because Sasha and Reginald, you guys have great chemistry.’ And Sasha kept asking Vince, ‘What do you mean? What is this chemistry?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know, it’s just chemistry.’ She’s like, ‘But what makes us have this chemistry?’ He was like, ‘I don’t know, damn it. It’s chemistry.’ We just didn’t get an answer. It was just: chemistry.

“Lo and behold, they came to their senses. That would have been stupid to throw me in that match. And so they went on to have a great match that’s going to live in WWE history for a long time. Can you imagine? Can’t even, yeah.”

Even if he was added, Reginald might not have been able to compete —

It’s unknown if this triple threat actually would have gone on last had it taken place. And the WrestleMania plans likely would have fallen through even if McMahon did decide to move forward with them, because Reginald ended up testing positive for COVID the day of the show. He told Rewind Recap Live that he was supposed to accompany Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler for their WWE Women’s Tag Team title defense against Natalya & Tamina.

“I was supposed to debut in front of a live crowd that WrestleMania with Nia & Shayna, but I got COVID the day of,” Reginald said. “I drove to Tampa, tested, got horrible news. Legit been clean, negative the entire pandemic. First time I get to go, my first WrestleMania — COVID. I have to drive back home.”

During his WWE career from 2020-2024, Reginald (real name Sidney Bateman) was known as Reggie, Reginald, and Scrypts. He noted during the Rewind Recap Relive interview that he’s now “in the midst of getting a deal done” with AEW/ROH, where he’s already worked ROH tapings with his new character Soleil.

Charlotte Flair names the Four Horsewomen as her Mount Rushmore

Charlotte Flair considers WWE’s Four Horsewomen her Mount Rushmore of wrestlers.

Flair was part of the group during her NXT tenure. On Episode 4 of the Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, Flair cited that without the Four Horsewomen she would not have the same passion for wrestling. They inspired each other to level up their game in the ring.

“I always say the Four Horsewomen just because they’re who and why I fell in love with wrestling. Not that I didn’t respect or love or look up to the women before me, had I not, we all have kind of gone our separate paths, but had I not been with that core when I started, I don’t know where I’d be today. They’re the reason why I fell in love with wrestling, got good at wrestling, and we all took it to the next level together. So, that’s my four.”

The Four Horsewomen of NXT comprised of Flair, Bayley, Becky Lynch and Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks in WWE). Their time on NXT led to the evolution of the women’s division on the main roster by 2015.

Flair talked about the rushed tag team with Alexa Bliss on SmackDown last year. She cited the transition from a singles competitor to a tag team did not budge her stance on wrestling.

“It’s not that I never thought it would be successful, but I mean I like wrestling. I like being in there. I like being in there the whole time and I like being able, you know, to dance with my opponent. So, in any tag team situation that I’ve been in since I started, not that it hasn’t gelled, but it hasn’t been like I maybe, I mean it didn’t have the chemistry or it wasn’t given the time to get the chemistry or whatever that looks like. But with Lexi, it just seems like one of those, you know, the best things are the ones that you don’t plan. And this wasn’t planned and it was out of nowhere. So, I think that’s why it’s doing so well.”

Flair and Bliss’unlikely pairing happened last year despite their contrasting personalities. The duo won the Women’s Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam 2025. However, this was not Flair’s first time winning tag team gold. In 2020, she won the title with Asuka.

Barring Mone, who is signed to AEW, the other three ‘horsewomen’ remaining in WWE are vying for gold this WrestleMania.

Bliss & Flair and Bayley’s tag team with Lyra Valkyria are headed for a potential tag team bout. Meanwhile, Lynch’s mindgames were successful to get AJ Lee to issue a rematch for the Women’s Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 42.

Naomi addresses she & Sasha Banks’ 2022 walkout on ‘WWE: Unreal’

One of the two primary focuses of the second episode of WWE: Unreal’s second season was the 2022 departure of Naomi and Sasha Banks and Naomi’s triumphant return, punctuated by her women’s Money in the Bank match win in 2025.

Naomi said she really didn’t want to talk about it, but then did, saying that “A lot that happened that day at work that led us to leave…like literally walk out.”

Footage of Banks, now Mercedes Mone in WWE, was shown on camera but was barely referred to by name with creative team member Ed Koskey calling Banks “her partner.” In discussing the situation, Koskey also said there was a “different head of creative and different head of talent relations” without mentioning the names Vince McMahon or John Laurinaitis.

Current head of creative Paul Levesque said that he wasn’t involved with main roster talent then and that “They had enough and they left.”

Then the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, the two left an episode of WWE Raw before the show after a creative disagreement. Both were eventually released with Naomi heading to TNA in a move that revived her career and eventually brought her back. Banks became Mone and eventually signed with AEW where she currently wrestles.

“I needed to stand up for myself not as Naomi but as Trinity,” Naomi said, adding that for the first time in her life and career, she was unemployed and unsure what to do next.

“It was a difficult and scary time for me,” she said.

Levesque later added that similar to the R-Truth situation that was also covered in the second episode, they never wanted Naomi gone from WWE and always felt like it was her home which was a “big driving force to get her to come back.”

Mercedes Mone reflects on NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 10-year anniversary

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone says her match with Bayley at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn in 2015 forever changed the landscape of women’s wrestling.

Mone reflected on the 10-year anniversary of the match in the latest edition of Mone Mag, writing:

This anniversary isn’t just a celebration of a match; it’s a celebration of a pivotal moment that forever changed the landscape of women’s wrestling.

“Happy 10th anniversary to the match that altered the course of my life and the trajectory of women’s wrestling! I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to my wrestling soulmate, Bayley. Thank you for being my partner in this journey—both in and out of the ring. The bond we share is unlike any other, and I can’t imagine navigating this incredible business without you. You have challenged me, inspired me, and, most importantly, stood by me. Together, we changed the game.”

Mone continued:

Bayley and I took risks that night—pushing boundaries that had never been crossed by women in North America before. We didn’t even share half of our ideas with our trainers because we were too scared that they’d tell us no. But we believed in what we were doing and knew that we had a chance to make history.

At the time of NXT TakeOver Brooklyn, Mone had been on the WWE main roster for a month, having debuted as a member of Team Bad in July 2015. She returned to NXT that October and again wrestled Bayley, this time in the challenger role for the NXT Women’s Championship. Bayley defeated Mone at NXT TakeOver Respect three falls to two in a 30-minute Ironwoman Match.

Bayley was two years into her run as The Hugger gimmick when she faced Mone at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. She first adopted the character in 2013 and kept it until turning heel in October 2019. Last night on WWE Raw, Bayley slipped back into the gimmick briefly during an in-ring segment with Lyra Valkyria. Our own Bryan Alvarez noted in his report on the show that Bayley’s inflatable tube men are set to return.

Mercedes Mone: I know I’ll be back in WWE one day

Though she’s about to debut for AEW, Mercedes Mone believes she’ll be back in WWE one day.

“I know I’m going to be back there [WWE] one day, ok,” the former Sasha Banks said while being interviewed on the Kick Rocks wrestling podcast. “So it’s not over. Like I said, I have a lot of unfinished business in wrestling in a lot of places.”

Mone’s line about knowing she’ll be back in WWE one day was edited out of the full version of the podcast, but it was included in a clip uploaded to YouTube:

This was part of the answer Mone gave explaining why she walked out of WWE. Mone left WWE after walking out of an episode of Raw in May 2022. Mone said something inside of her told her that she needed to stand up for herself. Though walking out was the hardest decision Mone has ever made, it’s also the decision that she’s most proud of.

Mone said she now gets to be everything she has ever dreamed of being. She’s thankful for the career WWE gave her, the fans they gave her, and the life that they gave her.

Mone is expected to debut for AEW on Dynamite next Wednesday (March 13). The show, which is taking place in Boston, is named “Big Business” and is being built around Mone’s arrival.

After walking out of WWE, Mone returned to pro wrestling for NJPW and Stardom last year. Her next match will be the first time she’s wrestled since May 2023. She’s been out of action since then due to an ankle injury.

Mone hyped on Kick Rocks that she’s been making some “Big Business” moves. Mone said she thinks she’s finally found a new home in pro wrestling.

Mercedes Mone: I’ve been making some ‘Big Business moves’

Mercedes Mone opened up about a variety of topics during a recent podcast appearance.

On Thursday, The Kick Rocks podcast published an interview with the 32-year-old where she discussed topics such as Bayley winning the Royal Rumble, her decision to walk out of WWE, and what could be next for her wrestling career.

On Bayley winning the Royal Rumble:

She’s going to love this that I’m putting her over. Usually, I’m the one that’s being put over because I beat her all the time but I am nothing but so proud and so happy for her.

I get to see her from afar do all this and see all her hard work, and hear her talk about her dreams and her hopes and what she wants to do in that business, and to see it come through and to see so much magic that that woman can make…

She does so much for that division and I’m just beyond proud to know, to me, that she is going to main event WrestleMania because that’s how it should be. I am just beyond the moon for her because she had a crazy past three years coming from the pandemic, getting injured, seeing her go through that, make her return, and make her return with IYO Sky and Dakota Kai.

She is just so selfless and cares so much that I just love cheering her on and can’t wait to see her just go.

She also spoke about the current state of women’s wrestling:

(This is) the most that women have ever been a part of this business. To see how many women are at pro wrestling schools, to see how many women that are at different promotions from independent to Stardom to TNA to AEW to WWE, like I have no words for it. I started in WWE with eight women in developmental. I don’t even know how many there are now. There’s probably 30 and then you have the main roster and then you have AEW, who has an insane roster, and then you go to Stardom…

It’s beyond my biggest dreams. It’s everything I dreamt for because I watched wrestling since I was a kid and I was like, ‘How can I do this like the men?’ and I discovered Japanese pro-wrestling and I was like, ‘Oh wow, they do do it like the men and harder,’ so I always saw that but wanted that in the United States and I always say that I always wanted to change the definition of what it is to be a Diva.

When asked if “Diva” is a dirty word to her, Mone responded:

Now, no because it means so much but back then I could never watch it with my mom, or my grandma, or my grandma would make fun of me. I’d just be like, ‘Yeah Grandma, that’s what I want to do.’

Those were the times. We weren’t treated equally, we weren’t treated the same, we weren’t given the same respect.

Mone then spoke about being told she had a “career-ending injury.”

It’s been crazy, almost 10 months now from a freak accident…or did Willow push me? Or did someone pay off that ref and make the top rope slippery? I don’t know but I’ve spent the last 10 months thinking about how much unfinished business I have in wrestling.

I was so focused and so ready for my plans to succeed in 2023 and for that to happen to me, it taught me so much about life and it just taught me that I needed to slow down even more and to heal because prior to that a lot happened to me, a lot of hurt happened and a lot of healing needed to happen and I was still just going so fast. Because I love wrestling so much and I couldn’t be away from it but I wasn’t healed inside. I think it was just a message like ‘you’ve got to slow down and figure out what’s next for you and what are your plans, your plans are good but I think you need to reevaluate them a little bit more.’

Mone continued to say that she’ll be releasing music this year and has some more acting roles upcoming. She also teased that she’s “finally found her wrestling home” as well.

Mone said:

I’ve been making some really big moves. Big business moves and big money moves.

Just this whole time of healing, I got to work on so many other things that I have such a passion for. I think fans are going to be really excited that finally I’m going to be releasing some music this year. I’m still acting and got some amazing, amazing things in the works and I got to audition for incredible roles in movies. We’ve got to keep manifesting great things about that.

And I finally think I found a home in a wrestling place. So, it’s really, really exciting and I’m excited about these big money moves.

Later, she would add:

I think I might have finally made my decision and I think it’ll be really soon.

I’ve been posting my training videos, I’ve been training really, really hard with Tyler Breeze at Flatbacks and Shawn Spears, shout out to Hybrid school with Funaki in San Antonio, and the New Japan Dojo in LA. I’ve been working so hard to get back to this place that I love because little do people know, I was told that this is a career ending injury. I like screamed at my doctor and surgeon, I said ‘no, it’s not.’

I’m going to come back really soon and I’m going to have just the greatest time, the greatest matches, the greatest career that I’ve had yet because I see it, I feel it, and I know it. Soon.

Mercedes Mone on walking out of WWE: I needed to stand up for myself

For the first time, Mercedes Mone has opened up about her decision to walk out of WWE.

The former Sasha Banks recently sat down for an interview with Evan Mack on the Kick Rocks wrestling podcast. When asked why she isn’t in WWE right now, Mone explained her decision to walk out of the company. Mone called it the hardest decision she’s ever made, but it’s also the decision she’s most proud of. Something inside of Mone told her that she needed to do this and stand up for herself.

Mone said the decision changed her life for the better. She now gets to be everything she’s ever dreamed of being.

“I can’t say nothing but amazing things to WWE,” Mone said. “I’m so thankful for the career that they gave me, the fans that they gave me, the life that they gave me, the dreams that they gave me.”

Mone added that she has a lot of unfinished business in a lot of places in wrestling:

That’s a big question. That’s a big, big question. I really believe in, not only the universe, but I believe in myself and I believe in such a higher power of light that comes over me. Something inside of me told me I needed to go do this and stand up for myself. It was a very hard decision, because wrestling in WWE has been my whole life. If people don’t know, it’s been my whole life. And it’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my whole life. But it’s the most proudest. It’s crazy because I would not be sitting here, living the best version of my life and getting to be everything I’ve ever dreamt of. I get to be everything I ever dreamt of and more. You have no idea.

And it makes me so excited because that moment changed my whole life for the better. I’m so thankful for that moment. I’m so proud of myself. I’m so proud of Trinity [Naomi]. I’m so proud — of just how strong we were. Because, like you said, everybody wanted to talk about it. Everybody wanted to act like they were in the room. Everybody acted like they were in the room, or worked there, or were backstage, or knew what happened, or knew what was said. But all I know is that I handled it like a CEO, like the Boss that I am, with my head held up high. And I can’t say nothing but amazing things to WWE. I’m so thankful for the career that they gave me, the fans that they gave me, the life that they gave me, the dreams that they gave me. So many dreams. I got to chase and live them all. I get to do, you know, so much more. Like I said, I have a lot of unfinished business in wrestling in a lot of places.

Mone (real name Mercedes Varnado) and Naomi (Trinity Fatu) walked out of WWE in May 2022 after reportedly taking issue with their planned creative direction. At the time, they were the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. They were stripped of the titles after walking out.

Naomi, who became a champion for TNA Wrestling after walking out of WWE, made her WWE return at the Royal Rumble this January. Naomi is now a member of the SmackDown roster.

Mone returned to pro wrestling for NJPW and Stardom last year but has been out of action since May 2023 due to an ankle injury. Mone is expected to make her AEW debut on the Big Business episode of Dynamite in Boston next Wednesday (March 13).

Bianca Belair would love to pick things back up with Mercedes Mone one day

Though Mercedes Mone is on her way to AEW, Bianca Belair hopes that they can pick up their story again one day.

Belair and Mone (the former Sasha Banks) faced off at WrestleMania 37 in 2021, where they became the first Black women to ever headline WrestleMania. The two also worked together as a tag team in WWE.

In an interview with Gorilla Position, Belair was asked if she wants Mone back in WWE and if it’s a conversation they’ve had together. Belair said they haven’t had that conversation. She wants Mone to do what’s best for her, but Belair thinks there was so much more magic that could have been made between them.

Belair said:

I haven’t had this conversation with her. I don’t know what she wants or what she wants to do. I just want what’s best for her and what she wants to do with her. I’m no one to tell someone what they should do.

What I will say is that we created some magic in the ring at WrestleMania 37. And I think that there was so much more magic to be made. Not even just with us inside the ring, but with me being champion at the time and the tag team champions, I just saw it as so much representation that was on the verge of happening and so much greatness that was going to happen. So the fact that it was all halted at that point, I would love for it to pick back up one day and take off. So I think — we didn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg of what could be done.

After walking out of WWE in 2022, Mone returned to pro wrestling for NJPW and Stardom last year. Mone has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in May 2023.

Mone is expected to make her AEW debut at the Big Business edition of Dynamite in Boston next Wednesday (March 13).

Belair recently competed in the women’s Elimination Chamber match at WWE’s Elimination Chamber event in Australia. Becky Lynch won the match, earning a Women’s World Championship shot against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 40.

Bayley will ‘always be destined for one more match’ with Mercedes Mone

Bayley doesn’t believe that she’s had her final match against Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks.

Mone’s future has been a hot subject lately with rumors that she could be on her way to AEW. Dave Meltzer wrote earlier this month that AEW expects Mone to start with them soon. But Meltzer added that, until it happens or a contract is signed, he wouldn’t consider anything 100 percent.

It was reported in December that Mone and WWE were no longer in negotiations regarding Mone returning to the promotion.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated that was published on Thursday, Bayley was asked about Mone. Bayley said she believes they’ll always be destined for one more match together.

We’ll always be destined for one more match. Our next match will never be our last. We’re ‘The Brooklyn Girls.’ We’re going to live on forever because of that match, and it’s something we can carry on forever.

I don’t have chemistry in the ring with anyone else like I do with her. No one teaches me like her. She’s my [Michael] Jordan.

Bayley and Mone attended last weekend’s TNA Wrestling Hard to Kill pay-per-view together. At the show, Trinity lost the Knockouts Championship to Jordynne Grace. Trinity (the former Naomi) is expected to be on her way back to WWE.

“Women supporting women is my favorite,” Grace posted on Monday. “I may have won the title, but don’t think @TheTrinity_Fatu can ever really lose with friends like these in her corner.”

Bayley will be an entrant in the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble match. Bayley has said that, if she wins the Rumble, she’ll challenge Rhea Ripley instead of her Damage CTRL stablemate IYO SKY. WWE has slowly been building a split between Bayley and Damage CTRL for months now.

Mercedes Mone expected to debut on AEW TV soon

Mercedes Mone could debut on AEW television shortly.

Our own Dave Meltzer wrote in Sunday’s Daily Update that AEW sources expect Mone to start on TV with the company soon. However, he noted that until she’s signed a contract, nothing is certain.

Meltzer wrote:

On last night’s show there were no teases for Mercedes Mone or for her appearing Wednesday in Jacksonville. What I know is that AEW does expect her to start on TV soon, but as noted, until it happens and the contract itself is signed, I wouldn’t consider anything 100 percent.

One would think there would be some sort of a tease of a surprise if she was to appear, since that’s been the case with most major signings. But Sting’s original debut in Jacksonville came out of nowhere.

Meltzer went into deeper detail regarding the latest on Mone’s free agency and what led to talks with WWE falling apart in the January 8, 2024 edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Meltzer wrote:

WWE and AEW have clearly both been talking with her. Obviously this has gone on with AEW for months if not a year and she’s never signed yet. There was a lot of talk within wrestling of her on this week’s Dynamite which she wasn’t on.

He continued:

We do know that the expectation is she will be in AEW fairly soon, but until a contract signing is confirmed, anything can happen.

Two Tag Team title matches set for next week’s WWE Raw

The Undisputed Tag Team and Women’s Tag Team titles will be defended on next week’s WWE Raw episode.

It was revealed during Monday’s Raw that both sets of Tag Team Championships will be on the line next week, as The Judgment Day defend the Undisputed WWE Tag titles against The Creed Brothers, while Chelsea Green & Piper Niven will defend the WWE Women’s Tag titles against Katana Chance & Kayden Carter.

The Creed Brothers won a Tag Team Turmoil match on the November 27 Raw to earn the number one contendership to Damian Priest & Finn Balor’s Undisputed Tag titles, while Chance & Carter defeated former top contenders Natalya & Tegan Nox on the December 4 Raw to stake their claim as number one contenders to the Women’s Tag Team titles.

A future Intercontinental Championship match was also agreed to during Monday’s Raw, as Gunther accepted a challenge from The Miz with the stipulation that Miz will never again challenge Gunther for the title should he lose. No date has been announced for that title bout.

The announced lineup for the Monday, December 18 Raw:

  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest & Finn Balor defend against Julius Creed & Brutus Creed
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Piper Niven defend against Katana Chance & Kayden Carter

Mercedes Mone teases return, posts video of in-ring training

Mercedes Mone posted a new video to her official YouTube channel on Wednesday.

The 90-second video features doing some in-ring training, running the ropes, and taking part in various drills. The description of the video on YouTube reads, “Mercedes Moné is back in the ring.”

Mone hasn’t wrestled since suffering an ankle injury at NJPW Strong Resurgence on May 21. Willow Nightingale ended up winning the match and the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship that night when an audible was called after Mone suffered the injury.

Earlier this month, Rocky Romero spoke to WrestlePurists about Mone and when she might be able to return.

I honestly don’t have any update right now. I hope that I’ll be talking to her agent and her maybe soon-ish, but I honestly don’t have any update yet about anything. The last thing I had heard was that she was recovering well and basically they were going to let me know, reach out when she was getting close to a comeback. So, yeah. So I’m not really sure where we’re at.

Romero continued to say there is still communication between NJPW and Mone but he’s not sure what she will do when cleared to return.

There’s definitely still communication. And I mean obviously though, I don’t know what she’s going to want to do when she comes back for sure. Especially coming back from a serious injury, you know? And like that maybe messed up her timeframe of what she wanted to do and how she wanted to do it. So I really couldn’t say or speak for her, you know? I don’t think it would be fair.

Women’s title match set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

A match for the WWE Women’s Championship is set for next week.

IYO SKY will defend the title against Charlotte Flair following events that went down on Friday’s show. After defeating Zelina Vega, Bayley and the rest of Damage CTRL continued to target Vega until Flair made the save.

Later, Flair was seen in new SmackDown General Manager Aldis’ office. Also in the office was Jade Cargill, and the two exchanged words with one another.

Flair last competed for the title at WWE Fastlane, where she lost to SKY in a three-way match thanks to interference from Bayley.

Also set for next week is a match between Montez Ford and the LWO’s Santos Escobar. Carlito was being interviewed after making his return at Fastlane last Saturday when he was attacked by Lashley and the Street Profits. The LWO attempted to make the save, but Carlito had already been laid out.

Here is what is currently set for next week’s SmackDown:

  • WWE Women’s Championship: IYO SKY defends against Charlotte Flair
  • Santos Escobar vs. Montez Ford
