WWE NXT live results: The Rascalz reunite

With the working relationship that now exists between WWE and TNA Wrestling, The Rascalz are set to reunite as a trio on NXT.

Wes Lee, Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz will team up as they take on Gallus in tonight’s opening match. The match was made after Miguel & Wentz showed up on NXT last week, cheering up a dejected Lee following his loss to Oba Femi at Heatwave. Gallus confronted The Rascalz later in the night and said they don’t want them — or anyone else from TNA — in NXT.

Femi has a North American Championship defense scheduled for tonight. Duke Hudson is challenging him for the title.

We’ll hear from NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez after retaining against Lola Vice at Heatwave.

Plus, Je’Von Evans is out for payback against Brooks Jensen, The O.C. take on OTM in a six-person tag match, and Tatum Paxley faces off with Izzi Dame.

Join us for live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

A trios match is opening the show, and The Rascalz are back together.

The Rascalz (Wes Lee, Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) defeated Gallus (Mark Coffey, Joe Coffey & Wolfgang in a six man tag team match

What an opener! Great start to the show. Joe Hendry makes a surprise appearance for guest commentary. Rascalz looked like superstars.

Hot start in the six-man tag, and the pace only picked up from there. The live studio audience was loud as they chanted and cheered for The Rascalz. The live crowd especially loved Wes Lee when he tagged in. Everybody got involved in a parade of spots, and everybody is down.

Vic Joseph on commentary name drops Joe Hendry, alluding that he was watching. Speak his name and he appears. Out comes Joe Hendry as he walks to ring with his theme music blaring over the house speakers. The show cuts to a commercial break as Hendry is walking around ringside. When the show returns from the break, Hendry is at the announce desk for guest commentary. Booker T is less than thrilled with Hendry’s arrival. Book in character may not believe in Joe Hendry.

Heat on Lee until he creates separation. Hot tag and in comes Wentz to shine. He got over well hear, and Booker noted his talent on commentary. Miguel with a twisting and modified fisherman’s buster-type move. It was wicked, and it netted a near fall.

Rascalz all three lock arms for a what I can only describe as a fooseball player 360. Great spot. They then explode into a flurry of offense, and the Rascalz clear the ring. Gallus powders, but Rascalz go after them with dives. Studio audience chants “N-X-T-N-A”.

For the finish, Wentz and Miguel hold Mark Coffey in a double Body Breaker while Lee leapt off the top rope with a double foot stomp on Coffey. Lee then covers Coffey for a pinfall. Rascalz win in their reunion match. Great opener.

After the match, a video package narrated by Hendry showed how he and Trick Williams became a tag team, and how well they wrestled in a tag bout last week on NXT.

Lots of talking segment in a row after the opening bout.

Kelly Kincaid was about to interview Chase U when she says Roxanne Perez is next. Thea Hail hears that and says she has to go as she leaves in a hurry. Andre Chase and Riley Osborne cut promos saying Duke Hudson will win tonight against Oba Femi in a North American title match.

When the show returns from a commercial break, NXT Champion Ethan Page is in the office of NXT General Manager Ava. Page has some complaints as champion. Oro Mensah barges in and Page cuts a promo on him. Mensah challenges to a match. Page balks and says he will not reward bad behavior. Page keeps running his mouth, and Ava tells him to defend his title tonight. Page blurts out the name of Dante Chen, and a NXT title match is booked for later.

Vic Joseph and Booker announce a two-week special using the Great American Bash moniker. The Bash specials air on Syfy for the dates of July 30 and and August 6. Though not noted in the announcement, WWE programming is preempted those weeks on USA Network for coverage of the Olympics.

NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez is in the ring for a monologue. She is still upset over not being treated properly for the champion she is, and she defeated the biggest baddest last week.Yet, Perez did not get her flowers. Instead, Lola Vice gets a standing ovation despite losing the match. Perez is mad the standing ovation was not for herself. Perez names drops Charlotte Flair as a past NXT champion, but Perez says she will herself shatter of of the records.

Perez turns her tirade to the internet and the buzz over Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer. Perez then calls into question Thea Hail being her next challenger. Out comes Hail to confront Perez.

Hail cuts a pretty good promo on Perez. Give Hail the pen, and she will write her name in the history books as the youngest NXT Women’s Champion. Perez insists she is not overlooking Hail, but that Hail is not ready. Hail is not a grown women, Perez says she is a little girl. That snide remark ignites a brawl. Going down to the mat, the grapple for position and submissions. Hail gets her arm bar locked in, and Ridge Holland has to pry her off Perez.

NXT North American Women’s Champion Keloni Jordan in a backstage interview also name drops Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer. Wendy Choo then comes in to creep out Jordan.

Je’Von Evans defeated Brooks Jensen (with Josh Briggs)

Evans pinned Jensen to win the match. The trend of good matches continues on this show, but this match was much different than the opener. Different in a good way. This match had more time to breath, and the bouts goes through a commercial break. Shawn Spears walks down to ringside just before the finish. It was a minor distraction, but it inadvertently cost Jensen the match.

Jensen got to look strong despite losing, and got heat on Evans. Jensen targeted the ribs, including spots where he sandwiched Evans on the announce desk In one spot, Jensen leaps off the apron to sandwich Evans on the desk.

Spears appears at ringside, and Briggs goes to confront him. Jensen gets between them, and Jensen gets Briggs to back away from Spears. However, that all distracted Jensen from Evans, who does a dive over the ropes on Jensen. Double springboard by Evans into a flying Diamond Cutter. Evans then covers Jensen for a three count.

Jensen jumps Evans after the match, and Jensen is stomping on Evans when Briggs jumps in to make a save. Briggs pulls Jensen off Evans, and Briggs shoves Jensen. Briggs screams at Jensen, since Briggs has vouched for him. Briggs screams at Jensen that Briggs job is on the line.

In a backstage skit, The Family is playing poker when Charlie Dempsey comes to Tony D’Angelo for advice. Dempsey implies to wants to put a hit on a woman, but “The Don” says Dempsey has to handle that himself.

Dante Chen is interviewed and he cuts a promo ahead of his title challenge that is up next.

NXT Champion Ethan Page defeated Dante Chen to retain the title

Another good match on this show, as that trend continues. Nothing off the charts, but solid. Chen got some offense as the underdog, but he eventually dropped the fall to the champ. Chen got a final flurry in the closing moments. Near fall for Chen, but he is soon cut off by Page. Ego’s Edge (Razor’s Edge) by Page, and Page covers Chen for a pinfall.

After the match is over, Oro Mensah runs in for to attack Page. Despite the sneak attack, Page is able to easily fight out Mensah. Page leaves him laying and Page literally wipes his feet of Mensah, or so he thought. Page is leaving when Mensah comes back to brawl with Page. They fight around ringside and back into the ring. Memsah runs wild on Page, and Mensah gets a visible pinfall on Page. The studio audience counts to three, and this look to set a title match with Mensah challenging Page for the NXT title.

Duke Huson is the focus of a video package that hypes him up ahead of Hudson challenging tonight for the North American title.

Gallus is complaining to each other about their match earlier tonight when Joe Coffey speaks the name of Joe Hendry. So, Joe Hendry appears. Hendry says he is sticking around in NXT. This upset Coffey and company in what I assume was supposed to be a humorous segment. As a middle-aged man, I admittedly do not totally understand the comedy here, but Hendry has a lot of charisma.

Tatum Paxley defeated Izzi Dame

Paxley wins via pinfall with her wicked finisher called “The Psycho Trap.” Wendy Choo does her zombie walk down to ringside during the match. Her and Paxley have some sort of gothic partnership of sorts. After the match, Choo has a headless Barbie doll. Paxley has the head for the doll, and she puts the head on the doll. Choo then leaves as Paxley laughs maniacally.

Lola Vice defeated Jacy Jayne (with Jazmyn Nyz)

Vice wins a pinfall, but more importantly, a trios match is set up for the near future.

Jayne mocks Vice at one point earlier on, and Vice comes back with fire. Jayne cuts off Vice and applies some joint locks. Vice comeback with a series of kicks and a hip attack. A moment later, Vice ducks a clothesline and delivers a spinning back fist. Jayne drops like a stone, and Vice covers her for a pinfall.

Fallon Henley runs in to jump Vice after the match. Jayne and Nyz join in as the stomp on Vice. Running down to make a save is Karmen Petrovic and Sol Ruca. This angle would seem to set up a six-woman tag team match.

NXT Champion Ethan Page is stopped as he is leaving the interview for a TMZ-style interview. Page cuts a promo on Mensah before leaving through an exit.

The O.C. (Michin, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) defeated OTM (Jaida Parker, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) in a six-person mixed tag team match

The six-person bout starts with a melee. Big brawl at the beginning, and when the smoke clears there is Michin and Parker in the ring. They run through some spots and such. Good stuff, and then comes the hoss fight portion of the match.

Gallows is running wild on Price, until Price responds with hiss moves of his own. In comes Nima, who is wearing a nose guard. Heat on Gallows, until a hot tag to Michin. She runs wild on Parker for several near falls.

Anderson squares off with Nima. Quick tags by The Good Brothers. Parker comes in to hip check Anderson, which brings in Michin to strike at Parker. Michin also executes her finisher on Nima. Michin then dives through the ropes on Parker. Back in the ring, Good Brothers deliver a Magic Killer, and Anderson scores the deciding pinfall.

In a skit, Wren Sinclair wants to be a part of No Quarter Catch Crew. She apparently has dirt on Dempsey, which the storyline murder of Damon Kemp. Though the material here was wacky, Sinclair saves the skit as she tries to shoot on Myles Borne. She was funny.

Eddy Thorpe and Lexis King are shown in a pre-taped angle. King picks a fight with Thorpe while Thorpe is DJ’ing a party. This leads to match next Tuesday on NXT.

Also announced for next Tuesday for a singles match with Oro Mensah against Ashante Adonis. This match was set up with a skit where Adonis was hitting on Jakara Jackson, and Mensah took exception to that.

NXT North American Champion Oba Femi defeated Duke Hudson (with Andre Chase, Thea Hail, Riley Osborne & Ridge Holland) to retain the title

Femi pinned Hudson clean to win the match and retain the championship. Femi shows his power and strength early on, and Hudson has to regroup. Hudson takes off his Chase U tank, and it gives him power like Jerry Lawler pulling down the strap.

Hudson runs in with a hurricanrana. Femi is reeling as he is on heels as the show cuts to its final commercial break. Femi turns the tide back in his favor during the break, and Femi has Hudson grounded when the show returns.

Femi strikes with two back-to-back backbreakers, but Hudson somehow kicks out. Hudson goes on to fight back when he cuts off Femi with a big boot. Comeback by Hudson, and he delivers a series of punches along with the flip, flop and fly. Meanwhile, his pals in Chase U are going crazy at ringside.

After a plancha, Hudson follows up with by slingshotting into German suplex. They fight on the turnbuckles teasing a superplex. Hudson is shoved off, but he responds by catching Femi with a flying head scissors. A final near fall for Hudson, as he counters Femi into a crucifix. Femi kicks out and gives Hudson a chokeslam. Hudson kicks out as they trade near falls.

They fight on the ropes, and Hudson does a sunset slip into an avalanche power bomb on Femi. A final near fall for Hudson, but Femi gets a shoulder up. The fight spills outside the ring, where Femi gives Hudson a side slam on the announce desk. Femi then does a pop-up powerbomb, and he covers Hudson for a pinfall. Femi retain his title. He poses with the belt.

Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs are arguing as they are leaving the building. Jensen says they need to settle things with a singles match next week. Briggs caution Jensen that beat him up pretty bad last time, and Briggs does want to do that again. Jensen remarks they should have a no disqualification match. Jensen then gets into the passenger seat of a SUV with an unknown driver at the wheel. They sped off as the show goes off the air.

The Rascalz reunite with Wes Lee on WWE NXT

The Rascalz have reunited.

As Wes Lee was about to consider walking away from NXT, TNA stars Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz appeared. Wentz said they didn’t want to Lee go, while Lee said he had been watching them and were proud of what they’ve become. Wentz said Lee was the greatest North American Champion, while Miguel said Wentz and Lee were the best tag team ever to step foot in NXT. The trio eventually agreed to reunite once again and hugged.

Later backstage, Gallus confronted The Rascalz, telling them that they didn’t want any of the TNA roster in NXT. A six-man tag match was signed for next week’s show.

Lee, Wentz, and Miguel were a trio in TNA until Lee and Wentz signed with WWE in 2020, where they wrestled as MSK and won the NXT Tag Team titles twice. Wentz, who wrestled as Nash Carter in WWE, was released in 2022 during their second reign as champions after domestic abuse allegations emerged, as well as photos relating to Adolf Hitler and Nazi imagery. Wentz went on to reunite with Miguel in TNA.

Continuing in NXT as a singles wrestler, Lee went on to win the North American title. Last November, he announced he would be taking time off due to a back injury that required surgery. He returned in June and challenged Oba Femi for the North American title at Heatwave with the stipulation that if he lost, he could never challenge for the title again as long as Femi was champion.

Six-man tag match added to TNA Rebellion pre-show

A new pre-show match has been made official for TNA Rebellion 2024.

On Countdown to Rebellion next Saturday, ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) will team up with Leon Slater against The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) & Myron Reed. The pre-show broadcast streams live for free starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time. It will air on TNA+ and TNA’s digital platforms.

Reed is back teaming with The Rascalz after making his Impact debut last October. He’s a former MLW Middleweight Champion and is a member of The Rascalz on the indies.

Last October, it was announced that Slater had signed a long-term TNA contract. He’s been a standout on the United Kingdom indie scene.

ABC lost the TNA Tag Team titles to Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers at Sacrifice last month.

The Rebellion pre-show will also feature a Knockouts Tag Team title match with Dani Luna & Jody Threat defending against Havok & Rosemary.

The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas is hosting Rebellion. Here’s everything that’s been announced for the event:

TNA Rebellion 2024 (Saturday, April 20) —

The Rascalz re-sign with TNA Wrestling

The Rascalz have re-signed with TNA Wrestling.

Former Impact World Tag Team Champions Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz have re-signed with TNA, the company announced during Thursday’s Impact Wrestling episode.

Miguel, Wentz, and Myron Reed make up the current iteration of The Rascalz, a team that began as Dezmond Xavier & Wentz on the independent scene. Miguel & Reed would join the group on the indies and again later in Impact.

Wentz & Xavier would later join WWE NXT as MSK under the names Nash Carter & Wes Lee. Lee remains under contract to WWE.

Miguel & Wentz join Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers in prominent TNA re-signings in recent weeks, and the company has also announced the signings of Trent Seven, KUSHIDA, & Dani Luna this month as the company gears up for its return to the TNA name in 2024. Jade Chung has also been announced as the promotion’s new ring announcer.

TNA president Scott D’Amore has also hyped a debut of “one of the biggest signings in company history” for the Hard to Kill pay-per-view set for January 13.

Jon Moxley tag match announced for Wrestling Revolver Unreal

AEW star Jon Moxley will be competing in tag team action at Wrestling Revolver’s Unreal event later this month.

Wrestling Revolver has announced a first-time-ever tag team bout for the Thursday, November 16 event. Moxley & Sami Callihan will team up against The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz). The show is taking place in Los Angeles and will stream live via Fite+.

Moxley makes frequent appearance for Wrestling Revolver, which is an indie promotion run by Callihan.

The Unreal event will feature the Wrestling Revolver debut of UFC Hall of Famer/former WWE star Ronda Rousey. Callihan told Busted Open Radio that booking Rousey is something that he “fell into” because of his relationships with other people and them putting him over to Rousey. Callihan said Rousey wanted to do the show for charity. All ticket sale profits from Unreal are being donated to Lahaina wildfire relief.

Rousey & Marina Shafir are facing Athena & Billie Starkz at Unreal. The show is also set to include the in-ring debut of actor Paul Walter Hauser, “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Bryan Keith, Rey Horus vs. Gringo Loco, Jacob Fatu vs. Masha Slamovich, and more.

Chris Bey & Ace Austin win Impact Tag Team titles at Bound for Glory

Chris Bey & Ace Austin gained a measure of revenge against the team that cost them the Impact Tag Team titles at Saturday’s Bound for Glory by defeating The Rascalz for the belts.

The end of the match came when The Rascalz’s Zachary Wentz accidentally sprayed partner Trey Miguel with spray paint and then got hit with the Art of Finesse/Fold combo to give Bey & Austin their second title run.

The Rascalz initially screwed then-champions Bey & Austin over by interfering in a multi-team title match at July’s Slammiversary, leading to Subculture winning the titles. Miguel & Wentz then interfered again in Bey & Austin’s rematch with Subculture, causing them to lose.

Bey & Austin earned a Feast or Fired briefcase last month which contained a future Tag Team title shot they chose to cash in for Bound for Glory.

The loss ends the brief reign for The Rascalz who defeated Subculture for the titles at August’s Emergence, picking up three title defenses along the way.

It was the only title change on a night that featured nearly every title on the line. Both Impact World Champion Alex Shelley and Knockouts Champion Trinity retained as did X-Division Champion Chris Sabin.

Knockouts Tag Team champions Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly retained their titles on a dark match over Deonna Purrazzo & Tasha Steelz that was originally slated for broadcast.

Myron Reed to make Impact debut at Bound for Glory fallout tapings

A former MLW champion is set to make their Impact Wrestling debut later this month.

Impact Wrestling has announced that Myron Reed will debut for the promotion at their Bound for Glory fallout tapings on Sunday, October 22. It will be The Rascalz (Trey Miguel, Zachary Wentz & Reed) vs. Black Taurus, Laredo Kid & Juventud Guerrera.

The tapings are being held in Cicero, Illinois and will include a Lucha Libre Celebration. Taurus, Laredo Kid & Guerrera teaming together is part of that celebration.

Reed became a free agent this January. He held the MLW Middleweight Championship three times while he was with that promotion.

Miguel and Wentz have both wanted Reed to be part of The Rascalz in Impact Wrestling. He’s a member of the group on the indies.

The October 22 tapings are taking place the day after Bound for Glory. Josh Alexander vs. Will Ospreay has also been made official for the tapings. The Impact World Championship will be on the line in that match if Alexander wins the title from Alex Shelley at Bound for Glory.

Impact Emergence notes: The Rascalz win Tag Team titles, Steve Maclin returns

New Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions were crowned at Sunday’s Emergence in Toronto as The Rascalz became titleholders for the first time with their win over Subculture.

The end came when Zachary Wentz & Trey Miguel isolated Flash Morgan Webster, finishing him off with a double stomp into a burning hammer to pick up the win and their first ever run with the titles.

Wentz and Miguel earned the opportunity against Webster and Mark Andrews by winning the recent four-team Tag Team title eliminator tournament, defeating Rich Swann & Sami Callihan in the finals.

The two have a history with former champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) after both costing them the titles at Slammiversary and then in their subsequent rematch with Subculture, setting up a potential battle in the future.

Webster and Andrews held the gold for over 40 days, defending the titles four times but just once in Impact itself.

*********
Steve Maclin made his return to Impact Sunday after being away for several months due to injury.

Maclin made a surprise appearance to attack Josh Alexander on the ramp during an eight-man tag team match, going after his previously injured left arm. The two had a brawl on the stage before being separated. Alexander then finished the rest of the match, eventually getting pinned by Moose after Impact World Champion Alex Shelley walked out on his team.

Maclin and Alexander were supposed to wrestle for Alexander’s-then Impact World title at April’s Rebellion until he had to withdraw. Maclin defeated KUSHIDA for the vacant title before losing it to Shelley in June. He was then inured during the company’s mini-tour of Australia, putting him on the injured list.

**********

In the night’s other title matches, Knockouts Champion Trinity retained her title with a submission win over Deonna Purrazzo in the main event while Digital Media Champion Kenny King defeated Johnny Swinger to retain, and Knockouts Tag Team Champions MK Ultra (Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly) retained in a four-way that included The Death Dollz, Jody Threat & KiLynn King, and Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans.

SANADA vs. Jake Something, Tag Team title match set for Impact Emergence

For the first time since 2015, SANADA will return to Impact Wrestling at this month’s Emergence and with the IWGP World Championship in tow.

While his presence was announced some time ago, his opponent for the non-title match was confirmed Thursday: Jake Something.

The streaming special is set for Sunday, August 27th in Toronto, Canada.

SANADA is a former X-Division Champion, feuding with Austin Aries and others over the title in 2014 through early-2015. This will be his first meeting with Something who recently returned to Impact at July’s Slammiversary after leaving the company a year ago.

Impact Tag Team Champions Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews) now know who they will be defending the titles against as they will take on The Rascalz.

Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz picked up a victory in the finals of the four-team Tag Team title eliminator tournament Thursday, defeating Sami Callihan & Rich Swann to earn the shot.

The two used spray paint in Callihan’s eyes, leading to them hitting their Hot Fire Flame finisher to get the pin and win. They are in search of their first-ever run with the gold while Subculture is looking for their third title defense.

Here’s the current card:

  • Impact Knockouts Champion Trinity defends against Deonna Purrazzo
  • Impact World Champion Alex Shelley, KUSHIDA, Chris Sabin & Josh Alexander vs. Bully Ray, Moose, Brian Myers & X-Division Champion Lio Rush
  • Impact Tag Team Champions Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews) defend against The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz)
  • IWGP World Champion SANADA vs. Jake Something in a non-title match
  • Knockouts Tag Team Champions Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly defend against Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans, The Death Dollz (Jessicka & Courtney Rush) and The Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde)

Tag Team title eliminator finals set for next Impact Wrestling

The next contenders for the Impact Tag Team titles will be decided on next Thursday’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV.

After defeating former champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) in a semifinal on Thursday’s show, former Impact World Champions Rich Swann and Sami Callihan will face the Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) next Thursday. Bey and Austin were attacked by The Good Hands which helped cost them the match.

The winners of the four team tournament will face current titleholders Subculture (Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster) at this month’s Emergence.

Ahead of her challenge of Knockouts Champion Trinity at Emergence, former champion Deonna Purrazzo will face KiLynn King. King, alongside Taylor Wilde, recently pinned Purrazzo, alongside Trinity, in a tag team match to set this up.

Eric Young will begin his run through The Design as he takes on Kon.

Next week’s show will be the go-home for next Sunday’s Impact x NJPW Multiverse United 2.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • Eric Young vs. Kon (w/ Deaner)
  • Rich Swann & Sami Callihan vs. The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) in a no. 1 contenders’ tournament final
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. KiLynn King (w/ Taylor Wilde)

Impact notes: 1000th episode takes shape, The Rascalz advance in tag team tournament

The first names for Impact’s 1000th episode celebration have been announced.

On Thursday’s Impact on AXS TV, the promotion revealed that Impact Hall of Famer and former Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong will appear as will The Beautiful People’s Velvet Sky & Angelina Love.

Sky & Love are both currently part of the NWA while Kong retired from in-ring competition in 2021.

Wentz & Miguel await the winners of next Thursday’s bout between former champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) vs. Rich Swann & Sami Callihan. The tournament winners will challenge current champions Subculture at this month’s Emergence.

Impact Wrestling live results: Tag Team title eliminator tournament begins

A four-team tournament to crown the number one contenders for the Impact Tag Team titles will begin on tonight’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV.

The first bout will see The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) take on former X-Division Champion “Speedball” Mike Bailey. The winners will face the winners of ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) vs. Rich Swann & Sami Callihan which doesn’t have a date yet.

Ahead of her title rematch against former champion Deonna Purrazzo at this month’s Emergence, Knockouts Champion Trinity will open the show with something to say.

Digital Media Champion Kenny King will defend his title for the first time as he takes on former champion Joe Hendry and Yuya Uemura in a triple threat.

Now free of The Design, Alan Angels will return to singles action as he faces Heath in what has turned into a grudge match.

The BTI pre-show will see Gisele Shaw take on Heather Reckless.

**********

George Iceman told us Trinity would open Impact to address her rematch with Deonna Purrazzo, while saying Impact Emergence would have a special guest for only the live audience.

Gisele Shaw defeated Heather Reckless

Shaw gave Reckless a lot in this match before winning, which goes to show that they must see something in Reckless. Shaw got the win after a good match.

Impact Wrestling Main Show

–Trinity came out to open the show, and talked about how Chicago was important to her because she made her Impact debut there a few months ago. Trinity said that the last time she was there she promised she would come back Knockout’s Champion, and she did.

Deonna Purrazzo’s music hit and she made her way down to the ring. Purrazzo said that if they were recreating Trinity’s debut, it’s only appropriate that she came out. She congratulated Trinity on her win, but said the difference between the two of them was that she wasn’t a quitter. The fans chanted “You tapped out” at Purrazzo, which Trinity noted her quitting by submission.

Purrazzo said no one beat her twice, and Trinity said that would. The Coven came out, and both Trinity and Purrazzo looked on annoyed at them, uniting them against the two heels immediately, which was quite funny. KiLynn King reminded Trinity that she faced Trinity on the night of her debut, but King insisted Trinity got lucky.

Wilde decided to give them a card reading, and threw the tarot cards at Trinity and Purrazzo, breaking it down into a brawl. Santino Marella came out as security was trying to keep them apart, so he made a tag match after Purrazzo demanded a tag match right now, even without her gear.

The Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde) defeated Trinity & Deonna Purrazzo

I am really not sure about the booking of this match. Having your #1 contender lose to someone before the title match means Trinity is defending against someone who lost.

King and Trinity started the match with King using power to overwhelm Trinity. The Coven went for a double clothesline, but Trinity slid underneath both arms and brought Wilde to her corner to hit 6 punches before Purrazzo tagged herself in. Purrazzo ate a flatliner into the middle turnbuckle from Wilde after charging the corner and the Coven started to get the heat on Purrazzo.

Purrazzo made a tag a minute or so later, shoving Wilde back towards her own corner. Trinity came in and hit a bulldog into the middle turnbuckle on Wilde and went to the top rope. King cut Trinity off, and Wilde threw Trinity off the top rope. King tagged in and hit a running knee on Trinity and tagged out to Wilde. Trinity did what was essentially a DDT with her legs on Wilde to tag out to Purrazzo, and she hit a series of moves on King before locking on the Fujiwara armbar.

King spiked Purrazzo with a DDT for a two count after escaping the submission. Purrazzo hit a pump kick but ate a code breaker from Wilde. Trinity hit a flying kick on Wilde, but got caught going for the hip attack on King, who hit a German suplex and everyone was down. King went for the Excalibuster on Purrazzo, but Purrazzo countered into an armbard. Wilde broke it up, and Trinity ran in and tried to kick Wilde, but she ducked and Trinity dropped Purrazzo by accident. KiLynn King then hit an Excalibuster on Purrazzo for the pin.

–The Rascalz were talking about their upcoming match with Mike Bailey and Jonathan Gresham, and Scott D’Amore came up and fined them two weeks pay for interfering in matches last week. He then promised to indefinitely suspend them if they do anything else.

–Alisha Edwards and Eddie Edwards were backstage and Alisha claimed that she ran Tracey Brooks out of Impact again. Jody Threat walked up and said that she did nothing of the sort. Edwards and Threat will be having a match in the near future.

Heath defeated Alan Angels

If you are trying to do something with Angels, this is not the way to get his new character over. The fans love Heath, which is awesome, but with giving Angels a new act, it is critical to get over that he is in a better position. Losing like this (and as often as he has since leaving The Design) tells me he is in a worse position.

Alan Angels left The Design, turning babyface, and then turned heel again within a few weeks with his new rockstar character. Apparently, it wasn’t a babyface turn. I’m also a bit baffled The Design just let him go. Heath was in control for the early parts of the match, but Angels got the heat after dropkicking the stairs into the knee of Heath.

When Heath tried to make a comeback, Angels hit a dropkick to the knee of Heath and hit a DDT for a 2-count. Angels hit an enziguri from the apron and went to the top rope, but ate a powerslam from Heath when he went for a crossbody. Heath went for a wakeup call, but Angels slipped out and hit a backslide. Angels went for a halo strike, but Heath ducked under and hit the wakeup call for the win.

–Eric Young was backstage with Gia Miller to talk about why he wasn’t dead. Only in wrestling. Eric Young promised to show what really happened, and that he wasn’t surprised by what The Design did last week.

Jake Something defeated Davey Vega

This was an awesome squash.

Davey Vega refused a handshake from Something, so Something proceeded to murder him by throwing him around the ring. Vega went for a sunset flip, but Something caught him, lifted him into the air, and hit a huge forearm. Something hit a Vader body press and screamed “What’s my name?” and the fans screamed “Something” before he hit a black hole slam for the win.

–Bully Ray, Moose, & Myers walked up to Lio Rush and said they were happy he made the right decision last week. Rush said again that he wasn’t there to make friends, and Moose said that they didn’t need to be friends, they just needed to be on the same team at Emergence. Ray said that he wanted Rush to experience the trust they had with each other, so there is a six-man tag that was arranged for next week.

–Joe Hendry came to the ring and said that life is short, so you should tell your friends what you think, and that includes letting your friends insert themselves into your contractually entitled rematch for a title they lost. Yuya Uemura came to the ring and turned towards the camera like Joe Hendry, and said, “I am Yuya Uemura! Champion!”

Kenny King (w/ Sheldon Jean) defeated Joe Hendry & Yuya Uemura

This was a really good match. Yuya Uemura is the ace New Japan is looking for, if you ask me. Him and Yota Tsuji really have the charisma part figured out, which is so important. Ren Narita and Shota Umino are great, but they are missing something at the moment.

This was Uemura’s first ever triple threat, though not his first multi-man match as he did several of the Impact six person matches for title shots. Hendry sang his theme at one point and chopped Uemura twice to the beat, which was funny. King said the intro to his theme, and the fans screamed King with him. He’s the heel, so he did not expect this, but then yelled “Chicago knows!” I laughed.

Hendry hit a vertical suplex on King when they came back from break. King and Hendry exchanged uppercuts and strikes in the middle of the ring until King hit a powerslam on Hendry for a 2-count. Uemura hit a crossbody on both men, hitting forearms on both King and Hendry. Uemura hit a back suplex on Hendry for a 2-count.

Uemura went to the top rope again, and Hendry hit a cutter when Uemura came off the top rope. Hendry went for the pinfall but Sheldon Jean pulled him from the ring and King tried to steal the pin, but Uemura kicked out. King shoved Uemura into Hendry and then hit the royal flush for the pinfall.

–Gia Miller was with Mike Bailey and Jonathan Gresham to talk about their match with the Rascalz. Bailey noted that Gresham was unhappy because the rules were not being enforced in Impact, and that they are more than talented enough to overcome any cheating from their opponents. Gresham said that optimism didn’t win matches, but if Bailey had his back, he had Bailey’s. Good promo.

–Josh Alexander, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, and KUSHIDA talked about how they were on the same page for Emergence. Sabin said he would be the first ever 10-time X-Division champion, and KUSHIDA responded with “Maybe.”

–Kevin Kelly joined to talk about the G1 Climax match between Jeff Cobb and Zack Sabre Jr. and Eddie Kingston vs. Tomohiro Ishii, both which are great.

–The Death Dollz were backstage and talked about how they needed a gameplan to get themselves into the knockout’s tag team title match. They went into a huddle to discuss strategy, and said “We want the shot and we’re awesome.” That was funny. They turned around and Crazzy Steve was there, so Rush jumped into Jessicka’s arms. Steve said he needed to talk to Rosemary, but Rush said that they had business to take care of with Santino but would talk soon since they were family. Steve said sadly, “I understand” to end the segment.

The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachery Wentz) defeated Jonathan Gresham & Mike Bailey

Holy cow, this match ruled. What a great match between the two teams. The finish was expected but the match was very good.

Gresham came out with a flag that said, “The Foundation,” his old ROH group. Smoke was pouring out of his octopus mask which looked really cool. The Rascalz sure are a bunch of rascals, as they tried to cheat immediately, but it backfired and Gresham and Bailey were able to hit dropkicks on both.

Bailey did not fall for Wentz bowing to him, and both guys started running the ropes before Bailey hit a kick to the chest of Wentz to drop him. Bailey tagged out to Gresham, who started working over the arm of Wentz. Gresham tied Wentz up like a pretzel, locking in a series of brutal submissions.

The Rascalz hit a low blow on Gresham by kicking the ropes when he was in the ropes and Miguel launched Wentz into a dropkick on Bailey that drove him to the floor. The Rascalz got the heat on the Rascalz, but Gresham escaped by hitting a deadlift vertical suplex on Miguel. Bailey tagged in and hit a running shooting star press on Miguel for a 2-count.

Miguel figure foured the legs of Bailey with his arms from behind and lifted him into a suplex. That looked brutal. Wentz went into a cravate into a DDT again, but Bailey countered out. Wentz and Bailey exchanged strikes including Bailey trying for a thrust kick that Wentz nearly bridged backwards to avoid with it just short of his face. That was awesome.

Gresham and Miguel came in and Bailey sent Gresham into a cutter on Miguel that got a 2-count when Wentz hit a senton bomb off the top rope to break it up, nearly crushing the referee. Gresham hit a powerbomb on Miguel for a 2-count, but Miguel kicked out. Wentz tossed a can of spray paint into the ring as Bailey hit a triangle moonsault on Wentz to the floor, but Miguel sprayed Gresham in the eyes with the spray paint and pinned him for the win.

–A video aired of when Deaner supposedly killed Eric Young, but it showed Young randomly waking up and coughing up blood after the supposed stabbing after Deaner left. Young only had blood on his face, and then dragged himself to a motorcycle before driving away. The video was narrated at this point by Young, asking “What is it to die? What is it to live? Is death final? Why are we so scared of it?” He then said death is final, but he is not dead yet. He said a body can be disposed of, but an idea can’t die. He said he was an idea, and he will live forever. This explained absolutely nothing and was incredibly dumb. What a way to end the show.

Final Thoughts

In all seriousness, I would have rather had James Mitchell conduct some sort of evil ceremony to resurrect Young or something than this. This had no explanation for why Young was still alive, and how he survived a stabbing. Though we never saw a stab wound, it was still implied that he was stabbed based on how Young sold it. This ruined what was otherwise a good episode of Impact for me. Remove this nonsense from the show and it would have been an easy show to recommend.

Impact notes: The Rascalz denied Slammiversary Tag Team title shot

Even though Zachary Wentz picked up a win over Chris Bey on Thursday’s Impact on AXS TV, a promised Tag Team title shot for The Rascalz was denied.

Last week following Wentz’s surprise return to reunite with Trey Miguel and subsequent confrontation of current champions Ace Austin & Chris Bey, it was announced that with a singles win this week, The Rascalz would earn their way into the multi-team Tag Team title match at this Saturday’s Slammiversary.

Wentz did pick up the win, but did so after he hit Bey with a spray paint can tossed to him by Miguel, leading to a cravat driver for the victory.

Later, Director of Authority Santino Marella rescinded the stipulation for Saturday, enraging The Rascalz, claiming he never agreed to that:

In the other development for Saturday’s PPV, Scott D’Amore apparently does still not have a partner for his tag team match against Bully Ray & Deaner following the attack from Ray and the now injured Steve Maclin on PCO from last week. As of now, D’Amore’s partner is TBA.

Here’s the final card for Saturday from Windsor, Ontario, Canada:

  • Impact World Champion Alex Shelley defends against Nick Aldis
  • Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo defends against Trinity
  • X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defends against Lio Rush
  • Impact Tag Team Champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) defend against Sami Callihan & Rich Swann, Brian Myers & Moose, and Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews) in a four-way match
  • Knockouts Tag Team Champions The Coven (Taylor Wilde & KiLynn King) defend against Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly
  • Bully Ray & Deaner vs. Scott D’Amore & TBA with former NHL player Darren McCarty as special enforcer (PCO’s status for the match is in question following an angle on last week’s Impact)
  • Ultimate X match: Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham vs. Angels vs. Kevin Knight vs. KUSHIDA
  • Frankie Kazarian vs. Eddie Edwards
  • Countdown to Slammiversary: Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry defends against Kenny King
  • Countdown to Slammiversary: The Death Dollz (Courtney Rush & Jessicka) & Jody Threat vs. Gisele Shaw, Savannah Evans & Jai Vidal

A match that will be filmed on the Slammiversary fallout show on Sunday now has an airdate.

Made official Thursday, Tommy Dreamer will team with former NHL player Darren McCarty to take on Champagne Singh & Shera on the Thursday, July 27th Impact on AXS TV.

Impact notes: Zachary Wentz returns, next week’s lineup

After several years away, Zachary Wentz of The Rascalz has returned to Impact Wrestling.

During Chris Sabin’s X-Division title match against Trey Miguel Thursday, Sabin was aiming to finish him off with his Cradle Shock finisher when Wentz hit the ring and cause a DQ. The two continued to beat down Sabin until Alex Shelley ran out to make the save.

The two later did a backstage promo that they were back and were here to take what’s theirs.

Wentz had been gone from Impact since November 2020. Known as Nash Carter in WWE NXT, the former NXT Tag Team Champion was released in 2022 after past photos of him dressed as Adolf Hitler emerged. After apologizing, he eventually returned to the indies.

**********

Impact announced two matches for next Thursday’s show with more to come.

In a preview of the Ultimate X match made for next month’s Slammiversary, Jonathan Gresham will take on Angels.

In the other, Frankie Kazarian will do battle with Eddie Edwards. The two wrestled for the first time at Against All Odds with Kazarian picking up the victory. After teaming up last week against Bully Ray & Steve Maclin, with disastrous results, Edwards suggested this week that they were better off as opponents instead.
