Chris Bey reflects on recovery in birthday message

Chris Bey is reflecting on his recovery.

The TNA wrestler, who turned 30 on Friday, posted on social media showcasing how he’s progressed in the last year by showing a video of himself hopping over a box. He noted that it was exactly one year ago that he posted taking his first unassisted steps after suffering a serious neck injury in October of 2024.

“Birthday = Gratitude. God is good. 1 year ago today I was taking my first steps unassisted and posting to the world about my injury. The support has been overwhelming and I can’t describe how I feel other than grateful,” he wrote. “From that moment on I walked independently, no matter the distance, 1 step at a time. Thank you all for walking with me. Time to jump into the next chapter. I love you all. #GSET.”

Although he’s continued to make positive steps in his recovery, Bey told Bryan Alvarez and Tom Lawlor in an interview back in December that he’s in no rush to return to the ring.

“I know when my body’s ready for it, I’ll be able to do it,” he said. “I started coaching again at Future Stars of Wrestling. So, I do public classes again but I’m just coaching. I’m not rolling around or doing anything physical, when the time comes, my body will tell me if I can or if I should. I just wanna wake up and feel good.”

Chris Bey releases statement: ‘It’s okay to be transparent and vulnerable’

Chris Bey released a statement.

It’s been nearly 15 months since Bey suffered a serious injury at a TNA TV taping in Detroit. On Saturday, the 29-year-old shared a statement online noting that he recently had an emotional moment at the gym, where he asked himself where he would be if he hadn’t gotten hurt.

Bey wrote:

“I cried yesterday… let me explain

Last week I went down to the dungeon 2.0. I had an amazing time and witnessed some amazing things. So grateful for the invite.

Then it hit me hard this week.

A bunch of my friends are signing to new promotions or doing cool things in their promotions, friends doing well in the indies. TNA moved over to AMC. I’m still struggling to get out of bed daily.

In the gym yesterday in the middle of my workout I just broke down. Tears flowed through my eyes like they haven’t in a few months. I couldn’t help but think “where would I be if I didn’t get hurt?”.

Eventually, I wiped my eyes and picked up the dumbbells and did my next set. Continued to complete my workout.

It’s okay to be transparent and vulnerable, it’s okay to feel. It’s not okay to give up.

I love you all #GSET”

He later added:

“If I didn’t stress it enough, I’m so proud of everyone. Not a jealous bone in my body. I’ve said it from day 1, before the injury, we can all get it.”

In December, Bey appeared as a guest on an episode of Wrestling Observer Live and said he feels “100 times better” now than he did a year ago. However, he mentioned that as he has gained feeling back, he’s also experiencing pain that had been masked by the numbness before. Bey also mentioned that he hopes to return to the ring one day, saying, “I’m in no rush. I know when my body’s ready for it, I’ll be able to do it.

Bey’s statement is available below:

Chris Bey says he’s ‘100 times’ better now than he was one year ago

Almost a year after his injury, Chris Bey has finally opened up about his current condition.

Over a year ago, during a television taping for TNA, Chris Bey suffered a devastating neck injury while performing his “1,2 Sweet” tag-team finishing move with Ace Austin. Following a brutal landing, Bey was left without movement in his body and required immediate emergency surgery. Now, a year later, while speaking to Bryan Alvarez and Filthy Tom Lawlor of Wrestling Observer Live, Bey has opened up about his current condition.

“In reality, my lower back is still very tight and inflamed. Airplanes destroy my legs right now and are inflaming my legs a lot. I have days where I get out of bed and I have to just tell myself to not do anything all day and I just lay in the house and have to rest.”

I’m out of physical therapy now, but I do a lot of maintenance on my body like shock wave treatments, cupping, dry needling in my neck,” Bey noted. “I do a lot of different things to try to, relieve some of the pain that I’m going through, and at first my body was still numb even after I first got on my feet up until maybe, July.”

He further opened up about his current physical state and claimed, “My legs, you know, my waist down was still pretty numb. I could probably only feel 30% of it, 40% of it.”

Feeling ‘100 times’ better than what he was last year, Bey stated, “I know if someone came in here and was chasing me, I’m not gonna escape, you know, so, so I know the difference between what was normal. But this is 100 times better than where I was a year ago from today, so I, I don’t complain about it.”

Further Bey opened up about his recovery process and claimed, “Whereas now I’m getting a lot of feeling back, which is great, but now it’s turning into the pain that I didn’t feel initially because I just couldn’t feel. So when I’m walking, I feel it in my hips, I feel it in my knees, I feel it in my low back if I’m standing for long periods of time. I feel my low back starting to compress, if I’m sitting or laying down, no matter what, it activates my spasms whenever I stand up and have to move again.

Overcome the small 10-25% chance of walking again, Chris Bey is now back inside the squared circle coaching future wrestling aspirants.

Chris Bey shares in-ring return plans: ‘I’m in no rush’

Injured and currently recovering, Chris Bey has outlined his in-ring return plans.

Last year, Chris Bey suffered a devastating injury when one of his usual tag-team moves went wrong. Despite the practice and familiarity with the move, Bey sustained a severe neck injury, putting a halt to his in-ring duties. Now, over a year later, Bey appeared in an interview with Bryan Alvarez and Filthy Tom Lawlor of Wrestling Observer Live, where he opened up in detail about his return plans.

In no rush for a comeback, the 29-year-old stated, “I’m in no rush. I know when my body’s ready for it, I’ll be able to do it. I started coaching again at Future Stars of Wrestling. So, I do public classes again but I’m just coaching. I’m not rolling around or doing anything physical, when the time comes, my body will tell me if I can or if I should. I just wanna wake up and feel good.”

That’s been my real focus,” he shared. “You know, just I wanna wake up one day and go, ‘OK, I feel good today,’ and not just I’m alive because that’s my mentality now.

After undergoing surgery and now able to walk, Bey was once given a small 10-25% chance of walking, which the determined pro wrestler overcame. Returning to his usual self, the former Impact X-Division Champion still has a long way to go, but he is in no hurry to stop.

Chris Bey opens up on his injury and surgery

In the same interview, Chris Bey also opened up on the immediate response to his injury and the surgery that soon followed.

This happened in Detroit and I was 5-10 minutes away from the hospital. They put me right in the ambulance and drove me right over,” he continued. “I had emergency surgery. I had a double fusion where they fused my C6 to my C7 in the front. I had 19 staples across the front and they went in the back and fused my C6 to my T1.”

Training and recovering, Bey needs to get to his best self before making an in-ring comeback.

Chris Bey says he was in much pain following injury: ‘Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy’

Chris Bey has finally opened up on the aftermath of his injury.

For almost eight years now, Chris Bey has consistently proven himself to be one of the best pro-wrestlers in the industry. However, a tragic accident during a TNA taping last year completely changed his life. Speaking to Bryan Alvarez and Filthy Tom Lawlor of Wrestling Observer Live, Bey opened up about the injury and how he ‘wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy’.

Describing the pain, Bey claimed, “For being honest, from the moment the injury happened to the moment I was put under, I wanted to die because the feeling was insane. It’s weird because you’re paralyzed and you can’t feel.

There is a feeling and something about what I could feel that I can never actually put into words,” he continued. “It was the worst pain I’ve ever been through, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I wanted to either die or be put under under with anesthesia. So, I can just be relieved of the pain and when I woke up the next day.

However, overcoming the battle and currently in his recovery journey, Bey believes he is now just “grateful to be alive”.

During the October 27th, 2024, television taping of TNA, Bey performed his routine ‘1, 2, Sweet’ with Ace Austin, but things ended up differently. Usually, Bey placed his foot in Austin’s hands and fell backward, securing his opponent’s neck in the curve of his raised arm, and sending them face-first into the mat, more generally known as the cutter. However, things went wrong this time and tragedy struck.

Chris Bey had ’10-25%’ chance of walking again

In the same above interview, Bey reflected on his surgery results. The 29-year-old was presented with a ’10-25%’ chance of walking again post surgery. “The surgery was great. It was successful. I woke up the next day. I had some feeling and movement, a little bit in my hands, but everything from the chest down was still numb, and they diagnosed me with 10 to 25% chance of walking again.

However, he beat the odds with therapy and mental will and is now already back to walking and wrestling coaching.

Chris Bey marks one-year anniversary of neck injury: ‘Today, I celebrate life’

One year after a neck injury altered the trajectory of his career, Chris Bey is celebrating the fact that he’s even alive.

Bey suffered a broken neck at a TNA television taping on this day one year ago. Despite initial fear that he would never walk again, Bey is now able to live an independent life and recently made an appearance at TNA Bound for Glory. He can walk, drive himself, and do pretty much everything he needs to live day-to-day, but whether Bey will ever be able to have another match is still unknown.

Even if he does not wrestle again, Bey is content with everything and knows he’s here for a purpose.

“Wrestling has always been my life LONG before I made it a career. Since I was 3 I’ve been addicted and I’ve known this was what I wanted to do with my life. Rarely does one get to chase and achieve their dreams. If this was to be the end of my journey, I had no regrets in the decisions I’ve made that led me to this moment,” Bey wrote while reflecting on today’s anniversary.

“Had a lot of conversations with God, and understanding that I was still alive for a purpose made me push everyday with an unimaginable strength and drive. The support of my amazing girlfriend [Brittnie Brooks], the best tag team partner ever [Ace Austin], TNA and the entire wrestling world kept me feeling like I mattered and I was cared about. I’m so grateful and thankful for all of it. The work from doctors and staff, top notch. Today, I celebrate life because a year ago I thought it was the end of mine. Greatest Story Ever Told is far from over. I love you all. – Chris”

In addition to appearing at Bound for Glory, Bey was presented with a TNA All Star Award before the show. He’s a three-time tag team champion for the promotion. Bey has said that the door is open for him to potentially contribute behind the scenes in a role like producing while he recovers from his injury.

“I truly look at it like, I’m going to let time tell me. And I’m going to let my body tell me,” Bey recently said on Talk is Jericho while addressing a possible in-ring return. “I think when I think about wrestling, it’s not so much about going back to wrestling and getting back in wrestling as much as it is at least finishing my story my way, whether that means one more match or one more program, whatever it is.”

Bey’s girlfriend Brittnie Brooks also made an Instagram post today reflecting on how proud she is of him.

Chris Bey now ‘able to live an independent life’ after broken neck

TNA star Chris Bey continues to hit huge personal milestones as he defies the odds in his broken neck recovery.

It’s been nearly one year since Bey suffered a broken neck during an in-ring accident while competing at a TNA TV taping in October 2024. There was initially doubt that he would ever walk again, but Bey is back on his feet and has now been discharged from physical therapy. On a new episode of Talk is Jericho, Bey revealed that he is able to live an independent life where he can do things on his own.

“I’m completely independent where I can dress myself, I can feed myself,” Bey said. “One of the things that I struggled with last was my grip strength as far as opening things. I couldn’t really open bottles and stuff. And I still have trouble depending on the type of bottle, opening things. But I can drive myself now. I can pretty much do everything that I need to do, you know, on the day-to-day basis.”

The one thing Bey is not able to do, at least at the moment, is wrestle. His present goal is just to wake up and feel good in life. As far as long-term, Bey believes he’ll be able to wrestle again one day even if it’s just one more match — but he knows that it will be no time soon.

“I truly look at it like, I’m going to let time tell me. And I’m going to let my body tell me,” Bey said. “I think when I think about wrestling, it’s not so much about going back to wrestling and getting back in wrestling as much as it is at least finishing my story my way, whether that means one more match or one more program, whatever it is.”

The 29-year-old Bey said he wants to eventually focus on having a family one day. While out of action, he’s open to contributing in other roles like producing or even doing something on-screen. Bey said he’s talked with TNA about potentially shadowing other agents when he’s able to. Bey noted that part of his recovery has been learning how to speak again, so doing something like commentary would help him build up those skills.

Bey made an appearance at TNA’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view in Lowell, Massachusetts last weekend. Before the show, TNA President Carlos Silva celebrated him with a TNA All Star Award.

In TNA, Bey is a three-time Tag Team Champion and was one of the promotion’s top up-and-coming stars before his injury.

TNA celebrates Chris Bey with All Star Award

Over Bound for Glory weekend, TNA Wrestling celebrated Chris Bey by honoring him with one of the company’s All Star Awards.

It was nearly one year ago in October 2024 that Bey suffered a broken neck in an in-ring accident while competing for TNA. The injury was scary and Bey was given little chance to walk again, but he is back on his feet and has the long-term hope that he’ll be able to wrestle again one day.

Bey was in Lowell, Massachusetts for TNA Bound for Glory weekend and even made an appearance on the pay-per-view broadcast. Before the show, TNA President Carlos Silva presented Bey with an All Star Award that TNA has started to give out at its big events. The award celebrates people who make significant contributions to TNA on screen or backstage.

“Chris walked in, and Chris was different than he was 3-4 months ago when I saw him,” Silva said about seeing Bey. “Chris was now not just a guy that had been injured and was working to get better, it was like he was back. And the way he was moving, and the way that, of course, he was smiling, and the positive energy that he gives off — it felt so good for me to see that. And so, Chris, we’re so happy that you’re here and here to celebrate and hopefully to break the [TNA North American attendance] record with us tonight.”

Bey dedicated the award to everyone in TNA and shared the good news that he has been discharged from physical therapy.

“I’ll keep it simple: obviously, this award belongs to all of us. God is great. I’ve had a tough year, but a fun year still, because I like journeys,” Bey said. “I like the difficulty because it makes for great stories. But, also, I like to watch what you guys do because it motivates me, it makes me work harder. So every time I see you guys breaking records or doing great shows, doing great business with other companies, it helps me push my next workout. It helps me push my next therapy session. Which, I did officially just get discharged from physical therapy. But it takes a village. So you guys keep doing what you do. I’ll keep doing what I do. And together we’ll keep winning. I love you all.”

Bey told ESPN this summer that, while out of action, he would like to use his talents to help contribute behind the scenes and help other wrestlers. He is a three-time TNA Tag Team Champion, having held the titles with Ace Austin, who is now in AEW.

TNA Bound for Glory notes: Hall of Fame, Xia Brookside, Chris Bey, record attendance

Here’s a few news items from TNA’s Bound for Glory on Sunday:

Chris Bey made a special appearance to announce an attendance of 7,794 which TNA said is their North American record.

**********

As is tradition, TNA held its annual Hall of Fame ceremony prior to Bound for Glory which featured several familiar faces appear on camera.

For Mickie James’ induction, husband and current WWE SmackDown GM Nick Aldis appeared on camera as did current NXT star Jordynne Grace whom James notably feuded with near the end of her TNA run. Former WWE & TNA wrestler Victoria/Tara also appeared to give James the original Knockouts title belt. For the Beautiful People’s induction, Awesome Kong made a video appearance.

Former TNA star and fellow Hall of Famer Traci Brooks was the host for the ceremony.

**********

It was announced during the broadcast that Xia Brookside had to miss the Call Your Shot gauntlet match due to an illness. No other details were given. Her tag team partner Lei Ying Lee did compete in the match.

**********

In a bit of a surprise, NXT’s Kelani Jordan retained the TNA Knockouts title by defeating Indi Hartwell. Jordan won the title at September’s Victory Road by defeating the aforementioned Lee for the title vacated by Ash by Elegance. As noted on commentary, Hartwell’s family was in attendance after a four-flight journey to be there.

**********

Spike Dudley walked out with Team 3D for their final match with The Hardys for the NXT & TNA Tag Team titles.

**********

There will be an “After The Glory” special following this Thursday’s TNA Impact which is a show already taped.
