Impact Digital Media title changes hands at Wrestling Revolver event

Rich Swann defeated Matt Cardona to win the Impact Wrestling Digital Media Championship at Saturday’s Wrestling Revolver event, but Cardona refused to relinquish the belt.

Swann pinned Cardona at Wrestling Revolver Vegas Vacation on Saturday, but in an angle, Cardona left with the physical title belt and is still claiming to be the Champion.

Both Swann and Cardona cut promos that were posted on social media with regards to the dispute.

Replays of the show are available on FITE TV.

This angle will likely play out on upcoming episodes of Impact Wrestling, which airs Thursdays on AXS TV and on YouTube.

Cardona had held the title since the January 21 Impact tapings, winning the belt from the first-ever Digital Media Champion Jordynne Grace on a show that aired on February 3.

Impact’s next pay-per-view event, Slammiversary, airs Sunday, June 19 at 8 p.m. Eastern time on traditional PPV and on FITE TV.

Matt Cardona wins Impact Wrestling Digital Media title

Matt Cardona got his first taste of Impact gold Thursday as he defeated inaugural Digital Media Champion Jordynne Grace for the title.

Cardona made the challenge two weeks ago, saying he was the original Internet Champion which was the inspiration for the Digital Media title.

The story of the match is that it was Cardona’s first intergender bout and he had issues going after Grace as a result. Eventually, he took advantage of a distracted referee, hitting Grace with a chair and Radio Silence to get the pin and win the belt.

Later, Cardona was interviewed and said it was his biggest day after winning the gold. When asked about what Chelsea Green would think about how he won it, he told interviewer Gia Miller to instead ask ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham was it was like to be married to a loser.

Grace became the first champion at October’s Bound for Glory, winning a six-way tournament final match. She had defended the title successfully four times.

The belt was created to be defended on the company’s social media channels.

Change to Digital Media title match at Impact Bound for Glory

Impact announced on Twitter this morning that Dashwood is out and Madison Rayne will take her place. She will be one of six people competing for the new championship in a match that will also include John Skyler, Crazy Steve, Fallah Bahh, Jordynne Grace, and Chelsea Green.

“BREAKING: @TenilleDashwood will not be at #BoundForGlory and has requested that @MadisonRayne replace her in the Digital Media Championship Tournament final, which IMPACT management has granted,” Impact wrote on Twitter.

The Digital Media Championship, which was introduced in September, is meant as a secondary title. Both men and women can compete for the championship.

Six-way Impact Digital Media title tourney final set for Bound for Glory

The six-way final for the inaugural Impact Digital Media Championship at this Saturday’s Bound for Glory pre-show has been finalized following this week’s remaining qualifying matches.

Chelsea Green (w/ Matt Cardona) defeated Madison Rayne (w/ The Influence) to advance to the Digital Media Championship tournament final

This was a short match. The Influence kept helping Rayne gain the upper hand until Cardona finally attacked Kaleb with a K. That distraction allowed Green to dodge Rayne who accidentally punched Dashwood off the apron, turned around, and got hit by Green’s Unprettier for the pin.

Tenille Dashwood (w/ The Influence) defeated Alisha Edwards to advance to the Digital Media Championship tournament final

This was a dominant win for Dashwood. She usually gets in most of her offense after being assisted by Kaleb and Rayne but this time, she controlled the match from the get-go. Edwards had a short comeback, but was quickly cut off, taken down with the corner crossbody and hit with the Spotlight kick for the win.

Green and Dashwood will compete against Fallah Bahh, Jordynne Grace, John Skyler and Crazzy Steve in the six-way for the new title that will be defended on the company’s digital media channels.

Here’s the current lineup for this Saturday’s live pay-per-view from Las Vegas:

  • Impact World Champion Christian Cage vs. Josh Alexander in a title match
  • Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo vs. Mickie James in a title match
  • Knockouts Tag Team Champions Decay (Havok & Rosemary) vs. The IInspiration (Cassie Lee & Jessie McKay) in a title match
  • Vacant X-Division title three-way: Steve Maclin vs. Trey Miguel vs. El Phantasmo
  • Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers vs. either FinJuice or Bullet Club in a title match
  • Heath and TBD vs. Violent by Design
  • Call Your Shot gauntlet match
  • Impact Digital Media Championship six-way match: John Skyler vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Fallah Bahh vs. Jordynne Grace vs. Tenille Dashwood vs. Chelsea Green

Jordynne Grace, Fallah Bahh advance in Impact Digital Media title tourney

Week two of the Impact Wrestling Digital Media Championship tournament continued with two additional first round matches on Tuesday and Wednesday as the six-way match to crown the inaugural champion approaches on the October 23rd Bound for Glory pre-show.

The new championship will be defended on the company’s digital media channels.

First Round: Fallah Bahh defeated Sam Beale (w/ The Learning Tree) to advance in the Digital Media title tournament

This was a squash that lasted about four minutes with Beale only getting the upper hand for about half a minute after Bahh distracted himself by diving on the rest of the Learning Tree. Bahh beat up Beale using his size advantage, took out Zicky Dice and Manny Lemons and got the win with a banzai drop.

First Round: Jordynne Grace (w/ Rachael Ellering) defeated Johnny Swinger (w/ Hernandez & The Swingerellas) to advance in the Digital Media title tournament

The match was mostly comedy with Swinger trying to get one up on Grace who mostly didn’t sell Swinger’s attacks and instead overpowered him to remain in control. Swinger’s only offense was snapping Grace’s neck on the ropes, but she quickly recovered. The finish saw Hernandez try to get involved, but Grace pushed Swinger into him and then locked in a sleeper for the submission win.

Bahh and Grace join John Skylar and Crazzy Steve in the six-way final with two more matches remaining next week.
