  • Mysterio talked about his relationship with Liv Morgan: “Man, she’s the absolute best. She brings out the best in everybody because she’s always just so positive, very encouraging, honestly, just a joy to be around and absolutely blessed to be able to work with her. I started off with Rhea Ripley, went on to Liv Morgan. Two of the best of the best. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about Liv, and I hope that we stay together. We work for a reason. There’s lots of gold around the Judgment Day, and it’s thanks to her.”
  • Liv Morgan talked about her upcoming match against Stephanie Vaquer: “I love it, because honestly, Stephanie and I really have no business together other than: I want your championship. And so I think that we’ve made it really personal and really physical. They know we do not like each other. I think they know it’s on site when we see each other. Like, I’m talking about her mother. WWE

  • WWE uploaded the full Ethan Page vs. Shiloh Hill North American Championship match that headlined NXT last night.
  • Kevin Nash deleted the tweet where he apologized for using the term “Mr. Bojangles” in regards to Je’Von Evans. In a reply to a fan who was critical of his apology, Nash wrote that he won’t be saying anything about Evans again:
    • No worries. I won’t make the mistake of saying anything about The Young OG. I’ve read the comments, and I agree. If he fails, it’s on him. Haven’t seen a comment from anyone who’s made millions in the business. I didn’t coin him an ‘Original Gangster’ Won’t change my life either way.
  • Evans appeared to reference the situation in an Instagram post today that was accompanied by the nWo Wolfpack theme music:
    • ‘Just Wanna Apologize Real Quick….Im Sorry For Being The Best In Da Game Right Now!! Elimination Chamber Bout To……Ya’ll Finish The Rest’ -Je’Von Evans #TheYoungOG
  • Paul “Triple H” Levesque posted a tribute to former WWE director Kerwin Silfies following his passing:
    • Today, the @WWE family lost one of our beloved members. Kerwin Silfies was a huge part of the company’s programming since the mid-1980s. Over his 35+ year tenure with WWE production, he directed countless episodes of Raw and Smackdown, PLEs, and of course WrestleMania. With a dry wit and an unmatched passion for his work and his coworkers, Kerwin affected hundreds of employees and millions of fans. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.
  • Adam Pearce wrote the following:
    • Godspeed, Kerwin Silfies.
    • When I started working on Raw and SmackDown back in 2015, you were so patient and accommodating as I found my way. Always a steady, calm voice with your trusty mini notepad in hand, ready to take note of what we had cooked up. ‘Ok whaddya got, Adam?’ you’d ask me as you went around the room, listening.
    • Teaching.
    • I learned to see what we do through your director’s eye, to understand camera placement in a way I hadn’t before, and I always wondered how you always stood so calm under intense fire.
    • Cool as the other side of the pillow. Experience, red wine, talent?
    • All of the above, I surmise.
    • Thank you for letting a punk kid sit under your learning tree. And though I’m no connoisseur, the next time I have a taste of the vino it’ll be in a toast to you.
    • Rest well, Kerwin.
    • And thank you, sir.
  • AEW commentator Taz recorded a brief podcast remembering Silfies.
  • WWE Hall of Famer Typhoon (Fred Ottman) shared that everything went well with his pre-surgery consultation and things look good heading into his operation on February 23. Ottman recently spent approximately a month in the hospital after his gallbladder “exploded” and released poison into his body.
  • CM Punk’s old ROH theme “Miseria Cantare” by AFI will be included in WWE 2K26.

Sunday Update

Tommaso Ciampa AEW TNT Champion

— We did our weekend show last night talking about the Royal Rumble, UFC, Collision, Hobbs, Ava and lots of other subjects. Our Friday show was one of the best we’ve done of late with Alex Marvez as guest talking about the life and times of Kim Wood.

–Brie Bella’s return last night was not a one-night thing. She’s going to be back for at least the time being.

— As most would expect, right now the plan for WrestleMania is Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre. Jacob Fatu could be added to that match.

— Dynamite in Las Vegas on Wednesday:

  • Kenny Omega vs. Andrade
  • Adam Page vs. Mark Davis – winners of these matches face off no 2/14 with the winner facing the AEW champion on the 3/15 PPV show
  • Ricochet vs. Jack Perry for the National title
  • MJF vs. Brody King – if King wins he gets an AEW title shot on 2/14

They will also be taping Eddie Kingston &  Ortiz & Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith & Grizzled Young Veterans in a parking lot brawl for Collision.

— We’re looking for your thoughts on last night’s Royal Rumble, thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

— UFC’s show yesterday was the No. 2 show in the world on Paramount +. It was No. 3 in the U.S.

— Royal Rumble was No. 3 in the world yesterday for television shows on Netflix and SmackDown was No. 7. What makes that impressive is that it doesn’t include U.S. viewing.  First day viewing of Smackdown was No. 2 in Australia, No. 2 in  Canada, No. 4 in India, No. 5 in France, No.  2 in New Zealand,No. 2 in Saudi Arabia and No. 3 in the U.K. That’s for the day, not the week.  Rumble for yesterday was No. 2 in Canada, No. 2 in France, No. 2 in Mexico and No. 1 in Saudi Arabia.

— UFC last night did about 1.6 million searches, Alexander Volkanovski, Tai Tuivasa, Mauricio Ruffy, Benoit Saint-Denis, and Quillan Salikilld were all among the top 60 searches for the weekend. Royal Rumble did 305,000 with the top individual searches in order going to AJ Styles (by a wide margin and was No. 53 for the weekend when we last checked), Powerhouse Hobbs, Brie Bella, Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar. Ashley Massaro, whose rape accusation and how it was handled by the miliarty came up in the Epstein files, was also on the list.

— Diego Lopes was hospitalized after the show in Sydney last night and said that it looks like he broke both of his feet in his loss to Alexander Volkanovski.

— In the scoring of the Volkanovski vs. Lopes fight, judge Ron Cartlidge gave Lopes round two and Sal D’Amato gave him round three. Clemens Werner gave him no rounds. Among media scores it was 65 percent giving him a 49-46 win and 35 percent at 50-45. There were close rounds so it was not as one-sided as those scores sound, but Volkanovski clearly won the fight.

— Parade Magazine listed the top 14 WWE wrestlers of all-time. I have no idea how they came up with this list:

  • 1.  Flair
  • 2. Hogan
  • 3. Austin
  • 4. Undertaker
  • 5.  The Rock
  • 6.  Reigns
  • 7. Michaels
  • 8. Bret Hart
  • 9. Sammartino
  • 10. Cena
  • 11. Savage
  • 12. Andre
  • 13. HHH
  • 14. Piper

The argument for Flair at No. 1 is that when wrestling experts do all-time rankings, Flair is No. 1 on more lists than anyone.

— I didn’t hear much about great weekend matches, pretty much just AJ Styles vs. Gunther, Mark Briscoe vs. Tommaso Ciampa and Friday’s Claudio Castagnoli vs. Xelhua matches.

–Looking for reports on these shows:

  • *NXT in Nashville and Birmingham over the weekend
  • *AEW last night in Arlington, TX with any matches not airing live.

Looking for results, highlights and finishes to [email protected]

— Thaddeus Bullard, the former Titus O’Neil, received the 2026 Horatio Alger award for leaders who have overcome adversity and support young people in  furthering their education. Bullard will be one of 11 people being honored.

— Dory Dixon, who was just elected into the Hall of Fame last year, turned 92 today. Dennis Condrey of the Midnight Express turned 74. Sean Royal turned 65. Ronda Rousey turned 39 and Saxon Huxley turned 38. Another Hall of Famer, Masa Saito, would have turned 84 today.  Luis Hernandez, the stepfather of Gino Hernandez, was 33 when he died 54 years ago today.  Jack Brisco was 68 when he died 16 years ago.  Brisco was one of the all-time greats. (thanks to Tony Richards)

Wednesday Update

WWE

  • While speaking with Complex News, Seth Rollins gave an update on his recovery from shoulder surgery:
    • It’s coming along. Yeah, it’s coming along. I had surgery almost three months ago now. I can do most normal things like wash my hair and scratch my armpit and all those things. So, it’s good. Still got time. I don’t know exactly when we’re going to come back, but I’m making progress in the right direction.
  • R-Truth told TV Insider that he thinks the existence of “WWE: Unreal” shows how much the industry is adapting to the times:
    • I know everyone has different takes and different views on it. My thought, like everything else, was, like, cool. I wasn’t pro Unreal or anti-Unreal. I wasn’t against it or for it. I think it shows how much the business is growing, adapting, and excelling into things we’ve never seen before. That’s a good thing. We have to adapt. It’s about trying new and different things, whether it’s inside or outside the box. I’m just here to play the hand.
  • BBC Scotland briefly interviewed new WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
  • Jade Cargill attended the premiere of Netflix’s movie “The Rip” in New York City.
  • Kendal Grey appeared on Busted Open After Dark following NXT last night.
  • Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada had a meeting with WWE President Nick Khan: “It was a pleasure meeting with @WWE President Nick Khan who happens to be a former student of mine @UNLV.”

Other Wrestling

  • MJF named Steve Austin as the greatest wrestler of all time (besides himself): “In my opinion. After me of course. When people talk about the greatest of all time. They should be saying Steve Austin.”
  • Limitless Wrestling promoter Randy Carver spoke to Undisputed about booking MJF vs. Alec Price for the AEW World Championship at this Friday’s Limitless Rumble event:
    • I try to never take anything off the table, but this one always felt unrealistic. Yet every year, without fail, the number one vote for the wrestler our fans wanted to see return was the same: MJF. There was a constant heartbeat among the fans that this could happen.
    • Nights like this don’t happen often, but the goalposts continue to move. There’s a beauty to the landscape of 2026 independent wrestling where nights like this can exist.
    • We’re less than 200 tickets away from selling out The Colisee in Lewiston, something that would’ve sounded ludicrous when we took this gamble for the first time. We have a dedicated team committed to making Maine a professional wrestling destination. This Friday is a major step forward for Maine professional wrestling. The possibilities are truly limitless.
  • Alex Windsor reflected on her first Stardom tour
    • Had the absolute time of my life, shared the ring with the greatest talent there is and saw firsthand the highest level every one of these girls work at. The kind of wrestling that I feel most at home and lights that spark. Thank you @wwr_stardom
  • Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling President Scott D’Amore has added on another wrestling role with him joining One Fall Wrestling as a co-executive producer and creative consultant. The indie promotion is owned by QT Marshall.
  • TV Insider asked Mike Santana if he could see himself crossing over into “The Walking Dead” universe now that TNA Impact is on AMC:
    • Absolutely. I read the graphic novel two years before it came out. I have been following The Walking Dead for a long time. So if I got the opportunity to do something with them it would be a huge deal. I followed Breaking Bad, that was an amazing show. There are opportunities for a lot of integration. I think it will be great for everyone involved. As far as I’ve heard, AMC executives are very happy with the reaction everything has gotten so far. This is the first time they are in the sports entertainment business and offering a platform for wrestling. It’s a good time overall. We’re excited.
  • Minoru Suzuki is taking bookings for WrestleMania week in Las Vegas this April: “Any promotions that need me at Mania Week this year please get in touch. KAZE NI NAREeee [email protected]
  • Kurt Angle is set to appear at WrestleCon’s convention on the Friday of Mania week.
  • The “You Know I’m Right” podcast had Kacy Catanzaro (former WWE wrestler Katana Chance) on as a guest.
  • “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan is celebrating his 72nd birthday today.

Thursday Update

WWE

  • The White House streamed today’s executive order signing where Paul “Triple H” Levesque was among those named to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Linda McMahon also attended the press conference.
  • Levesque posted a tweet thanking everyone who has watched WWE: Unreal on Netflix: “The reception of @WWE: UNREAL on @netflix has been incredible so far. Our goal has been to show the passion and drive that goes into our weekly television, as well as showcasing our talent through the highs and lows. Thank you all for watching.”
  • This week’s episode of “What’s Your Story?” is a conversation between Stephanie McMahon and John Cena.
  • On the show, Stephanie mentioned that – before Triple H’s heart issues in 2021 – she was always worried about losing him early. Now that he’s survived that, the feeling has gone away and she is no longer worried about him dying young. She opened up about realizing what’s important in life:
    • I believe in helping people as much as you can, if you can, even if that’s just listening to them, even if that’s just smiling at somebody that you don’t know. My favorite thing in the world is smiling at a little kid walking by and they smile back. That’s like the greatest feeling. Simple things are what it’s all about.
    • And I think that’s what you learn, if you learn, the longer you live. It’s not about the material stuff. It’s about the stuff that matters most. And, you know, I almost lost Paul, my husband. And what’s weird, and I haven’t talked about it, is I always had a feeling that I was going to lose him early. I just had that feeling. And after we got through everything, that feeling went away.
    • It’s like a pattern that was supposed to have been changed. And it was, I mean, such a gift, truly. And then I started going through all this stuff in the company, and I realized there is nothing more important to me than my family, than my husband and my kids. That’s what matters most, and I want to give as much time as I possibly can. I’ve given everything I possibly have to the business, you know, my whole life. And I wanted to give back to them. And that’s when I took that first leave of absence, which didn’t last very long. But I knew what mattered, and I know what matters now.
    • And I believe that love is what life is all about. And if you can help somebody in any way, I think that that is what it’s all about. You know, it’s about giving back.
  • Damian Priest and Zelina Vega surprised a young fan by inviting them and their family to attend SummerSlam and meet Rhea Ripley.
  • WWE wrestlers including Vega, Aleister Black, Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez volunteered at the Nourish NJ soup kitchen today.
  • Vega was interviewed on a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet.
  • Cody Rhodes made appearances on ESPN First Take and WFAN Radio.
  • Jey & Jimmy Uso took The GQ Brothers Quiz, answering questions to see how well they really know each other.
  • Busted Open Radio has an interview with Jade Cargill.
  • The Toronto Sun’s No Holds Barred podcast spoke with Sami Zayn ahead of SummerSlam.
  • WWE uploaded a SummerSlam week vlog featuring Dominik Mysterio.
  • Logan Paul also uploaded a new vlog episode.
  • Lex Luger reacted to the passing of Hulk Hogan: “This one really hit me. Needed some time to process it all. Thank you Hulkster for all you did for me and so many others. My heartfelt prayers and condolences for your family and closest friends. I will see you again in heaven my friend. Save me a ringside seat”

Sunday Update

Goldberg
Goldberg

[email protected]

— Bryan and I did a show last night covering AEW, ROH, WWE and NXT big shows over the weekend and will be back tonight covering WWE Evolution.

— We are doing polls on these four weekend shows:

  • ROH Supercard of Honor
  • AEW All In Texas
  • NXT Great American Bash
  • WWE Evolution

You can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match for each show to [email protected]

— WWE Evolution starts at 7 p.m. Eastern from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. As of this morning there were 7,301 tickets out.

  • Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley for the World title
  • Tiffany Stratton vs. Trish Stratus for the WWE title
  • Becky Lynch vs. Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria for the IC title
  • Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez defend the tag titles against Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, Zaria & Sol Ruca and Asuka & Kairi Sane
  • Jacy Jayne vs. Jordynne Grace for the NXT title
  • Jade Cargill vs. Naomi no holds barred with Bianca Belair as referee
  • Battle Royal with Nikki Bella, Stephanie Vaquer, Ivy Nile, Natalya. Maxxine Dupri, Kelani Jordan, Jaida Parker, Lola Vice, Lash Legend, Izzy  Dame, Tatum Paxley, Zelina Vega, Sol Ruca and Candice LeRae. Torrie Wilson is scheduled at the show.

— Sting and Wardlow were backstage at the AEW show yesterday. Wardlow is back from filming American Gladiators in England.

— For major match recommendations, the only matches aside from the All In matches that people have brought up to me are Kazusada Higuchi vs. Harashima from DDT and Bandido vs. Konosuke Takeshita from the ROH show. I haven’t gotten any reports on today’s Dragon Gate show as far as quality of matches or anything.

— The 8/24 NXT Heatwave PLE from Lowell, MA booked the same day as AEW’s Forbidden Door in London, is listing a 6:30 p.m. local start time meaning they are looking at 7-9:30 p.m. It’s notable that the AEW show will probably have the first match at 2 p.m., the main PPV card at 3 p.m. and I believe in London they have to end due to curfew at 7 p.m. Eastern time. So they have to be over before the ROH show starts. It’s surprising WWE would do this because if anything, they aren’t going to hurt the AEW show by not going head-to-head (whether they would even doing so is a debatable point) but they put  themselves in a disadvantageous position on the day being the second show after a long first show.

— Wrestletix listed attendance for All in at 26,153 and I’d expect at least 2,500 were comps. Tony Khan said close to 29,000 at the press conference but he didn’t have the final total. We heard they had topped 28,500 for a combination of paid and paper at about 2 p.m. so maybe if that’s accurate that 29,000 is possible with another hour before the main show started.

Khan also said at the press conference it was the highest advanced orders for a PPV they have done. I can’t confirm that but advanced orders are a small percentage of total orders. We did hear only that Amazon Prime had its highest number, but that’s a given as they’ve only done a few shows and if this show wasn’t the biggest so far this year that would be a major disappointment.

— Charles Robinson was chosen to referee last night’s Bill Goldberg vs. Gunther match because he was the referee of the 1998 Hulk Hogan vs. Goldberg match at the Georgia Dome.

— Due to timing issues, they went off the air just seconds into Goldberg’s speech. We heard it was a tremendous speech, and it can be found here. He talked about the flood victims 30 miles from his house in Texas and said all his neighbors dropped everything to lend a helping hand to those who needed a helping hand. His father-in-law just passed away last week.

The show ended with Cody Rhodes giving a speech thanking Goldberg saying you made the table that we can eat off now and we are eating very good. He said Goldberg was Georgia royalty and Atlanta royalty and told fans to chant Goldberg for him.

Goldberg’s walk-out entourage last night was Ernest Miller, Diamond Dallas Page, Josh Barnett, Doug Dillenger, Chuck Zito and Gage Goldberg.

— Dana White said after yesterday’s show that everyone wants to be on the July 4, 2026, show at the White House. White said it will be a PPV card and will be the best card they could possibly put together during the summer of 2026. The cage will be on the South lawn and the visual will be the White House on one side and behind will be the Washington Monument. White had previously said the crowd would be those invited and tickets would not be put on sale for the live event.

— Dragon Gate had its biggest show of the year today with Shun Skywalker beating Yamato for the Open the Dream Gate title. Hiroshi Tanahashi was there and met with Yuki Yoshioka and basically told him he wanted Yoshioka’s splash off the top to be called the high fly flow.  Tanahashi & Dragon Kid beat Yoshioka & Dragon Dia.

— Tanahashi will also work on the 8/31 DDT show at Korakuen Hall. Zack Sabre Jr. & Kosei Fujita face Chris Brookes & Takeshi Masadsa on 8/30.

— Merab Dvalishvili was voted the 2025 ESPY Fighter of the Year. The nominees were Kayla Harrison, Dricus du Plessis, Dvalishvili and Islam Makhachev.

— My highest recommendations to the Players Tribune documentary on Mark Briscoe that was released on Thursday.  It talked with Mark’s parents, Mark, as well as Jay’s wife and Jay’s three children and had lots of footage of Mark & Jay growing up.  Wrestling was certainly part of it but it was not a wrestling doc, but a family doc. Still  if you’re voting in the 2025 awards you really should see it.

— No update on Adam Cole or Seth Rollins past what has already been talked about. Rollins was not scheduled to cash in the briefcase on Bill Goldberg or Gunther. I presume Gunther is facing CM Punk for the title at SummerSlam but that would likely be made official tomorrow or at least heavily teased.

— SmackDown numbers on Friday night on Netflix vs. Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor, the boxing match promoted by MVP Promotions and Jake Paul:

  • In Canada, SmackDown was in first place for Netflix English language television show (movies are a separate category as is non-English programming) viewing and Taylor vs. Serrano was second.
  • In Australia, Taylor vs. Serrano was first and SmackDown was second.
  • In India, SmackDown was No. 3 and Taylor vs. Serrano didn’t crack the top ten
  • In New Zealand, SmackDown was No. 3 and Taylor vs. Serrano was No. 1.
  • In Saudi Arabia SmackDown was No. 2 and Taylor vs. Serrano didn’t crack the top ten.
  • In the U.K., SmackDown was No. 1 and Taylor vs. Serrano was No. 2
  • In the U.S., Taylor vs. Serrano was No. 1 and Smackdown aired on USA and not Netflix.

— CMLL promoter Salvador Lutteroth was in Dallas this week. A number of readers noted to us they said high and we were told he absolutely loved the Young Bucks match with Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay.

For weekend Google searches in the U.S.:

  • Adam Cole and Seth Rollins both had 100,000 searches
  • Taylor vs. Serrano had 200,000
  • All In Texas and Saturday Night’s Main Event had 50,000
  • Bill Goldberg had 50,000
  • The UFC show last night had 140,000
  • Taylor vs. Serrano had 200,000

I didn’t see anything on the Great American Bash and I saw numbers as low as 500.

— Alex Windsor was the only surprising name on the search list at around 500.

— Overall for yesterday, AEW searches were 1.8 times higher than those for WWE in total which is very rare. But like with PPV numbers, it really won’t be until mid week we can get an accurate read on them and what they really mean in the big picture. A typical day WWE is 2.1 to 2.5 times that of AEW but AEW on a PPV day will be higher. To me the real comparison is the AEW show vs. WWE recent PPV shows and we don’t have that yet.

— It appears All in Texas will air free in the U.K. on Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on ITV 4. (thanks to Bob Magee)

— House of Glory and GCW both sold out on Friday night in the Dallas area. ROH sold out far in advance (only 1,300 or so) so a lot of people in the area went to the other shows:

— House of Glory results: Infamous b Danny Orion to keep the cruiserweight title, Midas Black & Jay Lyon b Zack Zilla & Warren J, La Sombra (no relation to Andrade) b Brick Savage, JJ Doze won over LC Mox, Eddie Martinez, LVJ, Bam Bam Balone and Matty Ight, JD Griffey b Amazing Red, Indi Hartwell b Hyan (Shotzi Blackheart attacked Hartwell after the match), Zilla Fatu b Chrles Mason via low blow DQ.  Next show is 8/1 in New York with Ricochet vs. Amazing Red, Hartwell vs. Priscilla Kelly and Carlito. (thanks to Samuel Rosenthal).

— Paul Walter Hauser debuts in the U.K. for Progress Wrestling on 8/25, the day after Forbidden Door, in London. Hauser won the Proteus title for the promotion over Mania week in London.

— Josh Matthews was on the AEW Zero Hour show last night. He’s been with the company backstage for some time.

    • Everywhere I go, every signing, people have been wishing me luck. I definitely feel the expectation from the people. And I want to show to the young talent in DDT that this is a possibility for them. I go overseas a lot, and it makes me proud that now younger guys in DDT want to give that a shot. Now there’s the possibility for them to go into BOSJ as well, and that’s gonna make everyone in DDT work harder.
  • Joe Hendry spoke to WrestleTalk about how he approaches his responsibilities as TNA World Champion:
    • It’s hugely rewarding. There was a period of time where a lot of colleagues were getting signed and I was kind of wondering if and when things would happen for me.
    • But I was enjoying the process of what I was doing so much and I was so focused on getting the best reactions that I could from the fans, that all the opportunities came as soon as I shifted my focus into just giving the audience the best entertainment that I possibly could.
    • But to now be here as TNA World Champion, it’s an amazing feeling and a responsibility that I enjoy, and my focus is just trying to deliver record business for TNA.
    • I want people to look back and say, ‘Joe Hendry as World Champion, The Hardys as tag champs, that meant big business for TNA.’
    • So I’m excited for the business that the entire locker room is doing for the company and everyone backstage and the fans as well. TNA’s a hot product right now and, yeah, onwards and upwards.
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Indi Hartwell reflected on the match she had against Becky Lynch for WWE in 2023:
    • My anxiety was through the roof that day. I don’t think I’ve ever been more nervous for a match, but she was amazing to work with. I’m so grateful that she spoke up and asked to work with me and I think Tegan and Xia Li, so she helped us a bunch. That was one of my only singles matches on the main roster, because I was in the tag team. So yeah, I learned a lot from her and I just feel grateful that I got to work with her.

Thursday Update

WWE

  • It’s been announced that, in the United Kingdom and Spain, Saturday Night’s Main Event will air live on YouTube on December 14.
  • While speaking with TV Insider, Trish Stratus gave her thoughts on WWE adding Women’s United States and Intercontinental title belts:
    • I think it’s amazing. This is exactly what we wanted back in the day. We wanted the same opportunities and exposure as the men. Now this is a big step to have that level of competition. Having the titles means you’re going to have matches for those titles. There is room for multiple feuds over the titles and influx of characters. It creates opportunities for more characters on the show, who happen to be female.
  • TV Insider asked Stratus if there’s anyone from today’s roster that she especially enjoys watching:
    • Nia Jax, I’m so happy she came back. She has a great presence. She has been owning it. I really enjoy watching her. I have this weird thing where I don’t think I could fully retire until I’m rag-dolled by her. Is that weird? Imagine that? Then I can retire [laughs].
  • Cody Rhodes told Jazzy’s World TV that Bayley is one of the current locker room leaders in WWE:
    • Here’s the thing I don’t think people know about Bayley – she’s probably the actual current locker room leader. Like, if you’ve got a captain, you know, the ‘C [for captain]’ on the jersey, it’s probably her and Randy Orton. In terms of, you need something done, ‘Hey, such and such doesn’t need to be late anymore. Hey, we need energy for this show.’ She’s the locker room leader – and she should be.
  • Trick Williams was the guest on the latest episode of No Contest Wrestling.

WWE

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita will be in action for DDT Pro Wrestling on January 3, competing for the promotion in Japan for the first time since July. He’s also set for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4 and Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
  • The Butcher (Andy Williams) celebrated the five-year anniversary of his AEW debut, writing that he loves everything the promotion allows him to do:
    • Yesterday was 5 yrs with @aew for me. I feel like I’ve lived 50 lives since then. Monocle, pants sash, long hair, tassels, fat, shredded, bald, Malenko trunks, bunk house Butch, white clothes,..etc. Now I’m rampage man or something. Love what this company has allowed me to do.
  • Chris Van Vliet asked Jake “The Snake” Roberts if it bothers him that he never held a championship in WWE:
    • No, not at all. My god, I’m grateful I did not have to carry that too. You know, I carried a 50 or 60 or 75 pound snake around, and we’d be on the road for two and three weeks at a time, all your clothing, everything you gotta carry, the last thing I want is a 10-pound belt to carry around too. Would I have liked to have had a championship? Yeah, of course. You know, that would have been something, but I had had several championships up until then. Maybe not [the] WWF Championship, but I’d had several – Calgary, I had it in Louisiana, and Mid-South. I had it in Texas. I had it in different places around, Mid-Atlantic. So I’d had my time with the belts. I mean, it was all right. I would have liked to have had the money that was associated with that belt. But how can I complain about [the] career that I had?
  • While speaking with TV Insider, Eric Bischoff reacted to next year being the 30th anniversary of WCW Nitro’s debut:
    • My show 83 Weeks is a nostalgia-based show, so I’m always looking into the history of the Monday Night War with WWE and WCW and all those things that happened during that era. I live in that era. In that sense, to me, that time was yesterday. The Mall of America, when you say that was almost 30 years ago? I think, ‘Not a chance.’ It seems like yesterday in a lot of ways, but in others, it seems like a lifetime.
  • Due to an injury suffered in pre-match training, NJPW Young Lion Masatora Yasuda had to miss today’s World Tag League event. His scheduled pre-show match against Daiki Nagai was pulled from the card.
  • Amazing Red is the latest talent confirmed for GCW’s show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Sunday, January 19.
  • Josh Barnett vs. Royce Isaacs in a Bloodsport match has been announced for GCW’s Highest in the Room event in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 14.
  • Slam Wrestling published an obituary paying tribute to wrestler/actor/stuntman Scott L. Schwartz, who passed away this week at 65 years old.

  • In an interview with Q1057 & 1035 radio in Albany, Allin praised Bryan Danielson following Danielson’s retirement from being a full-time active performer:
    • Bryan Danielson is the guy you could call upon last second and have an amazing match. He was such a team player. There wasn’t anything he wasn’t willing to do for the company. He had no ego. He was a lot like Sting. He was a really good energy to have.
  • Due to a broken foot, Paquette was on crutches backstage at Dynamite last night. She still conducted interviews on the show despite her injury.

    • She is our women’s world champion, beating Toni Storm in one of the best storylines in women’s history. So to see her rise this fast and to see how good she is in the ring, it’s so incredible. • At the premiere for the movie, Bautista told Cathy Kelley how proud he is of Drew McIntyre for his acting performance and everything he’s accomplished in pro wrestling:
    • He did amazing. Like, people are going to be blown away by Drew in this. He’s so funny, and he’s just so charismatic. It was perfect. And I’ve known Drew for a very long time and we’ve stayed in touch well before this. I watched Drew grow up in this business. I’m super proud of him, man. I’m proud of what he’s accomplished.
  • McIntyre took part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session to promote the movie ahead of it being released in theaters this Friday.
  • Here’s the lineup for this Friday’s NXT Level Up episode:
    • Luca Crusifino vs. Niko Vance
    • Kendal Grey vs. Tyra Mae Steele
    • Cutler James & Shiloh Hill vs. Uriah Connors & Kale Dixon

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW uploaded post-Dynamite promos from Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher, Ricochet, The Acclaimed, and Grizzled Young Veterans.
  • Ricochet shared a brief moment reuniting with his friend and trainer Chuck Taylor during the post-show promo. Last night’s Dynamite took place in Kentucky, where Ricochet and Taylor are both from. Taylor is working behind the scenes in AEW right now but hopes to return to the ring in the future despite dealing with a career-threatening ankle injury.
    • “This is nuts, man,” Taylor told Ricochet. “I’m so happy you’re here, man. It’s great to see you.”
    • “That’s awesome. Chuck Taylor, bro. Literally my first day of training, he was there to help me out. And he’s been there basically my whole career,” Ricochet said. “So, to answer your question, once again, it feels awesome to be here. All Elite Wrestling – where the best come to wrestle. And not only that, but I have so many friends in the back, it honestly feels like home to me. So I’m just ready for the future and what I’ve got to do here in All Elite Wrestling.”
  • In her Mone Mag, Mercedes Mone wrote about attending the premiere for “The Killer’s Game”:
    • Yes, after multiple pay-per-views I was tired, but I prioritized supporting my friends, including my wrestle friends. And you know why? Because my wrestle friends have always supported me. Whether wrestling for New Japan in my first appearance post-WWE or my debut at AEW, the likes of Naomi, Bayley, Tamina, and others were there for me. It’s never easy for them with their schedules and with their own jobs but there they were – and there I’ll be!
    • So, when I got the invite for the premiere of The Killer’s Game starring my friend Drew McIntyre, you bet I was gonna be there to support. Ditto for Bayley, who also flew in. It’s always great to see Pam (Bayley), even in these quick spurts. Along with seeing her and Drew, I got to see another old friend, Cathy Kelley, who looked as beautiful as ever doing her thing. I hope this opportunity elevates Drew to additional outside opportunities. Regardless, he is starring in a big movie, and for that he should be so proud.
  • Willow Nightingale named Lee Moriarty, Bryan Danielson, and Eddie Kingston as dream opponents if she could have an intergender match in AEW.
  • Adam Copeland told AMNY that he and his wife Beth Phoenix are considering the idea of opening a wrestling school:
    • One thing we have talked about is maybe starting a type of finishing school, where, if there are people within the industry that feel like they’re just missing a little something, [well] come on down to Asheville because you got FTR, you got me, and you got Beth Phoenix. We’re debating that and then just seeing if that’s a time commitment that we even have at this stage.
  • Jake Something will compete for Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling at the promotion’s debut weekend on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20.
  • 90 Day Fiance star Paola Mayfield is joining Women of Wrestling for their new season.
  • Matthew Justice vs. Jesus Rodriguez in a Barrio Brawl has been added to the TV taping portion of MLW’s Fightland event in Atlanta this Saturday.
  • Actor Stephen Amell appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

Friday Update

– Afa Anoa’i just passed away today at the age of 81. He had a number of serious health issues in recent months. This comes less than two months since the death of brother and tag team partner Sika. We send our best to the family. We are also apologetic for reporting this yesterday on X. Afa & Sika were a legendary tag team in the 70s and early 80s and part of one of the largest pro wrestling families in history, which include WWE stars Roman Reigns, The Usos, Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu and countless others including Umaga, Rikishi, Yokozuna, Tonga Kid, Afa Jr., Black Pearl, Zilla Fatu, Rosey and Gary Albright. What a week with the deaths of Kevin Sullivan and Dennis Brent.

– Garrett Gonzales and I will be doing our week in review show today. If you have any questions for the show on topics in the current issue you can send them to [email protected] and in particular anything on Kevin Sullivan. The weekend show with Bryan Alvarez will be tomorrow night.

– The new issue of the Wrestling Observer is up on the site right now. We have a giant story on the life and career of Kevin Sullivan. It’s one of the biggest stories we’ve done in recent years covering this very unique person who wore a lot of hats in the industry and had a lot of very significant influence on aspects of the genre.

Among the other topics covered:

– Cain Velasquez pleaded no contest in his attempted murder case today in San Jose. His trial was scheduled to start in three weeks. The plea bargain agreement was that the charge of premeditated attempted murder was dropped. If he had been convicted of that charge he would face mandatory life in prison, although with the possibility of parole. Judge Arthur Bocanegro will decide on his punishment at a date to be determined. The District Attorney in the case did say Velasquez would be facing prison time. What hurt Velasquez in this case is that a search of his phone found he was looking up searches for “sexual assault case where the victims family fights back” and “sexual assault cases where victims family retaliates,” which showed this was not a momentary rage but something he had been looking up before he chased down Harry Goularte, who was accused of molesting his young son at a daycare center. Velasquez chased a car with Goularte in it for 11 miles and fired shots which hit Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender in the arm. He was arrested and spent eight months in jail before being released on bail. After release he did one pro wrestling match for AAA and had been training fighters at the AKA School in San Jose.

– Kathleen Finch, the chairman and CEO of WBD’s U.S. networks, which include TBS and TNT, announced that she would be retiring at the end of this year. Channing Dungey, the Chairman and CEO of Warner Brothers Television Group, will be her successor. Finch was and is a big proponent of AEW and always talked positively publicly about the product and its ratings success. We are told that this is not expected to affect the contract negotiations for a new deal or AEW in general’s day-to-day business. Finch started as a programmer for the Food Network in 1999 after working 12 years as a reporter for CBS News.

– Tony Khan said that AEW will run a show in England in 2025. He said All In would be in Texas but they would have something in London as well. He didn’t specify the venue.

– We send our best wishes to Bobby Fulton of the Fantastics, who has been battling cancer on and off for years. Fulton had surgery on Tuesday to repair his throat from the years of cancer treatments and during the surgery had heart complications. He will be seeing a cardiologist shortly. He has been responding to people on Twitter wishing him the best.

– FuboTV’s lawsuit against ESPN, FOX, WBD and Hulu to block the debut of Venu, the streaming service that would have ABC, all the ESPN channels, TBS, TNT, TNT Sports, FOX, The Big 10 Network, FS1 and FS2 that was due to debut next week, won the first round today, blocking the launch of the service. ABC Disney, WBD and FOX have said that they will appeal this ruling.

– SmackDown tonight from Orlando, which will be sold out with more than 13,500 fans, has DIY vs. Street Profits with the winners getting a tag title shot, Kevin Owens vs. Grayson Waller, Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes, Blair Davenport vs. Naomi, Tiffany Stratton throws a party for Nia Jax, and Roman Reigns appears.

– Rampage tonight on TNT at 10 p.m. has Mark Briscoe & Tomohiro Ishii & Orange Cassidy vs. The Butcher & The Outrunners, Nyla Rose vs. Erica Leigh, Nick Wayne vs. Kip Sabian and Top Flight vs. MxM Collection. This was taped Wednesday so Mansoor is not going to be in two places at the same time in real life. It’ll only appear that way, since he’s in the semi at Aena Mexico tonight as well.

– There are less than 30 tickets remaining for the Q&A show that I’m doing with Bryan Alvarez on the morning of All In. The event takes place at 11 a.m. at the Tattershall Castle steamship in downtown London across from the London Eye and a five minute walk from Big Ben and Parliament. For more info, click here.

–Nic Nemeth vs. Josh Alexander in a one hour Iron Man match for the TNA title headlines the 8/30 special from Louisville.

– We’re looking for reports from these weekend shows

  • SmackDown tonight in Orlando (non-Smackdown matches only)
  • AAA TripleMania tomorrow in Mexico City
  • WWE house show tomorrow in Lakeland, FL
  • AEW in Arlington, TX (matches not on Collision)
  • WWE house show Sunday in Estero, FL

We’re looking for results, finishes and highlights to [email protected]

– We’re doing weekend polls on both the Saturday and Sunday New Japan Sumo Hall G-1 semifinals and finals shows, so you can leave a thumbs up, down or middle, best and worst match for each show to [email protected].
