Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and former Bellator MMA fighter Jake Hager made his Power Slap debut on Friday a successful one.
Hager won by third round knockout over Devin “Big Jinxx” Jenkins (seen below).
Hager’s AEW contract expired in May 2024 and he was very critical of Tony Khan in an interview that came out last year, saying he was “very jaded” about his exit and lobbing claims about FTR that the team later refuted. He wrestled ten times following that exit, but has not been in the ring since November 2024.
He competed four times for the now-defunct Bellator MMA, going 3-0-1 and last fighting in October 2020. In a September 2023 interview, he said he was retired from MMA.
Also on the show, Lance Anoa’i scored a knockout win over Amanpreet Singh in his Power Slap debut while “Hollyhood” Haley J picked up a decision win over Destiny McCubbin.
Lance Anoa’i shocked the live crowd at House of Glory Winter Warfare at the NYC Arena on Friday night.
Anoa’i teamed with his second cousin Zilla Fatu on the show, challenging Matt and Jeff Hardy for the promotion’s tag team titles. The finish of the match saw Zilla Fatu setting up to deliver a Samoan Spike to Matt Hardy when Anoa’i suddenly superkicked Zilla and followed up with a spear. Anoa’i then exited the ring area while declaring, “It’s my time!” as Matt Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on Zilla Fatu for the win.
Anoa’i signed with WWE in November 2024 but was released in October after never wrestling an official match while under contract. In an interview with Muscle Man Malcolm last month, Anoa’i said he plans to carry on the Bloodline legacy on the independent wrestling scene.
“I’m just going to keep going and carry the Bloodline on the independent scene. We got Zilla, Journey Fatu, we’re all right there. Now I get to actually be in the same building and run with the boys,” Anoa’i said.
Footage of Anoa’i turning on Zilla Fatu is available below.
Lance Anoa’i says injuries led to a “missed opportunity” at WWE.
WWE announced it had signed Anoa’i in November 2024 but he was released in October after having never wrestled a match while under contract. During a recent interview with Muscle Man Malcolm, Anoa’i said that back-to-back injuries led to him being released with two years left on his contract.
“I still had another two years on my contract. I found out… I forget the day cause from that moment on, I knew it was right back to the grind,” Anoa’i said on the show.
“I was blessed to be there. I was happy to be there. I learned a lot. Unfortunately, injuries weren’t on my side.”
Anoa’i explained that he suffered a sports hernia his first week at the WWE Performance Center. Then he tore his shoulder just three weeks after being cleared to return. He was cleared again in September but the company released him the following month.
“I think just the injuries is what cost me everything. I cost the company more money than what I was making them. I was one of the older ones there. Back-to-back injuries.“
“I had a sports hernia my first week in the PC. I know I read on the internet that I was hurt going in. No, I got hurt in the Performance Center.”
“Then I got cleared for three weeks and then tore my shoulder right after that. And then I got cleared the end of September and then released in October.”
Anoa’i continued to say that his family, including his father Samu, was upset when they learned he’d been released from his contract.
“My family was very upset, especially my dad. But honestly, it was they knew I didn’t get the opportunity. They knew I could have I could have been up there. I could have been one of the top guys. I could have been with Solo. I could have been with Roman. I could have been wherever. You just put me in that spot. I could have ran with it.”
He continued by saying he plans on carrying on The Bloodline on the independent scene with others from his family.
“I’m just going to keep going and carry the Bloodline on the independent scene. We got Zilla, Journey Fatu, we’re all right there. Now I get to actually be in the same building and run with the boys.”
Anoa’i wrestled his first matches in over 15 months recently. He worked back-to-back nights in New Jersey for Titan Championship Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Junkie on November 15 and 16.

Lance Anoa’i of the Samoan pro-wrestling bloodline has revealed his next goal and destination.
The son of Samu, the 33-year-old Anoa’i was a part of the NXT roster. However, he parted ways with the promotion even before formally making his television debut. A part of the several recent releases and exits, Anoa’i recently shared his next goal on social media.
Despite him signing an NXT contract in 2024, Anoa’i’s debut was halted due to an injury.
Anoa’i made his in-ring debut in 2010 and has been in the industry for over a decade now. He is most vividly known for his MLW run till 2023. Following his MLW tenure, Anoa’i made his debut for Pro Wrestling NOAH in 2023, where he participated in the N-1 Victory 2023.
Before being signed, Anoa’i made his WWE debut on SmackDown in December 2014, teaming with Rhett Titus for a loss to The Ascension. They next lost a tryout match against AOP in 2017 and later had another separate tryout in 2019. His big moment came in May 2019, when he was squashed by Shane McMahon before being saved by Roman Reigns.
“I would officially announce my departure from WWE! I didn’t have the best of luck since I arrived! I will not let this stop me from achieving to be great! I’ve worked hard on the indies for 15 years! Now let’s get back to work! 30days Accepting bookings [email protected].
Anoa’i, who never officially made his debut for the company, announced early on Friday that he was gone from the company. According to his post on social media, he has a 30-day no compete.
“I would officially announce my departure from WWE! I didn’t have the best of luck since I arrived! I will not let this stop me from achieving to be great! I’ve worked hard on the indies for 15 years! Now let’s get back to work! 30days Accepting bookings [email protected],” he wrote.
WWE confirmed Anoa’i signing last November. However, injuries had kept Anoa’i from ever making his debut. Fightful Select reported earlier this month that while recovering from one injury, Anoa’i suffered another injury that kept him away from the ring.
Anoa’i is the son of Samu and started wrestling in 2010. Since then, he’s made appearances in MLW and Pro Wrestling NOAH. Prior to being signed, he also appeared on the May 27, 2019 edition of Raw where he faced Shane McMahon.
Another Bloodline family member is officially under contract with WWE.
On Friday, WWE made a social media post unveiling its latest class of NXT signees. Lance Anoa’i — the son of Samu and grandson of the late Afa the Wild Samoan — is among those featured. The 32-year-old Anoa’i is a former member of the MLW roster and spent a few months competing for Pro Wrestling NOAH in 2023. He’s made some enhancement talent appearances for WWE over the years and was involved in an angle with Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon in 2019.
When he was in MLW, Anoa’i was part of a new version of the Samoan SWAT Team with Jacob Fatu and Juicy Finau. Anoa’i & Finau had one reign as the MLW Tag Team Champions.
Former NFL players Elijah Holyfield (the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield) and Trill Williams are also now confirmed as signing with WWE and joining the Performance Center. They both had tryouts with the company this summer. Holyfield played running back at the University of Georgia, while Williams was a defensive back for Syracuse University. After college, each had a brief NFL career.
Also included among the recruits is Zaria — who debuted on NXT last month and is being featured on television prominently. She’s from Australia, formerly wrestling under the name Delta.
The other members of the class are:
Camden Gagnon (football)
Kyle Klink (football)
Chase Kline (football)
Tatyanna Dumas (Australian stunt performer and basketball player)
After appearing on last night’s NXT from the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Rob Van Dam teased that he’ll be back in the future. RVD responded to a fan who said they wished he had a match on NXT: “Me too. But I’ll be back.”
WWE uploaded the full 10-woman tag match from NXT where Zaria, Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, Kelani Jordan & Jordynne Grace defeated Roxanne Perez, Cora Jade, Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx.
Lance Anoa’i looks to be the latest Bloodline family member to sign with WWE. He was spotted among the NXT talent at a recent charity event. The 32-year-old Anoa’i is the son of Samu and grandson of Afa.
Pro Wrestling NOAH wrestler Yoshiki Inamura commented on his arrival to the WWE Performance Center: “Finally made it here!!! Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. I will keep moving forward!!! Arigatou gozaimasu [thank you]”

AEW Meal & a Match made its return today with Darby Allin appearing as Renee Paquette & RJ City’s guest.
In an interview with Q1057 & 1035 radio in Albany, Allin praised Bryan Danielson following Danielson’s retirement from being a full-time active performer:
Bryan Danielson is the guy you could call upon last second and have an amazing match. He was such a team player. There wasn’t anything he wasn’t willing to do for the company. He had no ego. He was a lot like Sting. He was a really good energy to have.
I am super proud to watch from afar. She came in as a super fan, just loving wrestling, loved it so much that she moved from England to Japan, trained out in Stardom just to hone her craft, and now she’s here.
She is our women’s world champion, beating Toni Storm in one of the best storylines in women’s history. So to see her rise this fast and to see how good she is in the ring, it’s so incredible. Like I said, we have the best women’s division in the game right now. And I’m definitely looking at the title that she has around her waist.
The Anoa’i family considers Tama Tonga as one of their own.
Our own Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that Tonga is headed to WWE and some fans have been wondering if he could potentially join The Bloodline when he arrives.
While Tonga did not appear in the family tree The Rock displayed at the WrestleMania 40 press conference earlier this month, Haku (Tonga Fifita) and his sons are considered part of the dynasty.
Lance Anoa’i spoke to Steve Fall recently about his family’s relationship with Tonga, his brothers, and his father.
Anoa’i said:
Every time I see Haku, he’s my uncle. A lot of respect for him. I believe it’s just more like the island culture. You know, we’re all from the South Pacific. So the islanders just stick together man like it’s just one breed. But yeah, I seen Tama Tanga growing up. I hung out with them while I was out in Japan. Whenever our schedules blessed us to meet up and have dinner. So there’s always love there. And man, I don’t know if it’s true or not. I’ve been reading on the internet that Tama Tonga has signed. Man and if he did, good for him, because I think it’s well deserved and about time.
However, Anoa’i continued to say he hopes Tonga aligns with Jey Uso on Raw.
Jey is kinda all alone. We do consider Tama as family. So I think Jey can use some help [on Raw]. Especially when you know Solo and Jimmy keep creeping over the wall and attacking Jey and then setting up hopefully for I believe a Wrestlemania match. That’s what we’re hoping for.
The Rock has long referred to Haku as an uncle despite there not being a blood relation between the two. In 2015, he gifted “Uncle Tonga” a truck.
Tonga and his brother Tanga Loa are seven-time IWGP Tag Team Champions in NJPW as The Guerrillas of Destiny. Their team would eventually turn into a stable after Tonga was kicked out of Bullet Club. The group now consists of Loa, Hikuleo, Jado, and El Phantasmo. Hikuleo and ELP are the current Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions.
Anoa’i was granted his release from MLW in October. He told Steve Fall in a previous interview that part of the reason he asked to be let go was that he was missing out on opportunities to be with his family on WWE programming.
Lance Anoa’i says missing out on opportunities, such as appearing on WWE programming with his family, played a role in him asking MLW for his release.
Anoa’i told Steve Fall of Wrestling News recently that he was unable to take part in a Tribal Court segment on WWE TV and an A&E special due to his MLW deal. He also says MLW hadn’t offered him any dates after he returned from a tour with NOAH.
“I was in Japan, I told them when I was getting back from Japan, they had no dates for me. They had nothing for me,” he said.
However, not being able to appear on WWE programming also factored into his decision.
“I just wanted that freedom mainly for right now, especially with my family being on top of the best company there is,” Anoa’i said. “I missed a few opportunities being with MLW. That one on A&E. I missed the possibility of being on the Tribal Court they were doing, bringing in the family, I missed that opportunity. And now, I can do it all. I can be at extra work, I can be at tryouts, nothing is stopping me now, so I’m just ready to go.”
“The Tribal Court, they wanted a lot of us. They asked my grandfather, my dad, my uncles, me, Jacob (Fatu), they wanted us all and unfortunately due to our contracts and everything, we weren’t able to,” Anoa’i continued.
He says they pitched to be allowed to appear on WWE programming, saying it would bring increased exposure to MLW.
“We pitched that point and we got shut down. We don’t know why. It is what it is. We just ran with it. They even did the A&E special filming my whole family at our family reunions and we weren’t allowed to be in any of it. So, it was just a few missed opportunities and hopefully, it just comes right back around and everybody will be able to see how big our family is still growing.”
MLW filed an antitrust lawsuit against WWE on January 11, 2022, accusing the company of interfering with its streaming and television deals as well as tampering with contracted talent. The promotion filed an amended lawsuit in March 2023, alleging WWE interfered in a TV rights deal with Reelz.
Anoa’i and his Samoan Swat Team tag partner Juicy Finau were released on October 29. Finau had been with the company since April 2022. MLW announced they had signed Anoa’i in May 2022. They held the promotion’s tag titles earlier this year from January 7 to July 8.
Two members of the MLW roster are headed for free agency.
Lance Anoa’i & Juicy Finau, two-thirds of the Samoan SWAT Team, have been granted their MLW releases. Both announced the moves on social media on Sunday.
Anoa’i & Finau are former MLW Tag Team Champions as part of the Samoan SWAT Team stable, dropping those titles at Never Say Never in July. Neither has wrestled for the company since that event.
Anoa’i posted:
As Of TODAY! I have been granted my @MLW Release! I wanna thank MLW! Wanna give a big shout out to my USOs @JuicyFinau and @SAMOANWEREWOLF Thank you for everything! Love you guys! #SST
Finau posted:
As of today I’ve been released from @MLW Just want to thank everyone I’ve crossed paths with while I was there. Extremely thankful to MLW for the opportunities! Especially wanna thank my brothers @SAMOANWEREWOLF & @lanceanoai IM NOW A FREE AGENT TOKO OUT! OFAS
It is worth noting that Anoa’i & Finau have announced that MLW has in fact granted them releases, while Fightful Select reports that the promotion does not intend to grant the release request of its former World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone.
Hammerstone posted on Sunday that he has asked for his release from the company and has been removed from the promotion’s roster page, but his release has not been confirmed.
Anoa’i is the son of Samu, a former WWF Tag Team Champion, and a cousin to Roman Reigns & The Usos. He has done work for WWE in the past as enhancement talent, most recently in 2019 in a match against Shane McMahon on Raw as part of angle involving Reigns.
Jacob Fatu, another of Anoa’i’s cousins and the third member of the MLW iteration of the Samoan SWAT Team with Anoa’i & Finau, is challenging for MLW’s World title at Fightland on November 18.
As Of TODAY! I have been granted my @MLW Release! I wanna thank MLW!
This week’s MLW Fusion was taped in Philadelphia as part of their Battle Riot tapings earlier this year with Matt Striker & Joe Dombrowski on commentary.
Mister Saint Laurent and Microman opened the show by introducing us to Microman’s new theme song which had MSL singing along and orchestrating the crowd to do the same.
This brought out Davey Boy Smith Jr. who has been receiving some mixed reactions since returning to MLW. Smith shook Microman’s hand, but then hit him with a big boot and a running powerslam.
During the attack, MSL feigned shock and horror. However, when Smith grabbed MSL by the neck, Smith and MSL’s faces both turned to grins as they revealed the ruse and their new evil partnership. Smith gorilla pressed Microman out of the ring and onto The Mane Event, who had come out to try and save their friend. MSL and DBS shook hands again and left together.
MLW Middleweight Champion AKIRA defeated Lince Dorado to retain the title
This was a decent match that had a very innovative finishing sequence involving Dorado losing his mask. This was AKIRA’s first defense of the Middleweight belt as he only won it a few weeks ago from Dorado in a triple-threat match which also included Lio Rush.
Dorado had an urgency in the early going and hit fluid ushigoroshis before showing off some great high-flying action with a running no-touch dive over the top rope to the floor and a torneo from the top rope when back in the ring.
AKIRA came back into the match when he crotched Dorado in a Tree of Woe and hit a running dropkick. He later dropped Dorado on his knee with a backbreaker.
Dorado hit a flipping DDT and moonsaults from two of the ropes, but AKIRA got his boot up to Dorado’s jaw on the third attempt.
AKIRA hit a German suplex, which he missed earlier, and got a close two count. As the back-and-forth action continued, AKIRA hit some running boots in the corner. Dorado came back with a handspring stunner and a brainbuster, but AKIRA grabbed and removed his mask while Dorado was attempting another handspring.
Instead of leading immediately to the finish, they were able to pull off some near falls and spots while Dorado was covering his face. Dorado kicked out of a running knee and then countered a piledriver into a hurricanrana, all while keeping his face hidden behind his arm.
Dorado eventually reached for his mask, but this gave AKIRA an opening to hit his Death Penalty elevated reverse DDT and pick up the pinfall win to retain his title.
– After last week’s “expose” exposing those that are not the financial backer of Alex Kane’s Bomaye Fight Club, this week’s second installment had the final four suspects: Conrad Thompson, Jim Cornette, Queen Latifah, and Dixie Carter. Similar to last week, all four were confirmed as not being the financial backer, but we will find out who is this Saturday at Never Say Never.
– In the gym, the Second Gear Crew were talking tactics ahead of their title match later tonight, which included a table drawn on a whiteboard, Hindu squats, and plenty of beers.
– After last week’s attack on Featherweight Champion Delmi Exo, Taya Valkyrie has been fined and suspended for one week. This led the commentary team to question whether Exo will be fit for her title vs. title match this Saturday against wXw Women’s Champion Ava Everett.
Mandy Leon defeated Billie Starkz
Leon continued her winning ways in MLW against the impressive Starkz. Leon has joined forces with Raven, AKIRA, and Ricky Shane Page as part of the main heel faction The Calling, and had to call upon her stablemate henchmen to get the win.
Before Leon’s entrance, a video featuring The Calling was shown. Page challenged Jacob Fatu for his National Openweight title and it was mentioned that Leon is gunning for the Featherweight title.
This match was only a few minutes long, but they put a lot of effort into their time. A German suplex and an Unprettier on the apron had Leon in control. Starkz came back with suplexes on the outside and inside, but the masked Calling henchmen distracted the referee and pushed Starkz off the top rope to give Leon the win.
– Ahead of their MLW title match at Never Say Never, Alex Kane and the champion Alex Hammerstone cut promos backstage. Hammerstone took offense at being called a placeholder by showing how he has bettered Kane at every step during their similar paths in MLW. Kane’s promo was more straight to the point as he again called Hammerstone “roid boy” and guaranteed a win Saturday.
MLW Tag Team Champions The Samoan SWAT Team (Juicy Finau and Lance Anoa’i) defeated The Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders & Mance Warner) to retain in a hardcore match
The build for this match was one week long and emerged from a friendly sharing of beers backstage last week. That was all these four needed to sign on for a hardcore match, which says a lot about the crazy characters involved here. The match was a callback to the old ECW classics involving The Gangstas where weapons were sprawled all around the ring.
We were straight into the action as all four threw chairs at each other before the outside brawling began. Finau’s head became a weapon against Warner before the “Southern Psycho” decided to go for the eyepoke to get some non-head-related offense in.
Manders threw a chair at Finau on the outside, but it spun off and hit a security guard and tumbled into the front row as the chaos continued. Tables were brought into the ring and set up for a splash from off a ladder.
Warner exploded into life with chair shots to the tag champs followed by Anoa’i taking a big bump off the top of the ladder and through another ladder that was resting in the corner.
Finau squashed Warner with a powerslam, but immediately ate more chair shots from Manders.
Manders then found himself on a table after more chair shots and brawling. Finau went to the middle rope, but was caught by Warner and more chair shots. Warner then ended up on Finau’s back, but the huge tag champ only used this extra weight to continue and crush Manders with a middle rope splash through the table leading to a pinfall victory and the champions retaining their titles.
After the match, and for the sixth time this episode, The Calling’s music hit as AKIRA, Page, Delirious and gas-masked henchmen jumped the SST and Second Gear Crew, all as Raven and Leon watched on.
But unlike most other Calling attacks, the SST got the upper hand and sent The Calling up the ramp as they brawled with Warner and Manders, all after Finau had launched a ladder over the top onto Page, who only saw it coming at the last minute.

Samoan Dynasty member Lance Anoa’i has officially signed a contract with MLW.
The signing of Anoa’i was announced by MLW CEO Court Bauer during an appearance on Busted Open Radio on Thursday morning. Anoa’i is part of the newly formed Samoan Swat Team in MLW with Jacob Fatu and Juicy Finau.
“We’ve just signed Lance Anoa’i. Lance is the son of Samu, the cousin of The Rock, cousin of Roman Reigns, and he’s a third generation wrestler, grandfather is Afa Anoa’i and he’s part of our new-era Samoan Swat Team with Fatu and big Juicy [Finau] and I think this is gonna be an exciting time,” Bauer said on Busted Open Radio. “You’re gonna see the hottest faction — they debuted in Philly and they basically were the most in-demand T-shirt, everyone wanted to see their match. I think we got something special with the new era S.S.T.”
Anoa’i & Finau teamed together to defeat Los Aztecas (Uno & Cinco) at MLW’s Kings of Colosseum television tapings earlier this month.
Anoa’i has made appearances as an enhancement talent for WWE in the past, including facing Shane McMahon on an episode of Raw in 2019.
Bauer also announced on Busted Open Radio that Fatu will be an entrant in MLW’s Battle Riot match next month. Killer Kross, Lince Dorado, Calvin Tankman, Alex Kane, Marshall Von Erich, and Fatu have now been confirmed for the 40-man match. The winner receives an MLW World Championship shot whenever they want it.
The Battle Riot tapings are being held at the Melrose Ballroom in New York City on Thursday, June 23.
A new-era version of the Samoan Swat Team is set to debut in MLW.
MLW has announced that Jacob Fatu is forming a new incarnation of his family’s Samoan Swat Team faction. The group will consist of Fatu, Lance Anoa’i, and Juicy Finau.
Anoa’i & Finau will team together at MLW’s Kings of Colosseum television tapings this Friday, taking on the masked Uno & Cinco of Los Aztecas.
A new faction arrives in Major League Wrestling this Friday.
The Samoan Swat Team ravaged the tag team circuit in the 1980s and 90s with Samu and Fatu warring with the likes of the Steiner Bros., Von Erichs, Freebirds and countless others as they took the world by storm.
Now, the next generation of one of wrestling’s great tag teams will unite and debut on Friday, May 13 in Philadelphia.
Recently, Fatu and Cesar Duran have been quarreling. After a vicious attack at the hands of Bestia 666, Cesar Duran and his considerable influence and never-ending army of luchadores have only escalated in their attacks and games. It’s clear Jacob Fatu is fighting a one man war. So, ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ is countering by forming his own swat team!
In addition to Fatu, the swat team features a powerful combo of speed, power and force in Lance Anoa’i and Juicy Finau.
Lance Anoa’i, the son of Samoan Swat Team founding member Samu, grandson of Afa and cousin of The Rock, is a blend of agility and innovation. Teaming with Jacob Fatu over the years, Lance and Fatu are as close as it gets in and away from the ring.
And while Tongans and Samoans have at times been engulfed in their own wars, including possibly a king being eaten during a contentious island conflict, Tongan Juicy Finau is family to Fatu. Super heavyweight Finau and Fatu represent the west coast of the Polynesian family. A proud Tongan with a devastating arsenal that defies and quite possibly breaks gravity, Finau rounds out what could be this decade’s most dangerous and promising team.
Cesar Duran has welcomed Fatu’s swat team to MLW… by signing a bout sheet for their debut as the SST in Philadelphia against Cesar Duran’s Los Azteca Uno y Cinco.
Will Duran’s duo dash the debut of Fatu’s SST or will Fatu’s swat team wreck shop? Find out LIVE Friday night, May 13 in Philadelphia at MLW Kings of Colosseum!
Fatu will also be in action at Kings of Colosseum. He’s facing Mads Krugger in a “Weapons of Mass Destruction” match. The ring and ringside perimeter “”will be militarized with weaponry all around it and inside of it” for that match.
Kings of Colosseum is being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The updated lineup for the tapings is listed below.
MLW Kings of Colosseum (Friday, May 13) —
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Richard Holliday (w/ Alicia Atout)
Taya Valkyrie vs. Holidead to crown the inaugural MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion
Weapons of Mass Destruction match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
nZo vs. Lince Dorado
MLW Tag Team Champions Hustle & Power (EJ Nduka & Calvin Tankman) defend against The Von Erichs (Ross & Marshall Von Erich) and 5150 (Slice Boogie & Danny Rivera) in a triple threat match
