Will Ospreay says BOSJ match vs. Ricochet ‘changed everything’

New Japan Pro Wrestling, Will Ospreay and others are reflecting on one of the greatest matches in Best of the Super Juniors history.

On May 27, 2016, Ospreay defeated Ricochet in a match that went 16 minutes and 47 seconds and headlined a show at Korakuen Hall.

There were those who were negative on the bout, most notably former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader, who criticized it for not telling a story and instead focusing on acrobatics.

Ospreay reflected on the match in a social media post on Wednesday, saying that he’s grateful to have been part of the “flippy s–t generation.’”

Ospreay wrote:

“10 years ago today was the match that changed everything. It’s crazy how quick time has flown by. Seeing where me and ricochet are now in our careers makes me smile. Grateful to have been part of the ‘flippy s–t’ generation.”

NJPW wrote:

“#onthisday in 2016, one of the most talked about matches in Best of the Super Jr. history had Will Ospreay facing Ricochet!”

Dave Meltzer wrote:

“This was the match that made my son a fan of pro wrestling. He never watched it, met Ricochet that year and saw how people reacted to him and wanted to see one of his matches. That’s the match I chose.”

Meltzer also wrote of the match in the June 6, 2016 edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament got a major viral reaction when a GIF of the 5/27 Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay match spread across social media.

The match was a state-of-the-art match for its time. It can be compared, like the recent Dragon Lee vs. Kamaitachi matches in Mexico, to a modern version of the Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid matches in the early ’80s that put junior heavyweight wrestling on the map. The match contained moves, spots and acrobatics, along with hard hitting strikes and innovative wrestling moves.”

Meltzer rated it four and three-quarter stars.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricochet, Kevin Knight segment part of updated AEW Dynamite lineup

A new match is scheduled for this Wednesday’s three-hour Dynamite & Collision special.

Chris Jericho will meet Ricochet on Dynamite with a stipulation where everyone will be banned from ringside.

“After their teams waged war in Stadium Stampede at #AEWDoN, Jericho/Ricochet will fight 1-on-1 with everyone banned from ringside TOMORROW NIGHT!,” Tony Khan wrote on social media.

At Double or Nothing, Chris Jericho’s team emerged victorious in the Stadium Stampede match, with Jericho and his team members unleashing a seven-way superkick. Jericho then finished off Ricochet and pinned him to win the match.

Jericho’s victory over Ricochet was the first since his return at AEW Dynasty, where he lost to the former National Champion in a singles match. He then coming up short again after teaming with the Hurt Syndicate in a losing effort against The Demand later that month, then again after teaming with The Young Bucks against Ricochet and members of the Don Callis Family.

It was also announced that Kevin Knight will be speaking following the events of Double or Nothing, where he turned against Darby Allin by giving him a UFO splash off the turnbuckle onto a gurney as Allin was being stretchered out. AEW star’s finishing moves in leaked new Virtua Fighter game footage

The finishing moves of AEW stars Will Ospreay and Ricochet appear to be coming to the new Virtua Fighter game. Leaked footage of the newest iteration in the series (Virtua Fighter 6 Crossroads) shows what appears to be both the Hidden Blade and Spirit Gun being used.

The footage was posted to X by Self Made AO, showing off first the Hidden Blade and then what appears to be the Sprit Gun. There is currently no confirmation that the game has any sort of affiliation with All Elite Wrestling, but Ospreay did react to the footage, saying “never in my wildest dreams did I think a move I made up in the Hidden Blade would be in Virtua Fighter.”

AEW and Virtua Fighter 6 Crossroads

Virtua Fighter 6 Crossroads does not currently have a release date, although there is a lot of anticipation ahead of the CEO 2026 fighting game tournament in August, where fans are expecting a trailer to be dropped.

Again we do not have information currently regarding Virtua Fighter and AEW having any sort of official affiliation. There have been multiple fighting games in the past that have had pro wrestling links, like the Bullet Club merch you could get in Tekken 7, but it is not known at this time if the moves being added are in tribute or if there will be some sort of official collab.

Chris Jericho teaming with Young Bucks on AEW Dynamite/Collision

Before Double or Nothing, Chris Jericho will team up with The Young Bucks in trios action.

That Stadium Stampede bout is a 14-man match where Jericho, The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, Kenny Omega, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin are on one side. Their opponents — with representatives from The Demand, Don Callis Family, and The Dogs — are Ricochet, Andrade, Davis, The Gates of Agony, Clark Connors & David Finlay.

Serving as the final build to Double or Nothing, Dynamite and Collision are airing live as a combined special this Wednesday night. The show is being held at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine and will run from 8-11 p.m. Eastern time on TBS and HBO Max.

Chris Jericho’s Stadium Stampede partners revealed for AEW Double or Nothing

Chris Jericho’s Stadium Stampede match partners for AEW Double or Nothing have been revealed.

After Ricochet interfered and cost Jack Perry his AEW National title to Mark Davis at AEW Fairway to Hell, Perry announced himself in Jericho’s corner. Ricochet’s Demand is set to team up with members of the Don Callis Family to take on Jericho’s team at Double or Nothing.

However, running a few partners short, Perry announced the rest of Jericho’s team for the Stadium Stampede match. In a backstage segment, Perry announced the Elite’s presence in Jericho’s corner.

The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Perry are set to team up with Jericho to face Ricochet, The Demand, Mark Davis, and one other member of The Don Callis Family.

Updated AEW Double or Nothing match card

Stadium Stampede match returning for AEW Double or Nothing

For the first time in five years, the Memorial Day tradition of AEW Double or Nothing will be once again paired with a Stadium Stampede match.

The bout will feature Chris Jericho, part of the inaugural match in 2020, and four partners against Ricochet, the Gates of Agony and two other men.

Made on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Jericho had a verbal confrontation with Ricochet after he wanted another shot at Ricochet given his recent attacks. Ricochet eventually agreed, but only if it was a Stampede match, questioning if Jericho could even find other partners.

A brawl broke out between Jericho, Ricochet and the GOA before all three Hurt Syndicate members (Bobby Lashley, MVP and Shelton Benjamin) ran out for the save, indicating three of Jerich’s partners may be set.

Jericho’s Inner Circle took part in the 2020 Stampede, but were on the losing end of things to The Elite. The Inner Circle did pick up the win in the following year’s match, defeating The Pinnacle, also at Double or Nothing. The last Stampede bout took place at 2023’s All In from Wembley Stadium.

Report: WrestleCon main event featuring AEW’s Ricochet almost got scrapped

After the much-awaited Ricochet vs. Leon Slater match was canceled, it was replaced by Ricochet and GOA vs. JetSpeed and Michael Oku, which got almost canceled again.

In the main event of the WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial SuperShow, fans witnessed AEW Trios teams, The Demand (Ricochet & Gates of Agony), facing off against JetSpeed (along with Michael Oku).

However, according to a recent report by PWInsider, The Gates of Agony’s (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona) flight into Las Vegas was delayed and landed well beyond late.

Soon after their flight landed, Liona and Kaun rushed from their plane and headed toward the Horseshow in Las Vegas, where WrestleCon was taking place. In the process, they also abandoned their luggage at the Las Vegas airport and had their gear in their carry-ons.

Wrestlecon added extra time to some of the undercard matches and even added an additional match between Man Like DeReiss and Ethan Allen in order to give GOA time to get to the venue, so that the main event could go on as planned,” PWInsider wrote.

In the end, everything worked out, although there were worries throughout the show about delivering what was promised to the audience. The new main event was planned and arranged after TNA had decided to pull out their talents from matches against AEW wrestlers.

Wrestlecon promoter says Leon Slater wasn’t going to lose match against Ricochet

Leon Slater was set to face Ricochet at the WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow during WrestleMania weekend.

Both Ricochet and Slater are currently experiencing the run of their lives. While Ricochet is a former AEW National Champion, Slater is the current TNA X-Division Champion. Previously booked to wrestle each other at the WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow, the promoter has now revealed that Slater was never booked to lose the match.

Speaking to John Pollock & Wai Ting of POST Wrestling, WrestleCon promoter Michael Bochicchio opened up about the situation.

We went directly to Leon’s boss. We went directly to Ricochet’s boss. We told them what the finish of the match would be to protect the individual. A lot of people think, ‘They didn’t want Leon to lose.’ Guys, I’m going to be honest, Leon wasn’t losing. Come up with a different theory on why they pulled him because that had nothing to do with it. The match and finish were cleared,” he said.

However, days before the match, TNA decided to pull out and scrap all of their TNA talents vs AEW wrestler matches.

The first communication I got from TNA was about two hours before their PPV on Saturday. Mr. Silva sent me a text saying he would like to communicate. That was after we changed and replaced the match. I still haven’t spoken to him. I said, ‘Sure, call me anytime.’ I haven’t heard from him,” he continued.

While many believe WWE had a role to play in TNA’s decision to cancel matches, Bochicchio certainly does not think so. “I believe Carlos got upset AEW ran on a Thursday, hurt their ratings, and everything changed. That’s my opinion. Maybe WWE has more involvement than we ever thought, but Carlos can say to WWE, ‘Guys, I gave my word on this match. I would like to be able to follow through with my word.”

Later, Wrestlecon announced The Demand vs. Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, & Michael Oku as the show’s main event.

Tony Khan says he spoke to Ricochet following controversial social media post

Moments after AEW Dynasty, company president Tony Khan revealed having a conversation with Ricochet over his controversial social media post.

At the AEW Dynasty post-show media scrum, Joel Pearl of Fightful’s In The Weeds asked Khan about Ricochet’s controversial social media comment and if he had a chance to engage in a conversation with him.

Khan claimed that he had a conversation and emphasized how Ricochet’s comments were not “acceptable.” He also confirmed having social media policies and how they were violated by Ricochet.

I did, and I had a conversation with him. I have a good conversation and a frank talk. That was not acceptable, and I think that was communicated. We have a policy and continues to be a policy in place for such things, and that violated it. There is no place for that in wrestling or anywhere. I do appreciate you asking, and we’ve tried to move past that, but thank you for asking,” he said.

In March earlier this year, Ricochet engaged in a controversial, heated moment on social media after he responded to a fan with a harsh tweet after the fan criticized him. Shortly after, he apologized for his comment and behavior.

Several weeks have gone by since the incident, and Khan made it clear that they want to move past it now.

At AEW Dynasty, Ricochet faced and defeated a returning Chris Jericho.

Chris Jericho loses return match at AEW Dynasty

Chris Jericho fails to win a comeback match at AEW Dynasty.

Back in AEW after almost a year, Chris Jericho faced off against Ricochet in a singles match at AEW Dynasty.

In the second match of the night, Jericho failed to secure a victory after facing each other in an almost 15-minute match.

Ricochet received help from his faction members, Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona, throughout the match. The bout ended after Ricochet executed a Spirit Gun, followed by Jericho’s own Lionsault on the veteran. A viral moment from the match also saw Jericho counter a Shooting Star Press from Ricochet into a Codebreaker.

Jericho’s official last match before this was at AEW Dynasty 2025, where he suffered a loss against Bandido. While Jericho was expected to secure the victory in his return bout, it was Ricochet who walked out with the victory.

He earlier returned this year on the April 1st episode of Dynamite in his hometown of Winnipeg, Canada. Last week in Edmonton, he resurfaced his List of Jericho gimmick and signed himself in a match against Ricochet.

WrestleCon reveals new Supershow main event

A new main event has been announced for the WrestleCon Supershow.

WrestleCon revealed that Ricochet will now team with his Demand stablemates the GOA to take on JetSpeed & Michael Oku. In their post making the announcement, they personally thanked Tony Khan and AEW for their part in getting the match together.

“It took some exceptions to make this match happen on our little independent show to honor our friend, and we want to personally thank Tony Khan and AEW for allowing this to happen,” they wrote. “When we lost our main event, we had several wrestlers, management, and agents reach out and offer their help. Thanks to everybody that had a part in putting this one together.”

The original main event had been an interpromotional dream match between AEW’s Ricochet and TNA’s Leon Slater. Despite originally getting clearance by management, it was announced days later that TNA had pulled Slater from the show, citing “partner conflicts.”

A match between MJF and Nic Nemeth was also pulled around the same time, which was set to take place in May for Create-A-Pro. The AEW World Champion was critical of TNA President Carlos Silva following the announcement, saying the choice to remove TNA talent was “disgusting.”

TNA pulls Leon Slater from Ricochet match at WrestleCon SuperShow

After rumors began earlier in the day, reigning TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater is officially out of his highly anticipated match against Ricochet for next week’s WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial SuperShow in Las Vegas.

The reason: TNA president Carlos Silva pulled Slater.

WrestleCon announced the news Wednesday night, stating on X:

“Despite being previously cleared by all parties and respective management, Leon Slater has been pulled from this match one week prior to our Memorial event. We will have more to say at a later time, but we wanted to be immediately transparent to all fans.”

The opponent for Ricochet was not announced.

This follows the news earlier tonight from our Dave Meltzer that Nic Nemeth was officially pulled from his match with AEW World Champion MJF for a May Create-A-Pro event, something that MJF didn’t take kindly too, calling out Silva.

Fightful reported Wednesday that according to sources, Silva wasn’t happy with AEW Collision airing last Thursday head-to-head against Impact even though it was WBD’s call. The outlet had noted earlier Wednesday that Silva pulled some talent from shows due to “partner conflicts.”

To this point, neither Silva, Ricochet or Slater have commented publicly on the situation which we’ll have more on as part of tonight’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

Chris Jericho to wrestle for first time in 371 days at AEW Dynasty, brings back ‘The List’

After more than a year, inaugural AEW World Champion Chris Jericho will make his in-return at this Sunday’s AEW Dynasty and he’s bringing an old gimmick along with him.

He will do so in a first time ever match when he faces former AEW National Champion Ricochet in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Jericho, a full babyface, appeared on Wednesday’s Dynamite to officially sign his new contract when Ricochet and the Gates of Agony interrupted. After Ricochet verbally ran down Jericho and put over how much he feels he has impacted Dynamite, Jericho said part of his contract gives him the opportunity to call out someone without a match for the pay-per-view.

He then said he could pick Bishop Kaun or Toa Liona, but said he was going to do something he hasn’t had to do in ten years but it was “valid” for Ricochet.

“You know what happens when you’re bald, wearing a fancy pants sweatsuit and when Jericho needs an opponent when he doesn’t have one?”

He then revealed his personalized clipboard and said Ricochet just made “The List,” signing the contract, saying he’ll see him on Sunday. “The List” was a running gimmick of Jericho’s during part of his WWE run.

Jericho’s last match came in a mask vs. title match at last year’s Dynasty when he lost the Ring of Honor World title. He left the Learning Tree on the following Wednesday’s Dynamite and didn’t return until last Wednesday, ending speculation he was heading back to WWE.

Ricochet vs. Leon Slater set for WrestleCon Supershow 2026

A huge interpromotional match is set for this year’s WrestleCon event.

TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater will face AEW star Ricochet on April 16 as part of the WrestleCon Supershow at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas.

“Our 2026 Wrestlecon Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow main event is a Dream Match between TNA’s current X Division Champion @LEONSLATER_ Leon  Slater vs AEW’s Trendsetter @KingRicochet! They specifically requested this match & mountains were moved to make it happen which we truly appreciate!,” WrestleCon wrote.

Earlier on Monday, WrestleCon teased their main event by announcing negotiations had cleared the final hurdle and graphics were being worked on.

“Is everybody ready for a main event Supershow announcement?  It just cleared the final hurdle and we’re working on the graphics!,” they wrote at the time. “Two individuals that have never squared off in the ring and wrestling politics may never allow it to happen again. A lot of exceptions were made to get this match across the finish line and we truly appreciate every party involved that made it a reality.”

On top of working with TNA, Slater has appeared numerous times on NXT, challenging Oba Femi for the NXT Championship earlier this year at New Year’s Evil. He also teamed with Je’Von Evans as part of the undercard for John Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event back in December.

Ricochet has been a prominent part of AEW since leaving WWE, recently becoming the first-ever National Champion.

Report: More on what led to Ricochet taking down controversial post

More on what led Ricochet to take down a controversial social media post.

Fightful Select reported on Sunday that one of AEW’s producers convinced the former National Champion to take down a post telling a fan that he was “glad” she had multiple sclerosis, or MS. The post went up last Monday before he apologized and took it down the following day.

“Those that we spoke to in AEW say that Chris Hero was the person who reached out to Ricochet to give him advice on the disrespectful MS tweet,” Fightful Select wrote.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Ricochet deleting the post wasn’t due to influence by AEW or Warner Bros. Discovery, but something that Ricochet did on his own after talking to a friend.

“And then what ended up happening was, one of his friends called him and said, ‘You know, you really should take the tweet down.’ So he took the tweet down,” Meltzer said. “And upon thinking about it, he then apologized. Nobody forced his apology or anything like that. He decided to apologize and he did.”

Ricochet is set for the ROH x Maple Leaf Pro show that takes place this coming weekend, where he will be facing Rich Swann.
