AEW reveals full list of participants for Continental Classic tournament

The full list of participants for this year’s Continental Classic tournament have been revealed.

AEW gave details of the tournament on a Selection Special stream that aired on Sunday. It will kick off this Wednesday on Dynamite and will conclude at AEW’s next pay-per-view, Worlds End, on December 28 in Orlando. Similar to last year, the twelve wrestlers will be divided into two groups, the Blue League and the Gold League. The winners of both leagues will meet at Worlds End.

This year’s entrants include:

Blue League

  • AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada
  • Kyle Fletcher
  • TNT Champion Daniel Garcia
  • The Beast Mortos
  • Mark Briscoe
  • Shelton Benjamin

Gold League

  • Will Ospreay
  • Juice Robinson
  • Brody King
  • Ricochet
  • AEW Trios Champion Claudio Castagnoli
  • Darby Allin

Each match in the Continental Classic will be held under a 20-minute time limit, with everyone banned from ringside. A win is three points, a draw will earn both wrestlers one point, and a loss is zero points.

Eddie Kingston won the inaugural Continental Classic last year, defeating Bryan Danielson in the finals. His win briefly unified the AEW Continental, ROH World, and New Japan Strong titles.

Claudio Castagnoli revealed as Jon Moxley’s ’emissary’ vs. Shota Umino at Wrestle Dynasty

AEW’s Claudio Castagnoli appeared via video at today’s NJPW World Tag League show at Korakuen Hall.

Following Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma’s win over Bishamon, a video of Castagnoli calling Umino out for Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, 2025, aired. Previously, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley said he was sending an emissary to Japan to deal with Umino.

Castagnoli said:

“Shota, what happened? I thought in Japan you respect your elders, not go around questioning them. See in our book, you were the first Death Rider. Jon took you under his wing. Even though you come out like a rhinestone cowboy all glittery and stuff, you still carried his Death Rider jacket. So, how dare you question him? You forgot all the lessons? Lesson 1: the basics. Lesson 2: Well, how about I teach it to you personally January 5 Wrestle Dynasty. Class will be in session.”

A video of Moxley saying he is “very disappointed” with Umino aired at Fighting Spirit Unleashed earlier this month. He noted that Umino was traveling down a dark path.

“What are you reading? What are you listening to? What has gotten inside your head?” Moxley asked in the video. “We’re going to continue your education. I will send an emissary to the Tokyo Dome to fix this problem you’re having. We will continue molding you into the champion I know you can be.”

Umino, who will challenge Zack Sabre Jr. for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom the night before Wrestle Dynasty, has been associated with Moxley since challenging him for the IWGP United States title at NJPW Dominion 2019. Moxley was impressed with Umino’s efforts in the match and dubbed him “Shooter.” The two teamed up several times after. Then, in May, Umino unsuccessfully challenged Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight title at Resurgence in a match that went just under 35 minutes and was rated four and three-quarter stars by our own Dave Meltzer.

Wrestle Dynasty (Sunday, January 5) —

  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Ricochet
  • Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd
  • Jack Perry vs. Yota Tsuji
  • Tomohiro Ishii challenges either Shingo Takagi or Konosuke Takeshita for the NEVER Openweight Championship (will be a double title match with the AEW International Championship also on the line if Takeshita is still champion going into Wrestle Kingdom 19)
  • International Women’s Cup four-way
  • Shota Umino vs. Claudio Castagnoli

Claudio Castagnoli at peace if he never holds AEW World title

Holding the AEW World Championship is a goal for Claudio Castagnoli, but he’s not going to let that pursuit define him.

Castagnoli previously held the ROH World title twice but was never a World Champion in WWE and has yet to reach that height in AEW. In an interview with The Takedown, Castagnoli explained why he’s at peace with the possibility that he may never become AEW World Champion.

“Everybody should aspire to be the World Heavyweight Champion,” Castagnoli said. “I think I may have realized as I’m getting older, that that single-minded focus can actually be a big detriment to me. Not everybody is the main character. Not everybody can be the hero of the story. So to me, it is how can I make the most impact?”

Blackpool Combat Club (Castagnoli, PAC & Wheeler Yuta) are the current AEW Trios Champions despite the in-storyline tension that exists between Castagnoli and Yuta. Last month, Jon Moxley and Castagnoli betrayed Bryan Danielson without Yuta’s approval.

Moxley is set to challenge Danielson for the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream this Saturday. On Dynamite tonight (October 8), there will be a tag team match pitting Danielson & Yuta against Castagnoli & PAC.

Danielson & Yuta vs. Castagnoli & PAC set for AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday

The Blackpool Combat Club will officially implode on next week’s Title Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite as AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson will team with Wheeler Yuta against Claudio Castagnoli & PAC.

The challenge was made following the main event of Wednesday’s fifth anniversary episode of Dynamite when Jon Moxley, Castagnoli and PAC attacked Danielson following his successful title defense over Kazuchika Okada.

Yuta came out to fend off the three men with a hammer as they eventually backed away. He then took to the microphone to say if Castagnoli and PAC wanted to get to Danielson, they would have to go through him. Danielson then suggested the match take place this Tuesday.

Danielson will defend his title against Moxley in the main event of this month’s WrestleDream in Tacoma, Washington, while Castagnoli, Yuta and PAC are the reigning AEW Trios Champions. After they jumped Danielson at last month’s All Out, Yuta fell out of favor with the group when he didn’t want to do the same.

It’s the first match announced for the live Tuesday show in Spokane, Washington.

Wrestling Observer Live: AEW All Out fallout

I am back with another Wrestling Observer Live where the main focus is Saturday’s AEW All Out from Chicago.

I discuss the event in full including all the angles that came out of the show and the amped-up emphasis on violence.

Probably the most noteworthy news was Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli of the Blackpool Combat Club aggressively breaking away from Bryan Danielson in a shocking turn after Danielson defended his AEW World title. Maybe they should bring in another member for this new group? Let’s talk about it.

Of course, I have to talk about that main event in which Hangman Page defeated Swerve Strickland in what might have been one of the most violent matches we have ever seen.

Plus, the latest on the pending AEW/WBD TV rights renewal deal and the pending timeline for an official announcement.

Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli turn on Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out

The Blackpool Combat Club has been splintered.

After Bryan Danielson retained the AEW World title at Saturday’s All Out, Killswitch attacked Danielson, allowing Christian Cage to come out and attempt to cash in his Casino Gauntlet title match. Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC came in to block The Patriarchy from entering the ring. Once they backed off, the Blackpool Combat Club celebrated with Danielson as he and Moxley embraced. However, Castagnoli suddenly laid out Danielson with a European uppercut. As Danielson attempted to gain his composure, Moxley went in for the attack, using a plastic bag to suffocate Danielson. PAC held back Wheeler Yuta as Marina Shafir came in and took down the referee.

Castagnoli and Moxley continued their attack on Danielson until they finally let go. They, along with Shafir and PAC, left together as Yuta and medical officials checked on Danielson, who was stretchered out of the building.

After the angle took place, AEW on X said they would not show the footage of the attack.

Following an absence, Moxley made his return to AEW following All In, cryptically telling Tony Schiavone that this wasn’t his company anymore while specifically calling out Darby Allin. Later in the show, it was shown that Shafir had aligned herself with Moxley, taking out various people backstage.

New Trios champions crowned at AEW All In

In one of many memorable moments from AEW’s return to Wembley Stadium, hometown favorite PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta became the new AEW Trios Champions at All In in London.

The makeshift threesome defeated reigning champions The Patriarchy, the House of Black and the Bang Bang Gang in a four-way London ladder match to take the titles.

The end came when Christian Cage was moving up the ladder on the shoulders of Killswitch and was about to grab the belt when PAC ran up the ladder to engage Cage in a exchange of fists. Cage eventually got shoved off the ladder which left PAC alone to grab one of the belts to win the match.

The 38-year-old PAC is from England’s Newcastle upon Tyne.

It’s PAC’s second run with the gold as he, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix won the titles in September 2022, holding them for 126 days before losing them to The Elite (Young Bucks & Kenny Omega) in the final match in a best-of-seven series in January 2023.

It’s the first AEW title of any kind for either Castagnoli or Yuta who have both held Ring of Honor titles before.

The win ends the short run for Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne which began just over a month ago on Collision. Sunday was the first defense of their titles.

PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta advance to AEW All In London Ladder match

The final team for the upcoming London Ladder match has been decided.

The Wild Card in Cardiff match on Saturday’s Collision saw the team of PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta defeat Top Flight and Lio Rush. They will now advance to All In, where they will compete in a four-way London Ladder match for the AEW Trios titles.

After PAC, Castagnoli, and Yuta won, one third of the Trios Champions Christian Cage came out and declared he was the godfather of the ladder match. This all served as a distraction as the other two thirds of The Patriarchy, Killswitch and Nick Wayne, attacked their future opponents with steel chairs. The Bang Bang Gang and The House of Black both came out and started to brawl with the other two teams as the show went off the air.

The All In card for Sunday, August 25:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Bryan Danielson
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May
  • AEW American Champion MJF defends against Will Ospreay
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Darby Allin in a coffin match
  • AEW Trios Champions The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Killswitch, and Nick Wayne) defend against The Bang Bang Gang, The House of Black, and PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta in a London ladder match
  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defend against The Acclaimed and FTR
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Britt Baker
  • Casino gauntlet match for future AEW World title shot (Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Hangman Page, Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe, Evil Uno confirmed entrants)
  • FTW Champion Chris Jericho defends against Hook
  • Zero Hour: Willow Nightingale & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway, winners get to pick stipulation to Nightingale/Statlander CMLL Women’s title match for All Out

AEW Collision live results: All In go-home show

The final show before All In has arrived with Saturday’s Collision from Cardiff, Wales.

The taped show will feature a Wild Card in Cardiff match to determine the final spot in the London Ladders match for the AEW Trios titles at All In. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) and PAC will face Top Flight & Lio Rush to determine who makes it to Wembley Stadium.

Other matches will see The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly) take on The Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Matt Taven & Mike Bennett). Hook will face Big Bill, Willow Nightingale will square off against Harley Cameron, Jeff Jarrett will compete against Ariya Daivari, and Katsuyori Shibata will take on Jay Lethal.

Kris Statlander and Stokley Hathaway will also be in action ahead of their mixed tag match against Nightingale and Tomohiro Ishii on All In’s Zero Hour pre-show.

Additionally, TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz will narrate the story of Toni Storm and Mariah May ahead of their All In title match.

**********

AEW Collision comes to us this week live – to tape – from Cardiff, Wales, just one day before All In Wembley. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call as the Conglomeration made their entrance for the opening match.

The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy) defeated The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett & Roderick Strong)

While I don’t need any more of the Conglomeration/Kingdom pairing, this was a fun opener. The cut to a stoic, unmoving Ishii on commentary did make me laugh very hard.

Conglomeration member Tomohiro Ishii joined the booth, and he was a real chatterbox. Briscoe and Bennett started the match with chops. O’Reilly tagged in and brought the fight to all three of the Kingdom, including a train of leg whips to Bennett and Taven. Cassidy tagged in and continued the offense, taking Bennett and Strong down with tornado DDTs. Bennett and Taven caught Cassidy with a spike piledriver, but some confusion on the legal man allowed Cassidy’s partners to break up the cover.

Cassidy fought his way to the corner and tagged in Briscoe, who ran wild until Strong cut off a dive attempt. We got a dive train, ending with Strong dropping Briscoe on a chair as he went for his chair-assisted tope. The Kingdom was working on Briscoe in their corner after a commercial break. Briscoe fought to the corner and got a tag into O’Reilly, who ran wild. The Conglomeration hit a set of dives for a nearfall.

Bennett caught O’Reilly with a DVD, with Taven following with Just The Tip for a nearfall. Strong beat on O’Reilly for multiple nearfalls, but O’Reilly countered a Tiger Bomb into a guillotine. O’Reilly transitioned to an ankle lock, but the hold got broken up. We got a move train ending with Briscoe hitting his chair dive. O’Reilly caught Taven in a guillotine choke and scored the win.

We got a video package recapping the recent history of the Trios Titles, going over Death Triangle’s challenge of the Bang Bang Gang at Double or Nothing, The House of Black earning a Trios Title shot, and The Patriarchy cheating their way to the titles.

Willow Nightingale defeated Harley Cameron

Ishii is still sitting at the commentary desk, where Nightingale gave him a big hug during her entrance. Nightingale handled Cameron until she tried for the Babe With The Powerbomb, when Cameron fought out and hit a Side Russian Leg Sweep for a nearfall. Cameron hit Sole Food and a Shining Wizard for a nearfall.

Nightingale got a glimpse of Ishii on commentary and fired up, dropping Cameron with a forearm and hitting the Babe With The Powerbomb for the win. Ishii came into the ring and raised Nightingale’s hand in victory.

Private Party was backstage with Lexy Nair, where she announced that they were the official emcees for All In. They were excited, then got a call from their assistant and left. Nair welcomed the ROH World Tag Team Champions Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes. There was an open challenge laid out for a ten-man tag match at Wembley, with Guevara and Rhodes teaming with the Von Erichs and Katsuyori Shibata. Shibata entered the frame and, through text-to-speech, said that he would lasso them a win at Wembley.

(I don’t need hosts for wrestling shows. I am excited about a little pre-show action with the ROH crew.)

Katsuyori Shibata (w/Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) defeated Jay Lethal (w/Satnam Singh & Sonjay Dutt)

A professional encounter, if not a very heated one.

Lethal focused on Shibata’s leg, setting up a Figure Four, but Shibata kicked his way free. Shibata hit a pair of bicep stomps before kicking Lethal to the outside. After a commercial, Lethal caught Shibata with a Dragon Screw before locking on the Figure Four. Shibata got to the ropes and cut off a Lethal Injection attempt, but Lethal caught him with the Lethal Combination.

Lethal went for Hail To The King, but Shibata caught him in an armbar. Shibata sent Lethal to the corner and hit his hesitation dropkick. Lethal went for kicks to the knee before Shibata dropped him with an STO. Shibata hit the Rainmaker-style slap, locked on the Von Erich Claw, and then transitioned into an armbar for the submission win. Shibata offered a handshake after the match, and Lethal accepted.

We got a video package of MJF & Will Ospreay’s face-off from Dynamite.

Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway trained for their Wembley match at Create A Pro Wrestling Academy. Statlander said that she had been overlooked for too long and that it was their time now.

Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway defeated Kid Lykos II & Nina Samuels

Hathaway shook hands before Statlander clotheslined both of them. Hathaway tagged in and hit Lykos with a main-event spinebuster. Statlander tagged in and hit Lykos with an F-5 and a Babe With The Powerbomb. Statlander tagged Hathaway in and dumped him onto Lykos, with Hathaway getting the pin.

After the match, Hathaway said that this match was a preview of what would come at Wembley against Willow Nightingale & Tomohiro Ishii. Hathaway said that when they were done, Nightingale & Ishii’s careers would be like the food in England: absolutely rubbish. McGuinness made sure to note that they were in Wales.

We got a video package recapping the history between Toni Storm and Mariah May, narrated by Ben Mankiewicz of Turner Classic Movies.

Hook defeated Big Bill (w/Bryan Keith)

A wild atmosphere, as this rowdy crowd suddenly decided that Big Bill was the top babyface in the territory.

FTW Champion Chris Jericho joined commentary as Hook charged Bill to start. Bill dumped Hook with a fallaway slam. The crowd started cheering for Bill as he clubbered on Hook. After the commercial, we came back to the crowd giving Bill a standing ovation. Jericho said that the crowd was cheering Bill to spite him after he told the crowd to shut up. A decent attempt from Jericho to contextualize this.

Bill mocked Hook then told the crowd to shut up as they continued cheering him. Hook dodged a couple of charges from Bill, then hit a big suplex. Bryan Keith charged Hook, but Hook dumped him with a T-Bone suplex. Bill sent Hook into the corner, but Hook caught him with the Redrum and got the submission. Hook stared down Jericho at the desk.

We got a video package of Jack Perry with his TNT Title. He said that no one was worthy of holding his TNT Title, as no one had made the sacrifices that he had made. Perry told Darby Allin that the only way he would close the coffin on him was if he was dead.

We got a recap of the face-off between Swerve Strickland & Bryan Danielson from Dynamite.

Jeff Jarrett (w/Karen Jarrett) defeated Ariya Daivari

If Jeff Jarrett was this over at any point in the last 20 years, TNA would still be on Spike TV. This Wales crowd was fired up for some Double J.

Daivari came to the ring getting some cheap heat, noting that Wales doesn’t have a Premier League team. After both men hit the corners for cheers, with only Jarrett getting them, Daivari jumped Jarrett and mocked the Fargo Strut. Daivari mocked him again before Jarrett socked him in the face and sent him into the turnbuckles. The crowd chanted for Jarrett as we went to a commercial break.

Jarrett pinballed Daivari around the outside as we came back from the break. Daivari caught Jarrett with a baseball slide as he came back into the ring. Jarrett almost caught Daivari with a sleeper hold, but Daivari reversed into one of his own. Jarrett fought out and fired up, getting a nearfall with a Russian Leg Sweep. Jarrett hit an enzuigiri and the squisher before hitting the Fargo Strut. Jarrett ducked a high cross attempt and hit the Stroke for the win.

We got a Hologram highlight reel.

We got a rundown of the All In card, with a ten-man tag match added to the Zero Hour. It will be Dustin Rhodes, Sammy Guevara, Katsuyori Shibata, & The Von Erichs vs. The Cage of Agony, Mike Bennett, & Matt Taven.

Winning Team Enters London Ladder Match at All In – Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & PAC defeated Lio Rush & Top Flight (Dante Martin & Darius Martin)

An odd way to get PAC his “Wembley Moment,” but he got there. Credit to Claudio Castagnoli, wrestling 20 minutes on Dynamite, working this match on the same taping, then flying to Mexico to wrestle in the CMLL Grand Prix before flying back to Europe to work All In. A fine main event, but the crowd did feel tired by this point.

Yuta and Darius started, with Dante tagging in and double-teaming Yuta with his brother. PAC tagged in to a hero’s response, matching speed with Dante until he got caught with a headscissors and a dropkick. Castagnoli and Rush tagged in, with Rush trying to catch Castagnoli in the Giant Swing and catching an uppercut for his troubles. Top Flight helped Rush triple-team Castagnoli as we went to a commercial.

Yuta dropped a knee on Darius as we came back from the break. Darius came back with a DDT/Death Drop combination on PAC & Yuta and fought through Castagnoli to get the tag to his brother. Dante ran wild, with Rush assisting with a moonsault off of the apron to Yuta. Rush tagged in and hit a pair of topes to PAC that almost destroyed the announce table. PAC and Rush traded strikes until Rush hit a Falcon Arrow for a nearfall.

We got a move train ending with Dante hitting a dive to Castagnoli. Rush hit a stunner to PAC, but PAC came back with a snap German suplex, but the Martins cut him off. Darius hit a second rope Stunner, with Rush and Dante following with frog splashes for nearfalls. Another dive train ended with Castagnoli drilling Rush with an uppercut. Castagnoli snatched Rush into the Giant Swing before Yuta hit the low dropkick to cut him down. PAC hit the Black Arrow to score the win and punch his ticket to Wembley Stadium.

Christian Cage & Mother Wayne made their entrance. Cage heeled on the crowd before calling himself the godfather of ladder matches. He told them to have eyes in the back of their heads, leading to Killswitch and Nick Wayne hitting them all with chairs. Christian went for the Con-Chair-To on PAC before the Bang Bang Gang came out and pulled tabled from under the ring. The House of Black arrived with a ladder on the stage. All the teams brawled as the show went off the air. I’ll note that my TNT feed went silent after the Bang Bang Gang came out, but I think that was just on my end.

Claudio Castagnoli wins CMLL International Grand Prix

Claudio Castagnoli has won CMLL’s International Grand Prix.

The AEW star emerged victorious in CMLL’s annual elimination match that took place Friday night in Arena Mexico. After Castagnoli defeated Volador Jr. for the win, he accepted the Grand Prix trophy given to him by the Swiss embassy of Mexico and posed for a photo with the rest of Team World.

CMLL’s International Grand Prix is an annual 20-man elimination match that pits the company’s stars against a team consisting of international talent. This year’s participants had Team Mexico comprising of Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Volador Jr., Titan, Valiente, Templario, Mascara Dorada, Euphoria, Esfinge, and Atlantis Jr. going against Team World’s Castagnoli (Switzerland), Yota Tsuji ( NJPW/Japan), Rocky Romero (NJPW/USA), Robbie X (RevPro, United Kingdom) Mansoor (AEW/Saudi Arabia), Kyle Fletcher (AEW/Australia), Flip Gordon (USA), Ikuro Kwan (MLW/South Korea), Davey Boy Smith Jr. (MLW/Canada)  and Akira (MLW/United States)

Castagnoli has had a rough week of travel. He wrestled in Wales on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, reaching a time limit draw against Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Continental title. After wrestling in Mexico on Friday, he will now head back to the United Kingdom for AEW’s All In on Sunday in London.

Claudio Castagnoli challenges Kazuchika Okada for 8/21 AEW Dynamite in Cardiff

After earning a title shot at reigning AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada on last Saturday’s Collision, Claudio Castagnoli has called his shot for the match: the first-ever Dynamite in Cardiff, Wales.

Castagnoli issued the challenge during this Saturday’s Collision in a backstage segment, saying he wanted to win the title before this year’s Continental Classic and had the perfect place: the first-ever Dynamite in Europe on Wednesday, August 21st.

Okada will get the chance to respond on this Wednesday’s Dynamite when he and Castagnoli come face-to-face. When they do square off, it will be their first-ever singles match.

Castagnoli bested Tomohiro Ishii and Ring of Honor Pure Champion Lee Moriarty in a three-way to earn the opportunity. While he has held the ROH World title in the Tony Khan era, AEW gold has eluded him during his multi-year run in the company.

For Okada, it will be just the third defense of the title he won back in March from Eddie Kingston and his first since mid-May.

Swerve Strickland vs. Wheeler Yuta, Britt Baker in-person return set for next AEW Dynamite

After Bryan Danielson was successful in defeating Jeff Jarrett in the main event of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Swerve Strickland said he wanted his own tune-up for next Wednesday ahead of their title vs. career clash at All In.

After Danielson’s win, the AEW World Champion came out unannounced to give the impending challenger his props and then offer up a challenge to Danielson’s Blackpool Combat Club teammate Wheeler Yuta who was standing next to him.

Strickland said he wants Danielson at ringside as well so he can see why he is the most dangerous man in AEW.

After making her on-screen return on Wednesday following a suspension, Britt Baker promised Mercedes Mone she will be in Norfolk, Virginia, and has seven days to figure out how she will get her hands on her.

The other announcement was that AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and no. 1 contender Claudio Castagnoli will come face-to-face. Castagnoli won a three-way on Collision to earn a shot at Okada with the date yet to be announced.

Here’s the current lineup for Norfolk:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland vs. Wheeler Yuta in a non-title match
  • Britt Baker appearance
  • Claudio Castagnoli and Kazuchika Okada face-to-face

Claudio Castagnoli earns title shot against AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada

Image: AEW

The next challenger for Kazuchika Okada’s AEW Continental title is set after Claudio Castagnoli won a three-way on Saturday’s Collision in a title eliminator.

Castagnoli defeated both Tomohiro Ishii and ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty in a three-way to earn the right to challenge Okada. Castagnoli got the pin after pulling Ishii out of the ring following a sliding clothesline to Moriarty followed by him then landing a sliding forearm strike on Moriarty for the win.

The date and location for the title match has yet to be announced with this month’s All In at London’s Wembley Stadium potentially a candidate.

The victory helped turn Castagnoli’s recent fortunes around as he was eliminated in the first round of this year’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, was unsuccessful in a four-way International title eliminator bout, and was unable to unseat AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland this past April.

While Castagnoli has held the Ring of Honor World title, AEW gold has eluded him during his multi-year run in the company.

For Okada, it will be just the third defense of the title he won back in March from Eddie Kingston and his first since mid-May.

Three-way Continental title eliminator part of AEW Collision lineup

The next challenger for AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada will be determined in a three-way on Saturday’s AEW Collision that starts at a special time of 5 PM Eastern.

In a clash of styles, Claudio Castagnoli will take on Tomohiro Ishii and new ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty with the winner to take on Okada at a date to be announced, possibly at this month’s All In from London’s Wembley Stadium.

Here’s a look at the rest of the card:

CMLL star Mistico and budding AEW lucha star Hologram will team up against Ari Daivari & Tony Nese of the Premier Athletes. It’s Mistico’s first AEW appearance since June’s Forbidden Door while it will be the third straight week of Collision action for Hologram.

Ahead of his challenge of MJF on this Wednesday’s Dynamite, former ROH men’s TV Champion Kyle Fletcher will go one-on-one with Brian Cage.

As she prepares to defend her title against Mariah May at All In, AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm will be in non-title action against an opponent to be named.

Thunder Rosa will look to get some momentum following her recent losses to Deonna Purrazzo as she battles Taya Valkyrie.

The show will also feature appearances by both the AEW Trios Champions The Patriarchy and ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Von Erichs & Dustin Rhodes.

The new additions join the previously announced eight-man tag team match between FTR, Darby Allin & Mark Briscoe vs. The Beast Mortos & The Undisputed Kingdom.

Here’s the full lineup, taped Thursday in Arlington, Texas:

  • Mistico & Hologram vs. Premier Athletes (Tony Nese & Ari Daivari)
  • Kyle Fletcher vs. Brian Cage
  • AEW Continental title eliminator: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Tomohiro Ishii vs. Lee Moriarty
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm vs. TBA
  • Thunder Rosa vs. Taya Valkyrie
  • FTR, Darby Allin & Mark Briscoe vs. Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) & The Beast Mortos
  • The Patriarchy promo
  • Dustin Rhodes & Von Erichs promo
