Continental title now up for grabs in Jon Moxley vs. Will Ospreay AEW Dynasty match

The stakes have been raised for the Jon Moxley vs. Will Ospreay grudge match at this month’s AEW Dynasty as Moxley’s Continental title will now be on the line.

The development came about during Thursday’s Collision after Moxley successfully defeated Anthony Bowens in an eliminator match. Ospreay ran out after the match and laid out Moxley with the Hidden Blade before he was pulled out by the Death Riders.

Ospreay grabbed the title belt left behind and told Moxley he wanted their Dynasty match to have everyone banned from ringside which is a Continental title match rule. Its addition to the bout was later confirmed on the show.

Ospreay, who returned last month from serious neck surgery, was taken out in storyline by Moxley and the Death Riders at last August’s Forbidden Door. Ospreay made his surprise return at March’s Revolution to confront Moxley and defeated PAC on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

The two have only squared off once in a straight up singles match, that coming at April 2022’s NJPW Windy City Riot where Moxley picked up the victory. They shared the ring in two NJPW multi-man matches afterward but their AEW encounters have always been in tag team bouts.

No time limit Continental title defense made for AEW Revolution

AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will defend his title against Konosuke Takeshita at next month’s Revolution pay-per-view, but with no time limit.

During Wednesday’s Dynamite, Moxley called for a rematch with the twist which was later agreed to off-screen.

Moxley and Takeshita went to a time limit draw at this past Saturday’s Grand Slam Australia in their fifth-ever meeting and a rematch from last December’s Continental Classic tournament where Takeshita pinned Moxley for the first time.

It was Moxley’s first title defense since winning last year’s Classic. Takeshita is looking for his first AEW singles title since his 148-day International title run ended in March 2025.

Continental & Women’s Tag Team title defenses added to AEW Grand Slam Australia

Image: AEW

AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will defend against former IWGP World Champion and former AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita at this month’s Grand Slam Australia — one of two new title matches announced Wednesday.

The Moxley vs. Takeshita match was announced during AEW Dynamite shortly after both men were on opposite ends of a trios match as part of the ongoing feud between the Death Riders and the Don Callis Family.

It will be Moxley’s first defense of the title he won at last December’s Worlds End in the Continental Classic.

This will be their fourth-ever singles meeting dating back to July 2022 when Moxley beat Takeshita in a then-interim World title eliminator match. The two rematched five months later on Rampage with Moxley again winning.

Moxley defeated Takeshita in an then-IWGP World title eliminator at 2024’s Forbidden Door with Takeshita finally defeating Moxley in last year’s Continental Classic in Blue league action.

Another title match added for Sydney will see AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions Babes of Wrath defending against Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford.

The match came about during Wednesday’s Dynamite when Bayne and Ford picked up a rare title eliminator victory, defeating the champions to earn the title shot. It will the third defense for Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron

The two teams have been feuding in various forms since last fall.

AEW Battle of the Belts XII results: Kazuchika Okada vs. Kyle O’Reilly Continental title match

The Continental title is on the line in the twelfth edition of Battle of the Belts.

Kyle O’Reilly will get his shot at Kazuchika Okada for the title immediately following this week’s Collision. At WrestleDream, O’Reilly asked Okada for a title match. After Okada rejected O’Reilly, the two ended up brawling. After O’Reilly won his match on Rampage, he issued the challenge again to Okada, with AEW making it official later in the show.

Another match will see Mariah May take on Anna Jay in a title eliminator match for the AEW Women’s Championship. Jay has been wanting to prove herself after spending the summer in Japan in Stardom and confronted May on Dynamite. The two ended up getting into a pull-apart. Christopher Daniels attempted to break up the altercation but ended up getting a slap from Jay that was meant for May.

A match with the new team of Brian Cage and Lance Archer will also take place. Both are new acquisitions of Don Callis.

Join us for live coverage of Battle of the Belts at 10 pm ET.

Battle of the Belts began with the Blackpool Combat Club beat down of Top Flight that ended Collision. Castagnoli dragged one of the Martins up the ramp, but John Silver drilled Castagnoli with a chair. The Dark Order came out to fight, but the BCC got the upper hand as well.

Moxley took the microphone and told the Dark Order that he would give them a chance to fight for their lives. He offered the Dark Order a Trios Title match right now and ordered the referee to ring the bell. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

AEW World Trios Title Match – Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, PAC & Wheeler Yuta) (c) (w/ Jon Moxley & Marina Shafir) defeated The Dark Order (John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno)

This was a unique and interesting way to hook the Collision viewers on for Battle of the Belts, and to make sure the BCC story is an overarching one across any and all shows. The BCC look dominant and unrepentant in their cause, and the babyface army is beginning to build against them. The story is that the man most equipped to be their leader, Orange Cassidy, isn’t interested in being a leader as he said on Collision.

It was a three-on-one beatdown on Silver to start, as his partners were destroyed on the floor. Yuta hit the rocket launcher on Silver, but Uno broke up the pin. Uno got dragged out of the ring by Castagnoli as the beat down continued on Silver until he caught PAC with a lariat. A taped-up Reynolds tagged in and fought hard, but Castagnoli caught him with a Gorilla Press into a gutbuster. Castagnoli snatched him into a Sharpshooter.

Yuta brought in a chair, and as the referee was distracted, PAC landed a double stomp to the back of the head. Reynolds tapped out, giving the champions their second successful defense in a half hour. The BCC laid out the Dark Order after the match, with Shafir drilling Silver in the arm with the briefcase that contained the AEW World Title. The babyface locker room came out to clear house, with Orange Cassidy looking on before walking away.

AEW Continental Title Match – Kazuchika Okada (c) defeated Kyle O’Reilly

One of Okada’s better title defenses here, as O’Reilly worked hard and got the crowd to buy into his efforts to win the title. I’d recommend checking this one out.

Okada started slowly before O’Reilly came out of a rope break swinging. O’Reilly had an armbar blocked but transitioned into an ankle lock that forced Okada into the ropes. After a commercial break, Okada cut off a rallying O’Reilly with an uppercut to boos. Okada did a lot of crowd work as he worked over O’Reilly before O’Reilly dodged an apron tope and laid Okada out with his kick combination.

O’Reilly landed a hammerlock driver as the crowd did dueling chants. O’Reilly caught Okada with a dragon screw leg whip in the ropes, then hit a diving knee to Okada as he hung in the ropes. O’Reilly hit a diving knee to Okada’s thigh before locking on a kneebar. O’Reilly transitioned into a Figure Four style hold before Okada clawed at O’Reilly’s eyes to escape. Okada didn’t have the strength in the leg to pull O’Reilly up for a Tombstone, allowing O’Reilly to lay in kicks to the leg.

Okada caught O’Reilly on a corner charge, hitting a neckbreaker over the knee as we went to another commercial. Okada hit a shotgun dropkick to O’Reilly as we came back. As the 15-minute call came from the ring announcer, O’Reilly countered a Tombstone with a guillotine choke and a knee to the sternum. O’Reilly countered another Tombstone attempt with an ankle lock that forced Okada to the ropes.

Okada teased playing keepaway to run out the clock but caught O’Reilly on a jumping knee attempt and hit a DDT on the floor. Okada hit the elbow drop, but O’Reilly fought out of the Rainmaker. Okada caught O’Reilly with a short-arm lariat and a dropkick, but another Rainmaker attempt got fought off and countered into a guillotine choke. Okada pulled O’Reilly up into a Landslide, then hit the Rainmaker to retain the title.

Anna Jay had a pretaped promo. Mariah May had beaten her twice before, but she still felt that May had a receipt coming from all of her shady actions. She said that the Women’s Title had eluded her for four years, but she would earn her shot tonight in the eliminator match.

Rush & Dralistico were in the back. They said that they would destroy every single faction in this company. The camera panned down to see The Beast Mortos clawing at Hologram.

The Don Callis Family (Brian Cage & Lance Archer) defeated Jack Cartwheel & Jon Cruz

Cage murdered both guys, then tagged Archer in to murder them more. They had two awesome double-team moves, with Archer chokeslamming Cartwheel off of Cage’s shoulders and Archer hitting a Blackout into a Cage powerbomb.

The Undisputed Kingdom was backstage with The Beast Mortos & Lexy Nair. After offering the Beast some meat, they made it clear that they were disappointed with him joining La Faccion Ingobernable.

AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Match – Anna Jay defeated Mariah May

Anna Jay came back from her Stardom tour, she hasn’t lost since coming back, and she beat the champion to set up a nice little TV defense for Mariah May. A solid match, and a nice bit of lower card booking.

Jay worked on May’s arm until May fought her off and hit a John Woo dropkick for a nearfall. Jay sent May into the corner and hit a spin kick but May came back by raining down fists on Jay. This isn’t as hard to follow as the time Orange Cassidy wrestled Isiah Kassidy, but it’s close. May hit the Mariah-Go-Round sidewalk slam for a nearfall.

After a commercial, Jay evaded a corner charge before getting into a strike battle with May. Jay fired up, hitting a Dangerous Jay kick and a John Woo dropkick of her own for a nearfall. Jay took May down with a side suplex for a nearfall. Jay locked on the Queen Slayer choke, but May bit her arm and hit a pair of suplexes for a nearfall.

May hit a hanging DDT for a nearfall. May took Jay off the top rope with a headscissors and hit a running knee, but Jay evaded the Storm Zero and got into a pinning predicament. Jay caught May in a flash pin to score the upset win and a future World Title match. The title match was quickly made official for the November 2nd Collision in Philadelphia.

Field of opponents confirmed for Continental title match at AEW All Out

AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada now knows his three opponents for a four-way title match set for this Saturday’s All Out pay-per-view.

In three qualifying matches that took place during Friday’s edition of Collision, Orange Cassidy, Ring of Honor Champion Mark Briscoe and Konosuke Takeshita (seen above) all qualified by virtue of their victories.

Cassidy upended Bryan Keith, Briscoe defeated Lance Archer, and Takeshita survived a hard-hitting bout with The Beast Mortos to punch their tickets. Of note, Briscoe and Cassidy are teammates within The Conglomeration.

The three men will challenge Okada for the title he won back in March and has defended four times since then. None of them have ever held the Continental title.

All star eight-man tag team match announced for AEW Collision

This Friday’s special edition of AEW Collision will be headlined by an all star eight-man tag team match featuring The Elite, AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson, and others.

The All Out go-home show will air on a different day due to Saturday’s pay-per-view and will go head-to-head with WWE SmackDown.

Made after the events of Wednesday’s Dynamite, AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada & TNT Champion Jack Perry will face Danielson & AEW Trios Champions Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and PAC.

Following the night’s main event that featured Castagnoli and Yuta in non-title trios action, Danielson joined them in the ring to celebrate their win when The Elite jumped them from behind. The babyfaces eventually got the upper hand which was followed by Castagnoli challenging the Bucks for their tag titles at Saturday’s All Out which was later confirmed.

Saturday will see Danielson defend against Perry, PAC vs. Will Ospreay for the International title, and Okada defending his title in a four-way against three challengers to be determined.

**********

Ahead of her challenge of TBS Champion Mercedes Mone at Saturday’s All Out, former AEW Women’s champion Hikaru Shida will take on Deonna Purrazzo.

Shida is coming off a win in a four-way on last Saturday’s Collision that earned her the shot at Mone. Purrazzo was last seen taking a loss to Thunder Rosa in a Texas bullrope match on the August 10th Collision.

The two met in this year’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament with Shida picking up the victory in a quarterfinal.

Three qualifying matches are on tap with the winners moving on to face AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada in the aforementioned four-way at All Out.

The bouts will see former AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Bryan Keith, reigning Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe against Lance Archer, and Konosuke Takeshita against The Beast Mortos.

Collision kicks off a three-hour block of live programming as this week’s Rampage will also be live.

Four-way Continental title match set for AEW All Out

AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada won’t have too long to rest after defending his title on Dynamite as he is now scheduled for a four-way title defense at Saturday’s All Out.

Announced following his successful defense over Kyle Fletcher, Okada will face three contenders who will be decided in three singles matches on this Friday’s go-home edition of Collision:

  • Orange Cassidy vs. Bryan Keith
  • Lance Archer vs. Mark Briscoe
  • Konosuke Takeshita vs. The Beast Mortos

Claudio Castagnoli earns title shot against AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada

Image: AEW

The next challenger for Kazuchika Okada’s AEW Continental title is set after Claudio Castagnoli won a three-way on Saturday’s Collision in a title eliminator.

Castagnoli defeated both Tomohiro Ishii and ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty in a three-way to earn the right to challenge Okada. Castagnoli got the pin after pulling Ishii out of the ring following a sliding clothesline to Moriarty followed by him then landing a sliding forearm strike on Moriarty for the win.

The date and location for the title match has yet to be announced with this month’s All In at London’s Wembley Stadium potentially a candidate.

The victory helped turn Castagnoli’s recent fortunes around as he was eliminated in the first round of this year’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, was unsuccessful in a four-way International title eliminator bout, and was unable to unseat AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland this past April.

While Castagnoli has held the Ring of Honor World title, AEW gold has eluded him during his multi-year run in the company.

For Okada, it will be just the third defense of the title he won back in March from Eddie Kingston and his first since mid-May.

Kazuchika Okada vs. PAC Continental title match added to AEW Dynasty

A match for the Continental Championship is now official for AEW Dynasty.

On Dynamite, Kazuchika Okada accepted PAC’s challenge for a match on April 21 in St. Louis. PAC came out and the two had a staredown. PAC started to head to the ring but was jumped by The Young Bucks. FTR came out for the save but was taken out by Okada with a steel chair. The Young Bucks hit the EVP trigger on FTR while Okada struck PAC with the chair to finish the segment.

Last month, PAC made his return to the company, saving Eddie Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo from an attack by The Young Bucks and Okada. On this past weekend’s Collision, PAC issued the challenge for the Continental title.

The updated lineup for Dynasty:

  • AEW World Champion Samoa Joe defends against Swerve Strickland
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Thunder Rosa
  • TBS Champion Julia Hart defends against Willow Nightingale
  • AEW Tag Team title tournament finals: The Young Bucks vs. FTR
  • AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada defends against PAC
  • Bryan Danielson vs. Will Ospreay
  • Adam Copeland, Eddie Kingston & Mark Briscoe vs. House of Black (Malakai Black, Buddy Matthews & Brody King)

Kazuchika Okada wins Continental title on AEW Dynamite

Kazuchika Okada is the new Continental Champion.

Okada defeated Eddie Kingston on Dynamite to win the title after Kingston missed a backfist, allowing Okada to pin Kingston with a landslide and the rainmaker clothesline. After the match, he celebrated with the title before PAC came out and stared down the new champion.

This marks the end of Kingston’s run with the Continental Championship, where he became the first champion by winning the Continental Crown in a tournament final against Jon Moxley at Worlds End. That tournament unified AEW’s newest title with the New Japan Strong Openweight and the ROH World Championships. With Okada’s win, the Continental Crown is no longer unified.

Okada shocked the world earlier this month by turning on Eddie Kingston and joining a new version of The Elite with The Young Bucks. Nicholas and Matthew Jackson have been amplifying their roles as EVPs, suspending Hangman Page from The Elite and firing Kenny Omega from the group for failing to show up for dates, despite Omega being out of action due to diverticulitis.

Continental title match, Mercedes Mone segment added to next AEW Dynamite

Eddie Kingston and Kazuchika Okada will meet next week on AEW Dynamite.

It was announced on Wednesday’s Dynamite that Kingston will defend his Continental title in Toronto against Okada and it will be held under Continental rules which means no interference. The other two titles as part of the modern Triple Crown are not on the line.

This week’s show saw Okada pin Kingston in a trios match. Following the bout, Okada grabbed the Continental title and posed with it before dropping it back to Kingston who was still recovering from the match.

Next Wednesday will also feature another appearance from AEW’s newest star Mercedes Mone. The end of Dynamite saw Mone make the save for Willow Nightingale after she was attacked by Julia Hart and Skye Blue.

Hook will square off against Chris Jericho. After the two were successful in a tag team match over The Gates of Agony, Jericho told Hook that he wanted to know more about him, and needed to know what it would be like to stand across from him in the ring. The two agreed to a match.

A tag team match will also take place, with Deonna Purrazzo and a partner of her choosing squaring off against Toni Storm and Mariah May.

Here is the lineup for next week’s AEW Dynamite:

  • I Quit match for the TNT Championship: Christian Cage defends against Adam Copeland
  • Continental Championship: Eddie Kingston defends against Kazuchika Okada
  • We’ll hear from Mercedes Mone
  • Deonna Purrazzo & a mystery partner vs. Toni Storm & Mariah May
  • Chris Jericho vs. Hook
