Mercedes Mone: Wrestling at Wembley Stadium was ‘such a dream come true’

Mercedes Mone got to accomplish one of her pro wrestling dreams at AEW All In 2024.

One year after appearing in the Wembley Stadium crowd at All In 2023, Mone was in the ring for this year’s event, retaining her TBS Championship against Britt Baker. Mone told WTOP News in Washington, D.C. that wrestling at Wembley was an amazing experience and “such a dream come true.”

“I’m still on a high from it,” Mone said. “Last year I was just a fan in attendance with a broken heel dreaming about which company I’m going to be in. Now this year performing at All In at Wembley was such a dream come true, it was so amazing, the crowd was electric and I can’t wait to do it all again next year at All In in Dallas, Texas. It’s been such an exciting time for professional wrestling because of AEW — and I enjoy being the face of TBS.”

There was a 31-year break between London’s Wembley Stadium hosting WWF SummerSlam 1992 and AEW All In 2023. Though All In will be in Texas next year, AEW is bringing the pay-per-view back to Wembley in 2026.

Mone said she had a “really good time” in her match against Baker but did sense some audience fatigue from the live crowd.

In addition to holding the TBS Championship, Mone is the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. She’s defending the latter belt against Stardom’s Momo Watanabe at NJPW Capital Collision tonight (August 30).

Mercedes Mone ‘did sense some audience fatigue’ during Britt Baker match at AEW All In

Mercedes Mone has opened up about her AEW All Ij match with Britt Baker, noting that she “did sense some audience fatigue” during the encounter.

Writing in the latest issue of her Mone Mag digital magazine, Mone noted the challenges of working for an audience reaction in a stadium, plus the length of the show perhaps causing some crowd fatigue.

Mone wrote:

I’ve performed in stadium shows before, so I was expecting to hear mixed things from the crowd. In a stadium ring, it takes a while to hear crowd reactions. You have to wait for the sound to rise all the way up and then come back down. You have to take this into consideration to mentally prepare and adjust but it’s definitely a factor.

Mone continued, noting the balance between a tired crowd and giving fans their money’s worth:

“I’ve heard a lot of mixed reactions to my All In match with Britt. I had a really good time out there with her. I did sense some audience fatigue. It’s only natural being third to last, as the crowd had already seen over 10 matches before ours. They arrived at 5:30, and by the time we came out, it was around 9:00. That’s a long time but, at the same time, amazing because AEW really gave them their money’s worth. I could hear some DMD and CEO chants but again it’s harder in a stadium. Britt told me later, that on video you can hear crowd reactions much better and that there were more crowd reactions than we felt.”

Mone also discussed her All In entrance attire, noting that she spent $10,000 of her own money on her gear, the most in her career:

“My robe, which was so beautiful, grand, and regal, was also my most expensive in my 14 years of wrestling. The whole outfit, in total, cost me over $10,000, All In (no pun intended).”

“As far as wrestlers investing so much money into their attire, it really depends on where they’re at in their career. If you’re not there salary wise, you try to find cheaper ways to look your best and it’s for sure possible. I did. When it comes to the biggest events, you invest all that you can. These stages are huge and these moments last forever so you want to put your best foot forward. It doesn’t always come down to money. It comes down to investing the time, being creative and resourceful. Doing so elevates standards and elevates your character. I feel it’s all worth it, and in the end, it does pay off. I hope to teach this sentiment to some of the younger girls on our roster.”

Tony Khan touts AEW All In 2024 attendance, PPV buys

Tony Khan is touting the success of AEW All In 2024.

On social media today, Khan said he believes Sunday’s pay-per-view was the best event in AEW history. He also posted that All In was a success financially, drawing more than 50,000 fans to Wembley Stadium and doing one of AEW’s top two PPV buy numbers over the last year.

“Great news With over 50k tickets sold @wembleystadium for #AEWAllInLondon, I think our best show ever, it was also one of our top 2 PPV buys in the past year along with #AEWRevolution, @Sting’s Final Encounter!,” Khan wrote. “What a 2024 AEW! See you for Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TOMORROW!”

This was the second straight year London’s Wembley Stadium has hosted All In. The 2023 event was AEW’s United Kingdom debut and had an announced paid attendance of 81,035.

AEW Revolution is believed to have done around 180,000 PPV buys this March. The number of PPV buys for All In 2023 was 200,000.

Next year, All In will take place from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The event will then return to Wembley Stadium in 2026.

AEW All In review: The Final Countdown

There’s nothing better than a Bryan Danielson main event match.

The end of this year’s All In at Wembley Stadium saw Danielson, ultimate babyface in physical peril against champion Swerve Strickland, beat the odds by submitting Strickland to win the AEW World Championship for the first time. The show ended with Danielson, his wife Brie, and their two children celebrating in the ring as a gigantic fireworks display lit up Wembley Stadium. It was an incredible main event to cap off a very good show. Although there have been better pay-per-views this year overall, it will be very tough to match the performances of Danielson and Strickland on this night.

It wasn’t just the match that made this an excellent main event, even though the wrestling was pretty awesome. This had everything bad faith ‘fans’ of pro wrestling complain about when it comes to grifting off of AEW disdain: the cool video packages, the big entrances, the great wrestling, and the emotional aftermath. This is how you tell stories in pro wrestling.

I’ll be the first to admit that for some of AEW’s main events, not everything is there, even if the wrestling is out of this world. But this main event felt different than the others. It felt like AEW touching upon things that WWE is known for when they are firing off on all cylinders. No, this can’t match Cody’s championship win, which was built over two years. But it did an excellent job of making me invested in the story they are telling.

Bryan Danielson’s future isn’t clear, as he’s intentionally made his future vague. Despite now being AEW World Champion, he is working without a contract, and is still winding down his career as he transitions to a part-time wrestler. We’ll know more where his future lies this coming Wednesday, where he’s scheduled to appear on Dynamite.

Here’s the rest of the main card:

  • Jack Perry beating Darby Allin was more of a backdrop to everything that happened after the match, with Sting coming out to Seek and Destroy and  proceeded to, in fact, seek and destroy The Young Bucks and Jack Perry. The match was fine, particularly made memorable by Allin’s nasty bumps. I would never attempt to fall off the stage with my feet and hands tied together, geez.
  • Mechanically, Britt Baker and Mercedes Mone had a fine match. Problem is, the crowd simply wasn’t into this after watching MJF and Will Ospreay. And the finish, where Mone simply threw Baker into the ropes and pinned her with the Mone Maker, didn’t exactly excite me about watching another match between these two down the road. Nothing they did was wrong per se, but this was more about the placing on the card than anything.
  • As expected, Will Ospreay defeated MJF in an excellent match, finally hitting the Tiger Driver 91 for the win. I wouldn’t say it was as good as their hour-long match from a few weeks ago, which was a match of the year contender. But you can’t ask more from one of the top matches on one of the biggest shows of the year. MJF doesn’t get enough credit for being a top tier wrestler and Will Ospreay is well on his way to winning back-to-back Wrestler of the Year awards.
  • The Casino Battle Royal was probably the best battle royal AEW has put out. Seeing Nigel McGuiness wrestle for the first time in over a decade was damn cool and it was a delight to see him go against the likes of Zack Sabre Jr. and Kyle O’Reilly, showing he can still hang with them. Putting some of AEW’s best talent like Orange Cassidy and Mark Briscoe also helped a lot. The finish was…whatever. I don’t know what is going on with Killswitch and Christian Cage as one week Killswitch is ready to turn and the next minute he’s helping Cage out anyway. This has been going on for nearly a year at this point. Still, the match itself was big win and one of the more fun matches on the show.
  • The Tag Team title match was a perfectly fine three-way. I kinda expected a bit more considering who was in the ring, but everyone looked good. Grizzled Young Veterans ran out after The Bucks retained and pretty much made it clear they were in the running for the titles, so that should be a fun new addition to a division that needs some new people in the mix.
  • Hook and Chris Jericho was a fine weapons match. I did like the build to the big spot where Big Bill flew off the apron and into the barbed wire table. I also liked the finish, with Taz taking out Bryan Keith, which allowed Hook to score the submission win.
  • Toni Storm and Mariah May was pretty good. I thought the right person won as with a Mariah May win, the feud can continue, and this is a feud that still has juice to it. Perhaps a stipulation match on one of AEW’s upcoming big shows. There’s also the Mina Shirakawa situation, as she will probably play a role in the continuing story.
  • The London Ladder match to open the show was very good. Not the best out of the 1400 ladder matches I’ve seen this year, but a good opener to kick off the night. I don’t have anything else to add here other than I am VERY GOOD on not seeing another ladder match for the rest of 2024 or even all of 2025 for that matter. The stipulation has been DONE TO DEATH. And it’s not just AEW, as WWE and NXT have both spammed this match like nobody’s business.

And that is All In 2024. I don’t think this is as strong as other AEW pay-per-views this year as there were other cards that had deeper, better undercards. Regardess, it’s an aboslute thumbs up show with a main event I highly recommended.

Next up for AEW…All Out in two weeks. At least they waited a week this year before another big show.

Bryan Danielson: AEW All In was ‘without a doubt’ favorite moment of my career

With his family making the trip over to London to see him win the AEW World Championship, All In 2024 was “without a doubt” Bryan Danielson’s favorite moment of his career.

“I feel pretty great. People ask me all the time what my favorite moment is in wrestling, and I can never give them one answer because I’ve loved all of it,” Danielson said at the post-show press conference. “But this is the first time she [his daughter Birdie] remembers seeing me wrestle live. This is the first time my son’s ever seen me wrestle live. And without a doubt, that was my favorite moment in my entire career.”

Danielson defeated Swerve Strickland at Wembley Stadium to become the new AEW World Champion. Danielson’s wife Brie Garcia, their daughter Birdie, and son Buddy were all in the front row cheering him on. After the match, they got into the ring and celebrated Danielson’s victory with him.

The match had a title vs. career stipulation where Danielson would have retired if he lost. He now enters the final stretch of his full-time in-ring career as AEW World Champion.

Despite losing at All In, Strickland tweeted that this was also the best moment of his career so far.

https://twitter.com/swerveconfident/status/1828045518020264411

Danielson said at the press conference that Strickland was an incredible World Champion for AEW. He praised Strickland for being a wonderful performer and human being.

Bryan Danielson avoids retirement, wins AEW World title at All In

Bryan Danielson refuses to go gently into that good night.

With his career on the line, Danielson defeated Swerve Strickland in the main event of All In to win the AEW World Championship. It’s the first championship that Danielson has held in his AEW career. Going back to when he was in WWE, this is Danielson’s first title reign since 2019.

It was a submission that got the victory for Danielson in this instant classic, marking the first time Strickland has ever tapped out in AEW. The match had a title vs. career stipulation where Danielson would have retired if he lost. He now enters the final few months of his full-time in-ring career as AEW World Champion.

Danielson celebrated in the ring with his family after the match. His Blackpool Combat Club stablemates Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta were also there for the celebration. During the match, Danielson’s wife Brie Garcia, their daughter Birdie, and son Buddy were all in the front row cheering him on. The match included a spot where Strickland beat down Danielson at ringside while mocking his family.

There was also a distraction by Hangman Page during the match. Helping to cost his arch nemesis Strickland the title, Page appeared at ringside and needed to be held back by security. The distraction led to Danielson hitting a Busaiku Knee strike for a near fall.

Both Danielson and Strickland had special entrances at All In. Tony Khan again licensed “The Final Countdown” by Europe — which was Danielson’s theme music in Ring of Honor — for this show. Rapper Bun B made an appearance as part of Strickland’s entrance.

Danielson joins Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, CM Punk, MJF, Samoa Joe, and Strickland on the list of wrestlers who have held the AEW World title. Strickland had been champion since April.

Mariah May defeats Toni Storm for AEW Women’s World title at All In

In her hometown of London on Sunday, Mariah May was crowned the new AEW Women’s World Champion.

May dethroned her former mentor Toni Storm at AEW All In to win the title. The ending of their match included a moment where Storm refused to hit May with a shoe. May took advantage of the mercy shown by Storm, delivering a pair of knee strikes and a Storm Zero to get the victory.

The Storm-May story has taken inspiration from classic films like “All About Eve” and “Sunset Boulevard.” After being brought into AEW as Storm’s understudy, May betrayed her last month after winning the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Winning the tournament earned May this title shot at All In.

This is the first championship the 26-year-old May has held in AEW. She debuted for the promotion in November 2023.

Storm vs. May included a spot where May slapped her own mother at ringside. May’s mom was sitting in the front row and the commentary team said this was only the second time she’s seen her daughter wrestle live. But when she seemingly disapproved of May taking out Luther, May slapped her mom in the face.

Storm had been AEW Women’s World Champion since last November. It was her third reign with the championship.

New Trios champions crowned at AEW All In

In one of many memorable moments from AEW’s return to Wembley Stadium, hometown favorite PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta became the new AEW Trios Champions at All In in London.

The makeshift threesome defeated reigning champions The Patriarchy, the House of Black and the Bang Bang Gang in a four-way London ladder match to take the titles.

The end came when Christian Cage was moving up the ladder on the shoulders of Killswitch and was about to grab the belt when PAC ran up the ladder to engage Cage in a exchange of fists. Cage eventually got shoved off the ladder which left PAC alone to grab one of the belts to win the match.

The 38-year-old PAC is from England’s Newcastle upon Tyne.

It’s PAC’s second run with the gold as he, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix won the titles in September 2022, holding them for 126 days before losing them to The Elite (Young Bucks & Kenny Omega) in the final match in a best-of-seven series in January 2023.

It’s the first AEW title of any kind for either Castagnoli or Yuta who have both held Ring of Honor titles before.

The win ends the short run for Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne which began just over a month ago on Collision. Sunday was the first defense of their titles.

Roderick Strong declares for AEW All In Casino gauntlet

The Casino gauntlet match at AEW All In has a new entrant.

Roderick Strong declared for the Casino gauntlet match in an appearance at the commentary desk during Friday’s AEW Rampage show, becoming the sixth entrant confirmed for the bout.

Orange Cassidy has the number one spot in the gauntlet match by virtue of winning a three-way bout on a recent Dynamite. Hangman Page, Evil Uno, Mark Briscoe, and Kyle O’Reilly join Cassidy and Strong as the six competitors offically announced for Sunday’s contest.

The Casino gauntlet winner will earn a future AEW World title shot. The match can have up to 21 competitors, but the match will end with the first pinfall or submission.

The All In card for Sunday, August 25:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Bryan Danielson
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May
  • AEW American Champion MJF defends against Will Ospreay
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Darby Allin in a coffin match

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • Sunday’s All In pay-per-view has surpassed 50,000 tickets distributed.
  • In his final promo before All In, Bryan Danielson called himself “the best f*cking wrestler in the world” and said he’s been the best for the past 20 years. Dynamite ended with Danielson leading the crowd in a “Yes!” chant after vowing to defeat Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship.
  • Bleacher Report asked Danielson how he’s feeling physically ahead of All In:
    • My neck is trashed. But other than that, I feel good. One of the things that I’m good at is experiencing pain and it not necessarily affecting me much. It doesn’t really affect my mental space.
    • The only thing that it does kind of affect is my parenting because our son is four and wild. He loves jumping on my back and jumping on my neck, and I’m like, ‘Argh, stop!’ [laughs]
    • It affects my training and that sort of thing. But other than that, I feel good. The odds are, by the end of the year, I’m probably going to have to get neck surgery or whatever it is. But right now, it feels manageable. And when I get out and wrestle, I feel invincible. So that’s not even a concern.
  • Danielson told Bleacher Report that he believes the best matches of his career have taken place in AEW:
    • If you look at the matches, in my mind, I’ve had the best matches of my career in AEW. Whether they’ve been difference-makers or not, that’s a different thing entirely, but from a creative aspect, these last three years have been some of the most fun of my career but also the wrestling matches I’ve enjoyed the most.
  • Complex published a profile piece on Strickland. He opened up about the support he’s received from The New Day:
    • Those guys gave me love every week and they don’t have to. But I’ve always made sure to speak out and say ‘you guys influenced me.’ Kofi Kingston [in particular]. In my own way hopefully I did it justice. Hopefully I did him proud.
  • Will Ospreay told the New York Post that he’s enjoying being a babyface in AEW: “I’ve always been a very happy, chappy person. I do have a little bit of an a–hole side of me, but I’m very much an easy person to get along with. Going into that role I feel like I was the right guy to come in at the right time.”
  • Ospreay reflected on how blessed he is to wrestle at Wembley Stadium for the second straight year: “Being back at Wembley Stadium, it’s always a weird thing to flipping say out loud, not arena, stadium, bro. The fact that I get to do it all over again, I can not tell you how blessed I am.
  • AEW wished Pac a happy 38th birthday.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us to the show, as he throws it to Tony Schiavone, who is in the ring for the TBS Title contract signing, introducing the challenger and champion.

Mercedes Mone & Dr. Britt Baker Contract Signing

Both ladies have agreed to no physicality tonight, as Baker got a loud ovation, while Mone was booed, but did have some CEO chants. Mone did the DMD hand gesture and said Baker was the past, while Mone is the future as she signed the contract. Baker said Mone can say what she wants now, but in talking about the past, Mone hobbled into All In last year to watch the show. Before there was a CEO, there was a DMD. Baker signed the contract as Mone mocked the crowd and promptly got “shut the F up” chants. Mone said this is Baker’s dream match, as Mone inspired Baker, who had to rely on a little degree to fall back on. Mone has been putting women’s wrestling on the map the last ten years, that’s All In.

Baker said she had the guts, heart and balls, as she’s never had a plan B, she had two plan A’s. While Mone was considered one of four, Baker is one of one, the baddest bitch on the block. Mone got one thing right, Baker admired her and wanted to be her, as Mone walked, so girls like Baker could run. Baker is the foundation for the company Mone is sitting in right now. Mone made a difference, but that person is gone, she’s not a smug, arrogant, ass, who is worried more about her legacy than being a role model. Baker doesn’t know where that girl went, but hopes Mone finds her fast because when Baker wins the TBS Title, that’s the girl she wants to say she beat.

Baker stood up and said she’s going to follow the rules and not hit Mone. She said nothing about Kamille, who she cracked with the microphone, stood on the table and took out Mone & Kamille with a cross body. Mone & Kamille bailed, as Baker held up the TBS Title high in the air. I thought this was a good go home segment for this match, as it was much needed for Baker to look strong after what happened last week on Collision.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Learning Tree, asking Chris Jericho his thoughts on his match tonight. Jericho questions Tommy Billington’s right to call himself the Dynamite Kid, when all he can say is he’s blood related to his uncle, the original Dynamite Kid. Jericho said Billington isn’t even good enough to be on Dynamite and hopes HOOK is watching, as he’s going to do to him sevenfold what he does to Billington come Wembley Stadium. Keith stopped and said “big ass, Wembley Stadium!”

Chris Jericho (w/Big Bill & Bryan Keith) defeated Tommy Billington

(I thought this was a really fun opener and I wish it went longer, they worked very well with each other. The crowd was hot throughout, which I think is safe to say will be a running trend all weekend for AEW.)

Billington showed off his agility in the early going with quick arm drags, shoulder tackle and bodyslam before going up top for a missile dropkick. Jericho took a powder, but Billington was out after, but as Jericho was slid back in the ring, he distracted referee Aubrey, allowing Big Bill to post Billngton heading to commercial.

Jericho controlled the entire break, but when things returned, both men collided in a double cross body attempt. Billington was up first and strung together a series of offense, but Jericho responded with a Lionsault for two. Reversal of switches led to a Billington German suplex for two, as Jericho answered sweeping the legs into the Walls of Jericho. Billington got the ropes, as waved to the crowd, but the delay allowed a snap suplex and Tombstone from Billington. Going up top, Billington connected on a dive onto Keith, then side stepped a charging Bill into the barricade. Back up top, Billington leapt, but Jericho hit a Code Breaker in mid-air for the victory.

Jericho took the microphone post-match and called HOOK a stupid bastard who he hopes was watching. Jericho said he’d rip HOOK apart branch by branch. HOOK’s music hit and he power walked to the ring and got right into Jericho’s face, but got blindsided by Big Bill, who hit a massive chokeslam as The Learning Tree stood over HOOK. The HOOK vs. Bill match that was initially announced for tonight will be taking place on Collision.

Timeless Toni Storm defeated Saraya (w/Harley Cameron) to retain the AEW Women’s Title

(Battle of the Outcasts here, as Storm was super over with the crowd and I expect her ovation to be massive come Wembley. She survived the numbers game during the match itself, but post-match was a different story with May getting the last shot ahead of their Women’s Title match Sunday.)

Crowd loudly behind the champion, who fired off early arm drags before posing for the fans. Storm played cat and mouse, faking out Saraya by giving up her leg, but it was all mind games, as Storm got the takedown, as Saraya bailed to the apron. Both ladies screamed at one another before Saraya hung Storm up in the ropes before taking the ref, allowing Cameron to send Storm into the barricade, as Saraya followed with a somersault senton off the apron into commercial.

Storm fought back when things returned, as she wound up for a home run shot, but Saraya lowered her head to dodge, as Storm put on the brakes and hit a DDT. Saraya avoided Storm Zero with the Knight Cap for a near fall. Saraya brought Storm up in the corner for a sunset flip powerbomb into the Good Knight cradle DDT for another two. Taking too long to follow-up, Storm was able to hit a chokebomb, but Cameron jumped on the apron, only for Storm to plant a smooch on her. Saraya ran and collided into Cameron, as Storm old schooled her, gave a kiss of her own before hitting Storm Zero for the win.

As Storm was celebrating her victory, Mariah May appeared from behind, blindsiding Storm with the shoe that bloodied Storm weeks ago. May clutched Storm’s head and kissed her before rolling around in the ring briefly before heading to the back.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with the entire Conglomeration, as Mark Briscoe said the word of the day was proliferated (I think? It’s hard to understand hyped up Mark Briscoe at times), as they are in full force tonight. Kyle O’Reilly tried talking like he’s British, as Willow Nightingale got hyped and walked off with O’Reilly & Briscoe while Tomohiro Ishii & Orange Cassidy just stood there, chill.

Will Ospreay & MJF Face to Face

Massive ovation for Ospreay during his entrance as he really soaked in the chants and cheers before it was cut off by MJF’s music, which Taz described as a “fart in church.” MJF came to the ring in an American Flag suit, as Ospreay told the crowd to give Max a warm welcome, as he was showered with boos. Ospreay brings up the BBC show Gavin and Stacey and compares their story to his and starts making local references saying he wrestled in a local pub once that was dirtier than the wife, which popped commentary. Ospreay said you can call him Barry Scott because “Bang and the dirt is gone!” which was a reference even Excalibur had to Google.

MJF said all he had to do to get under the fans skin was the Kangaroo Kick and said no to the fans chanting “shut the F up.” MJF said he was still injured, but came back early because he was begged by top brass in AEW and Warner Brothers Discovery to clean up Ospreay’s mess, the arrogant prick. Ospreay told MJF to look in the mirror when talking about an arrogant prick. Ospreay was hyped when he heard about AEW, but he & his friends laughed when they saw MJF was the face of the show, as the double clothesline made them giggle. All In last year was about two best friends jerking each other off. Ospreay wasn’t even employed last year, despite Tony Khan having 3,000 people and their nans under contract, and he was begged to go out at Wembley and have a good wrestling match, as Khan couldn’t rely on his World Champion at the time to do so. Ospreay said MJF is entertainment, but they’re meant to cater to the fans and their voices. This isn’t just about restoring the International Championship; it’s about restoring the feeling and Ospreay is the feeling.

MJF doesn’t care about the fans, they’re meaningless and brings up what American’s do best, they win. MJF said he believed that four eyed dork, Tony Khan, when he said things would be safe in Ospreay’s hands. MJF said fans who only know Ospreay are redcoat terrorist, while everyone loves MJF, wrestlers around the world agree, he’s the best wrestler on God’s green Earth. MJF wonders who actually called Ospreay the Best in the World and laughed at the idea that it was the fans, who know nothing. Friedman is the Facts, the longest reigning AEW World Champion of all time and headlined the biggest show of all time, as he’s the Ace, while Ospreay is second place. MJF is from the only place that matters, the United States of America, and while Ospreay has only one move he can use to beat MJF, the Tiger Driver, he’s not man enough to pull the trigger. The fans can feel all they want, as facts don’t care about feelings.

Ospreay said congratulations, the history books can be rewritten, but you can’t rewrite the feeling the wrestling fans feel. Ospreay said if you go around the World and ask who the Best in the World is, they’ll all say Ospreay. It took MJF four years to win the fans over, while it took him four beats of his entrance music. Ospreay said they don’t love MJF, who exploded and yelled that they loved him until Ospreay came along! MJF said Ospreay is a great father, wrestler, but earlier tonight he got to spend some time with Ospreay’s wife and so-called kid. He said so-called since Ospreay’s wife had him with another man and Ospreay stepped in to be the father. MJF said he got a feeling the next kid Ospreay’s wife has won’t be Ospreay’s either.

Ospreay turned to Tony Schiavone and asked if Tony Khan is in his ear and asked what the fine would be if he punched MJF right now. Schiavone said 100,000 pounds and Ospreay said it’s worth it and he leveled MJF. Security jumped in and was wiped out by Ospreay until enough of them grabbed him, allowing MJF to crack him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, busting Ospreay open before hitting a brainbuster and counting three. MJF held up the American Title before looking to try for the Tiger Driver when security and Christopher Daniels put a stop to it.

-Renee Paquette is backstage and said there was an altercation earlier today and Hangman Page was asked to leave the building. Paquette caught Page on his way out and Page said he’s officially entered in the Casino Gauntlet match and will lay out anyone in his way. Evil Uno walked by and Page asked his old buddy if he knows anyone in the match and Uno said he himself just entered. Page waffled Uno with a chair in the back and said nothing will stop him from getting what he wants.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Claudio Castagnoli for the Continental Title went to a Time Limit Draw

(Great back and forth match this was, as they’re saving the finish for another time obviously. Whether it’s at All Out or perhaps in the Continental Classic this year, this rematch will happen down the line, it has to. Despite being into it the whole time, once the crowd were told there was a minute left, there was a huge sense of urgency and they were disappointed with the draw.)

Bell sounded and immediately the crowd started Holy Sh*t chants as each man backed the other to the ropes and did the pump fake into a clean break. Both men traded finisher attempts, but were unsuccessful, leading to a stalemate. The feeling out process continued until Okada got a head of steam into a back elbow, as things went to commercial.

When things returned, both men traded suplex attempts, ending with a Castagnoli deadlift vertical. Uppercuts in bunches, as Castagnoli spun around referee Bryce to hit a home run uppercut before Okada fought out of a Giant Swing, taking a powder instead. This resulted in a full speed uppercut from Castagnoli, as back inside a forearm exchange ensued. Okada responded with his DDT and neckbreaker, but took way too long to follow-up, as Castagnoli clotheslined him to the outside, but tumbled out with him. Okada posted Castagnoli ahead of another picture in picture.

Back from break, Castagnoli hit a gut wrench slam and running double stomp for a near fall. As Castagnoli slowly went up top, Okada hit his signature dropkick, sending Castagnoli to the floor. Okada quickly brought it back to the ring, wanted his top rope elbow, but this time Castagnoli cut him off with uppercuts. Castagnoli wanted a superplex, but Okada hit a headbutt and John Woo dropkick before finally hitting the elbow drop. Rainmaker pose flip off from Okada, who turned his back too long, allowing Castagnoli to hit a 20 revolution Giant Swing. Castagnoli got a running start, but Okada cut him off with a picture-perfect dropkick. Okada went for the Rainmaker, but Castagnoli ducked, hit a springboard uppercut, wanted the Neutralizer, only for Okada to counter into the Air Raid Crash neckbreaker.

Ring announcer said one minute remaining, as each started throwing uppercuts, with the crowd really getting hyped. Castagnoli ducked a Rainmaker and hit a massive pop-up uppercut, but Okada clutched onto the ropes, so Castagnoli hit a double stomp for two. Okada tried to escape again, as the time ran out. The crowd wanted 5 more minutes, as The Young Bucks & Jack Perry walked on stage saying that match was phenomenal. Matthew asked if the crowd wanted 5 more minutes? He said unfortunately that’s not going to happen, as the contract said Okada had to wrestle 20 minutes, not 25 and as EVPs, they’re sticklers for the rules. They told Castagnoli better luck next time and to clear the ring, as if he doesn’t, they’ll have to remove him. Darby Allin & FTR made their entrances and it’s time for the main event of the evening.

Darby Allin & FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) defeated Jack Perry & The Young Bucks (Nicholas & Matthew Jackson)

It was an all-out brawl as Castagnoli fought Okada to the back during all of this. Perry & Harwood officially started things off, with Allin wanting a quick tag, but Perry bailed and Nicholas came in. It didn’t matter, as Allin flew through the ropes for a dive onto Perry as FTR was sent outside and hit with double dives by The Bucks, who only celebrated briefly, as Allin flew off the top with a Coffin Drop. Allin ultimately wound up on the shoulders of Matthew, allowing Nicholas to hit a PK on the apron, as Allin was worked over during break.

Allin was dropped with a buckle bomb/double corner kick to give Perry a near fall when things returned. Allin used his speed to escape the wrong corner and dove for Harwood for the hot tag. Harwood was a house of fire, dispatching of The Bucks and rolling Germans and brainbuster on Perry. FTR wanted Shatter Machine, but Perry avoided, as The Bucks returned, but Wheeler ran wild this time. Gory Special attempt on Perry, but The Bucks hit a Superkick Party to break it up. EVP Trigger ducked by Wheeler, as The Bucks collided knees. The match broke down, as FTR & Allin got triple Sharpshooters/Scorpion Death Lock, as The Elite all got the ropes and tried to bail with their titles, but Wheeler flew to the floor with a dive onto the pile.

Nicholas was crotched in the corner, as Matthew fired off superkicks. Allin hit a Code Red, but Perry was there for a Scorpion Death Drop. Perry went for his charging knee, but Allin ducked and Perry ran into Shatter Machine. Nicholas was hit with a Power-Plex, as Allin hit a Coffin Drop for the victory.

The Elite bailed through the crowd, as The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass walked on stage. Max Caster said it’s nice the Royal Family showed up today, as the court jesters, FTR and his two favorite princesses, The Young Bucks were there. The Acclaimed are the Kings and Caster said he’s the best wrestler alive. The Bucks couldn’t beat The Acclaimed last week and at All In, the belts come home to the Kings. Bowens said they have nothing left to prove, as FTR & The Bucks can’t beat them and they will fight until they are the next AEW Tag Team Champions because Everyone Loves The Acclaimed. Billy Gunn hit the two words for ya go home line.

-Renee Paquette is backstage checking on Will Ospreay, who was being checked on by the doctor and asks his status for Sunday. Bryan Danielson stormed up to Ospreay and intensely told him “Do it!…Do it!” before walking away, seemingly giving Ospreay permission to use the Tiger Driver 91 after it previously hurt Danielson. This was simple but very effective.

The Final Showdown between Bryan Danielson & Swerve Strickland

Nigel McGuinness is in the ring and first welcomed the undefeated over the past year, the franchise player and most dangerous man in AEW, Swerve Strickland to the crowd. Strickland came out with a dancing Prince Nana, getting loud Swerve’s House chants. McGuinness was about to reluctantly introduce the challenger when he stopped and shook Strickland’s hand, bringing up Brittle Bryan, The Neck Break Kid, while Strickland is in the best shape of his life. McGuinness asks how it feels to be an overwhelming favorite? Strickland said he’s the most dangerous man due to the pain he endures and inflicts to be the AEW World Champion. Strickland runs down the list of victims, Hangman Page twice, Jay White, Takeshita, Samoa Joe, Claudio Castagnoli, Christian Cage & Will Ospreay. Strickland will dissect Danielson from head to toe, decisively. While Strickland appreciates a generational talent like Danielson, a Pacific Northwesterner like Strickland is, he still feels disrespected by Danielson, who he hears saying he’s ready to retire and go off into the sunset. Strickland said Danielson isn’t taking this moment from him, he’s taking it from Danielson. Strickland will make sure Danielson won’t ever get back in the ring again. If Danielson does get the itch again, know that Strickland would be there, even if it’s at an indy show in the Northwest or at Arena Mexico under a mask, Strickland will be there to beat him down. Even if Danielson is at his home with his wife, talking about maybe having an itch to get bac in the ring, guess where Strickland will be?

Danielson’s music hit and he sprints out and wipes out Strickland with a Busaiku Knee, with McGuinness & Nana bailing as well. Danielson said maybe a lot of people are confused, as he doesn’t come out here 20 minutes every week to talk about himself. He knows who he is, this is the truth, Strickland & Danielson knows it, Danielson is the Best F’N Wrestler in the World and has been for the last 20 years. Strickland can say he’s going to cripple Danielson in front of his daughter, but at Wembley Stadium, the fans who have paid to see him the last 25 years and in front of his family, his wife, daughter & son, Strickland will have to do more than cripple him, he’ll have to damn near kill him, as Danielson will leave his soul in the ring. Danielson said tonight, there’s been a lot of talking and fighting, but there’s only one question left, can The American F’N Dragon beat Swerve Strickland for the World Championship? Yes chants rang through the arena, as commentary said The Dragon has awoken and ready for All In.

Jim Ross believes he’s scheduled to call Swerve vs. Danielson at AEW All In

It appears that Jim Ross will be providing commentary for the AEW All In main event.

While taking part in a Virtual Gimmick Table session for Highspots yesterday, Ross said he’s getting ready to head to the United Kingdom for All In. The pay-per-view is being held at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, August 25. Ross said he believes he’ll be calling the AEW World Championship match between Swerve Strickland and Bryan Danielson.

“I’m getting ready to go to London for AEW. I think I’m scheduled to call the Bryan Danielson-Swerve match,” Ross said. “And that’s gonna be a barnburner — a slobberknocker, if you will. Both of them are hungry, both of them are great.”

This could be the final match of Danielson’s career. It has a stipulation where, if Danielson does not defeat Strickland, he will retire from in-ring competition. Strickland has been AEW World Champion since April.

The 72-year-old Ross announced this March that he signed a new one-year AEW contract where his role is to contribute on commentary for PPV events. Ross told Highspots that, through all of the health issues he’s battled over the last year, he’s “without question” feeling better at the moment. He underwent surgery for a broken wrist last month after tripping over a charging cord at his condo.

Mercedes Mone vs. Britt Baker official for AEW All In

Mercedes Mone and Britt Baker are officially set to clash at AEW All In.

During AEW’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Tony Khan confirmed that Mone will defend her TBS Championship against Baker at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 25. The two have been feuding since Baker returned at Forbidden Door last month.

Before the match was made official, Mone repeatedly turned down Baker’s challenge for All In. She again said no to the challenge on Dynamite last night. On the episode, former NWA Women’s Champion Kamille arrived in AEW and aligned herself with Mone. Kamille attacked Baker and laid her out with a Torture Rack slam.

An angle then took place during today’s Comic-Con panel where Mone and Kamille — dressed as Batman villains Poison Ivy and Bane — confronted Baker. That led to Khan announcing Mone vs. Baker for the All In pay-per-view.

With Jamie Hayter having been out of action for more than a year now, Baker is at a numbers disadvantage against Mone and Kamille. Khan said last month that the timetable for Hayter’s return is still pending.

Mone has been TBS Champion since dethroning Willow Nightingale this May. She also is the current NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.

Five matches have now been announced for All In:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Bryan Danielson
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May
  • AEW American Champion MJF defends against Will Ospreay
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Darby Allin
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Britt Baker
