TNA star Chris Bey issues statement following neck surgery

Chris Bey appreciates all of the support he’s received as he recovers from a serious neck injury.

TNA Wrestling posted a statement from Bey on Tuesday where he thanked everyone in the promotion, his friends and family, the fans, and the medical staff that has treated him. Bey knows the journey ahead will be “long and challenging” — but he is grateful to have everyone praying for him.

“I just want to take a few moments to extend my heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation for so much and to so many over the past few days. From everyone at TNA Wrestling, to the incredible medical staff here in Detroit, to family, friends and fans worldwide,” Bey said. “I know you have been praying for my full recovery from the in-ring accident this past Sunday. Monday was Day One for me on this journey, which I know will be long and challenging. Thanks again for the love and support, and please keep the prayers coming!”

Bey’s injury happened during a tag team match against The Hardys at TNA’s post-Bound for Glory television taping in Detroit on Sunday. After being stretchered out, he was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.

On Monday, TNA issued a statement saying that Bey was in “good spirits” and would remain in Detroit in the hospital for a few more days.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to financially assist Bey during his recovery.

TNA says Chris Bey is in ‘good spirits’ following neck surgery

TNA has provided medical updates on Chris Bey and Hijo del Vikingo.

On Monday night, TNA posted an update on their website regarding both men who were injured during Impact tapings that took place Sunday in Detroit. TNA wrote that Bey is continuing to recover in his hospital room after undergoing neck surgery.

“Chris Bey is recovering at the hospital following surgery for the neck injury suffered Sunday night and he had an MRI procedure on Monday,” the statement read. “He was resting in his hospital room Monday night, joking, talking about Bound For Glory and in good spirits. Chris will be in Detroit for a few days and family members have joined him, along with TNA Wrestling management and wrestlers who are staying in Detroit. Chris is under professional care and supervision, and the local medical staff has been in contact with his personal doctor.”

TNA also had an update on Vikingo, who is on crutches after suffering a right knee injury. He has been treated for the injury and is now back home in Mexico.

“Vikingo returned to the Detroit hotel Sunday night after being treated at the hospital for a right knee injury,” TNA’s statement said. “He is on crutches and wearing a leg brace. Vikingo flew home to Mexico on Monday, where he will be examined and treated by his specialist.”

According to reports during the taping, Vikingo injured his knee after a corkscrew spot during a match against Trent Seven. Bey later suffered his injury after taking a neckbreaker during a tag team match against The Hardys.

Report: Chris Bey needed surgery after injury at TNA TV taping

An update is available on Chris Bey.

Bey was injured on Sunday at TNA’s TV tapings at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit. The nature of his injury and how it occurred are unclear, but he was put in a neck brace and stretchered out of the venue after ABC’s match against The Hardys.

According to a report from Fightful Select, Bey was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat the injury. He is said to be recovering post-surgery, but details beyond that are not known.

Bey has been with TNA dating back to 2018. He’s a former X-Division Champion and has won the TNA World Tag Team Championships three times with his partner Ace Austin. On Saturday, he and Austin wrestled The System’s Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers and Matt & Jeff Hardy in a Full Metal Mayhem match at TNA Bound for Glory. The Hardys won the match and the TNA tag team titles for a third time.

TNA Impact live results: Jordynne Grace vs. Miyu Yamashita

Jordynne Grace will defend her Knockouts title against Miyu Yamashita on the Under Siege go-home edition of tonight’s TNA Impact.

This will be the Japanese star’s first appearance in TNA since a four-way no. 1 contender’s match at March 2023’s Multiverse United show. Grace will be gunning for her seventh title defense in this first-time-ever match.

In a bout to determine who will get a shot at X-Division Champion Mustafa Ali at tomorrow’s streaming special, rivals and former champions Ace Austin and Trey Miguel will do battle.

Ali will be in non-title action on the show as he faces Austin’s partner Chris Bey.

In a preview of Friday’s Knockouts Tag Team title match, Spitfire’s Dani Luna will take on Alisha Edwards. Luna and Jody Threat will defend against Edwards and Masha Slamovich.

After their continued rivalry, Joe Hendry will issue an in-ring apology to AJ Francis and Rich Swann in musical form.

Our coverage will begin at 8:30 PM Eastern when the show goes live on YouTube for Insiders.

**********

We started with a recap of last week, during which Nic Nemeth faced defeat, felt “broken,” and met with a new ally in Matt Hardy. The System is not impressed, with Eddie Edwards comparing Nemeth to Eric Angle. The staredown between Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace and TJPW ace Miyu Yamashita led to our opening video.

X-Division Mustafa Ali defeated Chris Bey in a non-title match

We were greeted by AJ Francis and Rich Swann boasting on the balcony of The Palms. Francis enjoys the view with his entourage, including Houston rapper Bun B.  Ali gained early control of the in-ring action, with Bey throwing big shots to sway momentum. His opportunity opened up when he nailed a coast-to-coast elbow for a near fall. Ali switched gears from his methodical pace to a much more physical showing. There were heavy hits from both guys, with Ace Austin doing good work at ringside, even causing a distraction leading to a series of dives to the outside from both competitors. One of Ali’s security guards would wave his flag into the back of Bey, allowing Ali to hit his smooth 450 splash, capping off a good match. Bey’s partner, Ace, would be in action later.

Alisha Edwards defeated Dani Luna

Spitfire makes their entrance to the sound of Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen on commentary, which isn’t bad. Alisha is accompanied by her newest ally, Masha Slamovich. Things started hot, and Luna showed off her power early on. Lish would fire back with flashy maneuvers, which Luna provided an excellent base for. Lish soaked in the heat as Lars reminisced on meeting Jody Threat, finding her mid-sip on a forty-ounce outside after she got kicked out of his concert. Luna started her comeback with a rope-assisted Blue Thunder Bomb. Both partners get involved, causing a distraction, as Masha storms the ring and hits a beautiful spinning backkick and Snow Plow, assisting Lish to a nice victory.

– A vignette aired for DMTV which Sami Callihan explained as “Death Machine TV, “where he spits and does Sami Callihan things.” It looked to be the beginning of a new chapter for Callihan, who likes to keep things fresh.

Hammerstone defeated Cody Deaner

Hammerstone roasts Cody Deaner’s new attitude and challenges him to an arm wrestling match. Deaner finds it amusing but counters with a “Sin City Street Fight,” ultimately leaving it up to the people to decide. We chose the latter, and the bell rang with Deaner jumping Hammerstone at the start. Hammerstone dominated early on until Deaner could create separation with a steel chair. Hammerstone regained momentum, chokeslamming Deaner through a table and tapping him with the torture rack. After the match, he looked to add insult to injury, but Deaner’s former cousin, Jake Something, made a delayed save. Security got between them until they were roared off, leading to a staredown and Hammerstone removing himself from the ring. It was nice to see Jake Something presented as more of a threat than ever, and Hammerstone is a natural fit for TNA.

– Santino Marella met with Jonathan Gresham and welcomed him back. He eventually shook his hand, which resulted in Gresham inking on him. Gresham was then met by his possible alter ego, donning the Octopus mask.

– Broken Matt Hardy and Speedball Mountain had some fighting words for The System. This was an amusing clash of personalities.

Joe Hendry’s apology song

Hendry had a mic, guitar, rug, and spotlight, and boy, did he shine. Enhanced by AJ Francis’s disgusted expression, Hendry played his greatest hits to remind us of what led to this beef. This warmed the crowd up, preparing them for his apology song, which was to the tune of Creed. With a chorus begging for the former Top Dolla’s release, the concert closed with a fuming First Class and a hot crowd. Great segment.

– Gia Miller introduced The System on stage, who delivered some generic words threatening Matt Hardy and Speedball Mountain. Doing this as a live interview was an interesting choice.

Ace Austin defeated Trey Miguel to earn an X-Division title shot at Under Siege

A rivalry was renewed here, although Trey’s mom was nowhere to be found. Up for grabs, however, was a shot at Mustafa Ali and his X-Division Championship tomorrow night at Under Siege. The match was slower-paced, with both men selling their knees. Eventually, this and a temper tantrum led to The Fold from Ace Austin for a 1-2-3. This was pretty good and set up Ace for what should be a great match with Ali.

TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace defeated Miyu Yamashita to retain the title

The balcony stayed warm as Ash, by Elegance, was welcomed by her Personal Concierge. The match was a display of power vs. striking, with things being evenly matched throughout. Grace and Yamashita met in the middle, colliding with a back fist and kick simultaneously. Some solid exchanges led to a Skull Kick countered into a Juggernaut Driver, allowing Grace to retain. After the match, Kon and Steph De Lander jumped the Champion, promising to snap her neck, before the lights went out and PCO made the save. PCO and Grace cleared the ring and gained momentum, heading into Under Siege.

Final Thoughts:

Under Siege gained momentum this week despite being a largely skippable card on paper.

The X-Division matches tonight were solid. Ace Austin was put in a singles position for tomorrow night, which he always excels in.

The Knockouts division is a bit strange right now, albeit fresh. Kon filling in for Cardona makes the story a bit less natural, but SDL is doing good work as a strong heel character, and I’m curious to see where it goes. Yamashita is one of the best, and I’d love to see her become more comfortable working in America.

Also, Joe Hendry’s performance tonight was fantastic, and he continues to be one of the most valuable pro wrestlers in the world. Seeing how TNA handles his recently acquired success on the music charts should be interesting.

Overall, tonight was a good show, with a lot of promise for future shows and stories.

Tag Team title match added to TNA Sacrifice

A Tag Team title match is the latest addition to the card for TNA Wrestling’s Sacrifice special.

Sacrifice is taking place from Windsor, Ontario, Canada next Friday (March 8). The show will air live on TNA+ and for subscribers to TNA’s Ultimate Insiders YouTube service.

It was announced today that TNA Tag Team Champions ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) will defend their titles against Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers at Sacrifice. The match was made official after Myers pinned Bey on this week’s Impact.

The main event of Thursday’s Impact episode was The System (Moose, Edwards & Myers) defeating Eric Young, Austin & Bey. Young is challenging Moose for the TNA World Championship at Sacrifice.

Austin & Bey are two-time TNA Tag Team Champions. Their current reign with the titles began at Bound for Glory last October.

Recently, ABC retained their belts against The Grizzled Young Veterans in a best-of-three series. The series ended with ABC winning 2-1 after Austin & Bey defeated The Grizzled Young Veterans at No Surrender.

Edwards & Myers picked up a victory over KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight on the No Surrender pre-show.

Here’s the updated card for Sacrifice:

  • TNA World Champion Moose defends against Eric Young
  • TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace defends against Tasha Steelz and Xia Brookside in a triple threat match
  • TNA Tag Team Champions ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) defend against Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers
  • Nic Nemeth vs. Steve Maclin
  • Josh Alexander vs. Alex Hammerstone
  • Mustafa Ali, John Skyler & Jason Hotch vs. Chris Sabin, KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight

The Big Vinny V Show: Two weeks worth of TNA Impact

It’s a special double episode of the Big Vinny V Show reviewing not one, but two episodes of TNA Impact.

The main event build for Moose vs. Alex Shelley for No Surrender (including some oxymoronic stipulations) continues with plenty of action from The System, KUSHIDA, and Kevin Knight as well.

But the best thing on the show is the ongoing best-of-three feud between ABC and the Grizzled Young Veterans over the TNA Tag Team Titles.

We’re also building to Mustafa Ali’s TNA debut this Friday against Chris Sabin, Jordynne Grace defending the Knockouts title against Gisele Shaw, and a baffling program for the Knockouts tag titles.

Chris Bey vs. Kevin Knight added to TNA Impact lineup

A new match has been added to the lineup for Thursday’s edition of TNA Impact.

Chris Bey vs. Kevin Knight is now advertised for the show.

The match was taped on Sunday, January 14 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas the night after Hard to Kill.

This will be the second singles match between the two in TNA. Bey defeated Knight on June 23, 2023, in a match taped for the promotion’s Main Event Mondays. Ace Austin and Bey defeated KUSHIDA and Kevin Knight on an episode of Impact taped in January 2023 as well.

The January 25, 2024, edition of TNA Impact also includes Nic Nemeth’s in-ring debut, Jordynne Grace defending the Knockouts title against Trinity in a rematch from Hard to Kill, and Kazuchika Okada teaming with the Motor City Machine Guns against Moose, Brian Myers, and Eddie Edwards.

TNA Impact lineup for Thursday, January 25 on AXS TV:

  • Nic Nemeth’s TNA in-ring debut vs. Zachary Wentz
  • Kazuchika Okada & Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. The System (Moose, Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards)
  • TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace defends against Trinity
  • Chris Bey vs. Kevin Knight

TNA reveals new Tag Team Championship belts

Impact Wrestling has revealed the new TNA Tag Team Championship belts.

With the promotion reverting to TNA branding beginning at Hard to Kill, all new title belts are being given to champions leading up to Saturday’s pay-per-view.

Today, Scott D’Amore presented the Bullet Club team of Chris Bey and Ace Austin with the new TNA Tag Team title belts.

D’Amore said:

ABC, Chris Bey, Ace Austin, we’ve literally watched the two of you grow up in Impact Wrestling from young hungry rookies to being the best tag team in the entire world, which is represented by those tag team championship belts. (You’re) the very best but those belts don’t do you justice.

Austin and Bey might not have those belts long, however. They are set to defend them at Hard to Kill in a four-way match against Grizzled Young Veterans, The Rascalz, and Mike Bailey & Trent Seven.

Chris Sabin was presented with a new TNA X-Division Champion belt yesterday

TNA Hard to Kill 2024 lineup:

  • TNA World Champion Alex Shelley defends against Moose
  • Knockouts Champion Trinity defends against Jordynne Grace
  • Three-way match: X-Division Champion Chris Sabin defends against KUSHIDA and El Hijo del Vikingo
  • Four-way match: TNA Tag Team Champions Ace Austin & Chris Bey defend against The Rascalz, The Grizzled Young Veterans, and “Speedball” Mike Bailey & Trent Seven
  • Knockouts Ultimate X match: Gisele Shaw vs. Xia Brookside vs. Jody Threat vs. Tasha Steelz vs. Alisha Edwards vs. Dani Luna
  • Josh Alexander vs. Alex Hammerstone
  • PCO vs. Dirty Dango
  • Pre-show match: Rich Swann vs. Steve Maclin
  • Pre-show match: Eric Young & Frankie Kazarian vs. Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards
  • Pre-show match: Digital Media Champion Tommy Dreamer defends against Crazzy Steve

Steve Maclin, Chris Bey & others ready for TNA Wrestling changeover

In case you missed it, TNA Wrestling is returning this January.

The current Impact Wrestling announced at late-October’s Bound for Glory that they would revert back to its old name starting with January’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view from Las Vegas.

It will be their first event under the TNA banner since 2017.

Along with the name change, company officials confirmed in a press release that there will also be a new look “from the entrance ramp to turnbuckles in the ring to larger, more prestigious venues and much, much more.”

Following the announcement, I talked with several members of the roster about their reaction to next month’s change.

Former Impact Digital Media Champion Brian Myers

“I was hyped, man, especially being there live in Chicago for the announcement. It was a real goosebump moment and I think we all were under the impression that it would just get drowned out with CM Punk chants or something or that the crowd wouldn’t get what was going on, but they were with it and super excited and the excitement hasn’t stopped.

“Everywhere we’ve gone — an entire UK tour, Mexico — the TNA chants haven’t stopped. People stop me when I see them and want to talk about it and they’re thrilled. I love saying that I’m a ‘TNA wrestling star.’ The feedback has been unbelievably 100% positive across the board, so people are just excited. I think it’s just such a great step and a huge, huge step, a big leap for the company, for everything.

“The company has a 20+ year history with some, legendary moments and performers. So to not lean into that, I think would have been foolish, right? People grew up on this product. They are now old and grown-ups and have kids and lives of their own. So, they’re sentimental about it, so it means something to them and it’s really worked.”

Former Impact World Champion Steve Maclin

“It’s awesome and is a question that I always get when people are like, ‘Who do you work for?’ (I tell them) ‘Impact Wrestling.’ (They say) ‘Oh, I don’t know them, but do you remember TNA?’

“So it’s something that’s been kinda talked about where they wanted to go back to it a couple years back, and there was talk about it during Covid times, when I first got there, and you would hear rumblings of the changes and different things coming. It’s just cool to be part of something that’s changing, because I was part of that time in NXT when that boom happened when the indie folks came in and NXT became something bigger. Now I am part of TNA and to take the phrase: ‘We’re f**king back.'”

Knockouts Tag Team Champion Masha Slamovich

“Oh, I was jumping up and down with joy. I mean, I grew up watching the X-Division in TNA with the likes of Amazing Red and Chris Sabin and a bunch of other wrestlers. I’m extremely happy and honored to be a part of TNA Wrestling going forward in the year 2024.”

Impact Tag Team Champion Chris Bey

“I couldn’t believe my ears. The heart and soul of Impact/TNA Wrestling has been always TNA Wrestling. Since I signed with Impact four years ago, people go, ‘Oh, you work for TNA.’

“They still believe that. They still breathe that. When I have done stuff in the Impact Wrestling ring and the crowd goes crazy, they chant ‘TNA, TNA.’ I chant ‘TN Bey,’ but that’s that’s another story. But the crowd goes crazy. They love it. They have always felt that inside.

“I went into my closet once that was announced and I got home off the road and I went back to Las Vegas. I went into my closet and I pulled out my Shop TNA bag that I ordered off of Shop TNA back in 2010 when I did an unboxing on my YouTube channel. Young Chris Bey, 14 years old, 14 years young. I was an itty bitty Bey and I look at that signed Don West bag, RIP Don West, and I think ‘You are working at this place. You are a champion at this place.’

“And I believe firmly that myself and Ace Austin are the very best tag team of this generation. So going back to TNA Wrestling, like I mentioned, the Motor City Machine Guns earlier being the best tag team of TNA Wrestling’s history, we get to start the new era, the new generation of TNA Wrestling.

“We get to be the ones that are the best tag team of TNA Wrestling and we get to inspire the next generation, the next crop. It’s just so sweet and I’m so grateful that I’m the one to be able to represent the company, man.”

Tag Team title defense added to Impact Final Resolution

ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) will look to extend their second run with the Impact Tag Team titles as they defend them at next Saturday’s Final Resolution.

Bey & Austin will face Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards. Myers held the TNA Tag Team titles for a single day with Trevor Lee in 2015 while Edwards has held the TNA tag titles five times (all with Davey Richards) with his last reign ending 2016.

The two were rivals in 2020 and 2021, ending with a Hold Harmless match Edwards win at 2021’s Sacrifice.

A win will give Bey & Austin their second successful defense of the gold they regained at October’s Bound for Glory.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Sheldon Jean has also been announced for the pre-show. Kazarian is coming off a loss to X-Division Champion Chris Sabin in late-October while Jean is still looking for his first win (0-9).

Final Resolution, set for Saturday, December 9th, in Toronto, Canada, will be the final special event under the Impact banner before the company reverts to TNA.

Here’s the current card for the streaming special:

  • Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. Josh Alexander & Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Trinity & Jordynne Grace vs. Deonna Purrazzo & Gisele Shaw
  • Impact Tag Team Champions ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin) defend against Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards
  • “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Trey Miguel
  • Moose vs. Rhino
  • Digital Media Champion Tommy Dreamer defends against Deaner
  • Jake Something vs. Jason Hotch
  • Pre-show: Frankie Kazarian vs. Sheldon Jean
