    • I’m proud because it wasn’t just a match for the most important championship, it was against one of the best in the world, Iyo Sky, someone I’ve admired for many years. So, the fact that I could compete for this title with her proved in the ring why we are both among the best in the world right now.
    • It was very emotional to reach gorilla after the match and have everyone applaud and congratulate me, not just the producers and coaches, but the people I work with every day. • Adam Cole is part of the voice cast for the new video game “Curiosity” from DarkBear Studios that launched on Steam and Steam Deck starting today. Here is how the game is described:

With nine lives to spare (and consequences for losing them all), players must master every jump, uncover mysterious lore, and survive a journey that’s as emotional as it is demanding.
    • Drawing inspiration from titles like Only Up and Getting Over It, Curiosity offers a modern evolution of the genre: combining the viral tension of vertical climbing games with a rich story;  a hand-crafted world, and traditional platforming elements like secrets, collectibles, checkpoints, and even potential skips for the most daring players.

    • Mustafa Ali vs. JDC
    • Bound for Glory contract signing with TNA Knockouts World Champion Kelani Jordan and Indi Hartwell
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Scarlett Bordeaux said she felt WWE was “misogynistic” in how they handled her contract situation by saying that they would get to her new deal once Karrion Kross had sorted his contract out:
    • One of the last questions before the 24-hour notice was given, [Kross] asked where I stood in all these contract negotiations. And they said, ‘We’ll get to her once we’re done with you,’ which I took as them using me as leverage against him. I do feel like if he agreed within the 24 hours that they would have offered me something, would it have been the same amount as it was before? Would it have been less? I don’t know. But all in all, it felt like a massive, massive red flag, and I did feel like it did come off a bit misogynistic, because originally I was hired before [Kross], and the idea that I have no value without him, and it’s only determined by whether or not he signs, that came off as very misogynistic to me.

MLW announces change to Slaughterhouse 2024 match

MLW has announced a change to one of its matches planned for Slaughterhouse 2024.

After announcing yesterday that Donovan Dijak vs. TJP would be taking place at the event, MLW shared an update today revealing that it will now be Dijak vs. Trevor Lee at Slaughterhouse. The show is taking place from The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida on October 4 and will air for free live on MLW’s YouTube channel.

“In a shocking twist ahead of MLW Slaughterhouse on October 4 at the Coliseum, Trevor Lee has stepped up to face the unstoppable force known as Donovan Dijak. Following TJP’s unexpected withdrawal from the match, MLW’s roster was notified of an open contract to fight Dijak,” the promotion wrote. “Wasting no time, a fearless Trevor Lee raced to sign his name, setting the stage for an electrifying debut.”

Dijak and Lee both departed WWE earlier this year. Dijak left the company in June when his contract was not renewed, while Lee (formerly known as Cameron Grimes) was released by WWE back in April.

Lee is making his MLW debut at Slaughterhouse. Dijak arrived in the promotion last month at MLW Summer of the Beasts.

Here’s the updated card for Slaughterhouse:

MLW Slaughterhouse 2024 (Friday, October 4) —

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Satoshi Kojima defends against Ultimo Guerrero
  • MLW Tag Team Champions Minoru Suzuki & Ikuro Kwon defend against Bomaye Fight Club (Alex Kane & Mr. Thomas)
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction match: Mads Krule Krugger vs. AKIRA
  • Donovan Dijak vs. Trevor Lee

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles change hands at New Japan Road

The United Empire has added a new championship to their ranks.

In the main event of Monday’s New Japan Road show in Tokyo, the United Empire team of TJP & Francesco Akira defeated Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles. Taguchi & Wato had held the titles since this February.

Akira pinned Wato to win the titles after he and TJP hit their double-team Leaning Tower finisher.

TJP & Akira’s United Empire stablemates The Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb are also the current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, while United Empire’s Will Ospreay holds the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

Akira made his NJPW debut as a participant in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. With his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team title win, Akira is the first Italian champion in IWGP history.

Here are the full results from Monday’s New Japan Road event:

  • TJP & Francesco Akira defeated Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles
  • Tomohiro Ishii defeated Yoshinobu Kanemaru to advance to AEW All-Atlantic Championship qualifying match (Ishii will face Clark Connors in the qualifying match at Tuesday’s New Japan Road show)

MLW Fusion results: Buddy Matthews vs. TJP, Rok-C vs. Miranda Gordy

The show opened with a graphic paying tribute to Scott Hall.

Richard Holiday cut a promo in an empty Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, NC — the venue that hosted last week’s SuperFight in Charlotte. He said despite the history that has occurred in that building, it will now be forever known for his attack on MLW Champion Hammerstone last week. He knelt over a spot where Hammerstone’s blood was still stained on the floor and said it will forever remain in Charlotte.

Miranda Gordy defeated Rok-C

This show aired on the day WWE announced Rok-C as part of the latest class of recruits to start at the Performance Center. The commentary team played up the history of Gordy’s father, Terry, in Dallas as well.

Gordy had the size and strength advantage, but Rok-C found a counter for most things she attempted early in the match.

They cut to a clip of a limousine parked out front and the commentary team wondered who might be inside.

Gordy eventually got the first period of sustained offense. She knocked her young opponent down with a series of chops. She followed that up with a big body slam for a two count. Rok-C then fought back with a series of strikes but Gordy cut off her momentum with another slam and an elbow drop.

An opportunity opened up for Rok-C when she dodged a charge into the corner and Gordy landed hard on the turnbuckle. Rok-C landed a Lou Thesz press and then got a two count off a pinning combination. She then locked in a crossface. Gordy fought out of it and the two the exchanged pinning combinations. Gordy then hit a kick to the stomach and her Bam Bam Slam (power bomb) for the win.

After the match, Gordy was interviewed ringside and said she’s not a featherweight: she’s a powerweight and she’s going to destroy all the ballerinas and barbie dolls in the division.

– A video featuring Mads Krugger was shown. He challenged Jacob Fatu to a Stairway to Hell match for next week.

– It was announced that Gangrel debuts next week. However, he debuted years ago at the original War Games against Simon Gotch.

– We cut back to the limousine. A window rolled down to reveal Holliday and Alicia Atout in the car. They were celebrating their attack on Hammerstone from last week. He said they had something historic and sexy planned to celebrate. They invited the camera guy into the limo to end the segment.

– Dr. Julius Smokes cut a promo hyping up 5150. He mentioned that he would die for Konnan. Hopefully, Konnan is healthy enough to return to tapings shortly.

– A backstage promo featuring Hammerstone was shown. He talked about dropping out of college to chase his pro wrestling dream. He also talked about the struggles he had early in his career while making hardly any money.

– A vignette announced that Killer Kross makes his return next week.

– Following the attack by 5150 last week, Marshall Von Erich suffered a fractured ankle and will be out three-to-four weeks. Ross Von Erich is day-to-day after suffering a grade one concussion. The medical update on Hammerstone was that there is no update as he has refused to participate in a medical evaluation.

– EJ Nduka was interviewed backstage. He said 5150 chose the wrong one when they attacked him at SuperFight.

– We cut back to Holliday and Atout in the limo. They started making out when Alicia became distracted. She showed her phone to Holliday and he agreed with her that it was big news. They then exited the limo.

TJP defeated Buddy Matthews

TJP cut a promo before the match. He called the fans “crayon eaters” which got a surprise pop out of me. He continued to talk about MLW’s open door free agent policy. He’s not a fan of the policy as he feels all the indie darlings suck. He is forced to entertain the policy tonight, however, as he takes on Buddy Matthews.

Matthews got on the mic before the match as well. He said he didn’t knock on the forbidden door — he knocked it down. He said he’s the greatest cruiserweight and commentary played up how he and TJP are both former cruiserweight champions from a different company.

During the opening moments, commentary mentioned that they are hearing something is happening in the back involving Cesar Duran.

They opened up with some grappling until they found themselves at a stalemate. TJP locked in an octopus stretch moments later.

Matthews dodged a move in the corner and landed awkwardly on his knee. He limped to the outside, but TJP followed. Matthews then tossed TJP into the guardrail. This injury would become the story of the match.

TJP delivered a springboard dropkick to his opponent’s injured knee and then continued to work on it for a period. He locked in a figure four at one point as the match continued to center around Matthews’ knee. Matthews eventually reversed the pressure and TJP grabbed the ropes to break the hold. TJP then went right back to focusing on the knee after.

Matthews fought back and delivered a DDT as TJP was draped in the ropes. The two ended up exchanging strikes in the middle of the ring moments later. Matthews hit a gourdbuster and followed that up with strikes before hitting a brainbuster for a two count.

Matthews went for a sunset flip bomb, but his knee buckled and he crumpled to the mat. TJP then took time to dab (in 2022) which allowed Matthews to hit him with some kicks. Matthews then picked him up and delivered a power bomb for a two count. Commentary then mentioned we would have an announcement from Duran after the conclusion of the match.

TJP locked Matthews in a figure four deathlock (basically a figure four/sharpshooter combo). He then went for the detonation kick, but Matthews countered into a curb stomp for a two count.

They ended up fighting atop the turnbuckle when TJP grabbed the referee by his shirt. Matthews fought to free the ref but TJP swiped at Matthews’ leg and sent him to the mat. TJP then hit the Mamba splash to the knee and got a two count. As Matthews kicked out, TJP transitioned into a heel hook. Matthews tried to crawl to the ropes but ended up tapping out. This was good.

TJP yelled into the camera that he and the other members of the United Empire are taking over the world.

– We cut to the back where Duran said that Hammerstone has been impossible to reach following the attack from Holliday last week. He said that if Hammerstone doesn’t appear in person on MLW Fusion next week, the World title will be vacated.

Next Week:

– Mads Krugger vs. Jacob Fatu in a Stairway to Hell match

TJP vs. Myron Reed added to MLW SuperFight

Editor’s note: This article references results from MLW TV tapings that have yet to air

A new match has been added to the lineup for this week’s MLW television tapings.

MLW has announced that TJP vs. Myron Reed will take place at their SuperFight tapings in Charlotte, North Carolina this Saturday. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center.

At Blood & Thunder last month, Reed became a three-time MLW Middleweight Champion by regaining the title from Tajiri. Reed defeated Tajiri in a match that also included Bandido, who was making his surprise MLW debut at the tapings. That match will air on MLW Fusion this week.

TJP made it to the finals of last year’s MLW Opera Cup tournament before losing to Davey Richards. Richards is challenging for Alex Hammerstone’s MLW World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of SuperFight.

Here’s the updated SuperFight card:

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
  • Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • Killer Kross returns to MLW
  • MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match
  • MLW Tag Team Champions 5150 defend against EJ Nduka and a mystery partner
  • Ross & Marshall Von Erich vs. Ricky & Kerry Morton
  • nZo vs. KC Navarro
  • Alex Shelley vs. Richard Holliday
  • Trios match: Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro vs. Puma King, Octagon Jr., and a mystery partner
  • Gangrel vs. Gnarls Garvin
  • TJP vs. Myron Reed
  • Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat appears

NJPW Strong results: TJP vs. Clark Connors

This week’s New Japan Strong kicked off the most recent set of tapings from The New Beginning USA tapings in Seattle at Washington Hall, the home of super indie DEFY Wrestling.

ROH’s Ian Riccaboni joined Alex Koslov on commentary. Riccaboni, who has also appeared for both Impact Wrestling and GCW recently, was filling in for Kevin Kelly, who was overseas doing English broadcasting in Japan.

If you’ve seen the 2019 NJPW Super J Cup, which was also filmed in Washington, tonight’s production quality and overall look was similar.

Brody King defeated Yuya Uemura

The two stood face to face in the ring before the bell, King almost a full head over Uemura. There were lots of chants for King before things got started.

This was a good opener. King was on the offensive throughout most of this. He squashed Uemura with a senton early, later putting Ueumura in a seated abdominal stretch and clubbing him in the chest with his free arm as he stretched him out.

While Ueumura took a beating, he always wrestled with fire and attempted to come back. It was King who was just too much for the recently-graduated Young Lion.

Uemura would eventually connect with a string of moves to help him put King on the defensive. They traded big elbows, but Uemura landed a nice dropkick off the ropes soon after. He caught King with a running dropkick in the corner later and somehow put King down on the mat with a backdrop Saito suplex.

King answered back, locking Uemura in a bear hug and spiking him with a piledriver for two. Uemura slapped on a desperation armbar but King was close enough to the ropes to have the referee call for the break. He then put Uemura away with a big lariat and the Gonzo Bomb for the win.

King, who has been on a roll since last year, looked great, but so did Uemura who earned a chant of his own before he exited to the back.

Lio Rush & Rocky Romero defeated West Coast Wrecking Crew

The WCWC (Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson) were regulars in the Seattle area for DEFY before they got to NJPW, where they wrestled under the name The One Percent. As a result, the crowd sounded familiar with them.

There was lots of action in this one. WCWC jumped Romero & Rush before the bell. Rush and Nelson fought on the floor while Isaacs worked Romero over in the ring. They did stereo delayed suplexes next, one in the ring and one on the floor. Nelson used a gourdbuster and dumped Rush face first to the mat while Isaacs dropped Romero with a suplex in the ring. WCWC then ran back into the ring to do some flexing and posing for the fans.

Romero later landed some hard chops on Isaacs and the crowd was loudly behind him. Isaacs kiboshed that and kept working him over while Nelson began tearing the red ringpost pad from the turnbuckle in the corner “Toru Yano style” as Riccaboni put it.

Romero was finally able to swing out of Isaac’s grip with a tornado DDT and tag out to Rush. Isaacs tagged out Nelson, who caught a springboard moonsault from Rush upon entering the ring. Rush did an Asai moonsault to the floor onto Isaacs next and ran back into the ring for a flying frog crossbody attack (he did the froggy pump and a crossbody block, like Hiroshi Tanahashi does sometimes) onto Nelson.

A proverbial “house of fire,” Rush was. This kid has so much in-ring talent alone that it’s kind of crazy he’s not in a top spot somewhere.

Nelson caught Rush with flying double knees in the corner and tagged out to Isaacs. Rush landed an enzuigiri on Isaacs and tagged out to Romero, who ran wild from corner to corner with Forever Clotheslines on both Isaacs and Nelson.

WCWC took Romero out soon after, using a running knee-to-German suplex double team spot on Romero for two. They did a cool double team slingshot-to-powerslam for another two. The match began breaking down. Rush dove onto the floor with a tope suicida as we hit the ten minute mark.

Romero caught Isaacs coming off the ropes with a flying armbar, transitioning to a triangle choke and finally to an armbar on the opposite side. He grabbed Isaacs’ left leg for more leverage and pressure, which got Isaacs to ultimately tap out. This match had really good stuff from everyone involved.

WCWC beat up Romero after the match with a black kendo stick—a message from Black Tiger and Team Filthy to Romero, who has been feuding with the new Black Tiger since early in the year. Isaacs looked to the camera and told Black Tiger they had his back.

Romero and the new Black Tiger will finally have a singles match at the upcoming NJPW Strong: Rivals tapings this month.

— Riccaboni interviewed David Finlay and Juice Robinson. FinJuice were pissed and called out JONAH and Bad Dude Tito for sticking their noses in their business. Finlay and Robinson usually come off happy-go-lucky babyfaces, but this promo had an edge to it for sure.

The promo was short and to the point, covering all that’s happened between the four within the past month like when JONAH and Tito jumped Robinson after JONAH’s singles match against him at NJPW Strong: Nemesis. These two teams will also square off at NJPW Strong: Rivals this month.

Clark Connors defeated TJP

NJPW Strong has been slow cooking this mentor vs. mentee rivalry over the past two years or so. A video package broke down all the different stops along the way, starting with the aforementioned Super J-Cup 2019 all the way through Showdown 2021.

Connors, who comes from the Pacific Northwest, got a great reception before the match started. He slammed TJP into the corner and took his knee tape off. It’s business time. Connors next walked back to the corner and chopped the hell out of TJP, who was still reeling. He launched him with two very high angle German suplexes and went for a third before TJP escaped to the floor. Connors ran after him and pounced TJP over the guardrail onto the ring announcer’s table. This was great but also would have looked better if the lighting wasn’t so dark.

TJP locked Connors in a guillotine choke inside the ropes, his back facing the audience. He then planted him with a high back suplex with one grapevined leg for a two count. He put Connors in a chinlock for a while and the crowd got loud in support of Connors. TJP face washed him in the corner and I liked how Riccaboni said, “I don’t agree with this move” which is such an accurate take on the spot. It’s not illegal, yet there’s nothing sportsmanlike about it. Heavy boos rained down onto TJP.

Connors was able to gather up a burst of energy to catch TJP running off the ropes with a flying shoulder block. He dropped an elbow on to his former mentor just after the ten minute call sounded.

TJP tried springboarding off the ropes, but Connors caught him mid-air with a spear. Both were out for a while. TJP was back up first and gave Connors more disrespectful face washes as he pointed to those booing him in the crowd. He locked Connors in an armbar next, but Connors reversed it into a Mr. Gannosuke-style full nelson clutch. TJP escaped after grabbing the ropes for a break.

When TJP tried escaping to the floor again, Connors caught him with a spear while he was still on the apron which got the crowd to chant “this is awesome.”

Connors tried suplexing TJP back into the ring, but TJP countered and locked Connors in a triangle choke in the ropes. He let go and then dashed to the top rope to drop a flying knee across the back of Connors, who was still caught in the ropes. TJP then rolled Connors to the center and hit his Mamba Splash finisher for a really close two count. The crowd was steaming hot at this point.

TJP then hit a crazy looking cobra twist driver, but Connors kicked out at one. He landed a fireman’s carry-to-gamengiri kick but again, Connors kicked out after the count of one. If this were a video game, his spirit level would have been flashing like crazy at this moment.

TJP did a backslide followed by a modified scorpion deathlock, wrenching on Connors’ injured knee. Connors caught the ropes for a break and then rolled TJP up for two. They then knocked each other down after a double lariat. Referee Jeremy Marcus shouted at both to get back up. When both were, TJP went for a tornado DDT but Connors instead just launched the guy forward and he went flying, landing face first onto the mat. Connors climbed to the top but TJP stopped him, again wrenching on Connors’ injured shoulder.

Moments later, Connors connected with a Mamba Splash of his own. Connors flashed the LA Dojo sign at TJP, which the crowd enjoyed, and then used a big stacked power bomb on him for two. TJP flipped Connors off and Connors powerslammed him. Then, he put his former mentor TJP away with Catch and Kill, a backdrop suplex-to-power bomb, for the emphatic win in 18:19.

This was excellent and Connors’ best match on NJPW Strong of all time, and possibly even the best match of his career so far.

Final thoughts:

This show had a big time feel and delivered with three very good-to-great matches. Each is worth going out of your way to see, and each had a different flavor than the other. King vs. Uemura was a killer hard-hitting opener while the West Coast Wrecking Crew vs. Rush & Romero was top-tier tag team wrestling.

The main event wasn’t just Connors’ best match on the show but possibly also TJP’s as well. Actually, I can’t think of too many better TJP matches in the past few years than this one. Good on both of them for this ripper of a match.

Middleweight title eliminator match set for MLW Blood & Thunder

A match with future Middleweight title implications is set for MLW’s Blood & Thunder tapings.

MLW has announced that TJP vs. Matt Cross will take place at Blood & Thunder on Friday, January 21. It’s a Middleweight title eliminator match, with the winner getting a future shot at the MLW Middleweight Championship.

Tajiri currently holds the MLW Middleweight title. He’s set to defend it in a triple threat match against Myron Reed and a mystery opponent at Blood & Thunder.

Tajiri also has a Middleweight title defense scheduled against Jody Fleisch for World Pro Wrestling in the United Kingdom on Saturday, February 19.

“TJP, fresh off of an impressive outing in the ’21 Opera Cup, where he went to the finals, looks to start 2022 with a statement. A win over the globe-trotting grappler Matt Cross would start the new year with a punctuation,” MLW wrote.

“Meanwhile, the talented Matt Cross has rumbled with some of MLW’s best and is hungry to get into the mix for a crack at the middleweight championship.”

The Blood & Thunder tapings are being held at Gilley’s Dallas in Dallas, Texas. Here’s the updated lineup for the event:

  • Falls count anywhere match: MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Pagano
  • Texas Tornado match: MLW Tag Team Champions 5150 (Slice Boogie & Danny “Limelight” Rivera) defend against Marshall & Ross Von Erich
  • Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • Triple threat match: MLW Middleweight Champion Tajiri defends against Myron Reed and a mystery entrant
  • MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman
  • Rok-C vs. Miranda Gordy
  • Davey Richards vs. ACH
  • Middleweight title eliminator match: TJP vs. Matt Cross
  • Trios match: Aramis, El Dragon, and a mystery partner vs. Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro

NJPW’S Jeff Cobb, TJP announced for November 19 CMLL show

NJPW’s Jeff Cobb and TJP have been announced for the Friday, November 19 CMLL show at Arena Mexico in Mexico City.

No opponents have been announced for the United Empire members, nor whether the two will be teaming or in singles competition on the show.

Cobb was the runner-up in NJPW’s G1 Climax 31 B Block last month, losing just once in his nine tournament matches. He dropped his final Block match to eventual tournament winner Kazuchika Okada.

Cobb became the fourth member of the United Empire stable at the start of NJPW’s 2020 World Tag League, teaming with founding member Great-O-Khan in the tournament. Will Ospreay, O-Khan and Bea Priestley were the group’s original trio. Ospreay kicked Priestley out of the group at the 2021 New Japan Cup finals. Priestley eventually moved to WWE’s NXT UK, where she now appears under the ring name Blair Davenport.

TJP joined the United Empire at the NJPW Strong Autumn Attack tapings on September 26 of this year. The week prior, Aussie Open’s Mark Fletcher and Kyle Davis joined the group at RevPro’s High Stakes 2021 event.

MLW Fusion Alpha results: Davey Richards vs. TJP

Wednesday featured the return of MLW Fusion: Alpha, their first show since July’s Battle Riot III.

The debut featured Davey Richards making his singles debut vs. TJP; the Von Erichs vs. Team Filthy in a bunkhouse brawl and Gino Medina against KC Navarro.

It was immediately clear that Cesar Duran is the new authority figure in MLW. He welcomed us to his “new era of luchas” before announcing the entire card.

Later in the night, he was confronted by Matt Cross who said he deserved a shot at the MLW World title because the last time he and Duran were face-to-face, he defeated a previous MLW champion. Look for Jacob Fatu vs. Cross in the coming weeks.

Tom Lawlor came into Duran’s office and complained that Alexander Hammerstone got a title shot for winning the Battle Riot while Lawlor won the 2020 Opera Cup and got nothing. Duran gave Lawlor a title shot next week against Hammerstone for the National Openweight title. This was definitely not the title (or the champion) that Lawlor wanted to face.

Marshall & Ross Von Erich defeated Team Filthy (Kevin Ku & Kit Osbourne) in a bunkhouse brawl

This feud stems back to Thanksgiving night 2019 when Lawlor turned against the Von Erichs and smashed Ross Von Erich’s head with a steel chair. Before that, Lawlor was aligned with the Von Erichs in their ongoing war with CONTRA Unit. The turn and the betrayal cut deep, but the fallout has yet to be concluded.

Lawlor took the microphone before the match and told the Philadelphia crowd that they didn’t deserve to see Team Filthy or the 2020 Opera Cup winner in action. He was interrupted by the Von Erichs as they were keen to shut him up.

This was as advertised: a weapons filled brawl. With Osbourne involved, the result was never really in doubt, but the threat of Lawlor on the outside loomed large as it appears this feud will continue with the Von Erichs still not getting their hands on Lawlor himself.

Ku and Osbourne focused on Marshall’s previously injured knee, but Ross was the one who fired up after being suplexed onto two sitting chairs. Lawlor tried to get involved but ended up waffling poor Ku with a 2×4. This led to Marshall hitting a top rope moonsault onto both Team Filthy members (Osbourne lay on a makeshift wooden table resting on two chairs while Ku lay under it). Marshall then pinned both of them to get the win.

— The first participants in the new MLW women’s featherweight division were announced: the Sea Stars (Ashley Vox & Delmi Exo), Brittany Blake, Holidead, Zoey Skye, Willow Nightingale and Nicole Savoy.

Gino Medina defeated KC Navarro

This was a good high-flying and hard-hitting showcase for both. Navarro was likely the favorite due to this being his first singles match in MLW, but Medina pulled out the win with a new finishing sequence: a Go-to-Sleep style knee, his previous finisher (a high kick to the back of the head), and a torture rack into an X-Factor.

The 22-year-old “blessed” Navarro looked good as he smashed into Medina with a suicide dive between the middle and bottom rope, later landing a great looking tilt-a-whirl satellite DDT inside in the ring. But Medina aggressively fought back and took control. After a good back and forth toward the finish, Medina got the win to put him right back into the ranking picture.

Davey Richards defeated TJP

Richards got a nice “welcome back” chant for his MLW singles debut. This was a 15-minute battle that started technically excellent and had the time to build to an exciting submission battle finish.

TJP had an arrogant and cocky interview earlier in the night where he said that they both go back 20 years, but he hopes Richards doesn’t quit again before he gets to the ring. That arrogance played into the opening minutes as TJP rested between the ropes and worked the crowd as he got the slight upper hand over Richards.

TJP also mentioned Richards’ long layoff, even saying that he had been spending all his time with his nose in a book while he could have earned his degree by watching just one of TJP’s matches. That story played out quite well as it seemed TJP was the fitter of the two in the opening segments.

But TJP’s arrogance came back to bite him as Richards cut him off on the top rope. That led to Richards firing up with multiple headbutts and a superplex off the top. They had an exciting closing five minutes which started with Richards firing up with a great German suplex, a victory roll reversal, an ankle lock, and a penalty kick for a close two count.

Richards missed a double stomp and they went back and forth with a submission battle as he locked in an armbar. TJP reversed it into one of his own, Richards turned that into an ankle lock and TJP then rolled into a heel hook and a stepover toehold into an abdominal stretch. That finally grounded Richards before he got to the ropes.

After they untangled, the two exhausted wrestlers fought on the apron. Richards hit an exploder brainbuster on the apron and a double stomp from the top rope for a two count, but he didn’t stop after the kick out. Richards planted TJP with a brainbuster, but it still wasn’t enough.

Richards turned to an ankle lock to bring his pre-match submission win prediction to light, tapping out TJP.

Next Week:

  • National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone vs. Tom Lawlor title match
  • Arez vs. Aramis
  • Alex Kane in action

Davey Richards vs. TJP added to MLW Battle Riot tapings

MLW has revealed who Davey Richards will be facing in his debut for the promotion.

It was announced today that Richards vs. TJP will take place at MLW’s Battle Riot tapings on Saturday, July 10. The tapings are being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It will be the first MLW event with fans in attendance since March 2020.

MLW announced last month that Richards had signed with them and would be debuting at the Battle Riot tapings. Richards returned to professional wrestling this year for the first time since 2017.

Richards is a former ROH World Champion, a five-time former Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champion, a three-time former ROH Tag Team Champion, and a two-time former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

In addition to facing Richards, TJP has also been confirmed for the 40-man Battle Riot match that’s taking place at the Philadelphia tapings. The winner will receive an MLW World Heavyweight Championship shot whenever they want it. The title is currently held by Jacob Fatu.

Here’s the updated card for the Battle Riot tapings:

  • 40-man Battle Riot match (Alex Hammerstone, King Muertes, Richard Holliday, Zenshi, Lee Moriarty, TJP, Gringo Loco, Arez, and Kevin Ku confirmed thus far)
  • IWA Caribbean Champion Richard Holliday defends against King Muertes in a Caribbean Rules (anything goes) match
  • Davey Richards vs. TJP

Hammerstone & Bauer segments, TJP vs. Dao set for MLW Fusion

A few announcements have been made for next week’s episode of MLW Fusion.

Next Wednesday’s Fusion will feature a press conference by National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone. In the main event of this week’s Fusion, Hammerstone defeated Mil Muertes to defend his title.

Hammerstone got on the microphone after defeating Muertes and said that was just step one. Hammerstone said things will be getting more interesting with step two. Hammerstone announced that he’ll be holding a press conference next week and will have some very Dynastic news. On commentary, it was speculated that Hammerstone could be going after MLW World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu.

An appearance by MLW CEO Court Bauer is also set for next Wednesday’s Fusion. Plus, TJP vs. Bu Ku Dao will take place on the episode.

It was said on this week’s Fusion that Bauer has been busy with MLW’s partnership with Dragon Gate and MLW’s TV deal and will be in the house for next Wednesday’s show.

TJP turned against his protege Dao after they lost an MLW Tag Team title match to Los Parks this February. TJP vs. Dao was originally supposed to take place last month, but there was an angle where TJP was fined and suspended for attacking Dao backstage before the match could get started.
