WWE WrestleMania 41 Saturday post-show notes: Triple H on AAA acquisition

Triple H, among other WWE stars, took questions from the media following night one of WrestleMania 41.

The newest member of the WWE Hall of Fame, new World Champion Jey Uso, and Tiffany Stratton took questions from the media following WrestleMania 41 on Saturday. Seth Rollins, who emerged victorious in the main event, was originally advertised for the show but announcers later said he refused to appear.

Here are the highlights:

Jey Uso

  • He said that nothing has sunk in following his win over Gunther. It’s been a long week. He later answered “fire” he said when asked what it felt like to be the face of the company.
  • He replied the same way when asked what it felt like for his brother to congratulate him after winning the World Heavyweight title. He promised to embrace the hate and embrace the love and hoped everyone had fun this week.

Tiffany Stratton

  • Stratton said it’s hard for her to feel emotions after the match due to adrenaline and felt like she went through the fight of her life.
  • She said the win was super important to her and will use the momentum to carry over to her next storyline or feud.

Triple H

  • He said tonight’s gate was a new record for any single night gate in WWE history. WWE’s number for the show is 61,467, a full sellout that Triple H expects to be broken tomorrow.
  • On Rey Fenix replacing Rey Mysterio, Triple H praised Fenix saying he did a great job on such short notice.
  • Regarding the purchase of AAA, Triple H said it was a very exciting time for the company and an exciting opportunity to continue to grow lucha libre. It’s woven into the fabric of the Mexican culture, it’s impressive to see. He not only wants to see it continue to exist, but also wants to see it grow.
  • He said he loves lucha as a style, and having all styles is valuable. They have a style but they are looking to keep traditional lucha libre. Very exciting day for all Hispanic talent.
  • The intent is to grow lucha libre and AAA, including in countires like South and Central America.
  • Talking about the Hall of Fame, it was great having his family and the fans as he loves what WWE does. He considers his family his family, but also considers fans and the talent as his family as well.
  • When talking about build to WrestleMania and his creative process, it was a different kind of build. He compared the matches to individual tracks on an album. He said if you don’t have a plan for after WrestleMania, then you’ve messed up. Plans can change, but you need to have plans, even if they are something that doesn’t pay off at the moment.
  • He considers it a process, not a moment. He handled himself and the emotion. Sometimes he hears people calling Jey the “yeet guy” but yet people are invested in him and his character. It’s not riding a shtick to the ground, he’s out there vibing with people. He considers Jey a pro for putting the gas on something when he needs to, and also saw it in tonight’s main event.

WWE WrestleMania 41 notes: Celebrities, announced attendance, Rey Fenix

Here are some news and notes from Saturday’s night one of WWE WrestleMania 41.

Celebrities in the house

As expected, a who’s who of celebrities were at the first night including NFL star George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, musicians Jelly Roll and Lil Yachty, UFC head Dana White (who was booed the second time he was shown on camera), actor Stephen Amell, podcaster Bill Simmons, former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, magician Criss Angel, music producer Rick Rubin, and TKO executives.

WrestleMania 41 attendance

Shawn Michaels announced night one was attendance was a sellout of 61,467. At 9 AM Saturday morning, WrestleTix estimated a distributed number of just under 56,000 with a setup for just over 57,000.

The announced number is shy of the 63,969 for the 2024 Vegas Kickoff Classic between USC and LSU and a few hundred behind the 61,629 for that same year’s Super Bowl.

WrestleMania in-ring debuts

A year ago, Rey Fenix was readying for his return to the AEW ring after dealing with injuries to his back and hip — ones he called the worst of his career.

Fast forward to Saturday night and Fenix came in as an injury replacement for Rey Mysterio who tore his groin in a trios match on Friday’s SmackDown, making his WrestleMania debut in the process. He still fell in defeat to El Grande Americano who continues his war with his, ahem, fellow luchadores.

Fenix wasn’t the only one to make their WrestleMania debuts Saturday as WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton picked up a successful title defense against Charlotte Flair. Stratton competed in a dark match on the SmackDown before WrestleMania just over a year ago.

Jacob Fatu made his first WrestleMania a big one as he defeated LA Knight for the WWE United States title — his first singles belt in WWE.

Seth Rollins wins WWE WrestleMania 41 night one main event, aligns with Paul Heyman

WWE WrestleMania 41 night one is officially in the books and Seth Rollins left the three-way main event with Roman Reigns and CM Punk as the winner and also with someone new in his corner: Paul Heyman.

As Rollins, Punk and Reigns were laid out in exhaustion in the match’s closing stages, Heyman grabbed a chair and couldn’t figure out who to slide it toward, Reigns or Punk, eventually giving it to Punk. He then got in the ring behind Punk to guide him and low blowed him instead, groveling in anguish at his decision afterward. Reigns then waffled Punk with the chair before turning his attention to Rollins at Heyman’s instruction.

As Reigns loaded up, Heyman gave him a low blow and handed Rollins the chair who then hit Reigns with it followed by a curb stomp, pinning Reigns as Heyman looked on in approval. The two then left together to close the show.

The match itself was competitive between all three men, spilling to the outside of the ring early on with Rollins and Punk using chairs and trash cans before Reigns flew out of nowhere over the barricade to take both men out.

Rollins looked to have had the match won at one point, countering a spear into a pedigree and hitting a curb stomp for a close nearfall. Later, Punk hit a GTS on Reigns after he accidentally took out Rollins with a spear for his own nearfall.

Rollins attempted to align with his former Shield teammate Reigns to take Punk out, but then took Rollins out with a punch and power bombed Punk through an announce table, followed by Rollins through another table. He then tossed Rollins in the ring, hit a spear, and got his own close nearfall.

Punk reversed a Reigns guillotine into the anaconda vice until Rollins got in and ensnared Punk into a sharpshooter. Reigns recovered and got a guillotine choke on Rollins which Rollins countered into a suplex, leading to a Punk curb stomp, GTS and another nearfall.

That was all before the final sequence listed above.

**********

There was no title on the line, Reigns’ first WrestleMania since the 35th edition in 2019 where he didn’t come in with a championship to defend. For Punk, it was his first WrestleMania main event and first WrestleMania match since 2013’s 29th edition against The Undertaker.

For the first time in years, Punk was accompanied by Heyman (much like he was at 29) as a favor Punk was owed going back to last November’s Survivor Series WarGames match. Rollins, of course, had his issues with both men from in-ring feuds to past alliances.

Now, things have changed for all four men again.

Tiffany Stratton retains over Charlotte Flair at WWE WrestleMania 41

The WWE Women’s Championship remains with Tiffany Stratton.

Stratton defeated Charlotte Flair in the semi-main event of Saturday’s night one of WWE WrestleMania 41, retaining the Women’s title over the 14-tim former Women’s champ. After a Prettiest Moonsault Ever, Stratton pinned Flair to retain the title at Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium.

The champ did not emerge from the match unscathed, as Stratton appeared to have chipped her front teeth in the bout, and also had a welt on her forehead.

The story of the match focused on Flair targeting Stratton’s legs to set her up for a potential Figure Eight, but not being able to bridge into the move after Stratton attacked Flair’s heavily braced left knee. Flair missed more than a year of ring time after suffering a torn ACL in a December 2023 match.

Stratton’s title defense was the third of her current reign as WWE Women’s Champion, and her first in over two months. Stratton cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax on the January 3 SmackDown to win the gold for the first time.

Flair’s WrestleMania record drops to 4-4 after the loss, while Stratton’s victory came in her WrestleMania debut.

El Hijo del Vikingo gets involved at WWE WrestleMania 41

On the day it was announced that WWE has acquired Lucha Libre AAA, one of their top stars briefly got involved in the action at WrestleMania 41.

El Hijo del Vikingo was in the front row for Rey Fenix vs. El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) at night one of WrestleMania in Las Vegas on Saturday. Before the bell rang, there was a spot where Vikingo kicked Americano after being shoved by him at ringside. Vikingo was identified as a former AAA Champion.

During the match, Americano inserted a metal plate into his face mask and proceeded to use it as a weapon, getting the victory with a diving headbutt to Fenix. Vikingo entered the ring to check on Fenix after the match and help him to his feet.

AAA representatives Marisela Pena and Dorian Roldan were also shown on camera at WrestleMania, with Michael Cole saying WWE’s acquisition of AAA will change the landscape of lucha libre. Cole plugged the AAA & NXT Worlds Collide event that will be held in Los Angeles this June.

The announcement of the AAA acquisition was made by Paul “Triple H” Levesque during tonight’s pre-show with Vikingo, Pena, and Roldan among the personnel appearing alongside him.

Vikingo is a one-time AAA Mega Champion. In the United States, he made frequent appearances for AEW from 2023-2024. Vikingo has also competed for TNA Wrestling — and he’ll be in action at TNA’s Rebellion pay-per-view later this month.

Rey Mysterio was originally scheduled to be Americano’s WrestleMania opponent, but Fenix replaced him in the match after Mysterio suffered an injury on SmackDown last night. Dave Meltzer reports that Mysterio’s injury is a torn groin.

Jacob Fatu wins United States title at WWE WrestleMania 41

Jacob Fatu has won gold.

Fatu defeated LA Knight at WrestleMania 41 Saturday to win the United States title for the first time. The finish of the match had Knight go to the top rope, but Fatu cut him off and hit a senton as Knight was still sprawled on the rope. Fatu followed that with consecutive moonsaults for the win.

After the match, Haku appeared at ringside and embraced Fatu as the new US Champion celebrated with the title.

Fatu won the opportunity to face Knight after winning a Last Man Standing match against Braun Strowman, becoming the new number one contender. On the final SmackDown before WrestleMania, Knight was wrestling Solo Sikoa when the match ended after Solo Sikoa interfered. The match was then restarted as a tag team match, ending when Knight scored the win with the BFT.

It is the second title change on the card so far, with Jey Uso defeating Gunther to win the World Heavyweight title in the open.

New Day win World Tag Team titles at WWE WrestleMania 41

The New Day are once again Tag Team Champions in WWE.

The New Day duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defeated Erik and Ivar of The War Raiders at WrestleMania 41 on Saturday night in Las Vegas to become the new World Tag Team Champions.

The victory marks the first Tag title reign for New Day since their December 2024 heel turn, and their thirteenth overall Tag Team title reign in WWE, including 12 reigns with various iterations of the titles on the main roster, plus an NXT Tag title reign.

Woods pinned Ivar for the finish of the bout, with Kingston holding Ivar’s leg down out of sight of the referee in a variation of the finish to the Rick Rude vs. Ultimate Warrior WrestleMania 5 bout.

The New Day vs. The War Raiders went on second on night one of WrestleMania 41 on Saturday, and featured the second title change in as many bouts, as Jey Uso defeated Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in the opener.

Our ongoing live coverage of WWE WrestleMania 41 is here.

Jey Uso taps out Gunther to win WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Fifteen years into his WWE career, Jey Uso is finally World Champion.

Night one of WrestleMania 41 opened with Uso defeating Gunther to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. After surviving a belt shot and a barrage of offense from Gunther, Uso took control at the end of the match — which culminated with him tapping out Gunther with a sleeper.

Uso got momentum on his side when he slipped out of a powerbomb and then hit one of his own. He followed up with a superkick, a spear, and three top rope splashes. Uso then used the sleeper — one of Gunther’s signature moves — for the submission victory.

This is the first singles World Championship reign of Uso’s career. His only other singles title was a run with the Intercontinental title in 2024.

After the match, Uso celebrated in the ring with his twin brother Jimmy, who had been bloodied by Gunther and choked out with a sleeper in an angle during the build to WrestleMania.

Uso earned this title shot by winning the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match. He had fallen short against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in January before winning the Rumble to get another crack at the World Heavyweight Championship.

Gunther’s reign as champion lasted more than eight months after winning the belt from Damian Priest at SummerSlam last year.

Backstage after defeating Gunther, Uso posed for a photo with Paul “Triple H” Levesque:

Becky Lynch possibly replacing Bayley in WWE WrestleMania 41 Tag Team title match

Lyra Valkyria needs a tag team partner, and Becky Lynch could be it.

WWE shot an angle during the WrestleMania 41 Saturday pre-show in which Valkyria was seen running backstage only to see her tag team partner for Sunday, Bayley, lying on the floor and clutching her shoulder. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were then seen walking by, laughing at the predicament. Raw GM Adam Pearce confronted the champions but both denied having anything to do with the attack. Pearce said the match would take place as scheduled, and told Valkyria that she had 24 hours to find a tag team partner.

Bryan Alvarez is reporting that the Bayley injury is a story and has been in the works for a while, with the idea being that Becky Lynch will replace her in the upcoming WWE Women’s Tag Team title match on Sunday. Lynch notably was in town during WrestleMania weekend, sitting next to Seth Rollins during the Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday.

Valkyria & Bayley were named number one contenders after winning a gauntlet match on last week’s SmackDown.

This is not the first WrestleMania match that has been changed today. After suffering an injury during SmackDown, Rey Mysterio announced that Rey Fenix would be taking his place in the match against El Grande Americano.

Major Becky Lynch WWE WrestleMania 41 Rumor

Becky Lynch is reportedly poised to make a significant return to WWE at WrestleMania 41 this weekend, following an 11-month hiatus. Becky Lynch WWE Return Rumors

Lynch’s absence began after her contract expired in June 2024. She officially re-signed with WWE in early January 2025, though her return to television was delayed as both parties awaited the right creative direction for “The Man.” During her time away from the ring, Lynch remained connected to WWE, participating in promotional activities for Raw’s transition to Netflix earlier this year.

Speculation about Lynch’s return intensified after she was spotted alongside her husband, Seth Rollins, at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in Las Vegas on Friday night. Her potential involvement at WrestleMania 41 could significantly impact the women’s division, particularly if she engages with ongoing storylines involving champions like Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, or Bianca Belair.

US President Donald Trump is someone that people have been expecting to appear at WrestleMania 41 this weekend. The former Apprentice star has been to a number of UFC events over the past year or so and with his former association with WWE it seemed like he was destined to be in attendance.

Whilst nothing has been confirmed, a new report seems to indicate that the President will not be appearing at the show this year.

Donald Trump WWE WrestleMania Latest

According to a new report from Fightful Select, nobody in WWE have been told that Donald Trump is going to be at the event.

Fightful also revealed that they had “contacted appropriate local authorities,” and that “they said they have not been informed or prepared for security measures or detail related to a presidential appearance.”

So by all accounts it appears as though Trump will not be appearing at the show this weekend, although this may well change.
