Sami Zayn wins United States title on WWE SmackDown

Sami Zayn has WrestleMania plans after all.

Zayn picked up the win over Carmelo Hayes on Friday to win the United States title for a second time. During the match, Trick Williams came out to watch, upset after Zayn attacked him earlier in the night. The new SmackDown star grabbed the United States title and gave it to Zayn, distracting the referee in the process. That allowed Williams to knock out Hayes, allowing an unassuming Zayn to take advantage with the helluva kick for the win.

The match came about when Zayn walked in on Nick Aldis telling Williams that he had a spot on the WrestleMania card. Zayn asked Aldis about his status and was stunned to find out that Aldis didn’t have a spot for him. Dejected, Zayn started to walk away but overheard Williams taunting him about going to catering. Zayn punched out Williams and told Aldis he was goign to find a way to get to WrestleMania, answering Hayes’ open challenge for the United States title.

Following his victory, Zayn spoke to Aldis again, asking him if there were plans for him at WrestleMania now. Aldis replied that there were, and announced a title match between Zayn and Williams for WrestleMania 42 next month.

Jacob Fatu wins United States title at WWE WrestleMania 41

Jacob Fatu has won gold.

Fatu defeated LA Knight at WrestleMania 41 Saturday to win the United States title for the first time. The finish of the match had Knight go to the top rope, but Fatu cut him off and hit a senton as Knight was still sprawled on the rope. Fatu followed that with consecutive moonsaults for the win.

After the match, Haku appeared at ringside and embraced Fatu as the new US Champion celebrated with the title.

Fatu won the opportunity to face Knight after winning a Last Man Standing match against Braun Strowman, becoming the new number one contender. On the final SmackDown before WrestleMania, Knight was wrestling Solo Sikoa when the match ended after Solo Sikoa interfered. The match was then restarted as a tag team match, ending when Knight scored the win with the BFT.

It is the second title change on the card so far, with Jey Uso defeating Gunther to win the World Heavyweight title in the open.

LA Knight earns future United States title match on WWE SmackDown

LA Knight has firmly established himself as the number one contender to the United States title.

Knight earned the opportunity to face Shinsuke Nakamura in a rematch for the United States title after winning a three-way match involving Carmelo Hayes and Jacob Fatu on SmackDown. The finish had Fatu hitting a swanton bomb on Hayes but as he was going for the cover Knight dragged Fatu out of the ring then covered Hayes to win the match.

Originally, Knight was advertised to face Nakamura on Friday in a title match. Just hours before the show went on the air, however, GM Nick Aldis announced on social media that while LA Knight believed he was the number one contender, champion Nakamura did not A three-match mini-tournament took place instead where the three winners later faced off in a triple threat match. Knight defeated Santos Escobar, Fatu (who replaced Solo Sikoa) defeated Andrade, and Carmelo Hayes defeated Braun Strowman by DQ to advance to the number one contendership match.

Nakamura defeated Knight to win the title back at Survivor Series. He is now in his third reign as United States Champion.

United States title match, stipulation tag team bout official for next WWE SmackDown

A United States title match is set for next week’s SmackDown.

LA Knight will defend the title against Andrade on next week’s show in Sacramento. Andrade won the best-of-five series between himself and Carmelo Hayes on Friday. After the match, Knight came out and congratulated Andrade on his win. However, he said he’ll drop Andrade on his head next week.

The two started their series back in July, with Andrade scoring the first two wins before Hayes rallied back with two wins of his own.

A tag team bout with big stipulations is also set for next week. After both Bayley and Naomi confronted Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton on Friday’s SmackDown, Jax suggested the tag match. She also named the stipulations: Whoever pinned her or Stratton would get a title match at next month’s Bad Blood PLE. However, if Stratton or Jax pinned either Bayley or Naomi, whoever lost the fall would have to leave the SmackDown brand.

Santos Escobar earns United States title match on WWE SmackDown

Santos Escobar is getting a title shot.

Escobar defeated Andrade on Friday to earn a future United States Championship match. The finish of the match had Carmelo Hayes interfere, pulling Escobar out of danger as Elektra Lopez distracted the referee. The confusion allowed Escobar to roll up Andrade for the win.

Right before the match, LA Knight came out for a United States Championship celebration after he defeated Logan Paul last weekend at SummerSlam. Escobar interrupted the celebration and said Knight winning the title was nothing more than a fleeting moment and an opening act to his own championship reign. Knight said it didn’t matter who won the number one contender’s match as everyone knows that it’s his game.

Back in June, LA Knight defeated Paul and Escobar in a three-way match to advance in the Money in the Bank ladder match. After MITB, Knight had attempted to get a title match, going as far as to getting into Logan Paul’s house. Paul eventually agreed to the match at SummerSlam, which he lost despite using brass knuckles given to him by MGK.

Logan Paul defeats Dillon Danis, calls out Rey Mysterio for WWE US title match

Logan Paul has called out Rey Mysterio.

Following his disqualification victory in a boxing match over Dillion Danis on Saturday, Paul brought up Mysterio’s name in the post-fight interview, saying he beat him once and can do it again. He specifically said that he was coming for Mysterio’s WWE United States title.

Shortly after the callout, Mysterio responded on X: “Did @loganpaul just call me out? I’m not hard to find homie. Every Friday Night on SmackDown.”

In the sixth round of their boxing match, Danis attempted to take down Paul with a guillotine choke, causing security to enter the ring and end the match, giving Paul the disqualification win.

Paul’s first pro wrestling match was at WrestleMania 38, where he and The Miz defeated Rey & Dominik Mysterio in a tag team match. Paul has since wrestled in multiple matches for WWE, most recently at SummerSlam where he defeated Ricochet.

Mysterio defeated Austin Theory for the United States title back on the August 11 edition of SmackDown. He recently defeated Santos Escobar to retain the championship, but was jumped by Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits after the match. Mysterio, Escobar, and the returning Carlito then defeated Lashley and The Street Profits at Fastlane last weekend.

Paul recently told Sports Illustrated that he has his sights set on winning WWE championships.

United States title match set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Rey Mysterio will defend the United States title on next week’s SmackDown.

Mysterio will deliver his promise he made to Santos Escobar last week when he defends the title against him on next week’s show. The two teamed together on Friday’s SmackDown, defeating The Street Profits in a tag team match.

After the match, Bobby Lashley confronted The Street Profits backstage, threatening to end his association with him. Lashley will appear on next week’s Grayson Waller Effect as a guest.

Also set for next week is a match between Bayley and Charlotte Flair. This comes after the finish of Friday’s WWE Women’s Championship match between champion IYO SKY and Asuka. Bayley helped put SKY’s foot on the rope in an effort to aid her. Flair saw this and attacked Bayley. Thanks to Bayley’s help, SKY then connected with a moonsault to retain the title.

Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar agree to WWE United States title match

Rey Mysterio accepted a United States title challenge from Santos Escobar on Friday’s SmackDown.

The two were in the ring with the rest of the LWO when Escobar started to talk about how it was a dream of his to face Mysterio for a championship title and requested a United States title match from Mysterio. After appearing surprised by Escobar’s request, Mysterio quickly accepted the request, setting up a future title match.

Mysterio won the United States title back on the August 11 edition of SmackDown. The storyline had been that then-champion Austin Theory attacked Escobar before the match, injuring his knee. It was eventually determined that Escobar could not wrestle, but WWE official Adam Pearce instead accepted Mysterio’s offer to wrestle in Escobar’s place. Mysterio then went on to defeat Theory.

After the two agreed to a match, Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits came out. After some back and forth, it turned into a match where The Street Profits defeated LWO members Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro in a tag team match that ended under a minute.

Rey Mysterio wins United States title on WWE SmackDown

Rey Mysterio is the new United States Champion.

Mysterio ended Austin Theory’s long run with the title on Friday’s SmackDown after hitting a 619 to the back of Theory, then connected with a second 619 for the win. This ends Theory’s run with the title after 258 days, having defeated Seth Rollins in a match that also featured Bobby Lashley at last year’s Survivor Series. After the match, Mysterio celebrated with the rest of the LWO as pyro went off.

Santos Escobar had won the United States Title Invitational tournament two weeks ago, defeating Mysterio in the finals to set up a match between himself and Theory for this week’s show. In a show-long storyline, Theory attacked Escobar’s leg as Escobar was being interviewed. Although doctors cleared Escobar, another attack by Theory as Escobar was making his way to the ring prevented him from wrestling. WWE official Adam Pearce told Theory he would still defend the title tonight, but it would be against Mysterio.

This is Rey Mysterio’s third run with the United States championship, having last won it in 2019.

Santos Escobar to challenge for WWE United States title

Santos Escobar will get a United States title match in two weeks.

Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio to become the next contender for Austin Theory’s United States title. The match will take place in two weeks on the August 11 edition of SmackDown.

The finish of Friday’s match had Escobar hitting Mysterio with a suicide dive during a commercial break, Mysterio’s head bouncing off the ground upon impact. Once SmackDown returned, it was shown that medical personnel were checking on Mysterio. The referee eventually decided to end the match and award the victory to Escobar. After the match. Mysterio and Escobar hugged. Theory, who was watching the match in a balcony, got up and posed with the United States title.

Two four-way matches have taken place in the last two weeks to determine the next United States title contender. Escobar defeated AJ Styles, Butch, and Grayson Waller to advance to tonight’s match, while Mysterio defeated Cameron Grimes, LA Knight, and Sheamus.

Santos Escobar advances to WWE United States title Invitational finals

Santos Escobar has advanced to the finals of the SmackDown United States Championship Invitational.

Escobar won the first four-way match on Friday’s SmackDown, defeating AJ Styles, Grayson Waller, and Butch. The finish of the match had Styles preparing to use the Styles Clash on Butch when footage was shown backstage of The OC being laid out by Karrion Kross and Scarlett. Styles exited the match as Santos Escobar managed to pick up the victory, pinning Waller.

Another four-way match will take place between LA Knight, Rey Mysterio, Cameron Grimes, and Sheamus on next week’s SmackDown. The winner of that match will then advance to the finals on the July 28 edition of SmackDown, where they will face Escobar.

Austin Theory, who was on commentary during Friday’s four-way match, has held the WWE United States title since November 26. His last title defense was on the July 7 edition of SmackDown, where he defeated Sheamus to retain the title. 

United States title match set for WWE Raw 30th anniversary

Bobby Lashley will get a chance at Austin Theory next week on the 30th anniversary edition of Raw.

In the main event of Monday’s Raw, Bobby Lashley defeated Seth Rollins in a six-man elimination match to become the new number one contender for the United States title. The show closed with Theory, who had been at ringside, holding the United States title as Lashley stared him down.

MVP and Omos came to ringside towards the finish of the match. Theory struck Lashley with the United States title, causing Omos to attack Theory. Rollins laid out Omos with a stomp on the announce table and threw Theory over the barricade. He went back to the ring and laid out MVP but then walked into a spear by Lashley.

Last week, MVP had attempted to reconcile with Lashley, pointing out that Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin had recently reunited. Lashley thus far has not been receptive to a Hurt Business reunion.

Brock Lesnar appearance, United States title match set for WWE Raw

A Brock Lesnar appearance and a United States title match have been announced for next week’s Raw.

During Friday’s SmackDown, it was announced that Lesnar would be appearing on Monday’s Raw, which will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A United States championship match was also announced, with Seth Rollins defending against Matt Riddle.

Lesnar appeared on WWE television for the first time since SummerSlam on this Monday’s Raw, attacking Bobby Lashley with two F5’s and a kimura. Despite being attacked, Lashley insisted on defending the United States title, ultimately losing to Rollins. Lashley made it clear later in a backstage interview that he wanted Lesnar and challenged him to return next Monday.

Riddle and Rollins have been feuding throughout the fall, with Rollins defending Riddle at Clash at the Castle last month. However, Riddle defeated Rollins at Extreme Rules in a Fight Pit match, with Daniel Cormier serving as the special guest referee.

Seth Rollins wins United States title on WWE Raw

Seth Rollins is the new United States Champion.

Rollins defeated Lashley on Monday’s Raw, scoring the victory thanks to an attack from Brock Lesnar prior to the match. Although Lashley was able to get a spear in, Rollins scored the victory after hitting two curb stomps. This is his second reign with the championship, previously winning the championship back in August of 2015.

Prior to the match, Bobby Lashley cut a promo saying that he was a fighting champion. This brought out Brock Lesnar, who quickly took out Lashley with an F5. He then gave Lashley another F5, and at one point locked in the kimura. Following a commercial break, Lashley was being helped to the back when Rollins called him out for not being a fighting champion, saying he was a disgrace to the title and his country. Lashley returned to the ring and agreed to the match.

The title match was made last week after Rollins attacked both Bobby Lashley and Mustafa Ali after Lashley had defeated Ali in a match. 

United States title steel cage match set for WWE Raw

A title match is set for the Clash at the Castle fallout edition of WWE Raw.

Bobby Lashley will defend his United States Championship against The Miz in a steel cage match on Raw this Monday. Lashley and Miz also faced off on Raw earlier this week, with Lashley defeating Miz in a non-title match.

The steel cage match between Lashley and Miz was set up by a challenge that Miz issued. Miz posted a video on social media saying that he would have defeated Lashley last Monday if it wasn’t for Dexter Lumis. Miz said he wants to make the United States Championship relevant, wants the title to be represented on every PPV, and wants it to be represented bigger than any other title in WWE.

Lashley then responded to Miz and accepted the challenge. Lashley said the way for the US title to gain respect, honor, and credibility is staying out of the hands of people like Miz. Lashley promised to make an example out of Miz in their steel cage match.

Miz lost to Lashley last Monday after being distracted by Lumis appearing in the crowd. The previous week, there was an angle where Miz was kidnapped by Lumis.

Monday’s Raw is being held at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
