Samoa Joe vs. Nick Wayne rescheduled for AEW Collision

A match originally set to take place this past Wednesday is now official for this Saturday’s Homecoming edition of AEW Collision as Samoa Joe will face Nick Wayne.

Travel issues due to winter weather postponed the bout.

The former AEW World Champion made his surprise return on last week’s Dynamite to aid Hook against Christian Cage’s Patriarchy crew.

Joe hasn’t wrestled or appeared on AEW since last July when he lost to Chris Jericho in a street fight and was taken out backstage by a forklift driven through a wall by Jericho. It was a storyline to cover for Joe heading off to film season two of Twisted Metal for Peacock. Wayne is coming off a defeat to Hook on a late-December Rampage.

Here’s the current lineup for Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida:

  • Mariah May & Toni Storm meet face-to-face
  • Big Bill vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
  • Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker vs. Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong)
  • Buddy Matthews & Brody King vs. The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)
  • AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defends against Katsuyori Shibata
  • Samoa Joe vs. Nick Wayne

Samoa Joe vs. Nick Wayne AEW Dynamite match postponed due to travel issues

Samoa Joe’s highly-anticipated return to the ring Wednesday had to be postponed due to travel issues.

After making his surprise return on last Wednesday’s Dynamite to aid Hook against Christian Cage’s Patriarchy crew, Joe was set to take on Nick Wayne in Knoxville, Tennessee.

However, AEW head Tony Khan tweeted an hour before the show that the match had to be postponed due to winter weather causing flight cancellations but that it would be rescheduled. However, it was not announced for either this Saturday’s Collision from Jacksonville, Florida, or next Wednesday’s Dynamite from Huntsville, Alabama, as of this writing.

None of The Patriarchy members or Joe appeared on Wednesday’s show.

Joe hasn’t wrestled since last July when he lost to Chris Jericho in a street fight and was taken out backstage by a forklift driven through a wall by Jericho. It was a storyline to cover for Joe heading off to film season two of Twisted Metal for Peacock. Wayne is coming off a defeat to Hook on a late-December Rampage.

AEW announces Hook vs. Nick Wayne for Hammerstein Ballroom

A match has been announced for AEW’s debut at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

During AEW Rampage on Saturday, it was announced that Hook would be taking on Nick Wayne. It wasn’t made clear if the match would take place on Collision or Dynamite, as both shows will be taped at the venue on December 21 and 22 respectively.

In an interview, Wayne said that he didn’t appreciate Hook attacking him from behind and that is why he begged his father Christian Cage to let him have a match against Hook in his hometown. He promised to show everyone what the real future of professional wrestling looked like.

Recent weeks have had Hook look for the culprits behind the attack on his father, Taz. Christian Cage eventually revealed himself as the person behind the attack, saying that he needed to take out Taz as he wanted someone like Hook as a part of The Patriarchy. Since then, Hook has targeted Patriarchy members, including Wayne, in an effort to gain revenge.

Nick Wayne vs. AR Fox official for next AEW Collision

A new match has been added to next week’s Collision.

Nick Wayne will meet AR Fox after the two had a confrontation on this week’s show. Fox was interrupted by Wayne during a promo, asking how long it had been since Fox attacked him at his wrestling school. He said his father, Christian Cage, taught him to hold a grudge and hadn’t forgiven him for the attack last year. Wayne said he had changed and wasn’t the same boy he was last year, pointing out the recent attack on Hook by the Patriarchy. Fox said he didn’t know anything about Hook, but said he’d see Wayne next week on Collision.

In an angle that took place last August, Swerve and the Mogul Embassay (which included AR Fox at the time) attacked Wayne at his home and left him a bloody mess. Fox was removed from the group shortly after, however, and Wayne’s then mentor Darby Allin and Sting defeated Strickland and Christian Cage at All In in a coffin match.

It was announced later in the show that the Full Gear 4-Way Contender’s Series would begin next week on Collision. The Outrunners will face Top Flight, with the winners advancing to a four-way AEW Tag Team title match at Full Gear.

Here is the updated lineup for next week’s Collision:

  • Nick Wayne vs. AR Fox
  • AEW Full Gear 4-Way Contender’s Series: The Outrunners vs. Top Flight

AEW Rampage live results: Ricochet vs. Nick Wayne

Four matches will highlight Friday’s AEW Rampage from Salt Lake City, Utah.

The next contender for Mariah May’s AEW Women’s World Championship will be in action as Anna Jay faces Leila Grey. Jay earned a title shot on last weekend’s Battle of the Belts event by pinning May.

The Beast Mortos vs. Beef in a hoss battle rounds out the card.

This week’s Rampage was taped Wednesday night, October 23 in Salt Lake City, Utah at Maverik Center. Spoilers from the show are available here.

Taped in Salt Lake City, Utah, home to the world’s largest Costco.

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone & Matt Menard were on commentary.

Undisputed Kingdom defeated Shane Taylor Promotions and  Gates of Agony in a three way match (8:54)

Roderick Strong joined the commentary team for the opener.

Matt Taven and Lee Morairty had a good sequence on the mat to start that was punctuated by a dropkick from Taven. Bishop Kaun got the tag and overpowered both members of the Kingdom.  Kaun floored Taven with a lariat and followed up with a standing moonsault for a near fall. The Gates of Agony double teamed Taven in their corner. Taven side stepped a charge from Kaun, hit Toa Leona with an enziguri, and got the tag to Bennett. Bennett superkicked Leona into a tag from Shane Taylor, and Taylor took Bennett down with a hanging tree slam for a near fall. Bennett fired back with chops on Taylor, but Taylor floored him with a lariat. Bennett and Moriarty ganged up on Bennett in their corner.

Taylor and Moriarty worked over Bennett during the split-screen break. Taven got the tag and took out all four of his opponents. Taven hit Moriarty with a Stinger Splash, then sent Moriarty into a death valley driver from Bennett. Taven followed through with a sliding knee strike for a near fall. Taylor floored Taven with a knee strike, and Kaun took Taylor down with a Samoan Drop. Leona gave both Moriarty and Bennett a Samoan Drop at once. Kaun and Leona gave Moriarty a double-team slam. The Gates of Agony got dumped to the floor and Taven dove in with an elbow on Moriarty to get a pinfall.

– Renee Paquette interviewed Beef about Anthony Henry, his second cousin by marriage, his reluctant corner man who is injured. JD Drake showed up to promise to be in Beef’s corner tonight. There is some kind of ROH angle (I guess?) between Henry, Drake and Beef but I have no idea about that so this whole thing felt out of place.

– Paquette brought the Undisputed Era and The Beast Mortos together for Strong to try and recruit Mortos for the Undisputed Era.

Anna Jay defeated  Leila Grey (3:12)

Jay started out with some solid stuff on the mat. Grey came back with a sloppy blockbuster and a slight better bulldog. Jay did some okay selling here. Jay reversed Grey’s suplex attempt. Jay caught Grey with a flying forearm. Jay pulled Grey off the middle ropes with a cross arm slam, hit a shotgun dropkick. Jay hit the Gory bomb for the pinfall. Jay is wrestling with a lot more confidence.

After the match, Deonna Purrazzo and Tyra Valkyrie were shown watching from the back.

Jay White v. Shane Taylor & Anna Jay v. Viva Van were announced for  Collision tomorrow night.

– A recap of Dynamite.

The Beast Mortos (w/ Rush  and Dralistico)  defeated  Beef (w/ JD Drake) (8:27 aired)

Mortos dropped Beef with a back suplex. Mortos hit a knee strike for a near fall. Beef rolled out of the way of a senton. Both guys fought for a suplex until Mortos dropped  Beef with a headbutt.

After a commercial break, Beef escaped a back suplex and caught Mortos with a crossbody. Beef took Mortos down with a bulldog for a near fall. Mortos hit a pop up fallaway slam for a near fall. Mortos came off the top with a twisting senton for another near fall. Beef caught Mortos with an enziguri. Beef followed up with a crossbody into the ropes. Beef went to the top for his finish, but Rush tripped him up.  Mortos dropped Beef with a piledriver variation and got the pinfall.

After the match, LFI beat up Beef and choked him with an extension cord. JD Drake watched from the outside. Rush jumped Drake from the outside and choked him out, too.

– Renee Paquette interviewed Harley Cameron. Cameron was her fantastically charming self, promising that whatever Thunder Rosa can do, she can… also do.

– Fright Night Dynamite preview.

Ricochet defeated Nick Wayne (13:14)

Lots of stalling to start. When they finally engaged, Ricochet worked a side headlock for a couple of near falls. Ricochet took Wayne down with a head scissors and a dropkick. Wayne avoided a moonsault off the apron on the floor. A distraction from Mother Wayne allowed Nick to catch Ricochet with a boot. Nick then dumped Ricochet into the crowd.

After a split-screen break, Ricochet started to mount his comeback. Ricochet hit a gamengiri, then took Wayne down with a twisting tope on the floor. Back in the ring, Ricochet hit a springboard crossbody and a standing shooting star press for a near fall.

Ricochet went to the top, but Mother Wayne distracted him and Nick Wayne raked his eyes. Ricochet sent Wayne down with a headbutt. Ricochet missed a 450 (landed on his feet), but Wayne caught Ricochet with a stunner for a near fall. Wayne hit a full nelson suplex with a bridge for a near fall. Wayne went for Wayne’s World, but Ricochet blocked it. Ricochet hit a high kick and a deadlift German suplex for a near fall. Ricochet and Wayne exchanged kicks. Ricochet hit a half and half suplex. Ricochet dove into a cutter, and Wayne nailed a double underhook destroyer for a near fall.

Wayne set Ricochet up again for the Wayne’s World, but Ricochet avoided it and floored Wayne with a knee. Ricochet delivered a Vertigo driver, then finished Wayne off with his own version of the Hidden Blade for the pinfall. That was tremendous.

After the match, Kenosuke Takeshita came out to the entrance stage to taunt Ricochet with his International Title belt.

During the main event, Ricochet v. Lio Rush and The Outrunners vs. MxM Collection were also announced for Collision.

Ricochet vs. Nick Wayne part of four-match AEW Rampage lineup

Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena vs. Lady Frost, Nick Wayne in action

Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will look to keep her impressive multi-year winning streak going as she faces Lady Frost in non-title action on tonight’s HonorClub show.

The bout will be a Proving Ground match where if Frost can defeat or draw the champion, she earns a future title shot. Athena has held the title since December 2022’s Final Battle.

For the first time since September 2023, Nick Wayne will return to the red and black brand as he faces Bryan Hook.

In other women’s action, past AEW Women’s World title challenger Yuka Sakazaki will face Viva Van.

The show will also feature two tag team matches as Angelico & Serpentico face Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones while MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) takes on Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson).

**********

Little was said to promote tonight’s episode 86 but that didn’t stop the show from kicking off in style, with a very poetic promo from the ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe.

Briscoe survived his match with Chris Jericho at WrestleDream and as long as Jericho runs down the Briscoe name and family, Mark promises to fight him anytime, anywhere.

Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones

Dillinger and Jones made their debut both as a team and in ROH tonight. Angelico and Serpentico have been picking up wins over the likes of The Infantry and the Iron Savages over the summer. They also managed to get Serpentico’s mask back from Maria Kanellis and her goons, but that was behind them now as they looked to position themselves for a shot at the ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara.

Dillinger and Jones were definitely beefier than the laid-back SAP, but the agility of Angelico was on full display as he started off against Jones. Angelico practically danced around Jones before locking in an arm lock and tagging in Serpentico for a double stomp from the top rope on said arm. Dillinger tried to get involved, but like so many bulls in so many china shops, he ran right into the SAP’s fluid and cohesive offense.

Dillinger hopped in and spent some time throwing Serpentico around. The luchadore was not prepared for the brawling style of Dillinger and it looked for a few minutes like an upset was imminent. However, Jones and Angelico got involved andSerpentico locked Jones ina grapevine ankle lock and Serpentico got Dillinger in a tandem cobra stretch to draw out a double submission and a win for SAP.

Rachael Ellering was interviewed in the back.

Ellering promised to step up in ROH and was interrupted by Harley Cameron. Cameron felt that she and Ellering got off on the wrong foot. The two traded passive aggressive insults for a moment until Cameron pulled her in for a hug, starting their “friendship” off right.

Yuka Sakazaki defeated Viva Van

Sakazaki, still hurting from a failed attempt to capture the AEW Women’s World Title from Mariah May at Grand Slam in September, was looking to take it out on Van. Van for her part was still looking for her first singles win in ROH, but had her work cut out for her.

Sakazaki’s entrance music was the real winner as the hardcore J-Pop filled the arena. Whent he match started, Van tried to keep the match pace slow to take away Sakazaki’s sped, but she didn’t count on the agility of the smaller woman, who wormed out of everything thrown at her.

Van went to the top for a springboard attempt, but Sakazaki knocked her from the ropes and stomped around the ring before landing a high knee in the corner. A missile dropkick from the top rope knocked Van senseless, but she managed to kick out at two.

The two played back and forth, trying pinning combinations and wriggling out of them. Van looked pretty impressive against the Joshi star, but in the end Sakazaki hit a Magic Girl Splash from the middle of the top rope and got the pin.

Footage of the Brian Cage vs Atlantis Jr. match from WrestleDream was shown next.

Cage ended up the winner of that match and became the new ROH TV Champion. He cut a promo afterwards, saying things are going to change in ROH now that someone of his caliber has the TV Title. He talked a lot about cliffs, and being pushed off them, but it didn’t make much sense. The gist of it was that the “Age of Cage” is upon us.

Nick Wayne (w/ Mother Wayne) defeated Brian Cook

This is only Wayne’s second match in ROH, losing to then-ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata way back in the dark vestiges of 2023. Following along form The Patriarchy was Mother Wayne. Cook for his part had a cup of coffee with AEW last year, but hasn’t been seen much since, spending most of his time in Defy.

Things started off fast though. Cook caught Wayne on his heels and managed to land a series of quick dropkicks that actually busted Wayne’s lip open. Wayne powered back though, using the skills taught to him by Christian Cage of the Patriarchy. Or so they say.

After that, Wayne dominated the match. Single arm DDT’s, dropkicks and not an insignificant amount of mugging for the camera kept Cook on the mat for the most part. He got a few quick rollup attempts in, and a really cool twisting DDT, but in the end, Wayne hit a jumping cutter and put Cook down for good to get the win.

MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) defeated Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson)

So, Midnight Heat. Disturbing name, pretty good cred on the indies. Their last match around these parts was on a springtime episode of Dynamite where they lost to the Dark Order. MxM Collection came out of the gate on a hot streak (they even competed for the INTERGALACTIC Tag Team Championships in Hoodslam Wrestling) but seem to have cooled a little after traveling the Dynamite/Collision/ROH highway.

To begin, “Tips of honor” were touched and poses were, uh, posed. Mansoor started off against Gibson, who despite my hope every time I saw or heard his name, was NOT 60 years old like another Gibson. As far as the match goes though, Gibson held his own against Mansoor. Pearl tagged in, but that just brought in Madden, who towered over him. At one point, he picked up Pearl with one arm for a leg drop slam.

MxM had this thing in the bag from the start. It was really just a series of poses and comedy bits with a little bit of wresting in between. This does not in any way mean it was a bad match, but it was a predictable one. MxM controlled everything and a sit out choke slam from Madden set up Pearl for the Centerfold and a pin.

AR Fox defeated Jack Cartwheel

Hometown hero Cartwheel came down to the ring doing round outs. No, he was doing cartwheels and in Dusty Rhodes’ old coat no less. Fox was a little more subdued (for Fox) as he used this as a warmup for an upcoming match with Ricochet coming up on Collision.

The two locked up and Cartwheel looked absolutely ripped. He was about 6 inches shorter that Fox, but all muscle. Couple that with his speed and Cartwheel had Fox backtracking. Fox, looking pretty good himself, tried more of a brawler approach, but Cartwheel was able to work around that until Fox hit him on the outside with a massive dive.

Fox tried a rolling senton on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring) but Cartwheel avoided it, causing Fox to land right on his back. He was ok though, as evidenced by the jumping neckbreaker he delivered to Cartwheel moments later.

The two hammered on each other in a relatively even affair until Fox went to the top rope for… something, and Cartwheel sent him to the mat. Fox jumped up for a 450 splash and managed to keep Cartwheel on the ground long enough to get the pin.

Atlantis Jr. defeated Jon Cruz

Cruz was pretty excited to see his name up on the big screen as he entered. Atlantis Jr, fresh off losing the ROH TV Title to Brian Cage, was a little more subdued, but still carried that Luchadore flair. He had the size advantage on Cruz, but Cruz has the veteran reps to surprise.

Atlanis struck first, catching Cruz with a big kick and spinning backbreaker. Atlantis set up Cruz in the corner and tried to feed him kicks, but Cruz squirmed out and began pounding on Atlantis, counting blows in Spanish. He then bit Atlantis on the mask for some reason.

Cruz got a little cocky, trying out a standing cover, but Atlantis wasn’t going down like that. Atlantis hit a pop up cutter followed by a big frog splash and got the win.

Komander defeated Willie Mack to earn an ROH TV title match

Mack is calling himself “The Chocolate Juggalo” these days and that’s… well, that’s something. Komander brought along his hype man and the two set up for what promised to be a really fun clash of styles. Mack, a notorious brawler against the luchadore stylings of Komander. Also, the winner of the match will get a future ROH TV title shot.

Mack appeared to be twice the size of Komander, but had trouble keeping up with him. When the two did connect, Komander definitely got the bummer end of it, being hit so hard he flipped over. A couple of times.

Speed wasn’t an issue though, as Mack is unearthly fast and agile for a man of his size. Komander didn’t have much to fight back with, but he was able to take a lot of what Mack was dishing out to keep the match going. Right up until the nipple twists. Mack twisted Komander’s nipples and it was as awkward as it sounds.

Komander got a bunch of offense in on Mack, including a big dive over the ropes to the outside. He tossed Mack back in the ring and ran the ropes for a shooting star press to get the victory over the bigger man and become the new #1 Contender for the ROH TV Title.

Jericho Responds to ROH Champion Mark Briscoe

Chris Jericho cut a promo next, claiming that Mark Briscoe cheated to win their match at Wrestledream. He wants a rematch and to become the 2-time ROH Champion, just like Jay Briscoe. They cut to Mark right away, and he accepted the rematch, but it will be a more violent affair next week on Dynamite when Jericho and Briscoe have a LADDER WAR for the ROH Championship.

ROH CLASSIC MATCH: The Briscoes vs. SoCal Uncensored vs. The Young Bucks (Ladder War for the ROH Tag Team Championships, ROH Final Battle 2018, NYC)

Speaking of Ladder War, how about a classic one featuring the Briscoes and current AEW EVP’s Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, as well as then ROH Tag Champs Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian. There was a lot to love about this match, but honestly it was just a joy reliving Jay and Mark Briscoe doing the tag team work they did so well. Their opponents couldn’t be better, but it was seeing Jay do his thing that was really exciting. He is really, really missed.

As with most of the classic matches, I won’t get into who won what, but this was a wild and violent match. At times it was impossible to know who was winning as bodies were flying everywhere. Chairs, tables and of course, ladders, were used as weapons by anyone and everyone. The Briscoes had a bit of advantage in that they were used to hardcore, violent matches at this point. But the Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored hung in there, giving as good as they got.

To get ready for the Briscoe/Jericho Ladder War coming up on Dynamite, this was an excellent taste of what it could look like. I highly suggest checking it out on HonorClub or elsewhere.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena (w/ Lexy Nair) defeated Lady Frost in a Proving Ground match

Lady Frost has been having a rough time in ROH lately. She’s lost an ROH Women’s World TV Title Proving Ground match, been eliminated from the AEW Women’s World Title, uh, Eliminator tournament and now she has to face a very cranky Athena. For her part, Athena has been stressed out lately by what she sees as a failing Minion in Billie Starkz, and being stalked by Abadon. If Frost could last ten minutes or pin the champion, she’d be guaranteed a future title shot.

Athena arrived still chained to Lexy Nair, with no Billie Starkz in sight. Last week, Athena chained herself to Nair to avoid Abadon. I don’t know exactly how this was supposed to work, but go with it. For the match, she unchained herself and for some reason locked Lexy to the ringpost? The only thing I could think of was Athena was setting Lexy up to be bait for Abadon, not unlike Wyle E. Coyote attempting to trap the Roadrunner.

With all that out of the way, the match started and the two women tangled up and wrestled from post to post. Athena ended up with the better of it, but Frost responded with a hurricanrana off the ropes. Anything Athena threw at Frost, she had an answer for, but Athena only needed to keep the match going until the 10 minute time limit to win.

Frost was nearly counted out after some interference from Lexy on the outside. That gave Athena the momentum, but the champion was clearly distracted by the thought of Abadon lurking nearby. It caused her to miss a senton and give Frost an opening. She went high, but Athena countered.

Athena manged to land a big slam from the top rope and lock in her crossface submission. Frost tried to fight out of it, but Athena only wrenched down harder, causing Frost to tap out.

Athena re-cuffed herself to Lexy and started beating up Frost. Suddenly, Abadon’s music hit and Athena a Lexy turned tail and ran as fast as they could to the exit as the show came to a close.

AEW Rampage live results: Lio Rush vs. Rocky Romero vs. Kip Sabian vs. Nick Wayne

A four-way match is the featured bout on tonight’s AEW Rampage as Lio Rush, Rocky Romero, Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne will square off.

Sabian has been trailing The Patriarchy in recent weeks which has raised the ire of Christian Cage and Wayne.

In a non-title match, ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe of The Conglomeration will also be in action against Bryan Keith of Chris Jericho’s Learning Tree faction.

After being challenged to defend the AEW Trios titles at Grand Slam by his teammates Claudio Castagnoli & PAC, Wheeler Yuta will face The Butcher.

After challenging her backstage in a social media segment, former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida will face Harley Cameron. It’s Shida’s first match since losing to TBS Champion Mercedes Mone at this month’s All Out.

Roderick Strong of The Undisputed Kingdom will team with The Beast Mortos against enhancement talents Joe Keys & Marcus Mathers. Strong and Mortos will be part of a ten-man tag team match on Saturday’s Collision.

**********

Taped in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Excalibur, Ian Riccaboni and Matt Menard were on commentary.

Mark Briscoe defeated Bryan Keith (12:21)

Briscoe is ROH World champion, but this was non-title. Briscoe sent Keith to the floor, hit Keith with a dropkick through the ropes, then dropped a Cactus Jack style elbow on the floor. Back in the ring for some hard chops and redneck kung-fu. Briscoe tossed a chair in the ring to use as a springboard for a plancha, but Keith cut him off. While Aubrey Edwards got rid of the steel chair, Keith hit a low blow behind her back to take control.

When Keith was offense, it was pretty uninspired. Keith chopped away at Briscoe on the floor, then hit a snap suplex on the floor.

Aftert a split-screen break, Keith cut off a comeback from Briscoe with a boot and a headbutt. Keith went for Diamond Dust, but Briscoe countered with a face rake. Briscoe hit a top rope superplex. Kieth and Briscoe exchanged forearms mid-ring, then exchanged chops around the ring. Briscoe hit a flying forearm, but Keith came back with an enziguri. Briscoe came back with one of his own, then hit an exploder suplex. But Keith came back with an exploder suplex of his own!

Briscoe charged into a boot from Keith, but caught him with a death valley driver. Briscoe missed the froggy bow, and Keith hit a knee strike out of a tiger driver attempt for another near fall. Keith went for the Diamond Dust again, but Briscoe hit a pair of lariats to counter, then hit the Jay Driller to get the pinfall. Great opener for Rampage.

Before Briscoe could celebrate his victory, Chris Jericho ran in and attacked Briscoe with a bat. Orange Cassidy, Big Bill and Kyle O’Reilly all ran in, with Big Bill dominating O’Reilly and Cassidy.

Wheeler Yuta defeated The Butcher (4:02)

Butcher jumped a disinterested Yuta before the bell and dropped him with a backbreaker. On the floor, Butcher dropped Yuta against the ring barricade and clotheslined him against the ring apron. Back in the ring, Butcher hit a pair of short-arm lariats. Yuta tried for a German suplex, but got a back elbow. A couple of slaps woke up Yuta, who fired up with a shotgun dropkick and mauled Butcher in the corner with forearms and chops. Yuta took Butcher down with a high angle slam and rolling German suplexes. After the hammer and anvil elbows, Yuta locked in the Cattle Mutiliation and got the submission. Yuta held on the hold until well after the bell, and almost attacked the ref after the match. Yuta is playing up this new conflicted character great.

– The MXM Collection have stolen Max Caster’s “Best Wrestler Alive” jacket! And they’re planning to give it makeover.

Hikaru Shida v. Harley Cameron (w/ Saraya) (7:04 aired)

Two and half minutes of almost every women’s match on Rampage takes place during the picture in picture break, usually after the first two minutes of action. Then there’s a full commerical (no split screen) before the show starts back up again with the babyface making her comeback. The point of this is to say that off the seven minutes they gave the match, really only the last three mattered.

After the commercial, Shida hit a kneestrike for a near fall. Shida went for the Falcon Arrow, but Saraya distracted her and Cameron hit a blind side kick for a near fall. Cameron avoided an enziguri and exchanged pin attempts with Shida. Cameron went for a knee strike, but Shida blocked it and hit a question mark kick. Saraya distracted Shida again, and Cameron hit another knee strike for a near fall. Saraya grabbed Shida’s kendo stick to use as a weapon, but Jamie Hayter (still being dressed by Disco Inferno) ran out to chase Saraya away. Saraya hit the Falcon Arrow to get the pinfall.

After the match, Saraya challenged Jamie Hayter for Grand Slam in a “Saraya’s Rules” match, which Hayter accepts.

The Beast Mortos & Roderick Strong (w/ Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Joe Keys & Marcus Mathers (1:24)

Strong hit one of the Mathers with a knee strike and Mortos dropped Keys with a pop-up Samoan Drop and they got stereo pinfalls.

– Darby Allin v. Evil Uno and Mariah May v. Lady Frost has been added to tomorrow night’s Collision line up.

– Deonna Purrazzo has some wine and finds a friend in Taya Valkyrie.

Nick Wayne pinned Rockey Romero to win a four way match that also included Lio Rush (w/ Action Andretti) and Kip Sabian

Sabian tripped of Rush and hit an Arabian Press on Wayne and Romero on the floor. Rush caught Sabian with a back kick then took him out with a plancha. Rush tricked Romero into a rollup for a near fall. Sabian caught Romero with an enziguri and Rush with a knee strike. Nick Wayne then crotches Sabian on the ringpost.

Wayne hit a snap suplex on Romero and taunted the crowd. Wayne backdroped Rush and hit him with a kick while the rest of the Patriarchy looked on approvingly from the back.

Wayne dominated through the split-screen break. Rush faked Wayne out and caught him with a Spanish Fly for a near fall. Sabian sprung in with a dropkcik on Rush, then followed up with a cannonball. Romero hit a Northern Lights suplex on Sabian, then hit forever clotheslines on all his opponents in the corners. Romero hit the Sliced Bread on Rush for a near fall.

Wayne and Sabian dumped the other two the floor so they could have the ring for themselves. Wayne went for the Wayne’s World, but Sabian blocked it and hit a half-and-half suplex. Romero and Rush got back into it, and Rush went for a frog splash on Romero, but instead caught a cutter from Wayne.

Sabian went for a Burning Hammer on Wayne, but Wayne made the ropes. Sabian hit Romero with a Burning Hammer, but Wayne dumped Sabian to the floor, and then Wayne covered Romero to get the victory.

AEW Dynamite live results: Swerve Strickland vs. Nick Wayne

The AEW World Champion will be in action on the final episode before Sunday’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Excalibur then welcomes us alongside Tony Schiavone, Taz & Don Callis, who is taking notes as Orange Cassidy makes his entrance for the opening contest. He referred to Cassidy & Will Ospreay as “both of his guys.”

International Champion Roderick Strong & Trent Beretta (w/Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Orange Cassidy & Will Ospreay

(A fun appetizer of two singles matches on Sunday’s card, as they did a good job of not really having Beretta & Cassidy and Ospreay & Strong doing a ton together, not giving away what could happen on Sunday. With the heels standing tall tonight, I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if this means a new International Champ is on tap in Vegas. Also, Callis trying to pair himself with Cassidy continues to be weird and it’s only a matter of time before Beretta is the one to join the Family it seems.)

Fast offense from Cassidy & Ospreay early, who traded dives outside to gain the advantage. That was short lived, as Mike Bennett tried throwing in the ROH Tag Title, but Ospreay kicked it out of the ring, allowing Strong to hit a backbreaker and take over. Strong & Beretta kept Ospreay grounded until a big back drop created space for Ospreay, as Cassidy made the hot tag and ran wild. Beretta crotched Cassidy in the ropes, allowing Strong to his a gut buster against the buckle. Beretta tried to piledrive Cassidy on the steps like last week, but Ospreay made the save. The match broke down outside, with Beretta laying out Ospreay with a spear, which took things to break.

When things returned, there was a double down between Strong & Cassidy, who nudged his way to his corner, hands in pockets and tagged Ospreay, who was on fire. Beretta’s Tornado DDT was blocked, but not the half and half suplex, which flattened Ospreay. Strong tagged in and nearly got rolled up for two, but Strong recovered with a series of forearms and pancake for two. Strong got trapped in the corner and ate a Cheeky Nandos kick, followed by a Sky Twister Press off the second, while Cassidy fell comically from the top rope onto Strong. Beretta put a stop to the momentum, leading to an attempted release superplex, but Ospreay landed on his feet, allowing Cassidy to fly in with a top rope DDT. Wall walk enzugiri on Strong by Ospreay, as Cassidy followed with a spinning DDT for two.

Beretta ran distraction for the ref, trying to untie the top turnbuckle, as Strong fired off a Sick Kick on Cassidy. Don Callis left commentary and grabbed Cassidy’s leg, allowing him to avoid the End of Heartache. Cassidy hit a Stundog Millionaire, while Ospreay hit the Oscutter, as Bennett & Taven tried to jump in, but were sent outside. Strong kept the ref’s attention, as Ospreay wiped out The Kingdom with a dive, but Wardlow ran down and mowed him over. Beretta hit a knee strike on Cassidy, while Strong connected on an End of Heartache to pin Cassidy.

Post match, The Undisputed Kingdom swarmed Ospreay, while Beretta beat down Cassidy on the ramp. Strong decked Ospreay with the International Title, while Beretta ran off Callis before choking out Cassidy. Strong held the International Title at the face of a busted opened Ospreay, as one more End of Heartache for good measure sent a message from the International Champion.

-The Young Bucks are backstage with Elite Security and held up a sign that said Darby Allin was barred from the building this week to ensure safety of the locker room. Sonjay Dutt walks in and congratulates The Bucks on taking care of their problems lately. Matthew told Dutt if Satnam Singh beats Bryan Danielson tonight, cool, but if he hurts him, even better. Dutt said Singh will break Danielson like a pencil, laughing manically before walking off.

-The Bang Bang Gang made their entrance and literally have a wagon now to push all their titles. Excalibur points out the obvious, which is the AEW & ROH Trios Titles are unified, there’s no reason to have all these titles. Taz interjects and says, then what would they do with the wagon?

Switchblade Jay White has a roll call with himself, Fully Cocked Colten Gunn…and Austin before running down PAC, who was left laying last week at the feet of The Bang Bang Gang. White said PAC made a series of mistakes in recent weeks, sticking his nose in their business where it doesn’t belong. PAC then appears on the big screen and said they’ve wound him up a little bit. 3 on 1 isn’t exactly fair, so PAC introduces his amigos. The lights went out and we get the full Death Triangle entrance on the stage, as Penta el Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix appear with PAC before hitting the ring for an all-out brawl. The Bang Bang Gang get beaten down and retreat as PAC issued the challenge for Double or Nothing.

Chris Jericho & Big Bill give thumbs up and finger guns to the crowd before Jericho joins commentary for the upcoming contest.

HOOK & Katsuyori Shibata defeated Bryan Keith in a FTW Title Eliminator

(Well, we now know why Keith randomly got a qualifying match last week on Collision. This whole thing was pretty ridiculous if I’m being honest. Not only did a majority of this happen during commercial, Keith tapping to both men left the crowd simply confused. They wanted HOOK & Shibata to continue wrestling, but instead got Jericho just accepting he’ll have a triple threat at Double or Nothing. They’re going to have to do something else before Sunday, maybe on Collision or Rampage, because this didn’t make me that interested in the FTW Title match.)

Keith wasted no time leveling HOOK with a big boot at the bell, as HOOK quickly fought back, trying REDRUM, but Shibata broke it up. Everyone traded T-Bone suplexes until Shibata fired off a STO on HOOK, as things went to commercial literally 30 seconds into the match.

Keith delivered a double underhook powerbomb on HOOK for two as things returned, but Shibata made the save. HOOK connected with a T-Bone on Shibata, as Keith was briefly trapped in REDRUM in the ropes, but Keith escaped with an uppercut headbutt. Keith connected on Diamond Dust, but Shibata ran in with a PK and fireman’s carry neckbreaker until a figure four was sank in. HOOK applied REDRUM at the same time on Keith, who tapped out and referee Rick Knox declared both HOOK & Shibata co-winners.

The crowd chanted “Let Them Fight” as Jericho took the microphone and agreed, cackling and saying this makes his job more difficult at Double or Nothing before laughing more. Jericho warns them as the longest running For The World Champion, he’s just getting started, as he stumbled over his words saying it’s a first ever For The World Rules Triple Threat. Tony Schiavone said Tony Khan texted him that the match was official for the PPV. HOOK & Shibata just walked to the back together while Jericho & Bill waved to the crowd.

-An excellent video package documenting the history of Willow Nightingale & Mercedes Mone is shown ahead of their TBS Title match at Double or Nothing in Mone’s debut match in AEW.

-A commercial for The Young Bucks Reebok shoes is shown.

-A video package for Jon Moxley & Konosuke Takeshita at Double or Nothing is shown. Moxley said Takeshita started this game, but at the PPV, they’re going to finish it.

Konosuke Takeshita (w/Don Callis) defeated Matt Sydal

Excalibur talks about Sydal teaming with the Blackpool Combat Club at Arena Mexico a few months ago, as Takeshita wastes no time connecting with a sheer drop brainbuster. Sydal countered a Blue Thunder Bomb into a snap hurricanrana and DDT before going up top. Takeshita avoided a dive and hit a spinning Blue Thunder Bomb before Callis signaled to end things. Takeshita wound up and decked Sydal with a hard forearm to get the win. Post match, Takeshita acted like he was helping Sydal up, but pulled him into a release German suplex, putting the boots to him soon after.

Jon Moxley’s music hit, as the IWGP Champion walks to the ring with a microphone in hand. Moxley got in the ring and leveled Takeshita with the microphone, simply saying he’ll see Takeshita this Sunday before leaving through the crowd.

-The Young Bucks were again backstage handing out flyers saying that Darby Allin was banned before seeing Swerve Strickland sitting in their seat at the Gorilla position. Strickland took a flyer and crumpled it up before telling them to hit his music, as he’s up next. Strickland said he hadn’t seen Allin tonight, smirking and headed to the ring. During Strickland’s entrance, we see Allin flyers now posted around ringside as well.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defeated Nick Wayne

(I’m not sure why this match didn’t happen last week in Washington, but maybe they didn’t want to take the chance on Wayne getting cheered in his hometown area? Regardless, as much as I wanted this to be a long competitive match, that’s not what was necessary here before a PPV, Strickland needed to put Wayne away rather quickly and that’s exactly what happened. The bigger story was the return of Prince Nana, who made his allegiances very clear for anyone who might have questioned them when he returned.)

Wayne played cat and mouse early, but Strickland quickly caught him, slammed Wayne into the barricade, took his belt off and literally whipped his ass. It was all Strickland until Wayne was able to drive him head first into the metal part of the turnbuckle. Strickland went to the floor, ate a PK from the apron before Wayne tried a moonsault, was caught by Strickland, but Wayne countered the counter into a spinning DDT on the floor, which took things to commercial.

Back from break, Wayne sent Strickland to the floor and tried for another moonsault, but this time, Strickland was there to meet him and hit a back suplex on the edge of the ring. Strickland connected on a Swerve Stomp off the apron, as back inside, Wayne dares Strickland to put him away, but dodged a top rope Swerve Stomp with boots up into a rolling Code Red for two. Strickland avoided a House Call into a picture perfect powerbomb into a powerslam. Strickland apologized to Wayne before taking his head off with a House Call to get the win.

Post match, Killswitch appeared and attacked Strickland before Christian Cage & Mother Wayne came to the ring. Both checked on Nick, as Strickland was able to fight off and dispose of Killswitch with a low blow, leaving Cage alone with Strickland. The chase was on, as Strickland hit a House Call on Killswitch during the race, as Cage ran out of the arena to a car, which Cage carjacked. As Cage was about to drive away, a car pulls in front of him and Prince Nana is behind the wheel, sipping a coffee. Strickland catches up, putting Cage from the car and beating him down relentlessly. Cage scurried to the top of the car, but Strickland went up as well, hitting a DDT on the roof. Nana handed Strickland a chair and a Con-Chair-To was about to hit, when Cage bailed and ran away. Strickland & Nana reunited, as Taz said a message was clearly sent.

Malakai Black defeated Kyle O’Reilly

(If you love kickboxing and counter striking, have I got the match for you. This was fantastic and one I wish went longer. Of course Black had to win this, but the crowd was behind O’Reilly. Post match, the message was sent by Copeland for Double or Nothing in the form of a Bloodbath, which thankfully had better aim than when the New Blood failed to do it a bunch in WCW.)

Adam Copeland’s wedding ring, which Black stole last week, was shown on the mask of Black during his entrance. Both men traded a series of kicks in the early going, as commentary put over how each are trained in kickboxing, as it was O’Reilly who hit a knee strike to drop Black first. Both traded leg sweeps, as Black countered a kick and delivered one of his own before popping O’Reilly with a pump knee that sent him to the outside. From there, Black went to work on the knee throughout the entire commercial break.

When things returned, O’Reilly tried to throw his Nigel lariat, but Black dodged it. O’Reilly kneed his way out of a suplex and slammed Black down by the arm. The crowd got behind O’Reilly, who hit a snap German suplex, stomp and rolling elbow for two. O’Reilly kicked away at the arm before both traded strikes, as the battle only intensified as it went on. O’Reilly shot a takedown and an ankle lock applied, but Black stood up into a knee strike. That led to a brainbuster for a super close two. Both men rose to their feet and connected on dueling high kicks until Black pump faked a kick, O’Reilly bit, allowing Black to hit The End kick to win it.

Post match, the lights turned red and started to flicker before blood poured down from the top of the arena onto Black. On the big screen, Adam Copeland walked down steps in a suit jacket telling Malakai to be careful what he wishes for, see you soon, before laughing maniacally.

-A video package for the Anarchy in the Arena match is shown for Double or Nothing. Bryan Danielson is shown screaming that he has to fight for AEW because he loves this place. There was also footage of Collision last week of The Righteous & Lance Archer laying out FTR, who Danielson said won’t be at Dynamite this week. If The Elite want to take their shot, they better not miss because they won’t like the consequences.

AEW Women’s Champion Timeless Toni Storm & Mariah May (w/Luther) defeated Saraya & Harley Cameron (w/Zak Knight)

(The chemistry of Storm & May continues to grow and I really like the slow build to that storyline. On the other hand, how they’ve handled Deeb in this feud with Storm has been a complete miss. They tried making her a babyface this whole time, despite Storm being crazy over with the crowd and the last week before the PPV, they just finally give in and have Deeb be the heel and leave Storm laying after a violent assault. I think Storm is fantastic, but Deeb feels like another in a line of challengers that’s not gotten much out of a feud with the champ due to Storm’s character being so polarizing. They should have treated Deeb as the heel from the start.)

Storm is still wearing the Deeb’s Dojo flag she used for her striptease on Collision last week. Taz, meanwhile, is furious on commentary about how he was covered in the blood from that bloodbath in the previous segment, I don’t blame him. This is Saraya’s first match on TV in a little over 3 months, as May hit a quick shotgun dropkick on Cameron before a spinning side slam to start. Saraya made the tag and called for Storm, who obliged and the former Outcasts slugged it out. Storm hit a Thesz Press before quickly tagging May, bodyslamming her onto Saraya. May wanted to do the same thing, but couldn’t get Storm up, so Storm just slammed May onto Saraya once more. Saraya faked an injury long enough for Cameron to jump in and get a cheap shot on May, who was isolated throughout commercial.

Storm made the hot tag when things returned, flattening Cameron with a headbutt and drop toehold on Saraya onto her partner in the corner. May came in and wanted dueling superplexes, but instead, Cameron & Saraya hit simultaneous sunset bombs for two. Both took way too long to follow up, allowing Storm & May to block boots, slowly place them down and laying smooches on Cameron & Saraya. May hit May Day, while Storm hit Storm Zero on not only Saraya, but Cameron to get the pin. Post match, Storm was about to do another striptease, when Serena Deeb appeared and laid out Luther with a chair. May was sent outside, leaving Deeb to level Storm with the heel of a shoe. With a chair placed over her, Deeb applied a half crab as refs ran in and pleaded with her to let go. Deeb let the hold go and left, smiling, regaining her Deebs Dojo flag.

-Backstage, The Bang Bang Gang are backstage talking about how Death Triangle needs to earn their Trios Titles shot. At Collision, The Gunns challenge the Lucha Bros to a match and if the Lucha Bros win, the Trios match at Double or Nothing will be for the titles.

Bryan Danielson defeated Satnam Singh (w/Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett) via disqualification

(The match itself was easily the best Singh has looked, as they played the David vs. Goliath story very well. The post match was the main story here, as we get not only the brief return of Tony Khan on the big screen, but Darby Allin with a flamethrower. If Anarchy in the Arena is an anything can happen and probably will stipulation, this was quite the sight to see to end Dynamite on the go home for Double or Nothing.)

This was Singh’s first singles match on AEW TV, as we got the face off to start and Danielson barely is as tall as Singh’s chest. The bell sounds and Danielson fires off kicks, but quickly ate a big boot and massive chop. Singh delivered a delayed vertical suplex, as Danielson went to the outside and was sent into the steps. Dutt tried to clear the announce table, but ended up collapsing the whole thing in the process. Meanwhile, Danielson hit multiple running knees off the apron, sending Singh against the barricade, as he tried for a charging knee, but was caught and chokeslammed on the apron.

Singh ripped off the top turnbuckle and wanted to slam Danielson into it, but referee Bryce put a stop to it. With his attention turned, Danielson hit a low blow and Busiaku Knee, but tried another and ran into the clutches on Singh. Danielson kicked his way out, but Singh hit a violent overhead chop. Singh wanted another suplex, but Danielson ended up on the shoulders, delivering anvil elbows into the LeBell Lock. Before Singh could tap, Jarrett & Lethal attacked, as commentary talked about how the intention was never to win, it was about hurting Danielson.

Post match, Jarrett tried a guitar shot, but Danielson ducked and hit a series of knees on Jarrett & Lethal. Dutt was about to eat a guitar shot by Danielson, but he ducked and Singh just punched through the guitar. Everyone put the boots to Danielson while The Young Bucks made their entrance, raising from the stage, walking to the ring with an envelope of cash they had promised Sonjay Dutt, who took the payoff. Dutt & company left, allowing The Bucks to put the boots to Danielson. The Bucks wanted an EVP Trigger, but Danielson dodged and The Bucks collided knees.

Danielson fought back until the coin drop sounded and Kazuchika Okada walked out from the back. Jack Perry attacked Danielson from behind, as Okada hit the Rainmaker. The Elite dragged Danielson up the stage, as Okada revealed a table just off to the side. We see a car pulling up to the arena on the big screen and it’s Darby Allin arriving, with Tony Khan driving him, as Khan lifted the ban on Allin from the arena. Allin appeared on stage with an actual flamethrower, as Danielson sent Nicholas flying off the stage through the table. Danielson, Allin and a flamethrower were left standing tall, as Okada, Perry & Matthew were hiding behind commentary, while Nicholas’ back was bleeding from the table bump.

Seven matches announced for AEW Dynamite

AEW has revealed the card for the go-home edition of AEW Dynamite just days before Double or Nothing.

Swerve Strickland will face Nick Wayne ahead of his AEW World title defense against Christian Cage next week. They also have a history with one another, as it was Strickland who bloodied Wayne inside his father’s gym last year.

Hook will meet Katsuyori Shibata and Bryan Keith on Wednesday to determine the next challenger for Chris Jericho. Hook has made it clear he wants the title back, but Jericho told Hook on Wednesday that he would need to prove himself.

Hook was the first to qualify, defeating Johnny TV. As he was making his exit, Shibata entered the ring for his match against Rocky Romero, who he defeated. Keith was the last to qualify, quickly getting a win over Boulder with the diamond dust.

Kyle O’Reilly, who was laid out by the House of Black after attempting to make the save for Adam Copeland, will get a chance to wrestle Malakai Black one-on-one before Black challenges Copeland at Double or Nothing in a barbed wire steel cage match for the TNT Championship.

Bryan Danielson will also face Satnam Singh. On Collision, FTR was laid out by The Righteous & Lance Archer, seemingly by orders of The Elite. Danielson said he would be on Dynamite. Later on Rampage, Sonjay Dutt revealed that Danielson would face Singh.

Also added to the card is Orange Cassidy and Will Ospreay teaming up to take on Trent Beretta and Roderick Strong, their opponents for Double or Nothing. Portland Wrestlecast: A talk with Nick Wayne’s grandfather ‘Moondog’ Ed Moretti

There’s a new book out — The Encyclopedia of Portland Wrestling from the House of Action — and on this episode of the Portland Wrestlecast, I talk to both author Mike Rodgers and “Moondog” Ed Moretti, former wrestler and the grandfather of current AEW star Nick Wayne.

We talk about Ed’s family, seeing them on AEW TV, his career, ribs like the time Andre the Giant farted on Buddy Rose, fun road stories, and, of course, the book.

From wrestlers you knew came through Portland like Roddy Piper to wrestlers you didn’t know came through the territory like Jake Roberts, the book is over 500 pages of information and history.

This show has a lot of fun and wrestling history. Check it out.

AEW has announced a new segment for the Full Gear fallout edition of Dynamite.
