Thursday Update

WWE

  • College football writer Chris Vannini reports that WWE is expanding its already existing partnership with the Big 12 conference:
    • Sources: The Big 12 and WWE are expanding their partnership this fall. WWE will hold several episodes of Friday Night SmackDown in Big 12 markets, the night before football games.
    • Includes a Week 0 show in Ireland before KSU/ISU and an Orlando show before UCF/UNC.
  • In footage for his vlog that was filmed before facing Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event last weekend, Logan Paul cut a promo addressing other members of the roster being unhappy that he gets opportunities like challenging Uso for the World Heavyweight Championship:
    • It’s my understanding that some of my peers are not happy that I get these shots so quickly in my career. Let me break it down for you. In your simple brains, you think I’m here because I go viral. You see the numbers, and you think that’s why I’m here.
    • No. The reason that I’m here, the reason that I’m given these opportunities so early in my career, is A) because I’m fantastic, but B) because I’ve been getting those impressions for a decade now.
    • And with those impressions comes an audience, a fan base, eyeballs. That’s why I’m here. ‘Cause people watch what I do. They care what I do. Whether they’re on my team, they want me to win, whether they’re waiting for me to fail, doesn’t matter, they’re watching.
    • And that’s the currency: attention. And so my question would be, for the people who have a problem with my position in the WWE: who’s watching you?
  • Karrion Kross posted his own promo responding to Paul.
  • WWE broadcast team member Cathy Kelley has booked her first movie role in an action comedy titled “Karate Ghost.” Here is how the movie is described:
    • Set in a town ruled by absurd karate law, the film watches as a lonely teen forms an unlikely bond with the ghost of his late father’s favorite action hero. What begins as a haunted mentorship quickly escalates into a fight for identity, legacy, and redemption. [Tim] Rozon leads the cast as Johnny Maim, a washed-up ’90s action star who died tragically mid-stunt now trapped in the afterlife and hungry for one last shot at glory, with [Colton] Gobbo playing grieving 15-year-old Bobby Brody.
  • Goldberg’s son Gage has gotten the same tribal tattoo on his shoulder that his father has.
  • Trick Williams and Lash Legend bought a home together this week.
  • Dublin Live interviewed Lyra Valkyria.
  • WWE LFG contestant Leigh Laurel is now part of the Evolve roster and is going by the name Jin Tala. She’ll face Carlee Bright on next week’s episode.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena vs. Lady Frost, Nick Wayne in action

Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will look to keep her impressive multi-year winning streak going as she faces Lady Frost in non-title action on tonight’s HonorClub show.

The bout will be a Proving Ground match where if Frost can defeat or draw the champion, she earns a future title shot. Athena has held the title since December 2022’s Final Battle.

For the first time since September 2023, Nick Wayne will return to the red and black brand as he faces Bryan Hook.

In other women’s action, past AEW Women’s World title challenger Yuka Sakazaki will face Viva Van.

The show will also feature two tag team matches as Angelico & Serpentico face Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones while MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) takes on Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson).

**********

Little was said to promote tonight’s episode 86 but that didn’t stop the show from kicking off in style, with a very poetic promo from the ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe.

Briscoe survived his match with Chris Jericho at WrestleDream and as long as Jericho runs down the Briscoe name and family, Mark promises to fight him anytime, anywhere.

Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones

Dillinger and Jones made their debut both as a team and in ROH tonight. Angelico and Serpentico have been picking up wins over the likes of The Infantry and the Iron Savages over the summer. They also managed to get Serpentico’s mask back from Maria Kanellis and her goons, but that was behind them now as they looked to position themselves for a shot at the ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara.

Dillinger and Jones were definitely beefier than the laid-back SAP, but the agility of Angelico was on full display as he started off against Jones. Angelico practically danced around Jones before locking in an arm lock and tagging in Serpentico for a double stomp from the top rope on said arm. Dillinger tried to get involved, but like so many bulls in so many china shops, he ran right into the SAP’s fluid and cohesive offense.

Dillinger hopped in and spent some time throwing Serpentico around. The luchadore was not prepared for the brawling style of Dillinger and it looked for a few minutes like an upset was imminent. However, Jones and Angelico got involved andSerpentico locked Jones ina grapevine ankle lock and Serpentico got Dillinger in a tandem cobra stretch to draw out a double submission and a win for SAP.

Rachael Ellering was interviewed in the back.

Ellering promised to step up in ROH and was interrupted by Harley Cameron. Cameron felt that she and Ellering got off on the wrong foot. The two traded passive aggressive insults for a moment until Cameron pulled her in for a hug, starting their “friendship” off right.

Yuka Sakazaki defeated Viva Van

Sakazaki, still hurting from a failed attempt to capture the AEW Women’s World Title from Mariah May at Grand Slam in September, was looking to take it out on Van. Van for her part was still looking for her first singles win in ROH, but had her work cut out for her.

Sakazaki’s entrance music was the real winner as the hardcore J-Pop filled the arena. Whent he match started, Van tried to keep the match pace slow to take away Sakazaki’s sped, but she didn’t count on the agility of the smaller woman, who wormed out of everything thrown at her.

Van went to the top for a springboard attempt, but Sakazaki knocked her from the ropes and stomped around the ring before landing a high knee in the corner. A missile dropkick from the top rope knocked Van senseless, but she managed to kick out at two.

The two played back and forth, trying pinning combinations and wriggling out of them. Van looked pretty impressive against the Joshi star, but in the end Sakazaki hit a Magic Girl Splash from the middle of the top rope and got the pin.

Footage of the Brian Cage vs Atlantis Jr. match from WrestleDream was shown next.

Cage ended up the winner of that match and became the new ROH TV Champion. He cut a promo afterwards, saying things are going to change in ROH now that someone of his caliber has the TV Title. He talked a lot about cliffs, and being pushed off them, but it didn’t make much sense. The gist of it was that the “Age of Cage” is upon us.

Nick Wayne (w/ Mother Wayne) defeated Brian Cook

This is only Wayne’s second match in ROH, losing to then-ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata way back in the dark vestiges of 2023. Following along form The Patriarchy was Mother Wayne. Cook for his part had a cup of coffee with AEW last year, but hasn’t been seen much since, spending most of his time in Defy.

Things started off fast though. Cook caught Wayne on his heels and managed to land a series of quick dropkicks that actually busted Wayne’s lip open. Wayne powered back though, using the skills taught to him by Christian Cage of the Patriarchy. Or so they say.

After that, Wayne dominated the match. Single arm DDT’s, dropkicks and not an insignificant amount of mugging for the camera kept Cook on the mat for the most part. He got a few quick rollup attempts in, and a really cool twisting DDT, but in the end, Wayne hit a jumping cutter and put Cook down for good to get the win.

MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) defeated Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson)

So, Midnight Heat. Disturbing name, pretty good cred on the indies. Their last match around these parts was on a springtime episode of Dynamite where they lost to the Dark Order. MxM Collection came out of the gate on a hot streak (they even competed for the INTERGALACTIC Tag Team Championships in Hoodslam Wrestling) but seem to have cooled a little after traveling the Dynamite/Collision/ROH highway.

To begin, “Tips of honor” were touched and poses were, uh, posed. Mansoor started off against Gibson, who despite my hope every time I saw or heard his name, was NOT 60 years old like another Gibson. As far as the match goes though, Gibson held his own against Mansoor. Pearl tagged in, but that just brought in Madden, who towered over him. At one point, he picked up Pearl with one arm for a leg drop slam.

MxM had this thing in the bag from the start. It was really just a series of poses and comedy bits with a little bit of wresting in between. This does not in any way mean it was a bad match, but it was a predictable one. MxM controlled everything and a sit out choke slam from Madden set up Pearl for the Centerfold and a pin.

AR Fox defeated Jack Cartwheel

Hometown hero Cartwheel came down to the ring doing round outs. No, he was doing cartwheels and in Dusty Rhodes’ old coat no less. Fox was a little more subdued (for Fox) as he used this as a warmup for an upcoming match with Ricochet coming up on Collision.

The two locked up and Cartwheel looked absolutely ripped. He was about 6 inches shorter that Fox, but all muscle. Couple that with his speed and Cartwheel had Fox backtracking. Fox, looking pretty good himself, tried more of a brawler approach, but Cartwheel was able to work around that until Fox hit him on the outside with a massive dive.

Fox tried a rolling senton on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring) but Cartwheel avoided it, causing Fox to land right on his back. He was ok though, as evidenced by the jumping neckbreaker he delivered to Cartwheel moments later.

The two hammered on each other in a relatively even affair until Fox went to the top rope for… something, and Cartwheel sent him to the mat. Fox jumped up for a 450 splash and managed to keep Cartwheel on the ground long enough to get the pin.

Atlantis Jr. defeated Jon Cruz

Cruz was pretty excited to see his name up on the big screen as he entered. Atlantis Jr, fresh off losing the ROH TV Title to Brian Cage, was a little more subdued, but still carried that Luchadore flair. He had the size advantage on Cruz, but Cruz has the veteran reps to surprise.

Atlanis struck first, catching Cruz with a big kick and spinning backbreaker. Atlantis set up Cruz in the corner and tried to feed him kicks, but Cruz squirmed out and began pounding on Atlantis, counting blows in Spanish. He then bit Atlantis on the mask for some reason.

Cruz got a little cocky, trying out a standing cover, but Atlantis wasn’t going down like that. Atlantis hit a pop up cutter followed by a big frog splash and got the win.

Komander defeated Willie Mack to earn an ROH TV title match

Mack is calling himself “The Chocolate Juggalo” these days and that’s… well, that’s something. Komander brought along his hype man and the two set up for what promised to be a really fun clash of styles. Mack, a notorious brawler against the luchadore stylings of Komander. Also, the winner of the match will get a future ROH TV title shot.

Mack appeared to be twice the size of Komander, but had trouble keeping up with him. When the two did connect, Komander definitely got the bummer end of it, being hit so hard he flipped over. A couple of times.

Speed wasn’t an issue though, as Mack is unearthly fast and agile for a man of his size. Komander didn’t have much to fight back with, but he was able to take a lot of what Mack was dishing out to keep the match going. Right up until the nipple twists. Mack twisted Komander’s nipples and it was as awkward as it sounds.

Komander got a bunch of offense in on Mack, including a big dive over the ropes to the outside. He tossed Mack back in the ring and ran the ropes for a shooting star press to get the victory over the bigger man and become the new #1 Contender for the ROH TV Title.

Jericho Responds to ROH Champion Mark Briscoe

Chris Jericho cut a promo next, claiming that Mark Briscoe cheated to win their match at Wrestledream. He wants a rematch and to become the 2-time ROH Champion, just like Jay Briscoe. They cut to Mark right away, and he accepted the rematch, but it will be a more violent affair next week on Dynamite when Jericho and Briscoe have a LADDER WAR for the ROH Championship.

ROH CLASSIC MATCH: The Briscoes vs. SoCal Uncensored vs. The Young Bucks (Ladder War for the ROH Tag Team Championships, ROH Final Battle 2018, NYC)

Speaking of Ladder War, how about a classic one featuring the Briscoes and current AEW EVP’s Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, as well as then ROH Tag Champs Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian. There was a lot to love about this match, but honestly it was just a joy reliving Jay and Mark Briscoe doing the tag team work they did so well. Their opponents couldn’t be better, but it was seeing Jay do his thing that was really exciting. He is really, really missed.

As with most of the classic matches, I won’t get into who won what, but this was a wild and violent match. At times it was impossible to know who was winning as bodies were flying everywhere. Chairs, tables and of course, ladders, were used as weapons by anyone and everyone. The Briscoes had a bit of advantage in that they were used to hardcore, violent matches at this point. But the Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored hung in there, giving as good as they got.

To get ready for the Briscoe/Jericho Ladder War coming up on Dynamite, this was an excellent taste of what it could look like. I highly suggest checking it out on HonorClub or elsewhere.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena (w/ Lexy Nair) defeated Lady Frost in a Proving Ground match

Lady Frost has been having a rough time in ROH lately. She’s lost an ROH Women’s World TV Title Proving Ground match, been eliminated from the AEW Women’s World Title, uh, Eliminator tournament and now she has to face a very cranky Athena. For her part, Athena has been stressed out lately by what she sees as a failing Minion in Billie Starkz, and being stalked by Abadon. If Frost could last ten minutes or pin the champion, she’d be guaranteed a future title shot.

Athena arrived still chained to Lexy Nair, with no Billie Starkz in sight. Last week, Athena chained herself to Nair to avoid Abadon. I don’t know exactly how this was supposed to work, but go with it. For the match, she unchained herself and for some reason locked Lexy to the ringpost? The only thing I could think of was Athena was setting Lexy up to be bait for Abadon, not unlike Wyle E. Coyote attempting to trap the Roadrunner.

With all that out of the way, the match started and the two women tangled up and wrestled from post to post. Athena ended up with the better of it, but Frost responded with a hurricanrana off the ropes. Anything Athena threw at Frost, she had an answer for, but Athena only needed to keep the match going until the 10 minute time limit to win.

Frost was nearly counted out after some interference from Lexy on the outside. That gave Athena the momentum, but the champion was clearly distracted by the thought of Abadon lurking nearby. It caused her to miss a senton and give Frost an opening. She went high, but Athena countered.

Athena manged to land a big slam from the top rope and lock in her crossface submission. Frost tried to fight out of it, but Athena only wrenched down harder, causing Frost to tap out.

Athena re-cuffed herself to Lexy and started beating up Frost. Suddenly, Abadon’s music hit and Athena a Lexy turned tail and ran as fast as they could to the exit as the show came to a close.

Rico appears with MxM Collection at AEW WrestleDream Zero Hour

MxM Collection’s third man has been revealed.

Prior to their match at AEW WrestleDream Zero Hour, Mansoor and Mason Madden revealed that Rico, the former manager of Billy Gunn, would be in their corner for their upcoming match against The Acclaimed. However, despite having a third man in their corner, it didn’t work out for the models. The finish of the match had Rico attempt to help Mansoor back into the ring but ended up bumping into Billy Gunn. Rico attempted a spinning kick but Gunn blocked it and hit the famouser. Mansoor checked on Rico but ended up getting laid out by The Acclaimed and was ultimately pinned.

Rico is best known for his run in the WWE, where he first managed Billy and Chuck as their stylist. An angle took place where Billy and Chuck were to be married, but before the wedding ceremony was finished Billy revealed that it was all a ruse, and Rico was the mastermind behind the publicity stunt.

After splitting from Billy and Chuck, Rico remained in WWE until he was released in 2004. He wrestled in All Japan after his release and ultimately ended up retiring, aside from a match that took place in 2012.

House of Black vs. MxM Collection Friday Night Fashion Fight set for next AEW Collision

MxM Collection is looking to make a fashion statement next week.

After Buddy Matthews defeated Komander on Saturday’s AEW Collision, Mansoor and Mason Madden appeared on the screen and said next week was fashion week, and they were planning on making a major fashion statement by turning Matthews and Brody King into the house of black and blue. They then announced the Friday Night Fashion Fight for next week.

MXM Collection made their AEW debut during the ROH Death Before Dishonor Zero Hour event, defeating Angelico & Serpentico. Since then, they have worked both on ROH and AEW Collision. House of Black came up short at AEW All In, losing to PAC, Claudio Castagnol, and Wheeler Yuta in a four-way London Ladders match for the AEW Trios titles.

Next week’s Collision will air head-to-head against WWE SmackDown next Friday as All Out will be held the following night. Here is the updated lineup:

  • Friday Night Fashion Fight: MxM Collection vs. The House of Black (Buddy Matthews & Brody King)

Tag team match rescheduled from AEW Collision to Rampage

AEW has announced the rescheduling of a match.

MxM Collection vs. Top Flight was set for this Saturday’s episode of Collision in Arlington, Texas. However, AEW posted a video on Tuesday revealing that the match will now take place on Friday’s edition of Rampage, which will be taped on Wednesday after Dynamite.

The match being rescheduled is likely due to Mansoor having been booked on CMLL shows in Mexico this weekend. However, he says in the video that he and Mace are unable to compete on Saturday as Mercury will be in retrograde.

“You see our spiritual healer informed us that this Saturday Mercury is in retrograde which means we cannot compete but our spiritual advisor told us that we can compete exactly 22 hours earlier Friday night on Rampage,” Mansoor says in the video.

Mansoor is scheduled to team with Robbie X and Rocky Romero on Saturday against Templario, Titan, and Flip Gordon. Then on Saturday, he’ll team with Robbie X and Gordon against Atlantis Jr, Mascara Dorada, and Angel de Oro.

AEW Rampage announced lineup for August 16, 2024 —

  • Nick Wayne vs. Kip Sabian
  • Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin) vs. MxM Collection (Mason Madden & Mansoor)

AEW Rampage live results: MxM Collection vs. Private Party

Five matches are set for tonight’s AEW Rampage, including MxM Collection facing Private Party.

The MxM duo of Mason Madden & Mansoor will take on Private Party’s Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen in the lone tag team bout on tonight’s episode. MxM Collection made their in-ring ROH debut at the Death Before Dishonor pre-show last Friday, and followed up with their AEW debut on Saturday’s Collision against FTR.

A match with Brian Cage of Cage of Agony facing enhancement talent Manny Lo was taped for the show, advertised just as Brian Cage in action.

The Learning Tree’s Bryan Keith will also face an enhancement talent on the show, as he goes one-on-one with Jackson Drake.

In a women’s division contest, former AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose will face Harley Cameron.

Wheeler Yuta vs. The Butcher in singles competition rounds out the five-match lineup for the show.

Tonight’s episode was taped Wednesday night in Greenville, South Carolina. Spoilers for the show are available here.

**********

Taped in Greenville, South Carolina.

Excalibur, Matt Menard and Tony Schiavone were on commentary.

Wheeler Yuta (w/ Bryan Danielson) defeated The Butcher (10:38)

Danielson actually went over to the commentary table.

Yuta transitioned from a flying octopus hold into a sunset flip for a near fall, but Butcher got right up and mauled him with a shoulderblock. Yuta sent Butcher to the floor and followed him out with a tope. On the floor, Yuta whipped Butcher into the guardrail and hit a forearm. Back in the ring, Yuta went for a blind dive, but Butcher sidestepped him and dropped him with a backbreaker for a near fall.

After the split-screen break, Yuta came off the top with a cross bodyblock. Yuta followed up with a flying clothesline to take Butcher off his feet. Yuta followed up with an enziguri and an elbow strike. Yuta came off the top with a flying forearm. Yuta hit a German suplex and bridge for a near fall. Yuta stomped on Butcher’s arm and locked on a kimura, but Butcher casually got to his feet and hit a powerbomb for a near fall.

Yuta went for a  double chicken wing. When Yuta couldn’t get Butcher down, he bit on his neck and got Butcher down for the mat, then locked in Daneilson’s Cattle Mutilation hold to get Butcher to tap out.

Brian Cage defeated Manny Lo (0:58)

Cage picked Lo up for a slam and gave him a cutter. Cage finished Lo off with Weapon X. That was a proper squash.

– Renee Pauqette interviewed Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher. Brian Cage interrupted, and Fletcher challenged Brian Cage for Collision. Callis is not happy about all this wrestling Kyle Fletcher wants to do.

Nyla Rose defeated  Harley Cameron (7:54)

According to her pre match promo, Cameron is wrestling this match on Saraya’s behalf, who is protesting because she’s not a part of All In. But I don’t think Saraya was ever advertised for this match.

Nyla dumped Cameron to the floor and teased doing a dive on the outside. Cameron sent Rose into the ring barricade. Back in the ring, Carermon choked Rose in the corner with a boot to the throat.

After the commercial break, Cameron went for a tijeras but Rose countered it with a backbreaker. Rose followed up with a big legdrop for two. Cameron came off the middle ropes with a crossbody and got powerslamed. Rose missed a cannon ball in the corner. Cameron got a near fall off a running knee. Cameron gave Rose a Bronco buster, but Rose powered up and turn it into a running Beast Bomb to get the pinfall.

– Private Party cut a promo on the MxM Collection.

“Bad Apple” Bryan Keith (w/ Chris Jericho & Big Bill) defeated  Jackson Drake

Keith caught Drake with an exploder suplex and a big boot. Keith gave Drake the Diamond Dust to get the pinfall.

– Renee Paquette interviewed Katsuyori  Shibata. Through his phone, Shibata promised Hook and Samoa Joe would be back soon, and he would hurt all of Bryan Keith to revenge for what Keith did to his arm.

– A preview of the big eight tag main event for Collision tomorrow afternoon.

MxM Collection (Mason Madden & Mansoor) defeated  Private Party (Zay & Quen) (12:07)

Mason Madden was recruited to the Jaguars after college, which makes him the first guy to work for Tony Khan in the NFL and AEW. Frustrated by Zay doing the “Shots! Shots! Shots!” taught, Madden let the crowd know this was a serious wrestling contest.

Madden was easily a head taller than everyone else in this match. Quen used Zay as a springboard and dropkicked Madden, then Private Party gave Mansoor a flapjack when he tried to run in.

MxM had the advantage during the break. After the break, Quen got the hot tag and hit Mansoor with a series of forearms and a shoulder tackle. Quen hit a standing moonsault and a lionsault. Madden ran in and got an enziguri, and Quen hit Mansoor with an enziguri as well. Private Party hit a back suplex/neckbreaker combo for a near fall. Private Party tried a double suplex on Madden, but Madden reversed it and suplexed both Private Party. Madden hit a leg lariat on Zay into a sitdown powerbomb from Mansoor for a near fall.

Zay came off the ropes with a springboard tornado DDT for a near fall, then hit Madden with a dropkick. Zay went for a tope on Madden on the floor, but Madden caught him with a Black Hole Slam. Quen came off the top with a tope con hilo on Madden.

Back in the ring, Quen and Mansoor are legal. Quen went up the top, but Madden caught him with a chokeslam off the top rope. Monsoon took Kassidy out with a superkick. Mansoor and Madden hit Quen with an elevated/implant double underhook DDT to get the pinfall. MxM Collection looked good here.

MxM Collection vs. Private Party part of five-match AEW Rampage lineup

After making their AEW debut on Collision last week, MxM Collection will be back in action on the Friday, August 2 Rampage episode.

AEW taped five matches for Friday’s Rampage on Wednesday night in Greenville, South Carolina, including a tag team contest with MxM Collection’s Mason Madden & Mansoor taking on Private Party’s Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen.

Four more matches are also set to air on Friday’s Rampage.

The Learning Tree’s Bryan Keith will be in singles competition against enhancement talent Jackson Drake on the show.

In a women’s division contest, Nyla Rose will take on Harley Cameron.

Cage of Agony’s Brian Cage will square off with enhancement talent Manny Lo on Friday’s card.

Also set for the show, The Butcher will go one-on-one with Blackpool Combat Club’s Wheeler Yuta.

Spoilers for the Friday, August 2 AEW Rampage are available here.

A spoiler-free lineup for Friday’s show:

  • MxM Collection (Mason Madden & Mansoor) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)
  • Bryan Keith vs. Jackson Drake
  • Nyla Rose vs. Harley Cameron
  • Brian Cage vs. Manny Lo
  • Wheeler Yuta vs. The Butcher

AEW Collision live results: FTR vs. MXM Collection

FTR begin their road to Wembley on Collision.

Last week, the team declared they were going after The Young Bucks and their AEW World Tag Team titles, and were eyeing Wembley Stadium. Dax Harwood said they would keep winning matches until they got the shot. At Friday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor, Mansoor and Mason Madden won in their ROH debut by defeating Serpentico & Angelico. Backstage, they challenged FTR to a match.

Hologram will also be in action, taking on The Beast Mortos. After a few weeks of vignettes, AEW’s newest star made his debut on Collision last week, defeating Gringo Loco. Mortos picked up a win in the opening match of Death Before Dishonor, defeating Komander.

Other matches will see Orange Cassidy facing Johnny TV, Thunder Rosa facing Maya World, Lio Rush taking on PAC, and The Conglomeration taking on Premier Athletes.

Join us for live coverage starting at 8 pm PT. Collision will be part of a three-hour block that also includes Battle of the Belts XI.

Collision once again emanated from the ESports Arena in Arlington, TX. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

Orange Cassidy defeated Johnny TV (w/ Taya Valkyrie)

Johnny isn’t moving around so well. The age might be catching up to him.

We got clips of this past week’s Adult Swim Battle of the Booty event, where Cassidy, Johnny, Willow Nightingale, & Taya Valkyrie wrestled human versions of Adult Swim characters. I’m not high enough for the sentence I just wrote to make sense.

Johnny did some breakdancing to cut off some arm work. After some shenanigans with Johnny’s glasses, Cassidy sent Johnny to the floor – with his hands in his pockets – before hitting a dive to the floor. Johnny cut Cassidy off and worked him over, with Cassidy rolling out of the way of some standing moonsaults before Taya rolled him into the way of a standing Shooting Star Press.

After Johnny kicked Cassidy’s arm against the barricade, he worked on the arm for some time. Cassidy came back and hit a Stundog Millionaire. Johnny cut him off with a neckbreaker, but the Starship Pain missed its connection. Johnny cut off a diving DDT with another neckbreaker, then hit the Starship Pain for a nearfall. Cassidy snatched Johnny up with the Beach Break, then hit the Orange Punch for the win.

After the match, Valkyrie distracted Cassidy, allowing Johnny to chop block Cassidy. They laid the boots to Cassidy until Willow Nightingale made the save.

We got a recap of The Patriarchy beating Bullet Club Gold to win the vacant Trios Titles last week. Bullet Club Gold was in the interview area, where Juice Robinson noted that they don’t cry over spilled milk. Robinson said that Mother Wayne made a mistake spraying him in the eyes with that “aerosol chemical bullcrap,” and that they were not done with the Patriarchy. Austin Gunn said that the Patriarchy would have to answer to the Bang Bang Gang. Colton Gunn said that Arlington was their town and that Collision was their show.

This was a total babyface promo.

Blackpool Combat Club (Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli) defeated Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin) (w/ Action Andretti), Brian Cage & Lee Moriarty (w/ Shane Taylor)

This was a fun three-way tag, with several undercard feuds merging.

Moriarty won the ROH Pure Championship from Yuta last night at Death Before Dishonor. Cage is teaming with Moriarty because Shane Taylor picked up an injury later in that show.

Yuta and Moriarty started, with Yuta outwrestling Moriarty and forcing him to tag Dante Martin. Dante picked up the pace, scoring a nearfall with a high cross. Top Flight ran wild as The Infantry watched from the back. The BCC cut off Martin with a double shoulder block, but Cage blind-tagged Castagnoli to take control of the match for his team.

After a commercial break, Moriarty cut off a tag and scored a nearfall with a Shining Wizard. Dante rolled out of a back suplex and tagged Castagnoli, who ran wild with European uppercuts. Arlington went crazy for Castagnoli’s hot tag, including the Giant Swing. Darius Martin blind tagged Castagnoli to Castagnoli’s annoyance.

A pinning predicament led to a move train, which led to a face-off between Cage and Castagnoli. Top Flight sent them to the floor and hit stereo dives to the floor, leading to another move train on the floor. Yuta blind-tagged Moriarty and hit Darius with the Right Angle Slam, then pinned him with the Seatbelt pin.

The Conglomeration was backstage with Lexy Nair. Willow Nightingale & Orange Cassidy entered the frame, with Willow hyping everybody’s matches tonight. When asked how he was doing physically after Blood & Guts & Death Before Dishonor, Mark Briscoe said that the word of the day was tenacity. He asked Kyle O’Reilly to hold his baby – the ROH World Title – before introducing the newest member of the Conglomeration, his actual baby named Jay. Briscoe cut his wildman promo with a baby in his arm, while O’Reilly was tossing the ROH World Title in the air like it was an infant. This is a must-see promo.

Hologram defeated The Beast Mortos

The rollout of Hologram has been TREMENDOUS. His first two matches couldn’t have gone any better, as he’s already a star in Arlington.

Hologram got chants on his entrance after his exciting debut last week. We got highlights of Mortos’ win last night at Death Before Dishonor against Komander. We got a fast-paced lucha start to this match, with plenty of headscissors and arm drags. Mortos caught Hologram with a powerslam for a nearfall. Mortos sent Hologram flying out of the ring with a Pounce as we went to a commercial.

Hologram evaded Mortos in the corner before hitting a triple-rotation around-the-world headscissors to a massive reaction. Mortos cut off Hologram on the top rope and hit a Hammerlock Driver off the top for a nearfall. Hologram got Mortos to the apron and hit a rising Canadian Destroyer on the apron, then followed up with a ropewalk dive to the Mortos on the floor. Hologram hit a rocket ship suicida as the crowd lost their minds for all of this.

Back in the ring, Mortos caught a top rope hurricanrana, but Hologram stood on Mortos’ shoulders to hit another Destroyer for a nearfall. Mortos came back with a Bane-esque backbreaker, a powerbomb over the knee, and a lariat for a nearfall. Mortos brought Hologram to the top rope, but Hologram reversed a top rope Gorilla Press with a headscissors. Hologram hit a Crucifix Bomb for the impressive win.

Thunder Rosa defeated Maya World

Oh, like My World. I get it. The announcers noted that World was trained by ROH Women’s Champion Athena and was highly rated in the PWI Rookie of the Year race last year. Rosa got a quick win with a seated Camel Clutch. Rosa threatened Deonna Purrazzo to the camera after the match.

We got highlights of Lance Archer vs. Will Ospreay from New Japan Dominion 2023 before it was announced that they would have a rematch this Wednesday on Dynamite. We cut to a pile of dead bodies strewn about the backstage area before Lance Archer came out destroying another poor guy. He cut a promo warning Ospreay about Wednesday while beating these poor dead guys up some more.

The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe & Tomohiro Ishii) defeated The Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari, Josh Woods & Tony Nese) (w/Mark Sterling)

It’s so odd to me that AEW has kick-ass trios matches on a pretty regular basis but doesn’t ever have them for the actual Trios Titles. Bounce those things around and have some fun with it. Not every title needs to have long, definitive reigns. But as I said earlier, this kicked ass.

The Conglomeration were in firm control for the opening minutes until Daivari and Woods pulled O’Reilly to the floor and laid the boots to him. Briscoe cut them off with a chair-assist dive to the floor. After a commercial, Ishii made the hot tag and ran wild. Briscoe tagged and ran wild on Nese but got distracted by Sterling on the apron. The Athletes hit a triple-team on Briscoe, forcing Ishii to break up the pin.

We got a move train that led to a dive train. Woods ran wild with suplexes but ended up in a triple-team attack by the Conglomeration. Ishii laid out Sterling with a lariat, and O’Reilly got the submission on Woods with a cross armbreaker.

We got a recap of Katsuyori Shibata saving Minoru Suzuki from a beatdown from The Learning Tree. Jericho was with Renee Paquette in video from after Dynamite. Suzuki broke Jericho’s finger in their match and said that he would get Suzuki back at some point. Jericho said that The Learning Tree was going to go after Shibata, and since all of Shibata’s friends are gone, no one would save him.

Lance Archer defeated A Nameless Victim

A guy ran out onto the ramp before Archer chased him to the ring. A ref appeared as Archer chokeslammed this poor guy onto the apron. Archer hit the Blackout for the mercy kill, then shouted to the camera about Will Ospreay.

FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) defeated MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden)

MxM Collection were very charismatic in their debut. Madden was a little clunky, but both men did just fine for their role here.

This is the AEW debut of the MxM Collection, after they wrestled on the ROH Zero Hour last night. The announcers noted that Madden was the first athlete to work with Tony Khan in both AEW and the NFL, as he was scouted by Khan before the 2013 NFL Draft. He also was on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in 2015. Mansoor dropped Harwood and posed, but Harwood lit him up with a chop. Mansoor almost got caught by the Shatter Machine, but Madden pulled him to the floor as we went to a commercial.

MxM worked over Harwood, with Madden hitting a hip attack into a pose before getting a nearfall. They hit a Hart Attack, with Madden hitting a leg lariat instead of a clothesline, for a nearfall. Wheeler got the hot tag and ran wild. Wheeler ducked a corner charge from Mansoor and set up the spike piledriver, but Madden booted Harwood off the ropes. Madden missed another leg lariat and got hung up on the ropes. Harwood got a blind tag in and caught Mansoor with the Shatter Machine for the win.

The Acclaimed were backstage after Blood and Guts on Wednesday. Anthony Bowens cut a fired-up promo about defending AEW and told everyone to never underestimate the Acclaimed. Max Caster talked about FTR, saying that they would’ve been in the cage with them if they loved AEW as much as they claimed. Bowens told the Young Bucks to rest up because the Acclaimed had their tag team title match coming down the pike.

A serious Acclaimed promo, and a good one to boot.

PAC defeated Lio Rush

This wasn’t the fireworks show you would expect when you see these two names, but this was still a solid Collision main event. PAC gets another win before his eventual International/American Title match.

PAC caught Rush with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, then caught Rush on a wheelbarrow attempt. Rush turned it into a flash pin, but PAC cut him off with a back elbow. PAC held control through the commercial break, then hit a nasty Liger Bomb for a nearfall. Rush held onto the ropes on a snap German suplex attempt, then hit a hurricane kick to reset.

We got a note that next week’s Collision will have a special start time of 5:00 Eastern/4:00 Central. Rush sent PAC into the ring post on the floor, then followed up with a tope. Rush brought PAC down hard with a Falcon Arrow for a nearfall. PAC sent Rush into the buckles hard and brought him to the top rope, but Rush headbutted him down. Rush went for the Rush Hour, but PAC caught him and hit a delayed German suplex for a nearfall.

PAC set Rush up for the Black Arrow, but Rush rolled out of the way. Rush baited him into a poisonrana, then hit the Rush Hour for a nearfall. Rush went for the Frog Splash, but PAC got his knees up. Rush reversed another German attempt into a flash pin for a nearfall, but PAC ripped his head off with a lariat. PAC quickly snatched Rush into the Brutalizer for the quick tapout.

Maximum Male Models vignette airs on Ring of Honor TV

The duo formerly known as Maximum Male Models in WWE is on their way to Ring of Honor.

A vignette for the MxM Collection aired during Thursday’s Ring of Honor TV episode, signaling the impending debut of the former Mace and Mansoor in ROH.

The former Mace in WWE is now Mason Madden, while Mansoor has retained the same moniker. The duo has reprised their WWE male models gimmick on the independent scene since being released by the promotion in September 2023.

Reports last month indicated that MxM were set to appear at the ROH taping in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday, June 15, although no official word as to whether the duo have signed with the promotion has leaked.

The vignette that aired during Thursday’s Ring of Honor TV episode is embedded below.

Thursday’s episode also saw the first two matches made official for the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view set for Friday, July 26. Our report from the show is available here.
