The match was announced via on-screen graphics on Tuesday’s AEW Dark.

Show Report —

Sammy Guevara talked to Alex Marvez earlier today but was ambushed by a chair shot from Shawn Spears. Spears said “Complements of MJF. Good luck next week,” to set up Guevara vs. MJF.

Taz joined commentary for this match. No Cage, Starks, or HOOK out there with Hobbs.

Hangman Page defeated Powerhouse Hobbs

This was a really good slobberknocker to open the show.

Both men are ranked in the top 5. Hobbs forced Page into the corner at the start, driving his shoulder repeatedly into Page’s midsection. Page turned it around and hit running clohteslines, but Hobbs wouldn’t go down. Hobbs then avoided a Buckshot Lariat by rolling to the floor.

Hobbs attacked Page’s right arm on the floor, wrapping it around the barricade. A vertical suplex followed once they returned to the ring. Page got his feet up on a Vader bomb attempt and went for ten punches in the corner, but Hobbs forced him down and sent him head-first into the corner post.

Out on the floor, Hobbs tried to toss Page into the corner post, but Page fought out and pushed him into it. Page had been busted open on the top of his head. Back in the ring, Page hit repeated boots and his springboard lariat to finally knock Hobbs down. A plancha followed out to the floor.

Back in the ring, a top-rope moonsault to a standing Hobbs got two. Hobbs powered out of a suplex and leveled Page with a lariat. Page rolled out of the way of a diving headbutt and flattened Hobbs with a big lariat for two. Hobbs fought out of the Deadeye and took Page down with a running crossbody for two.

Ricky Starks and HOOK ran out with the FTW Championship, but Brian Cage ran interference and sent them packing. The distraction allowed Hobbs to hit a big spinebuster for a good near fall. They traded elbow smashes until Page avoided a running crossbody and hit a German suplex. The Deadeye followed for the win.

A very good video package played hyping Omega vs. Jungle Boy for later tonight. They set it up as one of the biggest matches in Dynamite history.

**********

The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler cut a promo. Matt said they’re the longest reigning tag champions in AEW history. Cutler started to talk but was told to shut up repeatedly. They listed all the people they’ve beaten, and next is Eddie Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo. They’re not even real tag wrestlers. The Bucks are going to beat them because they’re EVPs: Extremely Violent People.

Tully Blanchard & Konnan Interview

This was very strange. The performances were convincing but the content was non-traditional.

Schiavone was the moderator. Tully let Konnan speak first. Konnan said he wasn’t going to be intimidated by mind games, and neither will Santana & Ortiz. FTR tried to say they had the same upbringing as Santana & Ortiz, but North Carolina isn’t the same as New York City. He brought up social issues. He said Tully’s a mentor, but Konnan’s a father.

Tully said Konnan doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. Konnan’s just going to make one big entrance on Dynamite before FTR ends the game.

Konnan brought Santana & Ortiz out. Tully pointed to the big screen, which showed Santana & Ortiz being beaten up. The Santana & Ortiz in the ring unmasked as FTR and hit the spike piledriver on Konnan.

**********

Vickie Guerrero interrupted during Dante’s entrance with her “excuse me!” schtick and brought out Andrade El Idolo. They were about to speak more, but was interrupted by Sydal’s entrance.

Matt Sydal (w/ Mike Sydal) defeated Dante Martin

This was a rematch from a notable AEW Dark match from a couple weeks ago. They performed chain wrestlling to start before Dante hit a springboard dropkick for two. A standing twisting moonsault from Sydal got two ahead of the commercial break.

Once back, Sydal applied a modified Figure Four leglock, but Dante reached the ropes. Dante fought back with low kicks and caught Sydal with a fireman’s carry slam for two. A springboard moonsault from Dante got two more. They fought on the top rope until Sydal forced him to the mat, following it up with a meteora for yet another near fall.

Dante hit a great sunset flip for a good near fall, followed by a flipping stunner for two more. He went back to the top rope, but Sydal avoided a stomp and hit the Lightning Spiral for the win.

**********

Jungle Boy was about to talk about how tonight’s going to the be the biggest night of his life. Christian Cage walked up and agreed. He said Jungle Boy shouldn’t just be happy to be here, he should be a little bit pissed off because of what Omega’s been saying. He told Jungle Boy to shock the fans again and win the title tonight.

**********

Jade Cargill was with Mark Sterling, advertising the Jade Brand and a Shop AEW promo code. Cargill ripped up a Dark Order shirt and said she was “that bitch.”

**********

MJF, Wardlow, & Shawn Spears were with Alex Marvez. MJF talked about attacking Jericho and having Spears attack Guevara. He doesn’t understand why people are upset by him attacking Dean Malenko, an old guy with a bad heart and Parkinson’s. MJF said the fans should be thanking him, because he gave Malenko an early retirement. Jericho and Hager ran in, leading to an all-out brawl.

They all brawled out to the ring. The Pinnacle took control with the numbers advantage. MJF and Spears set up to destroy Jericho’s arm with a chair, but Guevara ran out and took out everyone. He whacked Wardlow and Spears with the chair, with MJF fleeing up the ramp.

Guevara grabbed a microphone to loud “Sammy” chants. He said that AEW chose the wrong guy for the action figures and the posters. On Wednesday, Guevara will show MJF he’s the best ever, and he knows it.

**********

Miro thanked God for his power and for keeping his wie flexible. He addressed Brian Pillman Jr., saying standing between the righteous man and his path is like standing between the cleaver and its meat. Next week, he will find out why Miro is God’s favorite champion. The bravest thing he’s ever done in his life was thinking about attacking Miro; the stupidest was actually doing it.

**********

Ethan Page (w/ Scorpio Sky) defeated Bear Bronson (w/ Bear Boulder)

Bronson forced Page into the corner but was met with a right hand, which only served to anger him. Bronson laid in repeated right hands and a back elbow, sending Page to the mat. Page stomped on Bronson’s foot and mocked him, so Bronson hit a powerslam for two. Bronson sent Page from corner to corner and then the floor. He hit a big tope, but Sky pushed Page out of the way and took the bullet for him.

WIth the official distracted, Sky blindsided Bronson, allowing Page to take control into the break. Once back, Bronson fought out of the Ego’s Edge and hit a running splash in the corner. Bronson clubbed Page with lariats and a spinebuster. Page avoided a running senton, but Bronson fought out of the Ego’s Edge and hit a seated splash for two.

They fought on the top rope, where Page hit a superplex for two. Bronson came back with a black hole slam for two. He went to the top rope, where Sky tried to interfere. Boulder chased Sky off, but Page hit a low blow with the referee distracted. Page then hit the Ego’s Edge for the win.

– After the match, Page said “I’m not stupid,” which was met with “Yes you are!” chants. He’s not stupid because he knows Darby Allin isn’t done with him. Page is gonna be the nail in Allin’s coffin, “so why don’t I just put you in one?” He challenged Allin to a coffin match for July 7.

**********

Britt Baker and Rebel listed things they’d ask for. They could think of a million things they’d ask for if Tony Khan owed them a favor, but Vickie Guerrero asked for a wrestling match. Baker’s the face of a new era, one that doesn’t have time for fun and games and old chicks. “Excuse me in advance for beating your ass.” She’ll send Vickie home with a prescription signed “D.M.D.”

**********

Guerrero said Nyla Rose is coming for Baker’s title at Fyter Fest. Rose said that next week, Baker should watch out for the claws of the cougar.

**********

Kris Statlander (w/ Orange Cassidy) defeated The Bunny (w/ The Blade)

Statlander had the power advantage early on. Bunny tripped her up and taunted, so Statlander took her down with arm drags. Bunny starched her with a slap, Statlander hit a gamenguiri and followed it with a vertical suplex. She went for a corner attack, but Bunny hit a thrust kick, sending Statlander to the floor. She followed it up with a running dropkick into the break.

Bunny clotheslined Statlander to the floor, where Statlander countered some running offense into a powerslam. Back in the ring, they traded strikes until Statlander hit almost a Michinoku Driver for two. Bunny fought out of the Big Bang Theory but was instead met with a Blue Thunder bomb for two.

Statlander climbed to the top but was sent back to the mat with a German suplex. Bunny followed it up with a thrust kick for two. Blade distracted the official and slipped her brass knuckles, but Orange pocketed them and left. Statlander hit the Big Bang Theory for the win.

– Blade attacked Orange after the match, with TH2 running out to join the beatdown. Blade got the knuckle duster back and knocked out Cassidy with them as TH2 held him up.

**********

QT Marshall was interviewed by Schiavone about Brock Anderson. He was upset that Brock got all these accolades for his debut. Marshall noted that Cody’s not here, and he hopes it stays that way.

**********

Brian Pillman Jr. addressed Miro. He thinks Miro’s got a God complex. Pillman’s got a complex too, and it’s called fighting for everything he’s ever had. On Wednesday, he’s going to check Miro’s ego and win the title.

Eddie Kingston, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Alex Abrahantes spoke. Kingston learned something about the Bucks. It doesn’t matter how much they get hit, because it’s all about their ego. The only way to hurt them is to take those tag titles. Penta spoke in Spanish. “Penta says next week, we run over you.”

Don Callis joined commentary.

AEW World Championship: Kenny Omega (c) (w/ Don Callis & The Good Brothers) defeated Jungle Boy (w/ Luchasaurus & Marko Stunt)

This was excellent, one of the best Dynamite matches all year. Jungle Boy is unbelievably popular; they showed his family looking on during the match.

The official immediately ejected Stunt, Luchasaurus, and the Good Brothers. Omega won a strong lockup, taunting Jungle Boy’s long hair. They performed chain wrestling until Omega took Jungle Boy down by his hair. Omega laid in strikes in the corner, but then Jungle Boy turned the tables and did the same. Jungle Boy went for a step-up arm drag, but Omega caught him. Jungle Boy fought out and hit a springboard arm drag and then a dropkick, sending Omega to the floor.

Omega stopped a dive and pulled Jungle Boy out of the ring, sending him into the barricade. He continued the beatdown through a commercial. During the break, Omega sent Jungle Boy into the crowd and waited for a countout, but Jungle Boy made it back in time. Jungle Boy avoided You Can’t Escape, but Omega got the knees up on a senton attempt and hit a backbreaker for two.

The champ laid in chops and went for Aoi Shoudou, but Jungle Boy fought out and hit a brainbuster. Omega spilled to the outside, where Jungle Boy hit two suicide dives. Jungle Boy hit his float-in DDT, but Omega rolled to the floor, where Jungle Boy hit a tope con giro. Jungle Boy went to the top rope, but Omega chopped him down. Omega went for a superplex, and hit it after a long fight for two.

Jungle Boy avoided a V-Trigger and flipped out of a German. He hit a thrust kick, but Omega came back with a V-Trigger, a snap dragon suplex, and a second V-Trigger. Jungle Boy countered the One Winged Angel with a reverse hurricanrana, then a sliding elbow smash to the back of Omega’s head got two. He went for a ripcord, but Omega turned it into a V-Trigger. A powerbomb and another V-Trigger got two.

Omega went for another V-Trigger, but Jungle Boy rolled through and locked on the Snare Trap submission. The Good Brothers ran out but were immediately cut off by the Jurassic Express and Frankie Kazarian. Omega reached the ropes before the two traded forearms in the center of the ring. Omega hit a V-Trigger but Jungle Boy hit a rebound lariat. Omega hit a brainbuster for two.

Another V-Trigger followed, but Jungle Boy fought out of the One-Winged Angel and rolled Omega up for a great near fall. He locked on the Snare Trap once again. Omega grabbed Jungle Boy’s hair, forcing him to break the hold. Jungle Boy perched Omega on the top rope, but Omega slid out and dropped him over the ropes. A V-Trigger to the back of the head followed, as did the Jay Driller for two.

Omega then hit the One-Winged Angel to win and retain.

– After the match, Omega looked like he would use the belt to attack Jungle Boy, but Christian ran out and sent him packing. Matt Hardy & Private Party ran out and attacked Christian. Christian was about to counter the Twist of Fate into a Killswitch, but the Young Bucks ran out and crushed Christian with superkicks. Hardy hit the Twist of Fate. Omega posed with the belt to end of the show.

AEW Double or Nothing scrum: Mark Henry, Lio Rush, NJPW notes

AEW held a media scrum following the Double or Nothing PPV.

Tony Khan, Chris Jericho, Britt Baker and Jungle Boy spoke to reporters. Here are some notable items from the event.

Tony Khan —

  • Khan said that he has a handshake deal with Lio Rush, who debuted in the Casino Battle Royale. He said that he had looked to bring Rush in for an event in 2020, but Rush filming MTV’s The Challenge precluded that from happening. He said that Rush will continue to be available for NJPW events.
  • Regarding the promo that Khan cut on WWE’s Nick Khan and the report that WWE had negotiations with NJPW, Khan said that he asked NJPW if they thought he should cut the promo. He said that NJPW agreed and “they thought it was great.” Khan said that he expects to continue working with NJPW.
  • Khan discussed Mark Henry’s signing. He said that he and Henry are personal friends. He put over Henry’s mind for the wrestling business and thought he would be a good locker room presence.
  • Khan said that Mark Henry and another current AEW roster member will be commentators on Rampage when the show debuts in August. He said that Rampage will sometimes be taped in conjunction with Dark and Dark: Elevation, but that Rampage will also be live some weeks.
  • Khan said that he apologized to Hikaru Shida for the incident where commentator Willie Urbina mocked her accent and that it was important that he take action in dealing with the incident.
  • Khan said he expects that there will be another Stadium Stampede match in the future.

Chris Jericho —

  • Jericho said that portions of the Stadium Stampede match were filmed over a period of four days and that they were looking to make the match look more like an action movie.
  • To that end, Jericho said that they brought in a stunt coordinator who works on the Jon Wick action films to help film the “fight scenes.”

Britt Baker —

  • Baker put over the hard work of the entire women’s division and said that they collectively have improved with more television time.
  • Baker said that AEW currently doesn’t have any female coaches, but could see Serena Deeb in that role in the future.

Jungle Boy —

  • Jungle Boy gave credit to wrestling veteran talent like FTR and Chris Jericho for improving his in-ring work. He said that working on Dark and Dark: Elevation has helped him improve as well.
  • He described the anxiety that he deals with before his matches, but said that having his Tarzan Boy entrance music has helped ease that.

H/t to Fightful for posting video of the scrum.

AEW World title match to take place in two weeks on Dynamite

An AEW World title match has been announced, and will take place in two weeks on Dynamite.

Jungle Boy will be the next to challenge for the AEW World title, facing champion Kenny Omega. He won the Casino Battle Royal that took place on tonight’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view event, last eliminating Christian Cage. It was said that the winner of the Casino Battle Royal would challenge for the AEW World title.

Omega defended the AEW World title at Double or Nothing against Orange Cassidy and PAC in a triple threat match. Omega won the match after countering a Orange Punch pin attempt with a crucifix of his own, retaining the champiosnhip.

In tonight’s Battle Royal, Lio Rush made an appearance as the Joker wildcard. He was eliminated by Matt Hardy and Private Party. It was Hardy who was eliminated by Christian that set him and Jungle Boy as the final two participants. After Jungle Boy won, the rest of Jurassic Express came out to celebrate. Christian then hugged Jungle Boy and left.

Jungle Boy wins Casino Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing

Jungle Boy won the Casino Battle Royale at tonight’s Double or Nothing PPV to earn a future AEW World title shot.

Jungle Boy last eliminated Christian Cage to win the match and the future title opportunity.

The story of the battle royale was Matt Hardy and Hardy Family Office members Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen of Private Party working together to clear the ring. The final five participants in the match were Jungle Boy, Christian, Hardy, Kassidy and Quen.

Christian and Jungle Boy teamed up to avoid a Silly String from Quen and Kassidy on the apron, eliminating Private Party in the process.

With Christian, Hardy and Jungle Boy the final three, Hardy implored Christian to work with him in eliminating Jungle Boy .Instead, Christian tossed Hardy.

After Jungle Boy eliminated Christian, Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt appeared to celebrate with Jungle Boy. Christian returned to the ring after his elimination to congratulate Jungle Boy.

No date has been set for Jungle Boy’s AEW World title challenge, but a match against the winner of tonight’s Kenny Omega vs. PAC vs. Orange Cassidy match on TV this summer appears likely.

AEW Dynamite live results: Two title matches, Page vs. Starks

Ricky Starks cut a promo ahead of the opener, saying he’d show why people call him “Absolute” Ricky Starks.

Taz joined commentary for the match.

Hangman Page defeated Ricky Starks (w/ HOOK)

This was a well-worked opener that could’ve gone even longer if they wanted.

Top-ranked Page plucked Starks out of midair on a leapfrog for the first offensive maneuver of the match. Starks avoided a springboard clothesline, but Page immediately hit it on the second attempt before following it up with a pescado. A pumphandle fallaway slam from Page got two.

Page tried to follow up the offense, but Starks took control by sending Page windpipe-first into the middle rope. Starks flipped out of a German suplex but springboarded into a lariat. Page landed repeated forearms and another fallaway slam before a brainbuster got a two count.

Starks avoided a sliding lariat and used the ropes to escape the Deadeye, forcing Page up into a powerbomb for a near fall. They fought up top where Page landed a third fallaway slam, this time from an avalanche position. He followed it up with a lariat for a close near fall. Page then went for the Buckshot Lariat, but Starks avoided it and hit a spear for another near fall.

It looked like Starks went for Roshambo, but Page escaped into a reversal sequence. Page then turned it into almost a seated sleeper while wrenching on the ankle, forcing Starks to tap.

– After the match, Taz grabbed a mic and said Page got lucky. He then told Page to watch his back as HOOK came in and took Page out with a chop block. Brian Cage came out and set up for a powerbomb, but Dark Order ran out to make the save.

The Elite was shown arriving at the taping into their own personal trailer.

Abrahantes translated Penta’s pre-match promo, which said that if Orange Cassidy got in Death Triangle’s way, they’d turn him into orange juice.

Penta El Zero Miedo (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Trent? (w/ Orange Cassidy)

This was a fun back-and-forth match until the convoluted finish.

Penta did his glove gimmick early on. They exchanged strikes until a set of high knees from Trent took down Penta. Penta pulled Trent out of the ring and tossed him into the barricade, but Trent popped up and landed a hard lariat and then a wild tope con giro.

Back in the ring, a springboard crossbody and Sling Blade from Penta got two. Trent fought out of the package piledriver and hit a tornado DDT, but Penta popped off the ropes into a destroyer ahead of the commercial break. Once back, Trent countered a backstabber into a half-and-half suplex.

Trent landed a running knee for two. He tried to follow it up in the corner, but Penta kicked his leg out and hit a backstabber for two of his own. Penta then hit a pumphandle driver for a good near fall.

They exchanged chops on the apron until Trent landed a piledriver on the apron. Abrahantes grabbed a mic and distracted Trent, telling him he sicks, his friend sucks, and his momma sucks. Trent grabbed a chair and went after Abrahantes. It looked like Orange Cassidy and Trent had him trapped, but Penta surprised Cassidy with a superkick and then Abrahantes whacked Trent with the microphone, allowing Penta to pick up the win.

The Pinnacle sit-down interview with Jim Ross

This was sensational.

JR asked MJF about Jericho’s famous promo from a couple weeks ago. He talked about how his scarf was old and ragged, but then Wardlow opened a new scarf, a gift from Tully Blanchard.

Wardlow said that Jericho cut one of the best promos of his career, but he stumbled over his words when he got to Wardlow. MJF said Jericho wouldn’t elevate the talent around him, mocking the “Jericho rub.” He said Jericho’s outsmarted everyone in his career except himself.

MJF then exploded, saying he’s not just “great for his age,” he’s great — period. He’s undefeated, and he’s already beaten Jericho. He’s better than Jericho, and Jericho knows it. MJF wants Jericho’s spot, because the Pinnacle is always on top.

A really nice pre-match video played hyping this match. Conti came across extremely likable.

Dark Order joined Conti for her entrance.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) defeated Tay Conti

This was the best match of Conti’s career.

They went into a forearm exchange right away. Conti went for judo throws, but Shida continuously blocked until Conti used the ropes as leverage for a takedown. Conti then hit two soccer kicks for two. She went for a Fujiwara armbar before transitioning into a waistlock chickenwing. Shida reached the ropes to force the break.

Shida avoided a soccer kick on the apron and sent Conti crashing down. She followed it up with the draped running knee. Still on the floor, Shida hit an enziguiri and then a brainbuster before rolling her opponent back into the ring. She applied a bow-and-arrow submission before transitioning into a forearm facelock into a commercial break.

Once back, Shida still maintained control of the match. She broght Conti into the ring the hardway with a suplex over the ropes, but Conti popped up with a pump kick for a double down. Conti landed repeated judo throws and a German suplex. She then placed Shida over the ropes and landed a senton for two.

Conti went for the DD-Tay, but Shida countered with a knee and the Falcon Arrow for two. Conti stopped Shida from hitting the Tamashii before they fought up top. Shida hit a headbutt before dropping Conti over the top turnbuckle with the Witch’s Shot.

Shida went for the Katana but ran into a pump kick. Conti followed it up with the Tay-KO for a close near fall. Shida fought out of the DD-Tay and hit a back-to-belly piledriver for two. Conti landed repeated elbow strikes but was just slapped for her trouble. Shida then hit a backbreaker and the Katana to win and retain the title.

– After the match, Britt Baker’s music played as she pointed out that she’s the top contender, setting up a future title match.

Miro cut a video promo saying it didn’t matter who he fights. The only question is who he beats first.

The Inner Circle are interviewed by Tony Schiavone

Jericho didn’t want to talk about the Pinnacle’s comments from earlier in the evening. Instead, he thanked the crowd and promoted the upcoming Blood and Guts match. Jake Hager pulled out straws and said everyone in the Pinnacle would be sucking food through a straw after Blood and Guts.

Santana pointed out The Pinnacle waits to have backup before they fight, saying that’s a “bitch move.” On May 5, we’ll see if the Pinnacle has heart.

Jericho said MJF has a lot of words but no conviction. Even though MJF can sing showtunes, Jericho can sing showtunes too. He sang a song, which prompted a “swirlie” chant. He said he washed his ass with MJF’s new scarf.

Even though it’s fun to make jokes, Jericho said Blood and Guts would be a show of violence we’d never forget. Next week the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle will meet face to face, and at Blood and Guts, the Inner Circle owns MJF’s ass.

Before the match, Anthony Ogogo called America a dump before Marshall said he’d take care of business.

QT Marshall (w/ The Factory) defeated Billy Gunn

Billy attacked Marshall and co. before the bell before sending Marshall to the floor. Back in the ring, Billy maintained control with power moves and body slams. Out on the floor, Billy continued the attack, but a distraction from the official allowed Comoroto to take Billy down. The Gunn Club attacked from the crowd, leaving Marshall and Billy one-on-one at the ring.

Marshall tried to continue the beatdown, but Billy started to fire up. Marshall just hit a straight piledriver for a close near fall. He mocked DX, so Billy popped up and downed Marshall with clotheslines and a Blue Thunder bomb. Marshall fought out of the Fameasser but Billy fought off the Diamond Cutter.

With the official distracted, Anthony Ogogo ran out and crushed Billy with a gut punch, allowing Marshall to hit a Diamond Cutter and win.

– After the match, Marshall was about to continue the attack on Billy with a chair, but Dustin Rhodes ran out and attacked with a bull rope. Dustin and Ogogo faced off, with Dustin picking up the wooden chair that Marshall was about to use. Comoroto ran out, so Dustin smashed the wooden chair over Comoroto’s head as the segment ended.

The Elite were filmed from their personal trailer. Don Callis introduced everyone before saying Kenny Omega was soon to be the new IMPACT champion. Matt Jackson said the Elite was the reason that business went up in Japan and pointed out that it’s called “All ELITE Wrestling.”

Omega was about to speak, but was interrupted by some honking from outside the trailer. It was Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston in a pickup truck. Moxley floored it and rammed the truck into the Elite’s trailer before walking out with a pipe. The two walked into the trailer, but the Elite were nowhere to be found.

Taz joined commentary for the match, where he revealed that the rest of Team Taz had been banned from ringside.

Christian Cage defeated Powerhouse Hobbs

This was a strong match, better than Christian’s first match against Kazarian.

Hobbs overpowered Christian early on, sending him to the ramp. Christian baited Hobbs to the floor with some slaps, allowing him to hit a diving dropkick, but Hobbs popped up and just leveled him with a lariat. He sent Christian over the barricade and exposed the steel guardrail, grinding Christian’s face into it ahead of the break.

Back from commercial, Christian fought back and immediately went for the Killswitch, but Hobbs muscled his way out of it. He whipped Christian across the ring and went for a Vader bomb, but Christian got his legs up. Christian landed right hands and a pendulum kick before a diving uppercut for two.

Christian followed up the attack with some improvised offense, but Hobbs turned a running attack into a hard spinebuster for a near fall. Christian went for the swinging DDT but transitioned into a powerbomb and a frog splash for two. Hobbs shrugged off a spear attempt with a body block before a corner hip attack got two.

A sleeper attempt caught Hobbs by surprise, but he was able to turn it into perfect position for Town Business. However, Hobbs took time to taunt, and Christian hit the Killswitch to win.

– After the match, Ricky Starks limped out to check on Hobbs as he and Christian stared each other down.

TNT Championship: Darby Allin (w/ Sting) (c) defeated Jungle Boy (w/ Jurassic Express)

They performed technical wrestling early on, with a couple cradle attempts getting near falls. After a Snare Trap attempt, Allin took Jungle Boy down with a Thesz press and repeated right hands. They fought on the floor, where Jungle Boy tackled Allin over the barricade into the ringside seating area.

After the commercial break, Jungle Boy landed a strike combination before tossing Allin into the corner. He then hit a couple suplex bridges for near falls. Allin avoided the rebound lariat and hit a stunner for two. Jungle Boy fought out of a corner attack and hit a crazy move, like a body scissors where Allin bumped like it was a reverse hurricanrana.

Jungle Boy hit repeated topes, landing a tope con giro on the third. He tried to suplex Allin back into the ring, but Allin turned it into a guillotine. Allin then landed a Coffin Drop on the apron. As the referee made his count, Luchasaurus assisted Jungle Boy getting back into the ring, which prompted Sting to pick a fight. They fought all the way up through the tunnel.

Back in the ring, Jungle Boy hit his rebound lariat, a brainbuster, and a running elbow for two. He then applied the Snare Trap. Allin reached the ropes, but Jungle Boy pulled him back out with a rolling Romero special before re-applying the Snare Trap. Allin gouged at Jungle Boy’s eyes to escape the hold.

Jungle Boy battered Allin with ground and pound and hit a sunset flip, but Allin locked on the Last Supper cradle for the sudden win.

– After the match, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page ran out and beat down both competitors. Page killed Allin with the Ego’s Edge, but Lance Archer ran out to make the save. Page and Sky beat down Archer after a low blow, but Sting ran out with a baseball bat and chased them off.

Darby Allin vs. Jungle Boy TNT title match set for AEW Dynamite

Darby Allin will defend the TNT title against Jungle Boy on AEW Dynamite.

The company confirmed the match for next week’s episode. The match came after Darby Allin told Tony Khan on Twitter to pick him an opponent from the top 5 men’s rankings. Later, AEW’s social media announced that Tony Khan had picked Jungle Boy.

“The @AEWonTNT Champion called for any Top 5 contender in a title match on Dynamite & AEW GM @TonyKhan has booked a top challenger!” they wrote. “TNT Champion @DarbyAllin will defend the title vs. the unbeaten #3 ranked wrestler in AEW: Jungle Boy on #AEWDynamite on TNT Wednesday 8pm ET/7pm CT!”

Allin successfully defended the TNT title on this week’s episode of Dynamite, defeating Matt Hardy in a falls count anywhere match to retain the title.

  • Hikaru Shida vs. Tay Conti for the AEW Women’s World title

Jungle Boy vs. Limelight to be first-ever AEW Dark: Elevation match

Ahead of next Monday’s debut of AEW Dark: Elevation, the first-ever match for the show will be filmed prior to Dynamite Wednesday as Jungle Boy will face Danny Limelight.

While primarily a tag team wrestler as one half of the Jurassic Express, Jungle Boy has won his last two singles matches and had a standout one-on-one encounter with Rey Fenix to close out Sunday’s Casino Tag Team Royale.

Limelight has been a Dark mainstay for months and recently picked up a pair of singles wins, indicating the company has interest in bigger plans for him. He recently missed some time due to COVID-19, but returned on last Saturday’s Dark to team with Azrieal in a loss to SCU. He has been a constant on New Japan Strong in recent months as well.

Elevation will debut next Monday on YouTube with the new commentary team of Tony Schiavone and Paul Wight. The show is expected to feature more personality profiles and less matches than the marathon Tuesday editions of Dark.

New stipulation added to AEW Dynamite match

A new stipulation has been added to the Dax Harwood vs. Jungle Boy match set for Dynamite.

AEW announced this afternoon that Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard will be handcuffed to Luchasarus at ringside to prevent any interference. Harwood last week accepted a challenge from Jungle Boy without consulting Wheeler or Blanchard. Luchasarus said he would make sure that no one got involved.

The two teams have been feuding in recent weeks. On night two of New Year’s Smash, FTR defeated Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt, with FTR scoring the pinfall win over Stunt.

Here is the full card for this week’s Dynamite:

  • Sting & Darby Allin discuss their upcoming street fight against Team Taz at AEW Revolution
