AEW’s Tay Melo out of action due to back protrusion

Past AEW Women’s title challenger Tay Melo has been out of action due to a back protrusion she has dealt with for more than a decade.

In a podcast interview, Melo said multiple doctors, including AEW’s, have not cleared her. She has been on the sidelines since the mid-January street fight between herself, Anna Jay A.S., Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale.

Back protrusions are sometimes referred to as bulging discs.

She said she is improving and “good,” but gave no timetable for her return other than saying she will be “cleared in the next couple weeks so I’ll be fine.”

Melo said she has been dealing with the injury for more than ten years and that she began to have issues before the aforementioned street fight, saying she couldn’t walk the day before and required a wheelchair to even get through the airport.

“It was really bad,” Melo said, adding she also had difficulty walking days after the violent match.

AEW’s Tay Melo on dealing with social media hate over Sammy Guevara relationship

Tay Melo, who won Most Improved in the 2021 Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards, has been with AEW since 2020 after her release from WWE.

In two years, she has become one of the company’s familiar faces as the young brand builds new stars. Melo started her AEW journey by aligning with the Dark Order, teaming with Anna Jay, and eventually joining the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Her biggest break came at last year’s Full Gear when she challenged Britt Baker for the AEW Women’s title. Although she has yet to win gold, her growth as an in-ring competitor has not gone unnoticed.

Ahead of Sunday’s All Out, I talked with Melo on a variety of topics including her time with the company, what she’s working on outside of pro wrestling, and how she handled a lot of the social media rumors she has faced being in the spotlight.

Here are some highlights with the full video available here:

Goals outside of wrestling

If you scroll through Melo’s Instagram, you’ll notice that she loves to travel and shares a lot of fitness photos with her 638,000+ followers. One the things she revealed to me are the plans she has outside of pro wrestling with one of those being becoming a nutrition coach and personal trainer.

“I started studying to be a nutrition coach. It’s kinda good for me because it takes my head away from wrestling a little bit because I have my own life you know. I have to have something outside, too,” she said. “I like to work out and I like to have a good diet, so I am super excited. After that, I want to keep studying and another goal is to be a personal trainer, I wanna combine everything and I want to learn as much as I can and maybe start my own business. For now, it is more for me to learn.”

Prior to wrestling, Melo came from the world of judo in which she holds a black belt. However, prior to coming to the United States, she was pursuing an entirely different career in Brazil. She attended law school for over four years and was going to join the equivalent of the FBI in her home country.

“Not many people know this, but I went to law school in Brazil. I didn’t finish. I did four years and-a-half but then I had to come here and I had to make this decision: finish my school or come to the U.S. And I was like, ‘I am going to take the risk and I am gonna come to the U.S.’ I didn’t finish my school back then and I also wanted to go back and do something. But I got super busy wrestling, I had to learn English, so I never really did.”

Melo did emphasize that while she did study this for a while, it was not what she loved.

“My goal in Brazil was kinda to be like the equivalent of what the FBI is here. So I never wanted to be a lawyer; I wanted to have law school because I needed to have law school to pursue the career that I wanted. I was never really in love with it. It was just something that I had to do.”

A second wedding for she and Sammy

Melo married fellow AEW roster member Sammy Guevara in August with Tony Khan, Cody Rhodes, Ricky Starks, Thunder Rosa, Nikki A.S.H and several others in attendance. However, due to travel and visa issues, Melo’s family was unable to attend.

“I was super sad because my family was not able to make it. We were trying so hard but because of the visas, we were not able to get them here which I was super upset about, of course, but it’s just an excuse to have a second wedding (in Brazil).”

Melo said it will be a smaller wedding that they are hoping to do in December.

“If we’re able to go in December, I want to spend Christmas with my family. It’s been six years that I (haven’t) spent Christmas with them. With wrestling, we cannot plan anything long term like that, but that’s the main plan for now.”

Dealing with social media pushback

Prior to their romantic Paris engagement and the big wedding, Guevara and Melo’s relationship received a lot of online backlash due to rumors birthed on social media.

Guevara had a relationship for eight years with ex-girlfriend Pamella Nizio that got more of a spotlight when he proposed to her in an AEW ring in Houston.

Although Guevara and Nizio had split prior to his relationship with Melo, many on social media accused Guevara of cheating and accused Melo of being a homewrecker. The two moved past that, but Melo talked about the impact the situation had on her mentally.

“I am pretty sure everyone knows the whole drama. I came from judo and my life was always super stressful, cutting weight and then tournaments, so I always took care of my mental health. So, I always thought that I was a strong person mentally until I got into wrestling.

“I love wrestling but man, it’s tough. It is really tough, especially now. At the end of 2021, there was the whole drama that happened with me and Sammy and I was super sad because that was the best year of my career in wrestling. Then at the end of the year, this whole drama happened and then I was really going through a hard time. I didn’t want to defend myself or anything because I was like, ‘Nothing that I say right now, people aren’t gonna listen. They are gonna say whatever they want.’

“But whenever I go to bed and I put my head on a pillow, I know who I am. I know I did nothing wrong and I was calm. I was like, ‘I have nothing to worry about. This is just like people talking sh*t.’ I always say if you don’t know me personally, I am not gonna take it personally because you don’t know me. You know the character that I play on TV. You know a little bit of my life. I don’t put my life out there as everybody thinks I do. They just know whatever I want them to know and they don’t realize it, which is great. I am doing my job well.

“I deactivated my Twitter. I never really talked about that before so it feels really good to put it out there right now. So I was like ‘What am I doing with my life after this?’ I was thinking a lot. I am doing whatever makes me happy and I did nothing wrong. People were making a lot of comments saying that, “Do you think Sammy is not gonna do the same thing to you? He did it to his ex. How do you live with that?’ And I am, like, ‘Well, I live with that because he didn’t do that.’ And I knew it.

“Sammy and Pam were in a relationship for eight years. It’s a life together. Every time that Sammy talks about her, every time we’ve had a conversation about her or whatever, Sammy always talks about her with a lot of respect and love. They had a life together. I had a relationship before too for almost eight years. We both had long relationships, we respect each other. Sammy and Pam always had a good relationship and they still have. It’s like nobody needs to know that. I don’t need to go to social media and put everything out there how people think that I need to do. After the whole drama, she was the one that texted us to check on us: “Hey, I saw everything that is happening, I hope you and Tay are okay, I’m sorry.’

“People just created a whole storyline, a whole drama for something that really never happened. I saw a couple comments that I cheated on my ex, which I was separated from for a long time. It’s just that my relationship wasn’t as public as Sammy’s. So I never felt the need to put it out there and I do whatever I want with my personal life. So I was, like, ‘This is just bulls*t. Nah it’s okay, people are gonna forget about it.’

“But I got really bad in (my head). My mental health was not doing okay. After a couple days, a couple weeks, it was like ‘Well, this is my job, this is the life that I chose to do so I need to deal with the consequences and then try to do my best.’ Everything at home and in our personal life was going great. The relationship with Pam…she was super nice. When we got engaged, she texted us too. So they talk sometimes and it’s okay. It’s an eight-year relationship, same thing with mine. People don’t understand. They like to look for drama and really there was no drama at all which was unfortunate. It is what it is. We are all okay, we are all happy. And that’s what really matters. She’s doing good, we’re happy, it’s okay. We’re human beings, relationships end, and I am pretty sure it was super hard for the four of us.

“We all had relationships before, so it was super hard. It’s already hard to let it go even when you know it doesn’t work anymore. You’re used to this person, you love this person in a different way, it is hard. People were making bad comments: you’re not helping, you’re just poking something that already hurts. But I am glad that everything is okay now, people are still kinda talking but it’s not that much.

“We’re okay, all of us. In our own personal lives, we are happy. So that’s what really matters. Sammy and I were meant to be, it’s crazy. He’s really my best friend like before our relationship, we were really good friends. He helped me so much with stuff that I was going through and he was always there for me. I cried so much with him. I think that’s how we became this force together. When he was going through his personal stuff, I was there for him. We’re just best friends. We really are, it’s crazy. We always say to each other, ‘Nothing that happens outside of our relationship can affect us.’ It doesn’t, because we love each other. We have fun with each other.”

AEW goals

Melo decided to change her performing name to her real last name after getting married because she was using her ex-husband’s last name prior to that. Her short term goal is to rebrand herself with her new last name.

In the long term, she wants to get back into the AEW Women’s title picture.

“I want to go back, of course, for the main title picture. More than that, I want to keep learning and growing. Keep working with people that bring so much to the table. I wanna work with Toni Storm, I wanna work (Hikarua) Shida again, I wanna work Thunder Rosa, I wanna work Britt again, Britt was one of my favorite matches; she brings so much when she’s on the mic. She’s a beast on the mic. I wanna learn. I think that’s my main goal all the time. I want to do my best and keep growing.”

AEW’s Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti get married

Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti are now married.

The couple was wed in a ceremony on Sunday. Tony Khan, Amanda Huber and her family, Shawn Dean, Nikki ASH, and many others were in attendance.

Conti and Guevara went public with their relationship on New Year’s Eve 2021. Guevara then proposed to Conti on June 3 while the couple was in Paris.

Nikki ASH was one of Conti’s bridesmaids.

Neither Guevara nor Conti were at AEW Dynamite or Rampage last week. With Guevara not present at Dynamite, Eddie Kingston challenged him to a match at All Out.

Guevara last wrestled at AEW Fight for the Fallen on July 27. He defeated Dante Martin in singles action. As for Conti, she hasn’t wrestled for AEW since Double or Nothing back in May. She teamed with Guevara and Frankie Kazarian and lost a trios match to Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky, and Paige VanZant on the show.

Sunday News Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight covering the latest news including Battle of the Belts, G1, Smackdown, AEW drama and WWE changes.
  • Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti were scheduled to be married today.
  • The Saturday G1 show from Osaka was easily the best G1 show so far, to no surprise. Will Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi was everything it was expected to be and more. But the weekend’s biggest story was Jonah knocking Kazuchika Okada from the ranks of the unbeaten. G-1 continues Tuesday and Wednesday in Hiroshima with Tuesday having Yoshi-Hashi vs Yujiro Takahashi, Sanada vs. Chase Owens (who had a career match with Ishii earlier today), Tama Tonga vs Taichi, Lance Archer vs. Jonah and Tetsuya Naito vs. Kenta. It starts at 5:30 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday morning.
  • No updates on the Tatum Paxley and Carmella past the injuries were legit from last night’s shows. Paxley looks to be a jaw injury and Carmella a head injury but nothing is confirmed. (thanks also to help from Matthew Ray and Shaun Burn)
  • Ric Flair was in action last night at the WWC Aniversario event in Bayamon, PR. Andrade vs. Carlito as the main event. Ric Flair was in Andrade’s corner. This led to Carlos Colon coming out and gave Flair a few punches and a headbutt. Carlito pinned Andrade to win the match.
  • Jake Paul attempted to put together a fight with KSI on 8/27. KSI beat Logan Paul to start this entire story of web celebrities drawing huge money. Paul’s fight with Hasim Rahman Jr. scheduled for last night fell through due to weight issues as has been talked about. KSI was scheduled to fight on 8/27 but his opponent fell through and said he would get a new opponent. Jake Paul said he’d cut to 180 to make the fight. He claimed KSI’s people said they would agree to the fight only if Paul did the fight without getting paid and his side took 100 percent. Paul agreed to those terms and KSI said he would do the fight, but not on 8/27, because a fight that big should be a Wembley Stadium. Paul called him all kinds of names.

They were pulled apart and then Velozo allegedly pulled a gun and shot him in the head. Lo had won eight IBJJF world championships in the black belt division since 2012.

That means Saturday’s UFC show on ESPN didn’t even chart, which is unusual. Nothing from WWE charted.

AEW’s Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti get engaged

AEW couple Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti are now engaged to be married.

In an announcement that was made via TMZ on Friday, it was revealed that Guevara and Conti have gotten engaged. Guevara proposed to Conti at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

“Guevara, 28, asked Tay, real name Taynara Melo de Carvalho, to be his wife with one of the world’s most iconic (and romantic) structures as a backdrop,” TMZ wrote. “In classic, old-school fashion, Sammy got down on one knee before asking Conti — who he’s been dating since December — to marry him.”

Guevara and Conti’s relationship has been incorporated into their on-screen characters in AEW, with the couple recently turning heel after crowds reacted negatively to their pairing.

Guevara, Frankie Kazarian & Conti lost to Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page & the debuting Paige VanZant at Double or Nothing this past Sunday. As a stipulation of the match, Guevara and Kazarian can’t challenge for the TNT Championship again while Sky is still champion.

Last December, Guevara and his former fiancee Pam Nizio issued a statement announcing that their relationship had come to an end. Guevara had proposed to Nizio at an episode of Dynamite last August.

After there was backlash on social media to the announcement of their breakup, Guevara clarified that he and Nizio broke up in October of last year and said their relationship ending had nothing to do with anyone else.

Mixed tag team match ‘internally listed’ for AEW Double or Nothing

A mixed gender tag team match involving Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti against Paige VanZant and either Ethan Page or Scorpio Sky is “internally listed” for AEW Double or Nothing.

While the match has not been officially confirmed, our own Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he’s been told it is “tentatively scheduled” for the show.

“The plan for sure was a mixed tag. I know people who presume that still is the idea,” Meltzer said.

On AEW Rampage this week, Guevara, Conti, and Frankie Kazarian took a sledgehammer to the TNT title and said they would continue to do so until they got the match they wanted.

“I was outright told over the weekend that it was ‘listed’. Until it’s announced it’s not announced, they could do it a different way,” Meltzer continued. “But, I was actually outright told that that match is tentatively scheduled for the pay-per-view and that is probably where they would do it.”

Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti win Mixed Tag Team titles at AAA Triplemania XXX

Sammy Guevara did not wrestle at tonight’s Triplemania event in Monterrey, but he and Tay Conti became the new AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions anyway.

Guevara and Conti won the titles, defeating Arez & Chik Tormenta, Kommander & Sexy Star, and Latigo & Lady Maravilla. The finish of the match had Guevara, who originally was replaced in the match by Parka Negra, enter the match and attack Arez and Tormenta with a crutch he was using at ringside. Despite technically not being in the match, Guevara and Conti covered Arez and Tormenta to win the titles for the first time.

Arez and Tormenta had held the titles for 800 days, defeating Big Mami and Nino Hamburguesa at Triplemania XXVII on August 3, 2019.

In a pre-tape promo prior to the match, Tay Conti was concerned about Guevara since he was hurt due to his ladder match against Scorpio Sky that took place at AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday. But Conti told Guevara that she had a plan. Guevara and Conti then came out and revealed Conti’s new tag team partner, Parka Negra.

AEW Dark results: Nyla Rose vs. Kiera Hogan

This week’s AEW Dark was taped in late-December at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Factory (QT Marshall, Aaron Solo & Nick Comoroto) defeated Adam Priest, Invictus Khash & Gus De La Vega

The Factory tagged in and out and took turns beating down whoever happened to be in the ring at the moment. After Priest took some damage, De La Vega got a small amount of offense in before being cut off by Solo. Marshall would go on to hit a trifecta of diamond cutters on the opposing team before Solo came off the top rope with a double foot stomp on Khash for the victory.

Emi Sakura defeated Leila Grey

Sakura just toyed with Grey for the duration of this match. After firing up the crowd with her signature stomp and clap, Sakura hit a double underhook backbreaker followed by a Vader Bomb for the victory.

Diamante defeated Kelsey Heather

Heather was busted open from her nose at some point during this short bout. Diamante quickly moved to submit her with a half straight jacket submission afterward.

Dark Order (Evil Uno, Stu Grayson & Alan “5” Angels) defeated Jay Marte, Richard King and Alexander Zane

Grayson and Uno hit a series of double team maneuvers on King as the match began. Angels came in and hit a sliced bread on Zane. After a few more multi-man maneuvers from multiple combinations of the Dark Order, Angels hit a frog splash on Marte to pick up the victory.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Kaun

The two started with a strong lockup. The lockup maintained momentum for a bit with both guys getting a chance to overpower the other. Kazarian came off the middle turnbuckle with a crossbody that sent Kaun reeling. After some hesitation, Kazarian tapped out Kaun with a chicken wing submission.

Tay Conti (w/ Anna Jay & -1) defeated Shalonce Royal

Conti tried to start the match with a sunset flip pin, but Royal caught it and turned it into her own pin attempt for a near fall. After hitting a series of running kicks in the corner, Conti hit a piledriver on Royal for the win.

Dark Order (10, John Silver & Alex Reynolds) defeated Jameson Ryan, Brandon Bullock and Foxx Vinyer

Reynolds started off the match. Vinyer came in but got beat down by all three Dark Order members followed by a flexing spot. Bullock was hoisted up and ran through by Silver which gave Dark Order their second win of the night.

Nyla Rose defeated Kiera Hogan

This match, despite being maybe four minutes, was the most competitive of the night.

Rose took the match to the outside and began tossing Hogan into the barricade and ring posts. After a failed pin attempt, Rose motioned to reign down a few strikes on her. Hogan took advantage of a missed knee drop and hit a leg drop for a near fall.

Rose regained composure after the near fall and hit a chokeslam, followed by a spear and a Beast Bomb for the victory.

AEW Women’s Championship match announced for Full Gear

The Women’s title match for Full Gear has been announced.

Tay Conti will face champion Britt Baker at the event, which will take place on November 13 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Baker confirmed the title match on tonight’s show, saying that all Conti has done since coming to AEW is showing off her ass, and at Full Gear, Baker promised that she would beat it.

Conti’s friend, Anna Jay, faced Britt Baker on Friday’s AEW Rampage. Baker won the match, but Rebel and Jamie Hayter, Baker’s associates, jumped Jay after the match, causing Conti to come out to make the save.

Conti previously challenged for the AEW Women’s Championship back on the April 21 edition of Dynamite. However, she was unable to defeat then-champion Hikaru Shida.

Already announced for Full Gear is Kenny Omega defending the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page and the finals of the AEW World title eliminator tournament.

Tay Conti vs. Santana Garrett added to AEW Rampage Buy In pre-show

Tay Conti will take on Santana Garrett on Friday’s Buy In pre-show for AEW Rampage.

Conti will be looking to extend a three-match winning streak while Garrett will be looking for her first win in her second AEW outing. She debuted against Diamante at the recent Dark tapings at Orlando’s Universal Studios, her first action since being released by WWE earlier this year.

The two have been in the ring three times before in NXT with one singles match that Conti won in November 2019.

The match joins Bryan Danielson vs. Minoru Suzuki and Bobby Fish vs. Lee Moriarty on the pre-show, a one-hour special on YouTube that will act as a lead-in for the live Rampage show from Miami.

Here’s the full card for the night:

Rampage Buy In pre-show at 9 PM Eastern:

  • Bryan Danielson vs. Minoru Suzuki
  • Bobby Fish vs. Lee Moriarty
  • Tay Conti vs. Santana Garrett

Rampage at 10 PM Eastern:

  • CM Punk vs. Matt Sydal
  • Ruby Soho vs. The Bunny
  • The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara) vs. Men of the Year (Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page) and Junior dos Santos

AEW Dynamite live results: Two title matches, Page vs. Starks

Two titles will be on the line on tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

Ricky Starks cut a promo ahead of the opener, saying he’d show why people call him “Absolute” Ricky Starks.

Taz joined commentary for the match.

Hangman Page defeated Ricky Starks (w/ HOOK)

This was a well-worked opener that could’ve gone even longer if they wanted.

Top-ranked Page plucked Starks out of midair on a leapfrog for the first offensive maneuver of the match. Starks avoided a springboard clothesline, but Page immediately hit it on the second attempt before following it up with a pescado. A pumphandle fallaway slam from Page got two.

Page tried to follow up the offense, but Starks took control by sending Page windpipe-first into the middle rope. Starks flipped out of a German suplex but springboarded into a lariat. Page landed repeated forearms and another fallaway slam before a brainbuster got a two count.

Starks avoided a sliding lariat and used the ropes to escape the Deadeye, forcing Page up into a powerbomb for a near fall. They fought up top where Page landed a third fallaway slam, this time from an avalanche position. He followed it up with a lariat for a close near fall. Page then went for the Buckshot Lariat, but Starks avoided it and hit a spear for another near fall.

It looked like Starks went for Roshambo, but Page escaped into a reversal sequence. Page then turned it into almost a seated sleeper while wrenching on the ankle, forcing Starks to tap.

– After the match, Taz grabbed a mic and said Page got lucky. He then told Page to watch his back as HOOK came in and took Page out with a chop block. Brian Cage came out and set up for a powerbomb, but Dark Order ran out to make the save.

The Elite was shown arriving at the taping into their own personal trailer.

Abrahantes translated Penta’s pre-match promo, which said that if Orange Cassidy got in Death Triangle’s way, they’d turn him into orange juice.

Penta El Zero Miedo (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Trent? (w/ Orange Cassidy)

This was a fun back-and-forth match until the convoluted finish.

Penta did his glove gimmick early on. They exchanged strikes until a set of high knees from Trent took down Penta. Penta pulled Trent out of the ring and tossed him into the barricade, but Trent popped up and landed a hard lariat and then a wild tope con giro.

Back in the ring, a springboard crossbody and Sling Blade from Penta got two. Trent fought out of the package piledriver and hit a tornado DDT, but Penta popped off the ropes into a destroyer ahead of the commercial break. Once back, Trent countered a backstabber into a half-and-half suplex.

Trent landed a running knee for two. He tried to follow it up in the corner, but Penta kicked his leg out and hit a backstabber for two of his own. Penta then hit a pumphandle driver for a good near fall.

They exchanged chops on the apron until Trent landed a piledriver on the apron. Abrahantes grabbed a mic and distracted Trent, telling him he sicks, his friend sucks, and his momma sucks. Trent grabbed a chair and went after Abrahantes. It looked like Orange Cassidy and Trent had him trapped, but Penta surprised Cassidy with a superkick and then Abrahantes whacked Trent with the microphone, allowing Penta to pick up the win.

The Pinnacle sit-down interview with Jim Ross

This was sensational.

JR asked MJF about Jericho’s famous promo from a couple weeks ago. He talked about how his scarf was old and ragged, but then Wardlow opened a new scarf, a gift from Tully Blanchard.

Wardlow said that Jericho cut one of the best promos of his career, but he stumbled over his words when he got to Wardlow. MJF said Jericho wouldn’t elevate the talent around him, mocking the “Jericho rub.” He said Jericho’s outsmarted everyone in his career except himself.

MJF then exploded, saying he’s not just “great for his age,” he’s great — period. He’s undefeated, and he’s already beaten Jericho. He’s better than Jericho, and Jericho knows it. MJF wants Jericho’s spot, because the Pinnacle is always on top.

A really nice pre-match video played hyping this match. Conti came across extremely likable.

Dark Order joined Conti for her entrance.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) defeated Tay Conti

This was the best match of Conti’s career.

They went into a forearm exchange right away. Conti went for judo throws, but Shida continuously blocked until Conti used the ropes as leverage for a takedown. Conti then hit two soccer kicks for two. She went for a Fujiwara armbar before transitioning into a waistlock chickenwing. Shida reached the ropes to force the break.

Shida avoided a soccer kick on the apron and sent Conti crashing down. She followed it up with the draped running knee. Still on the floor, Shida hit an enziguiri and then a brainbuster before rolling her opponent back into the ring. She applied a bow-and-arrow submission before transitioning into a forearm facelock into a commercial break.

Once back, Shida still maintained control of the match. She broght Conti into the ring the hardway with a suplex over the ropes, but Conti popped up with a pump kick for a double down. Conti landed repeated judo throws and a German suplex. She then placed Shida over the ropes and landed a senton for two.

Conti went for the DD-Tay, but Shida countered with a knee and the Falcon Arrow for two. Conti stopped Shida from hitting the Tamashii before they fought up top. Shida hit a headbutt before dropping Conti over the top turnbuckle with the Witch’s Shot.

Shida went for the Katana but ran into a pump kick. Conti followed it up with the Tay-KO for a close near fall. Shida fought out of the DD-Tay and hit a back-to-belly piledriver for two. Conti landed repeated elbow strikes but was just slapped for her trouble. Shida then hit a backbreaker and the Katana to win and retain the title.

– After the match, Britt Baker’s music played as she pointed out that she’s the top contender, setting up a future title match.

Miro cut a video promo saying it didn’t matter who he fights. The only question is who he beats first.

The Inner Circle are interviewed by Tony Schiavone

Jericho didn’t want to talk about the Pinnacle’s comments from earlier in the evening. Instead, he thanked the crowd and promoted the upcoming Blood and Guts match. Jake Hager pulled out straws and said everyone in the Pinnacle would be sucking food through a straw after Blood and Guts.

Santana pointed out The Pinnacle waits to have backup before they fight, saying that’s a “bitch move.” On May 5, we’ll see if the Pinnacle has heart.

Jericho said MJF has a lot of words but no conviction. Even though MJF can sing showtunes, Jericho can sing showtunes too. He sang a song, which prompted a “swirlie” chant. He said he washed his ass with MJF’s new scarf.

Even though it’s fun to make jokes, Jericho said Blood and Guts would be a show of violence we’d never forget. Next week the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle will meet face to face, and at Blood and Guts, the Inner Circle owns MJF’s ass.

Before the match, Anthony Ogogo called America a dump before Marshall said he’d take care of business.

QT Marshall (w/ The Factory) defeated Billy Gunn

Billy attacked Marshall and co. before the bell before sending Marshall to the floor. Back in the ring, Billy maintained control with power moves and body slams. Out on the floor, Billy continued the attack, but a distraction from the official allowed Comoroto to take Billy down. The Gunn Club attacked from the crowd, leaving Marshall and Billy one-on-one at the ring.

Marshall tried to continue the beatdown, but Billy started to fire up. Marshall just hit a straight piledriver for a close near fall. He mocked DX, so Billy popped up and downed Marshall with clotheslines and a Blue Thunder bomb. Marshall fought out of the Fameasser but Billy fought off the Diamond Cutter.

With the official distracted, Anthony Ogogo ran out and crushed Billy with a gut punch, allowing Marshall to hit a Diamond Cutter and win.

– After the match, Marshall was about to continue the attack on Billy with a chair, but Dustin Rhodes ran out and attacked with a bull rope. Dustin and Ogogo faced off, with Dustin picking up the wooden chair that Marshall was about to use. Comoroto ran out, so Dustin smashed the wooden chair over Comoroto’s head as the segment ended.

The Elite were filmed from their personal trailer. Don Callis introduced everyone before saying Kenny Omega was soon to be the new IMPACT champion. Matt Jackson said the Elite was the reason that business went up in Japan and pointed out that it’s called “All ELITE Wrestling.”

Omega was about to speak, but was interrupted by some honking from outside the trailer. It was Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston in a pickup truck. Moxley floored it and rammed the truck into the Elite’s trailer before walking out with a pipe. The two walked into the trailer, but the Elite were nowhere to be found.

**********

Taz joined commentary for the match, where he revealed that the rest of Team Taz had been banned from ringside.

Christian Cage defeated Powerhouse Hobbs

This was a strong match, better than Christian’s first match against Kazarian.

Hobbs overpowered Christian early on, sending him to the ramp. Christian baited Hobbs to the floor with some slaps, allowing him to hit a diving dropkick, but Hobbs popped up and just leveled him with a lariat. He sent Christian over the barricade and exposed the steel guardrail, grinding Christian’s face into it ahead of the break.

Back from commercial, Christian fought back and immediately went for the Killswitch, but Hobbs muscled his way out of it. He whipped Christian across the ring and went for a Vader bomb, but Christian got his legs up. Christian landed right hands and a pendulum kick before a diving uppercut for two.

Christian followed up the attack with some improvised offense, but Hobbs turned a running attack into a hard spinebuster for a near fall. Christian went for the swinging DDT but transitioned into a powerbomb and a frog splash for two. Hobbs shrugged off a spear attempt with a body block before a corner hip attack got two.

A sleeper attempt caught Hobbs by surprise, but he was able to turn it into perfect position for Town Business. However, Hobbs took time to taunt, and Christian hit the Killswitch to win.

– After the match, Ricky Starks limped out to check on Hobbs as he and Christian stared each other down.

TNT Championship: Darby Allin (w/ Sting) (c) defeated Jungle Boy (w/ Jurassic Express)

They performed technical wrestling early on, with a couple cradle attempts getting near falls. After a Snare Trap attempt, Allin took Jungle Boy down with a Thesz press and repeated right hands. They fought on the floor, where Jungle Boy tackled Allin over the barricade into the ringside seating area.

After the commercial break, Jungle Boy landed a strike combination before tossing Allin into the corner. He then hit a couple suplex bridges for near falls. Allin avoided the rebound lariat and hit a stunner for two. Jungle Boy fought out of a corner attack and hit a crazy move, like a body scissors where Allin bumped like it was a reverse hurricanrana.

Jungle Boy hit repeated topes, landing a tope con giro on the third. He tried to suplex Allin back into the ring, but Allin turned it into a guillotine. Allin then landed a Coffin Drop on the apron. As the referee made his count, Luchasaurus assisted Jungle Boy getting back into the ring, which prompted Sting to pick a fight. They fought all the way up through the tunnel.

Back in the ring, Jungle Boy hit his rebound lariat, a brainbuster, and a running elbow for two. He then applied the Snare Trap. Allin reached the ropes, but Jungle Boy pulled him back out with a rolling Romero special before re-applying the Snare Trap. Allin gouged at Jungle Boy’s eyes to escape the hold.

Jungle Boy battered Allin with ground and pound and hit a sunset flip, but Allin locked on the Last Supper cradle for the sudden win.

– After the match, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page ran out and beat down both competitors. Page killed Allin with the Ego’s Edge, but Lance Archer ran out to make the save. Page and Sky beat down Archer after a low blow, but Sting ran out with a baseball bat and chased them off.

AEW Dynamite live results: Full Gear fallout, PAC returns

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

After defeating Chris Jericho at Full Gear, MJF will be inducted into The Inner Circle tonight. MJF faked being hit by a baseball bat at Full Gear to create an issue between Jericho and referee Aubrey Edwards, allowing MJF to roll Jericho up and pin him while holding the tights.

Natural Nightmares vs. The Butcher and The Blade (w/The Bunny) has been announced. This feud began on AEW Dark where it was revealed that The Bunny had been seducing QT Marshall only to financially ruin him before she returned to her Bunny persona and her real-life husband, The Blade.

An appearance by new number one contender to Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship Kenny Omega was announced earlier today.

A Cody Rhodes promo has also been advertised. Rhodes lost the TNT Championship to Darby Allin at Full Gear.

Penta El Zero M vs. Rey Fenix will take place. The tag partners faced off in the first round of the World title eliminator tournament. Fenix came away with the win, but Penta took his place in the second round against Kenny Omega after Fenix was injured.

Shawn Spears (w/Tully Blanchard) will take on Scorpio Sky. This bout was originally slated for last week, but Sky was pulled from the show due to COVID contact tracing.

Brian Cage vs. Matt Sydal and Tay Conti vs. Red Velvet have also been announced for the show.

Tony Khan has also promised that “the balance of power in wrestling will shift tonight.”

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Dynamite has a fresh presentation package, including a new intro and revised graphics.

Taz opened the show with a promo ahead of Brian Cage’s match against Matt Sydal. He addressed Darby Allin, who was sitting high up in the audience. Taz told Allin not to interfere in the match, and to tell Cody Rhodes the same thing. Taz put over Sydal, and notably said that Sydal has a win over Chris Jericho, which was either a mistake where Taz meant to say “Christopher Daniels” or a reference to their WWE days.

Brian Cage (w/ Taz & Ricky Starks) defeated Matt Sydal

Taz joined commentary. Sydal surprised Cage with a couple kicks. Cage popped up and beat him down with power moves and strikes. Sydal would occasionally hit some hopeful offense, but Cage’s power was too much. Cage taunted Sydal by curling him.

Cage got cocky and attempted a hurricanrana, which Sydal turned into a hurricanrana before hitting a brutal meteora on the ramp. Sydal hit kicks and a standing corkscrew moonsault for two. Cage went for the Drill Claw, but Sydal fought out. Sydal hit a roundhouse kick but was leveled with a lariat before countering out of the Drill Claw into a cradle for a close near fall.

Sydal attempted a top-rope blockbuster, but Cage caught him out of midair right into the Drill Claw for the win.

After the match, Starks cut a promo, emphasizing how he and Cage are both now on the men’s singles rankings. “The revolution will be televised.”

**********

Cody Rhodes made his full entrance and congratulated Darby Allin on his championship victory. Cody will not be seeking a rematch, and instead wants a match with MJF. Some tall bodybuilder woman entered the ring, took the microphone, and accused Cody of lying.

Her name is Jade Cargill, and she called herself the “total package”. She’s been sitting on the sidelines studying her competition. Cargill said that Cody wants to topple giants, but there’s nothing giant about Cody.

Cargill told Cody to keep his thoughts to himself, and told him to watch his back, before sarcastically congratulating him on his name. Cargill said that Cody was too scared to go by just one name, and said that the giant she’s representing was Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal).

Brandi Rhodes came out and tore into Cargill, but Cargill was unfazed. Cargill gave Brandi a lovetap on the way out before Jerry Lynn came out to prevent the fight.

With Cody distracted, Cage re-entered the ring and laid him out. He and Starks attacked Cody, but Allin’s music played, and he made the save. Cody’s music played as Will Hobbs made his way out to even the odds.

**********

Alex Marvez interviewed Jon Moxley. When Moxley came to AEW he wasn’t interested in championships, but now, the world title represents every single one of the fans. He has a big challenge ahead with Kenny Omega. He’s beaten Omega once, but beating him twice is another story.

They announced that Moxley will the AEW World Championship against Omega in three weeks, on the December 2 episode of Dynamite. It was billed as the “biggest match in Dynamite history.”

Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall) defeated The Butcher & The Blade (w/ Allie) in a Bunkhouse Match

This was tons of fun.

There are no disqualifications or countouts in a Bunkhouse match. Everyone in the match was wearing jeans and there were props next to the stage.

Marshall attacked before the bell and the Natural Nightmares worked over their opponents on the floor. Dustin hit the Final Reckoning on Blade through a chair. Bunny distracted them, and Blade smashed a guitar over Marshall’s head as Dustin grabbed a bullrope. Dustin set up to use the rope but was leveled with a chair shot from Butcher.

The camera cut to Marshall, who was bloodied. Bunny handcuffed Dustin to the ropes. It was all Butcher and Blade during the commercial break as Dustin was helpless and Marshall was incapacitated.

A ladder and a kendo stick were introduced during the break. Dustin grabbed the kendo stick, so Blade tackled him, but in the process, Dustin was set free from the cuffs. He made a one-man comeback after flipping off his opponents.

Dustin and Butcher fought with weapons abnd brawled over to a staging area. Marshall blinded Butcher with a fire extinguisher, allowing Dustin to bulldog him through a plywood structure.

Back in the ring, Blade had been opened up badly. Marshall and Blade’s relationship with Allie/Bunny was the focus of this feud, so they brawled in the ring before Marshall cracked him with a trashcan. Marshall climbed a ladder and hit an elbow drop from the top, but Blade got his shoulder up at two.

Butcher and Dustin made their way back into the fight as the latter hit signature offense before they whiffed on a Code Red. Butcher and Blade hit the Full Death through chairs, but Marshall broke up the pin. Marshall hit a chain-assisted Diamond Cutter on Butcher and Blade into Bunny, which sent her through a table. Dustin nailed Blade with a cowbell and Marshall hit the cutter for the win.

Matt Hardy cut a promo from his compound. He said that Sammy Guevara earned his respect through all the violence and that Guevara will be a big star.

MJF’s Inner Circle Induction Ceremony

There was a podium set up in the ring. Chris Jericho came out, addressed the crowd, and invited out the original Inner Circle first. Hager, Santana, and Ortiz came out without Guevara, but Jericho brushed it off.

Next were MJF and Wardlow, both of whom are being inducted into the Inner Circle. MJF took the podium and acted all emotional, saying he overcame the adversity of a one million dollar loan and handled the burden of being the ratings champion. He then read a prepared poem, but he was just plagiarazing the rapper Drake’s song “All Me”.

Santana and Ortiz got heated, but Jericho calmed everyone down and said the Inner Circle would be stronger than ever, imploring everyone to make it work.

MJF said they weren’t just here to celebrate his induction, they were also celebrating Jericho’s birthday as confetti and balloons rained down. He announced that the Inner Circle was headed to Las Vegas next week, and the trip was on him, before singing “Happy Birthday” to close the segment.

**********

Alex Marvez interviewed the Young Bucks. In a funny moment, he flinched when their dressing room opened, expecting to be superkicked. The Bucks called the tag championships the biggest achievement of their career.

Matt mentioned that they received a message from Top Flight, the high-flying team of brothers that’s appeared on Dark, and then Matt granted them a tag team championship opportunity next week.

**********

Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated Scorpio Sky

This was the culmination of a feud. They traded big moves early on. Ahead of the commercial, Sky went for a dive, but Spears sprung up and suplexed him.

Back from break, Sky fought out of C4 and hit a plancha and a slingshot cutter. Spears had set up stairs on the outside. Sky attempted a diving clothesline off of them, but Spears kicked him out of the air before dropping Sky with a sidewalk slam onto the stairs.

Spears went for the TKO, but Spears turned it into a sharpshooter. Tully dropped Spears’ Kevlar slug gimmick in the corner and distracted the referee and Sky. Spears crushed Sky with a steel slug inserted into his left glove, and that was enough to get the three count.

**********

During the previous match, Cody Rhodes & Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage & Ricky Starks of Team Taz was announced for next week’s Dynamite.

**********

Dasha Gonzalez had been sitting with Kenny Omega for an interview, but Omega left in a hurry. They cut to Alex Marvez, who had caught up to Omega outside. Marvez asked for Omega’s thoughts on being the next world championship challenger.

Omega said that he needs the championship to live up to the standards of the Kenny Omega we saw in New Japan. He’s ready to assume the responsibility of being world champion, and noted that despite their previous encounter, this is the first official match between him and Moxley. He closed the interview with an intriguing cliffanger: Omega has a flight to catch.

**********

Tay Conti (w/ Anna Jay) defeated Red Velvet (w/ Brandi Rhodes)

Conti took control with judo throws before a commercial break. Velvet came back with clotheslines and a cazadora bulldog before following it up with double knees and a stunner for two.

They downed each other with double roundhouse kicks. Jay slipped a chair to Conti, but Conti didn’t want to cheat, and she kicked it out of the ring. Velvet surprised her with a leg lariat for a near fall, but missed a dropkick. Conti followed with a pump kick and a Gory Special transitioned into a knee strike for the victory.

**********

Alex Marvez interviewed Jericho, MJF, and the rest of the Inner Circle. They celebrated with their tickets to Las Vegas. Sammy Guevara approached. Guevara missed the induction ceremony because he didn’t get a follow-up email about where it would take place, but MJF was adamant he sent it.

**********

They replayed the Best Friends/Sabian & Miro angle from Full Gear and announced Kip Sabian vs. Orange Cassidy for next week.

**********

Eddie Kingston cut a promo. Even though he said “I quit,” he will never stop wrestling and will become world champion. Penta vs. Fénix is next, and all Kingston can say to the fans is “you’re welcome.”

Penta El Zero Miedo defeated Rey Fénix

This was a very good match but it wasn’t quite as great as their previous encounter.

Kingston joined commentary and they teased dissension as Kingston clearly favors Penta. The Lucha Bros traded kicks right away. They traded cradles before Fénix sent Penta outside with a hurricanrana. Fénix set up for a dive, but Penta backdropped him to the floor. Penta tore at his brother’s mask and flattened him with a thrust kick.

A lot of Fénix’s face was exposed during and after Penta’s attack on his mask. Schiavone accused Kingston of breaking up a great tag team. They brawled outside during the break and Penta maintained control of the match.

Penta set up for the package piledriver but Fénix turned it into a cradle. Fénix hit a handspring cutter before returning the favor and ripping his brother’s mask. We just about saw Penta’s entire face. They traded headbutts and Penta hit a flipping DDT for two.

A tijeras sent Penta outside before Fénix laid him out with a tornillo dive. Fénix hit a senton atomico for two. They fought on the apron as Penta hit the package piledriver right on the ring frame. On the floor, Penta hit a destroyer.

Back in the ring, Penta hit a second package piledriver for the win.

**********

Kingston immediately grabbed a microphone and congratulated Penta before pushing Fénix out of the ring. He said that Penta doesn’t need that dead weight.

He was interrupted by the returning PAC, who said that the Bastard is back and that Kingston made a bad mistake. Officials came out to prevent the brawl.

It was announced that PAC will make his in-ring return on next week’s Dynamite, facing The Blade.

Bunkhouse match, Red Velvet vs. Tay Conti set for AEW Dynamite

Three matches have been announced for this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

Already announced on this week’s episode, Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall) vs. The Butcher and The Blade will now be a bunkhouse match. No further details as to what that stipulation represents were announced. In storyline, The Bunny, formerly Allie, pretended to be romantically interested in Marshall. After maxing out Marshall’s credit cards, Allie supposedly returned to her real-life husband, The Blade.

In women’s division action, Tay Conti will take on Red Velvet. Velvet, who is coming off a loss to Nyla Rose on this week’s Dynamite, will have Brandi Rhodes in her corner.

The Lucha Bros will also face off in a singles match as Rey Fenix faces Penta El Zero M. The two met in the first round of the AEW World title eliminator tournament on October 21. Fenix was victorious but was also injured in the match. As a result, Penta took his place in the tournament semifinals against Kenny Omega.

AEW Dynamite airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern time on TNT.
