The Elite to defend Trios titles on AEW Rampage

The Elite will defend the AEW Trios titles for the first time on Friday’s Rampage.

Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks will put the titles on the line against The Firm’s Ethan Page, Matt Hardy & Isiah Kassidy following a backstage segment of sorts on Wednesday’s Dynamite:

The show will also see Shane Strickland in action against Brian Pillman Jr. Strickland will be looking for his fifth straight singles win while Pillman Jr. will attempt to snap a three-match win streak.

Ahead of his match next Wednesday against Bryan Danielson, Rush will take on Christopher Daniels for the first time ever in a battle of former ROH Champions.

The newly-turned heel tag team of Saraya & Toni Storm will be in action against opponents to be named. The two attacked Britt Baker backstage on Wednesday.

Here’s the current lineup that is being taped after Wednesday’s Dynamite in Dayton, Ohio:

AEW adds stipulations to remaining Death Triangle/Elite best-of-seven matches

AEW has announced stipulations for the remaining matches in the best-of-seven series between The Elite and Death Triangle.

Next week’s match will be no disqualification. If the series continues, match 6 on the December 28 edition of Dynamite in Denver, Colorado will be a falls count anywhere match. And if a seventh match is required on January 11 in Los Angeles, that will be a Escalera de la Muerte (ladder) match.

Death Triangle currently lead The Elite 3-1 in their best-of-seven series. On Wednesday’s Dynamite, Death Triangle scored the win after Penta El 0 M used the ring bell hammer to once again score the win for his team. After the match, Kenny Omega cut a promo challenging Death Triangle to a no DQ match. The team accepted.

Death Triangle picked up the first two wins, defeating The Elite upon their return at Full Gear last month, then defeated them again on November 23. On the November 30 edition of Dynamite, The Elite picked up the first win for their team. The winners of the series will walk away with the AEW World Trios titles.

People close to CM Punk ‘were not happy’ about AEW Dynamite six-man tag

People close to CM Punk were not happy about what happened during The Elite vs. Death Triangle match on Dynamite.

Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks mocked Punk and referenced the backstage altercation from All Out 2022 throughout the match. Our own Dave Meltzer addressed the reaction some had to this on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“I know that there’s people close to CM Punk that were, boy, they were not happy with that six-man tag match,” Meltzer said on the show.

AEW Dynamite on Wednesday took place in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. References The Elite made to Punk include Omega using the GTS on Pac, performing Punk’s “go to sleep” taunt, biting Pac’s arm, and Matt Jackson mocking Punk’s failed Buckshot Lariat attempts.

Omega would later post to social media thanking KENTA after using the GTS.

Before Dynamite, Omega spoke with SI.com and encouraged fans to “let it go” regarding the situation between Punk and The Elite.

“There are things no one can talk about, so I’d encourage people to let it go,” says Omega. “It doesn’t change that we want a team effort in AEW. I don’t even mean implicitly myself and my opponent. It also means the referee, the fans, the people who set up the ring, everyone–even a technical error can ruin the memory of a match. I can refer back to the exploding barbed wire death match. So I encourage people to move away from it because there is no information to be released. Though I cannot talk about it, I do want the fans to know I still want the best for pro wrestling.”

The Elite mock CM Punk, reference backstage altercation on AEW Dynamite

The Elite mocked CM Punk while referencing their backstage altercation with the former AEW World Champion on Wednesday’s Dynamite in Chicago.

Kenny Omega used Punk’s Go To Sleep finishing move, his GTS taunt, and bit PAC on the arm during The Elite vs. Death Triangle best-of-seven series match on Dynamite, referencing Punk’s friend and former AEW producer Ace Steel reportedly biting Omega during a backstage altercation following the infamous media scrum at All Out in September.

The GTS:

The GTS taunt:

Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks also mocked Punk stumbling on a Buckshot Lariat attempt in his match against Hangman Page at Double or Nothing:

The Elite entered to a mixed reaction from the Chicago crowd on Dynamite, and dueling “f— The Elite” and “f— CM Punk” chants rang out during their trios bout.

Death Triangle defeated The Elite in the contest to go up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series for the Trios titles.

Kenny Omega says it’s not The Elite ‘against CM Punk,’ encourages fans to ‘let it go’

Kenny Omega wants fans to know that the situation in AEW isn’t “Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks against CM Punk.”

Ahead of AEW Dynamite from Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Omega spoke with SI.com and noted that he is unable to address speculation stemming from the backstage altercation at All Out 2022. He also encouraged fans to “move away from it because there is no information to be released.”

“This isn’t Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks against CM Punk,” Omega continued. “It is people trying to show off their craft. You can boo Kenny Omega, or the Young Bucks, or CM Punk, but I hope people don’t forget we’re human beings struggling to show our art.”

Omega also spoke about returning to NJPW to face Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

“I’m returning to New Japan as an ambassador of AEW,” says Omega. “I’m returning to New Japan as an ambassador of pro wrestling. I’m also returning home. I left to start this new, exciting opportunity, but it’s still home. Now the things Will can do are things I cannot. He’s an athletic phenom. But as finely tuned as he is physically, he still hasn’t doesn’t have the knowledge or experience. I pushed my own physical boundaries in All Japan and DDT, but that’s not what I’m known for. My mind is my greatest asset, not my athleticism. That’s what’s allowed [Hiroshi] Tanahashi to have such a long and flavorful career.

“I needed someone to take my place in New Japan, I wanted someone to take my place–and it was Will, Jay [White], and [Kota] Ibushi. Will is the only one to have a problem with that.”

Death Triangle vs. The Elite best-of-seven series announced for AEW Dynamite

A best-of-seven series for the World Trios Championship has been announced for AEW Dynamite.

It was revealed during Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view that the Death Triangle vs. The Elite match at Full Gear was the first in a best-of-seven series for the AEW World Trios Championship, with the next bout set for Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Death Triangle defeated The Elite at Full Gear to go up 1-0 in the series.

The announced schedule for the series:

  • Match 1: Full Gear, Death Triangle leads 1-0
  • Match 2: November 23, AEW Dynamite in Chicago, Illinois
  • Match 3: December 7, AEW Dynamite in Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Match 4: December 14, AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming in Garland, Texas
  • Match 5: December 21, AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash in San Antonio, Texas (if necessary)
  • Match 6: December 28, AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash in Denver, Colorado (if necessary)
  • Match 7: January 14, AEW Dynamite in Los Angeles (if necessary)

Here is the updated lineup for the November 23 Dynamite:

  • ROH World Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs against Tomohiro Ishii
  • AEW World title eliminator tournament finals: Ethan Page vs. Ricky Starks
  • AEW All-Atlantic Championship: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Jake Hager
  • Match two in Death Triangle and The Elite’s best-of-seven series for the AEW World Trios Championship

The Elite return at AEW Full Gear, lose Trios title match

The Elite are back in AEW — but Death Triangle are still the Trios Champions.

In their first match in more than two months, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks unsuccessfully challenged for the AEW Trios titles at Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view. PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix retained after Fenix gave in and cheated to get the win.

After initially refusing to use a hammer when PAC wanted him to, Fenix struck Omega with the hammer and pinned him to get the victory. Omega was going for the One Winged Angel, but PAC put the hammer in Fenix’s hand. When Omega lifted Fenix up, Fenix hit him with the hammer.

Death Triangle became AEW Trios Champions after The Elite were stripped of the titles this September. The Elite were crowned the inaugural champions at All Out, but they had to vacate the titles following their involvement in the post-All Out brawl.

AEW’s investigation into CM Punk and The Elite’s backstage fight concluded last month with The Elite being brought back but CM Punk expected to exit the company.

At Full Gear, The Young Bucks & Omega entered to the song “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas. The Young Bucks filed a trademark for “The Wayward Sons” on November 3, but they recently abandoned the trademark application.

There were “F*ck CM Punk” and “Colt Cabana” chants by the crowd during Death Triangle vs. The Elite.

The Elite vs. Death Triangle announced for AEW Full Gear

The Elite are officially set to make their return at Full Gear this Saturday.

After Death Triangle successfully defended the AEW Trios titles against Top Flight and AR Fox, PAC cut a promo saying they knew what all the videos were about, referring to The Elite’s recent videos teasing a return. PAC said if they wanted to make a return, they could do it at Full Gear. After PAC cut his promo, a Full Gear graphic appeared on the video screen, with The Elite visibly appearing next to Death Triangle.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega were suspended from AEW after they, CM Punk, and Ace Steel were involved in a fight following Punk’s comments from a media scrum held after All Out in September. Following an investigation, The Elite have since been reinstated, and videos teasing their return have aired in recent weeks.

Here is the updated lineup for Full Gear:

AEW Full Gear, Saturday, November 19 on pay-per-view —

  • AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. MJF
  • ROH World Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Sammy Guevara vs. Claudio Castagnoli
  • Interim AEW Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Jamie Hayter
  • AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) (c) vs. Swerve In Our Glory (Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee)
  • AEW Trios Championship: Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El 0 M, and Rey Fenix) vs. The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks)
  • Steel Cage: Luchasaurus vs. Jungle Boy
  • TBS Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Nyla Rose
  • Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal vs. Sting & Darby Allin
  • Saraya vs. Britt Baker
  • AEW World title eliminator tournament finals

Kenny Omega, Young Bucks tease appearance at AEW Full Gear

The latest tease from The Elite indicates they may appear at AEW Full Gear on November 19.

Wednesday’s tease had images of the Full Gear graphics shown as pictures from The Elite’s past were shown in rapid succession., as well as images from the trio growing up. A clock was shown starting to tick towards the end of the video.

Teases for The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega’s return have been shown in recent weeks on AEW television. The first promo showed pictures of big moments in AEW history the trio was involved in, but in each still frame they were shown vanishing, with the final image showing the AEW logo disappearing.

The Elite, along with CM Punk and Ace Steel, were suspended from the company following the AEW All Out media scrum in September after a fight broke out. It was eventually reported that AEW and CM Punk were negotiating a buyout from Punk’s contract, and Steel was released from the company following an investigation.
