Daniel Garcia wins ROH Pure Championship on AEW Dynamite

Daniel Garcia is the new ROH Pure Champion.

Garcia defeated Wheeler Yuta on Wednesday’s Rampage to win the championship for the first time. The finish of the match had Garcia lock in the dragon tamer. Yuta attempted to escape, but Garcia continued to wrench in the submission, eventually forcing Yuta to tap and winning the title in his hometown of Buffalo, New York.

After the match, the two shook hands as Bryan Danielson entered the ring. He put the title around Garcia’s waist. Chris Jericho appeared on the ramp, angry over what was going down as Garcia and Danielson shook hands.

In recent weeks, Garcia has been conflicted over what he wants to do, continue being a sports entertainer with the Jericho Appreciation Society, or embrace being a pro wrestler. On a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, Garcia told Jericho that he wanted to remain a part of the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, Garcia took a steel chair from Jericho after Jericho came to the ring to attack Danielson later in the show, allowing Danielson to lay out Jericho.

Also set for next week’s Dynamite, The Young Bucks will team with a mystery partner against Andrade El Idolo, Rush, and Dragon Lee in an AEW World Trios title tournament match.

The Bucks approached Hangman Page and asked him to be their partner on this week’s Dynamite, but Page declined, stating he will be in Dark Order’s corner for the tournament, but will not be competing.

New top contender to the AEW Women’s World Championship Toni Storm will also be in action on next week’s Dynamite, facing KiLynn King.

Bryan Danielson cleared to return, will face Daniel Garcia on AEW Dynamite

After a two-month absence, Bryan Danielson has been cleared to return to the ring.

During an AEW panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, Danielson announced that he’s been cleared to return to in-ring action as of this morning. Danielson revealed that he’ll be facing Daniel Garcia on Wednesday’s Fight for the Fallen edition of Dynamite.

Danielson hasn’t wrestled since suffering what’s believed to have been a concussion during the Anarchy in the Arena match at May’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Danielson’s injury kept him from competing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. It also prevented Danielson from being part of this year’s Blood & Guts match.

Danielson was supposed to face NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr. at the Forbidden Door PPV. The debuting Claudio Castagnoli took Danielson’s place at the PPV and defeated Sabre.

Prior to Chris Jericho and Eddie Kingston’s barbed wire everywhere match this past Wednesday, Danielson sent out a tweet saying that he’s coming after both Jericho and Kingston when he’s able to wrestle again.

“One of these men takes credit for injuring me and the other one is the man I actually blame for it,” Danielson tweeted. “Excited to see them destroy each other… and when I get back I’ll kick both their heads in.”

Garcia is a member of the Jericho Appreciation Society. Garcia unsuccessfully challenged Danielson’s Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Wheeler Yuta for the ROH Pure Championship at Death Before Dishonor on Saturday.

The DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts is hosting Wednesday’s Dynamite. The updated card for the episode is listed below:

  • Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Rush
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa defends against Miyu Yamashita
  • FTW Champion Ricky Starks defends against Danhausen
  • Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia
  • Handicap match: Swerve Strickland vs. Tony Nese & “Smart” Mark Sterling (Keith Lee is banned from ringside)

Daniel Garcia says Triple H welcomed him ‘to the team’ after WWE tryout

Daniel Garcia says Triple H welcomed him to the team after his WWE tryout last year.

Garcia was a guest on Talk is Jericho recently and spoke about participating in a camp at the WWE Performance Center in early 2021.

“I had a WWE tryout in January of last year, so 2021 and I had a match on NXT right after the tryout,” he said on the show.

“I did the camp and honestly, I crushed it. The promo was phenomenal, well I thought it was at the time, looking back it probably wasn’t. At the time, I liked it. I had a really good practice match. It was only me, one other indie guy, and then a bunch of football players.”

“I thought I did really well. They asked me to stay an extra day to have a squash match on NXT against Tyler Rust, his name was in Diamond Mine. The match went really well. I remember I went through the back and Shawn Michaels loved it, Road Dogg loved it, A-Train loved it, Triple H shook my hand and said ‘Welcome to the team.’ I think he thought I was signed but I wasn’t at the time. In my mind, I’m like, ‘I guess I’m going to NXT. Mom, I’m moving to Orlando!”

“I talked to Canyon Ceman right before I left. He said, ‘Let me know if any other place has interest because we’ll sign you sooner.’ In my mind. I’m like, that’s disrespectful to me. If you want to sign me, just sign me.”

“At the time, I had interest from Ring of Honor and I knew AEW wanted to bring me back in for extra work but I was, like, I’m gonna make this seem bigger than it actually is. So I said to him, ‘Well, with that being said,, I’ll talk to you very soon.’ I think he got kind of hot at me for that, I think that shook him up a little bit. They emailed me a couple weeks later, kind of saying like, ‘We’re gonna stay in contact blah, blah, blah’, and then that kind of made me mad. Then I went on a crazy Indie run and I signed with AEW.”

Garcia also commented on the Anarchy in the Arena match from Double or Nothing receiving a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“I got up and I started beating my chest,” Garcia said of his reaction to finding out the match’s star rating. “I got real excited because that’s an accomplishment that when you grow up in my era of wrestling fans, I grew up in the internet wrestling community and star ratings and Meltzer, that was all very important to my generation of people. So, once I found out I got a five-star rating, I’m like, ‘man, that’s a cool thing to check off my bucket list.'”

“It’s cool to know that if I never get another five-star match ever again, I got one. It’s cool to kind of get it out of the way a little bit.”

Jon Moxley vs. Daniel Garcia added to AEW Dynamite

The battle between members of the Blackpool Combat Club and the Jericho Appreciation Society will continue this Wednesday.

Tony Khan on Twitter announced that Daniel Garcia will face Jon Moxley in a singles match.

“Following the epic Anarchy in the Arena, JAS will again fight BCC!” Khan wrote. “At Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite’s LA debut, one of wrestling’s top stars for the future battles one of wrestling’s biggest stars: @GarciaWrestling vs. @JonMoxley LIVE on @TBSNetwork @ 8pm ET/7pm CT Tomorrow Night!”

Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz met the Jericho Appreciation Society in an Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing this past Sunday. In a wild brawl that saw the two teams brawl all over the arena, the finish saw Danielson and Eddie Kingston going at it after Kingston inadvertently soaked Danielson with gasoline that was intended for Jericho. This allowed the JAS to make their comeback, with Jericho scoring the submission win over Danielson with the Walls of Jericho as Jake Hager strangled Danielson with a ring rope, with Danielson passing out.

Here is the lineup so far for Dynamite, which will take place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles:

  • Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Matt Hardy, and Christian Cage vs. Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and The Young Bucks
  • Jon Moxley vs. Daniel Garcia

AEW’s Daniel Garcia once discussed to join Blackpool Combat Club

AEW’s Blackpool Combat Club could have looked slightly different had it not been for Chris Jericho.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that there was talk of Garcia joining the faction at one point after Bryan Danielson first mentioned the possibility of a superteam with Jon Moxley.

During that Dynamite promo, Danielson also mentioned Wheeler Yuta and Lee Moriarty. Yuta was inducted following his loss to Moxley on the April 8th Rampage while Moriarty is still aligned with Matt Sydal.

Meltzer said that “Chris Jericho personally picked Garcia to join the Jericho Appreciation Society,” negating his inclusion in the BCC.

Jericho’s new group was formed in the weeks following Revolution as part of the dissolvement of the Inner Circle with Santana, Ortiz, Jake Hager and Sammy Guevara. Hager came with him, along with Garcia and the former 2point0 with the faction focusing on being sports entertainers vs. pro wrestlers.

Garcia was signed to a full-time deal in October 2021.

Jericho Appreciation Society commencement added to AEW Dynamite

A segment featuring AEW’s newest faction has been added to this week’s Dynamite.

Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite will feature the “Jericho Appreciation Society commencement.” The group, which formed last week, consists of Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, 2point0 (Matt Lee & Jeff Parker), and Daniel Garcia.

Jericho and Hager turned against their former Inner Circle stablemates Santana and Ortiz last week and joined 2point0 and Garcia in beating down Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz.

The turn came after Jericho lost to Kingston at Revolution.

This Wednesday’s Dynamite is a special St. Patrick’s Day Slam edition of the show. It’s taking place in San Antonio, Texas and is being headlined by Thunder Rosa challenging for Britt Baker’s AEW Women’s World Championship in a steel cage match.

The updated lineup for the episode is listed below:

  • Steel cage match: AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defends against Thunder Rosa
  • TNT Champion Scorpio Sky defends against Wardlow
  • AEW World Champion Hangman Page & AEW Tag Team Champions Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus vs. Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly
  • Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson (w/ William Regal) vs. Chuck Taylor & Wheeler Yuta (w/ Orange Cassidy and Danhausen)
