First two matches revealed for The Last Time Is Now tournament

The first two matches in The Last Time is Now tournament have been announced.

During Raw, Adam Pearce was shown with a tumbler machine, revealing that later in the night he would be picking names and announcing the first matches in the tournament that will start on next week’s Raw in Boston. Towards the end of the show, the first matches were revealed: Shinsuke Nakamura will take on Sheamus while Rusev will battle Damian Priest.

Pearce additionally announced that the next matches in the tournament will be drawn by Nick Aldis this Friday on SmackDown.

John Cena announced the Last Time is Now tournament during Saturday Night’s Main Event this past weekend. Cena explained that the 16-man tournament will take place over the next few weeks featuring talent from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. He even hinted that people outside of the company may take part. The winner of the tournament will earn the right to face him in his final match, which is set for the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C..

Cena is scheduled for this Monday’s Raw in Boston, which will mark the final time he’s in his home area prior to his retirement.

Rey Mysterio returns, faces off with Dominik on WWE Raw

Rey Mysterio is back, and has had enough of his son’s actions.

The former World Champion officially returned on Monday’s Raw, confronting his son Dominik who was in the ring. Mysterio took issue with the idea that Dominik considers himself the greatest luchador of all time, mentioning names like El Santo, Blue Demon, and Eddie Guerrero. Dominik said that he’s better than all of them, and is better than his father. Mysterio told Dominik he wanted to make things clear: as long as he’s around Dominik is not the best luchador, this will never be his ring, and is not the best Mysterio.

Dominik started to walk away but went in for a cheap shot. Mysterio countered by going in on the attack, hitting a 619. He went to do a top rope splash but Dominik was able to escape, ending the segment.

Mysterio sustained a groin injury on the final SmackDown prior to WrestleMania 41. In the time since then, he has made appearances on AAA programming in a non-wrestling role. When Dominik won the AAA Mega Championship, he put the championship around his son’s waist, following through on a bet he made with his son earlier in the night.

Logan Paul returns on WWE Raw, sides with top group

Logan Paul has resurfaced.

The former United States Champion made his return on Raw, wanting a shot at CM Punk’s World Heavyweight title. This caused the ire of The Vision, who laid claim to the title. The confrontation ended with a brawl, with Paul being taken out by a Tsunami before Punk chased the heels away with a steel chair. Later in the night, Punk and Jey Uso battled The Vision even after their match ended in a double count out. Paul came out to seemingly return the favor, but instead knocked out Punk with his brass knuckles, handing them to Paul Heyman to end the show.

The opening to Monday’s Raw saw new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk come out and challenge anyone from the back who has earned it to come out and challenge him, mentioning John Cena and Sheamus as potiental opponents. This brought out Paul, who Punk immediately rejected. He told Paul to go to SmackDown and challenge Ilja Dragunov. Paul responded by comparing himself to a Ferrari while he called Punk a used Honda Civic.

The Vision came out and interrupted their argument, with Heyman telling Paul to go to the back of the line because the front belonged to Reed and Breakker. Paul said he was there first. The confrontation eventually got physical with The Vision attacking Punk and shoving down Paul, who reacted by going after Reed and Breakker. Reed proceeded to lay Paul out with a Tsunami. The segment ended once Punk entered the ring with a steel chair, driving The Vision away.

Paul was last seen at WWE Clash in Paris back in August, losing to John Cena. He also wrestled earlier that month, teaming with Drew McIntyre to defeat Randy Orton and Jelly Roll.

A note on surprises for next year’s WWE Royal Rumble

It’s possible any surprises for the Royal Rumble next year may not be much of a surprise.

Bryan Alvarez notes that with WWE’s annual event taking place in Saudi Arabia this coming January, any surprises set to take place on the show would be hard to hide.

“There is a feeling that we might not get Royal Rumble surprises this year if only for the fact that sneaking people into Saudi Arabia will be a lot harder,” he writes. “Most likely surprises would take place the week prior at SNME.”

WWE announced over the weekend that they will be heading to Montreal for a January edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event one week prior to Royal Rumble weekend, which will be held for the first time ever in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Surprises are commonplace in both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. Notable ones from last year include the returning Alexa Bliss, Trish Stratus, streamer iShowSpeed, Joe Hendry from TNA, and Jordynne Grace, who had just signed with WWE after previously appearing in the Rumble as the TNA Knockouts Champion.

WWE’s website reveals shortened name for SmackDown star

WWE’s website has adjusted Zelina Vega’s name.

When looking at WWE’s roster page, it is now shown that Vega is simply being referred to as ‘Zelina’ moving forward, with no mention of her last name. This comes as she has taken on a new role of managing real-life husband Aleister Black.

Back on October 10, Zelina interfered in the Last Man Standing match between Aleister Black and Damian Priest, allowing Black to throw a fireball at Priest’s face and win the match. Since then, the two have appeared in vignettes solidifying their on-screen presence together.

The two have been married since 2018, but have not been involved in a storyline together until now.

Prior to the new role, Zelina had been pushed as a singles star on the SmackDown brand, winning the Women’s United States title from Chelsea Green in April. She would go on to lose the title to Giulia in June, and ultimately failed to regain it afterwards. She had also been previously associated with the LWO, but was moved over to the SmackDown brand in January.

Latin American title match set for AAA Guerra de Titanes

A new title match is set for Guerra de Titanes.

After Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. retained the title during Sunday’s AAA Day of the Dead television taping, Ethan Page ran in and jumped Wagner from behind. He told Wagner that he already beat him in his country in front of his people, and now he was going to do it in front of Dr. Wagner’s people. He claimed he would take the Latin American title, and would see him in Guadalajara on December 20.

Backstage, Wagner reacted to the attack while Ethan Page promised to become a triple champion on social media. Earlier in the night, Page and Chelsea Green teamed together to defeat Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra to win the AAA Mixed Tag Team titles for the first time.

The two have been feuding on NXT for the last several weeks, culminating in a Day of the Dead match that took place at Halloween Havoc. Page emerged as the winner, retaining the NXT North American title.

New Mixed Tag Team Champions crowned during AAA tapings

New champions have been crowned in AAA.

Ethan Page and Chelsea Green defeated Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra during Sunday’s AAA television taping in Monterrey to win the AAA Mixed Tag Team titles for the first time. The finish had Green pinning Hiedra to win the titles for her team. The match is scheduled to air next week in Mexico.

This ends the reign of Hierda and Iguana after nearly a year. They first won the titles by defeating TNA’s Decay (Crazzy Steve and Havok) back on December 8, 2024.

After the match, Lola Vice came out to console Iguana after the two were seen talking together earlier in the night. Hiedra didn’t like this and ended up slapping Iguana, officially ending their relationship. This left Vice to comfort Iguana in the ring.

The new champions celebrated their win backstage, which was shown on WWE’s socials.

Last month, Green had issued the challenge for AAA’s Day of the Dead event, reuniting with NXT North American Champion Ethan Page. The two teamed up to defeat Tavion Heights and Tyra Mae Steele at NXT Heatwave back in August.

Former Wes Lee set for Pro Wrestling Revolver return

The former Wes Lee has another booking.

Pro Wrestling Revolver announced that Dezmond Xavier would be part of their upcoming Season Finale event on December 13 in Clive, Iowa. This would be Xavier’s first Wrestling Revolver event since 2019, prior to signing with WWE.

Last week, it was announced that Lee would be returning to House of Glory on November 15 as part of their Superclash event in New York.

Lee, 36, was part of a group of cuts that took place on October 10 that also included other NXT and WWE ID talent. All had 30-day no-compete clauses in their contracts.

He had been signed to WWE since 2020, first as a team with Zachary Wentz known as MSK, winning the NXT Tag Team titles. When Wentz was released, Xavier continued on and a singles wrestler, winning the NXT North American Championship. He had recently formed a stable called High Ryze with Tyson Dupont and Tyriek Igwe, but the group had not been emphasized prior to Xaiver’s release.

Report: Update on MJF’s filming status

An update on MJF.

Fightful Select is reporting that the former AEW World Champion is set to finish filming for Violent Night 2 “relatively soon,” though it isn’t known when he is set to return to television. According to the report, MJF has “the acting bug” and has spoken about how much he’s enjoyed filming.

MJF hasn’t been seen on AEW television since losing to Mark Briscoe in a tables & thumbtacks match at All Out. In a promo that aired after his loss, he said he would leave and not come back until he’s one of the most dangerous men in the business. He said he would take his spot at the top, and he would do it his way.

Prior to his departure, MJF had goaded Hangman Page into defending his AEW World title against him without having to use his contract he won at All In, but failed to capture it at Forbidden Door thanks to a distraction from Mark Briscoe. That led to the match at All Out, where Briscoe emerged victorious.,

In addition to his role in Violent Night 2, MJF also played Lance Von Erich in The Iron Claw. He had a more prominent role in Happy Gilmore 2 playing the titular character’s son.

CM Punk wins World Heavyweight title at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

A new World Heavyweight Champion has been crowned.

CM Punk won his seventh world title on Saturday, defeating Jey Uso to win the title for a second time. The finish of the back-and-forth bouth had Punk hitting two GTS on Uso, covering him for the win. The final moments of the show saw Punk celebrate with his newly-won title as pyro went off.

After the show ended, Punk posted a picture of himself with new WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, and NXT Champion Ricky Starks. Notably, they all worked together during Punk’s brief time in AEW.

“Look at us,” the caption reads.

WWE’s socials also posted footage of Rhodes putting the title around Punk’s waist.

Punk won a number one contendership match to earn a title match against Seth Rollins that was set to take place on Saturday. However, following Crown Jewel, The Vision shockingly turned against Rollins, writing him off television to deal with a shoulder injury suffered at the PLE. A battle royal was held the following week to determine Punk’s opponent for SNME that was won by Uso.

Previously winning the title at SummerSlam after a hard-fought match against Gunther, Punk’s first title reign ended in minutes after Rollins cashed in and pinned Punk to win the title.

John Cena reveals The Last Time Is Now tournament to determine final opponent

John Cena’s final opponent will be determined in the coming weeks.

In a taped segment during Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cena announced that a 16-man tournament will begin one week from Monday on Raw. It will feature wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. Cena even hinted that some of the participants may not even work in WWE.

Whoever wins the tournament will move on to face Cena on the Saturday Night’s Main Event that will take place on December 13 in Washington D.C.. This has been confirmed as Cena’s final match before officially retiring, ending his year-long retirement tour.

Dave Meltzer reported last month that Gunther is likely to be John Cena’s final opponent, mentioning that he would be winning the tournament. The Ring General hasn’t been on television since SummerSlam, losing to CM Punk in a match for the World Heavyweight Championship.

It was further reported that the Intercontinental title could be on the line during Cena’s final match, as it was recently reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there have been discussions about Cena winning the title at Survivor Series against current champion Dominik Mysterio.

WWE reveals date & location for January edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event

Saturday Night’s Main Event is headed to Montreal.

WWE announced on Saturday that their Peacock streaming event is heading to Montreal on January 24 at the Bell Center, one day after SmackDown is held at the same arena. Combo tickets will go on sale this coming Friday.

This will be the third consecutive month in a row that a Saturday Night’s Main Event is set to be held. In addition to tonight’s program, another will be held on December 13 in Washington, DC. That show will serve as the location for John Cena’s last match. It was announced on Saturday that a tournament will be held to determine Cena’s final opponent, starting one week from Monday.

WWE last held an event in Montreal back on August 8 for an episode of SmackDown. That featured Cody Rhodes & John Cena teaming together to defeat Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul by disqualification. The show ended with McIntyre giving Rhodes a Claymore through a table, beginning their feud that has continued through Saturday, where Rhodes defeated McIntyre in a match where he could lose the WWE title by DQ or count out.

Jade Cargill wins Women’s Championship at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Tiffy Time ran out on Saturday.

Jade Cargill is the new Women’s Champion, defeating Tiffany Stratton at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cargill dominated the match, targeting Stratton’s injured leg. After hitting two powerbombs, the new champion finished off Straton with Jaded, pinning her for the title.

Stratton had held the title for most of the year, cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax back on the January 3 edition of SmackDown. She had just surpassed the 300 day mark as champion.

On last week’s SmackDown, Cargill made the save for Stratton after she was jumped by Giulia and Kiana James. Once they were dispatched, however, Cargill turned against Stratton by laying her out with a clothesline. She continued her attack, stomping on Stratton’s knee on the stairs in the process. In an interview that took place after, Cargill said she was tired of being patient and was ready to take what was hers, the WWE Women’s Championship.

Prior to Saturday’s match, Nick Aldis asked Stratton if she was sure she wanted to continue with the match. Despite the injury, Stratton insisted on wrestling.

Rusev on being sidelined prior to AEW release: ‘We only have this body and age for so long’

Rusev did not refuse to lose.

In a new interview with CBS Sports, the former Miro denied rumors that he refused to do jobs while in AEW. Despite this, he spent much of his time on the sidelines, having not wrestled for over a year before finally being released by the company in February. In the interview, he talked about having so little matches during his AEW run, particularly in the year prior to his release.

“In the past five years, I have had 20 or 30 matches. Back in the day, I had 30 matches in 30 days,” he said. “The dead time sticks out the most. We only have this body and age for so long. We can’t do this job forever, so we must take advantage of it while we’re young. I sat on the sidelines for so long, unable to do what I love, which is performing for people in professional wrestling.”

Before returning to WWE, Miro hadn’t wrestled in AEW since the end of 2023, defeating Andrade El Idolo at Worlds End. Rusev made his return on the Raw following WrestleMania 41. He is now set to challenge for the Intercontinental title at Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend.
