Update on The Undertaker’s role at AAA Guerra de Titanes

The Undertaker played a significant role in AAA’s show in Guadalajara last week.

In September, Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AAA’s creative team consists of Jeremy Borash, The Undertaker, Dorian Roldan, and Konnan, with Paul “Triple H” Levesque in charge.

In the most recent edition of the newsletter, Meltzer writes that Borash and Taker booked AAA Guerra de Titanes on December 20:

“The booking of the show was handled by Jeremy Borash and Undertaker. They worked with Konnan and Dorian Roldan and went through them to make sure the ideas worked based on AAA history and Mexican pro wrestling culture.”

Meltzer praised the show overall, calling it better than a typical Friday night show for CMLL.

“To me, it was better than most Friday nights at Arena Mexico because while Arena Mexico has had a few main events better, this was hot from the opener to the main event and had great wrestling up and down the show.”

The show sold out a day in advance with over 13,000 tickets distributed for what is typically a walk-up crowd.

Konnan also addressed what Taker brings to the AAA creative team during an episode of his podcast in September, saying:

“Undertaker’s brilliant. I don’t think they would have put him in that position (otherwise). When you sit down and talk to him, he knows his stuff. I’ve been around enough bookers to know who knows their s–t and who doesn’t.”

“What Undertaker brings to the game is he knows what gets heat, what works, what can get somebody over, and what are good finishes. That’s his genius.”

Also at AAA Guerra de Titanes, the promotion announced its next big event will be Rey de Reyes in Puebla on March 14 at the Auditorio GNP Seguros.

Meltzer’s full review of AAA Guerra de Titanes is available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter for subscribers.

Dominik Mysterio suffered shoulder injury at AAA Guerra de Titanes

Dominik Mysterio has suffered a shoulder injury.

Bryan Alvarez is reporting that Mysterio suffered the injury near the end of the main event match at Saturday’s AAA Guerra de Titanes event in Guadalajara, where he and El Grande Americano took on his father Rey Mysterio and Rey Fenix.

“Dom injured his shoulder taking the DDT from his dad near the end of tonight’s main event,” he writes. “Based on how he landed, my presumption is it’s likely a shoulder separation, which depending on the severity could be a short-term injury, or worst case scenario surgery. But we won’t know anything until he gets evaluated. He could barely use the arm at all.”

The finish of the match had Penta, who was taken out of the match due to injury, stop Americano from using a foreign object. Penta instead used the object in his own mask to take out Dominik with a headbutt as Fenix wiped out Americano on the outside with a dive. Rey then pinned his son following the 619.

After the match, Dominik shoved Americano and walked to the back by himself. A confused Americano eventually shook hands with Rey Mysterio and made his own exit.

AAA Guerra de Titanes notes: Rey de Reyes date & location official, Penta, El Grande Americano

Notes from Saturday’s Guerra de Titanes.

Prior to the main event of Saturday’s show in Guadalajara, AAA confirmed that Rey de Reyes would be held in Puebla in March. Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reported earlier this week that the show would be taking place on March 14 at the Auditorio GNP Seguros.

Rey Mysterio & Rey Fenix emerged victorious in the main event, defeating El Grande Americano and Dominik Mysterio thanks to help from Penta, who prevented Americano from using a foreign object. Penta instead put the object under his own mask to attack Dominik. Fenix took out Americano and Rey ended up pinning his own son following the 619.

After the match Americano attempted to help Dominik, who responded by pushing Americano and storming away with his championships. As Americano stood in the ring unsure of what had just transpired, Rey Mysterio extended his hand. Americano ended up accepting the handshake and left, showing respect to the WWE Hall of Famer.

The show closed with Rey Fenix’s son and Canelo Alvarez’s son entering the ring and doing Penta’s dance with the rest of the babyfaces to close out the show.

El Hijo del Vikingo aligns with Omos & Dorian Roldan at AAA Guerra de Titanes

A new version of El Ojo was born at Guerra de Titanes.

El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Dragon Lee at Saturday’s event in Guadalajara thanks to the help of Omos, who came to the ring following a ref bump and gave Lee the Last Ride powerbomb. Vikingo quickly hit the 450 splash and covered Lee for the victory.

After the match, Dorian Roldan came out and shook hands with Vikingo and Omos, cementing their new alliance. Roldan cut a promo mocking Dragon Lee and his family, with Lee’s father Bestia del Ring sitting at ringside. Roldan said that money had brought them together, and introduced the crowd to the newest version of El Ojo, which sees all.

Omos has been used sparingly in the last few years despite remaining under contract to WWE, having competed in a brief tour for Pro Wrestling NOAH, who has an informal relationship with the company. Omos did compete in the Copa Bardahl at Triplemania in August, winning the match after eliminating La Parka.

In the weeks following Vikingo’s heel turn, Roldan had been seen attempting to recruit Vikingo despite having feuded with Vikingo just months prior.

Canelo Alvarez makes surprise appearance at AAA Guerra de Titanes

Canelo Alvarez appeared at AAA Guerra de Titanes.

After the opening match of Saturday’s show in Guadalajara, La Parka brought a young fan into the ring who was wearing his mask. When he put him back over the barricade, a man wearing the same mask was with the child, taking it off to reveal himself as none other than Alvarez, who is from Guadalajara. The crowd reacted huge to the surprise appearance as all of the babyface took selfies and greeted the boxing legend.

La Parka & Octagon Jr. won the opening four-way tag team match at Guerra de Titanes, defeating Los Americanos (Bravo & Rayo), Mr. Iguana & Niño Hamburguesa, and the LWO (Cruz del Toro & Joaquin Wilde). Parka pinned Del Toro to win the match.

Alvarez earlier in the fall competed as part of the first ever Zuffa Boxing event held by Dana White and TKO, AAA & WWE’s parent company. He went on to lose to Terrence Crawford on the main event of that show, which aired on Netflix.

Rey Mysterio to replace Penta at AAA Guerra de Titantes

The Lucha Brothers reunion is off, but a replacement has been named for Guerra de Titanes.

Penta announced on social media Tuesday that he will be out of this Saturday’s event in Guadalajara, where he was originally set to team with his brother Rey Fenix for the first time under the WWE banner against Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano. Penta announced he wouldn’t be there, but Rey Mysterio will be taking his place.

On the November 24 edition of Raw, Penta suffered a shoulder injury while wrestling Solo Sikoa, landing hard after hitting a hurricanrana off the barricade. In the days after the incident Penta said he was hoping to make it to Guerra de Titantes despite the injury. Although Rey Mysterio has made multiple appearances in AAA this year, it would mark the first time he has wrestled on a AAA branded show in Mexico since WWE bought the company.

Here is the updated lineup for Guerra de Titantes, which will air on YouTube this Saturday:

AAA Guerra de Titanes (December 20)

  • Rey Fenix & Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio & El Grande Americano

Two new matches added to AAA Guerra de Titantes

Two new matches are set for next month’s Guerra de Titanes.

In the opening match of AAA’s Alianzas event on Friday, Jack Cartwheel defeated Chris Carter and Elio Lefleur in a three-way. After the match, it was announced that Cartwheel will meet AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid and Je’Von Evans in a three-way match at Guerra de Titanes on December 20 in Guadalajara.

Evans earned a title match after defeating Axiom and Octagon Jr. in a three-way at the last Alianzas event.

In the main event of Friday’s show, El Grande Americano was able to beat Hijo del Vikingo after a distraction from Dragon Lee on the apron. As the two were arguing post-match, Rey Mysterio came out and attempted to mediate and announced the match between the two for Guerra de Titanes. He then attempted to get the two to shake hands. They did, but not before Vikingo slapped Lee before leaving.

Lucha Brothers reunite, issue challenge for AAA Guerra de Titanes

The Lucha Brothers are back, and are looking for a challenge.

During Saturday’s AAA tapings in Mexico City, Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano were in the ring when suddenly they were interrupted by Rey Fenix and Penta, who called out both men and issued the challenge for Guerra de Titantes, which takes place on December 20. Mysterio accepted on their behalf, setting up a giant tag team match.

Although the two frequently teamed together previously in AAA, AEW, and elsewhere, Penta and Rey Fenix have yet to team up under the WWE umbrella. Penta has been a fixture on the Raw brand, while his brother has been wrestling on SmackDown.

Another match was made for Guerra de Titantes on Saturday. After Psycho Circus (Psycho Clown, Murder Clown, Pagano, and Dave the Clown) were victorious against El Ojo, Bo Dallas appeared in a taped promo. He said that the Wyatt Sicks had accepted their invitation and would introduce them to a carnival of carnage at Guerra de Titantes. The last several months have seen the Wyatts attack Psycho Clown & Pagano after their matches.

Latin American title match set for AAA Guerra de Titanes

A new title match is set for Guerra de Titanes.

After Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. retained the title during Sunday’s AAA Day of the Dead television taping, Ethan Page ran in and jumped Wagner from behind. He told Wagner that he already beat him in his country in front of his people, and now he was going to do it in front of Dr. Wagner’s people. He claimed he would take the Latin American title, and would see him in Guadalajara on December 20.

Backstage, Wagner reacted to the attack while Ethan Page promised to become a triple champion on social media. Earlier in the night, Page and Chelsea Green teamed together to defeat Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra to win the AAA Mixed Tag Team titles for the first time.

The two have been feuding on NXT for the last several weeks, culminating in a Day of the Dead match that took place at Halloween Havoc. Page emerged as the winner, retaining the NXT North American title.

Sin Cara appears at AAA Guerra de Titanes

The recently released Sin Cara made an appearance tonight at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event.

Sin Cara, real name Jorge Arias, made the save for Pagano tonight after he was attacked by a number of rudos. After the ring was cleared, Sin Cara cut a promo saying he was here to help his friend Pagano.

He was introduced using that name and was wearing the same mask that he had used during his WWE run. WWE has a trademark for the Sin Cara name in Mexico.

Sin Cara, along with Luke Harper and The Ascension were officially released from their contracts on December 8. They all have a 90 day no compete clause, meaning they cannot wrestle anywhere else until March 8.

Arias returned to WWE following an injury back in October and had been feuding with Andrade on the Raw brand, with their last match being a mixed tag match back on the November 4 edition of Raw. On November 11, Arias requested his release from the company on social media.
