Two new number one contenders crowned on WWE SmackDown

The number one contenders for both the WWE and Women’s Tag Team titles were determined on SmackDown.

After Giulia & Kiana James and Alexa Bliss & Charlotte both came out on Friday to confront new champions the Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend), Nick Aldis arrived and made an impromptu number one contender’s match between the first two teams. Flair and Bliss emerged victorious after Flair hit the natural selection on Giulia, giving them the next shot against Jax and Legend.

The Irresistible Forces defeated Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY on last week’s SmackDown to win the titles for the first time as a team. During their celebration backstage, they announced that they would have an additional celebration on this week’s show.

For the men, Damian Priest and R-Truth emerged as the new number one contenders for the titles, winning a Tag Team Turmoil match. The Motor City Machine Guns were first eliminated by Fraxiom, who then were eliminated by Los Garza. The Wyatt Sicks were in next, but shockingly lost after Tama Tonga interrupted the match, allowing Berto to roll up Dexter Lumis for the win. Finally Priest & Truth entered and scored the victory over Los Garza to become the new number one contenders, earning a future title match against the MFTs.

WWE NXT team earns Women’s Tag title shot

A WWE NXT tag team has earned a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The Culling’s Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley won a chaotic three-way elimination match in Tuesday’s WWE NXT TV main event to earn an opportunity to challenge Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Tag titles.

Dame and Paxley defeated Fallon Henley an Jazmyn Nyx of Fatal Influence, plus Sol Ruca and Zaria in the three-way elimination bout to earn their title match. Ruca and Zaria were eliminated first after Ruca accidentally caught Zaria with a Sol Snatcher, enabling Nyx to pin Zaria.

The bout continued until Paxley and Dame hit Henley with a tandem boot-Russian leg sweep, followed by a sit-out tree slam from Dame to pin Henley for the victory.

No date has been announced for the Flair and Bliss vs. Dame and Paxley title tilt.

Becky Lynch turns on Lyra Valkyria, Tag Team titles change hands on WWE Raw

The newly-formed tag team of Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria has already split.

One day after Lynch and Valkyria won the Women’s Tag Team titles, they dropped them right back to former champs Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, with Lynch turning on Valkyria in the post-match.

Valkyria was pinned in the Tag title rematch on Monday’s Raw in Las Vegas, with Morgan hitting Oblivion for the finish. Lynch was repeatedly neutralized as she attempted to help her partner during the bout.

After the match, Lynch hugged Valkyria before dropping her with multiple clotheslines. Lynch left the ring, then returned to hit three Manhandle Slams on Valkyria to cement the heel turn.

Lynch returned at WrestleMania 41 after a hiatus of nearly 11 months, replacing Bayley as Valkyria’s partner. Bayley was laid out backstage in an angle on the night one of WrestleMania pre-show on Saturday, with her attacker yet to be revealed.

It was announced on Monday’s Raw that Bayley had suffered a partial shoulder dislocation in storyline, and would be on the shelf for an indeterminate amount of time.

Our live play-by-play coverage of the Raw after WrestleMania is ongoing here.

New Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE Raw

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

The Judgment Day’s Morgan and Rodriguez unseated Bianca Belair and Naomi as champs in the main event of Monday’s WWE Raw to capture the Women’s Tag titles for a record third time.

The main event featured interference from Dominik Mysterio on behalf of Morgan and Rodriguez, including near the finish where Mysterio jumped on the apron to distract Naomi. Naomi hit Morgan with her finisher, then pulled Mysterio into the ring. In the ensuing chaos, Morgan stole the pin.

Belair and Naomi’s title reign ends after 177 days, although Naomi was part of the team for just the final 73 days of the reign, as she replaced Jade Cargill who was written out of storylines with a cliffhanger injury angle that has yet to be fully paid off.

Rodriguez and Morgan have now captured the titles three times as a duo, the most in the six-year history of the championship. Rodriguez is a four-time Women’s Tag champ having also held the titles with Aliyah for two weeks in 2022.

New WWE Women’s Tag Team title number one contenders crowned

Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson are the new number one contenders to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The Meta Girls (Legend and Jackson) defeated Unholy Union (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn) on this week’s WWE NXT in a number one contender’s match to earn the next shot at the Women’s Tag Team titles, currently held by Bianca Belair and Naomi.

Belair and Jade Cargill originally won the Tag titles at Bash in Berlin last August. Naomi was named the replacement for Cargill on the December 20 WWE SmackDown episode after an angle where Cargill was shown laid out on the hood of a car, implicating a mystery attacker. That storyline thread has yet to be tied up.

Tuesday’s WWE NXT also set up two title bouts for next week’s show, with Oba Femi defending the NXT title against Eddy Thorpe, plus Tony D’Angelo defending the North American title against Ridge Holland.

Another title match was also made official for the January 28 episode, with Fallon Henley defending the Women’s North American Championship against Shotzi. Henley interfered in a number one contender’s match between Shotzi and Stephanie Vaquer this week, allowing Shotzi to score the victory.

Naomi replacing Jade Cargill as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion

Naomi has replaced Jade Cargill as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Bianca Belair.

In a backstage segment on Friday’s WWE SmackDown, GM Nick Aldis told Belair that he was forcing her to relinquish the Women’s Tag Team titles as the investigation into who attacked Cargill in a backstage angle continues.

Naomi offered to step in for Cargill, and Aldis relented under the condition that the duo defend the Tag titles on next week’s SmackDown.

Later in the show, Belair and Naomi defending the Women’s Tag Team titles against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae was announced for next week’s SmackDown.

The Cargill injury angle took place on the November 22 SmackDown, with the star shown laying on the hood of a car.

The most recent Women’s Tag Team title defense came on the November 11 edition of WWE Raw, with Belair and Cargill retaining over Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez in that contest.

The four-way match on Raw also featured the teams of Kairi Sane & Dakota Kai of Damage CTRL, Ivy Nile & Maxxine Dupri, plus Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. Baszler pinned Dupri to win the contest.

Women’s Tag Team title rematch set for next week’s WWE Raw

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship will be on the line on the Monday, February 5 edition of Raw.

WWE announced during this week’s episode that The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) of Damage CTRL will defend their titles against former champions Katana Chance & Kayden Carter on next Monday’s Raw.

Asuka & Sane defeated Chance & Carter to win the titles on last Friday’s SmackDown.

The Kabuki Warriors were in action on this week’s Raw, winning a non-title match against Natalya & Tegan Nox. Chance & Carter were shown watching the bout backstage, where interviewer Jackie Redmond asked for their response. Chance & Carter said that they had gone to Raw authority figure Adam Pearce and secured a rematch for next week.

New Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE SmackDown

Damage CTRL’s Kabuki Warriors duo of Asuka & Kairi Sane defeated Katana Chance & Kayden Carter on Friday’s WWE SmackDown to capture the Women’s Tag titles for the second time in their careers.

Sane pinned Carter after hitting an InSane Elbow to win the titles, and Damage CTRL celebrated together after the contest, with an emphasis on Asuka, Sane, WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai, while group member Bayley was presented as something of an outsider.

A video package hyping Bayley’s quest to win the Royal Rumble aired during SmackDown as the tension within Damage CTRL continues to be a focus.
