Vince McMahon to attend WWE WrestleMania 39

Vince McMahon has a path to WrestleMania.

WWE’s executive chairman will be in Los Angeles for the event this weekend, according to a report from PWInsider and confirmed by our own Dave Meltzer.

Meltzer addressed the situation on Thursday morning’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio

“He’s coming to WrestleMania,” Meltzer said. “Not a surprise, but he is.”

McMahon was also backstage during the March 6, 2023, edition of Raw. The show took place in Boston and featured the return of John Cena.

Although McMahon’s only official role is said to be spearheading efforts regarding a potential sale, some believe he has more influence on creative than is being let on.

Meltzer wrote in last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that evidence of the 77-year-old’s influence includes a segment on the 3/20 Raw having to be reshot after someone used the term “wrestling.”

Meltzer wrote:

If you haven’t seen the fingerprints of Vince McMahon on camera, and there are little things here and there, there was a pre-tape interview on the 3/20 Raw where somebody used the term “wrestling” and they had to redo. Granted since Reigns and Rhodes used the term pro wrestlers in their promo on the same show.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio official for WWE WrestleMania 39

A Father vs. Son match is on for WWE WrestleMania 39.

After months of refusing to fight his son, Rey Mysterio finally agreed to face Dominik in a match at WrestleMania following an angle on Friday’s WWE SmackDown.

Dominik was ringside for a Rey vs. LA Knight match on SmackDown, tripping Rey and allowing Knight to score an upset victory. After the match, Dominik berated his mother Angie, who was sitting ringside along with Aalyah Mysterio.

The tipping point for Rey came when Dominik called his mother “a deadbeat” and told her to “shut up.” Rey then struck Dominik and agreed to face him at WrestleMania.

Rey will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday, March 31, the day before night one of WrestleMania.

WWE & Cinnamon Toast Crunch announce WrestleMania 39 sponsorship

Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s Cinnamojis are set to be part of WrestleMania.

WWE and General Mills released a statement on Tuesday announcing that the cereal’s mascots will “perform live at WrestleMania 39 alongside WWE Superstars.” However, no further details regarding the performance were released.

Additionally, a limited number of Cinnamoji Toast Crunch Rey Mysterio WrestleMania 39-branded cereal boxes will be available this month at Walmart.com.

A commercial featuring Kofi Kingston introducing the Cinnamojis to his New Day teammates was released as part of the promotion. Xavier Woods appears somewhat concerned that Kofi has been making friends with cereal, however.

“Cinnamojis are always up for anything and given the chance to adventure into a world of wrestling with spirited characters, colorful masks, and enthusiastic fans, they were all in,” said Mindy Murray, Sr. Marketing Communications Manager for General Mills. “WWE is at the epicenter of sports entertainment, and we are thrilled to bring Cinnamojis’ antics to their passionate fanbase.”

“Cinnamon Toast Crunch is an enduring brand with an amazing product, and we’re excited to welcome them as a first-time WrestleMania sponsor,” said Craig Stimmel, Head of Global Sales and Partnerships, WWE.

Stimmel was also quoted in a Hollywood Reporter article last month speaking about WrestleMania’s potential sponsors. He teased that a sponsor-branded match, similar to the Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match, could take place at the event.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but it’ll be around a match, and the sponsorship of that match, and what they’ll be able to bring to that match,” he said. “So we’re going to do things that fit inside of our storyline as well.”

WWE posted a video of Byron Saxton revealing the teams on Monday:

Steve Austin says WWE has not contacted him regarding WrestleMania 39

Steve Austin has addressed his possible involvement at WrestleMania 39.

Austin told The Wrestling Classic that he hasn’t heard from WWE regarding the event. He also said that he believes the company should focus on its current roster at this year’s show.

Austin said:

You know, I haven’t heard anything. We’re literally, as we speak right now, it’s about two weeks away and it’s the biggest show of the year. Right now, I think WWE has got as good a roster that they’ve had since the Attitude Era. They got a deep roster.

So, I think so many guys and gals need those coveted sports. They’ve got plenty of names to draw from. Plenty of talent to draw from. I think they should shine the light and the cameras on their current Superstars.

However, Austin would respond, “To be determined” when asked about possibly making an appearance at the event.

Our own Dave Meltzer noted in January that Austin had turned down offers to wrestle at the event. Previous reports stated that he was offered a match against Brock Lesnar.

Meltzer said:

“As far as Austin goes, Steve might be at the show. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. He might do something on the show, but he did in fact turn down wrestling at the show,” Meltzer said. “He was offered [Brock] Lesnar, he was offered Roman Reigns. He could have named his opponent if he wanted to do it with anybody else, but he did not choose to wrestle on the show.”

A new A&E series featuring Steve Austin is set to start airing soon. Stone Cold Takes On America’s first episode is scheduled for Sunday, April 30. The series will follow Austin as he travels in an RV and accepts challenges from fans that push him “out of his comfort zone.”

Triple threat IC title match official for WWE WrestleMania 39

A triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship is official for WWE WrestleMania 39.

As announced during Friday’s SmackDown show, Gunther is set to defend the IC title against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a three-way at WrestleMania.

McIntyre and Sheamus scored simultaneous pinfalls in a five-way match to determine Gunther’s WrestleMania contender on last week’s SmackDown, setting up a one-on-one contest on this week’s show.

After simultaneously hitting each other with their finishers during this week’s bout, McIntyre and Sheamus were both down in the ring. Gunther got in and exhorted both to get to their feet, but it was a ruse to allow Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci to attack McIntyre and Sheamus.

On-screen authority figure Adam Pearce then appeared on the video wall to announce the triple threat match for WrestleMania.

Eleven bouts have been announced for WrestleMania, set for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez are going to WrestleMania.

Morgan & Rodriguez defeated the team of Tegan Nox & Emma on Friday’s WWE SmackDown show to qualify for a newly-announced four-way tag team bout at WrestleMania 39.

Wade Barrett announced on commentary during SmackDown that WrestleMania 39 would feature both women’s and men’s four-way tag team “showcase” bouts, with qualifying matches to take place on television between now and WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 39 is set for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Bray Wyatt vs. Bobby Lashley still planned for WWE WrestleMania 39

Despite a recent absence from WWE events, it looks like Bray Wyatt is still planned to face Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania.

Wyatt hasn’t been on WWE television in two weeks and missed WWE’s house show at Madison Square Garden this Sunday. Though neither Wyatt nor Lashley appeared on Raw last night, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that — from what he understands — their match is still on for WrestleMania.

“From what I understand, the match is still on for WrestleMania,” Meltzer said. “And [Wyatt] should be back very soon, so we’ll see. That’s pretty much all I can say. There is something to it, but I’m not at liberty to discuss it. As far as I know, everything that I’ve been told is that it’s not a creative issue or anything like that.”

Amid rumors about Wyatt’s status, Lashley tweeted before Raw on Monday: “I’ve worked too hard to be denied. I will be ready to fight on the biggest stage of them all, #WrestleMania. I don’t care who it is, somebody will feel the wrath of the All-Mighty.”

A Firefly Fun House segment with Wyatt aired on SmackDown on February 24. The next Monday, there was an angle on Raw where a clip from Wyatt interrupted Lashley.

The March 3 episode of SmackDown included an angle where Lashley fought off an attack by Uncle Howdy.

Wyatt has had one televised match since returning to WWE last October. He defeated LA Knight in a Mtn Dew Pitch Black match at the Royal Rumble.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is hosting WrestleMania 39 on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

Omos and Brock had one spot. It didn’t work: Wrestling Observer Radio

Brock Lesnar and Omos had one spot. It didn’t exactly work.

Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the segment between Lesnar and Omos on Raw Tuesday morning on Wrestling Observer Radio. The spot was supposed to have Omos take Lesnar and throw him over the top rope to the floor. However, it did not go according to plan, causing the spot to look sloppy in execution.

“They did a replay of this later and managed to make it look like it worked, which was pretty impressive, but it did not work live,” Alvarez said.

Both noted that the crowd were interested in the segment at first, but it died as soon as they shook hands and the spot went down.

“It actually kind of made me more excited for the match,” Alvarez said, “because I just have to see this. Like, what in God’s name is going to happen in this match.”

Meltzer noted that it can’t be as bad as one of the worst matches of last year.

“Look, last year’s WrestleMania had Vince McMahon and Pat McAfee,” Meltzer said. “And I just don’t believe we’re going to see a match worse than that.”

Women’s Tag Team title update for WWE WrestleMania 39

Despite the champions being announced for a six-woman tag match, the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles are still going to be defended at WrestleMania 39.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler are still planned to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles at WrestleMania.

It was announced on Raw last night that Becky Lynch, Lita & Trish Stratus will face Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) at WrestleMania. Lynch & Lita are the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, but Meltzer noted that he doesn’t know if they’ll still be champions by WrestleMania or if Kai & SKY will win the titles back before then.

“They still have a tag title match. There’s gonna be two matches coming out of this program. So whoever are the champions will wrestle Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, but they’re also doing the [six-woman],” Meltzer said.

“I don’t know if Kai & SKY are going to win the belts back or it’s going to be Lita & Becky Lynch, but Rousey & Baszler are still getting the Tag Team title shot, as has been planned all along. And likely winning them, unless Rousey’s injury doesn’t heal. Which they are, right now, of the impression that — she’s not gonna be 100 percent healed, but the impression is that she will be ready to do the match.”

Rousey has reaggravated a prior injury but is still expected to compete at WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 39 is taking place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. The six-woman tag match will presumably take place one night with the Women’s Tag Team title match being part of the card for the other night.

Stratus, Lynch & Lita vs. Damage CTRL set for WWE WrestleMania 39

A six-woman tag team match featuring two WWE Hall of Famers has been added to the WrestleMania 39 lineup.

Wrestling for the first time since SummerSlam in August 2019, Hall of Famer Trish Stratus will team with the Women’s Tag Team Champions Becky Lynch and fellow Hall of Famer Lita against Damage CTRL’s Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY at WrestleMania 39.

The groundwork for the match was laid on last week’s Raw when Stratus helped Lynch and Lita win the Tag titles from Kai and SKY. On this week’s Raw, Stratus issued a challenge to Damage CTRL on her team’s behalf, and Bayley accepted for her side.

In her last match, Stratus faced Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam 2019 in Toronto. Stratus last wrestled on a WrestleMania in 2011, teaming with Snooki and John Morrison to defeat Dolph Ziggler, Michelle McCool, and Layla in a mixed tag match.

WrestleMania will be held on Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Here is the updated lineup:

WWE WrestleMania, Saturday, April 1 & Sunday, April 2, 8 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock & WWE Network —

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley

Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins official for WWE WrestleMania 39

Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins is on for WWE WrestleMania 39.

After a face-to-face segment on Monday’s Raw, Paul vs. Rollins one-on-one was officially announced for WrestleMania, set for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The Miz, WrestleMania’s host, presided over the Rollins and Paul face-to-face on Raw, egging the two on. After Rollins suggested the match for Raw, Paul said that he is a “premium attraction” and would only wrestle on a bigger stage with a bigger payday. The Miz said that as host, he could pull strings to make the match happen at WrestleMania.

The segment ended with Paul laying Rollins out with a stomp.

Paul eliminated Rollins from the Royal Rumble match in January to set the stage for the singles match. Prior to Royal Rumble, Paul last wrestled for WWE at Crown Jewel in November 2022, challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Counting the Rumble, Paul has just four career matches, making his in-ring debut as Miz’s tag partner at last year’s WrestleMania in a winning effort against Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Paul then defeated Miz in a singles match last July at SummerSlam.

The updated WrestleMania card:

Daniel Cormier to lead WWE WrestleMania 39 coverage for ESPN

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier will be in Los Angeles for WWE WrestleMania 39 — but he won’t be involved in the ring.

Cormier told Sports Illustrated that he’s going to WrestleMania 39 to lead ESPN’s coverage of the event. Cormier works for ESPN as a mixed martial arts analyst.

“I’m going to WrestleMania,” Cormier told SI. “The first week of April for ESPN, I’ll be leading the coverage for WrestleMania. I’m so excited about it.”

Cormier appeared for WWE as the special guest referee for Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins’ Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules last October. In his interview with SI, Cormier said that — while he’s open to wrestling — his priority right now is his media job.

“I’m getting more opportunities for ESPN, and I’m so thankful for that,” Cormier said. “So I’ll be at WrestleMania, just in a different capacity, and we’ll see what the future holds down the line.”

SI noted that interviews with WWE talent may be part of Cormier’s WrestleMania media role. Cormier joked about smacking Brock Lesnar if Lesnar tries to step up to him.

“If Brock steps in my way?” Cormier said with a laugh. “I’ll smack him upside his head.”

WrestleMania 39 is taking place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. Both nights will stream live on Peacock/WWE Network.

The Miz to host WWE WrestleMania 39

WrestleMania 39 will have a host.

WWE announced on Monday’s Raw that The Miz will serve as the host of the two-night WrestleMania 39 event. The shows are set for Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Miz is a two-time former WWE Champion, eight-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time United States Champion, has held eight different Tag Team titles in the WWE, and is also a former Money in the Bank winner.

Miz hosting was revealed during a Miz TV segment on Raw. Seth Rollins interrupted the segment and used it to call Logan Paul from Miz’s phone, challenging Paul to show up at Raw next Monday in Boston. Paul vs. Rollins has been teased as a WrestleMania 39 bout, but has yet to be made official.

Both nights of WrestleMania will air live on Peacock in the United States, and on WWE Network in the rest of the world.

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos official for WWE WrestleMania 39

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos is official for WWE WrestleMania 39.

After Omos and MVP issued a challenge to Lesnar on last week’s episode, Lesnar accepted the challenge as a guest on MVP’s VIP Lounge segment on Monday’s Raw.

Lesnar asked MVP to sell him on why he should face Omos, and MVP responded with a promo explaining how Lesnar would not be able to F5 Omos. Lesnar enthusiastically responded to the promo and accepted the challenge, then proposed a toast with MVP from a flask. MVP spat the contents of the flask on Lesnar, who then left MVP laying with an F5.

Four matches are now official for WrestleMania on April 1 and April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The lineup so far:

WWE WrestleMania, Saturday, April 1 & Sunday, April 2, 8 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock & WWE Network —

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
  • Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
