AEW reveals matches for House Rules in Brisbane, Australia

While the show won’t be televised, AEW revealed the first two matches for this Sunday’s House Rules in Brisbane, Australia, during Wednesday’s Dynamite.

The show will return to the scene of last year’s Grand Slam Australia event at the Brisbane Entertainment Center while this year’s Grand Slam emanates from Sydney on Saturday.

In a mixed tag team match, AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will team with Marina Shafir against Orange Cassidy & Toni Storm. Shafir, Cassidy and Storm will compete in a tag team match Saturday (along with Wheeler Yuta) where the person that takes the losing fall has to shave their head.

Sunday will see the in-ring debut of the newly-formed Brawling Birds of Jamie Hayter & Alex Windsor who formally revealed their team name this past Saturday.

Those are the only two matches announced thus far. The marketing image above also features MJF, Willow Nightingale, Kyle Fletcher, Hangman Page, Mark Briscoe, and Harley Cameron.

It has not been announced if the show will air on YouTube or the HBO Max archives at some point.

Update on AEW’s future plans for Australia

AEW has a plan in place to return to Australia for years to come.

Revealed on Wrestle Radio Australia earlier Thursday (seen below), the hosts noted that AEW had signed a five-year deal with TEG Sport last year to bring AEW action to the country. Based on the information provided, the deal will run through 2029. No other details were given.

A division of parent company TEG, the group “is responsible for helping major global brands break new markets in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States.”

Last month, the dates and locations were revealed for AEW’s Australia return: Saturday, February 14 at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena for a Grand Slam event and Sunday, February 15 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for a House Rules event.

AEW debuted in Australia for one show this past February at the aforementioned BEC. At the time, it was AEW’s third-largest gate in company history at more than $1.3 million with an estimated 11,000-12,000 in attendance.

First tease of 2026 AEW Australia event hits social media

While AEW’s 2026 return to Australia was known before their first show ended, the first tease of that event hit social media on Thursday night.

On X, TEGSport shared highlights of this year’s Grand Slam Australia debut in Brisbane with a prompt to sign up for the waitlist, asking fans “…are you ready for Round 2? Something big is coming VERY soon.” The word “big” was also used in a graphic seen above with the tagline “Something big is coming to Australia”.

It’s unknown which city and venue AEW will run in the country next after debuting this past February at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. At the time, it was AEW’s third-largest gate in company history at more than $1.3 million with an estimated 11,000-12,000 in attendance.

If AEW returns to an indoor arena that is not in Brisbane, the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, and the Perth Arena appear to be potential candidates based on capacity. The country has six indoor venues with capacity over 11,000.

AEW returning to Australia in 2026

Even before their debut show had wrapped, AEW already announced they are returning to the country in 2026.

Both the promotion and partner Tiketek revealed the news during Saturday’s Grand Slam Australia, providing a QR code for those wanting to get on a waitlist. The date and location was not revealed, however.

AEW’s debut is taking place in Brisbane at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, a show Tony Khan said earlier this week was their most financially successful international show outside their two All In events from London’s Wembley Stadium.

While an official gate and attendance has yet to be announced, that would mean today’s show performed better than 2023’s Forbidden Door in Toronto, Canada, which drew $1.3 million at the Scotiabank Arena. Pictures from the venue showed what appears to be a near full house.

Grand Slam Australia spoilers will be available on our website shortly with a full show recap as it airs Saturday on TNT and Max.

Toni Storm hopes Mariah May rematch happens at AEW Australia debut

After losing to Mariah May in London, Toni Storm would like their rematch to take place on more favorable turf.

AEW is set to make its Australia debut with Grand Slam Australia taking place from Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane next February. To promote the event, Storm visited Suncorp Stadium and was interviewed by ESPN Australia, who asked her about potentially having a rematch against May in Brisbane.

“I mean, I hope that’s the case,” Storm responded. “I hope I get my rematch here against Mariah May. We did this on her turf last time in Wembley in London. I think it’s time to bring it home for me. I think it’s time to get back to Brisbane and beat the ever-loving crap out of her in front of all my family and friends and make my country proud.”

May won the AEW Women’s World Championship from Storm at All In on August 25. It was the latest chapter of their mentor/protege story that’s taken inspiration from classic films like “All About Eve” and “Sunset Boulevard.” On Dynamite this Wednesday, May will make her first AEW Women’s World Championship defense against Nyla Rose.

Storm was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. She told ESPN Australia that this Grand Slam event is a huge deal for her both professionally and personally.

“I mean, this is something I never thought would ever happen, would ever be possible. I left Australia about 10 years ago to try and achieve this dream. Try and make it big out in America as a professional wrestling star. Never in my life did I think there would be a show back in Brisbane, let alone of this size,” Storm said.

“So coming back, I’m overwhelmed. I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe I’m going to be able to perform right in front of my family, my friends, the people that originally trained me. This is such a huge deal for me professionally and personally. I can’t believe it’s going to happen.”

Grand Slam Australia is taking place on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

AEW making Australia debut with Grand Slam stadium show

AEW will indeed be heading to Australia for the first time with the date, location and name now official.

Announced during Sunday’s All In pre-show, Grand Slam Australia is set for Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The venue’s capacity is listed at over 52,000 with up to 60,000 for concerts, but it’s unknown what they will set up for. Ticket information was not announced.

The rumors of AEW coming to Australia began two weeks ago with a report they were in well-advanced talks to run a stadium show. Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium were all mentioned as possibilities with live entertainment company TEG backing the show.

This will raise questions as to whether AEW’s run at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, may be coming to an end with this September’s Dynamite/Collision Grand Slam event. According to WrestleTix, the ticket sales for their fourth visit to the stadium are sluggish to this point as compared to previous years.

Grand Slam Australia will be their third-ever stadium show outside the U.S. with their two All In events at London’s Wembley Stadium as the first two.

Tony Khan confirms AEW looking to make Australia debut in 2025

An announcement regarding AEW’s Australia debut could be coming soon.

At the start of his pre-All In media call on Thursday, Khan confirmed that AEW is looking to make its Australia debut in 2025. The promotion is scouting “various locations” in Australia, and Khan teased that more information will be coming soon.

“I just wanted to address some reports regarding AEW potentially running an event in Australia,” he said. “We can confirm that we’re currently looking at various locations in Australia to potentially run an event sometime next year in 2025. We’ll have more information about this in the near future. 2025 is going to be a milestone year. Just as this is a milestone year, I think 2025 [there will be] even more great milestones to come.”

The Sporting News Australia first reported last week that AEW had “well-advanced” plans to make its Australia debut with a stadium show next year. Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, and Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane were mentioned as potential locations.

AEW already has one stadium show confirmed for 2025. Next year’s All In will take place from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, July 12. All In will then return to the United Kingdom in 2026.

Report: AEW has ‘well-advanced’ plans to run Australia stadium show in 2025

In a surprise development reported Wednesday, AEW is looking at running a stadium event in Australia in 2025.

According to The Sporting News out of Australia, the plans for the company’s debut in the country are “well advanced” and that “AEW powerbrokers have been scouting venues along Australia’s east coast.”

The report states that three venues could be in play — Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium — with live entertainment company TEG backing the show.

AEW’s programming airs on ESPN in the country.

The news comes as AEW prepares to hold its second-ever international stadium show at London’s Wembley Stadium with All In a week from this Sunday. It also comes amid rumors they have been evaluating running a stadium show in Arlington, Texas, where the Texas Rangers of MLB play.

While AEW has never run Australia before, WWE certainly has including this past February’s Elimination Chamber in a Perth stadium which drew an announced 52,590. That was preceded by Super ShowDown at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October 2018 that drew an announced 70,309.
